October News By Sarah Pylas

I

love this time of the year. From the longer nights and the changing colour of the trees to wrapping up in warm coats, kicking leaves in long boots and snuggling up on the sofa with a big glass of wine. September always symbolises the start of a new year for me. It is when I first open the pages of my crisp new school year diary and when - after the excesses of summer - I adopt healthier habits (drink less rosé). Well, for at least a week anyway. Looking at how many new businesses popped up on our high street last month, it would appear I am not alone in choosing this month to launch something new. Following the successful opening of the M&S Food Hall on Lordship Lane was the long awaited for ED branch of Meat Liquor serving burgers, beer, fried chicken and cocktails. Over on Forest Hill Road, Lorenzo’s Restaurant moved into Si Mangia’s previous site. Most of the old fixtures and fittings remain, but the restaurant now offers the same menu as their Crystal Palace branch. Fans of pasta and pizza will not be disappointed, however, sadly for me, Si Mangia’s freshly made gluten free pasta did not make the cut. It is not just our local food establishments that have been branching out either. Bells Bathrooms and Kitchens opened a new kitchen showroom in their Lordship Lane premises, while Daisy Lets & Sales launched a new offering in Forest Hill. In the heart of Dulwich Village, The Groom Room rebranded as Porters Barbers, providing classical and contemporary grooming for today’s modern gentlemen. But in with the new does not necessarily mean out with the old. Push Studios celebrated 10-years of keeping our community fit and on their ballet pumped toes with classes ranging from Pilates, Zumba, yoga and ballet.

Meanwhile, local resident, Fiona Nott, hosted her popular annual Macmillan coffee morning for the 11th time, raising over £10,000 for the charity to date. Temperatures may be dropping, but there are still some fantastic things going on around Dulwich to warm you up this autumn. Blue Patch will be opening the first pop-up sustainable department store at St Barnabas Parish Hall on 1st October. This event will showcase the best of Britain’s ethical small businesses and in true department store fashion there will be something for everyone on the day. Plans for the next Herne Hill Music Festival (7-16 October) are also taking shape. This year’s programme offers local people the usual range of music from jazz, folk and blues, to family and children’s concerts. If you haven’t already seen it, October half term will be your last chance to visit the Dinosaurs: Monster Families exhibition at The Horniman Museum and Gardens. And lastly, the streets of Dulwich will get a spooky makeover as October draws to a close and a sea of ghouls, ghosts and green-faced witches will trick & treat their way from door to door. We will be following the pumpkin trail in the village again this year - it’s lots of fun! You can find details of all local news, events, and ticket information over on our website. Find us on Facebook and Twitter @arounddulwich.

Hectic Host

#LawrenceinFlorence

T

he worst mistake anyone can make at any domestic drinks party is to try to run a professional cocktail bar. Spirits will be used at different rates making it almost impossible to meet your guests’ requests and you will spend all night mixing and shaking, if not running to the shops. Instead invite friends over and serve a particular pre-planned cocktail, together with several choices for non-drinkers, they are often forgotten. One drink which is is almost impossible to get wrong is the ever so glamorous Negroni. Finding myself lucky enough to be seated very recently in the very bar were the drink was invented I decided, with its orangery hue, that this was the perfect autumnal aperitif and my cocktail of choice for the coming months. Count Camillo Luigi Manfredo Maria Negroni was born in Florence in 1868, he was a maverick nobleman who swapped the rolling hills of Tuscany for the barren landscape of the Wild West, where he lived the horse-back cowboy life. Presumably his drinking habits became hardened by the extreme frontier life and upon returning to Florence in 1919 he asked Fosco Scarselli, bartender at Café Casoni, to swap the soda water in his favourite Americano (a bitter Italian aperitif mixed with sweet vermouth and a splash of soda) for gin. A slice of orange, rather than lemon, was added and voila - the Negroni was born. The drink quickly became very popular, although due to the prohibition it would take over ten years for it to catch on in the US. America, and New York in particular, was the cradle of cocktail society; bartenders would vie to have their blend acknowledged as the definitive drink and recipes would be carefully catalogued. As the Negroni was invented overseas and at a time when drinking was outlawed in the US its history by the time it was adopted as a cocktail hour staple was a little cloudy. Indeed, some experts would disagree with my versions of events, however, from the evidence they seem the most likely and certainly the most engaging.

12 | SE22 - October 2016

Now named the Giacosa Café, the former Café Casoni is also sometimes referred called the Café Cavalli, due to its famous Florentine fashion designer owner and his eponymous flagship boutique located next door. Like the fashion of Pucci and Gucci, despite being something that I will always associate with Florence, The Negroni can be given the SE London treatment with the inclusion of Little Bird Gin, which is distilled in Peckham Rye. This is a drink you can easily pre -mix In advance of your party and pour as your guest arrive, remember the slice of orange and lots of chunky ice in a whiskey tumbler or old-fashioned. To make the perfect Negroni; one-part Little Bird Gin, one part Cinzano Rosso and one part Campari.

Check after 30mins – if the top starts browning too quickly, cover with a piece of grease-proof paper to prevent burning.

Fitness Tips

How To Successfully Hit Your Goals

W

hat drives a winning mindset, and how can you create an environment where you can avoid relapsing into old behaviours, break away from limiting beliefs and allow success to thrive?

A Winning Mindset There are many factors that make up a winning mindset. The first is general attitude. Presumably you're reading this article because you wanted to understand how you can improve yourself in the most efficient and time-effective way. In doing so, you’ve just demonstrated to yourself that you have some degree of motivation and desire to change, but here are some other important factors to consider:

Environment This is probably the most important of all. In 2015, I went on a 40-week brand accelerator programme. Going on the programme was one of the best business decisions I’ve ever made, but my personal performance levels went through the roof because I was taken into an environment where I was surrounded by entrepreneurs or well-known business leaders talking about how they solve meaningful problems. Never underestimate the power of environment for driving performance.

coach who has lost weight and mix with people who have achieved significant weight loss.

Strategy This links back to hustle. Hard work isn’t enough, there needs to be a strategy behind it. Having a really big goal is important, but you have to be patient. Set a big goal, then map your path to that goal by setting small targets which eventually add up to the big result. As you achieve these little wins, celebrate them, then move on to the next milestone. People who have a winning mindset will feed off results, and if they don’t see them, will become frustrated. So, map your way to your ultimate goal, celebrate along the way, be persistent and never lose focus.

Asking For Help Your general attitude is how you think, what you say to yourself and others, and how you behave. It’s about self-respect, and therefore the level of respect you have for others. Many of us are unaware of how we sabotage ourselves with negative thoughts and that’s why it’s always good to ask for help if you need it, whether it’s from someone who’s got what you want or a qualified expert.

Relationships Look around at who you associate with. Are they high-performing people? Look amongst your friends, work colleagues, your partner and even family. Is there someone there who is a toxic influence? Someone who is very negative or has a closedmindset? These people are unhealthy to be around and will affect your performance. Get rid of them. It’s up to you to remove yourself from them; you are personally responsible for who you spend time with. If your goals are to get fitter, spend time with people who are as motivated as you are about getting fitter, and people who have the fitness you want to emulate. If you want to lose weight, hire a fitness 16 | SE22 - October 2016

Pets Corner

My dog is just being friendly!

A

client complained to me that she was getting tired of having her dog labelled as a ‘problem’ dog by other dog owners. The issue is that her dog does not want to be friends with every dog she meets and, if pushed, will lunge and bark at some dogs that get into her face, especially if she is on the lead. It is increasingly the case that unless owners have a dog that is universally phlegmatic, happy to engage with dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, then there has to be a problem with that dog’s temperament…..right? Well no, dogs are individuals and some are just naturally more precious about their personal space. Some are born aloof, some may have had a scary dog encounter when young and now view all other dogs with suspicion, and others may feel unwell. The worst offenders are new puppy owners who believe that socialisation of their hound is best achieved by letting the pup or adolescent dog, jump all over every dog it meets out in the park or street. ‘She’s just a puppy, she just wants to say hello,’ says the newbie owner fondly as they watch their 4 month American bulldog puppy attempt to mob the 4 year old Yorkshire terrier. The ensuing fracas is only too familiar and in one brief exposure each dog may have learned to fear other dogs. A common misconception is that ‘puppy licence’ is a universal given. If dogs and pups are all members of the same family or social group then, yes, the older dogs may tolerate the pup’s physical impositions, but why would any adult dog feel it is fine to be ‘jumped’ and mobbed by a totally strange canine teenager when they are out and about minding their own business? Neither dog is at fault; that lies with the owners and primarily with the puppy owner. It is not just pups either. Owners of pushy dogs find it hard to accept that not all other dogs will love their pet as much as they do. Another familiar scenario is meetings between aloof or sensitive breed types and those dogs that have been selectively developed for over-friendliness (Labradors, Staffords, Pugs, to name a few). These are the breed types that adore everyone and everything, even burglars

20 | SE22 - October 2016

would be welcomed into their homes with a happy wag and panty grin. However, just as some humans fail to recognise the importance of personal space in their social interactions, some hounds are also bad at reading canine social signals. They’ll march up to any old dog they see and get in close and personal as soon as possible, failing to read the other dog’s signals to ‘back off’. Their owners stand and watch, proud and happy to own such a ‘friendly’ dog and are swift to blame the grumpy but space sensitive dog as it turns into a furry, snarling gremlin as the other pet approaches. I’d bet that pernickety dog got scared early by one of the more rambunctious breed types- ‘just trying to be friendly’- and has learned that attack is the best form of defence. A further obstacle is physical differences between dogs. Some have upright ears and no tailthey look challenging. Dogs with rounded faces and low slung ears, like spaniels, can look puppyish. Dogs with black faces are hard for other dogs to read, as are dogs with squashed faces or hair over their eyes. The wonder is that with so much variation that our dogs get on at all. The fact that they do speaks volumes for their adaptability and ability to learn. Nonetheless, if you do own a very friendly dog try to remember that other dogs may need much more space. Learn about dog body language (there are lots of quickie guides like this https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=00_9JPltXHI). Learn to interpret better what is going on and control your dog before things escalate. All dogs and their owners will benefit. Leonie St Clair - www.londondogstraining

“This year’s results firmly establish the academy as a leading secondary school in which students of all backgrounds and abilities do very well,” said Sir Dan Moynihan, CEO of the Harris Federation.

Eighty per cent of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and maths, compared to a national average this year of 66.6%.

Students at Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich are celebrating their strongest ever GCSE results.

b Celebrating success. One in four exams taken was passed with either an A* or A grade.

We have been in the top 3% of schools nationally for student progress for the past five years, according to Ofsted.

We also did very well on the demanding English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) measure. To achieve the Ebacc, a student must gain A*-C grades across five academic GCSEs – English, mathematics, history or geography, the sciences and a language. This year, 42.5% of our students achieved this, compared to a national average last year of 23%.

Dulwich Hamlet FC - News

News from the Supporters’ Trust

A

fter seven league games Dulwich currently sits in mid-table, however recent on-field performances show that Gavin Rose’s 2016/17 squad is starting to find the form that lead them to the league play-off final last season. In the First Qualifying round of the FA Cup, Dulwich travelled to West Sussex to play Southern Combination team Pagham FC. A comfortable 3-0 win saw the team into the pot for the Second Qualifying round which resulted in being drawn against fellow Isthmian Premier League team Hendon. This tie was due to be played at Champion Hill on Saturday 17 September. In the League Cup, a 4-0 win against Grays now sees the team visiting local South East London club Greenwich Borough in the next round. On 10th September three Dulwich Hamlet fans headed to Dunkirk to represent DHFC and take part in The Liberte Cup football tournament with people from the Grande-Synthe refugee camp and other football fans from across Europe. The tournament will feature in a documentary seeking to challenge the way the media portrays the refugee crisis. As well as playing in the tournament, many of the visiting football fans spent time volunteering in the camp to show solidarity with the refugees. Saturday 8th October promises to be an historic day as The Hamlet stage our first ever Trade Union Day. In a collaboration between the Dulwich Hamlet Football Club Committee and the Dulwich Hamlet Supporters' Trust all current Trade Union members will be able to attend our Ryman League Premier Division match at home to Bognor Regis Town for the concessionary rate of only £4, rather than the usual £10 admission charge. The special Trade Union Day will also be used to raise funds for the International Brigades Memorial Trust to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, through bucket collections from half-time onwards, with the Football Club also chipping in the proceeds from the '50/50' ticket sales on the day. http://dhst.org.uk/

Financial Matters

A Will to Direct the Destination of Your Estate

E

very day within our neighbourhoods at least one household is mourning the loss of a loved one, who has died, without any warning. Such is the fragility of life. Equally true many of these households have their pain exacerbated because the sudden departure of their loved one is compounded by the fact, their loved one did not get around to writing a Will. Such was the pain bestowed upon the family of a former client, who always had three items on her agenda to complete before she dies. Firstly, renovate her house; secondly, have a luxurious overseas trip; and finally write her Will. Sadly, she died having accomplished two of her three agenda items. Yes, that’s right, she never got around to putting a Will in place at the time of her death. Based upon the evidence from society, that does not seem to be a real issue. Why? According to research the majority of people do not have a Will. Some research findings quote 70% of the population do not have a Will in place, whereas other research is more generous and suggests its only 55% of the population who are without a Will. Whatever the percentage, the reality is the majority of people do not have a valid Will in place. It is often amazing why individuals relegate or postpone the writing of their Will to some unknown time and place in the future. Perhaps, they have it on good authority that they will be able to execute their Will before they disappear. If only this was true for all of those households who have lost loved ones without any notice or warning. If this applies to you, don’t feel alone. It is a phenomenon that is not confined to any particular socio-economic classification of people or fame as the family of comedian the late Rik Mayall found when he died prematurely in June 2014 and they faced a hefty inheritance tax (IHT) bill.

40 | SE22 - October 2016

The absence of a Will may not be the end of the world but it does exacerbate the problems as families come to terms with their loss. This is particularly frightening when it is superimposed with some myths about inheritance that is found to exist in society. For example, the often overheard myth of the common law partner. Where a cohabitee dies intestate (without a Will), the surviving party does not have any entitlement to the deceased’s estate. There is at least five major reasons why everyone should have a Will. 1) It allows you to determine the destination of your estate 2) It makes the administration of an estate less time consuming 3) You can choose the Executors of your estate 4) It’s a key part of your IHT planning 5) It reduces your IHT liability In addition, in the case where there are minors, a Will allows the appointment of guardians for the children in the advent of death. The great news is we are in October, which is Free Wills Month. This is where a group of household charities offer individuals over 55 years old the opportunity to have a simple Will prepared free of charge by participating local solicitors. If you are not old enough don’t despair because after October is November, which is Will Aid Month. This is a partnership between the legal profession and nine UK charities. Participating solicitors waive their fee for writing a basic Will and clients are encouraged to donate to one of the nine charities. There is now not a plausible excuse for putting that Will in place, especially if you have loved ones and you do not want to increase their pain when you die. Saturday 19 November: Concordia Chamber Choir For our autumn concert, the Concordia Chamber Choir is proud to bring together, in exciting combination, two composers of the first rank. One is a household name, the other slightly lesser known; one from the 18th century, the other still alive in the 21st. What links Johann Sebastian Bach and Arvo Pärt is their miraculous musical interpretations of the scriptures. The first half of the concert will feature several of Pärt’s dynamic, contemporary religious pieces including a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis; the second is taken up with Bach’s unique, magisterial Magnificat in which the choir will have the great pleasure of being accompanied by the South Circular Orchestra. If you’d like some advice on how to fill in the form, what things typically cost the council or any other support please get in touch. http:// www.southwark.gov.uk/cleanergreenersafer Past schemes have included things like upgrading street lighting, more street trees, traffic calming, playground equipment. We have around £80,000 to allocate this year. So come on tell us how you think we could physically improve the area…

Denmark Hill Station For those of us that use this station it can feel dangerous now it is so popular and the rebuild seems to have exacerbated this problem. Local resident Caroline Pidgeon is one of the Greater London Authority Assembly Member and chairs its Transport Committee. She kindly agreed to visit and see the problems first hand. We’ve been campaigned for a second ticket machine asking Southwark Council to accelerate planning permission now granted – it is now close to being installed which should help reduce conflict between people buying tickets and those entering and leaving the station. But so much more needs to be done to make this station safer. Do you use this station? How do you think it should be improved?

School Admissions I’m sure most parents with children coming up to school age or transition from one school to another are already getting organised visiting schools, reading brochures. But just in case. Secondary school applications must be made by the 31 October. Primary schools application you have until the 165 January. http://www.southwark. gov.uk/schooladmissions

National Park City I fully support this campaign to make London a greener, healthier, fairer and a more attractive place to live and work. It needs London councillors to give there support. In our area only Cllr Rosie Shimell and I have signed up to this cross party campaign. We need you to help convince other local councillors. When enough wards 44 | SE22 - October 2016

have all confirmed they support this the campaign it can move to the next step. Please lend us your support www.nationalparkcity.london/ward_support

Boundary Commission Every 10-20 years the Boundary Commission review council ward boundaries and parliamentary constituencies. These changes are intended to ensure similar numbers of voters are in each electoral area. Unusually both have happened around the same time for our area. For council ward boundaries the current East Dulwich ward is effectively being split into two. A new Goose green ward centred around the roundabout of the same name and a new ward called Dulwich Hill centred around Barry road. This later name seems especially odd as the area around Sunray Avenue has historically been called Dulwich Hills. The new ward boundaries take effect 2018 elections. The parliamentary boundaries are also proposed to change. The current Dulwich & West Norwood mostly loses West Norwood but keeps that name and instead extends more towards Camberwell. Unless 2/3rds of MP’s vote for an early general election these new boundaries - assuming MP’s agree the boundary changes – will take effect during the 2020 general election.

Free Swim and Gym Southwark Council now offers free swim and gym facilities, including at our Dulwich Leisure Centre on Crystal Palace Road that we had completely renovated not so long ago. This is funded through health budgets devolved to local councils by the last government. So all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm you can swim of use the gym for free. See this website for fuller details or pop along and ask about this at reception. The online sign-up isn’t great but please stick with it. www. everyoneactive.com/southwarkfreeswimandgym/ And yes we’re still working on getting the aircon fixed. And the new operators contracted by Southwark Council do seem to be offering a much improved service overall. So please do give it a try. Garden Talk

The Many Shades Of Autumn

K

eep the colour going in your garden long after summer. While summer planting has had its moment, there are plenty of plants that are absolutely at their peak right now. Here’s my pick of the key ingredients to make your garden dazzle its way into winter.

Must Have Trees Amelanchier lamarckii - One of my favourite trees for a small garden, for many reasons, not least its stunning orange/red autumn leaves. Particularly nice as a multi-stem. Sorbus ‘Joseph Rock’ (Rowan) - Another fab tree for a town garden (max height 10m) with scarlet leaves and clusters of yellow berries in autumn. Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ (Japanese maple) - A neat and elegant acer with purple leaves turning intense scarlet in autumn. At 6m tall it’s fine for most town gardens.

Glowing Perennials Sedum ‘Matrona’ - Sedum gets better throughout the autumn. This one has clusters of starry, pale plum flowers, coppery foliage and striking dark purple stems. Or try sedum ‘Ruby Glow’ with deep red flowers. Lovely with silvers and grasses. Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii ‘Goldsturm’ Even if you don’t usually like yellow in your garden, you might make an exception for these lovely golden daisies with their striking black eye that’ll light up the garden until October. Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora ‘Star of the East’ - Another sunny choice, this crocosmia has large orange brown flowers into October and a clump of lovely green sword shaped leaves adding summer interest. Verbena bonariensis - With small clusters of purple flowers atop long stems, this looks great popping up amongst grasses and complements warmer yellows. Symphyotrichum ‘Little Carlow’ (Aster) - The gentle lavender blues of asters go with anything. I love ‘Little Carlow’ with its mass of small violet blue daisies into mid autumn, (1m). Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’ is another to look out for.

Gorgeous Grasses Stipa gigantea - If you have room, (they can reach 2m) this is king of grasses with airy oat-like flower heads turning pale yellow in autumn - wonderful when back lit. 46 | SE22 - October 2016

Calamagrostis x acutifolia ‘Karl Foerster’ A tall upright grass with straw coloured flowers in autumn. Stipa calamagrostis has similar flower heads, but has shorter arching branches. Miscanthus sinensis ‘Kleine Silberspinne’ - Some miscathus can be huge but this one (up to 1m) doesn’t take up too much space and the purple flower heads turn silvery in autumn and shimmer beautifully in the light. Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’ - Known as foxtail grasses, pennisetum come into their own in autumn with their pretty fluffy seed heads. This one has long lasting pink flowers and yellow foliage in autumn (1.2m). But there are masses of others to choose from.

Stunning shrubs Cotinus ‘Grace’ (Smoke bush) - A gorgeous shrub with large rounded purple leaves turning a brilliant pinky red in autumn. Reaching 6m it’s great for screening, but keep it contained by hard pruning in spring. Ceratostigma willmottianum ‘Forest Blue’ (Chinese plumbago) - This smaller shrub (up to 1m) will light up the garden with its mass of cobalt blue flowers into October when the foliage turns rich red too. Cornus sanguinea ‘Midwinter Fire’ - With pretty green leaves in summer, this is really grown for it’s bright orange-yellow autumn foliage revealing colourful stems with fiery red tips in winter. Stunning against a dark green backdrop. Cut down to the base in March for the best colour. Barbara Samitier - Garden Designer www.barbarasamitiergardens.co.uk

The Last Word – Anne Coates The one thing you couldn’t do without? Friendship. I always leave home earlier than I need to as I always meet someone for a chat along the way.

Your favourite place for a night out? This must be Dulwich Picturehouse. I am a founder member so my name is up on the wall. Cinema is one of my passions so combine that with good food and wine and you have a perfect evening.

Where are you likely to be found on Saturday? Often walking down North Cross Road looking at the market stalls and enjoying the ambiance.

The best meal I’ve ever had Most recently this was brunch at The Palmerston where I had a Pea Fricassé which is served with avocado between the layers and two poached eggs on top. Dairy and gluten free – what more could I ask? Except for more coffee! It was delicious.

What’s your favourite place to go for a drink? So many to choose from but The Palmerston takes some beating. Anne has worked both as a freelance editor and a writer, having had published seven nonfiction books and two collections of short stories. As a journalist she has contributed to national newspapers and women’s magazines. She lives in East Dulwich with three cats who are still waiting to become characters in her fiction. Her début crime novel, Dancers in the Wind, is published this month by Urbane Publications.

Where’s your favourite place to walk?

How long have you lived in the area?

The book I’m reading at the moment

East Dulwich has been my home for over 30 years. I wrote the first draft on my crime novel in the early 90s. The heroine lives in my house so to speak and when I decided to rewrite it last year and try for publication, I was immediately aware of all the changes to the area I had witnessed. Lordship Lane was hardly the vibrant place it is now and there were more butcher’s shops than trendy places to wine and dine. My local has transformed from the Crystal Palace Tavern to the CPT to its current incarnation as The Great Exhibition.

Where my heart used to beat by Sebastian Faulks.

What one thing would you change? I would increase the amount of affordable housing especially for young people who were brought up here but cannot rent or buy a place of their own. 48 | SE22 - October 2016

We’re blessed with some wonderful green areas and I particularly love wandering around Peckham Park. A walk can help me sort out a plot problem in my fiction.

When I want to relax I enjoy being with my family and friends sharing a meal and a glass of wine or two.

My perfect holiday By the sea on a sandy beach with places to explore as well.

My secret ambition To see a film or TV adaptation of Dancers in the Wind! 'Dancers in the Wind' is published on 13 October. Urbane Publishers will release the sequel in May 2017. www.AnneCoatesauthor.com Twitter: @Anne_Coates1

“I have been advertising in SE22 and SE23 magazines for over 8 years and find it not only a great read, but also a really useful tool for local marketing and a proven way of attracting local business. I can highly recommend Angela and SE magazines and I remain a loyal client!” Peter Bennison, P. M Bennison Heating Ltd ‘’As a relatively new business set-up, I have advertised in two editions of SE22; and as a result have received five new clients (four direct, and one referral). I’m very happy with this response, and Angela provides an excellent, efficient service, and couldnyt be more helpful! Many thanks.’’ Lynne Walsh, Flourish Gardening “I recently had double glazed windows fitted in my bedroom, a job very well done in every way by Bespoke Windows. They look pleasing and work very well. I found this company in SE22 Magazine, a useful and informative local monthly publication.” Dotty Todd “SE21 and SE22 magazines have been great for us in connecting with the local community and attracting people to our events. More importantly our ads have brought forward volunteers who are interested in becoming befriender, group helper or driver – roles we need to fill more and more to help alleviate isolation and loneliness in older people of Southwark. Thank you SEMags for all your support – keep up the good work!” Jennie Linnett, Dulwich Helpline & Southwark Churches Care.
