Personal Brief developing A personal design brief for trafford park through research and aesthetic understanding. Brief 3.1b
Brief/ Introduction
the thing/brief Andy Croft
The intention of this brief is to discover what works and what does not work regarding Trafford Park, and to use data sets, information resources and site survey and analysis to provide evidence of these elements.
Through previous site visits assumptions and preconceptions have been developed about the site which will be investigate through this brief. The analysis undertaken will result in a conclusion of solutions to resolve site issues and exploit site advantages, which will lead to an intevention diagram illustrating this, through the application of the aesthetic elements: Line, colour, texture, enclosure, pattern and movement. Judgements will be made upon what does and does not work within the site, and these have been defined as -
Does:
Doesn’t:
The waterways The Economy & Industry
The scale The vegetation The lack of public space The lack of pedestrian movement

These graphics highlight the success of the economic activity within Trafford Park, but the limited cycle of development and inputs/outputs. Trafford park relies on this economic activity, so if it were to fail the site could quickly become obsolete...

issue The biggest issue with Trafford park is the lack
of public social space and a lack of identity or difference between areas of the site upon first impression. This lack of humanistic space has caused Trafford park to feel deserted and uninhabited. This, along with the lack of comprehensive green infrastructure has led Trafford park to become a utilitarian, unsustainable and barren site.
Solution Trafford Park requires an intervention that will embrace the entire site in a coherent manner. This intervention will involve a comprehensive installation of green infrastructure that can act as a sustainable binding agent for the site, to connect and reinvigorate all areas of the site whilst creating new forms and humanistic public realms within the site. Ecological developments will be made to restore and create habitats and ecological niches within the site, promoting biodiversity. Points will be developed to emphasise the sites history and change over time

1:10000@A1 This diagram is the product of my personal brief. The purpose of the diagram is to propose large scale interventions to be applied to the whole of trafford park: in my instance these are enclosure and coarse textures, slow pedestrian movement and colour and soft textures.
