This issue is a bloody humdinger, featuring exclusive interviews with the fat thumbed comedy genius Russell Howard, the far-tooclever director Rian Johnson, the terrifyingly hard Ben Drew (Plan B to you and me), the laptop genius Dan Le Sac, super catchy Fun. and Uni tips from the rather lovely Fresh Meat actress Charlotte Ritchie. IN LEEDS & SHEFFIELD Arctic cal heritage - from the lyrical wit of Yorkshire has a historically huge musi not And fs. Chie er Kais and es ctiv Pigeon Dete Monkeys and Pulp to the gritty pop of I h, “yea pick of our favourites so you can say forgetting, erm, Chumbawamba. Here is the ..”. saw em first, I was down at the front, man. If you imagine the sensation of being Pulled Apart by Horses, you're probably close to the force of this band. Expect loud, alternative rock with sinister riffs and a torturous undercurrent. And a delightful song about punching a lion in the throat. Equines can be evil, beware. Playing Leeds Met SU on November 16th.
Pulled Apart By Horses

Gorgeous country-pop-folk band Ellen And The Escapades were Glastonbury Unsigned winners in 2010, and released their debut album in April 2012. This is heartwarming music to melt to. Catch them at the Brudenell Social Club (Leeds) on 1st November. www.ellenandtheescapades.com
Ellen and The Escapades As worthy winners of this year's Futuresound competition, Post War Glamour Girls have secured a billing at Leeds Festival but their smaller gigs have been at the heart of Leeds music scene for some time. The lively yet moody, gruff voiced punk four piece play The Library (Leeds) on 13th October.
The Cribs Wakefield's finest musical export returned this year and we were pleased to find that the boys are still on form. They could well have gone the same way as Justin Bieber and ended up rapping over their intros. Come to think of it that would definitely be worth listening to. They’ll be at Sheffield O2 on 30th Oct. www.thecribs.com

Post War Glamour Girls The Wind-Up Birds may be named after a Japanese book but their The Wind-Up sound is reet Yorkshire. You can read their clever, witty lyrics from their website and mouth them back at the band sarcastically Birds at their gigs. They'd like that. Coming to the Fox & Newt (Leeds) on December 8th. www.thewindupbirds.co.uk

Alaska
ALASKA's sounds are far more fun than their bleak namesake. Transatlantic surf-pop til you can't stop. Everything from the album artwork to their music videos is created by local Leeds talent. Get dancing on September 7th at Brudenell Social Club. www.alaskaofficial.com
It's hard not to love a band called That Fucking Tank. The minimal noiserock drum and guitar duo have song titles to match including 'Bruce Springstonehenge' and Keanu Reef. – The unapologetic name may make them a challenge to promote but this only adds to their live appeal. Wharf Chambers hosts the band on October 15th.

Wet Nuns Decadence and destruction is the name of the game with Wet Nuns. They may be a duo but they ain't no White Stripes: the band's growling filth rock conjures up images of tattoos, motorcycles and Satan. www.wetnuns.com
Sheffield power-duo Drenge sound absolutely massive despite their miniscule size. They also have an uncompromising, sneery punk attitude which we surely don't see enough of these days. More please. facebook.com/drengeboys
Drenge
Black Spiders Two piece electro-toe-tapaholics Galaxians produce classic synth-funk from the 80s in a futuristic style. Programmed sounds accompanied by live acoustic drums which may cause disco dancing, without even the promise of a trophy. facebook.com/galaxiansband
Galaxians
There's definitely something evil going on in Sheffield to produce so many badass rock acts. Black Spiders make a hard-hitting classic rock noise the likes of which fans of AC/DC and KISS should bow down and worship. www.theblackspiders.com
Five piece psych-rock group Hookworms play lengthy songs with shouty vocals to test the limits of your ear drums. Very much from the DIY scene, they're stepping out of their garage and on to the stage at the Brudenell Social Club on September 4th. facebook.com/Hookworms
Hookworms Also keep an eye out for....Carnivals (Moving electronica), Middleman (Catchy bass-y rock), Gary Stewart (Leeds’ equivalent to Paul Simon)...

with ? 0 0 0 1 1 £with £ 0? with £100
Do you reckon you could turn it into a whole load more?
We’re looking for five of you entrepreneurial would-be Richard Bransons, Deborah Meadens and Alan Sugars to tell us how you would turn £100 into a real life profit making idea. Maybe you have some great concepts for tshirt designs that you want to sell, or maybe you want to put on a club night, or a gig? Or why stop there, maybe you could turn your living room into your own miniature pop up restaurant? Or a record label! We want you to send us your ideas, and the best five will get given £100 and two weeks to see how you get on - and the person who makes the biggest profit at the end of it can keep the lot! Plus, everyone else’s profits will go to the charity of the winner’s choice.
Are you on to a winner with your idea?? Email us at 100@ukstudentmedia.net briefly outlining your idea and how you would go about it, along with your name, address and phone number. Good luck! eless Wir11
