THE ANTICIPATION This piece is entitled ‘the anticipation’ as it draws from my first personal experience eating a xiao long bao. What i saw and felt was this mysteriousness and amazement at the dumpling; as it was brought out to our table in its bamboo basket, steam flowing out the top and sides and as the lid opened, this soft, smooth, delicate bun stood firm on its own. What’s inside? How do i eat it? Will it break easily? I drew direct imagery with nature and that of stumbling upon an unwatched bird’s nest or wandering in the forest and noticing a pure white foreign object, but the red bow, although inviting, also hints of caution and potential danger.
