An elderly couple had just learned how to send text messages on their mobile phones. The wife was a romantic type, the husband was more of a no nonsense type. One afternoon the wife went out to meet a friend for coffee. She decides to send her husband a romantic text message. If you are sleeping send me your dreams. If you are laughing send me your smile. If you are eating send me a bite. If you are drinking send me a sip. If you are crying send me your tears. I love you. The husband texted back to her.

I am on the toilet, please advise…..

"Fifty Sheds Of Grey" - Colin Grey Here are some extracts

I'm a very naughty girl,ˇ she said, biting her lip. I need to be punished.ˇ So I invited my mum to stay for the weekend.

Are you sure you can take the pain?ˇ she demanded, brandishing stilettos. I think so,ˇ I gulped. Here we go, then,ˇ she said, and showed me the receipt.

Are you sure you want this? I asked. When Im done, you wont be able to sit down for weeks.ˇ She nodded. Okay,ˇ I said, putting the three-piece lounge furniture on eBay.

Soon it will be compulsory for the elderly to not only carry their ID with them, but also their insurance papers, their list of medication and a compact version of their medical history, their views about resuscitation after a cardiac arrest etc, etc. So, when an older person wants to go out he or she will need to carry a lot of paperwork!! That is why there has been developed a special USB stick for seniors. Available soon, but only on prescription!

THIS WAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE YOUR USB HANDY ...

SHERRI COLUMBUS

By

Tilanie Meierhans

I was conditioned to believe it was wrong to speak to angels. That it was actually demons trying to sway me. Where did your spiritual journey begin? Wow! That’s a loaded question! I should say as a child in North Vancouver B.C. Canada where I lived. As a young child living in a forest region on the mountain, next to a mighty river at the mouth of the ocean, I was VERY connected to source! I was ALWAYS in the forest, mostly alone aside only from my cousin & brother. I was always VERY connected to nature, still am! :) Animals were my closest friends. I actually spoke a foreign language. It wasn't one known to any "adults" or other children for that matter! I spoke a language to the animals. Whenever my brother or cousins would try to copy the words I used, I would change the dialect! I just knew it was sacred. You see my mother married a Jehovah’s Witness & my little, wild, forest child life changed dramatically. NO ONE spoke about it, nor questioned that I spoke a different language?? It was known & I held onto bits of it until age 12. Sadly after 12 I lost it. I only retain one word still to this day "Beusabya" It was what I called my dog. I suppose it was a way my higher self knew to protect what I knew until a time when I would re awaken. Which began around 7 or 8 years ago...I often wonder if it was Gaelic? As I am Welsh. But, I don't know? I wish I could pull it back. I’m told I may recover it one day. Did you ever try and deny what you are or who you are (with regards to your abilities)? ABSOLUTELY I did!! I fought with myself for YEARS! I was conditioned to believe it was wrong to speak to angels. That it was actually demons trying to sway me from my spiritual path. Religion is a real challenge to overcome. It was VERY hard for me! I was

VERY devout in my beliefs. I thought what I was taught was the ONLY truth. I was wrong. And it took a VERY long time to come to terms with that. SO SAD! I am WELL past that now! THANK GOD! Yet I KNOW that all happened as it was meant. To be raised as I was taught me to respect God & his love. It taught me morals & compassion. It also allowed me the experience of knowing what it feels like to come from that & the confusion you go through when your beliefs are challenged. Though I was devout in my beliefs, I never had the personal relationship with spirit that I hold now. I AM SO closely connected to the Divine & AM SO GRATEFUL for it every day! It guides my life! I now can help others as they leave their religious restrictions & allow themselves to open up to the truth of who we all really are! :) What is it that you most enjoy about your work? I LOVE that what I am honoured to do is HELPING people! I love that when I do my "work" it is not only giving guidance to others but that I am also receiving guidance at the same time! Every question I am asked just has me reconfirming my faith & beliefs! I am taught by each & every person I work with! If there is something I am to understand I will literally have someone come to me asking a question & BAM! There is my lesson! What a WIN! WIN! Situation that is. Has your ability been able to help you in times of ‘’need’’? (More in terms of when you need answers). Oh ABSOLUTELY! I turn to spirit ALWAYS when I need help! I call upon God & Archangel Michael specifically as my go to guy! Whenever I need to lift my vibration & I'm struggling I ASK for help! & it comes like LIGHTNING! & it isn't general. It is VERY specific & pin points what I am struggling with! I may receive it through a song on the radio, an emailed question from another which causes me to research the answer & BAM! There’s my help,... whatever way spirit needs to use to get it to me the quickest! Have you in previous years encountered a lot of negativity towards your gift? I have & still do. Many thought & may still think, I was or AM a witch as I practice Full Moon Release rituals. I am very connected to the earth energy & some find that odd. I find it natural. My own son has limited his relationship with me because of what I do. That has been the hardest. I love my son & yet I know his path is his to walk, just as mine is mine. I just love him unconditionally & he loves me as well. We just don't have the relationship we once did & that’s my "cross to bear". As far as others go, I’m an Aries! We are outspoken, determined & unafraid of what others think, generally. I'm tough! I KNOW who I AM & what I AM all about. I have stumbled as I was & continue to RE-learn all of this! But, I KNOW I AM blessed with gifts & I EMBRACE them! With regards to all the shifts taking place, do you find that people are becoming more open or better phrased awakened? I definitely find people are awakening much more quickly & on a larger scale now. Things have definitely sped up. It’s that or Spirit is just directing them to me! No really, I DO believe more people are becoming aware of their gifts. We ALL have them! It’s just getting past the fear of the not understanding. You know most people are afraid of what they don't understand. Which is why I dedicate every day of my life to being available to help people understand what is happening to them as they go through their awakening process. I have several pages I work each day along with the Private Readings & Dream analysis I do & the online work I do at this time on "Keen". There was no one I could turn to when it began with me & I wondered at times if I was losing it! I barrelled my way through it & spirit sent me 50 friend requests a DAY on Facebook of spiritual people, for MONTHS. This led me to different sites & spiritual messages that allowed me to dig in & research for myself what was taking place within me. It helps that I'm a bit of a private detective & leave no stone unturned when I am looking for answers! I’m DETERMINED to say the least! All that I was led to was clearly showing me I was being guided .

My greatest wish is that we learn to LOVE

each other and recognize we are all ONE.

Your greatest wish for the earth’s inhabitants? That we learn to LOVE each other & recognize that we are ALL one. NO MORE WAR. I LOVE how spirit incorporates my love for music in the messages they bring me! I thought when I chose to leave Wisconsin & all of the music I was involved with there & move on to Sedona to continue my spiritual work, that I was having to let go of something so important to me in order to follow my Path.. But it’s clear that Spirit has chosen to use the 2 things I love MOST, incorporating both my Spiritual work & music to help me as well as teach others along my path. A DEFINITE WIN WIN!!! This is my Mantra for now!

My Mantra For Now is

‘’FIGHT SONG’’ "Fight Song" Like a small boat On the ocean Sending big waves Into motion Like how a single word Can make a heart open I might only have one match but I can make an explosion

And all those things I didn't say Wrecking balls inside my brain I will scream them loud tonight Can you hear my voice this time

This is my fight song Take back my life song Prove I'm alright song My power's turned on Starting right now I'll be strong I'll play my fight song And I don't really care if nobody else believes Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me Aneis de Vida

Losing friends and I'm chasing sleep Everybody's worried about me In too deep Say I'm in too deep And it's been two years I miss my home But there's a fire burning in my bones And I still believe Yeah I still believe And all those things I didn't say Wrecking balls inside my brain I will scream them loud tonight Can you hear my voice this time

This is my fight song Take back my life song Prove I'm alright song My power's turned on Starting right now I'll be strong I'll play my fight song And I don't really care if nobody else believes Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

A lot of fight left in me

Like a small boat On the ocean

Now I've still got a lot of fight left in me

Do you believe every person has the ability to be psychic? We absolutely do! We are ALL spirit creatures. We were spirit before we came here & we will be spirit once again when we leave this place. We are all pieces of the Divine & have the ability to tap into the wisdom that created us. What is your advice to those wishing to open themselves up more? ASK! Say; "I AM open to receive the gifts of knowledge that is available to me. I stand ONLY in the presence of the HIGHEST order of Love & Light as I AM open ONLY to positive energy, love & light". What is your biggest success story – where you helped someone and feel that you truly contributed to helping them? Oh wow! I don't take personal credit for ANY of my work. I wouldn't call one story more successful than another. This isn't ME doing this alone! I am merely a channel. I feel like the Mail lady delivering the mail from Spirit haha, I wouldn't presume to toot my own proverbial horn. How presumptuous that would be! I stumble & grow & then stumble & level up another notch. I will continue to, I am certain until I am fully back in spirit. We are NEVER done learning here! What I DO find to be the greatest success is the friends I have gained through ones being connected to me by spirit.

Birth Month - June PEARLS Interestingly enough most of the months have actual gemstones as the birthstone yet June has two one of which being the Pearl. This gem is not found within the earth however, they are created inside the shells of certain species of oysters and clams and some are found in molluscs that inhabit the sea or freshwaters. Pearls are formed when small particles of rock, sand or parasites enter the mollusc. These particles create an irritation and the mollusc will form layer upon layer of shell material around it. In Greek mythology it was believed that Pearls were formed when tears of joy fell from the eyes of goddess Aphrodite hardened. South Asian mythology believed Pearls were

dewdrops from heaven that fell into the sea and caught by shellfish under the first rays of the morning sun. In India warriors adorned their swords with pearls as a show of tears and sorrow that the sword brings forth. In ancient Greece, pearls were thought to be formed when the tears of joy that fell from the eyes of goddess Aphrodite hardened. The June birthstone was widely used to prepare medicines in Europe, Persia and China and was believed to be a cure for insanity.

ALEXANDRITE Colours ranging from red, yellowish or pink. Alexandrite gems show dramatic colour changes. At one point in time it was thought to be found only in the Ural Mountains, Russia, but have since also been found in Brazil, India, Madagascar and Tanzania. The history is rather controversial and dates back to Imperial Russia. The stone was named after the Russian Tsar – Alexander II, discovered by Nils Gustaf Nordenskiold. Legend has it that alexandrite was created the day the future Tsar of Russia became of age. And due to the red and green colour change, it was declared the gemstone of the Imperial Russian Tsardom. USES AND HEALING POWERS Discipline and self-control. Can promote concentration, self- confidence and learning abilities. Wearing this gemstone brings luck, good fortune and love. It is used to bridge the physical and spiritual worlds, bringing with it a heightened awareness. It can also be used for all healing purposes due to its warm energies. Alexandrite is believed to also strengthen the creative imagination and intuition of all users.

Mana Pools and the lower Zambezi River. Zambezi Sun The sun is peeping over the eastern horizon The air is clean, crispy & light The dawn is breaking over the mist on the river Another day is coming, born from the night

http://www.zambezi.com/media/mp3/ZambeziSun.mp3 "Zambezi Sun" by Bud Cockcroft (mp3 format As the Zambesi River surges from the restrictions of the gorge and the Kariba dam wall it matures expansively across the valley floor of the lower Zambesi basin towards the Indian ocean creating a natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and a indubitable garden of Eden where the fauna and flora of Africa survive without restriction as they have done for millennia. Approximately 100kms downs stream of Kariba Dam, Mana Pools forms part of the 10,500 square kilometre Parks and Wildlife Estate that runs from the Kariba Dam in the west to the Mozambique border in the east. This magnificent and extensive wildlife and wilderness corridor is acknowledged as one of the finest in Africa and with no physical boundaries the wildlife is free to roam across the Zambezi Aneis de Vida

River into Zambia, where there too are large wilderness conservation areas. In some places the Zambezi river is 2 km wide or more, and flows around many sandy islands. The river water is considered to be very clean, if rather nutrient-poor. This unique park earned its WORLD HERITAGE SITE accolade based on its wildness, beauty, diversity of large mammals and over 350 bird species and aquatic wildlife. Mana Pools is one of Zimbabwe's most beloved parks and rightly so.

The name "Mana'' is derived from "four" in the local Shona language, describing the four large pools on the southern side of the Zambezi River. These pools are primordial remains of ox-bow lakes carved by the Zambezi River since prehistoric times. 'Long Pool'', is the largest of the four pools at almost six km long depending on the season, and is frequented by large populations of hippo, crocodiles and is a favourite haunt for large herds of elephant seeking relief from the dry thickets of “jesse bush”, a mixed-species layered dry forest, plus the diverse species of aquatic birds that are resident among the pools and the river; fish eagles and many species of stork, heron and other water-based fowl are common, southern (formally scarlet) carmine bee-eaters nest in colonies in the river banks in the dry months, and rare treats include the elusive Pels Fishing Owl and the African Skimmer, which nest on sandbanks mid-river.

As one moves towards the River there are wide alluvial fertile river terraces flanking either side of the river supporting mature woodlands of "Winter-thorn"/Ana - "apple-ring" - acacia Faidherbia albida, towering ebony, figs, and majestic mahogany and tamarind trees. This vegetation gives Mana the unique “look” and feel that makes Mana so special as the surreal light filters through the trees. In the dry season, the shady glades beneath these huge trees, are filled with huge concentrations of African wildlife - herds of impala, eland, elephant, zebra, buffalo, waterbuck and kudu - a plentiful supply of prey for the lion, leopard, wild dog, hyena and other predators and scavengers that inhabit this unique and mystical place. Walking on the flood plain amongst the Albida woodlands is an incredible way to view game, visibility is good and therefore the danger of unexpectantly coming across dangerous animals is lessened. New regulations however rule that novices to the bush must be Aneis de Vida

accompanied on walks by a proficient guide as encountering elephant, eland, buffalo, impala, waterbuck, baboons, monkeys, zebra, warthog and hippo on the river terraces as they come out to eat the fallen Albida fruit is a high probability. Lions, leopards, spotted hyena and cheetah are present in the area, but their secretive nature makes them more difficult to see. At night one will inevitably hear their calls, if not have them walking through camp!! It is seldom that the visitor leaves Mana Pools without seeing at least one of these predators.

The Zambezi River at Mana Pools is a wide, magical vista, dotted with islands and the shapes of elephants, buffalo and other wildlife wading in the shallows in search of food. From the Zimbabwean side of the river, the high rift valley escarpment of Zambia form a spectacular and dramatic backdrop to this idyllic river scene, especially at sun rise and sunset. Pools, pans and springs Away from the river itself, pools dry up during the dry season, wildlife concentrates around a few inland pans and some springs at the foot of the Zambezi Escarpment Mountains. The lions lie in wait, knowing that thirsty prey have no option but to drink here, and visitors to places like Chitake Spring are likely to be rewarded with incredible sightings of these predators in action. A wilderness experience In line with the exceptional wilderness experience offered in this park, as there are no fences at all, visitors should be aware that wildlife wanders freely through at any given time., activities in Mana Pools are exclusively nature-based: day-long or extended canoe trips down the Zambezi River, walking, hiking, game viewing, bird watching and, at night, studying the stars in an incredibly clear sky. Limited fishing is allowed, but only from the land. During the safari season (April - October), no motor-boats are not permitted on the Mana Pools river frontage because of noise, pollution and wave action disturbing the wilderness qualities of the park. Boats are permitted only during the rainy season (November - March), but access is difficult at this time of year. Near Chitake Spring in Aneis de Vida

the south of the park, remains of dinosaur skeletons have recently been found embedded in deep layers of rock exposed in the eroded bank of a nearby river. These are being investigated by specialists. MANA POOLS AS A SOUL JOURNEY For the love of elephants. Wilderness Ruckomechi (pronounced Ru-com-etri) – Mana Pools Lower Zambezi, Zimbabwe. As their long serpentine trunks swung and curled, and the pods were shovelled into their throats, there was a soft sound that seemed to reverberate through each of their great grey frames. It was a gentle rumbling in many different keys, and the sound was interspersed with tiny creaking gurgling squeaks barely audible to the human ear. It was a strangely contented chorus, in which even the young beasts joined in. It was a sound that seemed to express joy of life and to confirm the deep bond that linked all members of the herd. It was the song of the elephant. ~ Elephant Song, Wilbur Smith ~

The camp is set at the edge of the Albida and mahogany forest, within a stone’s throw of the confluence of the Ruckomechi and Zambezi rivers, in the dry season the broad canopied albida tree pods attract the elephants who will go to any lengths to devour these tasty delicacies, and whatever falls to the ground is snacked on by other smaller animals. The camp is laid out in such a manner as to retain its intimacy and still feature views of the water and the flood plain from every room, it is not uncommon to see herds of impala, buffalo, elephant, ‘sounders of warthog’ and other grazers out on the floodplain in front of the lodge.

The camp is as eco-friendly as you can possibly get with as much luxury as you can get way out in the wilderness. The photographic opportunities are endless, so make sure your batteries are fully charged and perhaps carry spares as you will need them. There are charging facilities available in the main central complex, but the generators are only run during the day when guests are usually out on game activities. We were there in October, possibly the hottest and driest time of the year. The river level had dropped but sightings included fish eagles, yellow billed kites, carmine bee-eaters, wild dog, leopard, elephant, ele babies, lion, hippo, herds of buffalo coming down to drink at the river, and on the sand banks which were now covered with “grass, all the grazers - water buck, warthog, impala in numbers and majestic kudu resting in the shade on the fringes of the woodland. The staff are most welcoming, friendly and professional and the food is terrific.

The luxury tents with views over the Zambezi River and the Zambian escarpment in the distance certainly deliver, with inside and outside showers and the secluded bath with a view is just divine! Mesh walls give you that inside/outside feeling. The camp is not fenced or wired, so elephants can get really close, and lion tend to come through at night which makes for evenings you will never forget! Exciting activities are offered, such as guided walks in big game territory, game drives including: Night drives - open safari vehicle with a spotlight to see the nocturnal animals come out and, tiger fishing, canoeing and sundowners on pontoon boats out on the river - sheer bliss! Access: Access to this remote park is by air charter and 4x4 only. By road about 5/6hrs from Harare - you will be met at Harare International airport and whisked away or a private air charter from either Harare or Kariba to an airstrip which is where your adventure begins with a 20 min game drive to the camp. There are no shops and mobile phone network coverage is very limited. Accommodation is restricted to a handful of safari lodges, and eco-friendly tented or mobile camps as well as self-catering Parks chalets. Camping on the banks of the Zambezi River is a feature of the Mana experience. Entry to the park is strictly controlled by the National Parks Authority and prior booking is essential, either through an agent or operator or through the Authority itself. Mana will enthral and seduce you and take your breath away the moment you arrive! Surrender is oh so sweet! Aneis de Vida

DARK PASSAGES

Who am I, is a question I relentlessly ask.

Aneis de Vida

35

June 2015

Who am I, is a question I relentlessly ask. Not the “I” embodied through the many varied roles we fulfil and as it is defined by society, but who am I really? Who is the soul inhabiting this body? Well, the answer remains elusive and it paves the very road I walk on. I am as Rainer Maria Rilke says: “living the questions towards the answers”. In every experience we encounter a glimpse into the soul of the body we inhabit. “We meet ourselves time and again in a thousand disguises on the paths of life.” (Carl Gustav Jung). But there is certainly no better space and place than “THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL” to illuminate the way towards the answer to that question.

These dark nights are the unavoidable passages on the journey. It is there, in the physical, earthly, shameful, painful, fearful and lost spaces of our human experience that the soul is waiting to be encountered. We enter the ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ alone. It is uncertain, uncomfortable, and painful, we are vulnerable, trapped in fear, regret, sadness, despair and a state of shock or trauma. It is very dark where we are. Of course we want to escape from this darkness, but therein lie the paradox: “Suffering and liberation from suffering is one and the same thing.” (Dr. James Finley). Surrendering to the dark is the doorway into healing.

In order to grow and become whole again, we must first pass THROUGH the ‘DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL’. It is the passage to liberation. It is here where the external can only hold a space for the compass needle points inwards and deeper down into darkness. We are still a good few soul-miles away from uncovering the wisdom of the experience. It is here in this moment in front of us that it awaits….an invitation…an invitation to deepen our relationship to and with the Soul.

SHEDDING SKIN SoulSkin is not any kind of skin it is the skin beneath the skin not just covering

LaLi playing hide and seek…Jukani

SoulSkin is the skin of everything and nothing we know for certain Uncovering soulskin one must meticulously strip the knowing the holding the attaching the defining of all these things that make up a human story

revealing interesting spots & stripes the fingerprint of its belonging One of Dr. James Hollis’ (a phenomenal writer in Jungian psychology) clients once asked: “When I come to a crossroads, how do I know which one is the right path to choose?” He replied: “You choose the one you feel will deepen your Soul.” The dark passages are certainly not the easiest to travel, it requires a Lionheart….because we need to confront our deepest human fears, strip the illusions and everything that isn’t authentic, expose the soul and face the dark alone. If we did this willing and by choice it would be much easier, but as Caroline Myss says: “sometimes we’ve got to be traumatized on the outside, lose something we believed in, in order to switch on, on the inside….Trauma is something that happened to you that your reason can’t comprehend.”

Life inevitably brings us closer to that which awakens the Soul, calling us out of fragmentation. Pain and vulnerability are the unfortunate prerequisites to healing, growth and Wholeness. “Trauma and transformation are partners, the alchemy of our time. It is a Mystical challenge within a healing one.” (Caroline Myss). We are all on a ‘coming home project’… returning to the authentic seat of our souls. There is an immeasurable wealth of wisdom in suffering. The original Greek meaning of the word authentic refers to ‘the mark of our hands’, in other words, the ability to show up in every moment as we truly are. An authentic person does not hide the flaws, cracks and wounds in their humanness. It is in fact these cracks that allow for the light and healing to enter the heart.

SoulSkin’s quantity is larger than the outer skin’s capacity too small it will become for soul’s velocity and vitality

Shedding skin is a humbling sobriety as we tend to love the scales we call our identity

We will perhaps need someone to walk alongside and to hold our hand, whilst we plunge deeper into the darkness. The kind of help to strengthen our core, help us heal and make peace with ourselves. The trauma must be worked through, dissolved and released. Emotions are physical, they live inside the body. Emotions enter/originate and leave from the body. Whoever and whatever we choose must be willing to travel this difficult journey with us. But most importantly we must meet ourselves in our own suffering with an open heart. Keep our hearts open enough to honour the journey.

We become quite attached and comfortable in the skin we think fits us nicely

In the outer skin our roles and our worth form some kind of symbiosis

distorting soul’s infinite resilience The dark passages do lead somewhere and at the end of each awaits a doorway to a deeper, fuller, richer and more authentic way of being. Mark Nepo said: “To journey to be transformed by the journey is to be a pilgrim. To live with meaning, we need to look at what closes our heart and move towards that which opens it; look at what distracts us from what is important and move towards that; that which keeps us unconscious, ‘asleep’ and move towards that which awakens us to consciousness.”

It doesn’t matter what the outcome of this process is, the most important outcome is our relationship to our soul and its authentic expression. Even if we lose everything, people reject us; we must not reject or abandon ourselves. The Soul Journey is the question and the answer. It is true, that we as humans have to take accountability, ownership and responsibility for our lives on this earth, but the journey is complex and exact answers often elude. As long as we journey, we will find the gifts of wisdom along the way. “Like a wild animal, the soul is tough, resilient, resourceful, savvy, and self-sufficient: it knows how to survive in hard places. I learned about these qualities during my bouts with depression. In that deadly darkness, the faculties I had always depended on collapsed. My intellect was useless; my emotions were dead; my will was impotent; my ego was shattered. But from time to time, deep in the thickets of my inner wilderness, I could sense the presence of something that knew how to stay alive even when the rest of me wanted to die. That something was my tough and tenacious soul.” ~ Parker J. Palmer: A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life

My wish for you is that you eventually reach a place of healing, integration, peace, acceptance and freedom.

The Face of Faith

weaving soul threads

To the pain surrendered

A Poem by Bea Potgieter

The sun poured and poured into me

body stretched

draining every word I spoke

across a slab of cold stone

my tongue went quiet

sharp-edged words

of seasonal dimension

my lips parched

raining down from the nimbus overhead

my feet fell on the ground

thirsting for every drop

determined to separate

that made up the foundation

of liquid inspiration

the heart from love

of a journey taking shape

I stumbled

and plant rotten seeds instead

in a mystical direction

unto the shore

The shadowed creatures

I walked and walked

of nothingness

drunk on power

until my feet bled

kneeled down at the edge of the abyss

smelled the pungent scent

the red coloured stains

a cloak of darkness fell down

of fear and defeat

filled my head

heaviness

thirstily waited to drink the last breath

poured and poured

pulled my shoulders to the ground

In silence of silence

sheets of paper hungrily ate

my hands stuck in words of driftsand

complete emptiness

what it was fed

naked humbleness

the voice of love softly spoke

of surrendered flesh

the rays of the sun woke

I picked up stones

I could write no more

the song unsung

and rubbed the words

the stars I begged

the dance yet to be danced

smooth it laid

to send me more

the living unfinished

on my skin

silence I met

and so the bells of a new day was rung

heavy as lead

a lonely echo

splendid the simple beauty

it sunk into my pores

what was all this effort for

of the face of faith turned to the sun

and found its way into my pen

if there is nothing left

I touched wildflowers

If nothing but death of hope

swaying in the wind

in a world filled with love forlorn

they spilled their petals

what to make of human life

on sheets of paper white

picked up by the wind

dancing free and wild

and strewn across the barren floor

Through the landscapes

You are never really aware of me. I flow like a curtain of liquid air around you. Ever so gently, I tease you into thinking That it is your impulse Driving the pace and direction of your movement. But in truth you are deceived. It is only because I allow it That you are able to interact in the world. I support you constantly. You do not realize the extent of your Dependence on me. It may be that I seem to have no substance But if you consider that all your Awareness comes from inside you, How can you possibly be privy to What the outside feels about you? You underestimate my strength. You have no concept of my substance. You have not thought to consider The part that I play and the force that I exert In your life. You measure many things. But, by its very sophisticated mechanism, Your mind is limited in its perception. It is therefore impossible to broaden Its perspective enough to allow it To include illusionary force fields Into its equations. Thus you will just have to take my word for it That you are my prisoner. And it is only the limitations of your own mind Which, in blinding you to the truth, Allow you to comfortably believe That you are in control of your own actions.

GARDENING Succulents, Aloes and Grasses By

Andre Duif Think about those three. Strong, linear, subdued colours, architectural lines, frilly, fat, thin, long, green, red, brown, grey....the list goes on. It is so exciting to see our garden designs take shape, with strong architectural influence, and clean lines. Architecture has evolved into the garden as it were, and gardens are starting to follow the architecture of the building it surrounds. How exciting to see such a shift in our thinking of beauty and how we translate it into our gardens and surroundings. Traditional gardens are still pretty much the norm, and are magnificent, but it seems that in today’s world, everything new transcends into something where we have to think about the design, or almost, as if the design is telling us a story. The architecture and the garden become one entity, the Zen, the calming force in our workplace or modern home. Space is also becoming an issue, and what do we do? We go vertical. Vertical space is everywhere and is fast becoming a trend worldwide. Hotels, office blocks, hospitals, homes, shopping centres, are all looking at this option. I know I am waffling a bit, but go and think about this. Why is this trend taking shape so fast? The Zen garden, the modern clean linear garden, the vertical garden. Aneis de Vida

In my mind, they are all water wise, water friendly if you like. Only 2,5% of all water on earth is useable for human consumption, and agriculture. Frightening but true. We need to look after our water sources. Anyway back to what I REALLY wanted to touch on. Here are a few ideas in the accompanying pictures of how I used the following plants in strong, clean lines and form.

Grasses, with their slender forms, brush in the wind, galloping waves of tufts over a windy field. How beautiful. It has only been about 10 years since we started seeing grasses in all sorts of colours and varieties in nurseries country wide. Some of them wild, some of them cultivated for form, structure, colour, and longevity in our gardens.

Aloes, not seen As much in the northern hemisphere, but a beautiful alternative for an easy low maintenance garden. Strong in design they look best in groups of three or five, with a minimalist treatment on ground level. Either sand, pebbles, feature rocks and pots or bark makes for a spectacular picture. Driving through the Natal midlands, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa today, we could see an aloe here and there brave enough to show its winter colours, with the main show to come towards mid-June through to August , the midlands are just spectacular with their fiery orange and red flowers. Succulents, are all the rage at the moment, hues of greens, greys, and browns, make for a beautiful show year round. They are easy to maintain, and need a once weekly watering. When planting succulent bowls, pots or beds, make sure there is ample drainage below as they hate wet feet. There is a myriad of succulents available on the market these days. Go out there buy a pot or two and make up a beautiful arrangement for you to enjoy all year round.

OUR WORLD IS CHANGING By Deborah Sutherland “Our world is changing”. We hear that all the time but do we ever stop and reflect on the statement? Do we truly, honestly realise to the extent of the changes that have occurred over the past 40 years? Do we know what the implications of these changes have on our lives? Do we know to what extent these changes impact on our planet? The other question we could ask is, “Do we want to know?” This is a good time to take a short walk down memory lane to tweak a gentle reminder.

The time line of the telephone is one example we can all relate to. From telephone party lines to instant online connections we are now in the electronic age. What about food? I remember pantries and cupboards filled with preserves and fresh foods. When bottled preserved foods were exchanged for canned foods it wasn’t because they were trying to ‘feed the masses’. The food companies were selling convenience. The, Farmers were important people in communities. Without their dedication and love for the land, we would not have healthy food. Today we have a major fight on our hands to have genetically altered foods labeled so that we can make intelligent decisions about the quality food we want to put in our bodies. Precious farm land and forests are being destroyed in the name of over-population. Pharmaceutical drugs have more side effects that are causing more damage to the human mind and body than we can comprehend. Our rights continuously get eroded by institutions that are slowly disempowering us. Who we thought had our best interest at heart has become questionable. Who do we trust, what information is true, who do we believe……… my word, are we being bombarded from every conceivable direction?

It was at this point that I decided some life changes were necessary in order to keep some semblance of order in my continued walk on this life journey. So how do we learn to un-plug from the pressures that call us to work ever harder, to consume more, to get bigger, better, latest technology, a pill fixes every ill and to keep taking the short cuts at every possible opportunity?

I look to nature for my answers. There are always practical, logical steps involved. There is a rhythm and cycle to everything that occurs and no short cuts are involved. That would be upsetting the balance. Plant a seed, you get a plant. Plant a seed that bares fruit, you get to eat. My body; I have a choice. Put healthy, clean, fresh foods in it and all the mechanism’s work appropriately. Yes, there is wear and tear involved; I need to slow down. I could consume artificial foods, genetically modified foods, (actually

Aneis de Vida

the list is so long that I could simply say, adulterated foods) but then that would mean having to manage chronic illnesses, take drugs to manage the illness and then possibly have more drugs to counter affect those that I would be told would ‘fix’ the problem. While I am busy doing that, the hard earned money I have worked for, gets whittled away back into the very hands that helped to create the illusion.

My answer to finding my peace and joy with a practical slant to it (I wanted clean food) was to plant a food garden. The effect of this decision has been life changing and I share some of these benefits with you;

INTRODUCTION

I am passionate about our food garden, in-door kitchen (which mostly is like a micro-laboratory) fermenting foods and beverages and making delicious, living foods from all the gorgeous produce that comes my way and before I forget to say.... my name is... Deborah Sutherland... and some will know Sprout It which is a company I started over 4 years ago sharing good foods and living practices.

22 Minerva Drive, Gillitts, KZN Hello, For the past few months I have been off the radar whilst setting up our Homestead Urban Living Centre. With the help and guidance of treasured friends, I feel ready to begin a new journey of sharing what I have gathered over the years. This is an exciting time for me as it has been many years of quiet dedication to bring my dream into reality. For all of us, our present reality is that our food chain is not what we knew it to be. We are facing very clear decisions about our life style choices. I have practiced, effectively, how to live with abundance from my garden, my kitchen and to experience the effects thereof in my life. Abundant health does not mean you have to be wealthy to have good health. This is a falsehood that I have proved over and over again. When you understand the principles behind Living Foods, your costs are ridiculously small. At our Centre, we will share with you how you can bring these practices into your homes. The original gardens are now a year old and through this time there has been much learning and much more to follow. We will share our failures and our success's, our dreams and aspirations as we steadily move on wards and upwards.

Who are we? Matthew Prosser and Deborah Sutherland ( Sprout It) are two people that are passionate about the permaculture way of living, slow foods and being part of the solution to sustainable, responsible living practices. We are both studying a diploma course in Naturopathy. These studies enhance our beliefs that food is more than nutrition but also our medicine. Deborah has studied the Permeculture Design Course (PDC) with of Ezio (Buzz) Gori and has run work shops, nutritional support and guidance in digestive health, is a fermenteer of food and beverages and runs Sprout It; an outlet for these foods and beverages. Matthew is a fine example of how changing life style habits can improve the quality of life as well as a hands on creator of our permaculture gardens.

What do we stand for? We are part of a massive global movement to change our relationship to food and resources through education and by living examples of the practices that we share.

What are we promoting? Retreats- learning through hands on activities as in gardening, both in-door and out-door kitchen gardens, harvesting, forag-

ing, restoring, improving, tasting, observing, learning, planned meals and spontaneous collaborations. Day work shops on how to create health practices that you can bring into your home that will enrich all aspects of living.

What you need to know about ankle sprains To properly treat an ankle sprain it must be determined that the ankle is indeed sprained, and this requires an understanding of What is an ankle sprain?

An ankle sprain is a common injury and usually results when the ankle is twisted or turned (inverted). The term sprain signifies injury to the soft tissues (usually ligaments) of the ankle. What is a ligament? It is a tough band of tissue that helps connect bones together. The specific ankle ligaments that are affected are the anterior talofibular, posterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments. The inward movement of the ankle results in a stretching and tearing of the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments. These two ligaments prevent the ankle moving forward or inwards.

Degrees of ankle sprains A minor sprain is an over-stretch of the ligament/s and tenderness will result. Next would be a partial tear of the ligament/s which can result in minimal bruising and swelling. The last degree is a complete tear of one or more ligaments which will result in an inability to place weight on the ankle as well as acute bruising and swelling.

Aneis de Vida

59

June 2015

There is a condition which is the most severe form of an ankle sprain which is called ankle syndesmosis and it involves damage to the other supporting ligaments of the ankle and leg (shin area). This injury takes very long to heal. Symptoms Swelling, pain and bruising is to be expected. Swelling is a result of ruptured blood vessels and most of the initial swelling is blood leaking into the surrounding tissues. Continued swelling is a result of lymphatic fluid collecting in the area. Treatment Protection of the ankle via a brace or bandages while the ligaments heal. Resting of the injured ankle is very important. Ice can be placed on the ankle to decrease swelling and speed up healing. Compression on the ankle must be applied as soon as possible to decrease swelling. Elevate the ankle to reduce swelling. Exercise the ankle once it has healed to prevent repeated injury. Lately I’ve had one of those soul searching questions rattling around in my head, “When is enough, enough?” Whenever these types of questions pop up in my life, I always look to the same two sources for the answers. First I turn to nature and quietly pay attention to her many worlds, by observing their interactions with one another. I will sit and watch the behaviours and mannerisms of the birds and the insects. I will listen for whispers of wisdom from the grass, flowers and trees. I will feel the power of the wind, sense the vibrating rhythms of the earth and connect to the expansive radiance of the sun. When I listen to nature for answers, I know there will be no lies. Nature will always reveal itself openly and honestly displaying all life in an elegantly chaotic dance of harmony, respect and balance. Next I look within, using as much self-awareness and selfhonesty as I can hold and ask the same question. At first I must wade my way through reactionary answers like, “it’s never enough”, “not until I’m full”, or “not until I feel safe and comfortable”. I find these types of answers only reflect my insatiable, unaware side and the insanity of repeatedly seeking satisfaction from unsatisfying pursuits. We all suffer from the same madness. It emanates from the inherent primal need for sur Aneis de Vida

vival and to make sure there is always more than enough. Admittedly I recognize a sense of entitlement within myself that gives me permission to wilfully horde, take, accumulate and stockpile as much as possible from wherever it can be found. This is a common human behaviour which has forged the foundation of a society; self-importantly driven to greedily over consume without any forethought of the outcome, impact or consequences. It has manifested in such appalling ways as the raping of natural resources, genetically modifying nature and extinguishing entire species of life. Continuing along this road will only lead to an even more horrific altering of our natural environment, more dissatisfaction, pain and suffering for humanity and inevitably our own self-extinction. It is critical for us to wake up and make the effort to start paying attention to the consequences of our actions in the pursuit of feeling safe and comfortable. The only solution to this “human condition” is to focus on increasing our selfawareness and the disciplining of ourselves to live with more mindfulness. I’m not advocating the forming of yet another group intent on saving the planet, what I am in support of is for each person to save themselves from their own mindless gluttony by asking and looking for honest answers to the question “When is enough, enough?” It can be phrased in many countless ways like, “How much food do I actually need to eat in order to live?” “How big a house do I really need to give me shelter and comfort?” “How many clothes do I truly need to stay warm and protected?”

Every part of nature is a member of a huge family sharing and feasting equally in an endless bounty. The flowers don’t try to soak up more sun than their neighbours and the sun doesn’t shine more brightly on one flower over another. The birds only build nests that suit their needs and don’t stockpile materials for future nests. These examples help me to see how my fear of not having enough shows up whenever I’m disconnected from nature’s abundance which breeds doubt, insecurity and a mistrust that I will have access to whatever I really need when I need it. By continuing to challenge myself with these questions I have not only developed more self-awareness about my real needs, I have also been able to touch and heal the deeper emotionally driven fear to acquire more than I really need in order to feel safe and comfortable. I have noticed little changes in my life, like not eating as much by overfilling my plate, catching myself before buying something impulsively and a deeper appreciation for all the abundance I already have in my life. I am also discovering creative new uses for things I would normally throw away without a secondy need to give me shelter and comfort?” “How many clothes do I truly need to stay warm and protected?” Aneis de Vida

thought. What I’m practising in my life isn’t anything new, it’s simply a conscious shift in awareness by paying attention to what I’m doing in each moment, asking myself why I’m doing it and listening to the answers. What I have gained from this is a greater awareness of what drives my impulses, higher levels of self-honesty and most importantly learning how to satisfy my real needs. Nature is teaching us that there is enough of everything in abundance to support the needs of her entire family including humans. Nature’s ultimate challenge to humans is to sit at her banquet table as an equal member of her family relinquishing the need to be the greedy relative who gluttonously devours most of the food at the family meal. In sharing my thoughts and concerns, I am aware that this topic goes much deeper and deserves more exploration. My intent is to stir the pot and spark others to start looking for honest answers to “When is enough, enough?” My hope is for each individual to live in a state of self governance, self responsibility and self accountability as we each pursue a more naturally satisfying, enriching and fulfilling life in harmony with all the precious worlds of Grandmother Earth.

I have been so grateful recently for the internet. When I think about it, it is really a wonderful thing that I can be here in smalltown Malaysian Borneo and still be in touch with my friends all around the world through various social media platforms. I got my first email address when I first left home in 1993, but that was long before the man in the street could afford personal computers. I would go for months on end not talking to my mother, and then calculating the costs so carefully before calling her from Taipei on her birthday and Christmas. Some days I really wish she was still alive to experience life as it is now, with such fast and easy communication systems. It is however a real blessing to have all the letters she wrote me through the years; something tangible I can hold, to see her handwriting, to hear her voice in my head. I asked myself, how many of my friends’ handwriting would I actually still recognise today? I have been going down memory lane in the last few weeks, as I decided it was time to go through my two email accounts and tidy things up, delete and re-organise. Just as it is important to declutter the drawers and cupboards, it is important to me to get rid of all the mail that accumulates, as it also feels like a weight. The same rules apply as for general decluttering, if it is not useful or joyful, delete it. There have been a lot of smiles and a lot of tears; and I feel a lot lighter for it. In this process, I had a very interesting conversation from a good friend, fellow-healer and mentor in Lebanon. He reminded me of the Zen story of the Chinese farmer. Aneis de Vida

They came around and commiserated, “Poor you, how difficult, no more horse to help you with the work on the farm.” The farmer listened and replied, “Bad luck, good luck, who know?” Not long after the disappearance, the farmer woke up one morning to find that his horse, a mare, had shown up again, and had brought two stallions with her. As soon as the neighbours heard the news, they came around to congratulate the farmer. “How excellent for you, you are now a rich man, what good luck!” The farmer listened and replied, “Bad luck, good luck, who know?” A few days later, the farmer’s only son was trying to tame one of the stallions. He was thrown off the horse and broke his leg. Once again the neighbours came to the farmer to sympathise, “Ooooh dear, no one to help you on the farm now, what truly bad luck!” The farmer listened, and once more he said, "Bad luck, good luck. Who knows?" The very next day, the emperor's army rode into the town and conscripted the eldest son in every family. Only the farmer's son with his broken leg was allowed to stay behind.. Soon the neighbours arrived again. "Yours is the only son who was not taken from his family and sent to war. What good luck you have had..." I really liked this story. I reminded me that every time I cried or smiled going through my inbox, I was just putting a value, a label, on the message. I think we all tend to do this a lot in life. We are brought up to have strong opinions about things and almost hang our very identities, the fabric of who we are, on our likes and dislikes. Our relationships are also based on having similar tastes, on agreeing with each other. We go around the world putting labels on everything and everyone, including ourselves. I was happy to be reminded that the universe is all just energy; we limit our own worlds by making everything positive and negative- agree or disagree. I have realised that by deciding certain things about myself and others, I truly limit my own ability to grow and expand, as well as the ability of the people around me. It is so liberating to take a much broader, cosmic view and avoid having fixed opinions, as we actually have no clue how things are going to play out in the end. Isn’t it far more liberating to play the game of infinite possibilities? We do not have to base our choices on labels and opinions. We were all born wise beings and have been given our gut level intuition to help us make choices. And besides, choices are not set in stone, they can be changed at every step. I really enjoy the comedian Eddie Izzard. He does an excellent skit about soundtracks of horror movies. Why do the naïve campers decide to go for a midnight walk in the forest; did they not hear the really eerie soundtrack? Doesn’t it make much more sense to take a step in the direction of the happy tunes and NOT towards the ominous threatening music? My contract in Malaysia is coming to an end in September. My monkey mind is already driving me crazy, “Where to? When? What about my stuff? Storage? My cats?” My head wants me to make a plan, a clear course of action. My head wants everything to be neatly tucked away in compartments, ordered, sensible, labelled and under control. However, my intuition is saying, “Trust the flow, the answers will come, there are infinite possibilities”. I love just this simple little test. Hold the issue, however small, in your heart and ask yourself, “Does this make you feel lighter, more expansive? Or heavier, upset?” I have these words on my wall where I can see them every day. A very good reminder.

If it does not feel good and expansive, it is not for you. Your soul knows what the truth is for you and it will tell you.

“Greeting and Salutation my dear children of the Light, it is I Uriel. I come to speaketh to thee this day on the creating of thine new selves, thine new lives as we go forward after the life storms have calmed and eased. The energies being sent to thee Earth Plane at this time, bring to thee all a healing balm of peacefulness, calm and divine Love. I ask of thee all to take time in the days ahead to focus upon what it is thee all want in thine life, leave nothing out, design, paint and create the canvas of thine life in ways that bring thee joy and happiness. Put down thine dreams, thine goals and desires, and once this is done, each and every human day, tell thee Almighty God and the beings of light that walk with thee, what these dreams, goals and desires are, so we can assist thee in all ways to manifest each and everyone into thine life. Do not play small, paint thine canvas with bright, bold, courageous colours, and remember my dear ones, aim thine arrows of intent high, because thee can go no further than thine belief in self and in thine dreams and goals. I also ask of thee all, to spend time in healing silence, to heal all that has come to pass, so thoust can be renewed and made whole again.

From my soul light to thousts, I bring great blessings and love from thee Almighty God. I am thee Archangel Uriel.

If you read the paper, listen to the news, chat to so called friends, gossip, or just over hear conversations, you will find a common thread in today’s society. The rundown syndrome, the blame game, the bullying society, the ego squashes. In today’s world of shadows and darkness, where the majority are feeling insecure, greed, power and glory are the order of the day for those living this way of life. Making themselves be the haves rather than the have nots, unfortunately they have nothing Aneis de Vida

if they live within the shadows of thought and heart. They will always be left wanting more. The have nots on the other hand are of 2 kinds, those who don’t care much, and those that strive to be part of the elite by any means they can. As a guide, a light worker, a follower of the Universal ways, I would suggest, 1. Why feel the need to judge oneself by what others have or don’t have. You are fine just as you are, and once you start believing that you will not want what you really don’t need. 2. Do not help others in need by giving them things they can do for themselves. The hardest part of being a guide, is just that, Guiding, and not doing. Suggesting and not deciding Showing and not doing Advising and not telling There are consequences for every decision. You can enable, help, do, decide for others, but this will not help them, only diminish their belief in themselves and they will end up always looking to you or others that walk a similar path to do for them. You cannot fight others battles without or within, you can only prolong the agony within them and in turn make them unable to stand and work through the battle they fight, whether it be poverty, illness, emotional dis ease, or lack of any kind. Be wise, not judgmental, be strong enough to say NO, time for you to fight this battle Be gentle and understanding, be powerful by your absence Be a true guide in these times, show, advise, suggest, but do not DO for others what they can do for themselves given half the chance. With love and light always Atenar

The fairies know that you are concerned about the outcome of this situation, so you have sent this card to you as reassurance that everything is working out in a divinely perfect way. Take steps to uplift your outlook and unburden your heart and mind, such as taking a nature walk, spending time with loved ones. The more you can stay centred and filled with faith the better the outcome you will experience.

Last time we left DeeDee with her new borns, and what a good mommy DeeDee is to the Babies. Mrs Jen was so thrilled watching the puppies grow bigger and stronger every day. Mrs Jen wanted the whole Barnyard to help name the puppies. How to do this?

At the Barnyard every life is cherished, all life celebrated. Then an idea struck Mrs Jen, a big party for DeeDee and the puppies. Mrs Jen called John to ask him to deliver the invitations for the party to be held on the next Saturday. John took the big carry bag of invitations and started walking down the hill to where the residents of Barnyard lived.

He came across Mama Piglet. “How are you today Mrs Piglet” asked John Mrs Piglet was quite flustered, she had been chasing after the Chickens - Screech, Skawk, Youthere, Notahawk and Gottagawk as that was what they were doing! Screeching, Skawking, making such a noise! So she had shouted “You there! Yes! Youthere! Take Notahawk along with Gottagawk including the squawking screeching Screech & Skawk and get back to your Mum! Now! Can’t you see I am trying to tidy up and want peace and quiet to work in?

“My Dear Boy John, thank you for asking, yes I am quite well” as we all know, pigs are not only intelligent, are also very curious, and she was eyeing the carry bag John had in his hand. “How are you Dear John”? As she came sniffing at the bag to see if any nice treats were inside. John realised he had the

invitations to the party for DeeDee inside, so he looked for Mrs Piglet’s name. Finding it he carefully tried to hand it to her. Realising that Mrs Piglet didn’t have hands, he asked if he could open the invite to the party for her. “Party”? Then she squealed with delight. A party! Mrs Piglet was so excited she jumped up and down and even gave John a kiss on his cheek. Mrs Piglet rushed inside to start planning what necklace she would wear to the party.

John had to giggle, Mrs Piglet was the sweetest, kindest Pig and such a pleasure it was to be watching her excitement.

John continued delivering the invites, and came across Betsy, Jetsy and the ‘gang’ and called out to them that their parents had received invitations to the party for DeeDee and her puppies. John was asked so many questions, why a party? Who all would be at the party? Would there be cakes? Any outsiders coming to the party? What time would the party begin?

John was so dizzy from all the questions flying at him he had to sit down in the shade to gather his thoughts. Him Mum, Mrs Jen was so thrilled that the puppies were thriving and DeeDee was such a lovely mommy. Mrs Jen needed to give the puppies names and wanted everyone at the Barnyard to help with the naming of the puppies. John said he didn’t know what food would be on the tables at the party. Nor did he know whom else would be coming. So John got his pad and pen from his pocket and asked the ‘gang’ to slowly ask their questions, and ask them one at a time. John wrote everything down in his little pad and promised he would get the answers to them the next day.

John said he still had to take invitations to the Donkey Mr Dingledon, the Zebra Stripey and to the Elephant Shewhobefree, sadly the Tiger King Stripey or the Lion Jungle King nor the Hippo Pottymus or the Rhino Scaryface, or the Hyena Totalops or even the Vulture Eatiall would be invited due to them being in the Sanctuary side where they had special enclosures to live in. The Monkeys Minkywoo and Butterboo or the Chimp Chitterbox would be able to go to the party. Unfortunately Monkeys are very disruptive (not having proper manners) and the Chimp was not properly socialised since being released from the Laboratory. John realised he still had to deliver the last invite to the Wolf Alaska Wild, a Gray Timber Wolf that was rescued when he was 3 months old, a very shy though very inquisitive Wolf. When John finished delivering the invitations he had to rush back to his Mum, Mrs Jen and let her know the invites had the whole Barnyard was so excited, so he sat on the stool, carefully removed the pad along with the pen and asked Mrs Jen the many questions from the gang about the party.

Mrs Jen had to chuckle, “too late” she replied, the gang had already called round to the house with their myriad of questions. Plus, “they wanted to know if there was a prize for guessing the correct names” to which I told them no. Everyone would be asked to think of good names for the puppies. A unique name that would fit their personalities and them in the future.

“My goodness” said Mrs Jen, “the ‘gang’ wanted to help with the cakes and puddings for the party”. So Mrs Jen had explained that as the food and treats were a surprise for all the ‘residents’ at the Barnyard, she would ask the Volunteers at the Shelters to come and help, then they could also stay for the party and meet all the residents at the Barnyard, having a tour of those whom wouldn’t be able to come to the party. That everyone coming to help could spend a peaceful though busy day in the country side, make new friends and enjoy the party as well.

Betsy, Jetsy and the ‘gang’ were so excited they went to the river bank to make a list of what they thought would be on the menu Mrs Jen and the volunteers would be making. Would they be able to sneak up to the doorway and windows to have a peek to be the first to see what would be served? They were so caught up in talking and guessing what foods and fruits would be served, who would come, they didn’t realise the sun was setting. The main rule at the Barnyard is that all must be home before the sun set.

Farmer Ben was walking Misty back to the house when he spotted the gang. He winked at Misty and asked her to give the ‘gang’ a fright. Misty knew the ‘gang’ were being naughty and not gone home so she sneaked up on them, doing the leopard crawl up Aneis de Vida

to them, as she got near, she readied herself, then leapt up with a ferocious growl then a loud bark. Farmer John had to laugh at the squealing, crying, squeaking lot as they did get such a fright.

“Time to get yourselves home ‘gang’!” said Farmer Ben. Misty galloped alongside the ‘gang’ as they set off home. She stopped when she saw their homes come into view, then stood watching till they were all safely inside their little yards and inside their homes. Misty ran back to Farmer Ben and asked him “what do you think they were talking about?” “They were so excited and talking about different puddings and cakes”, Farmer Ben said not to worry they would find out as soon as they saw Mrs Jen.

Can you guess the names the puppies will eventually have? Till next month when the names will be revealed.

Buddha means the ‘Awakened’ or the ‘Enlightened One’. Siddhartha Gautama was a Prince, heir to the throne. He married at 16, yet despite all this, he felt trapped amidst the luxury and opulence. He realised that life is subject to old age and death. He also realised that worldly possessions cannot bring the ultimate happiness that people crave. Siddhartha renounced all his worldly possessions, unprecedented in history. Leaving with just the robe he had on, taking refuge in caves and the forest, on his search for the truth.

Six years he lived this way, fasting, spending time in meditation, torturing his body to free his mind. The path to self-enlightenment.

The Buddha became the embodiment of all the virtues that he preached. He had a successful ministry for 45 years. Buddha translated all is words into actions. He felt that religion was not a contractual agreement between a divinity and man, rather a way to enlightenment.
