Welcome to SE22

I am well and truly feeling the Christmas spirit putting together this issue. I have drawn the line on listening to Christmas tunes just yet! But with all the fantastic Christmas theme events we have on locally this month, it is not difficult to get in to the festive mood. We have another page of Christmas Fairs and Markets page 28. It is, of course, the return of the East Dulwich Christmas Cracker on Saturday 7th December, see you there! Our other events listings including many Christmas Carol concerts, starts on page 8. Remember there are more events, stories and news updated daily at www.arounddulwich.co.uk. Our Business Spotlight this month is Polished, based on North Cross Road, find our more about them and their special offer on pages 10 and 11. So all that is left for me to say is Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

The Hardy Cyclamen – Little Winter Wonders Garden Talk with Janine Winlaw | Instagram @janinewinlaw

F

or winter colour and interest, you can’t beat the hardy cyclamen. These little gems will brighten up the darker months with a sprinkling of pink and white. They die back and lie dormant in warm weather, popping up again when temperatures drop. Despite their dainty appearance, they flower away through frost and snow and when happy will eventually self-seed and spread around, carpeting shady spots. Flowering from late December, Cyclamen coum flowers are a sign that a fresh New Year is on its way. The rounded, dark green leaves with white or silver markings appear first, so they’ll already have been growing from October. These tiny cyclamen look wonderful en mass, and are perfect for naturalising around the base of deciduous trees and are gorgeous with snowdrops, crocuses and other shade lovers such as ferns. The flowers of Cyclamen coum tend to be magenta pink, but come in a range of pinks to pure white. For something more unusual try varieties such as C. coum ‘The ‘Pewter Group’ which have a silvery coating on the leaves or C. coum ‘Ashwood Snowflake’ with pure white flowers. These cyclamen like partial shade and humus-rich, well drained soil so dig in grit or leaf mould if you have heavy soil. Avoid manure as they like poorer soils and this will just produce leaves and no flowers. They also like dappled shade and moisture in autumn through to spring, which is when they grow below ground - long before they emerge. Too late for this year, but worth mentioning if you felt your garden lacked a bit of autumn colour is the earlier flowering Cyclamen hederifolium (October to November). Unlike Cyclamen coum, the pink flowers of autumn flowering Cyclamen hederifolium often appear first, with their striking marbled, heart-shaped leaves following afterwards, forming a carpet after the flowers have finished. White varieties include C. hederifolium ‘Amaze Me’ and C. hederifolium albiflorum ‘Album’ with a mass of upright pure white flowers or for silvery leaves try C. hederifolium ‘Silver Cloud.’

12 | SE22 - December 2019

Image by Matthias Böckel from Pixabay

These cyclamen originate from the Mediterranean and are tougher than C. coum, putting up with drier sunnier conditions such as under shrubs or round tree roots - although they prefer some shade and like free draining, humus rich soil to avoid the tubers drying out in summer. As with C. coum, they make lovely ground cover and are at their best planted in large groups. They look stunning under planting silver birch trees, or popping up amongst inky black Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens.’ Tempting as it is, avoid planting C. hederifolium and Cyclamen coum together, as the former is more vigorous and will eventually take over. The larger, showier, non-hardy cyclamen are cultivars of Cyclamen persicum. They’re useful for Christmassy window boxes and containers and come in a range of whites, magentas, reds and deep purples but are generally one-season wonders.

Satsumas In Brandy Recipes from Suzanne James | www.suzannejames.co.uk

O

ne of the nicest things about Christmas has to be all the ‘naughty but nice’ nibbles we get to enjoy. The shops have plenty to choose from, but I really like to make my own, and there are plenty of options that are quick an easy – here are two of my favorites.

Ingredients • • • •

1kg satsumas peeled 350g caster sugar 450ml brandy Optional – Star Anise & Cinnamon Sticks

Method 1) Pack the satsumas into clean sterilised jars, layering with sugar as you go and pushing the star anise & cinnamon sticks in around them (If using). Leave at least 3cm at the top of the jar. 2) Pour in the brandy, tapping the side of the jar to remove any air pockets. 3) Seal the jars, shake well and store in a dark cupboard for up to 1 month. 4) Serve cold from the jar, or heated gently in a saucepan with cream.

In Season this month Vegetables - Beetroot, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Celeriac, Celery, Chicory, Jerusalem Artichokes, Kale, Leeks, Parsnips, Potatoes, Pumpkins, Red Cabbage, Sweed, Turnips Fruit & Nuts - Apples (Egremont, Russet,

Blenheim Orange, Orleans Reinette), Chestnuts, Clementines, Cranberries, Pears, Satsumas, Tangerines

Meat - Duck, Goose, Grouse, Guinea Fowl,

Hare, Partridge, Pheasant, Rabbit, Venison, Wood Pigeon

Fish & Seafood - Brill, Clams, Haddock,

Halibut, Hake, John Dory, Lemon Sole, Monkfish, Mussels, Oysters (Native & Rock), Plaice, Scallops, Sea Bass, Turbot

Ingredients • • • • • •

6oz / 175g squares of semisweet chocolate (50-70% dark) 3 tablespoons whipping cream 3 tablespoons butter - softened 2 tablespoons orange liqueur or Grand Marnier 6oz crumbled fruit cake 40oz / 115g castor sugar

Method 1) Chop chocolate into small pieces. In saucepan over very low heat, melt chocolate, cream, and butter until blended and smooth. 2) Stir in liqueur and fruitcake crumbs; chill for 2 hours or until firm. 3) Shape into 1” balls and chill for at least 20 minutes. Before serving, roll in icing sugar or cocoa powder and chill for 20 minutes.

Happiness At Work Fitness tips with Leanne Spencer | www.bodyshotperformance.com

I

n this blog I’d like to share with you a Scandinavian word you might or might not have heard of before - Arbejdsglaede. And what does it mean? Happiness at work. It's a Scandinavian concept and no other country has a word for this, which I find quite interesting. If you're reading this as the owner of a business, it's probably a concept you're going to be quite interested in. How happy are your staff and your employees? And as an individual, how happy are you in the line of work you're doing? A lot of the content I talk about has been around some of the more underappreciated aspects of well-being, like autonomy, variety, purpose, and work life balance. I think for a lot of us, work has really encroached into personal time, and we find it difficult to find that blend rather than balance - the perfect combination of satisfactory time at work, and having the bandwidth of energy and emotion to come and enjoy yourself when you're at home as well as in your personal life. Life can feel quite humdrum, can’t it, when you get into that hamster wheel of just work, home, work, home, work, home? Don’t feel trapped in your job or trapped in that humdrum nature of daily life. Seize back some time for yourself and do something that’s all about you. Regaining some autonomy will help you really notice the difference in terms of your wellbeing. One concept which I think is extremely important for this is the concept of heartfulness. It's about reconnecting with something you used to love – maybe you used to love knitting or running or theatre, but you just find the convergent pressures of work and home have squeezed out the bandwidth you have to do that. I urge you to try and reconnect with some of those lost passions and lost hobbies or projects, even if it's just for five, six, seven minutes a week. And then you can build on that once you've really reconnected with how good it makes you feel. The other side of heartfulness is contribution. It's doing something for someone else. It's getting you involved in volunteering, for example. I spend a lot of my time volunteering, and I also fundraise

16 | SE22 - December 2019

for Alzheimer's research – it makes me feel great to do something for someone else. But what is it for you that takes you out of self and that is entirely about someone else or something else, a cause that's bigger than you? And I think when you start to put your focus on that, then the blend or the balance that we so seek, starts to reappear. It’s a really simple concept…Heartfulness. By doing something for someone else and getting out of self or reconnecting with stuff you used to love - I think we will find more of that arbejdsglaede, more happiness at work. So, try and give it a go and see the positive impact it will have on your personal and work life – and what a fantastic way to start the New Year!

Our Lady of Calais

Art Exhibition Prompts Questions On Meaning Of Christmas

A

n art exhibition including a painting that depicts the baby Jesus and his mother Mary as refugees in a camp in Calais will be held this December in St John’s East Dulwich. The massive 8ft square painting called ‘Our Lady of Calais’ will hang in the sanctuary where the altar normally sits throughout Advent and Christmas and will form the backdrop to all the activities and services at St John’s this December. First exhibited in St Paul’s Cathedral, the painting will form part of an exhibition called ‘What are you expecting?’ that the organisers hope will get people thinking about the true meaning of Christmas. ‘For many of us, Christmas is a lot about our expectations of presents and parties’ said Curate, Reverend Raymond Baudon, ‘but we hope these paintings will get people to encounter the meaning of Christmas in an unexpected way. We know the nativity story so well, that we forget Jesus was born to what might be described today as a homeless migrant family.’ The exhibition opens on Sunday 1st December at 3pm with a special service of blessing and dedications led by the Rt Rev Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark. At the service the Elm Singers will be singing Britten’s ‘Ceremony of Carols’ and there will be a drinks reception after

the service. Everyone is welcome to attend. The exhibition runs right through until 29th December and is open every day from 9:30am. As part of the project, the artist Sara Mark will be leading workshops with local school children to respond to the art. Local artists are also invited to come at any time with their materials to respond to the artwork in their own way. However, there will be a special artists’ open day on Saturday 7th December. St John’s will be taking part in the Artists’ Open House weekends in May next and as a legacy of this December exhibition artists are invited to submit works to be displayed in May based on the themes explored in the exhibition. A programme of events runs alongside the exhibition, including on 8th December the owner of ‘Our Lady of Calais’ will be in conversation with the development officer from St Paul’s cathedral who commissioned the painting. There will also be a talk that afternoon by Dr Jennifer Craig-Norton about her book re-examining the Kindertransport called ‘The Kindertransport: Contesting Memory’. Please see the listings page 8 to find out what else is going on throughout December. If you would like more information about the exhibition then please contact Rev Raymond Baudon at St John’s: curate@stjohnseastdulwich.org.

Avoid Pet Disasters At Christmas

Pets Corner with Leonie St Clair | www.londondogstraining.co.uk

W

hen the Christmas season is upon us the demands on our time and energy are invariably overwhelming. Alas, we don’t have eyes in the back of our heads or multiple hands. Unfortunately for us, that cute puppy or kitten purchased in the summer is now in the full throes of adolescence. Like all teenagers they just want to have fun and explore new stuff. Christmas is an Aladdin’s cave of pet-fun opportunity and it is easy for things to go wrong, ruining family time and resulting in costly vet bills. Here is a quickie checklist, to remind ourselves how to keep our furry friends safe over the holiday.

Christmas Trees & Ornaments All that glitters, dingles and dangles is an open invitation for cats and young dogs to have their own kind of festive fun with your tree and its adornments. Cats can access trees from all sorts of cunning vantage points- and the desire to leap, capture and kill enticing glass ornaments, lights, flexes, and even candles, can be overpowering. Broken ornament shards are obviously dangerous and pets have been burned by chewing through flexes. Even pine needles are toxic. Site your tree carefully. Put foil or a little cage around the edge to limit access. Shut unsupervised pets out of the room, especially at night.

The Presents A few years ago my own dog ended up at the emergency vet because in the one moment I was distracted and left the room, he immediately sniffed out and ‘opened’ one of the gifts I had left under my tree. It was from a relative and I did not know the contents contained a full pack of ‘quality’ drinking chocolate (meaning very high cocoa content). Delighted, my pooch snaffled the lot, leaving me with a ruined carpet and hefty vet bill. Cocoa is highly toxic and even fatal for dogs. Be careful with all your presents. All that rustling paper and glittery ribbon is enticing for dogs and cats alike. If ingested a vet emergency is certain. Plus, if your pup gets to the presents before your kids do, there’ll be tears on Christmas day! 24 | SE22 - December 2019

Dangerous Plants Holly, Ivy, mistletoe, and many types of favourite festive foliage are toxic, both to cats and dogs. Pups in particular love to investigate new things. A typical puppy-style investigation involves, sniffing, shredding and often, for a full analysis, ingestion!

Dangerous Foods Much of the stuff we love to eat will get our pets salivating away too. But a lot of the things we love are toxic for them; mincemeat, Christmas pudding, fruits like grapes and especially dried fruit, onion, garlic, anything with artificial sweetener, chocolate, myriad cakes and puddings, many nuts, alcohol…the list is endless. Unless your dog has an impeccable ‘leave’ and ‘stay’ (when you go out of sight) ensure he cannot access food. Cats are a law unto themselves, supervision or no access is vital.

Crate Train, Tether, Or Separate For young dogs and greedy dogs, crate training or puppy pens are a great way to limit access when full supervision is not possible. Give your pet wholesome chews to keep him happy when penned. Present opening and the big Christmas meal are times to keep your pet under control.

Adequate Play & Exercise So much is going on that it is easy to forget the exercise and play requirements of your pets. Don’t just make it the big postprandial family walk. Take time out to do some indoors training and play with your dog, this way he’ll settle. Puss also needs some fun. Flirt poles are a great way to play with cats, give her something legitimate to hunt and ‘kill’; that way she’s less likely to go after the baubles.

Practically Science Education News from Alleyn's | www.alleyns.org.uk Brett Goldspink, Science teacher at Alleyn’s Junior School believes that anyone can experiment, enjoy and ‘do’ science.

Keep it practical Hands on activities are the key to investigating scientific concepts. They drive a child’s enthusiasm and encourage them to ask why? With modern technology, the answers are just a tap away, and you can model for your child how to explore answers to scientific questions. Practical investigations can be as simple as using water soluble dyes in various glasses to play ‘mad scientists’. Colour mixing, making potions, or the quest to make the Philosopher’s Stone (yes, that recipe does exist) are all ways to ignite your child’s enthusiasm for science. Soak water beads (osmosis and absorption), drip different liquids onto coins (surface tension), mix varying quantities of sugar with coloured water to make layers (density), roll cars down ramps on various surfaces (friction) or collect autumn leaves and find out which trees they belong to (botany).

Put your thinking cap on An old favourite is the reaction between bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. Put a fizzy vitamin tablet in a film canister; after a while, the canister will explode. Your child can take what they want from the investigation. At the simplest level, there was a reaction that caused pressure to build up inside the canister, but if they want to know more investigate the answer online with them - allow their curiosity and enthusiasm to drive their desire to find answers.

Use technology There is a wealth of free resources online for science and investigation that can be done at home just with kitchen cupboard items and there are also monthly subscriptions to sites that send you a box of investigations – a Christmas gift that will last all year. Smartphones can allow children to experience science; virtual reality, augmented reality, and apps can all inspire and educate. 30 | SE22 - December 2019

Have a party A science themed party can be simple and cheap, and you can buy what you need from the supermarket. Make slime from PVA glue, Oobleck from cornflour, see who can pull a boiled egg out of a deep bowl of water using only chopsticks, use balloons and straws and make rockets to shoot down a string, or make teabag rockets that fly away.

Water, water everywhere Water is fantastic for science investigations. It reacts well with so many things without using chemicals. Take things that react well with water: health salts, ground up bath bombs, magic snow, freeze dried seaweed, Gelli Baff, kinetic sand and aromatic teas. Put a little of each in glasses and hydrate. Watch the wonder and amazement as your child experiences each reaction. Nurturing our children’s enthusiasm for the subject is essential for our future; they are the scientists of tomorrow.

Dulwich Hamlet FC www.dulwichhamletfc.london

L

@DulwichHamletFC | info@dhst.org.uk | 07951 640099

ast month saw Dulwich Hamlet playing in the front of the BBC2 cameras for their First Round FA Cup tie against Carlisle United. Great cup runs create such excitement and the team, supporters’ and the local community showed the viewing public why this is such a great football club and fully deserve the plaudits that have come our way in recent weeks. The sold out crowd of 3,330 saw the game finished with a four – one win for the visitors Carlisle United, however for long periods of the game The Hamlet matched them and we were pressing for an equaliser when Carlisle scored their third goal, which effectively ended the tie. In the end, the League Two club was simply too strong for Dulwich on the night. Sadly, in the run up to last weekend’s cuptie, the Supporters’ Trust had been informed that Farouk Menia, Coach of Dulwich Hamlet FC women’s team, had passed away after a long battle with cancer. The Supporters’ Trust sends its collective condolences to his family and two children. He leaves behind a strong women’s team that I know will continue to build on the foundations he helped create during the 8 years he had been involved with them. The football club and Trust recently collected coats for Wrap Up London (an organisation that works with local charities and community groups to assist the homeless). The coats then got redistributed to local charities and community groups who directly offer support to people who are homeless, refugees, older people and others facing crisis. Further information on how you can still donate can be found on their website: https://wrapuplondon.org.uk

@dhstorg

Sales of club merchandise, in the Mega-container club shop on match days and online (www. dhfcshop.co.uk), has been amazing through-out the season so far. In addition to the supporters’ Trust donating a percentage of the profits to the football club, the Trust uses some of the proceeds to invest directly in the club. Since September 2018, they have made direct financial investments into the club, of approximately £66,000. As well as through shop sales, much of this was also raised via the 100 Club lottery, so please consider joining via www.dhst.org.uk. As well as providing the club with capital support at a time of critical need, this investment has allowed the Trust to acquire (for the first time) a meaningful shareholding in the club (approximately 19%). They hold these shares on behalf of their members and the wider community and aim to build the community-held stake over time. Despite reaching the First Round of the FA Cup for the first time in 21 years, the men’s team have been struggling to secure in the league and are currently find themselves just outside of the relegation zone. In sharp contrast the Women’s team find themselves currently top of the league, although with second place QPR have a number of games in-hand. Future home fixture at Champion Hill, for both teams, can be found below. Giving is not a seasonal event

A

s we countdown to Christmas and witness shoppers buying goods as though there will be a post Brexit famine across the land, it is perhaps a good time to stop and think about those in less fortunate circumstances. After all it is the season of goodwill. However, I am often at a loss to understand why we cannot display goodwill 365 days per year rather than condense it into a short period towards the year end! At this time of the year the local charity Paxton Green Time Bank (PGTB) comes to mind. The charity is based in Kingswood House the home of Kingswood library. Local historians of Southwark will know it as the former home of John Lawson Johnston, the founder of Bovril. PGTB and its members do not just give to others during the season of goodwill. PGTB offers an exciting way for people to come together to help others and help themselves at the same time. Participants ‘deposit’ their time in the bank by giving practical help and support to others and are able to ‘withdraw’ their time when they need something done themselves. Time banks measure and value all the different kinds of help and skills we can offer each other. In a time bank, everyone becomes both a giver and a receiver. Everyone’s time is valued equally: One hour = 1 time credit. Participants can spend their time credits on the skills and support of other participants when they need a helping hand. People help each other out with everything from making phone calls to sharing meals and giving lifts to the shops – anything that brings them together. As such Time Banking has an economic benefit as well as improving well-being and building social networks. Despite PGTB having close on 500 members, they are always open to more volunteers. PGTB offers volunteers an opportunity to connect or reconnect with the local community 365 days per year and not only during the festive season or twelve days of Christmas.

Another local champion of giving not fixated to the festive season is Suzanne James, founder of the Suzanne James Food Foundation, who reminds us, “I am only a chef, doing my bit! However, what a bit Suzanne is really doing! Suzanne channelled 100% of the profits from her East Dulwich Supper Club into the Suzanne James Food Foundation (SJFF) to support local projects which involve young people and food. To date SJFF support has included: • A Butterfly Garden for a school in New Cross • Allotment Booty for a school in Peckham • A growing patch for a school in East Dulwich • £1000.00 for Cookery Classes to Westminster House Youth Club in Nunhead Anyone uncertain about supporting a charitable cause during the season or wishing to make a one-off gift should consider gift aid. Donations to a charity or a community amateur sports club via gift aid helps organisations to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donation. However, donors must be at least a basic rate tax payer. As Suzanne has demonstrated, charitable donation or support is not just the preserve of individuals. Small and large businesses can contribute to the many local or national charities who would welcome their support with open arms, during the festive season and throughout the year. It would be remiss to close without a reference to the Dulwich champion of local good causes. However, I leave readers to ponder on her name. In the words of a household supermarket “every little helps”. The donation of money or time should not be reserved only for the season of goodwill.

SE22 Councillors Dulwich Hill Councillor Maggie Browning

Summer Events It was great to attend street parties on Friern Road and Mount Adon Park in July (which seems a long time ago now!). Both were very well attended and residents put on a lovely spread of food and drink. Both street parties, and the more recent Dawson Heights summer event in September, were partially funded by the council’s Neighbourhood Fund. Each ward is allocated an annual fund which resident groups can apply for to fund community events. I also recently attended a coffee morning at St Clements Church on Friern Road, which was another great opportunity to meet with local residents, and discuss their concerns.

Speed Calming Measures We are currently working with council officers and councillors in neighbouring wards to deliver ambitious speed calming measures on Wood Vale. Wood Vale and Melford Road have both struggled with speeding issues and damage to their road surfaces for some time. We took the decision earlier this year to dedicate our entire ward Highways budget to resolving these issues. If you live on or near Wood Vale or Melford Road and would like to take part in the speed calming consultation, please go to www.southwark. gov.uk/woodvale. The consultation closes on 3rd December 2019. The initial Healthy Streets Dulwich consultation is now complete and officers are meeting with local stakeholders to share plans for installing various speed calming measures in Dulwich Hill. To find out more about these plans, you can go to www.southwark.gov.uk/ohs-dulwich Further consultation will take place in the new year with regard to specific roads.

Children in Care Celebration 2019 As a member of the council’s corporate parenting committee, it was a pleasure to attend the annual Children in Care Celebration awards ceremony in Bermondsey on November 7th. Young people and children in care from across the borough won awards in a range of categories, including music, art, sport and community champion. There was also a delicious sit down dinner for the nominees and their guests and a fabulous evening of entertainment, including some wonderful musical performances. The event was organised by council officers, led by Cllr Jasmine Ali, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Adult Care.

Council Housing in Dulwich Hill We are delighted that two new schemes to build council housing have been approved on Underhill Road and Henslowe Road. Underhill Road (pictured below) will have 3 x 4 bed council houses and Henslowe Rd will have 3 x 3 bed council houses. Family sized properties are desperately needed across the borough and we look forward to more schemes like this being approved.

Empowering Communities Meeting Our first Empowering Communities meeting took place on Wednesday 30th October at Belham Primary School. The meeting was open to all residents of Nu nhead & Queen’s Road, Dulwich Hill and Peckham Rye wards and focused on all issues relating to Peckham Rye Park, including Gala Festival. There was lively discussion SE22 - December 2019 | 35

Around Dulwich With Sarah Pylas | www.arounddulwich.co.uk |

T

is the season to be jolly… merry and bright, naughty and nice, bake gingerbread houses and eat mince pies. It’s a time when everything sparkles – from the windows on our high street to the sequins on our party skirts. We drink our wine warm, sip our chocolate hot, eat our chestnuts roasted on an open fire - or so the song goes – and add cinnamon and ginger to everything! I love the Christmassy feeling in the air, but not a day before 1st December. I was hoping the new Christmas rom-com with all the music by George Michael was going to be our December Film Club pick, but it came out in the middle of November! November is the month for fireworks, bonfires and kicking leaves, not for movies about an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. I’ll still go and see it though, obviously… This year, we are adapting some of our festive family traditions to have an eco-friendlier Christmas. I shall be giving more thoughtfully too and there are many ways to shop locally, support small businesses and the community this season. The Winter Makers Market (1 December) at Stag & Bow offers beautiful handmade items direct from the makers' hands. The Dulwich Village Christmas Stocking (1 December) is a free community event and features special offers in many of the independent shops with carols from local school bands and choirs, as well as a mystery Christmas stocking trail with prizes for children. A group of talented applied artists will bring you the latest in their collections of jewellery, knitwear, ceramics, stationery, prints, shaker style boxes, textiles and greeting cards at the Makers Market at Art@57 on North Cross Road (7 December). The 2019 East Dulwich Christmas Cracker (7 December) is a wonderful way to get in the festive spirit. This year’s street festival programme will include an exciting array of entertainment from choirs and performance groups, exclusive offers from the fantastic local traders, a suitably seasonal North Cross Road market with tempting gifts, delicious festive food and the return of the delightful Children’s Christmas Treasure Hunt in aid of Link Age Southwark. At Pexmas this year (7 & 8 December) you will find over 100 independent

boutique stalls offering prints, plants, bath products, ceramics, clothes, accessories, jewellery, homewares, foodie gifts, craft beers and wines and a million other things you never knew you wanted. The Dulwich Charity Lunch (5 December) will be held at The Lordship pub this year. Many local businesses have donated items for the charity auction, which will raise much-needed funds for Link Age Southwark. Come and share the joy of an afternoon with the seven Massive Violins (8 December). They perform jaw-dropping versions of famous songs – from Elvis to Adele, taking in the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Back Street Boys, Mozart, Shaggy and Clean Bandit. The Magic of Christmas Family Show (23 December) is a popular Christmas themed parlour magic show, now in the beautiful surrounds of Belair House. These are just a few of the many events in and around Dulwich this festive season. It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. I’ll see you on the other side! Details of all local events including ticket and booking information can be found on our website and Instagram @arounddulwich.
