SITE ANALYSIS CLIMATOLOGICAL DATA
WEATHER Sun path • Overhead sun of the site is at noon. • Sun light is concentrated at the site • Temperature is the highest during the day time especially at noon • Strong sun light comes from the Waterloo Road direction in the morning • Weak sun light comes from the Cumberland Road direction after 4pm Wind Direction • Summer, prevailing wind blows from North-eastern part of Hong Kong. • In winter, prevailing wind blows from Southwestern part of Hong Kong. • Wind is mainly blocked by the Lion Rock Hill from the northern part of the site.
• As Kowloon Tong is located in the central of Kowloon, it has the climate similar to other urban districts. • Since Kowloon Tong has many low-rise households, the sunlight is easy to disperse. So that has a lower temperature than other urban districts especially in summer.

• The house is located between the Waterloo Road, Rutland Quadrant and Cumberland Road in the Kowloon City District • Where is South of the Beacon Hill, North of the Boundary street, East of Shek Kip Mei, and West of Kowloon Tsai and Lok Fu. VEGETATION At North: View to the Lion Rock At East: School, Waterloo Road (school blocks the view from Waterloo Road)
At South: Facing the kindergarten At West: Residential (single family houses)
POLLUTION
Air pollution • Air pollution index is high due to the Waterloo Road • Respirable suspended particles and exhausted fumes like carbon dioxide emitted from the masive transport • Harmful to health in long-term • Some walls block the direct absorption of air pollutants into the houses for protection. Noise pollution • Sound from venicies and human activities (eg kindergartens) •Affect the mood of residents and produce distrbance •Noise pollution is more serious and obvious in daytime •Light pollution is not obvious since the lack of low rise buildings and banner advertisement
•l ots of vegetation planted inside the private residential house, but not on the road. • Artificial plants: trees, climbers, flora, etc. • All pants are for aesthetic and domestic used. SITE ANALYSIS Although a the site is a bit remoted from MTR, around 20-25 minutes of walking distance, there are still many acess towards and leaving the area.
ACCESS
Users can travel by bus to other major cities in Hong Kong just across the bridge. Minibus are also aviliable near the site. As the site is located at the pirvate area of Kowloon Tong, public transport are mostly near but not adjacent.

Gehry’s style is firmly rooted in Deconstructivism, an architectural movement that gained popularity in the 1980s as a reaction to Postmodernism. The movement drew its inspiration from literary theory pioneered by the philosopher Jacques Derida and early-20th-century art movements such as Cubism, Futurism and Constructivism. The philosophy behind Deconstructivism is complex, but it essentially runs counter to the ideas of Postmodernism, which felt that architecture should remain simple and that the form of the building should be an obvious reflection of its function. Deconstructivist architecture, in contrast, embraces structural complexity, and the form of deconstructivist buildings results from a fragmentation and re-assembly of its structure. In many ways, Deconstructivism echoes Cubism in that it reduces a building to simple elements and then rearranges them, resulting in an energetic and dynamic abstraction of the original form. In addition to Gehry, practitioners of Deconstructivism include Daniel Libeskind, Peter Eisenman and Bernard Tschumi.

Gehry Residence
Sirmai-Peterson Residence
The Gehry Residence is Frank Gehry's own house. It was originally an extension, designed by Gehry built and around an existing house. It makes use of unconventional materials such as chain link fences and corrugated steel.
“There ‘s a house in the valley called the Sirmai-Peterson house, and I think it’s the best house I’ve ever done. I’ve never seen it.” Gehry describe Sirmai-Peterson house is one of the best designed single family house.

DESIGN STRATEGY
1. Connectoin between indoor and outdoor enivron- 2. Privacy Gehry designed the house in great consideration of privacy. ment “In quantities sufficient to fence in the moon”said Frank Gehry. He made good use of the natural daylight in his design. Both his own house and sirmai-Peterson’s house have windows facing the east. This can introduce more beautiful natural daylight into the house. The connection betwen outdoor and indoor are brought throught his design. through the irrgular windows and openings, the daylight preformed interesting shading and lighting effect.

Both his house and sirmai-Peterson’s house are for family uses, Gehry put high enphasis on the privacy. The entrance connecting the porch is the major route to different functional zones in his design. But visitors cannot have a full view of the house as the porch is a sperated area from the house. The is one of gehry’s design strategies in constructing single family houses.
3. Unfinished apperance Gehry’s style is outstanding in the mordern architechs. Besides the doubled curves in huge facilities in his design, his design rarely include luxurios finishes at the outside. The shape are also not in a continueos performance style Ghry as the most well-known De-constructivism.

VIEWS Our site is located in Carpenter Park, Kowloon City where Tong Laus are standing around.Therefore,views are not blocked. On the other hand, most of the land surrounding our site are greenery which makes people feel comfortable when studying there. -Openings are available to put freely to the building. As User can experience multible views from different aspect of the site. SHADING Due to the nearby buildings are low-rise building,therefore,sun light can reach our site through out the whole day and no shading effect would occur. Can utilize the natural daylight as the kindergarten run in morning to afternoon(9am-4pm), can consider to make good use of the sunlight. However, the site is located inside the park, some trees many block sunlight in the east and south side of the site. -Windows are suggested to be bigger or put higher to promote more daylight into the building.

People can get access to the site mainly from the park nearby -Entrance and exits are better located to the north or east side of the site.

facilities include a cycling track, a children's playground, an elderly fitness station, a 7-a-side hardsurface soccer pitch, 4 basketball courts and 2 volleyball courts. Residential buildings in the region mainly due to the former Kai Tak Airport nearby, the area has been building height re st r i c t i o n s u nt i l a f te r t h e relocation of the Kai Tak Airport, there is a growing high-rise buildings built. There is only one commercaial center near the site. -The majority of students and parents are supposed to have there shopping and dinning there -People are either heading or leaving school to the north-east of the site.

Parking Spaces As the site is located beside Junction Road which is a busy main road that cars cannot be parked because it is illegal. Also, the area of the site is such small and there is not enough spaces for constructing a car park in the site. So that would be far away for parents to park their car for a moment and cause inconvenience. Parents waiting places The area of the site is limited, there may not have enough extra places inside the site for set up a parents waiting places for parents to take their children back from school. The parents may need to wait in the Junction Road Park and affect the park users.
Access and transportation -Good accessibility -Near many bus stop and minibus stop that can access conveniently to the site from other districts -MTR station ( To Kwa Wan Station) of the Shatin to Central Link will finish the construction in 2018, easy travel to Hong Kong Island, New Territories and save time -2 main car parks which near the site for parking -metered parking spaces along the road with residential building created with octopus card parking meters, parents can have parking in convenient way.
Facilities -Commercial many focus in catering service, provide to place for people have food and drink. Shopping center ( 80 m on the south-east side of the site) provides retailing service. -Recreational land use such as cycling park, children’s playground, 7-a-side hard surface soccer pitch, basketball count, volleyball counts, etc (Sports ground and swimming pool 170m on the west side of the site) -Kids can have sport in leisure time, kindergarten also can host some outdoor activities like small-scale sport day. As those facilities are near the site, it can reduce the risks to have dangers by long travelling distance and have better security. -Other facilities like elderly fitness station and churches. Kindergarten can host some volunteer work like visit the elderly nursing as a kind of moral education. - Transportation open in all direction, accessible from all sides.
