And of course—should you have booked or are in the process of booking—remember you are in for a draw where you could be the lucky winner who stays for free. Take a chance on yourself and book and perhaps you will be the lucky winner! To book click here: http://aneisdevida.co.za/retreats/ This month’s issue is no different from all the issues to date—interesting and inspiring. First is the article and interview with a local South African psychic Angelique—and no I am not spilling the beans here so go and read all about her on page 11 of this issue. Another interesting interview that took place was with Stevan Zivkov Andricin, an author and producer. Might I be so forward to say not your typical run of the mill author—perhaps it’s the producer part that makes him interesting , I am not sure but it was very interesting nonetheless and his interview is different, his book too is different. Now hopefully that little bit of information has wet your appetite enough to go and read and click on the links. It was about time that Aneis de Vida went and did a review on Tranquility Health— you will find the review on page 9. Definitely recommendable if you are in the Durban area. I would like to also take this opportunity to welcome Kerry Radloff to the Aneis de Vida team. She will be heading up all the advertising from here on out. Should you have any questions or would like to advertise with Aneis de Vida, Kerry will gladly assist you on that front. Speaking of advertising, I made mention last month to being able to book your flight destinations anywhere in the world via the Aneis de Vida Website—well it is up and you can book via ADV flying proudly SAA (South African Airways) right from the website. Look for the logo BOOK NOW and click on there, that will take you straight through to the SAA booking site. You can fly from anywhere to anywhere in the world with SAA . This is a collaboration between SAA and ADV, and ADV proudly presents the brand on the ADV website and within the pages of the magazine. With that I end this note, hope you have great fun reading all the interesting and inspiring articles. Till next month, take care.

Love, light and blessings Tilanie

Interview with Psychic Angelique

It is also incredibly sad to think that even in today’s day and age people proclaim this gift from God himself to be evil. Evil in my opinion is not allowing others to be who they are. Evil is turning a blind eye to the torture and abuse to human, animal and planet. Evil is not caring enough to lend a helping hand. We all have choices in life, but to proclaim a gift from the Creator himself as evil is evil itself. Read my interview with Angelique.

Silvaleaf By Tilanie Meierhans Aneis de Vida

We are all psychic, each and everyone of us. We just don’t practice our gifts. And there are many, who have brought true psychics into disrepute, and it is therefore wonderful to be able to have done this interview with a person who truly is psychic and who knows her oats so to speak. And yes, I have put her to the test for those who are reading and thinking—’’oh just another one’’.

July 2015

A)

Who is Angelique? A servant and messenger of God, first, foremost and eternally so. I’m a fifth 5th generation psychic medium clairvoyant, born by choice, a pre-arranged destiny and with God’s blessings, into a humble Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South African family on 9 October 1968. My first memories are of a sub conscious connection, two days prior to being born on earth this life time. My first human conscious connection with paranormal divinity occurred when I was three years of age. I physically in an awakened state saw, met and connected with my soul spirit guide. I was also intrigued by my great, great grandmother, who often also gently guided me along the beginning of this life time’s journey. She passed either just prior to my birth or shortly thereafter. I am unsure of this time period because I always connected with her 100% clearly, being so young at the time I was just not aware that the other humans could not see her. She was so uniquely beautiful and strong. I called her; great, great granny Fortune. At the fearless age of four I haphazardly did my first psychic reading, for which I was rewarded with six fresh eggs for relaying messages from Spirit to an old Indian gentleman, who asked me if I was like my granny and what would I be kind enough to tell him, he went on to become a regular visitor for my childhood psychic readings. I thankfully called him ‘fridge in chicken’, since his remuneration always meant a meal of fresh poultry of sorts for our family. At this stage the greatest living influence in my life was my great grandmother Gindi and grandmother Teddy, to whom I owe a lifetimes worth of gratitude for raising me to be the lady I am today. There were no so called ‘psychic lessons’, since what I am is, not trainable, nor achievable by the wave of a magic wand. What I am, simply is and I know, I am not alone.

B)

You have had to endure many physical problems – like cancer – tell us a little bit that and how it made you feel? Ahhhh cancer, yes, if I have to be honest, cancer helped me to live, the overall experiences of cancer in my life assisted in highlighting my responsibilities and helped me to prioritize. At some point I’ll write down the entire detailed experience of it all, but not today. If anything cancer also helped slow me down, from birth I’ve being an independent strong soul, cancer exposed my vulnerable side and humbled my fiery spirit that I could accept help from others. At the age of 21, my second encounter with cancer, I had a complete hysterectomy, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix the whole trip. It also happened shortly after our son died, which made it clear to me that I would have no more children on earth during this life time. I recall looking down on my very thin pathetic weak physical body laying in an ICU unit at Westville Hospital in the early hours of the morning, a nursing sister standing next to me gently smiling down on me and she said to me, knowing there was very little if any opportunity of me being able to answer her, she encouragingly whispered to me, “I wonder, will I see you this evening when I return on duty?” She looked up at the white hospital sealing and asked God to have mercy on my soul. Little did she know I was watching her from the other side and at that specific moment I loved it in heaven, I felt too relaxed to want to come back to and I begged for permission to stay and my spirit guide, reminded me of a thing called ‘destiny’, and guided my soul back to earth with the support of an angel. I woke after intense surgery, looked at our little girl next to my bedside & realized how much in that moment that I desired life, that I may take responsibility for all my actions, my beautiful daughter, gifted to us from God. Cancer helped me learn of the physical manifestations we create without realizing it, that affect us in either a positive or a negative way. Cancer taught me a lot about CHOICE and I’m grateful for the various experiences of it in this life time. Never mind MS that hit me years later in my life, left temporarily partially incapacitated from the waist down, a story for next time.

C)

Did you think you would not survive? No I didn’t, on a level of consciousness I knew my service to God was incomplete and that I was destined to return to this place, we call earth. After all, it’s a beautiful planet and life quite simply, is what we make of it.

D)

Do you feel that we can actually heal ourselves from all our ailments if we had more faith? It’s not about ‘more faith’! Healing the physical vessel in my opinion is a formula that goes like this:RESULT = self + medical + holistic + spiritual / religious assistance, certainly combined with ‘destiny’, ‘fate’, ‘choice’, ‘free will’, ‘faith’ & ‘love’!

E)

You are a psychic, where did your journey begin? I’m a practising psychic, my journey began ages ago, literally ages ago. In this life time, it began in heaven and I’m consciously aware of stuff from 2 days prior to my birth, but this I’ll share too with you another time. The point I want to make is that ‘Everyone Is Born Psychic’, we all just have various routes, plans, journeys, the only thing we have in common is our available destination, again an individual choice.

F)

How do you get the information that you pass onto people? I see and am able to communicate with spirit, angels, guides, saints and have on occasion; even some of our various religions deities, I have from the age of 3 years old. I cannot help it, they’ve always been an incredible blessing to me. Another way of understanding how I get information I share, try see me as a translator of someone you cannot see.

G)

There are many ‘’false’’ proclaiming psychics out there – what is your advice to anyone in the world wanting to go and see a psychic medium but is scared that it will be a waste of time? i)

H)

Psychic consultation should be an individual conscious intention, decision and

action.

ii)

Trust your instinct, don’t do anything your personal gut sound logic sub-consciously cautions you against.

iii)

Please remember ‘Psychics’ are like anything, anyone or any profession in this world. You get your good, bad and ugly in everything, from parents, to cops, to doctors, to nurses, to teachers, to estate agents, to financial people, to politicians, to religious leaders, so on and so on.

iv)

Shop around, base your decision not on price, nor time, but on good, sound reputable reputation.

We are all psychic in one way or another, but we have forgotten how to use our abilities – what is your advice to people out there to open themselves up to receiving information or help on their life journey? Shew (gosh) I thought this would be easy to answer! Here’s my advice, “QUESTION EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME, YOURSELF ESPECIALLY”.

I)

Today you have a platform on a radio show here in Durban South Africa which is fantastic. Unfortunately you have also been proclaimed to being evil – which is sadly not the case but people can be rather sheep like (I ask the sheep forgiveness as they are not stupid) but how did that impact on you? ‘’Laughingly Angelique says’’, actually it impacted positively on me, they did me a favour. In a ½ hour slot, I’d get possibly all of 4-5 minutes actual air time. I’d already been praying a while, for more actual air talk time and guess what, because of the ignorance, anger, greed, fear or un-God like behaviour of people, both parties prayers were answered, (how diplomatic is the kingdom of heaven)?. I was taken off lunch time radio which is what a minority few requested and have been allowed up to 60 minutes actual talk air time in an alternative time slot. Of course I miss the lunch time slot and I’ve had many people express their sadness about it. Of course as far as being evil is concerned, I have to ask, seriously??? Wake up it’s the 21st century, I’m one of the first psychics I’m humbly and possibly unaware of, that is willing to open my mouth and exercise the courage to proclaim light in the name of God, with an objective to bring light where there is darkness, understanding where there is ignorance, comfort where there is loss, love where there is hate, etc…Furthermore, let it be said, God’s love is UNCONDITIONAL and has no wrath nor preference. Oooops I did it again, a tad out spoken, huh…;

J)

In my opinion, we are given a choice about whether we will do good in this life or evil – do you think the world and humans at large are choosing to be more evil or do you think the light workers of the world are actually lighting the road for the future. We are given more than choice, upon the creation of our soul, we’re blessed with 2 gifts, eternal life and free will. I’m embarrassed almost to the degree of shame, to be referred to as spiritual or light worker. Look around you at the greed, ego and competitiveness in our circles alone, in our crystal shops, markets, public media, etc… I’m so grateful that I’m only me, can you even begin to imagine God’s grace.

In Angelique’s conclusion, her words to you the reader is: I’d like to encourage you to grow, to live, to reach up and out of your attained paradigms, to strive to be all that you can be in a positive, loving, respectful manner, for the greater good of a picture, bigger, better, more meaningful and perfectly Godly that we all discover as we journey on, one day, one breath, one heart beat at a time.

Angelique’s Motto: "May you always have the gracious understanding and acceptance of God's unconditional Love for you".

ZIMBABWE – Part 5 A WORLD OF WONDERS. by Bronwyn Grey The Eastern Highlands and the lowveld of south eastern Zimbabwe Eastern Zimbabwe is a land of mountains, waterfalls, national parks and secluded getaways. The Eastern Highlands stretches along 300km along the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, offering a refreshing strip where cool breezes caress the mountains and leave travellers wondering if this is really a part of the Africa they had read about and imagined from the comfort of their homes abroad. The Nyanga National Park features Zimbabwe’s highest peak and Africa’s second highest waterfall, while the breath taking Chimanimani National Park is a hiker’s paradise. The hot, dry lowveld of south-eastern Zimbabwe is raw Africa, red earth and silhouetted baobabs against a fiery sunset sky. Granite domes dwarf the delicate msasa trees and private ranches and game conservancies sprawl over the plains protecting large mammal species.. This region is home to game farms and sugar-cane plantations, several National Parks and one of the country's best-known World Heritage sites.

The Eastern Highlands The Eastern Highlands are the combined name for three ranges of hills and mountains – the rolling countryside and tea plantations of the Nyanga range; the granite peaks of the Chimanimani Mountains; and the green grasslands and coffee plantations of the Bvumba range. These areas are relatively sparsely populated, making it a peaceful place to visit. It enjoys a temperately cool, misty climate providing relief from the higher temperatures of the lower regions. Concealed within the rolling landscape are quaint places to stay, picturesque scenic drives, fantastic walking trails with incredible changing vistas. 268 km from Harare, The northern Eastern Highlands hills are covered in rolling grasslands which so reminded the first European settlers of the heaths of Scotland, that they created lakes, planted forests of fir trees, and introduced trout to the streams. Once the private estate of Cecil John Rhodes, The Nyanga National Park, is situated in one of the most scenic areas and is home to Mount Nyangani, the highest mountain in Zimbabwe (2595m). It is a great area for walking, with plenty of mountain trails, varying from gentle strolls to challenging hiking routes. Some lead to deep gorges and tumbling waterfalls (including Mtarazi Falls, which at 725m is one of Africa's highest), others lead up mountains to spectacular vistas, serene lakes for picnics and boat hire. With its stunning mountainous views, numerous waterfalls, unique flora and fauna - a variety of animals including waterbuck, wildebeest, kudu, zebra, impala, sables, eland to mention but a few, Nyanga National Park can provide the visitor with an unforgettable experience.

The sparkling fresh water rivers are ideal for Nyanga trout and provide all year round the finest fly fishing in Zimbabwe. Cool temperatures are usual in The Eastern Highlands with summer temperature around 26 degrees celcius and winter cold temperatures from -3 degrees celcius .These are complimented by a wet summer. South of Nyanga National Park, nestled in the Imbeza valley are the botanical gardens of La Rochelle, our first stay over on this soul journey, en route to Mutare, the region's centre, nearby the spectacular Christmas Pass. Further south are the luxuriant cloud-forests of the Bvumba Mountains, with views into Mozambique. Here the Bvumba Botanical Gardens are a very special attraction, commanding sublime views over rolling mists (Bvumba means mist in the Manyika language), and the start for gentle walks into the surrounding valleys. The Bvumba area is also known for its boutique soft cheeses and fine coffee. LA ROCHELLE La Rochelle is the magical coalescence of fairy tale castle and French chateau, surrounded by manicured gardens on the edge of lush forest-cloaked mountains. This luxury country house is an oasis of tranquillity and charm, merely 3 hour’s drive from Harare. It has a refreshingly intimate, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere juxtaposed to Nature, History, Culture and the Arts of the area, creating an ambient holistic wellbeing. The hotel has a most romantic history… bought and built in the early 1950’s by an aging wealthy couple, the Courtaulds, from Europe who employed John Mitchell of Kew Gardens as landscaper to design gardens with the paths, ponds and classical pillars and established a most unique botanical garden with trees and plants being imported from all over the world. The greatest private orchid collection in Africa was started. The orchid house is one of the finest in Africa and there’s a garden nursery filled with exciting plants. Wild bush areas were carefully preserved and a dam filled with water plants and populated by flocks of waterfowl. The team at La Rochelle are currently working with German herb importers to produce a wide range of organic herbs at La Rochelle and throughout the Imbeza valley. Accommodation is provided in seven beautifully appointed and individually designed rooms and suites in the historic Courtauld House (Courtauld Rooms), one free standing West Wing comprising of 5 rooms and a truly magnificent honeymoon suite (The Fantasy) - the epitome of romance, situated a small distance from the Country House overlooking the dam. There are also a couple of more secluded cottages available. All rooms reflect the elegance of the Art Deco and 1920's era. Interiors have been carefully chosen to suit the style and are Aneis de Vida

Heading south through the scenically diverse Chimanimani Mountains, a destination for dedicated hikers. The granite spikes can be climbed and the fresh streams and pools are ideal for cooling off after a hard day's exploring the rivers and valleys. The area is also home to an abundance of flora; yellowwood and cedar trees, proteas and wild orchids, massed purple lassandria, bushes of wild sweet peas, clear mountain pools and several waterfalls There are a total of 186 species of birds in the Chimanimani Mountains, including Laughing doves, larks, eagles, swallows and swifts. The Bridal Veil Falls are a popular hiking spot, as is the nearby Chirundu forest, Africa’s southern-most tropical rainforest. Chirundu is home to many rare tree species, including cycads and strelitzias. There is also the aptly named “Big Tree”, a red mahogany that is more than a thousand years old, seventy metres high and sixteen metres in circumference. From Chimanimani we travel south down the escarpment to the lowveld, running virtually parallel to the Save (Sa-ve) River, also called the Sabi River. It is one of Aneis de Vida

southern Africa’s longest perennial rivers; the 400-mile-long river flows through fertile country until it reaches the Zimbabwean lowveld, where it enters a complex irrigation system about 370,000 acres (150,000 hectares), originally for sugar cultivation, later also for wheat, rice, cotton, and citrus fruit. The Sabi is crossed by the 1,080-foot (329-metre) single-span Birchenough Bridge, The third longest single-arch span in the world! The river is navigable by light craft for 100 miles (160 km) upstream from its mouth. Historically it was a transport route for gold and trade goods between the coast and the hinterland occupied by the civilisation of Great Zimbabwe in the 13th and 14th centuries AD.

July 2015

Our destination for the 2nd part of this soul journey lies within the lowveld area of Chiredzi where the Save Conservancy borders the Gonarezhou national park. The Conservancy was born from the Devuli cattle ranch established in 1919 where once cattle fences were erected and water resources re-routed blocked wild animals from their traditional watering holes . The indigenous grazing animals were forced to compete with cattle herds, predators stalked the cattle and were shot, and native animals that carried diseases harmful to the cattle were destroyed. Over time, a combination of events brought the cattle industry to a standstill. Fortunately a new black rhino conservation strategy from Zimbabwe’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management catalysed the formation of Savé Valley Conservancy. With growing awareness of endangered wildlife and interest in ecotourism, a Conservancy offered the ideal solution. In the early 1990’s ranchers agreed to revert to ranching wildlife and through concordance the landholders moved to sustainable natural resource management. Cattle and internal fences were removed, and in conjunction with the Department and the The World Wide Fund for Nature, they began monitoring and managing the restoration of the habitat. In 1995 a 330km electric perimeter fence was built as a protective enclosure to protect the 3400 square kilometers/340 000 hectares of the conservancy. The main goal of Savé Valley Conservancy was to restore the land’s full natural potential while protecting the black rhinos from extinction. Today after nearly two decades of work and success they continue to focus on preserving the land as a balanced ecosystem. Our last destination for our soul journey is Chilo Gorge situated within the Savé Conservancy overlooking the Savé River.

A private balcony and seating area commands fabulous views over the river, offering a serene space to meditate or relax and just breath in the sights and smells. Other amenities include a mini bar, tea and coffee facilities, and a safe. There is a family option of two luxury rooms with an extended interconnecting balcony, which provides easy private access between the rooms for all the family. Gonarezhou is one of Africa’s last remaining pristine wildernesses. It borders Mozambique's wildlife reserves and South Africa's Kruger National Park in the south-east corner of the country. The animals are in their most natural state at Gonarezhou unfamiliar with vehicles and tourists. The landscape is of red sandstone, thorny scrub and baobabs. Buffalo gather at watering holes, big cats prowl silently in pursuit of painted impala, and hippo wallow midstream attended by squadrons of fluttering birds. The presence of elephants is everywhere; as the breeding herds travel along routes passed from one matriarch to another in search of food, safety, and water. A panorama of birdlife gathers at Tembahata and Machanu Water Pans, a flying, wading tumult of colour, while the wonders of Chilojo Cliffs and Chivilila Falls reveal the glories of the unique landscape. Activities will take the form of early morning meditation and yoga sessions either on the deck at the lodge overlooking the river or somewhere unique with in the reserve. Thereafter you have the choice of exhilarating game drives through the park, excursions to the epic Chilojo Cliffs, or a day spent birdwatching. The three major rivers, the Chilojo cliffs and the vast water pans in the park support a rich variety of birdlife, including kingfishers, hornbills, eagles, and raptors. Over 400 bird species have been recorded here, making Gonarezhou one of Southern Africa's top birding destinations. For those with an disposition for something a bit more active, the 3km walking trail from the lodge to the beautiful Chivilia Falls is a great way to start or end your day. Ending off at the viewpoint overlooking the falls with some well-deserved refreshments, or, explore the site of the former Mahenye Lodge on the island ,and then slowly make your way to the beach, where deck chairs and refreshing drinks await.

Interview with Author and Producer

Stevan Zivkov Andricin By Tilanie Meierhans

Interesting man with forthright answers. Also enlightening with regards to some historical facts if you are unaware of them yourself.

Aneis de Vida

28

July 2015

a)

Where did your journey with animals begin to produce something that is completely out of the ordinary of what one sees?

During my research on the feature doc movie 'Animals: A Parallel History’ I became aware about strange phenomenon which I have called ‘Revenge of Animals’. I have a huge archived historical video material for my doc movie, and I use it for my Graphic Novel promo. Graphic Novel is something extraordinary and the story is very interesting for the AR movement activists. ‘Revenge of Animals’ is the first graphic novel with a vegan detective and first with an Animal Theology topic.

b)

There are some rather graphic pictures within your video, is this a shock tactic or to show the true brutality or both?

Shock tactic. And it's not very brutal. It's video material from the old US government educational movie. Children watched this in classrooms a decade ago. The movie shows the ordinary working day in the meat industry.

Aneis de Vida

29

July 2015

c)

What did you have to do to get all the information which has been relevant in making this video?

I'm an established doc movie director and producer and I work on my feature doc movie 'Animals: A Parallel History’ the last 3 year, so I have experience and knowledge to make nice and also shocking things. The video is not important, the graphic novel is. The Video is just an advert to explain the Graphic Novel’s story to contributors. I'm happy if people like my video, but I'm sure they will like the Graphic Novel much more.

d) Do you feel that humanity is ready to relinquish its inhumaneness towards animals? I think a very small percentage of humanity will really change their behaviour towards animals. It is essential that the Animal rights movement joins in solving major problems together, achieves some unity through new ideas and approaches. Killing and torturing animals, as well as the destruction of the planet is growing daily and it is obvious that the old methods do not provide sufficient results. That's why I'm making the doc movie 'Animals: A Parallel History’. The revolutionary idea behind the entire project is to introduce Animals in Modern History and Society Education into the schools for the first time. This knowledge will encourage empathy and responsibility in the future generations. The Project is supported by Tom Regan's Culture & Animals Foundation. Teaching of world history without animals is the false principle of our education. I must admit that I’m disappointed with the lack of support from the animal rights organizations and foundations for this milestone project.

e)

From your perspective, how much of a role has indoctrination from religious institutions played in humanity becoming so uncaring?

The heart of the anthropocentrism is the so called Christian church and counterfeit Bible. From the Bible have been removed precious information about veganism, Jesus’ love for animals, reincarnation etc. That has resulted over the centuries of our generally accepted brutal reality. Truly, have you ever heard that some Christian church is doing something against the destruction of our planet and the brutal killings of billions of animals? There is a huge list of sins of the church against the animals, like vivisection for example. In second century Rome, the Roman Catholic Church issued a decree prohibiting human autopsy. As a result of this prohibition, Galen, who was a physician to the gladiators and to the household of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, abandoned his own investigations of the human model in favour of cutting into goats, pigs and monkeys brought from the Barbary Coast. Today, Galen, who became one of the most famous and influential physicians in the history of medicine, is considered the “father” of vivisection.

WALKING WITH THE TIDES

‘’Experience is the direct apprehension of being” ~William James~

The magnificence of a walk to Gericke’s Point is hard to capture in words, for the essence of the experience, is in the felt experience. “Within experiencing lie the mysteries of all that we are. For the sake of our experiential sense of what we observe, we react as we do. From out of it we create what we create. And, because of its puzzles, and for the desperation of some of its puzzles, we overthrow good sense, obviousness, and reality, if need be.” ~ Eugene Gendlin It is a beautifully wild, fairly untouched/unspoilt place near Sedgefield along the Eden/Garden Route coastline. My attraction to this place is not only because its rocky landmark resembles the shape of a Lion’s head, but because it’s true magic emerges at low tide, which is the only time one can access it as it becomes an island during high tide.

It is an approximate 4 km walk along some wild splendour. A slow walk is required to take in all this beauty. That is precisely what I do. Immersed in the moment to moment of experiencing, allowing Nature’s restorative energy to quietly, almost unnoticed, seep into my skin. Slow awareness of the breeze on my exposed skin, wild smells filling my nostrils, soft moist sand hugging my bare feet, breath by breath my lungs fill with sweet tangy air, my ears pleasantly occupied with nature sounds and my eyes feasting on a palette of delectable colours. “Feelings are not isolated impulse but structured evidence of reality, namely of the interaction of the organism/environment field, for which there is no other direct evidence except feeling.” ~ Frederick Perls

As I walk, the high fossilised dunes hug me with a quiet knowing strength on my right, whilst the ocean to my left invites me to open my flow. My eyes follow the water’s moving edge and I spot a huge luminescent jellyfish that has washed out on to the sand. I suspect it was brought in by the high tide and as the ocean receded, it must have remained either stranded on the beach or caught in the shallow pools unable to return to the ocean depths. Or perhaps it has just come to the end of its lifecycle and it has offered its life-less form as a meal for its kin in the ecosystem. Too heavy to lift, I am reminded of my place in the ecosystem and to not interfere with Nature’s unfolding story. Loving her as is, is my promise to co-exist with her in harmony. “As human beings, our primarily dwelling is “outside’ in the space of action constituted by relation to things, plants, animals, other human beings, ourselves, to heaven or earth in their totality.” ~ Medard Boss

As the walk progresses, peace settles in my being. I am attuned to the life-force that unites us. To this wild place I am a human visitor. No matter how much I try to not disturb the rhythm inherent to this place, I inevitably do as the human animal, only too aware of the markings left by my fellow humans and my own footprints in the sand. Hopefully with high tide any trace of my presence will be washed away and so it should be. I have come to enjoy this beauty, not to alter it so it can fit with me.

I simply walk where the tide permits, my soul drinking in this wonderland that reveals an abundance of wild surprises when the ocean goddess lifts her watery veil. This is the haven for two colonies of Cape and White Breasted Commorants. They watch me, from the top of the lion’s head. Here seagulls, herons & oystercatchers join them in the bountiful harvest low tide brings. Water in the rock pools are warmed by the midday sun. The spectacular granular starfish a precious sighting in the clear rock pools has me awestruck…perhaps the most photographed starfish of Gericke’s Point. Brown and Black Mussels, Soutbossie, Cape Rock Crab, Shell Gardens, Anemone, Sea Urchins and silver smelt are plentiful here. It has even been reported that Cape Fur Seal bathe in these lovely pools. Bottlenose Dolphins and Southern Right Whales frequent this place where they can frolic and BE undisturbed. “The body is the site of intersection of inside and outside, self and world; it belongs to both realms and mediates their relations.” ~ Andy Fisher in Radical Ecopsychology. Psychology in Service of Life

One can only enter this magical place with reverie and humility that is if one longs to be moved by her energy and walk with her in harmony. “The ancient rhythms of the earth have insinuated themselves into the rhythms of the human heart. The earth is not outside us; it is whithin: the clay from where the tree of the body grows.” ~ John O’Donohue

Walking with the tides is not only a form of spiritual practice for me, a metaphor for the journey with my soul, but also a journey of re-membering the Earth’s Soul. In the walking there is no separation. “Ecology and spirituality are fundamentally connected, because deep ecological awareness, ultimately, is spiritual awareness.” ~ Fritjov Capra I remain for the longest time possible as the tide will soon come in. Time is borrowed and I am a visitor walking with the tides. “It is a strange and wonderful fact to be here, walking around in a body, to have a whole world within you and a world at your fingertips outside you. It is an immense privilege, and it is incredible that humans manage to forget the miracle of being here. Rilke said, ‘Being here is so much,’ and it is uncanny how social reality can deaden and numb us so that the mystical wonder of our lives goes totally unnoticed. We are here. We are wildly and dangerously free.” ~ John O’Donohue

The glowing ruby shall adorn, Those who in July are born; Then they'll be exempt and free From love's doubts and anxiety. ~Unknown~

Rubies, the birthstone of July, are considered the king of gems and represent love, health and wisdom. There is the belief that those who wear a ruby are bestowed with good fortune. The Ruby is a stone of nobility, and considered the most magnificent. In ancient times it was believed that the ruby surpassed all other gems. It is said that the Chinese Emperor Kublai Khan offered a city in exchange for a large sized ruby. Throughout time, the ruby has been revered for its passion, protection and prosperity, and in many cultures it is believed to banish diseases, keep the wearer safe from harm, and keep away sadness and to bring peace, and help in arguments and keep at bay nightmares. To this day, the properties of the ruby are astounding. It gives off an amazing red ray which actively stimulates the base chakra thereby increasing the life force energy throughout the body and into the very spirit or soul energy.

The ruby is known to assist in the increase of clear mind and thinking, increases self-confidence and assists in emotions of self-worth. It is known to stimulate the heart and therefore encourages the wearer to enjoy life more. It increases the sexual energies and sensual pleasure of life, it is also associated with love, passion and commitment. Rubies can also be used to banish fears, allowing the wearer the courage to forge ahead and not hold back. Healing Properties of Rubies As it is a blood stone, it is used in strengthening the heart, and stimulating circulation, and in treating any ailment related to the heart.

It is used to regulate menstrual flow and enabling relief of pain and discomfort during menstruation. Rubies assist in reproductive organs and are therefore also made use of when treating sexual disorders, impotence/ infertility, early menopause and especially helpful for older women during their pregnancy. Rubies are considered helpful in the treatment of fevers and infections. As it is a blood stone it is a detoxifying stone used for all blood related ailments and also stimulates kidneys and spleen and has been known to assist in the regulation of weight.

A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROM MONTANA COUNSELED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER THAT IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HER OATMEAL EVERY MORNING. THE GRANDDAUGHTER DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY UNTIL THE AGE OF 103, WHEN SHE DIED. SHE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREATGRANDCHILDREN, AND A 40-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE. A DRUNKEN, TOTALLY NAKED, WOMAN JUMPED INTO A TAXI AT PARK BEACH PLAZA IN COFFS HARBOUR, AUSTRALIA. THE INDIAN DRIVER SHOOK HIS HEAD, OPENED HIS EYES WIDE AND STARED AT THE WOMAN. HE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO START THE CAB. "WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT, LUV, HAVEN'T YOU EVER SEEN A WOMAN WITH NO CLOTHES ON BEFORE?" "I'LL NOT BE STARING AT YOU LADY, I AM TELLING YOU, THAT WOULD NOT BE PROPER, WHERE I AM COMING FROM..." "WELL, IF YOU'RE NOT BLOODY STARING AT ME LUVIE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING THEN?" "WELL, I AM LOOKING AND LOOKING AND LOOKING AND LOOKIIIIIING, AND I AM THINKING AND THINKING AND THINKING AND THINKING TO MYSELF, WHERE IS THIS LADY KEEPING THE MONEY TO BE PAYING ME?!"

WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP, AN ELDERLY COUPLE, STOPPED AT A PIZZA HUT FOR LUNCH. AFTER FINISHING THEIR MEAL, THEY LEFT THE RESTAURANT, AND RESUMED THEIR TRIP TO PHOENIX. WHEN LEAVING, THE ELDERLY WOMAN UNKNOWINGLY LEFT HER GLASSES ON THE TABLE, AND SHE DIDN'T MISS THEM UNTIL THEY HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT FORTY MINUTES. BY THEN, TO ADD TO THE AGGRAVATION, THEY HAD TO TRAVEL QUITE A DISTANCE BEFORE THEY COULD FIND A PLACE TO TURN AROUND, IN ORDER TO RETURN TO THE RESTAURANT TO RETRIEVE HER GLASSES. ALL THE WAY BACK, THE ELDERLY HUSBAND BECAME THE CLASSIC GROUCHY OLD MAN. HE FUSSED AND COMPLAINED,AND SCOLDED HIS WIFE RELENTLESSLY DURING THE ENTIRE RETURN DRIVE. THE MORE HE CHIDED HER, THE MORE AGITATED HE BECAME. HE JUST WOULDN'T LET UP FOR A SINGLE MINUTE. TO HER RELIEF, THEY FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE RESTAURANT. AS THE WOMAN GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND HURRIED INSIDE TO RETRIEVE HER GLASSES, THE OLD GEEZER YELLED TO HER "WHILE YOU'RE IN THERE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET MY HAT AND THE CREDIT CARD." Aneis de Vida

The Healing Power of Needles, Bruises and Foot Pads By Shari Rood It started with an advertisement, one of those cheesy mailers that say, current resident. It was from Bed Bath and Beyond and was a promo for kinoki Foot Pads. They claim to remove toxins while you sleep, (and also, money from your wallet). A friend suggested that I give them a try so I put it in the back of my mind and there it rattled around with a lot of other things such as grocery lists, TV shows to set up on my dvr, and chores that needed doing. When I checked the mail and saw the ad for the foot pads, I thought I would go up there and take a look at them. As I started driving, my mind began to wander. I remembered I had not used my Weight Watchers pass all month and it was going to expire. I started to feel bad that I had wasted forty dollars so instead of turning in to Bed Bath and Beyond as planned, I merged right and headed toward the local Weight Watchers office. How I ended up with large tennis ball sized bruises all over my back is really what this story is all about. As I pulled into the shopping center, I saw a large red sign that said, CHINA MED. One of the marbles rattling around in my brain rolled forward and I realized this was the place another friend had recommended to me. In fact, just that morning someone had advised me to consider getting some acupuncture treatments. Hatred of needles aside, I thought; here I am, and there they are, so why not go in and ask a few questions? I parked and walked into the sparse clean office, noting the modern Zen like décor. The receptionist smiled and I told her that I wanted to find out a little information about what it is they do. She said that I would be able to get a free consultation. In fact, it just so happened, the practitioner had a session available, because another client had cancelled. Before I knew what was happening, I was filling out forms and suddenly, I was sitting face to forehead with a very small Asian woman wearing a white lab coat. She looked up at me and asked me to describe my symptoms. What followed was a complete report on my physical well being, or lack thereof. When I was finished, she asked me to place my hands face up on a little pillow on the desk between us. She felt my pulse and asked me to stick out my tongue. She said she could help me but it might take a lot of sessions. I explained that financially it might be a stretch; I would have to do them when I could. She said that back in China, she would have suggested that I come in three times a week. I wanted to tell her that back in China, it probably didn't cost ninety dollars a session. She told me she could give me a treatment right at that moment if I would like since her other client had cancelled. At this point I wasn't even sure how I ended up there so I said, “sure, why not.” She led me to a bright sunlit room. Soft music was playing and I'm sure I heard the sounds of temple bells. There was a massage table covered in white sheets and everything looked pristine. “Take off your shoes and shirt she said.” I obliged and lay face down on the table. I started down at the floor through a slit in the paper and suddenly thought of a question that I probably should have asked about a half hour before. “Are your needles sterilized?” “Of course,” she said. “Disposable needles.” As I lay there waiting for her to break out the needles, I wondered about a tray of little round glass cups sitting neatly on a wooden tray I had seen as I entered the room. She had mentioned something about doing some cupping, but I confess, I hadn't been paying much attention. I heard the sound of paper being torn and felt the cool rush of rubbing alcohol being swabbed on my anAneis de Vida

kle. The next thing I felt was a slight prick and a warm sensation followed by tapping and a bit of pressure. “Okay?” she said. “Fine,” I lied. She placed them all over my back, legs and even the base of my skull. I have to admit it wasn’t as bad as I expected but then again, an hour ago, I hadn’t expected to be lying on a table, riddled with holes. Using the very Zen practice of acceptance, I lay there in the sun lit room trying desperately to relax as more of the needles were inserted all over my body. She said they needed to be left in place for twenty minutes so she put a little buzzer in my hand and told me to press it if I felt uncomfortable. In my mind I was pressing the button in Morse code. H-E-L-P. Rog didn’t even know I was here. If they kidnapped me for experimentation, I’d never be found. I resisted the strong call of the buzzer and I lay there listening to the temple bells and the sounds of a distant waterfall and tried to recall how I wound up with needles in my back, instead of shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond. I was in the beyond all right. After the allotted time she returned and started removing them one by one. “That wasn't so bad,” I said under my breath. When she was done she said, “I'm just going to do the cupping now.” I was feeling a little dizzy from the fact that I had been lying face down for almost half an hour. The next moment, I was sure I was being attacked by a giant octopus. It felt as though someone was sucking my skin into the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. I heard the little glass cups and I felt them all as they suddenly became attached to my back. I was quite alarmed at this point but was too shocked to say anything. In about a minute, there were about a dozen of these things clamped onto my back like leeches, it felt like my back was being pulled right off my body. A few seconds later I heard popping as each glass globe was being released from my back. “All done,” she said and left me to get dressed and wonder what in the world had just happened to me. The words Kinoki Foot Pads came to mind. Yes, that's what started all this. Damn foot pads. After I dressed myself and gathered my belongings, I slunk off to the bathroom to have a good look at my back. As I suspected, it was covered with red welts. I looked as though I had been pelted with tennis balls. They were raised and bruising right before my very eyes. As I walked back toward the reception area I saw my miniature doctor sitting at her desk writing some notes. I waved and inexplicably said, “thank you.” When I paid my bill, I told the receptionist I wanted to think about it before I booked any more sessions. She said I would probably feel tired for a couple of days but that after that I should start to feel better. I was a little woozy but I did have the presence of mind to ask if she could give me some literature on that cupping procedure. In the car I looked at the sheet in my hands. It described cupping as having been around for over six thousand years. It is known to heal many diseases and improve overall health. It said that the red welts were not really bruises, just toxins coming to surface. I started to think I should have just thrown myself down a flight of stairs and saved ninety dollars. That evening, I sheepishly told my Husband the whole story and since he has learned to expect anything and everything to happen to me, he was mildly amused. I said, “Look at my back, the bruises are turning purple now.” He looked and tried not to laugh. “I think you are going to be okay,” he said. I googled the word Cupping, skipping the sites that clearly had a different definition of the word and sure enough, there were a slew of videos on You Tube showing the procedure. I clicked one and watched while a German sounding man in a white coat took a glass ball remarkably like the ones I had just encountered, and lit a small torch and placed it into the globe. He explained that this was to create the vacuum. He then attached it to his patients back and I saw it clamp down with a vice like grip. He explained how the toxins were going to rise to the surface, and that you could do this every day as long as needed. This morning I looked in the mirror and the bruises are starting to turn a greenish purple color, but at least they are fading. I can see that I am going to be alright but I don't think I'm going to be going back for any more cupping. I couldn't help but wonder how a simple trip to Bed Bath and Beyond had gone so horribly awry. But then again I am the type of person who sees an ad for Kinoki Foot Pads and thinks, I must have this, this will cure everything that is wrong with me. So in case you are wondering if I have learned anything from all this, the answer is; probably not.

Jimmy Henderson is a cognitive specialist, philosopher and metaphysician and the author of a number of books on mind-development.

‘We are destined to wander this world, performing our work of harvesting light from the shadows and finding what fleeting moments of pleasure we may, but driven ever forward by this sense of emptiness, seeking the final spiritual experience which is our ultimate destiny.’ Jimmy Henderson

Scientific evidence reveals that the physical universe operates under laws governing creation, disintegration and renewal. However, it has also been demonstrated that energy is never lost and new systems form from the dust of long-dead stars. If the argument of quantum physics is accepted that the expanding physical universe is merely a mirror for a universal consciousness, it stands to reason that this consciousness is also evolving (expanding) to re-emerge in new forms as well. However, the question still remains as to what we will actually experience after death when our physical bodies reach their end and disintegrate. Research has shown that our normal mental processes are dependent on the brain and nervous system, which will obviously fall away with our passing. However, what is often overlooked is the principle of self-awareness, a level of consciousness in which the mind is able to reflect upon itself and become self-sustaining. From a purely evolutionary point of view, it seems unlikely that such a hard-won faculty which has taken millions of years to evolve would simply disappear into nothingness at the passing of the body. After over 30 years of studying the mind I am personally of the opinion that self-awareness, once attained, like energy, can never be lost and will continue in another form even after the passing of the physical body, bringing with it additional experiences, all directed towards the further expression of the universal collective. So exactly what are we likely to experience? Psychological research suggests that our minds are able to construct our present sense of reality as well as structure the images in our dreams. In this regard, the phenomena of lucid dreams reveal that we are able to maintain a certain level of self-awareness during our dreams and can even be partially conscious when dreaming, under certain conditions, especially with a practiced mind. It is therefore likely that in passing through the veil of death, we will initially enter a dreamlike state until our consciousness is able to re-assert itself and recreate some semblance of reality. This suggests a period of adjustment. However, it is also possible that the preexisting memories, images and patterns of thought that have been imprinted in our consciousness when alive, may re-assert themselves at this time, allowing us some degree of order. In other words, we may find ourselves in somewhat familiar surroundings, which will reduce any possible trauma during the Aneis de Vida

adjustment period. Determining factors will be the quality of our consciousnesses and the contents of our minds at the time of passing. In other words, our beliefs, thoughts, memories and subconscious scripts gathered whilst we were alive, would probably determine what is initially experienced after our passing. In the light of the evolutionary process, it also seems likely that any new awareness will have to be purged of anything that is destructive or presents an obstacle to our further progress (unresolved issues). However, this content may not always be pleasant, especially in the case of a mind filled with hate and violence. We can therefore understand how religious concepts of heaven and hell may have been formed, with each of us having to pass though and confront our memories and mental images of our past actions, which could be quite distressing. To facilitate this adjustment, focussing on a spiritual personality, or an inspiring and uplifting belief or idea (such as heaven) could therefore provide the positive intent to assist one to pass through the metaphorical ‘valley of darkness’ without becoming lost in the experience, thereby allowing one to pass freely into the higher realms of the collective mind. Who’s Afraid of a Little Bacteria Microbe? By Deborah Sutherland The Winter months bring a vast array of vegetables and my inspiration for creative ideas to combat the common winter ailments gets refired. And with that, I get to share my love and passion for fermented foods and beverages with all their benefits. In this article I would like to clear up some myths about Fermentation; exactly how does Fermentation work; Fermentation began thousands of years ago, back to the Paleolithic Age where mead was brewed. Except for Western culture, unless you want to go with alcohol, all cultures have a fermented food or beverage known specifically known to their diet. They recognized the importance of consuming fermented foods/ beverages with their meals for the ways it supported their health and the healing properties they provided. Who’s afraid of a little bacteria? Well, in today’s world, I believe it’s a majority of people. By sanitizing ourselves and our environment, we are destroying all the healthy, helpful microbes that are essential for life. Bill Mollison states in his book, Permaculture Book of Ferment and Human Nutrition, ‘the evolution of humanity is inextricably linked to the evolution of microbacteria, and we would not be able to survive this many millennia without them.’ A symbiotic relationship with Nature is essential to our well- being. Digestive health and where did it go wrong? Modernization has bought some incredible opportunities for humanity advancement and yet with our food chain, we have de-natured our foods to chemicals, preservatives and plastic. There are no ‘living’ enzymes in these foods to support the break down and absorption process so vital in to health and vitality of our body. This time-honored tradition is being forgotten and with it comes the price of poor, digestive health that has complications for all the systems that run our body to keep it in tip-top condition. What is Fermentation? Foods or beverages that have been fermented with bacteria and/ or yeast and/ or brine. This is a perfect way to preserve foods beyond their limited time span. This enabled seasonal foods to be preserved and consumed during the following months. There are no added preservatives or pasteurization to kill of the bacteria and this is what sets it up to be the super foods of our time. How does fermentation work? Fermentation lies in the break down process while fresh fruit and vegetables are being fermented. Over a period of time, the fermentation process releases nutrients, amino acids, vitamins that are all essential to support the health of the body. Bacteria is responsible for this process. Phytoestrogens These are natural plant hormones that are commonly used to treat pre-menopausal symptoms and are a natual replacement for HRT. There are many plants that contain oestrogenic constituents at different doses. The most common compounds possessing oestrogenic activity are based on phenolic chemical structures. Many people turn to natural hormones because they are perceived to be safer, especially with regard to breast cancer. Here are some examples of phytoestrogens.

Soy protein This plant is used for the treatment of hot flushes associated with menopause. It must be kept in mind that soy may reduce the absorption of thyroid drugs.

Hops This plant is used in the alleviation of postmenopusal symptoms. It has also long been used in beer making and as a flavouring agent, although the amount detectable in beer is too low to pose any cause for concern.

Black cohosh This plant has been used for a variety of ailments, including the treatment of hot flushes, intercostal myalgia, sciatica, whooping cough, chorea, tinnitis, dysmennorrhoea and uterine colic. Not to be used during pregnancy.

“Greeting and Salutation my dear children of the Light, it is I Raphael. I come to speaketh to thee this day to remind thee all of thine Guardian Angel. When your spark of light descends to the human plane, our great love for you, we send a keeper, we send with you a messenger. Call it your own private service. Your Guardian is with you always and ever, through all your trials, your success, and your Guardian is always unto you speaking, but you human souls, I’m afraid to say, need to remove the wax from your ears, because for most of your life you are deaf. You are in denial. Your Guardian is our gift to you, your Guardian never ever leaves you for an instance, and if you were to think on these matters, go deep into your self, you would realize the many, many things your Guardian has for you done. You have taken your Guardian for granted, so unto you I Raphael, ask each and every one of you to send your Guardian love. Your Guardian is a messenger and will take your love to the Almighty Beingness, who is pure love, and from the Almighty Beingness will descend upon you his divine love, which is the state that every incarnated soul is striving for. Silence and quieten thine minds and call for thine Guardian Angel to come into thine space and speak unto thine Guardian, ask your Guardian your questionings and open thine mind and listen for his/her answer. This is a connection that will be very precious to thee for the rest of this incarnation and is worth thine effort and energy. Unto thee all precious ones I bring great blessings and love from thee Almighty God, I am thee Archangel Raphael.

My wish is for you to read, absorb what is meant for you and help the circle grow and shine with more light Being Unique It is saddening for all with “sight to see the masses following like sheep, all making sure they conform to their peers and masters in this world, not trying to carve out and explore their own uniqueness We are all unique, YOU are all made and come with a purpose, these purposes can not be met while YOU spend YOUR energy, being like every one else , trying so hard to fit in. Like a jigsaw puzzle, Every piece may look a little alike, some have similar edges, but all are different and a few but not many pieces can fit in the same space that is uniquely for them. As with humans, YOU have to find a way to remember who you are, why you are ere, what your purpose is, you can not keep trying over and over and over to fit into other peoples spaces , trying to conform to a space that is not meant for you. What is the power that holds you all in a mindset of being put in a square box when you are heart shaped, or star shaped. You will never really feel comfortable,as you will have to trim your edges, break pieces off , forget the essence of who you are, YOU can NEVER be whole if you do not understand the simple knowledge that YOU are UNIQUE and YOU came here as YOU to make a difference, not to fit in. I leave you to ponder this With love and light always Atenar Aneis de Vida

There is nothing more debilitating than either a wet of dry cough. During the day it niggles in your throat and at night it keeps you awake. This could be due to colds and flus or pure sinus drip. Whichever, it makes it difficult especially at night when you are longing for a good nights rest after a strenuous day. Honey is an extremely versatile natural remedy for various ailments. Today however, we will take a look at how taking honey can sooth and aid in clearing that nasty rasping cough. Firstly though there are two kinds of cough. A dry rasping cough and a wet cough. The wet cough is the bodies way of getting rid of the toxins and therefore should not be dried up or stopped, soothed yes, just enough to make it easier to get through the night for instance. The dry cough however is one that needs treating. However, in saying this, a dry cough can be attributed to allergies, and resulting in a sinus drip, dry and dusty air or a build up of mucous in the lungs which need to be loosened and the body needs to rid itself of this toxic waste product. Honey is one of the most amazing products because it can work effectively to calm a cough within minutes, coating and soothing those irritated mucous membranes. And thanks to the busy bees, they add an enzyme of anti bacterial properties which can shorten the length of time you walk around with a cough/cold or flue. The easiest and most convenient way in which to take honey is 1 large tablespoon 3x a day. Please do not give children under the age of 2 any honey but those over the age of 2 you can start with a teaspoon full 3x a day. Honey and Lemon is also an excellent remedy窶馬ot only for coughing but soothing an itchy and irritated throat. Take a cup of boiled water, add 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Stir well and drink whilst hot.

I just love it when life brings me to places and experiences that I could never have imagined. I am a lover of wide open spaces, but I am so grateful that I have been brought to this land to experience the magic of the jungle. Where to begin? My heart is so open. After my time with the trees, I sense my eyes and ears open deeply and I feel the love flowing in and out like breath. On the airplane over to Mulu, on my way to visit Gunung Mulu National Park, I sat in meditation for a moment, asking for a blessing for myself and my fellow adventurers. The vision that rose in my mind's eye was of myself walking into the rain forest and instantaneously being surrounded by light beings of peace, a platoon of forest spirits accompanying me on my way. We had accommodation right outside the gate of the park, and after checking in, went outside to talk with our guide, a stocky local man called Larry, with the hugest calves I have ever seen. Well, the magic show started almost immediately and I missed part of the briefing due to the butterflies who showed up to welcome us and dart in and out of the area where we were sitting. I know very little about the biology of butterflies, but I do know a little about the symbolism. One of the most touching accounts of the spontaneous and instinctual use of the butterfly symbol, was one described by Elizabeth Kuebler-Ross. In the writings deAneis de Vida

scribing her travels discovering all she could about the extremes of death and dying, she tells of her experiences visiting the Nazi death camps. There is one incident where she enters a large sleeping hall, the walls covered with drawings and scratchings of butterflies. It was the dormitory where the orphan children slept. The butterfly symbolises the journey of change that we are on in this life. The soul is unfurling as the butterfly, going through its metamorphoses. The soul is beautiful and elusive and sublime, and the butterfly is a fitting symbol. We emerge at the end of our flight very different beings than at the start. In the Native American animal symbolism, the butterfly totem conveys transcendence, and is the greatest symbol of our power to choose the path of our own destiny. Through my jungle journey, I remained mesmerised by the butterflies on my path. Some just flitted by and disappeared, some accompanied me a little while, and some just sat quietly on their leaves, adorning the way. And some, did indeed seem to come to draw me back to the moment like a Buddhist bell when I was allowing myself to be brought down by aches, sweat and fatigue. They were to me almost as unreal in beauty as mythical creatures. There were the metallic greens and indigos, the blacks, the sunflower yellows, the clear sea blue shell-shaped ones. There were the ones with surreal hypnotising winking eyes on their wings, and then my favourite, the tree trunk brown. Those soft chocolate butterflies that shimmered purple as they flew, were close to the most beautiful creatures I have ever had the honour of encountering in my short soul sojourn. My companions quickly got used to me just breaking down into streams of tears, and even as I write, the emotion swells in my chest. Walking into the real jungle for the first time, is an unforgettable and soul-touching experience. It is like stepping into the most amazing ancient cathedral you can imagine. It feels like being in a living green glowing temple. Each pillar is a growing breathing magnificent tower of tree. I was in constant awe, and still am. I walked in there and something touched me deep inside. As I stepped into the ocean of wise trees, something in me became incredibly quiet. It was a natural quietening, as one would experience in a thin place, on holy ground. I stood in front of those giants and could not begin to fathom how any man could conceive of the thought to cut them down.

It is incredible to me was that I did not feel alien or like an intruder there. I lost all sense of self, like I just melted into the place; my senses opened and formed a kind of connection, I felt an inherent oneness. That fecund space smells of growth and decay and regeneration, and I was constantly aware of the cycle of life happening around me. As with the butterflies, I was aware of the spiral nature of things, and began to think more and more about my life in terms of a spiral, and not a time line. On our walks, we found a magic forest waterfall and I had a wonderful time stripping off my clothes and bathing in the very cool mountain water. It was so refreshing after the steaminess of the jungle, a perfect moment.

Mulu is famous for its various caves, and seeing as I am not really a cavey person, I decided to skip most of the cave parts and enjoy communing with nature outside. There is one cave which is famous for the bats. I have never been really interested in bats, Photography by Stefani Clark

but several people had told me that this was well worth a look. We arrived there shortly before sunset, and I let the others go cave exploring while I waiting flat on my back on the wooden platform outside the cave for the bat show to begin. It really was one of the most unusual and awe-inspiring experiences of the trip. The bats come out at night in huge swarms to go hunting. I was there alone when the first groups appeared; they emerged from a gap high up on a cliff. They poured out and started to swirl in a circular formation, flying in a spiral several times before taking off into the twilight. The bats exited the cave group after group, doing their circle ritual before going after their prey. I loved this and am so happy that I got to witness this very unusual spectacle of nature. We had to walk back about 4 kilometres after sunset, and that in itself was really special. The trees loomed above us and after a while the path was completely dark. There were occasional dim lights and some people had torches. Little did we know that the next magic show was about to begin. Just thinking of it makes me smile broadly again. On that walk back to the main gate, we were treated to the sight of beautiful ethereal illusive little fire flies. They would dart in front of us and then into the trees, like little mini lighthouses showing the way. I was so tired by then, but my heart was singing and it is something I will always remember, those tiny fireflies coming to lift our spirits. I was so deeply reminded that the trees and animals just so what they do; they have no sense of judgement or expectation. As I return to my everyday life, I remember the lessons I have learned from nature about time, allowing the processes to happen without resistance, and to practise a natural letting go.

GARDENING July in the Garden By

Andre Duif July countrywide, or at least in South Africa is pruning month. Especially true for fruit trees and roses, but also any deciduous shrubs that may be in need of a trim. Remember to shred all your cuttings and pop them onto the compost heap that you’ve almost certainly already started, haven’t you? Actually, I just love this time of the year, everything is resting, preparing for spring. The skies are a magnificent blue and even though dreary and cold, there is an anticipation of what is to come. Transplanting is another common necessity during July as many plants and trees are dormant and can be moved without worrying about disturbing them. Make sure once transplanted they get a hard prune back and some fertilizer in the soil to begin the new season with renewed growing vigour. So if you’re looking for a change of scenery or just to update the overall look and feel of your garden, now is an ideal time. Cool-season edibles and annuals will now be available at your local accredited garden centre, so pop in for a culinary and colour delight. It may be chilly out, but your garden would probably enjoy a dash of attention as much as your body would enjoy a bit of fresh air. Like I always say, nothing brings more winter cheer than a few winter flowers. Plant up a few pots and position them outside your windows so you can see them on a cold day. I am not familiar with gardening in every province of South Africa, but here are a few pointers for the provinces I have some knowledge of. Remember these are only pointers for each province so are not confined to that province. The same principals will apply anywhere in the country. The Free State is well known for its fruit trees, and the sheer variety available in July is inspiring. Garden centres should have plenty of new trees in stock, including figs, olives and grapes. Plant a flowering cherry, peach, plum or apple tree this month for a beautiful addition to your garden come late August, when these true pioneers of spring will be sporting the most beautiful blossoms. It’s really cold out during July in Gauteng so one could be forgiven for not wanting to venture into the garden, but it’s still important to keep your bird feeders and baths topped up. Insects have gone underground and seeds are in especially short supply in this province, so they could really do with the additional sustenance, not to mention the reciprocal enjoyment received you will receive from having them flitting about your garden. In fact be aware that any seedling coming into bloom like Alyssum, and Primulas, will attract bees who seem to never stop. Aneis de Vida

It is also pruning season in KZN, so pull out those sharp secateurs and a good pair of gloves. Once you’re finished shortening your rose bush to its desired length, till the soil around it to about 4cm deep. Apply one cup of agricultural lime (to sweeten the soil), one tablespoon of potassium sulphate (to strengthen the stems), and water in extremely well. Apply some rose dressing to cover a 30-40cm circle around your rose bush, working it in about 2-3cm deep. Finish off by spraying the entire bush with a mixture of one part lime sulphur and five parts water (to eradicate any disease and insect problems) and you’ll have the healthiest roses on your block! Then of course there is the fairest Cape, although very cold wet, and windy in winter the Western Cape is well known for its fabulous fynbos and proteas. July is an excellent time of year to add some indigenous gems to your garden. Fynbos is happiest if planted in well-draining soil and in full sun. They eventually become drought tolerant, only requiring water once a week, but water them twice a week while they’re establishing themselves if rainfall is scarce. Now is also the time to plant all the magnificent species of new protea varieties that have become available. I am thinking of Madiba, a variety of the King Protea, also the "Pink Ice", "Susara", and "Sylvia", to name but a few. Magnificent varieties, that will colour up any unsightly open space in your garden. Folks, Winter solstice has come and gone on the 20th June, be brave, be strong, before we know it, spring will be on it's way. For now, keep warm and drink lots of hot chocolate.

The truth about Addiction… By Lou Worldweaver

“The greatest pain is not being loved for who you are in your naturalness.”

As you read this article I encourage you not to exclude yourself from having addictive patterns, you can become addicted to anything from the most overt to the most subtle. This includes things like social media, cell phones, internet surfing and TV. As long as it satisfies your need to zone out, escape from or numb any unpleasant, uncomfortable or painful feelings there is a potential of it becoming an addiction. After more than 20 years of working with and counselling people on this subject, I have not yet met anyone who doesn’t have some form of addiction that they are dealing with on some level. Level one is the experimentation stage of looking for satisfaction, relief or escape, while at Level five the addictive behaviour is an engrained pattern becoming a way of life. At level ten all hope has been forfeited in lieu of complete surrender to the addiction.

Human beings learn and grow through the process of life experience. Not all experiences and lessons are easy or fun; some are difficult, painful and remain unresolved. Whenever the energy of discomfort or pain is felt, the natural impulse is to avoid, run away or suppress any feelings of pain. The greatest of these is not being loved for who you are in your naturalness. This results in lower self-worth and self-esteem, diminishes your self-love and creates negative core beliefs about yourself which become your truth. They distort your perception of reality and of who you are. These beliefs are like infected, festering sores or wounds that never heal causing continuous discomfort and pain. Due to the instinctual reaction to escape the pain, you go through a process of experimenting with various substances, behaviours and techniques until you discover what works best. At first it can all seem very innocent as you enjoy the comfort it brings. Believing that you have it under control, you convince yourself with phrases like, “I can quit anytime” or “I do it because I enjoy it.” As you give it more importance it settles more habitually into your daily routine, rooting itself deeply until it turns into an addiction. For some, one addiction may suffice while others may choose to engage with multiple addictions. Aneis de Vida

July 2015

Understanding Addictive Behaviour All addictions are based in a behavioural or substance dependency which is created either physiologically or psychologically. This dependency evolves into a repetitive compulsive need in your life, cycling as an endless loop containing 4 phases. Phase one is pre-occupation. You feel an uncomfortable emptiness or hole that you don’t know how to deal with. Your mind becomes engrossed with obsessive thinking about your addiction, focusing on the rush it will bring and how it will take the discomfort away. The pre-occupation builds in energy, fuelling the need to use. Phase two is ritualization. You create an increasing arousal, stimulating more excitement about the way you are going to do your addiction. Your mind is filled with countless rationalizations, convincing yourself with all the reasons why your addiction really works for you and why you need to do it. Phase three is acting out the compulsive behaviour. This is the secret world of using that you live in, the hidden side of your dual life that is never shared with anyone. Here you become isolated, distancing yourself from others as you try to shut out the world. Your attention turns inward, solely focusing on using your substance or doing your behaviour. Although you are partially aware that the addiction only provides a temporary fix, by this time you believe you have already gone too far therefore you’re compelled to do it anyway. Phase four is despair. Every time you are in this phase you lose a little more hope and power to the addiction, leading you to believe you will never heal or break free from it. The despair deepens, self-esteem and self-love are diminished and the pain from the gaping wounds of the past worsens. You convince yourself your only salvation is through your addiction, so you loop back to the first phase of pre-occupation with the misguided intent once again of escaping from and numbing your pain.

Addiction is not a disease! Addiction is not a disease, in fact any addiction can be healed and transformed. This is totally contrary to the philosophy and approach of the more popular Addiction Rehab and 12 Step Programs and why they have such a low success rate. The philosophy of these programs is based in a false logic believing that an alcoholic is forever an alcoholic, never to be cured and never to drink again. If this is so, then where does that leave the food or sex addict? Are they never to eat food or enjoy the pleasure of love making again for the rest of their lives? It is absurd and disrespectful to treat an addicted person as a victim, sentenced to be disAneis de Vida

eased for the rest of their lives cowering under the ominous shadow of their chosen vice. This is an insult to humanity and defeats the human spirit’s ability to rise above adversity. Addiction is a pattern of behaviour so deeply ingrained in the body that it dictates to the body what it must have, when it must have it, how often it must have it, etc. The brain develops neural pathways or memory programs that reinforce the addictive behaviour and the body’s pattern of need. This does not constitute a disease but rather a chronic behavioural condition that can be addressed, corrected and healed. Only two ingredients are necessary to effectively correct and heal addictive behaviour. The first is your willingness to face the cause of your addiction, with the understanding that if you created it you can feel it, heal it and let it go. There are no quick easy fixes nor any magickal short cuts. It is a step by step process of peeling back the dysfunctional layers of addictive behaviour and negative beliefs in order to get to the core issue. As each layer is peeled away you experience a transformational process of healing the pain, gaining more insight and inner strength to help remove the next layer. The second is getting the right kind of experienced facilitation to help, support and guide you along the process as you tap into your vast resource of personal power in order to heal and live a happy fulfilling life. Everyone deserves to live a life that's full of happiness, love and abundance more than anything else, including you. You can no longer afford to believe that you have no other choice than to be an addict for the rest of your life because of the lies you’ve been told about addiction or all the previous disappointing failed attempts to heal your addictions. You do have a choice and yes, you can be happy again. The power is within you to magically transform your life and go after what you dream for yourself. There is no better time like the present to take the steps to make this happen before you let more precious moments of your life slip away and risk losing the people you love and care about, your job, your home and your precious self-worth. Now is the perfect time to take charge of your life and follow your dreams! Walk in Beauty, Lou Worldweaver

Women are the weaker sex? By Lindsey Bertrams Is this true? Can this be right? Women can multi-task, are logical thinkers, able to give birth, nurture their young till they are old enough to leave the ‘nest’. Women in Shakespearean times were referred to as the “Fairer Sex” did this mean weaker? What makes women ‘weak’? The thought of their children be harmed would be a good example. Any member of her family being injured or hurt. Women can be the strongest in the family. Their faith or belief the strongest. The bond they have with their children one of the strongest bonds encountered. Women with years of education, looking after their siblings, doing many of the duties in the home from the laundry to cooking, cleaning, doing the ironing etc During the Second World War women actually proved they could learn to do, and did hard labour when their menfolk were summoned to war to fight. Now women have joined the Armed Forces. Again what makes a woman weak? Could it be the partner they wish to share the rest of their lives with, for better or worse, in sickness and health? Richer or poorer. As everyone is not born a serial killer or becomes one from an abusive upbringing, as each person is unique, there are genetic markers that will define us into adulthood. Not all are born good or bad. As not all become rocket scientists or car mechanics. What makes some people stronger may turn others into Aneis de Vida

criminals. Alcoholism is a pre-disposition. Parents that smoke are more likely to raise future smokers. In the end it is up to the individual, to join groups such as AA (alcohol or drug addiction) Criminalists are still trying to define the trigger that sets children/young adults/adults into criminality. Thievery can be defined by poverty. Unfortunately these days drug addiction will turn these into burglars. Is it the neighbourhood one is raised in? No, as many from impoverished families have risen to fame, fortune and stardom. Being overindulged? In many an instance this is true. They need more excitement for stimulation as most working folk are exhausted or very tired after the work commute, working a full day coming home to prepare meals, do chores and see to their families. So what makes women weak? Or, the weaker sex?

Women scorned taking revenge by murdering the cheating partner sometimes with the ‘other woman,’ other’s seek a less subtle revenge, or by divorcing their partner. Women in wrestling and boxing? Women becoming body builders. Does this signify that women are becoming much stronger? Women helping their partners by enticing children for their partner to get sexual gratification? Women indulging in three-some’s for their partner’s gratification. Women wiling to degrade themselves via prostitution or simply to please their partners, performing sexual acts that not only humiliate them, but also degrade them, debasing them as ‘human’. Women willing to be the slave, just to have a ‘man around the house’ enduring excessive alcohol or drug abuse. Is this because they ‘just want to keep the peace’? Women ‘throwing’ themselves at men – why? As women are becoming breadwinners and raising decent future contributors to society, why is it that so many are willing to become abused and endure abuse, degradation and humiliation? Put up with so much just to ‘have a partner’ or someone to be with them. Losing their true self and worth in the long run. Why don’t men take rape more seriously? Is it easier to blame the victim? How do we go about raising ‘strong women’? Raising their self-esteem, helping them to see their own value(s) telling women that marriage isn’t the easy way out of a bad home situation, when they are in school or college. That pregnancy does NOT ‘keep the Aneis de Vida

man’ home or faithful. Women are taught that they are to bear children, and if a married woman is not pregnant is inundated with questions of WHY. In the work place women are often regarded as the lowly workers. They are in the same classification as the cleaner or the tea lady. Women have started breaking out of this ‘shell’ becoming strong leaders and of the hardest working, in the work place. Should the women start taking charge of their lives? YES! Breaking the cycle. Daughters will ‘marry their fathers’ as sons ‘marry their mothers’ so if the father was an abusers (physical or mental) the daughter will ‘accept’ her partner’s bad behaviour. Son’s find out that their partner ‘knows her own mind’ and will try and dominate his partner to become like his mother (tolerant of abuse, bad behaviour etc). Once we start teaching our children from an early age, these abusive situations will lessen. We start by not having that drink when getting home from work. More conversation, showing interest in the other members of the family. Keeping an eye on teenagers that they do not get into drugs or alcohol due to peer pressure. Having open discussions with our children can we begin to break this cycle! Teach our children to respect their bodies as we teach them to respect their elders. By being available to our family members to speak openly, actually listening to them. Sometimes words are said in a manner as to deflect their true intention or purpose. Women to take a stand. Not to accept bad behaviour ‘because it is expected of them’ When counselling is suggested, not to take umbrage, rather to rationalise why this support is needed. Adults to stop turning a ‘blind eye’ to situations that construe future bad behaviour. Who knows you could stop a future serial abuser/rapist/ even murderer. Stop your daughter becoming the next victim of an abuser. Your son to respect his future spouse. That the day your daughter walks down the isle to ‘marry her father’ knowing that she will expecting respect and to be loved. That when the son ‘marries his mother’ he will honour and love her the way she should be loved.

The excitement at the

was so thick the gang could almost feel it like heat on their skins. Betsy was up and ready to go fetch the gang before the sun was up. Mrs Piglet scolded Betsy telling her “if you don’t get a proper night’s sleep you will be snoozing before the party”, Mrs Piglet then shooed Betsy back to bed. Betsy couldn’t contain herself, sleep was out of the question. Betsy snuck into the pen where Jetsy was sleeping. Moving quietly so as not to wake ‘Mum and Dad’ she moved as softly as possible. When she got to where Jetsy was lying, she saw his eyes were wide open. Betsy put her snout (nose) against Jetsy’s ear and tried to whisper softly “are you ready to go”? He squealed in fright. Jetsy was thinking of the party later in the day and was trying to guess what games would be played. Mr Piglet stormed into the pen but had to laugh at the fear on Jetsy’s face and the look of horror on Betsy’s face. Mrs Piglet got up mumbling how “she never got a moment’s peace, or quiet or rest” and went to see that the family had their breakfast – we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Aneis de Vida

75

July 2015

Starting the day off with lots of fruit, vegetables for lunch and to snack on when feeling that the next meal time was such a long way off, nuts or fruit.

Mrs Piglet gave Betsy and Jetsy permission to leave the home, reminding her to ask the other parent’s permission to leave so early in the morning. Mrs Piglet told both Betsy and Jetsy not to bother the adults or helpers getting ready for the party. Betsy and Jetsy scurried to get the gang together.

Everyone was so excited and talking at the top of their voices. There was no one who was not trying to guess what surprises the day would bring.

As they neared the dam where the Wolf stayed they heard frantic shouting. They saw Alaska Wild running off with something in his mouth. So the gang rushed to where the humans were huddled, watching as John ran to catch up to Alaska Wild. They heard Farmer Ben ask “do you think that was, a rabbit - Alaska Wild had in his mouth”? The gang were shocked, started getting frightened as Wolves are meat eaters and they were meat! Would they be next on the Wolf menu?

Mrs Jen was at the top of the rise, bent over with her hands on her knees. Her head was bent down and her chest was heaving. Standing up straight Mrs Jen started waving her arms. Farmer Ben saw her and rushed over to Mrs Jen.

Mrs Jen was still out of breath, waving her arms trying to speak with her hands. Farmer Ben thought Mrs Jen was upset over Alaska Wild catching one of the bunny rabbits and tried to comfort Mrs Jen. Mrs Jen gently smacked his hand, shaking her head and still being out of breath tried to mime what she wanted to say to him.

Farmer Ben stood back and waved to the rest of the people still huddled in a circle. They were clearly upset and not sure how to proceed, whether to run after Alaska Wild or just staying put.

Chasing Alaska Wild would spook him making him run even faster. Wolves are very shy creatures. Wolves can be very sneaky. Wolves can be playful. Wolves can be very naughty. Which was Alaska Wild? Was he just playing with the rabbit?

Mrs Jen got her breath back and shouted “Alaska Wild has his own stuffed toy Animal” she paused, shouting even louder “The bunny rabbit’s hutch has a big hole dug under for the bunny rabbits to escape. Angela has rounded up all the bunnies and getting volunteers to pour concrete so the bunny rabbits can’t escape again”.

Mrs Jen then rested her head on Famer Ben’s shoulder, hugging him around the waist. “Oh dear, now we have to try and coax Alaska Wild back to his enclosure. The poor fella is probably very frightened with you lot shouting and chasing after him”.

Angela came running up with the news the vans had arrived and that she would see if she could coax Alaska Wild with some beef jerky (biltong in South Africa).

Everyone started moving quickly toward the caravan of vehicles arriving with the stalls and party treats.

Betsy told the gang “let them go ahead, we will follow to see exactly where the party is to be held”.

Gosh there were jumping castles. A stall where one threw a tennis ball trying to hit the target and win a prize. A prize! Ladies Aneis de Vida

were unpacking their wares, embroidered table cloths. Clothes for boys and girls. Winter clothing for the upcoming season. Wooden toys. Woollen toys. Toys made out of beads. Toys made out of wire. A Man was putting up a sign above his stall. Nick Nacks. Nick Nacks? Then they saw he had second hand stuff, things that people had donated as today was to raise funds for The Barnyard.

Balloons were being hung on the stalls. Someone had an accordion and started playing a very festive tune. Another man joined in with a drum around his neck. Then along came another man with a flute. A Lady was sitting on a chair playing her harp in tune with the Musicians.

Cars were arriving and people were waving hello to all as they slowly drove past. Children were laughing and pointing at Betsy and the gang.

What a wonderful party this was going to be. Someone was making popcorn. Another was making Candy Floss. Someone was making pancakes. The sounds of food being prepared was floating in the air like Angel Wings with all the lovely smells tickling their noses and making their mouths water. The prettiest little girl was dragging her Daddy to where Betsy and the gang were. The father was worried as he didn’t know if his daughter would be able to pet Betsy and the gang. Would his daughter get bitten? Betsy went up to the little girl. Sniffed her dress. Sniffed her hair then put her mouth close to the little girl’s face. The little girl was so happy, she petted Betsy then each of the gang. They nibbled softly at her hair and dress. Nibbling her fingers ever so gently. The father was so happy and turned around to tell the mother that their daughter was meeting some of the Barnyard residents (Animals) when the other children came running to meet Betsy and the gang.

July is a great time to move toward the completion of your desires. Your life force is vibrating with power and resonance. Remain focused and achieve.

There seems to be positive changes in store for you this month. The changes you have been working on are ready to blossom with wonderful results.

What seems to be in store for you this month is celebrating life, family and community. A month of togetherness and blessings.

If you allow negative behaviour the universe will send you more. So in July stand your ground and be true to yourself.

You may find that money is a bit tight this month so be aware of your spending. On a positive note however, things will soon be looking better.

For you this is a beautiful month as there is a good possibility of exciting new beginnings and some exceptionally good news on the way.

Let go of those habits, they are preventing you from moving forward. There are better choices to be made that will bring about positive changes.

Reach out into new and uncharted waters of creativity. Release the old and herald in the new. You are more than ready to step out into the new avenue before you.

Make self care a priority this month. Let go of the old experiences and open your heart and soul to the new experiences at hand.

For the month of July, you need to remain open and receptive to the good that is out there and ready to make itself known to you. If you take hold of it, it will turn out to be a true blessing in your life.

Blessings will seem to follow you through the month. Not just on a personal level but also on a professional level. This is a wonderful month for you Scorpions.

You seem to have been struggling to find the right direction to take. Someone will come that will hand it to you on a silver platter, and from there you will soar. Aneis de Vida
