After working mainly on a series of large-scale Abstract Expressionist paintings, he has been revisiting his earlier narrative and figurative styles, in a series of paintings on a smaller scale. His Expressionist work reflects great energy and power, in a manifestation of a deep sense of freedom and lyricism—although the more recent figurative work is less gestural and more minimalist. His more narrative work, addressing concerns of a social and political nature, is reflective, and depicts imaginary, mythological characters.

Yasir Nieves was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, in 1977. He began drwaing at an early age, influenced by his older brother Angel Nieves, who inspired the ability of caricature, which later awakened his curiosity for painting. With the caricaturesque vision, he develops freehand drawings in ink, pencil, and charcoal drawings. This skill becomes a mean for monetary income instead of a mere pastime, as he began selling his caricatures, creating company logos, promotion flyers, scenographies, and billboards. In 1995, Nieves begins his first two years at the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo at the Humanities department, then switches to study Massage Therapy at the Alma Q Institute in Isabela, PR, where he obtained his certificate. After a three year absence from the University of Puerto Rico, he decided to re-enroll, this time in Ponce, PR. This is Yasir’s most active year, as he created over forty pieces of art, was counselor to five artists, designed the student’s exposition and completed two large paintings (12’x12’). These were published in the Master’s annual catalog with good reviews from professors and art professionals. Nieves resides in Orlando, where he continues painting. When printmaking began to diminish in popularity among collectors and institutions in the eighties, García Rivera not only refused to abandon the medium but expanded his prints into larger and larger formats. He says that the human figure has always been at the center of his work, and that he uses it as a metaphor for various issues that concern him, such as racial, political, and religious identity and the psychological states that govern human life. Javier Dones was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico in 1967. Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1990 from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. Currently living and working in Saint Petersburg, Florida since 1992. “My native land is the tropical paradise of Puerto Rico. The island is both, exuberant in natural beauty and rich in culture. All elements feel intense, like loud voices. When it comes to the expression of the arts, I often execute my work with the same intensity and loudness. The voices of nature are the ones that speak loudest to me. Especially the hidden icons of sacrosanct spontaneity. The perfect designs that would elude the usual attention. My current work springs from that lifelong fascination for the natural elements.Copper is the main working material, but also other metals; natural pigments and enamels are often incorporated in the pieces. Chemistry processes and techniques as developed by the Master of the Arts, Jack Lebowitz, are my vehicles.”The pieces you enjoy were created using the powder metals and enamels technique. The coloration and textures are the result of interactions between elements elicited by our unique chemical process. Jose A. Marrero is a contemporary artist from Puerto

Rico. Jose won an art competition and was given a grant to study a course in art at the University de Puerto Rico in his early twenties. His love of art was shaped by the many visits at an early age to picturesque galleries and cobble streets along San Juan. Renown singers in Puerto Rico like Ismael Rivera, Jr., Sammy Gonzalez and others have recorded Jose’s compositions over the years; with the latest being, “El Gran Meñique”. His agile mind finds its way into the canvas or into a music composition. If Jose cannot find the correct lyric at the time, his idea gets depicted into the canvas. In other words, he can paint the idea, as seen in the painting “Los Cuatro Ciegos”. In Art, Jose has been inspired by artists like Modigliani, Van Gogh, Picasso, Braque, etc. Geometric Cubism is Jose’s favorite style of painting, although you can see in his paintings figurative, abstract and expressionist art . In Jose own words, “the privilege of creating is a way of being in the world, it is about discovering while you paint”. Communicating to people through his paintings, touching peoples souls or emotions. Jose opens his world to us with his joyful personality and own radiant palette of colors. All of his paintings are originals, no copies. Jose has exhibited at Artegon Marketplace in Orlando, Florida and is currently exhibiting at the Wine & Art Stroll in Celebration, Florida.

Michael Irrizary-Pagan was born in New York City. His family was filled with artists and craftsmen. I believe that I was born into the right environment; my mother would always have clay, pencils, and small things to stimulate creativity, along with all the family members involved in making some form of art. “I never attended a formal art school. My schools were the many art galleries and museums of New York City. I would have to say that I am self taught. That my teachers were the many painters and individuals I encountered through out my life and travels. It is my belief that work should always pay homage to those from who I learned so much, that it should always question social norms and challenge my vision of how to present that artistically. I attempt to create works that I hope stimulate discourse, hopefully in a humorous, serious, and enlightening manner”.
