What is Key Club? Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a studentled organization that teaches leadership through service to others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Key Club has approximately 260,000 members in approximately 5,000 clubs. Key Club is represented in 31 countries .

Hazen High School belongs to the Division 32 of the Pacific Northwest Key Club District. The division 32 mascot is Toasty the Dragon representing our colors which is red and black.

Why I Joined Key Club “I joined key club was because my cousin suggested it” -Kenny Nguyen

“I joined key club when former president Allen Truong told me about it!” -Carmen Pan

“I joined Key Club because of the bring your friend thing actually “ -Alex Guo “I joined key club because I felt like I didn't really belong anywhere in hazen. Being injured previously and not being able to do any sports made me feel like I wasn't doing much with life. Then Jonathan told me to go to key club. I was a bit skeptical because I didn't really know many people. But as I kept going and going I learned that the people at key club are just really nice, non judgemental and really accepting. And ever since then the experience has just been amazing. From Dcms to Dcon you just meet more and more amazing people. Also not only meeting people was great, but helping people out too.” -Diego Betancourt

Hello from your President: Hello Key-uties, I hope you have been enjoying all these spring service events so far! Thank you all for providing your community with helping hands and smiles. Please continue to take care of those around you, be it by helping plant trees for a park or just simply by complimenting another person’s work. Also during the month of May, Kiwanis International deems the week of May 4-8, 2015, Eliminate Week. The Eliminate Project is designed to protect mothers and their babies from Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT); it currently affects mothers and their newborns in 23 countries around the world. As of April 16, 2015, The Eliminate Project has raised over $79 million of its $110 million goal. Since 2012, our Hazen Key Club alone has fundraised over $3,800 that total comes to around 2111 mothers and their future babies saved. Is it not so amazing, the things we can accomplish together? Have a fantastic service-filled month and stay toasty! -In Love and Service, Jacquelin Huang

Greetings from the Editor: Hey Key Clubbers, Thank you all for another successful month of service. I’m thankful for everyone that helped me throughout the term by sending photos, sending helpful suggestions and overall making key club enjoyable every Monday. I hope you all enjoyed the first issue of Gordy’s Toast, and hopefully enjoying this issue of Gordy’s toast. Congratulations to all Key Clubbers for accomplishing eliminating MNT in Mauritania, it couldn’t have been accomplished without your help. And thank you all Hazen students for helping Nepal with the miracle minute on Thursday! Denisha’s goal of $1000 was reached thanks to you guys! Good luck to all the remaining AP students taking the exams this week and to all future AP students! My goal of uploading a newsletter every month + uploading Editors eyes for DCMs I hope to accomplish. Until next month, and next Monday.

In Love and Service, Andy Ly
