NORTON, Helen
Helen's internationally acclaimed work uses a metaphorical residue of the Australian landscape as an intense backdrop to portray her passionate engagement of the inner psyche. Her work, strongly layered with humour and irony studies the human condition in a unique, often poignant narrative form. By engaging with the mythic poetic tones of life she provokes the viewer into imaginable possibilities of life through the images she creates. This is an invitation to the viewer to engage in their own experiences and reactions to the images with a metaphorical and meaningful movement of the emotions.

THOMAS, Madigan
Madigan was born at Baloowa (Violet Valley), south of Warmun. As a child she worked on the station and in the 1940s moved with her family to Mabel Downs Station. She began painting in the mid 1980s along with well known artists Queenie McKenzie and other Warmun women. She was one of the first artists to attempt to mix natural ochre and pigments to create a wider range of colours for artists to access, in particular, greens, pinks, blues and greys. Madigan's dark geometric landscapes contrast with her lightheated depiction of bush animals to form a unique vision of the east Kimberley. She is one of the elders of the Warmun Community and is a stong law and culture woman.
