esting lives, and we so often disregard what happens to us in the sense of the richness that does weave a magical wand through our daily existence. You truly do need to read all the interviews to see why I say this. Amazing people who share their lives with you and me. And then Paul Smit is going to be writing on a monthly basis for Aneis de Vida—bringing to you his insights and enabling you to dig a bit deeper.
Hello everyone and December is upon us! This months issue— it is chock a block full with interviews. It is so wonderful to connect with amazing people across the globe and then pass it on, to you the readers. So much has happened and I am extremely excited to tell you that Aneis de Vida is collaborating with Paul Smit, author, speaker and founder of Core Intention 1111.com. Plans are underway to offer intensive full-day legacy events, full weekend as well as week-long transformational retreats in the New Year . If I think back to a year ago, so much has happened and quite frankly I was not sure of the future at all. Suddenly being left with having to figure out how to design a magazine layout as I had no clue and bringing out the monthly issue still of reasonable quality. And yet here I am today, growing and feeling so blessed and amazed at the response to this magazine which is read far and wide, and a growing readership—it is a true WOW feeling.
What would Aneis de Vida be without the beautiful writings of Bea Potgieter, a warm and compassionate person. You will notice that Beryl Broekman has submitted an article on the star sign Sagittarius and she has felt guided to write a piece on all the star signs through the year. She has asked for feedback as she would love to know what you think of your birth sign and what she has written. Lou Worldweaver weaves his magic around Shamanism each month, taking away the long held superstitions of this beautiful practice. And this December show casing an amazing artist, Moragh Dann from here in Durban South Africa. If you wish to commission a piece of artwork, I can recommend her without batting and eye. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you and your families blessings, peace and love in your hearts and may that overflow to all creatures who live on earth. Stay safe and take care, till next year I love and leave you with the energy of love and peace. Please take note that the January 2016 issue will be published on the 4th January.
Being a single parent and juggling all that goes with doing business, and having an amazing daughter Love, light and blessings there have been times when I feel like sticking my ~Tilanie~ head in the sand, and then out of the blue a truly beautiful e-mail will come through and I know why I do what I do and with such passion and love. It is amazing really, we all have the most interAneis de Vida

He called her into his office and said, “Y’all graduated from the University of Georgia and I need some help. If I wuz to give yew $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?” The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, “Everthang but my earrings.” Louisiana A senior citizen in Louisiana was overheard saying, “When the end of the world comes, I hope to be in Louisiana ..” Aneis de Vida

Then he got back in the car to wait. A passerby studied the scene as he drove by, and was so curious he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the problem was. The man replied, “I got a flat tahr.” The passerby asked, “But what’s with the flowers?” The man responded, “When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. I never did understand it neither.”
The Sheriff pulled up next to the guy unloading garbage out of his pick-up into the ditch. The Sheriff asked, “Why are you dumping garbage in the ditch? Don’t you see that sign right over your head.” “Yep,” he replied. “That’s why I’m dumpin’ it here, ‘cause it says: ‘Fine For Dumping Garbage.’” Florida A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left. “Amazing,” he thought as he flew down I-95, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a Florida State Trooper, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this!” and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival. Pulling in behind him, the trooper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the Corvette. He looked at his watch, then said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a new reason for speeding – a reason I’ve never before heard – I’ll let you go..”

attend one of his lectures, which she did. For her it was realising the emotions surrounding her death threats needed to be relinquished from her very soul. It was in 2009 that she knew in her heart she embark on a journey. Not just any kind of journey but this would be for her first book, and she felt that once she had written it she would leave this world. In other words she was contemplating taking her life. Whilst she was writing her book something deep and profound changed inside of her. She knew that what she was about to write had never been recorded. And yet she still had this feeling that she would write her book and depart from this life. Judith was once again standing but this time in person on a cliff overhang in Knysna South Africa when words again came to her ‘’she would live well into her 100’s’’ – this was of course not something which she wanted to hear at that point in her life. Her journey began with her teaching in Qatar in the Middle East. Laughingly she says ‘’there is a reason why prophets always land up in the desert’’. They were and are sent there for no other reason but to learn, and she found herself learning. It was there in the blazing hot desert, in the depths of despair that she started sharing what was in her heart. She was inspiring people and by doing this she herself became inspired. Through this journey she began to understand that she had to take responsibility for her new life. Judith knew that her book was not just about writing the nuances but it was the soul concept of reconnecting.
Our minds are unable to fathom that we were once fluid and we fight with our animal (human) side and our higher consciousness. The fall to 3D came about during the time of Atlantis when as Judith points out they lived the way they should not have. And yet many of the souls from the Atlantis times have reincarnated into this time again. The lesson for them being to reclaim their lives as sons and daughters of the Sun God. It is a central sun like energy part of the divine creation of the 12 galaxies. There are 75 names for God/Source/Divine Power. And it could very well be because it is an energy and purity which is indescribable. Judith herself was taken before this light energy which she feels extremely privileged to have experienced because she was told that even at soul level no one could look upon this pure light without disintegrating. Our souls are a spark or as Judith prefers to refer to it, a flame of God/Source/Divine Energy. She reminds that this Divine Light/God/Source burst forth from darkness, and light always wins over the darkness, and multiplied to create 12 galaxies of which humanity cannot grasp the concept of this great divinity. And yet the heart and the soul of all man knows the truth, but the mind shuts down at the vastness and seems unable for most to tap into this magnificence.
The essence is that we do not claim our soul power, the love with which we were created and what we need to pour out into the world. Our soul has a ripple effect, but it has to be authentic, and you need to be of service. It is the divines job or purpose to make In Qatar, she did not only cry tears for herself, but for your dream grow outward to the world. We need to learn to live empowered lives, connected to our divine source. Love with your whole heart, soul and being. Life is a continual journey says Judith and we need to get our dreams and visions to come alive. And her words of wisdom are that you write your dream down daily, envisage it, believe in your heart that this is your soul purpose and the divine will answer your wish. began:: when I awoke, truly, to Source. When I embodied my role as a teacher / uplifter, and came to learn the best kept secret in life: that we will never get it done – our stories are as Infinite as we are. There is always more to learn, explore and in-joy in life! For this I am forever in appreciation. Remembering who we are at our core and living through this truth every day…this is my purpose and my path to inspire.
And that was ok, it was where I was at and it served me at that time. But when I was ready to free myself and let go of the suffering and the attachments to it, I came to understand that I could manifest health on all levels if only I allowed. I just had to get out of my own way and let my inner being guide.
Coming from a scientific background, I once thought the best way to come into wellness was through pharmaceutical means; that we have to take something external to bring our inner environment back into balance. Through my own healing journey, moving through depression, Lyme’s disease and more recently hypothyroidism, I appreciate that our body has its own intelligence; its own consciousness that is forever speaking to us if only we chose to listen.
Do you feel that the world is able to actually make a full turn around, with regards to their awakening or is it only a few in an ocean who are able and willing to do so?

this experience. Yet, we knew before we came to incarnate that we were doing so to enjoy physical reality, the idea of time and space and all the senses of a manifested world. We knew that we were One with Creator and while in a physical body, we would create our own reality. True, many do not embody this for they haven’t remembered yet who they truly are, but this is ok. All degrees of vibration that a person is experiencing contributes to the advancement of the world and I feel that we don’t need to, nor is it our duty to ‘awaken’ anyone or anything. Perhaps it is ignorant to assume otherwise for if you are looking through Sources perspective, you will naturally see that each person is already enlightened, they may just not have remembered this yet. The best I feel we can do to support our fellow brothers and sisters is to honour the life they are living and see the Divine within them, knowing the journey they are on is perfect for them right now.

Carmelene Melanie Siani By Tilanie Meierhans
Aneis de Vida

December 2015
Did anyone believe that they are too old to do something new? Well think again. Interviewing Carmelene Melanie Siani was absolutely wonderful and so refreshing. She bubbles with enthusiasm for life. A vibrancy that many younger people have lost or is it that there is a love for life in Carmelene? Whatever it is we can all take a page out of her book of life and begin to love life and all its wonderful gifts. Living in Tucson California she is the daughter of Italian immigrants. Her father was the only one on his side of the family that was actually born on American soil. And Carmelene is quick to point out that she has inherited his abilities for laughing at life, or rather she says that when she was younger it was something she learned by watching him. Yet I doubt very much that it is purely learnt – it is in her very soul that it resonates outward to encompass all who are fortunate enough to know her on any level.
Wind’’ and wanted her child to have an all American name as well, so Melanie was added. We did have a good giggle in the interview as Carmelene says ‘’thank goodness my mother didn't decide to use Scarlett as my middle name’’. Though in all honesty I do believe even Scarlett would have suited Carmelene beautifully. And then Siani is her maiden name. This women has an amazing gift and talent for writing articles that resonate with young and old. And she writes from the heart, her life experience and yet, within those experiences lie the foundation of all our life experiences even today. Her age affords her the ability to look back and give advice from the wisdom gained to date. She is what would loosely be termed self-taught in the area of writing. It was never a passion for her, as many other writers, bloggers, authors so often say about their writing. For Carmelene it started quite by accident. She was in high school and read a piece by the girl who had won in a writing contest every year and thought to herself ‘’I can do better than this’’ as she felt this girls writing was quite terrible. So she entered the competition and lone behold she won. One would think she would continue her writing but no, that is where it ended for a long time. Her second husband was a writer, and one day she showed him some of her written work and he said she was made to write. And then she picked up her talent again but not for too long as shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Though this did not stop him from running off with someone much younger.
Her life was definitely not one of the easiest either, she landed up in an orphanage for three years as did her sister. Now this left her with the feeling of being unloved and not worthy enough of love and life and who could blame her for those feelings. Like so many she has had to struggle with these emotions of unworthiness, but she has conquered them albeit through many years of sweat and tears, but she has won. And the most amazing thing is Carmelene now in her 70’s has managed to love herself. And it does not come from a state of being egotistical, no this lady is everything but. She just knows her worth, and loves her good and her bad, and she shares her experience and gives freely her advice on life. This is how After the divorce, she put the house on the market we should all be of course, loving who we are warts and sold it. She picked up the cheque for the sale and all. and was driving around thinking to herself ‘’I have a Looking at her names I was struck by the unusualness large sum of money in my bag and no one to share and as I admitted to Carmelene when doing the inter- this day with’’. And for some it will seem like a fairy tale and others will be judgemental but however you view or rather till she had pronounced her name I wish to look at it this is where Carmelene and her side stepped calling her by name—not wanting to journey with writing again started in a way about 2 sound completely ignorant for not knowing how to pronounce her beautiful name. Well I did confess as years later. we progressed through the interview. Carmelene is a She went home and opened up Craig’s List and there beautiful Italian name, and the Melanie—just before was an advert stating the following: ‘’Looking for she was born, her mother had read ‘’Gone with the someone who enjoys theatre, opera, the arts and Aneis de Vida

who will be appreciated and who likes to be appreciated’’. Carmelene responded to the advert and within a few short days met her husband of today. He had lost his wife to breast cancer a few weeks prior to this. And yes many will say he did not grieve long enough and all the other clichés that go hand in hand with the ‘’normal’’ boxed attitudes. Yet, if one is honest, life is to be lived and they make each other happy, he did grieve for his wife through the whole process of watching her die, anyone who has had the misfortune of losing someone to this disease will know it to be so. The most important part of this information is that life is to be celebrated as they now celebrate their 3rd wedding anniversary and may there be many more to come for them.
(Carmelene and her husband)
A little over a year ago someone put a post onto her Facebook page, and as what happened when she was in high school she thought to herself ‘’I can do better than this’’. And her journey with Elephant Journal began. Even though she admits she did wonder whether her age would in actual fact not be a ‘’handicap’’, she soon came to realise it was her greatest asset – and she is not wrong.
Here one of her articles and others can be found in Elephant Journal.
I PROMISED MYSELF I WOULD NEVER FORGIVE MY MOTHER - SECOND POST 31 January When I was three-years-old my mother put me, my one-year-old sister and two small cardboard suitcases into a car she had borrowed and drove us into the hills outside of Philadelphia to drop us off at an orphanage. She called it a “nursery school for little girls” and kept saying in a big, over-happy voice that we would like it there. I don’t remember her telling us anything about why she had to bring us to St. Theresa’s or how long we were going to stay. Maybe it had something to do with my father going away in his sailor suit, or maybe it had something to do with all the yelling between her and her mother ever since we moved in together. I was obviously too little to know and in fact I am only guessing now. If we ever asked her about it, she either gave an explanation that didn’t make sense or just changed the subject. They say a child is shaped by the time she is three years old. If that’s true, then I was unshaped at the same age. When I went into the orphanage, I was a little girl who saw the sun shining in her mother’s hair. But my mother took the sun with her when she left and for the entire two years I was there, instead of love light, I would see darkness all around me. I shrivelled down into myself and became afraid and two years later, when my mother came back to get us, I was even afraid of her. Ultimately, if a three-year-old can hate, I came to hate my mother for leaving me to find my own way in that awful dark. St. Theresa’s was actually a convent of Hungarian

nuns who, during the war, saw a need and started taking in orphans. It wasn’t a bad place, but even so, it was to me a place filled with strangeness and strangers. It was a place where they didn’t speak my language and didn’t cook my food and where the women wore long black dresses and long black veils and long blank faces.
ing, Germany and once again, I was in a strange environment surrounded by women wearing long black veils and long black skirts, eating food I didn’t recognize and listening to a language I didn’t understand. This time it would be different however. This time, I would cry.
My world, as I knew it, was gone and all of my touchstones went with it. When they dragged my baby sister’s crib up next to mine and I reached out to pat my hand on her stomach to try to make her stop crying I wished and wished that I could cry too. But I couldn’t. What was the point? I didn’t have a big sister to reach out and pat my stomach. I didn’t have anyone. I thought if I let myself feel anything at all, a hole so big would open up inside of me that I would fall into it and never be able to come out.
I spent the first seven days of the retreat weeping the copious silent tears that seem to come only with meditation. "Just sit and let the tears flow," my meditation teacher said. "It's an unloading of your unconscious." I would come to understand however, that the tears were also the unloading of the unexpressed grief that a three-year-old in another convent a lifetime away had been unable to shed and, as they poured out an enormous relief began to wash over me.
I would fall asleep night after night watching my mother walk away in her pink high heel shoes, little clouds of dust puffing into the air with each step.
Then, on the eighth day of the retreat, I had just dropped my eyelids for the early morning sitting, when I caught a glimpse of something vivid in the And so, while I was at St. Theresa’s, a brooding stone corner of my mind’s eye. of survival and hate grew around my heart, a stone At first I wasn’t sure what I was seeing or even that I so big and so heavy that even as I eventually had chil- was seeing something. Then, over 50 years later, in that strange way that life I had known many of the details of my mother’s life: has of repeating events, I would find myself in a conhomesickness for Italy, anxiety at school, anxiety at vent. I had signed up for a 10 day meditation in TutzAneis de Vida

being an immigrant, and of course, her ultimate death from the ravages of Alzheimer’s. But in that long wordless gaze of her eyes on mine, my mother silently told me of the losses, hopes and dreams beyond what I had ever known. With an unwavering look, she revealed beyond mere words the fullness of herself to me.
enough, the emotional memories of the orphanage that had been front and centre on my internal stage would fade and take with them the stone of resentment that I had carried all my life.
In that spontaneous moment of the little girl with the upturned face I finally understood that, orphanage aside, my mother was a human being in the greater sense -- just like me -- and that the life she had lived was hers to live, not mine to judge. Unbidden, she gave me something I had been trying to grasp all my life -- she gave me forgiveness -- and it flowed between us, from me to her for her abandonment and, without my even asking for it, from her to me for having so bitterly resented her all her life.
And soon enough, I would stop seeing my mother walking away in her pink high heeled shoes. Instead I would see the little girl with the upturned face. I would see her and I would see me. We would be standing together side by side on the deck of that great ship of forgiveness - holding hands.
Soon enough, I would feel gratitude for nuns who take in orphans and who conduct retreats, and for mothers who are forced to make choice-less choices.

A clean sweep of compassion overrode me. I have looked back on the vision of the ship many times in the long years since that retreat. Soon

Intention is something you hold, having formed an idea out of the contrast of your experiences, which you have chosen to remain focused on. Intention by this definition involves using the buffer of time regarding the commitment of the individual holding it. The time deliberately used to focus on the intention, effects the time it takes for the attraction to arrive; it is here where alignment is formed in focused, thoughtful attention to any subject of choice.
You Are the Beginning Point of Any Intention, Large or Small Intention begins within you. Within your mind, your imagination is a place or domain where minutes of dreaming can seem like hours or days of exploration. Time is not relevant until the intention is formed and you have committed to a chosen point of focus in order to form alignment with the subject, therefore activating the Law of Receiving so that YOUR desire to experience something is fulfilled. How you use time is very relevant to your receiving of something, as your dedication will focus something into position and you will align. If your focus were to drift from event to event, or random physical occurrences, then your alignment with anything focused on for whatever period of time, December 2015
will be the same and your attractions will be evident in the array of UNWANTED occurrences and the frequency they occur within your reality or contrast. A day as you know, can hold many intentions and every intention takes up periods of time. Periods of time that give birth to POWERFUL EMOTION, the same vibrational emotion you use to attract people, places, and things into your reality. When you do not have some commitment to a preference within the contrast of reality, then you will be subject to the assorted contrast before you.
What has just occurred is DELIBERATE ALIGNMENT, meaning in a simple manner YOU formed alignment with YOUR GREATER INTENTION. Your task in this process is to constantly canvas everything you see in accordance to your intention, so having a specific intention here is KEY.

The MORE TIME you give intention, the QUICKER the attraction and alignment occurs. This does not mean that in a day of 24 hours you will need to focus 18 hours of positive focus to get what you want. Fed a Strange Baby an Orange By Shari Rood Aneis de Vida
43
December 2015
It was a beautiful morning on the beach at Umdloti. Rog and I had heard that bad weather was coming in later so we went on our usual pre-breakfast stroll. I had to walk to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. We had no car which was inconvenient, but at least it meant another hour of exercise under my belt.
“Hi,” I said to the boy who looked to be about six. “Do you speak English?” He shook his head no. “Ah,” I said. He smiled and darted back to the water. The mom came back up and I was sure she was coming to fetch her little one. She patted her on the head, said something in Zulu to her, smiled at us and took off down the beach.
When I got home we decided to set up camp on the beach while the good weather lasted. A cold front was moving in and already Cape Town had been hit with freezing temperatures. It was in the upper 20’s here though so we set up our mat and umbrella and I lay in the sun soaking in the rays like an iguana.
I looked at Rog in alarm. He, as usual was totally chilled out. “Um, is she coming back, do you think?” He shrugged, “I think she’s probably going to get her a snack.”
I took off to go swim, Rog wasn’t ready yet so he stayed behind. I jumped into the brisk yet beautifully clear water and stayed in almost an hour. I think my skin was nearly blue by the time I got out, but it was worth it.
“Do you know if that’s what she said?”
shirt. She was really fascinated by the sand and kept scooping up handfuls and studying it as if it contained some hidden mystery to the key to life, which it probably does.
After awhile the mom came back. She dropped an orange and a bag of cheese puffs in the sand and ran off down the beach to play soccer with some guys. “Okay, now I know we’ve been had. Right? This baby can’t peel an orange by herself and she can’t open a bag of snacks. We’re the babysitters, right?”
“Not really,” he said.
The baby continued to study the mysteries of the sand and I said, “You think the mom thought, Hey, these two middle-aged people are just sitting here When I got back to our camp I noticed the addition of doing nothing, maybe they can just babysit for the a little person. She was sitting on our mat next to day?” Rog. I smiled at him and said, “What’s this?” “Probably,” he said. “A visitor,” he said. “She toddled over here and sat I sat watching the ocean as the tide went out. More down and doesn’t seem to want to leave.” swimmers arrived and the beach steadily filled up. I sat down next to her and said, “Do you speak EngThe Zulu woman who walks up and down the beach lish?” heavily laden with hats, buckets and shovels and oth“I think she’s too young,” Rog said. er assorted beach stuff that she sells to the tourists gave me a quizzical look as I sat there with the “Oh.” I looked at her, she was really cute. She was strange baby by my side. wearing hello kitty slippers, pink overalls and a pink
“Where’s her Mom?” Rog pointed to a young girl who appeared to be about thirteen although I’m sure she was older. She was swimming and playing with a young boy, presumably her son. The son came out of the water and walked up to the child. I figured he’d take her away. He tugged at her and but she shook her head and wouldn’t budge.

“Looks like,” Rog said. I opened the cheese puffs and she opened her mouth obediently as I put one near her face and popped it into her mouth. She ate a few but looked longingly at the orange. I peeled it and broke each segment into two pieces. Her little hands were covered in sand so I shoved the segments into her mouth one bit at a 44

time. She seemed to like this and every now and then if I wasn’t fast enough, she’d turn her head and open her mouth and I’d pop another orange slice into her little face. I was kind of ready to have another swim eventually. Almost an hour had passed and while I was enjoying the company of this little person, I really did want to get up. Rog and I agreed that when she was finished with the orange, we’d find the mother and hand her back.
We rushed inside, watching from the safety of our apartment as the stormy weather approached. The clouds soared by at high speed, shifting and changing into the most amazing creatures. Dragons, turtles, monkey heads. So, it was a good day. They say that having new experiences helps you to live longer. I can now add, Fed a strange baby an orange, to that list.
Right as I was giving her the last segment, her mom came back. Rog and I got up and said, “We’re going to swim now, okay?” She nodded and smiled and took the baby whose name I still do not know away. We had our swim and as predicted as if a switch was turned on, the bad weather moved in. A howling gale swept the beach and the sand started pelting us. Families everywhere folded their umbrellas and tents, gathered their things and quickly made their way off the beach.

Headaches
RED FLAGS
Generally headaches respond well to massage, but it must be known that the sustainable treatment of headaches can be done once the cause is known.
Headaches can also be a sign of disease and great care needs to be taken if the following symptoms present themselves:
Some of the causes may be low or high blood pressure, exhaustion, dehydration and be hormone or medication related. Some food disturbances may also be the cause. Some of these include dairy, chocolate or coffee.
The sudden onset of very severe headaches
Types of headaches:
Severe headaches at night
Migraine
Headaches following trauma, or accompanied by seizures and vomiting without nausea
Usually females more commonly suffer with this type of headache. This is a severe headache during which the sufferer may prefer to be in a dark room with no noise or activity in an attempt to relieve the pain. Many experience this kind of headache with a kind of "aura" that includes visual spots, colours, smells and other sensations just before the headache starts. This is normally an indication as to an impending migraine, which can last for 1-4 days.
Cluster headaches
The onset of headaches in an older person Persistent and severe headaches in a child Headaches associated with cognitive changes
Headaches associated with drug or alcohol dependance Constant headaches that become severe Headaches associated with existing cancers In such cases a medical professional must always be consulted Source: Camelot International sports massage manual (2013) p. 158.
Usually this sufferer tends to be male and this headache is sometimes relieved by movement. It has been said that the pain is so severe that the person wants to hit their head on the wall. This sufferer is usually agitated and has sinus/allergy problems. Sometimes this headache is triggered by alcohol, tobacco or allergens and normally occurs in clusters for 1-2 weeks for up to a year, followed by pain free intervals. The headaches normally last less than 3 hours, but may occur many times in a day.
Tension headache These headaches are the most common and are caused by tension in the neck muscles which is aggravated by stress or strong emotions. Massage will greatly benefit sufferers from tension headaches.
Cervicogenic headache This is a headache resulting from a misalignment of the spine in the cervical area and responds well to chiropractic care. Aneis de Vida

Have you ever tried to sit and meditate only to find that no matter how hard you try you just can’t silence your mind? Well you’re not alone, every time I would try to meditate, just as I got to that quiet space, I would start thinking about it and fall out of it. With greater resolve and effort, I would strive to find that elusive state of radio silence within my skull-sized world, only to fail repeatedly. My frustration grew as I sat in the traditional uncomfortable cross-legged pretzel, with my elbows awkwardly perched on my knees and arbitrary fingers curled against each thumb. I would attempt to hold this unnatural pose for what seemed like hours, while reverently chanting OM through an overly prolonged exhale. It’s exhausting just describing it let alone doing it successfully. Eventually I got so irritated at how much hard work it was that I convinced myself I was incapable of meditating and just gave it up altogether.
cially if we do it with curiosity. As I breathe in I pay attention to how it feels as the air enters my nose and vibrates against my nasal passages. I notice how it feels as my lungs expand causing my chest to rise and my abdomen to inflate. I simply put my attention on how these things feel. If I find myself thinking about it, I just acknowledge the thought and gently choose to bring my focus back to the next breath. The same thing goes with the exhale, I become aware of how it feels as I release the air through my mouth. I feel my chest slowly deflating as my abdomen falls back to a relaxed position. The only thing I need to focus on is what I am feeling, without trying to figure it out or make sense of it. This can be done for a few breaths while stuck in traffic, waiting at the check-out line or sitting a desk. It can even become a longer daily routine.
When I reflect back over the years since I stopped ‘trying’ to meditate, I realize that I have actually been meditating all along. Meditation happens in many more ways than I originally thought. Every time we pause to consider, contemplate, muse, reflect, ruminate or deliberate over something, we are meditating. It’s a natural occurrence that doesn’t require us to purposefully go out of our way to do it. Meditation occurs from a choice to focus our attention on a single thing, thought, idea or image. We only need to become aware of what is attracting our attention and choose to focus on being with what we are experiencing from it without thinking about or analyzing what’s happening. It’s this kind of conscious attentiveness to something that creates the space for a meditative state. Pay attention to what we see, smell, taste and hear I want to share some techniques with you that have around us. Our senses are always communicating valbeen valuable tools in helping me to mend my relauable information with us about our environment tionship with meditation and to find greater levels of and surroundings. times I go outside and listen to the sounds of nature. The important thing is to just be present with the sound without thinking about it or processing it. conscious awareness to what we are feeling and to acknowledge these emotions for the valuable insights they bring to us. Once the emotion passes; and it will, let it go without needing to give it another thought and we can move on with our day by putting our attention on what is most important for us to do next.
If we are feeling the presence of an uncomfortable emotion, like stress, anger or anxiety the typical response is to suppress or ignore it because it’s judged to be negative or bad. These types of emotions are natural and unavoidable, so it’s in our best interest to learn to accept and be with them instead of avoiding or obsessing over them. As I sit with the emotion that I’m currently feeling, I pay attention to the voices rattling around in my head without worrying about what they are saying. I let these voices turn into white noise, like the hissing sound a radio makes in between stations. Then I move my awareness away from my mind and down into my body. I notice where there is tension, stiffness or tightness. Once again, I just remain present with how it feels, reminding myself that emotions are just energy, they can bring me no harm. If I start thinking, I gently acknowledge my mind for whatever it’s saying and choose to put my attention back on the body feeling. I allow my curiosity to guide me back to being aware of the sensations in my body. These sensations are trying to tell me about something I need. It could be that I’m feeling afraid or anxious about a current situation I’m facing or perhaps my body just needs more rest to rejuvenate itself. The goal is to bring more
It's no surprise to realize that there are countless ways to meditate anywhere and anytime during the course of your day. Meditation doesn’t have to be hard, time consuming work, requiring us to carve out precious time from our already busy lives. Even if we only do it for a few moments, we will soon find ourselves accessing a greater sense of tranquillity and peace no matter what's going on around us. Turning this into a regular practise will effectively reduce stress, worry, anxiety and lack of focus while it improves our relationships, creativity and overall health.

As we enter into the festive season our thoughts turn to decorating. Well, mine do. I was a professional Florist for over twenty years and got used to being very busy at this time of year. As an American, we have a one, two, three punch as far as Holidays are concerned. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. In South Africa, it’s different. Instead of cold weather and snow you have hot weather and glorious sunshine for Christmas. I’ve spent a lot of time in both places and I enjoy a good holiday wherever I am. Since there are too many to count in the land of the braai’s and beautiful coasts, I’m going to concentrate on Christmas. Specifically, making a Christmas centerpiece.

Table Flower Arrangement

A Christmas centerpiece doesn’t have to be traditional. Here it’s easy to get holly and boxwood but there, I find you can do a lovely arrangement that is just as festive with flowers that will be in full bloom this time of year.

When I lived in South Africa I did a demonstration for my Mum-in-laws garden club and the day before, she took me around to her friend’s houses to basically raid their gardens. The flowers are stunning out there. Most Americans have a nice green lawn and call it a day but South Africa has an ideal climate for growing just about anything. So, we ended up with quite a haul and I had so much fun designing arrangements with all of the flowers we picked. I didn’t have to buy a single bloom. I’m guessing you won’t either.

ing foliage as it is a sure sign that the flowers are either old or were not conditioned properly.
The foliage test. When I was last in South Africa I was staying in a complex that had ample foliage that could be picked. I snipped a piece from each bush and tree that I thought was interesting and then re-cut each piece and placed the ends in water. Whatever survived is what I used. Some wilted almost immediately, but others held up well. Just be sure not to pick anything that is protected. It’s not worth going to jail just to make a pretty centerpiece. If in doubt, ask your local florist. They will also sell the basics like fern and other greens that will work, but I like to add in garden foliage to make it more interesting.
What you will need. A plastic container, preferably one that will nestle inside of a slightly larger decorative container.
Step one. Soak the floral foam. The best way to do this is to fill a bucket with water, place the foam on top and let it slowly sink. It will absorb more water that way.
Sticky floral tape
Next, place the foam in your plastic container. Wrap the sticky tape around the entire thing. You won’t see One brick of floral foam it once you place it in your decorative container. Another idea is to get white king Protea from your local Florist. They aren’t cheap, but they are long lasting. Those arranged in a swath of greenery would look great for Christmas.
In Williamsburg Virginia, the famous colonial town, they make centerpieces of fruit. You can easily do this by making a round bed of greens in your floral container, buy some braai skewers and cut them to the right length, skewer the fruit at the bottom and arrange. Apples and oranges work the best for this. Red and gold apples make a beautiful centerpiece.
There is also the option of doing an all white centerpiece. White lilies, white anthuriums, roses, alstroemeria, caspia, and any other white flowers you like. Somewhere inside of us we know what is beneficial for us. Just like the sun knows to shine or the tree knows that it is a cherry tree and it will bare cherries in its right season, so do we know what is right for us. And because we are each so individual with our own unique characteristics, what is good for someone else will not necessary be good for us. Being true to ourselves is not the easiest of life’s mission as most have experienced. A group of youth was asking me some questions about health and the challenges that taking those practices into the world place, brings. It made me think how this time of the year, the festive season, brings the same difficulties for many people. If you are a non-meat eater, you are challenged for not participating in the Christmas Feast. If you choose not to drink, you are ridiculed for being a party pooper and so I am sure each of us have our stories on how society dictates the standards of what is acceptable and not.
ing a loss of some kind. Hearts are sore and the trust that was once experienced has been broken. How do we mend that? We have been led to believe that a gift has to be material in order for it to be worthy. If we look back in our lives we would see that the best memories were those when we shared a moment, be it a conversation, a good belly laugh, a kind word. If you had nothing of material value to offer someone, how could you give of yourself? What could you do this festive season that would break the spiraling mentality of consumerism? Redefine the Art of Giving.
May you be inspired beyond your wildest imagination…. Just for fun…….
The truth is, whether you are in your youth or at later stages of your life journey, there is someone questioning your motivations. One would hope from a genuine point of interest but as we have all experienced, not always. Being interested in another’s decision to make supportive life changes brings opportunities to learn something new, expand your own information centre without you having to do all the research, be a friend and listen, be honest – their decision may not fall into your realm of understanding and you could express this giving them some insight into where you come from. However, listening to the anguish in these youths voices, I recognized there is more to their dilemma. They are facing enormous world challenges that require drastic changes if they want to live in a world that we once lived in. Over consumerism, exploitation of the earth’s resources, exploitation of animals and the shocking animal practices that are employed, human rights dissolved as institutions deploy their monetary agendas are a miniscule aspect of what past generations are handing over to them. It can be somewhat overwhelming as where does one begin? Everywhere in the world, someone is experiencAneis de Vida

Messages from the Master
Then one day someone crosses your path, and sees YOU, for them YOU stand out and they pick you up, hold you, feel the warmth you ripple through their skin, make them smile. They may keep you close by for awhile, or they may want to spread the joy of what you bring by skipping you across the water top, spreading ripples far and wide.... Even a small pebble can make a HUGE impact. Sometimes the biggest pebbles just sink ....
Messages from the Master, are channelled conversations with Atenar, a Master Healer, Spirit Guide, my personal Gate Keeper, SoulMate, Best Friend and Advisor I greet you all and thank you for allowing me to stand with you in the circle of light . My wish is for you to read, absorb what is meant for you and help the circle grow and shine with more light .

We are all the same in our weaknesses and greatness, we are all one ... we all carry that same stardust in our souls which carry the memories of ALL the lessons we have learnt along the way and we are all capable of spreading ripples of positive energy everywhere we go. The time to make a change has already started.
I come to you this month like the pebble....hard, rounded, and well hidden amongst the masses
The time to make the world a more positive place for all . The time to stand and be counted and make ripples to every single person that crosses your path in any way or form

Trauma has specific components which identify it as such. For instance, it involves extremely powerful emotions such as fear, helplessness or horror, resulting from experiencing, seeing or just being confronted by an event which involves death or serious injury to oneself, loved ones or even friends. An example of this would be the effect on victims and families of the World Trade Centre destruction in 2001. However, trauma can also result from being the victim of violent crime or serious abuse. Such an event sets off a roller-coaster of emotional, psychological and physical reactions which can take years to settle and from which some people may never fully recover. It can take place at any time in one’s life, including childhood, and its impact will depend on the degree of violence involved, the severity of the event and the coping mechanisms of the person involved.
For example, childhood trauma could result from the child being caught up in a natural disaster such as an earthquake, a serious accident in which family members are killed, being the victim of, or simply witnessing violent crime directed at his or her parents. It could also be the result of serious violence directed at the child by a parent (or parents), but as I said, it is usually associated with a specific event (or events) with far-reaching consequences such as rape. Other less violent forms of sexual or emotional abuse are more likely to result in other disorders.
Childhood Trauma By

As I said, trauma results in a chain–reaction of symptoms which unfold over a period of weeks and months. In the case of children, who have not yet developed complex coping mechanisms, the most likely symptoms would be emotional numbness and withdrawal (or frequent agitation, outbursts and crying) an inability to perform tasks (schoolwork), not eating and sleeping properly (nightmares) and physical ailments such as running stomach, cramps and other illnesses. If they are old enough to verbalise their emotions, they may talk about feeling very scared and helpless.
78
December 2015
Trauma is a serious situation and requires immediate counselling by a qualified therapist. This is not something that can be dealt with by the parents or school. If it is not handled quickly and effectively, it can become what is known as post-traumatic stress disorder which can be a debilitating situation for both children and adults. The effects of trauma can persist through adolescence and adulthood resulting in persistent fears and images of the event, frightening dreams and memories, hallucinations and imaginings, an inability to concentrate and can even affect one’s personality (increased irritability, anger and withdrawing socially and emotionally).
to process the event (s) more successfully and develop better coping skills, these symptoms, in the case of PTSD, can go on to severely affect one’s adult family, social and working life. Few partners would be able to put up with the outbursts and unpredictability of a person suffering from this disorder and it certainly will affect one’s parenting skills as well, due to the effects on one’s personality (withdrawal, anger and irritability). The preoccupation with the images and pain of the past (and the subsequent inability to concentrate effectively) could also affect one’s choice of career and ability to work.
Trauma can be treated by therapy directed at returning the persons sense of mastery and control and this normally involves changing their thoughts about the event. To answer the question of whether we are victims of our childhood trauma, much depends on the support and treatment received during and after the event. Trauma is one of the most difficult issues to deal with and unless the child receives the correct support and treatment immediately, is empowered

The aim in CHAKRADANCETM is to form an on-going relationship between our unconscious and consciousness so we can reach our fullest potential via the 7 main chakras, which govern the health of specific body parts and organs. Each chakra influences a different aspect of your lives: belonging; pleasure; self; compassion; integrity; intuition and rationality.
It is sensible then to consider that the most important skill we can develop to bring balance to our Third Chakra, is by altering our ‘I won’t’, to ‘I will’. Externally and consciously we can strengthen our WILL by creating an intention, which we then focus upon unwaveringly, and make real-time changes that will serve that intention – we DO. to your soul’s physical homeland your true name Earthkeeper is a Divine universal code and declaration of Love
When a child connects with the wonder intrinsic to Nature it sparks off a fire within…a guiding light of knowledge and wisdom…an infinite source of love and divinity. Nature mirrors to a child how incredibly precious they are. Nature has its own way of revealing to the child that he/she too is and is part of Nature. It is this knowledge and sense of wonder that becomes an endless source of internal affirmation, validation and support. Nature is the greatest teacher of respect, collaboration, interconnection, love, hope, harmony, courage and balance. With each authentic interaction my child has with Nature, I witness his self -confidence, sense of competency, respect for life and himself and many other potentialities awaken, grow and develop. My heart warms with gratitude towards Nature, this beautiful partner in parenting. Nature feeds and strengthens his capacity to hold compassion and empathy for all living beings.
living beings. It is with this love and respect that a child can truly become a purposeful human being, making a meaningful contribution to life. Richard Louv in his book: “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder” shows that research has revealed that children who have a healthy relationship with nature are physically healthier, have better concentration, are more focussed, have better problem-solving skills, are more creative, have better self-esteem and self-worth. Time spent in nature also reduces stress, anxiety, depression and attention-deficit symptoms. Nature equals health. But the simplest truth of a child’s relationship to nature is that in nature a child learns about being through simple, joyful engagement and play. So as adults we have a responsibility to the children of this planet. We need to: a.
Connect our children with nature.
b.
Explore the critical ‘soft’ and hard skills we need to teach children to prepare for a sustain able future and harmonious co-existence with the natural world.
c.
Find practical ways in which children can con nect with Nature, learn sustain able practice es, respect and protect the environment.
d.
Teach children through interaction with nature and animals the basis of com passion.
"Until one has loved an animal, part of one’s soul remains unawakened." ~ Anatole France Animals are pure nature. A child’s relationship with an animal is considered a protective psychological factor. It is often a child’s first contact with true Nature.
Dr. Cheryl Charles, educator, author and co-founder of the Children and Nature Network (www.childrenandnature.org), believes that nature is the first classroom of life. This is where a child learns about the natural cycles in all of life, beginnings, endings, respect, harmony and compassion for all of life, including self. The Wonder of Children in Nature. A little story… It was a beautiful spring evening. The moon coming into full bloom cast its luminescent glow across the water. The tide was low, revealing fluorescent gems in the shallow waters. It seemed like everything was wrapped in a mysterious glow. In silence, I observed this magnificent creature fishing for his dinner. Time was of no significance as I watched him step into the waves and skillfully fish. For what seemed the longest time, I was lost in this story unfolding before me. The experience of interconnectedness in these moments of complete sensorial attunement and engagement with Nature was sublime. The next moment this sacred moment was ‘interrupted’ by another sacred moment. Three little children ranging in ages from 3 to 10 came running up with shrieks of joy and amazement at this creaAneis de Vida

ture’s ability to fish and gobble up his dinner. To see the glow of wonder for Nature in her most raw and spontaneous form on their little faces imprinted deeply on my soul. In their exuberance they just wanted to step closer. I explained to them that keeping a respectful distance is important in allowing him to do what he does best and in doing that they can continue to watch him fish and eat his dinner in peace. These little gems immediately accepted my explanation and continued to observe in awe…until their curious little beings required novelty and moved on to the next interesting thing…
I have no idea whether these children will remember that experience in 20 years time, or whether it made any significant impact on their attitude towards life & nature. However, I do hope that if we continue to tune children in to the wonders in Nature, teach them love & respect for life, that they will grow into adults preserving, caring for, conserving and loving Earth.

It is interesting to note that Nature Child has also been defined by Carl Jung as an archetype. An archetype is according to the Oxford Dictionary of Psychology (Colman): “1. A Perfect or typical example of its class, or another name for a prototype. 2. In analytical psychology, an inherited mental structure or pattern, forming part of the collective unconscious, observable only through its manifestations in behavior, especially that associated with ancient and universal experiences such as birth, marriage, motherhood, and death. Carl Gustav Jung (1875 – 1961) introduced the term into his technical vocabulary in 1919 an later defined it as ‘an irrepresentable, unconscious, pre-existent form that seems to be part of the inherited structure of the psyche and can therefore manifest itself spontaneously anywhere, at any time’ (Collected Works, 10, paragraph 847). Also (originally) called a primordial image.” Herewith a more detailed explanation of the archetype by Dr. Caroline Myss (www.myss.com)

Child: Nature This archetype inspires deep, intimate bonding with natural forces, and has a particular affinity for friendships with animals. Although the Nature Child has tender, emotional qualities, it can also have an inner toughness and ability to survive–the resilience of Nature herself. Nature Children can develop advanced skills of communicating with animals, and in stories reflecting this archetype an animal often comes to the rescue of its child companion. Many veterinarians and animal right activists resonate with this archetype because they have felt a conscious rapport with animals since childhood. Other adults describe being in communication with nature spirits and learning to work in harmony with them in maintaining the order of nature.

The child archetype is considered to be a core archetype and central to our survival. I believe our connection to Nature is central to our survival both physiologically and psychologically. It may very well be the key to human consciousness evolution and our planet’s survival. The following is a summary of a research study that indicates the link between children’s emotional affinity for nature and their future conservation behavThe shadow aspect of the Nature Child manifests in a iours: tendency to abuse animals and people and the environment. So let us bring our children to nature and bring nature to our children. A truly authentic relationship is right there waiting for each child. Let’s teach them to become Earthkeepers. This is the hope I have for my child…for all…to be a child of Nature, to connect with the Divine in all living beings…to live with courage, connection, hope, compassion and love. Should I leave this Earth before I see him grow up, I hope that by bringing him closer to Nature and nurturing his relationship to Earth, it has stirred the awareness of his connection to the larger WHOLE. Maybe one day he will help co-create a harmonious relationship with the-other-than-humanworld. With Nature as partner, I trust that his journey will unfold as it should.

The sun rises over Barn Yard Animal Sanctuary Farm, Mrs Jen said the handler actually went to sleep in the a beautiful day with a few cottony clouds on the hori- cargo hold of the plane that was set aside for Animals zon. that are flown around the world. The handler actually slept cradling Shewhobefree during the night to Betsy awoke with a start. She didn’t want to miss a minute of the glorious day ahead. Plus, Betsy wanted comfort them both as the flight was rather bumpy. to know if Shewhobefree had arrived at her forever home. Mrs Piglet quickly woke Jetsy as she also had lots to do. Actually Mrs Piglet was going to have lunch with Mama Maa Goat and Mama Gee
Betsy and Jetsy raced off to collect the ‘gang’ (Hippy, Skippy, Hoppy, Jumpy, Bumpy the Goats and Winky, Binky, Windy, Bunky, Scoot the Goslings). They rushed to the big house hoping Mrs Jen had prepared lovely treats for them to nibble on while she told them the rest of the story of Shewhobefree’s last leg of the journey home.
Once Shewhobefree was taken off the airplane the handler organized a firehose to rinse Shewhobefree and to cool her down as the sun was rather hot. A large truck was waiting for them to climb aboard, a huge trough of food and another of water were inside for Shewhobefree to enjoy as they started off to her forever home. Mrs Jen explained that because Shewhobefree was so heavy the truck couldn’t go very fast as they had to stay at the same speed so as not to frighten her. The truck would be stopping every hour to ensure that Shewhobefree could be hosed down and her section of the truck cleaned so it would be clean so as not to attract flies and other ghastly insects. Some of which could sting and leave one with a burning sensation that itched more than any mosquito bite. Shewhobefree’s journey had to be as pleasant as possible. Her water changed to remain fresh, and her food trough filled to ensure she had a really marvellous time.
Mrs Jen was hanging the washing on the line, waved her free arm at the ‘gang’ and showed them to take a seat around her outdoor stool. The ‘gang’ were fascinated at how easily Mrs Jen hung the big sheets on the washing line. Misty the dog would watch Mrs Jen lift something out of the basket, as soon as Mrs Jen shook the item and hung it over the line, Misty would grab a clothing peg and put it into Mrs Jen’s hand. Then grab the next clothing peg and again, put it into Mrs Jen then asked each of the ‘gang’ if they were Mrs Jen’s hand. The ‘gang’ were mesmerised at how having bad dreams. From this we can learn tolerance to accept those that are different to us. We may not have the same type of hair, colour skin, eye colour or limbs, as geese have two legs with webbed feet. Goats have fur not feathers like the geese, mouths with teeth like the dogs. Or be almost hairless like the Piglets though thick spiky hairs instead of actual fur. If we can look beyond the differences and accept those differences – just think the whole world could live like the Barn Betsy could see Mrs Jen was anxious to go inside and Yard Farm Sanctuary in peace and harmony. That is prepare for the new arrivals so they said good bye to what nature teaches us and we should learn from the animals that differences can and should be celebrated and accepted.
