April 2015

Greetings to all across the globe.

May is here and the winter chill is in the air, even here in Durban. In April ADV launched a Help Line which is at this moment in time only available via our Facebook page, the need exists and the response has been amazing. Andre has added something of a different flair for this month with regards to gardening ideas, and am sure for you avid gardeners it will be an interesting read. Andre can definitely be counted on to make gardening not just interesting but loads of fun. The beginning of May will see Aneis de Vida attending the Tourism Indaba here in Durban and am looking forward to being a part of this experience. In saying that Bronwyn Grey - Exceptional African Safari’s has written another brilliant piece on Zimbabwe—a Soul Destination on the African Continent. Yes, Zimbabwe is in the spotlight regarding the elephants, sadly that is Africa —governments in Africa generally do not feel the need to protect our wildlife for the generations to come. However, it will not change even if tourism were to plummet, therefore I decided when the first article was published that featuring Zimbabwe is still worthwhile and is an amazing country with fantastic experiences to be had and savoured in ones very soul. An absolutely riveting interview with the amazing Karina Collins had me doubling over with laugher —what an amazing soul she is—definitely not your run of the mill psychic. Beauty and brains are very dominant factors, and Karina is truly a breath of fresh air. Tracy White has added a new dimension to her BBA (Body Balance Activation) healing—I was lucky enough to be asked to be a guinea pig, as she has added a 5th level to BBA — I admit, I was rather sceptical at first as to what this may very well bring. Honestly I have to say that I was surprised and am in awe as to what the results were that followed. Unfortunately she doesn’t feel it can be offered via skype—however, should enough people in one country or province in South Africa be willing to host her she would be willing to travel to bring her new healing modality to you. If you are interested contact Tracy, details on her advert. In this month in many parts of the world we pay tribute to. So from one mother to all other Mothers— HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! May you be remembered and treasured always. Last but not least, if you have not reached your goals, gift yourself an experience of a lifetime by joining Aneis de Vida in Brazil later this year. You are worthy of becoming powerful, the key is simple, and ADV will bring along the people and those who know how to help you unlock your Inner Power. On that note, I hope you enjoy reading all the amazing articles in this months issue.

Love, light and blessings ~Tilanie~

My wife and I had words, but I didn't get to use mine. A man from Texas, driving a Volkswagen Beetle, pulls up next to a guy in a Rolls Royce at a stop sign. Their windows are open and he yells at the guy in the Rolls, "Hey, you got a phone in that Rolls?" The guy in the Rolls says, "Yes, of course I do.." "I got one too... see?" the Texan says. "Uh, huh, yes, that's very nice." "You got a GPS?" asks the Texan. "Why, actually, yes, I do." "I do too! See? Its right here!" brags the Texan. The light is just about to turn green and the guy in the Volkswagen says, "So, do you have a double bed in back there?" The guy in the Rolls replies, "NO! Do you?" "Yep, got my double bed right in back here," the Texan replies. The light turns and the man in the Volkswagen takes off. Well, the guy in the Rolls is not about to be one-upped, so he immediately goes to a customizing shop and orders them to put a double bed in back of his car. About two weeks later, the job is finally done. He picks up his car and drives all over town looking for the Volkswagen beetle with the Texas plates. Finally, he finds it parked alongside the road, so he pulls his Rolls up next to it. The windows on the Volkswagen are all fogged up and he feels somewhat awkward about it, but he gets out of his newly modified Rolls and taps on the foggy window of the Volkswagen. The man in the Volkswagen finally opens the window a crack and peeks out. The guy with the Rolls says, "Hey, remember me?" "Yeah, yeah, I remember you," replies the Texan, "What's up?" "Check this out...I got a double bed installed in my Rolls." The Texan exclaims, "YOU GOT ME OUT OF THE SHOWER TO TELL ME THAT?"

KARINA COLLINS INTERNATIONAL PSYCHIC WITH BEAUTY, BRAINS & FLAIR

By Tilanie Meierhans

TELEPATHY IS MORE ADVANCED THAN THE SPEECH OF ORDINARY MORTALS

I had the pleasure of interviewing Irish psychic Karina Collins. Humour bubbles to the surface and goodness radiates out of her whole persona, she is fascinating to listen to with the soft Irish brogue and a bubbling vibrant personality. She has an amazingly constructive, active and creative mind, always searching for more answers to more questions that seem to come forth as she pushes ahead through her life journey. Posing the question whether she has always known that she was psychic, it is refreshing to hear an answer that is not off the cuff but down to earth and honest. Karina does not feel that there is really such a thing as knowing from an early age, and that abilities heighten and diminish depending on where you are on your life journey. And she feels that you can’t really say this unless you are constantly practicing what your given gift is. Sometimes as she says, you may find you are not quite as psychic because you first need to learn certain skills to be able to better interpret spiritual paths or information. However, in saying that she has gone back into her child’s mind – she did not speak till she was about 3 years of age. Her parents actually thought she was deaf, and carted her off to various doctors to try and establish what the problem was with regards to her communication skills Her mother has pointed out though that since, she has made up for her lack of speech in the first 3 years. Karina explains the following from her perspective as she delves back into her mind as a 3 year old. She says that at that age she was confused as to being in this world, and she could not for the life of her understand this extremely unnatural way of commuAneis de Vida

nication via words that seemed to be a focus for all she came in contact with. Trying to communicate with individuals, Karina would stare at them, thinking that were she to stare long enough and hard enough they would eventually cotton onto that which she was trying to tell them. Karina paints the following picture. Her mom has made the dinner and asks her whether she would prefer to have the red or the brown ketchup bottle, and here stands young ‘’confused’’ child, staring at her mother thinking ok ‘’I am staring at her, she will get the answer any minute’’. Her brother eventually comes to her rescue and communicates on her behalf. In Karina’s mind, it seemed far easier and more natural to use telepathy versus words. As a child coming from the spirit world, into the human flesh, her connection toward the spirit world seem more real than that of a world that seemed to be very heavy and burdensome. Her best friend was a flower. She would spend hours chatting and watching her flower friend. Her flower friend was a gateway to the world she had left behind – ‘’home’’, a world which at that point in her life was more real than walking down the road on this earthly plain that she had been born into. Karina felt that the moment she uttered one single word – human words of communication, she would break a link and it would re-inforce the fact that she was ‘’earth-bound’’, a factor that she was not ready to acknowledge at that given moment in her very young life. Her thoughts were that earth was not a very nice place to be. And it was really not a matter of being in a ‘’bad’’ family because she had a wonderful family, but it really was a very confusing place to have to be. Somewhere along the line however, Karina did start speaking – luckily her connection was not broken as she feared it would be.

Every person in the world is psychic For the next part, I ask that you put your imagination into place, and export yourself back in time to when you started dating. I truly hope you have a rich and vibrant imagination because in all reality it is hysterically funny – from an outsider’s perspective of course, perhaps not for the person experiencing this with Karina at the given time. Firstly it is important to say that Karina always knew things, meaning who was doing what, when and where and this became pretty evident when she was working in the corporate world. So on the funny side – she knew who was having an affair with who (am sure if those people knew that she knew they would have had a few different thought patterns develop). She still of course did not realise that not everyone had her abilities and thought that in all reality they did get the same information as she did but were just not paying attention. Now to the funny part – her gift played havoc on her life when she started dating. Here is a picture being painted in words – she gets picked up by her date, and off they go – through the evening according to her date everything is going perfectly. What the date does not realise is that Karina is already light years ahead of him in that she has figured out how this whole relationship is going to pan out and how it will inevitably end. So in theory there are two conversations going on at the exact same time. Come the end of the first date, the dear man says something in the context of ‘’this was great, when can we see each other again’’. Karina has to say – ‘’oh no it is not going to go to a second date because I already know how our relationship will end further down the line – your mother will hate me, you will find someone else etc’’. The shock on the dates face is palpable if your imagination has been working well – and as you can imagine it did not stand Karina in good stead with regards to the dating game. It took Karina a while before she truly took on board the fact that not everyone was capable of seeing into the future with regards to relationships or the thoughts and ideas of what others are thinking. However, she is quick to point out that everyone can learn this aspect of being psychic. How very interesting to think we could all read each other’s minds without a word being uttered – only hearing the sound of nature around us. As she laughingly points out with regards to her taking a bit longer to realise not everyone is attuned the way she is, she is a late bloomer (referring laughingly to her not speaking till she was 3 years of age). It is interesting to hear Karina tell that she changed her job every two years without fail. Her background is in computers/ marketing and PR, a very solid ‘’real world’’ education, not the airy fairy that many would presume psychics to have. The reason for her doing the chopping and changing is to energise herself, to take herself out of her comfort zone into one that new energy

and new experiences come to the fore. To grow as a psychic or human for that matter you need to push forward to experience different things and therefore propelling into the ‘’new and unknown’’. As a child she attended a catholic convent – not because of any religious convictions on her parents part, more because that was just the way things were done. When asked whether her gift has been passed down, she is quick to say that she is not sure, her grandmother used to read the tea leaves, but as she points out that it is part of being Irish, there is nothing strange about people reading the leaves. Her grandfather was a Jesuit priest till before his marriage. He sadly became disillusioned with the faith. However at the age of 12 she informed him she was no longer going to attend her mass and this caused a slight fracas within the family, but seemingly it was short lived. As far as Karina is concerned being a psychic is the most natural part of her life. She knows it on a cellular level of her body. Strange as it might sound with regards to Karina’s abilities and visions, for most of her life she did not believe in the after-life. As she says ‘’just because you are psychic, it does not mean that you automatically believe in angels, spirits and an after-life’’. She had just launched herself into the psychic world as a ‘’profession’’, and along came clients who needed a medium in order to contact a departed loved one. ‘’Ooops Karina thinks – this is going to be a bit difficult because I do not believe in this part’’. This was crunch time, Karina became obsessed with the idea of finding out a way to prove something to herself. Her theory being that if she can prove it to herself she can prove it to others. Working from a sceptic’s point of view afforded her the basis to find out the facts and truth for herself. Karina maintains that being a psychic is different from being a medium, because a psychic will give someone a reading and either it is true or not. As time has unfolded she has come to prove several things to herself and others about the after-life. She does maintain though, this will be a life journey of discovery and probing until her dying day and when she gets to the other side she will probably turn around and say ‘’why did I waste my life trying to prove something this simple’’. To date she has had phenomenal experiences and even though mediumship has been learnt on her part, it has given her great satisfaction to be able to bring comfort to so many. Karina says that the spirit world is desperate to connect with us ‘’mortal’’ beings, to bring about changes so desperately needed. However, too many humans give up too quickly in their quest to connect with the spirit world. And this has become a constant disappointment to those trying to connect with us. As she grew in her abilities she felt that she needed to transform the world and prove to the sceptics of the world, only to realise this is not what it is all about. More to the point it is helping those who want to be part of these amazing life altering changes that are taking place, those who want to open themselves up to experiencing the wonders of communication with the spirit world. It was not her ‘’job’’ to prove anything to those who are too blind to see. The sceptics of the world will drain every drop of energy that you have and then there is none left to give to those in need. The Emerald with its vibrant and lush colour of green is considered to be symbolic of rebirth, love, hope and the future. St Hildegard of Bingen said that ‘’All the green of nature is concentrated within the Emerald”. Emeralds are rare gems mined mostly in Zambia, Afghanistan, Brazil and Colombia Emeralds are considered to open and heal the Heart Chakra, the centre of all is held within the heart. Due to its soothing energy it brings healing and a soothing on all levels and a renewed feeling of vitality within. These beautiful stones bring inspiration, provide patience, compassion and love, all emotional essentials. Over thousands of years emeralds have been revered by numerous and various cultures and religions. In ancient Egypt the Emerald was considered to be the stone of eternal life and was favoured by Queen Cleopatra. The ‘’name/word’’ Emerald stems from various sources: Medieval Latin – Esmeralda, Esmeraldus. From Latin – Smaragdus. From Greek – Smaragdos. Sanskrit – Marakatam, probably of Semitic origin, akin to Akkadian barraqtue and Hebrew bareqet.

Uses and Purposes Emeralds promote self-esteem, confidence, also used for restoring passion, not only in life but with regards to individual relationships and if feeling disheartened within a career choice. Emeralds bring about peace, tranquil calmness and harmony not just within self but within those around you.

Healing Uses Emeralds are considered to combat aging and re-vitalising a tired body. They have strong healing abilities and connection to the heart, and can also be used in the healing of lung issues, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys and spinal issues. Due to their amazing radiating green rays they are also very useful against malignant conditions in the body.

History. An incredible feat of engineering, rehoming displaced people and animals that would be affected by the rising flood waters, of what at the time, would become the largest man-made dam, and now is the 2nd largest, man-made dam in Africa. The Zambezi River originates from its source in north western Zambia, flows for some 2 650 kilometers bordering, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe and enters the Indian Ocean in Mozambique at Quelimane. Kariba Dam is located approximately halfway down the Zambezi River. In the 1950’s, the dam was an initiative of the British ruled Federation - Northern and Southern Rhodesia (now Zambia and Zimbabwe) and Nyasaland (Malawi). To dam the great Zambezi floodplain was a leap into the future. Vast areas of forest and scrub would be inundated. Literally thousands of wild animals would lose their habitats and, more importantly, the local villagers would have to be relocated. Analysis of the economic advantages convinced the authorities that the ultimate benefit to the people would outweigh the loss of wildlife and disturbance to people's lives. The vegetation was strip cleared and burnt, making the lake rich in chemicals from the fired wood and the considerable number of remaining trees provided an essential habitat for many creatures that would find their way into the lake. Construction of the dam wall began in the late 1950s. Over a million cubic metres of concrete was poured into the 36.6 metre high and over 24 metres thick to sustain the pressure of nearly 10 000 000 litres of water passing through the spillway each second. It took 5 years for maximum level to be reached. The Electricity Supply Commission instigated the hydroelectric scheme to be situated at Kariba. Which now supplies both Zambia and Zimbabwe with power. Kariba Dam was designed French engineer and inventor Andre Coyne. A specialist in “arch dams”, he personally designed over 55 dams, Kariba being one of them. There are only two of these dam wall constructions still standing today. Kariba being one, the other, smaller in scale, in South Africa – the Pongolapoort Dam / Lake Jozini.

Nyaminyami – The Zambezi River God. The name Kariba (Kariva – meaning trap) refers to a rock which thrust out of the swirling water at the gorge, now buried more than a hundred feet below the water surface. Myth has it that this rock was regarded as the home of the great River God Nyaminyami, who caused anyone who ventured near to be sucked down for ever into the depths of the river. When the valley people heard they were to be moved from their tribal lands and the great Zambezi River blocked, they believed it would anger the river god so much that he would cause the water to boil and destroy the white man’s bridge with floods. Aneis de Vida

22

April 2015

In 1957, a year into the building of the dam, the river rose to flood level, pumping through the gorge with immense power, destroying some equipment and the access roads. The odds against another flood occurring the following year were about a thousand to one – but flood it did – three metres higher than the previous year! This time destroying the access bridge, the coffer dam and parts of the main wall. Nyaminyami had recaptured the gorge. His waters passed over the wreckage at more than sixteen million litres a second, a flood which, it had been calculated, would only happen once in ten thousand years. Although man eventually won the battle, in December 1958 the Kariba dam was completed but at a cost of 80 peoples lives. The dam was finally opened in 1960 and there was a whole new respect for the power of the river god. Amulets depicting Nyaminyami, the Zambezi River God, are believed to offer protection both on and off the water and are sought out by adventurists and fishermen visiting the Zambezi River. Today minor earth tremors are occasionally felt in and around Kariba – baTonga African mythology believes that this is Nyaminyami trying to see his wife as he is now cut off from her by the dam wall. When he can't get through he turns around with such fury that the whole earth shakes. The displaced tribe Over fifty thousand people lived on the floodplains, mostly of the Batonga tribe, many of whom were vehemently against moving. Although land was set aside for them further up the valley, they were reluctant to leave their tribal lands and felt the move from the riverside would anger Nyaminyami. When the floods came and destroyed parts of the bridge, only served to confirm their fears. It took many months of reasoning and coaxing to convince the people that the bridge would provide power - a luxury they had no knowledge of - for the whole country. Eventually, however, having little choice they conceded and the trucks moved in to relocate them. Ceremonies were held to honour their gods and the journey to new lands began. Schools and clinics were built and wells installed for their arrival. Over the years these people have forged a new more lucrative way of life with the town of Kariba being established, employment is available within the fishing, light industrial and hospitality industries. Life is now crucially attached to the lake. Operation Noah

When the 2 sluice gates that were used to dam the Zambezi River were closed, the water rose within 24 hours the level had gone up by 6 metres and by September 1959 it had risen by 60 metres. Alarm bells rang when it was realised that the dam was creating numerous islands and even submerging some pieces of land thereby threatening the resident animal population that had largely been left behind in the Gwembe Trough even as the local tribes were being forcibly resettled.

Aneis de Vida

23

April 2015

It became evident that thousands of animals were being stranded on these islands. Appeals were made and money raised to buy boats and equipment for their rescue and relocation. The operation attracted a lot of international attention and it received international publicity and significant material aid from as far afield as the USA and the UK. The concerted drive known as Operation Noah, led by Rupert Fothergill and his team undertook the world's biggest animal rescue attempt. An epic drama unfolded as wildlife was saved from the rising waters of the new Lake and largely relocated to Matusadonha National Park and the surrounds of Lake Kariba became a fascinating turmoil of ecological change - parts of which now teem with an abundance of flora and fauna in a striking and diverse terrain. By the end of the operation the team had rescued nearly 7 000 animals. A mammoth task, beset by numerous hazards, submerged trees and stumps threatened the hulls of the boats and on the islands there were huge concentrations of snakes including the deadly black mamba. One story tells of a game ranger who climbed a tree in a swimming costume and gloves to catch a mamba with a noosed stick. Another tells of the rescue of a black rhino stranded on a small island. The animal was pursued for several hours until eventually darted with a muscle relaxing dart. Suitably sedated, the rhino was rolled on to a sledge, dragged ashore and loaded onto a raft buoyed up by eighteen petrol drums. Raft, rhino and all were then towed to the mainland some twelve miles away. An astonishing forty-four rhinos were rescued in this way. But there were many utterly tragic stories too. Countless smaller animals, reptiles and insects simply drowned. View videos of this desperate and in many ways ingenious effort to save the wildlife of the Zambezi flood plain. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jfNOrqWwr8 , www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lkXF4lAJtA , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xaKRk870JU

The Matusadonha – the south eastern shores of Lake Kariba It became a Game Reserve in 1963, and in 1975, it became a National Park. The Park comprises some 1 400 square kilometers of diverse topography, flora and fauna. Before the lake was built, Matusadonha was a vast, rugged wilderness with very limited access. With the lake came ecological changes. One in particular, the lakeshore contributed greatly to the increase of large mammal populations in the area, especially elephant and buffalo. The grass found on the shoreline is Panicum repens and is a rejuvenative grass - needing only fluctuating lake levels to replenish its nutrients. With this ready food source, buffalo, waterbuck, zebra, and even impala have thrived and with them the predators. Matusadonha is an Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) and home to several relocated rhinoceros. Matusadonha has three distinct ecological areas. First is the lake and shoreline grassland; second, the Zambezi Valley floor, a mass of thick jesse and mopane woodland, and; third, the Escarpment area of Julbernadia and Brachystegia woodlands. The Jesse/ Mopani area is sparsely grassed, but provides habitat for browsers, most notably the black rhino. Elephants range throughout the Park, seeking the shade of the Jesse in the heat of the day. The Escarpment rises some 700 metres above the Valley floor and is extremely rugged. Over the years, elephant and fire have caused the once substantial woodlands to dwindle, and in parts, grasslands have taken over. Animal species that are found in abundance include elephant and buffalo. Other common species are those of: night ape, honey badger, civet, small spotted genet, slender mongoose, banded mongoose, spotted hyaena, wild cat, lion, leopard, yellow spotted dassie, black rhinoceros, zebra, warthog, common duiker, grysbok, klipspringer, waterbuck, bushbuck, scrub hare, porcupine, vervet monkey, chacma baboon, side-striped jackal, hippopotamus,

roan antelope, kudu and bush squirrel. Some of the more elusive species include: clawless otter, white-tailed mongoose, reedbuck, sable antelope, eland, civet, rusty spotted genet, caracal and bush pig. Animals that are present but only sighted on rare occasions include wild dog, cheetah, roan and pangolin.

Lake Kariba – as a soul journey destination. Our soul journey venue is luxurious Bumi Hills Safari Lodge It’s a one-hour direct flight from Victoria Falls to this exclusive wildlife gem that is the luxury 20-room Bumi Hills Safari Lodge & Spa, perched on a hill overlooking Lake Kariba and the game-rich shoreline. The incredible panoramic vista cannot be matched by any safari lodge in southern Africa, transforming all public areas, your room balcony and the Spa into pure WOW factors! Bumi Hills safari Lodge offers the added dimension of water for cruises, fishing for the fighting “Tigerfish” and safaris to complement the traditional 4 x 4 mode and the rich local Tonga culture. Arrival at Bumi by boat is a one and half hour relaxing cruise (weather dependant of course) from Kariba itself, it’s a thrill to see the landmass disappear and be surrounded by water as far as the eye can see. As you settle into the rhythmic vibration of the motors churning through the water, passing by the kapenta rigs either settling down to drop their nets for the night or returning to base to unload their catch. Kapenta is a tiny fish much like Whiting and is a cheap most nutritional food source for the local population. In summer months with the heat haze and smoke from bush fires that lingers in the air, the sky and lake merge to become horizonless. The water oily and slick disturbed only by a zephyr pocket that may waft by, turns the water’s surface to wrinkles. The lake can whip up to a frenzy and become highly dangerous when the summer afternoon storms build up and unleash their load, then as quick as it builds, so too it vanishes. Kariba is unique and its sunsets are legendary, the now hard as rock petrified tree silhouettes, form stark reminders of what was once, loom eerily out of the water along the shoreline as elephants quietly go about their business. These exquisite tableaus will create lasting impressions and a hankering to return. Bumi Hills is a private estate bordering onto the Matusadohna reserve. On arrival expect to be greeted by elephant and an array of other animals along the shore line, arriving by air look out for antelope making use of the strip for grazing and the opportunist lion who follow close behind. The lodge, well positioned on the top of the hill and fenced, provides covered verandas, beautiful gardens and an infinity pool, it’s more of a “pioneer” boutique hotel than the typical African thatch lodge of Zimbabwe.

Large sliding glass doors lead out onto a sizeable deck with wonderful uninterrupted views out over the lake and the small island just of the mainland shore. The rooms are air-conditioned, however only at certain hours of the day. The menu is varied, food delicious and service is not wanting. The Zimbabwean people are as always generous, welcoming and friendly. Typically the day starts with an early morning yoga session either out on the grass in front of the suites, around the infinitely pool, on the shoreline followed by an activity such a game drive or early morning boat cruise followed by a sumptuous breakfast. Other activities: Strategically placed hides and platforms located at different spots around the estate offer the perfect opportunity to let the wildlife come to you. Sitting in a hide offers the best possible photographic opportunities as you will get up close and personal to a variety of species going about their normal day. Boat cruises offer a completely different game viewing perspective as your boat skipper expertly manoeuvres your craft along the edge of the lake in search of wildlife coming down to quench their thirst. Ensure to take your camera along on these activities as the photo opportunities are amazing especially in the evening with a famous Kariba Sunset as your backdrop! An early morning walk in the wilds of Africa enriches the soul by getting you closer to nature than on any other activity! Accompany our experienced and armed guides on this activity and learn about a myriad of smaller things, insects, birds and plants with the chance of bumping into big game at any time. Pay a visit to the sprawling mud-hut Tonga village under Chief Mola. A visit is both humbling and life-enriching to witness how these friendly, spiritual people survive under such harsh conditions and how they keep their centuries-old traditions alive along the length of the Zambezi River. Join our award-winning anti-poaching team on one of their daily patrols on the estate, and get a first- hand understanding of exactly what needs to go on behind the scenes to keep the concession in prime condition. This activity is physically demanding and only recommended for fit and healthy individuals. With an endless selection of setup locations and options at the lodge, on the concession and out on the lake, Bumi can cater for virtually any event, function or celebration! In the late afternoon we take a sundowner sunset cruise, watching the banks for elephant and other species drinking along the banks of the Lake before night sets in, all the while crocodiles linger on the shore and pods of hippos wallow before they come ashore for their nocturnal foraging on land Returning for freshen up and dinner on the deck. The evenings end with a meditation session. Set your wild spirit free and let it roam in the rugged wilderness of the Matusadonha. Lake Kariba. Aneis de Vida

I sink into the soft featherbed. My weight lowers me down and snuggles me close to the soft linen bed sheets. The feather-light down duvet whispers its warmth over me And creeps into each and every air pocket it can find So I am enveloped in a cocoon of lightness and warmth. As I drift into the hazy dreams of sleep, I forget my connection to reality, And here, with no control, I am surrendered to the protocols of other worlds.

Exactly when and where do I find this point at which I exit my reality And enter this other world? Aneis de Vida

Exactly how do I access this dimension? Exactly which parts of me accompany me into the new state? It is so intriguing: Realizing that I have this ability to step from one state to another Like a magician.

I know only two keys to this locked door: I have to shut my eyes And I have to switch off my mind. Only in darkness and absence of thought comes sleep. And it is at the instance of achieving a sleep state That the portal opens and I transform into an ethereal being In another world.

When I come back to this world, It is almost always that I become vaguely aware of myself in my bed, And then I open my eyes. I may remember the other world or not, But I have remembered enough times to know that I have lived in dreams.

So now I wonder. Is it like a contrary mirror that when I open my eyes to wake here, I have shut them there. When I become conscious here Have I become equally unconscious there? Maybe the reality is that I never sleep. Maybe my perceptions of the reality of my dreams are distorted By the different laws operating in the other dimension. Perhaps my experience of the oblivion I feel in my deepest sleep Is merely the cancelling out of two opposing emotional vibrations Of equal intensity. Perhaps life on this inner plane Is similar to life on the outer plane Where sleep patterns are necessary to keep a body revitalized and replenished But the spirit is always moving and conscious.

So then, perhaps consciousness is just a wave – A kind of binary pulse that slips from one dimension to the next Aneis de Vida

In an irregular pattern. And each pattern is unique to each individual. And perhaps this pattern of being here and then there, A slipping in and out of our own physical form, Is like a light being switched on and off. But the light does not disappear. It just moves from one room to the other through the switch – Its just that we can’t see it going through to the other side, And we can’t control anything there.

I like to see where I am and what I am doing. I like to be aware of what is around me, And I do not like to be cooped up in a dark, dingy room Feeling sorry for myself. Light brings good cheer and understanding in my life, And I can always feel the worth of a place By the light that surrounds it. What is this connection between my mood and light? Why are the two so intricately entwined? Why is it that the long nights of winter feel so heavy on my heart? Is there some connection between the light around me And my consciousness in this physical world?

Does the darkness around me echo my footsteps In the corridor between my sleeping and waking worlds? Does my psyche recognize the shadow of the sleep portal In the shadows of this world? Is the grey winter drizzle found in the path Between one dimension and the next?

Perhaps for us, our real darkness of heart and soul Is found in the transition from the consciousness On either side of our existence, And it is at this node where, for a time, we are lost to ourselves. And perhaps this loss holds a fear, which is reflected in the physical darkness Found in our earthworld. When we sit at this node, The crossing point from one place to the next, Perhaps for a split second we cease to exist. Aneis de Vida

We are interrupted in life, And we are separated from that which defines our existence: The consciousness of light! Perhaps it is the perception of light on all levels That defines us as living. Perhaps the secret of life is being able to be aware of light. Perhaps light is the life force That burns its way through our eyelids And reflects itself into the retina of our eyes, Nudging the mind into movement And stirring our souls into breath.

Perhaps light is, by definition, life And the ability to be conscious of it and unconscious of it The duality of existence.

[Light is energy, a force whose inception cannot be pinpointed or discovered. It is more intrinsic to being than breathing. Our consciousness is an expression of light. Perhaps the more sophisticated our consciousness becomes the more light we are able to perceive. And as we grow in this super conscious ability, the less darkness there is in our direct experience, until at last, everything is light and we become so absorbed in that light that we become that light. And perhaps, it is at that point that we can say we have found and experienced God.]

“The

Earth has a Soul”

Carl Jung says

Indeed she does A rather Large Soul with a Voice that beckons and reaches through the sense perceptions touching the open heart that listens ©beapotgieter.wordpress.com ~ 20 August 2014

Staring at this blank page, waiting for words to formulate in my interior creative space, my precious 11-year old son stands next to me also staring at the blank page. I click on a photograph I took at Knysna Heads. We both stare at the scene in silence. He breaks the silence and he says: “Mommy, you should write: Nature is the most important thing. When the sun shines my heart opens up. I see the white clouds and the clear blue sky. The birds fly above spreading their freedom.” My eyes well with tears and I feel blessed. I know with certainty that his soul and heart carries the ancient knowledge that he shares a sacred, reciprocal and inseparable bond with the Earth and her embodied soul in Nature. This knowledge however, does not come to us through the teachings of others, but through our direct experience with the Soul of Nature. Carl von Essen (Ecomysticism. The Aneis de Vida

Profound Experience of Nature as Spiritual Guide), believes that “…experience is the direct apprehension of being.” We feel this in our bodies, through our senses and our whole being. In the words of Frederick Perls: “Feelings are not isolated impulses but structured evidence of reality, namely of the interaction of the organism/environment field, for which there is no other direct evidence except feeling.” Through this experience, I can affirm with unequivocal certainty, that the infinite, unifying bond of Divine Love, is distilled, illuminated and becomes crystal-clear during the experience of full-bodied, sensuous and soulful attunement with all that is natural and mystical between Human-Animal-Earth. These experiences, are deeply personal and cannot always be explained within the limited parameters of language. We attempt to do so through many avenues. The writers of Ecopoetry aims to capture this essence through the rhythmic dance of poetic verse. The fields of Ecopsychology, Ecomysticism, Eco-Buddhism and Spiritual Ecology, explores, researches and documents these experiences. But how do we really explain this bond, our LOVE for Earth, Animals, Nature and Soul within the constraints of language? How do we explain these experiences of a mystical quality? Parker J. Palmer writes in his book, A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Unidivided Life: “What we name it matters little to me, since the origins, nature and destiny of call -itwhat-you-will are forever hidden from us, and no one can credibly claim to know its true name. But that we name it matters a great deal. For “it’ is the objective, ontological reality of selfhood that keeps us from reducing ourselves, or each other, to biological mechanisms, psychological projections, sociological constructs, or raw material to be manufactured into whatever society needs – diminishments of our humanity that constantly threaten the quality of our lives.” We cannot cognitively understand and define everything. Simply allowing the experiences to expand our being is often enough.

An oak burrows deep into the earth’s skin an optimal position for nutritional sustenance and flourishing A soul burrows deep into experience an optimal position for both grounding and growing its base of understanding Each a design with the natural propensity to be as intended to thrive without restriction ©beapotgieter.wordpress.com

As James Hollis says: “the more I try to define psyche, the further I move from my relationship with the mystical.” I think in some way, many scholars (we all are anyway) share their ideas, thoughts, experiences through books, stories, photography, art, poetry, music, dance and many other forms of expression, in order to validate and affirm both the unique and shared aspects thereof. We write perhaps to invite others to experience it for themselves. The universal truth may just simply be that everyone is trying to manifest something of the collective truth they experience within their souls, out into the world, consciously or unconsciously. How can anyone refute it? “Somehow, the individual’s own experience…must become a trustworthy ground…if we do not have any faith in the truthfulness of the individual’s experience, then we have succumbed to the self -destructiveness of nihilism.” – David Levin I tend to look at what is happening around and inside me as a metaphor or symbol for something that is playing out on a universal level. This is because I truly believe that as much as the external is a reflection of the internal, the internal is also influenced by the external. There is a dynamic interplay between the collective and the individual. For me the microcosm is a holograph of the macrocosm. The diverse pockets of struggling, suffering, illness, famine, war, destruction, on our planet are thematic, shared, cyclical and metaphoric for a universally shared sense of loss, suffering, fear, anxiety and destruction. As John Davis (www.ecospyhology.org) says: “The deep and enduring psychological questions--who we are, how we grow, why we suffer, how we heal--are inseparable from our relationships with the physical world. Similarly, the over -riding environmental questions--the sources of, consequences of, and solutions to environmental problems --are deeply rooted in the psyche, our images of self and nature, and our behaviours.” I believe our soulful, loving relationship with Earth is key. “The ensouled body is in communion with the body of the world and finds its health in that intimacy.” – Thomas Moore. Making it conscious and central to our living is essential. “As human beings, our primarily dwelling is ‘outside’ in the space of action constituted by relation to things, plants, animals, other human beings, ourselves, to heaven or earth in their totality.” – Medard Boss Aneis de Vida

The natural spaces surrounding us ‘speak’ to the natural spaces within us. The Earth’s Soul speaks directly to our Souls, through Nature. It is encoded in our soul’s DNA. Direct sensorial experiences in Nature triggers that memory. Restoring that connection/ relationship to Earth, through these experiences, helps us realize that she has a Soul and that her Soul is connected to each human and living being’s soul. Ancient healing philosophies saw the soul, body and earth – essentially all living beings are interconnected. Therefore, each interacts on the health and wellbeing of each part of the whole. “This separation or illusion of separation from nature and the natural, has led to great suffering for both the environment (as ecological devastation) and for humans (as grief, despair and alienation).” ~ John Davis.

I vowed to not preach, just share in love. “Is there an alternative to scare tactics and guilt trips that will lend ecological necessity both intelligence and passion? There is. It is the concern that arises from shared identity: two lives that become one. Where that identity is experienced deeply, we call it love. More coolly and distantly felt, it is called compassion. This is the link we must find between ourselves and the planet that gives us life….. What people expect, want, value in life connects intimately with what they understand their place in the universe to be.” – Theodore Roszak Perhaps we must just fall back in love with Earth, the pure innocent awe and wonder of love. The kind my son so beautifully describes. “We need to wake up and fall in love with the earth.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

GARDENING Recycling or repurposing in the garden By Andre Duif How many of us have old things lying around the shed or attic, or in that corner of the garden which is for ever than bane of existence, always an eye sore, or just untidy. Here are a few ways of using old things, to give them a new lease on life and a practical purpose. I have gone and found a few old things around our home and this is what I came up with. I am sure many of you have things lying around the house that you don’t know what to do with. I have to be honest, since I have been writing my articles for Aneis de Vida, one has to think of what is relevant for the time, and being a "disciplined" hoarder , I always put something away for another day, but writing these articles, makes me do things. Not only do I get a lot of satisfaction from it, but my home becomes cosier, with interesting corners, nooks and crannies. Stop putting it off folks, go out there and beautify, your space, your soul and your thoughts. It makes one want to breathe. Here are just a few things from around our house which has now found a new purpose.

An old beaten copper fruit bowl - I remember this bowl in my parents’ home, shiny, and full of fresh fruit, but I guess it had seen better days. It has been passed down to me, but quite frankly my home does not really lend itself to copper or polished brass. So I punched some holes in the bottom for drainage, and made it my mini herb garden for picking the odd garnish for a home cooked meal. Gorgeous I think!

Then there is my trusty old builders’ wheelbarrow, which gets planted up with seasonal herbs and vegies.

My personal favourite of all time is the old filing cabinet that we found on a rubbish dump. We painted it with a rust paint to make it look old and fixed up the shelving. Nobody is any the wiser that it is an old metal filing cabinet. It now takes pride of place on our patio with our gardening magazines, all our gardening tools, fertilizers, and all sorts of personal memorabilia collected over the years.

CELEBRATING MOTHER EARTH & THE IMPORTANT WOMEN IN YOUR LIFE By Deborah Sutherland Isn’t it wonderful when you can celebrate some of the most important blessings in your life? It is about taking time from our regular routines to be mindful of what is important. So, let’s celebrate Mom’s and Woman that are significant. I think of all the Woman, both present and those that have passed, that have been instrumental in my life. Each of these beautiful souls leaving a message of growth, expansion, awareness, mindfulness and probably many aspects that we are unaware of. And then there is Mother Earth. As our Mothers birthed us, took care of us, so too has Mother Earth given us a home to be birthed on, provided us a vast landscape to explore and grow into whatever our hearts desire. She has provided us with the earth to grow our food, water to refresh and clean us and our environment, the sun to keep us warm enabling us to live on Her, a kaleidoscope’s of landscape terrains to fill our living needs, wild life that adds value to our environments and pets to nurture and care for and let us not forget the fellow life travelers that we navigate our life with. She has given us everything to ensure that we have the richest of life journeys. These are a few ways that we can celebrate our Mom’s, grandmothers, sisters, wives and friends who are nurturing to you and the people you love: Give conscious gifts Whether they are for function or comfort, give gifts that keep on giving. Commit to giving green for the earth and for the ones you love. If you don’t recycle already, make this a time to investigate recycling and what it entails. Look at your household detergents and make a commitment to change over to one eco-friendly detergent a month. See how you can pass on un-used items or recycle them. Plant a garden Planting a garden can be the size of a shoe box, a pot or if you are adventuresome, a whole veggie patch. Make it a gift of veggies that keeps on providing nourishment and abundance and reminds Mom each time she picks the leaves, of you. Purchase openpollinated seeds or organic seedlings supporting the Earth.

Cook a local and seasonal meal If you need some inspiration for a healthy meal, why not head on to your local Farmers Market or your local Fresh Produce Shop. You can find everything from fresh fruit and veggies, homemade bread, olives, cheese and many more homemade goodies to satisfy your taste buds. You will be supporting local entrepreneurs, farmers and people who have Earth Matters at heart. You could make a meal at home while Mom puts her feet up. Or what about packing a Picnic Lunch or a Sunset Hamper and head off to a place in Nature? Moving into a space of beauty and peace allows our being to be replenished without having to do anything more than to simply be. Giving to others fills our hearts as much as we fill theirs. May your celebrations leave lasting memories that bring a smile to your heart on your reflections. In Good Health Deborah

Massage for better health. The value of massage is immeasurable, but this is often only realised after having had a particularly good one. "I should do this more", I hear on a daily basis, but people don’t always return because the blissful memory fades and is quickly replaced by the bustle of daily life and the stresses of work which again become our focus. In the meantime, the aches and pains return until they become unbearable once again. So what can massage actually do for us?

Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.

Assist with shorter, easier labour for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.

Ease medication dependence.

Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.

Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.

Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.

Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.

Increase joint flexibility.

Lessen depression and anxiety.

Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.

Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.

Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.

Reduce spasms and cramping.

Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.

Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.

Relieve migraine pain. (1)

With all these benefits, what stops us from having regular massages? Two factors come up constantly, price and time. To address both of these issues, the topic of self-indulging will be addressed. Massage is seen as a luxury to enjoy on one’s birthday or other special occasions only. This makes massage appear self indulging and only to be enjoyed when it is deserved, which is rare. If a child excels in an exam he or she is rewarded by parents, when an animal acts in a positive manner it is given a treat, if a friend does us a favour, a gift is given. Perhaps if we see the body for what it is, a highly intelligent and complex organism, we would understand that it too, needs to be rewarded. When the value of something is fully realised, time and money will always be set aside for it. Take your health for example, an ancient proverb comes into mind; “The youth spend their health to make wealth, and as they age wealth is spent to regain health”. We usually wait until a condition becomes unbearable and then suddenly time and money become available to treat it, when it could easily have been nipped in the bud. Readers may not know that massage is actually an ideal therapy for preventing and treating many variations of illnesses: Aneis de Vida

Yesterday evening I stood at dusk at the Mukah river, just watching the water on its way to the ocean. As an educator and a mentor and a healer and a writer, I often picture myself as a river. The inspiration and energy and ideas is the living water that flows. Sometimes my river gets a bit clogged up, mostly when I am tired and react too quickly, become irritated, get myself worked up about deadlines and so on. The logs that float down and mostly flow freely away, become all jammed up and the river becomes blocked.

How do I unjam the river? I snuggle up and sleep, play with my kitties, chant, fold a few origami flowers, write my blessings, read poetry, eat chocolate, dance wildly to the “I love Rock n Roll by Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, look at old photographs or just sit in silence in the fresh air. We all have our own ways and recently I have been thinking about my mother saying that one day in our old age it will be the galleries of our minds that entertain us and that I should focus on filling those halls with beautiful things. So one of my ways to unjam the logs in my head when I am stressed, it to go to the places, real and imaginary where I feel peace. Many years ago, on my first trip to wonderful Ireland, I was introduced to a magician of sorts. I was young and in a confused pickle. In a serendipitous moment, he encouraged me to become still for a while and get out of my head into my heart. He led me on a vivid visual journey and I found a place inside me where the white noise stops, a wellspring of quiet. Whenever I go there now, it is like reconnecting with an old friend. I am on an open plane, and there is a green hill in the distance, a solid stone castle, I sense I am on my way there. I am crossing a vast wide river using stepping stones. The torrents are quite fast and the water very clear; round slippery pebbles on the bottom, always varying depths. I can't see the other side, and sometimes the next stepping stone is not visible to me.

Aneis de Vida

April 2015

This means, instead of panic, it is time to be still, sit down on the rock, stick my toes into the water, listen to the gurgling, gentle churning, and come back to myself. One thing is sure, always sure, the next stepping stone will reveal itself. Even if it takes a while. Another place I like to go in my mind is the desert. As most of you know, I am a desert girl, and in Oman I spent a lot of time in the sands. I became friends with a very special bedu family, and my memories of those days will always be cherished. I remember one particular day I went out on a camel with the second youngest brother, Humaid. It is a memory I like to revisit when life closes in.

The desert is a place saturated with silence and beauty. When you spend time in it, that silence and beauty very quickly also permeates you on every level. Riding a camel is very rhythmic and mesmerising and it is like being in some alternate reality. We stopped under a lone tree in a wide wadi where he made fire. He had brought flour and prepared dough from scratch, making

flatbread on the coals. The exchanges between us were short, not needing words in the vastness. I fell asleep under the tree, a breeze blowing over me. I had a wonderful dream of my grandfather, we were dancing together and laughing. It was a great comfort to me, as my grandfather was close, like a father to me, and suffered a great deal in the last years of his earthly life. I woke up at peace, healed of his pain. As I opened my eyes, I noticed that Humaid was praying. The picture of him making his movements of reverence stay with me always. He prayed in the sand, and each time his forehead touched the reddish satin earth, I felt it too. A holy moment in a thin place. Here in Mukah I am fortunate to have the wide and open beach. It is not your classic beautiful seashore, yet I love the warmth and the feeling of openness. There is a lot of debris on the sand, but not as much as just after the rainy reason. It is completely fringed by palm trees and the sea is chocolate brown due to the river mouth just to the right. It is a quiet place; a few locals fishing in the river, but out of sight. I sit on the hard sand on the piece of cardboard I have brought from the boot of my car. The waAneis de Vida

ter ripples up the shore like little pieces of lace, with that beautiful soothing sound that only the sea has. There is a slight breeze and the air in my nostrils is the perfect temperature, feeling silken as I inhale. So, in my meditations this week, I have been revisiting that places again, unclogging the river. It has brought some sense of quietness to me, and I feel that maybe that is why I could be kinder to myself today. I was thinking about my life as a work of art. Isn’t it wonderful how our experiences in life are a wonderful intricate tapestry that all weave into each other; time having no role to play. Experiences that we have years apart may end up next to each other in that stitching, the matching hues perfectly juxtaposed. There are all colors in our tapestries, but when you feel as though the dark shades are the ones being sewn today, it is important to joyfully anticipate the lustrous golds and ethereal silvers and rich bronzes which are to come. These current deep chocolate barks and gunmetal blacks will allow the others to glow all the more. Rejoice in each one, which is an integral thread of you.

Head lice, those nasty little parasites that make your scalp crawl and itch. A common problem amongst children, however adults are just as susceptible. Head lice are transmitted by coming into contact with a person who is infected be that through play, sporting activities, the use of personal items such as brushes and combs, clothing or sleeping on bedding that has been used by an individual who has had lice. Lice reproduce at speed, it is thus difficult to get rid of them in just a few days. By combing the hair with a fine comb can rid the hair but it is extremely time consuming and tiring.

Here are a few natural home remedies that will help in solving the problem.

Baby Oil, Detergent (skip liquid) & Vinegar Baby oil helps suffocate the lice, rub baby oil into the hair and scalp, comb through thoroughly (the lice will start to fall off). Then was the hair with detergent and hot water. Before retiring to bed, rub head and hair with vinegar and cover the head with a towel. Keep this on through the night. The next morning wash hair with normal shampoo. Repeat this process for 4-5 days. Olive Oil Like with baby oil, olive oil will smother the head lice. Rub the head generously with olive oil, cover head with towel and leave overnight. The next morning comb the hair with a think comb to get rid of the lice, then wash hair with shampoo (add a few drops of tea tree oil). Repeat this process for 4-5 days. Salt & Vinegar Make a mixture of salt and vinegar (1 cup Salt and 1 Cup Vinegar). Put this into a spray bottle, mix well and spray the hair well (hair needs to be at least damp). Cover head with towel and leave on for a few hours. Rinse and shampoo hair as normal. For the best results do this for 3 days running, and then once every 4-5 days as a precautionary measure for a few weeks.

“Greetings dear children of the light, it is I Zadkiel. It is truly a great honor for me to speak to thee all through this channeling. So many light workers upon the Earth Plane at this time are feeling downhearted and abandoned by the beings of light that walk with them. This is because there is much turbulence and turmoils within thine lives and an apathy is building within thee all. So with this knowingness, I Zadkiel say unto thee all, call for me to transmute and transform the negativity, confusion and apathy within thine beingness. Lie prone upon thine beds and call for me to help thee through this time, and know in thine hearts I shalt indeed come and lift these burdens from thine shoulders and lighten thine energy fields again. Many powerful energies are coming through to the Earth Plane at this time to bring great change and transformation and with change always cometh a little disturbance within the energy field, so do not lose hope and faith in us, there is indeed a higher hand at work in thine lives and upon thee earth plane. We have not left thine side precious ones, we are standing close by thee all, awaiting thine calls to be of assistance. Unto thee all, I bring great love, transformation and love from thee Almighty God, I am thee Archangel Zadkiel.

The focus for May is going with the flow I have been travelling with my channel to different countries different realms for many a year, and at last I think she has the message loud and clear. It will happen when it happens, everything else is really of no consequence on your life path. Aneis de Vida

Take what the Universe hands you good, bad, indifferent and work with what you have in order to get to the next stone that helps you cross the river. Sometimes there are large leaps of faith needed to get the courage to get to that next stone rising out the water, other times there may be loads of small stones only just visible under the water but never the less you know they are there and you confidently step from one to another. You may think, well this is easy and go with ease from one to another, then wow, hang on that one is a little too far, too high, looks to slippery so you stay, think, try and work out a way to reach it, try getting your balance, confidence getting weaker and weaker as the moments flit by, and the analysing thoughts whizz around your brain. Most of you , do NOT think for one moment , it is perfect , just the right distance to reach your destination, pushing you a little further in your faith in the Universe that all is at it should be. And ‌‌.. An important note to add here, If you don’t make it to the next stone despite all effort, do not despair, get angry, get frustrated. Do you not think the Universe just may have rewarded you for the effort, for trying, and is now going to let you float for a while unharmed to the next stage further downstream. Maybe it is time, to look at what IS actually put before you and see it for the glory, adventure and challenge it is, rather than the distrust, fear and doubt it brings. With love and light always Atenar

As you surrender the need to control, your relaxed energy rapidly attracts your desires. The fairies and the entire universe understand your desires and needs, and they have been trying to bring them to you. You can help your prayers be answered by letting go of the need to control the details or know the future outcome of this situation. The more you can relax and trust, the faster everything will resolve in a positive fashion. Remember the Universe’s plans and standards for you exceed your own, so it is best to lean on this Divine wisdom and allow it to unfold in a perfect way.

Forgive—to cease to feel resentment against on account of wrong committed Forgiveness -

disposition to pardon

Forgiving—willing or able to forgive How do we personally go about ‘forgiving’? Words we use almost every day. Are we willing or able to forgive? Resentment that covers a whole section on its own. We resent those whom have more possessions than we have in our own homes. We resent those whom are able to afford newer or bigger model motor vehicles. We resent those whom have better paying jobs. We resent those whom seem to live much better lives than we do. We resent those whom are able to eat out in expensive restaurants more often. We resent so much whether we are aware of this, or not. When we speak of those whom have ‘more’ than we do, we do this in a very derogatory tone of voice. In this manner, our siblings and our children ‘pick up’ on our tone of voice and choice of words used. We in fact ‘breed’ resentment into our children subliminally. Aneis de Vida

April 2015

We most definitely resent those whom are able to travel to overseas destinations, those that have the wealth to buy most items we can’t even begin to dream of. Why? We have heard the words so many times: when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Resentment is ‘inherited’ from our own parents. Can we break this ‘pattern’? How do we break this pattern? Each of us have our own ‘cross’ to bear, be it that we come from a poor family, where it is easier to ‘moan’ that we weren’t ‘born rich’. That we feel we ‘deserve’ some of the wealth. We should teach our children from an early age to respect money, property, to set values in life. We teach ourselves and our children to value school lessons, home lessons, respect and consideration to others. This will slowly break the binds of resentment. A child is better at sports, look for the qualities in your child, be that music, poetry, singing, even to school lessons such as arithmetic, writing even reading, or some other activity. Praise the child, encourage the child, nurture the child in these fields. Also we must encourage our children to ‘try’ out various sports, maybe basketball is not the sport, but tennis or golf? Life is all about experimenting. Encourage the child to widen their boundaries, to try. Should the child not enjoy the activity or sport whatever, keep looking for that something that they will excel in, exceed at. Make activities fun. We should refrain from ‘competition’ as not all of us have that driving ambition or the stamina to ‘go for it’. With small children, they will try and steal another child’s toy because it may be newer, or even prettier etc. We explain to our child that (your) child loves their toy more than the other child loves that toy, that the other child hasn’t had the time to ‘learn to love’ their toy. Explain that your child got this toy given to them, with the love of Mommy and Daddy. Explain that you bought that toy because you knew your child will love and look after the toy as much as you enjoyed buying the toy. Then ask how would your child feel if someone wanted to ‘steal’ their toy? Say and mean this with as much love in your voice as you can manage. It may not work the first time this happens, but with conditioning and patience on your part you will encourage a new ‘mind set’ into your child. When the child is embarrassed to bring friends home because of the ‘poor’ or ‘poverty’ conditions inside the home. Put a new spin on the situation. That your home is filled with love, laughter and a family that do love each other. Having new furniture or a big home does not mean instant love and laughter. As you the parent will have less money as that money will have to be used to pay for the new furniture, etc. We instil values from an early age, we will break the cycle of resentment. Within ourselves? Looking at each situation with a ‘new pair of eyes’? Don’t look at what we ‘don’t have’ but what we do have? When we have succeeded in instilling compassion, with kindness, within our own family circle, this will expand outwards. Not all of us had the privilege of a fancy education or the better schools. Our parents were hardworking and took pride in their work and circumstances, we will strive to be like minded. If we come from a broken home, or had parents that were alcoholics, even drug addicts, look at each situation, how can you improve your own home? With the latter, look at yourself, do you depend on alcohol? Drugs? Maybe seek counselling? Maybe your own parents didn’t have values instilled into them, so it is up to you to become the parent that your children will be proud of every day. Any type of employment is gainful employment. Be the work a bus driver, a cashier or waitress each can be done with dignity. By being friendly and seemingly happy in demeanour, doing your job to the best of your ability, you will be respected. Sullen people always seeming to be in a bad mood will not encourage others to befriend you. Change your outlook and you will change your life. You could be promoted to work your way up the ladder in that business. We need to embrace our capabilities, accept our ‘limitations’ and believe we are capable of much more, be thankful for what we do have, and still have dreams to have ‘better’ lives. A neighbourhood with a park that is safe for the children, neighbours who will wave and say hello, become friends one day. Forgiving? Very difficult, when we are hurt, regardless of the degree of the ‘harm’ against us, will find it difficult to ‘forgive’ those whom have trespassed against us. There are no degrees in hurt, a hurt is a hurt. How to let go? By saying it repeatedly? Working through the resentment against those whom we feel slighted by at that time. Each of us must try and deal with this as best we can. After all, we are human. We each have our own frailties and failings. Dealing with these is up to us. Seeking to better our personage in a way that will encourage a better world for the generations to come.

Another day with the sun breaking over the mountains, Betsy and Jetsy wake to another day to explore the Barnyard. Mama Piglet made sure they had their breakfast before wandering off to meet up with the ‘gang’. As it is autumn at the Barnyard Mama Piglet made sure they put their scarves on to keep warm. Jetsy didn’t like his bright green scarf, wanted to swop with Betsy as hers was a nice bright yellow like bananas. His favourite fruit of all the fruits, no. Jetsy also loved watermelon, peaches, strawberries, apples oh YES, the scarf was the same colour as a lovely granny-smith apple, so Jetsy decided he did like his green scarf after all. Mama Piglet told Betsy to stay away from the Barnyard House, the one Beagle was expecting a litter. Litter? Mama Piglet explained “Litters are what Mommy’s have in the Animal world”. Betsy was still unsure of litter. So Mama Piglet explained it is when the Mommy has babies. Aaahh new life arriving at the Barnyard. Betsy hurried Jetsy to finish his breakfast so they could go collect the ‘gang’ to go see the new arrivals or hear news of when they would be arriving.

Mama Maa Goat was in a bad mood, one of her children had broken the fence around their paddock, and Mama Maa Goat was worried that snakes or other predators could get inside their little house. Papa Baa Goat was watching to see if Farmer Ben would come soon to do his daily inspection to make sure all stays well at the Barnyard. Betsy asked Mama Maa Goat if the kids were allowed to go exploring. Mama Maa Goat said “Please at least they won’t be underfoot, that whomever had kicked the fence would be reprimanded”. The kids were looking nervous, as Bumpy loved kicking his back legs up and dancing around. He knew Mama Maa Goat would scold him severely when she realised it was he that had done this to the fence. Betsy was so excited to go see if the litter had arrived and told the ‘gang’ “let us go collect the Goslings and rush up to the Barnyard House, to see if the new babies had arrived”. The Goslings wanted to know how many eggs? Eggs? Of course, Geese lay eggs, Goats and Pigs have babies! So Betsy said she wasn’t sure “but if we hurry we can find out”! Mrs Jen was sitting calmly on her chair outside the kitchen door, checking her wrist watch every 10 seconds. Angela the Vet’s assistant was pacing up and down, talking on her cell phone to Dr Dogman, explaining how DeeDee was doing. Mrs Jen saw the ‘gang’ approaching and with a big smile said “Good morning my young ones, there is big excitement today. DeeDee is going to have her babies any minute now”. Mrs Jen shot off her chair and rushed into the kitchen, bringing out a big plate of fruit and snacks for the ‘gang’ “Now eat up, we will all need our strength today” and she took a piece of pineapple off the plate and started nibbling. Angela said “no” as she needed her hands free of juices to go clean up before the babies arrival. Mrs Jen was so excited, and started telling them of each of their arrival of when they were born at the Barnyard. Mama Maa Goat with her first kids, Mama Piglet and her babies, Mama Gee worrying over her eggs, were they too warm, too much draft? Ah those were the days, new life means more happy faces at the Barnyard. Angela heard whimpering from inside the house, rushed to the tap taking a big bottle off the shelf, wetting her hands with water, poured the liquid onto her hands. Taking a nail brush started scrubbing her nails, then her fingers, her hands up to the wrists, with the water slowly coming from the tap, rinsed up to her elbows, and with her hands held up like fists, rushed inside shouting to Mrs Jen “will shout for you when I need to you come and assist”. Mrs Jen went over to the tap, opened it so the water slowly trickled out (we never waste water ever!) wet her hands and did as Angela did to clean her hands to spick and span clean. Then Mrs Jen slowly went inside, doing a little jiggle to show the ‘gang’ how excited she was. Ten minutes later Mrs Jen rushed outside with a towel and something so tiny inside making mewling noises that sounded just like a Cat? Do Beagles have kittens? Mrs Jen slowly opened the towel, and lying in the palm of her hand was the smallest puppy the ‘gang’ had ever seen. The ‘gang’ were wide eyed in wonder. They had seen Misty’s pups but those were running around, little miniatures of Misty, but so much bigger than the little Beagle puppy in Mrs Jen’s hand. Mrs Jen explained that all puppies are so tiny when they are born. They do grow bigger by the day, they are born deaf and blind, and depend on their Mommy to feed and clean them. As DeeDee had been a rescue she would need lots of assistance, and that is why Angela had come to help. To help with the birth and to monitor their progress along with DeeDee’s progress till the puppies were able to run around like Rain, Storm, Lightning, Snow, Thunder, Tornado and Cloud getting up to mischief and being like most children, naughty while exploring and discovering new things to sniff at and play with every day. Mrs Jen took the puppy back inside, and brought each new arrival out to meet the ‘gang’ though explaining that the ‘gang’ would have to come back in about 3 weeks when the puppies would be brought outside to explore their new home. Betsy and the ‘gang’ finished off all the fruit on the plate, and sat around deciding on names for the Beagle puppies. Mrs Jen was so flushed and flustered from introducing the new litter to the ‘gang’ she sat down on the chair to explain that the next three weeks DeeDee would spend most of her time with the babies. Comforting them while feeding and cleaning them. DeeDee would be a lovely mommy to the babies.
