Boriken habla: Gráfica de ayer y hoy “Custodios del patrimonio” y New Concept Barbershop and Art Gallery están muy orgullosos de presentar la exposición “Borikén Habla: Gráfica de ayer y hoy”. Esta presentación es producto de la colaboración entre los coleccionistas Ramón Papo Rosario y Angel Rafael Rosado; dos gestores que por más de treinta años se han dedicado a trabajar mano a mano a favor del arte puertorriqueño. Tambien se destaca en esta exposición la importante participación de un selecto grupo de Artistas contemporáneos. Esta muestra incluirá una selección de obras ejecutadas por destacados artistas que se han desempeñado exitosamente en los diferentes medios de la gráfica como lo son la xilografía, litografía, intaglio y la serigrafía.

Borikén Habla: Gráfica de ayer y hoy presenta desde obras producidas por el grupo de Maestros Artistas que pertenecieron a la generación de los años 50, hasta Artistas de la época actual que han adoptado la gráfica como parte de sus propuestas.

La colección de obras incluye cerca de 40 piezas de Artistas reconocidos internacionalmente. Los visitantes podrán apreciar desde imagenes costumbristas hasta propuestas que abrazan la abstracción como medio de expresión. Borikén Habla ofrecerá una vista panorámica sobre la gran aportación que han estado haciendo los Artistas puertorriqueños ayer y hoy; para visibilizar la identidad de quienes compartimos como origen la isla de Borikén.

Boriken habla: gráfica de ayer y hoy “Keepers of Heritage” and New Concept Barbershop and Art Gallery are very proud to present the exhibition “Borikén habla: Gráfica de ayer y hoy”. This presentation is the resultof a collaboration between collectors Ramón Papo Rosario and Angel Rafael Rosado; two art enthusiasts who for more than thirty years have dedicated themselves to working hand in hand in favor of Puerto Rican art. The important participation of a select group of contemporary artists is also highlighted in this exhibition. This exhibition will include a selection of works executed by prominent artists who have successfully performed in the different graphic media such as woodcut, lithography, intaglio and screen printing.

Boriken habla: gráfica de ayer y hoy presents from works produced by the group of Master Artists who belonged to the generation of the 1950s, to Artists of the current time who have adopted graphics as part of their proposals.

The collection of works includes nearly 40 pieces by internationally recognized Artists.

Visitors will appreciate everything from traditional images to proposals that embrace abstraction as a means of expression. Borikén Habla will offer a panoramic view of the great contribution that Puerto Rican Artists have been making yesterday and today; to make the identity of those who share the island of Borikén visible.

José Feliciano Datos biográficos José Feliciano nació en Isabela, Puerto Rico, en 1939. Tenía solo cinco años cuando su familia se mudó a Nueva York. José estudió en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte en New York City. Su experiencia incluye haber sido Artista para Joe Papp’s Public Theatre, Metropolitan Opera House’s en la producción de “Antonio y Cleopatra,” y “La Flauta Mágica” diseñada por Marc Chagall. También diseñó escenografías para Off Broadway Theater, para películas y television.

José fué tambien artista residente en Adelphi University donde diseñó el escenario para el ballet “The Voyages of Odysseus.” Para este tiempo tambien participaba en exposiciones colectivas y presentó varias exposiciones individuales en galerías de Nueva York donde recibió reseñas favorables en publicaciones como el Riverdale y The Bronx News. En el 2001 se mudó a Florida y comenzó a ejercer como maestro de arte. Ha estado comprometido a la educación de los niños y adultos con discapacidad por los últimos quince años. José fue nominado maestro del año en los años 2007 y 2009. Ha estado tambien participando en exposiciones colectivas donde ha recibido premios de National Arts Program y Osceola Arts.

Biographic details José M. Feliciano was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, in 1939. He was 5 years old when his family moved to New York. José studied at the Art Students League in New York City. His experience includes shop artist at Joe Papp’s Public Theatre, The Metropolitan Opera House’s production of “Anthony and Cleopatra,” and “The Magic Flute,” designed by Marc Chagall. He also designed scenery for Off Broadway Theater, film and television. Feliciano was also an artist-in-residence at Adelphi University where he designed the scenery for the full length ballet ‘The Voyages of Odysseus.” At that time he was also participating in collective art exhibits and presented several solo art shows in different galleries of New York, receiving good reviews from newspapers like “The Riverdale” and “The Bronx News.” In 2001, he moved to Florida and started a career as an art teacher. He has been very committed to educating children as well as adults with varying disabilities for the past 15 years. José was nominated Art Teacher of the Year in 2007 and 2009.

He has participated in numerous collective art exhibits and he received several awards from the National Arts Program and Osceola Arts.

Osiris Delgado Datos biográficos Pintor, escritor e historiador. Estudió filosofía e historia en la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Florencia y el Real Instituto de Bellas Artes de Porta Romana en Italia. En 1939 asistió a la Academia Vavin y la Académie de la Grande Chaumière de París.

También asistió a la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando en Madrid y, de vuelta en la isla, a la Universidad de Puerto Rico, donde obtuvo un bachillerato en artes. En 1954 obtuvo un doctorado en filosofía y letras de la Universidad de Madrid.

Ha realizado una extraordinaria labor en el estudio, el rescate y la preservación del arte puertorriqueño. Es autor de importantes libros, entre éstos Historia de las artes plásticas en Puerto Rico y Cuatro siglos de pintura puertorriqueña. Dirigió el Departamento de Bellas Artes y el Museo de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y ha pertenecido a juntas directivas de diversas instituciones culturales del país. En su obra de estilo realista predomina el género del retrato en composiciones que se distinguen por su excelente dominio técnico de la luz y el color.

Biographic details Painter, writer, and historian. Delgado studied philosophy and history at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and the Porta Romana Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Italy. In 1939 he attended the Académie Vavin and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. He also attended the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, and, on his return to the island, the University of Puerto Rico, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree. In 1954 he completed his PhD at the Universidad de Madrid. Delgado has done extraordinary work in the study, rescue, and preservation of Puerto Rican art. He is the author of important books, among them Historia de las Artes Plásticas en Puerto Rico (“A History of the Plastic Arts in Puerto Rico) and Cuatro Siglos de Pintura Puertorriqueña (“Four Centuries of Puerto Rican Painting). He directed the Department of Fine Arts and the Museum of the University of Puerto Rico and has been a member of the boards of directors of several island cultural institutions. He is especially known for his portraits, which are distinguished by Delgado’s fine technical mastery of light and color.

Alfonso Arana Datos biográficos Alfonso Arana, (Nueva York, EU, 1927 - París, Francia, 2005) Pintor. De padre mexicano y madre puertorriqueña, se trasladó a México en 1942, donde estudió con el pintor José Bardasano. En 1947, luego de cursar en el Manhattan School of Art en Nueva York, ingresó a la Academia Julien y a la Academia de Bellas Artes de París. Luego de viajar por América del Sur se radicó en Puerto Rico en 1954, donde completó un Bachillerato en Artes en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1961, para luego continuar estudios graduados en la American University en Washington, D.C. En 1972 se trasladó a París, donde desarrolló una fructífera y exitosa carrera. Establece la Fundación Alfonso Arana en 1986, en la que distribuye becas a artistas talentosos puertorriqueños para estudiar pintura en París. Obtuvo un sinnúmero de premios y reconocimientos, como la Medalla de Oro en el Salón de Artistas Franceses, en París; Medalla de Plata de la Asociación de las Artes, Ciencias y Letras, en París; Medalla de Bronce en el Salón Internacional de Andorra; y el Primer Premio en la categoría de pastel en la exposición de la IBEC, en Puerto Rico, entre muchos otros. En el 2001 recibió del gobierno de Francia la Medalla de la Orden de Caballero de las Artes y las Letras, por su extraordinaria obra artística y por su labor cultural como presidente de la Fundación Arana. Su obra es caracterizada por las figuras humanas, sobre todo desnudos blanquecinos y rostros que conservan una apariencia de máscaras. Sus imágenes incluyen elementos de la mitología clásica, junto a figuras imaginarias tomadas de la realidad caribeña.

Biographic details Painter. Born of a Mexican father and Puerto Rican mother, he moved to Mexico in 1942 and studied under painter José Bardasano. In 1947, after studying at the Manhattan School of Art in New York, he joined the Julien Academy and the Fine Arts Academy of Paris. After traveling through South America, he arrived in Puerto Rico in 1954 and completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Puerto Rico in 1961, later continuing his graduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C. In 1972 he moved to Paris, where he developed a fruitful and successful career. He established the Alfonso Arana Foundation in 1986, which offers painting scholarships in Paris to talented Puerto Rican artists. He received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Gold Medal of the French Artists Salon in Paris; the Silver Medal from the Association of Arts, Science and Letters in Paris; the Bronze Medal of the International Salon in Andorra; and First Prize in the pastel category at the IBEC exhibition in Puerto Rico, among many others. In 2001 he received the Medal of the Order of the Gentlemen of Arts and Letters from the French government for his extraordinary artistic work and his cultural endeavors as president of the Arana Foundation. His work is characterized by human bodies, especially whitish nudes and mask-like faces. His images include elements of classic mythology together with imaginary figures based on Caribbean reality.

Augusto Marín Datos biográficos Alfonso Arana, (Nueva York, EU, 1927 - París, Francia, 2005) Pintor, dibujante, artista gráfico, muralista, escultor, vitralista, y profesor. A los doce años estudió dibujo con el español Alejandro Sánchez Felipe en su taller-escuela de San Juan. En 1949 se trasladó a Nueva York y estudió en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte. En el Instituto de Arte Otis, en California, estudió diseño de murales y en el taller de Arnaldo Maas en San Juan y el de Henri Mesterom en Holanda, la técnica del vitral.

Trabajó como director artístico de publicidad y fue profesor de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico y la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Ha realizado una decena de murales en edificios públicos y privados en San Juan y su obra pictórica y gráfica figura en importantes colecciones dentro y fuera de Puerto Rico. En 2005 recibió el Premio Nacional de Cultura (en arte) que otorga el Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña.

La figura humana –a menudo representada en grupos– ha sido siempre el eje de su interés, y su relación con ella se ha ido transformando a través del tiempo. El caballo es otro de sus motivos recurrentes y la política local uno de sus temas favoritos. En términos de estilo, Marín ha tenido diversas etapas, desde el abstraccionismo hasta la figuración, con matices intermedios.

Biographic details Painter, draftsman, print maker, muralist, sculptor, stained-glass artist, and teacher. At the age of twelve, Marín began studying drawing under Spaniard Alejandro Sánchez Felipe at Sánchez Felipe’s studio in San Juan. In 1949, Marín moved to New York and studied at the Art Students League. At the Otis Art Institute in California he studied mural design, and at Arnaldo Maas’s studio in San Juan and Henri Mesterom’s studio in Holland he studied stained-glass techniques. He has worked as advertising art director and has taught at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico and at the University of Puerto Rico. He has created a dozen murals for public and private buildings in the San Juan area, and his works are part of important collections in Puerto Rico and abroad.

In 2005 he earned the National Culture Award from the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. The human figure, often in groups, is a central motif in his work, and Marín’s relationship to this figure has evolved over the course of his career; the horse is also a recurring motif. One of his favored subjects is island politics. Marín’s style has gone through several phases, from Abstraction to Figuration, and through points between, and is distinguished by its sculptural qualities.

Domingo García Datos biográficos Domingo es uno de los artistas más reconocidos en el arte puertorriqueño contemporáneo.

Comenzó su carrera en la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes de Nueva York y en el Chicago Art Institute, y más tarde estudió pintura en Inglaterra con William Locke. A su regreso a Puerto Rico en 1959 estableció Taller-Galería Campeche, que dirigió durante nueve años. También contribuyó al establecimiento de Galería Cayman en Nueva York en 1976 y de Galería Latinoamericana en San Juan en 1988. Ha trabajado como profesor en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico y se unió al Capítulo de Puerto Rico de la Asociación Internacional de Críticos de Arte. en 1992. Destacó entre los reconocimientos importantes que ha recibido la Beca Guggenheim en 1972 y el Primer Premio de la Fundación Nacional de las Artes en Washington, DC en 1980. Ha trabajado principalmente en naturalezas muertas, paisajes y retratos. Sus retratos y autorretratos se distinguen por su fuerza expresiva y profundidad psicológica. Su trabajo revela la influencia de diversas corrientes, como el expresionismo, la abstracción y el arte pop, así como un interés en la armonía y el uso del color.

Biographic details Domingo is one of the most renowned artists in contemporary Puerto Rican art. He began his career at the National Academy of Fine Arts in New York; and the Chicago Art Institute, and later studied painting in England with William Locke. Upon his return to Puerto Rico in 1959 he established Taller-Galería Campeche, which he directed for nine years. He also contributed to the establishment of Galería Cayman in New York in 1976 and Galería Latinoamericana in San Juan in 1988. He has worked as a professor at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts and joined the Puerto Rican Chapter of the International Association of Art Critics in 1992. Highlighted among the important recognitions he has received are the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1972 and First Prize from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1980. He has worked mainly in still-lifes, landscapes, and portraits. His portraits and self-portraits are distinguished by their expressive strength and psychological depth. His work reveals the influence of diverse currents, such as expressionism, abstraction, and pop art, as well as an interest in harmony and the use of color.

Carlos Irizarry Datos biográficos Pintor, artista gráfico y digital, diseñador gráfico. A finales de los años cuarenta emigró a Nueva York y estudió en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño de esa ciudad. Posteriormente trabajó como pintor y diseñador comercial y se unió al taller de artistas Amigos de Puerto Rico. En 1968 regresó a Puerto Rico.

Aquí cofundó el Centro Nacional de las Artes en San Juan y creó la Galería 63, dedicada a promover el arte de vanguardia. En 1976 fue encarcelado en Estados Unidos por realizar un acto de expresión artística de carácter subversivo. Ha tenido una notable incursión en las artes gráficas por el uso de técnicas novedosas, y fue el primer artista puertorriqueño en emplear la técnica de la fotoserigrafía. El uso de la fotografía y la yuxtaposición de imágenes son características constantes en su producción figurativa, que se destaca por los mensajes críticos y sociopolíticos de la realidad nacional e internacional. Recientemente, ha incorporado el lenguaje digital a su proceso creativo.

Biographic details Painter, printmaker and designer, and digital media artist. In the late 1940’s Irizarry emigrated to New York and studied at the School of Art and Design in that city. Later he worked as a commercial painter and designer and joined the Amigos de Puerto Rico artists’ studio. In 1968 he returned to Puerto Rico, where he co-founded the National Center for the Arts in San Juan and created Gallery 63, which was dedicated to promoting avant-garde art. In 1976 he was imprisoned in the United States for an act of artistic expression of a subversive nature. His work in the graphic arts is recognized for its employment of novel techniques, and he was the first Puerto Rican artist to work in the photo-silkscreen process. The use of photographs and juxtapositions of images are constants in his work, which is characterized by its critique of the local and international social and political situation. He has recently incorporated digital media into his work.

Rafael Colón Morales Datos biográficos Pintor. Estudió en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, en la American University, Washington DC y en la academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Ha sido profesor en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, en el Broooklyn Community College, y la Escuela de Arte del Museo del Barrio, ambas en Nueva York. Se distinguió en los setenta en la pintura, interesado por la experimentación de medios y técnicas, especialmente la que desarrolla con la aplicación de capas de polímeros acrílicos que luego sustrae para crear texturas y transparencias cromáticas en su obra. Su vocabulario expresivo se debate entre la figuración y la atracción en la recreación de escenarios cargados de profundo misterio y de un intenso sentido metafísico.

Biographic details Painter. Studied at Universidad de Puerto Rico, at American University, Washington, DC and at Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid, Spain. He has been Professor at Universidad de Puerto Rico, Broooklyn Community College, and the Art School from el Museo del Barrio, both in New York. During the seventies, he made a name for himself through painting, interested with the experimentation of mediums and techniques, especially with the one developed with the application of layers of acrylic polymers which he then removes to create textures and chromatic transparencies in his work. His expressive vocabulary wavers between figuration and attraction in recreating sceneries loaded with profound mystery and a deep metaphysical significance.

Felix Rodriguez Baez Datos biográficos Pintor, artista y diseñador gráfico, escenógrafo, caricaturista y profesor. Estudió arte con Hipólito Hidalgo, Nino Sparacino, Ángel Botello, Federico Enjuto, Luisina Ordóñez, Edna Coll y Clara Schwabe. En 1949, junto a José A. Torres Martino, fundó Estudio 17, una escuela de arte para niños, y en 1950 fue cofundador del Centro de Arte Puertorriqueño. Su primer estudio se llamó Chez les Artistes. En la década de 1970 pintó murales públicos y en los ochenta hizo caricaturas en defensa de la cultura. Fue maestro y director de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico y dirigió la División de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña en 1988. Ha sido escenógrafo, director de programación televisiva, ilustrador de libros y productor de publicidad.

Cultiva el realismo social, en el que refleja las condiciones de vida en los barrios urbanos sanjuaneros. Muestra preferencia por el retrato, el paisaje urbano y rural, la barriada y los asuntos de la política nacional.

Biographic details Painter, graphic artist and designer, set designer, cartoonist, and teacher. Rodríguez Báez studied art under Hipólito Hidalgo, Nino Sparacino, Ángel Botello, Federico Enjuto, Luisina Ordóñez, Edna Coll, and Clara Schwabe. In 1949, he and José A. Torres Martinó founded Estudio 17, an art school for children, and in 1950 he co-founded the Center for Puerto Rican Art. His first art studio was named Chez les Artistes. In the 1970’s Rodríguez Báez created several public murals, and in the 1980’s he produced cartoons that dealt with the defense of culture. A faculty member and director of the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts, in 1988 he headed the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture’s Division of Plastic Arts. He has been a set designer, television director, book illustrator, and advertising producer. His work is done in the vein of Social Realism, through which he reflects on the conditions of life in the neighborhoods of San Juan. His most frequent subjects include portraits, urban and rural landscapes, the poorer neighborhoods, and insular political issues.

Felix Rodriguez Baez, “Las calabazas”, serigrafía sobre papel, 30”x 40”, 2001

José Rosa Datos biográficos Grabador y pintor. Se inició en el arte con el pintor Rafael Tufiño e hizo su aprendizaje gráfico en la División de Educación de la Comunidad, en el Taller-Galería Campeche dirigido por Domingo García en San Juan, y con Lorenzo Homar en el Taller de Gráfica del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. De 1973 a 1986 fue director de dicho taller de gráfica, donde perfeccionó su maestría en el medio de la serigrafía. En su obra capta de forma jocosa imágenes y temas propios de la cultura popular puertorriqueña, como la vida en el bar, el baile, la política y la religiosidad de nuestro pueblo. A partir de la década de los setenta desarrolló una obra novedosa, caracterizada por integrar la palabra a la composición en calidad de elemento gráfico. En 1998 fue homenajeado por la XII Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano y del Caribe. Su pintura muestra paralelismos visuales con su obra gráfica, enfatizando el dibujo, la limpieza de las líneas y la delimitación de las formas.

Biographic details Printmaker and painter. Rosa first studied art under Rafael Tufiño; his training in the graphic arts took place in DIVEDCO, at the Campeche Studio and Galllery run by Domingo García in San Juan, and under Lorenzo Homar at the Graphic Arts Workshop of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. From 1973 to 1986, Rosa was director of that Workshop, where he became a master of silkscreen technique. In his work he captures images and subjects associated with the popular culture of Puerto Rico, such as bar life, politics, and the religiosity of the island’s people, generally in a humorous, amusing manner. In the seventies he developed a novel style characterized by the integration of text into his compositions, using the text as a graphic element. In 1998 he was honored at the Twelfth San Juan Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Prints. His paintings have visual parallels with his graphic art, and are characterized by an emphasis on the underlying drawing and by the sharpness of the lines and the figures’ outlines.

Analida Burgos Datos biográficos Artista gráfica, grabadora y cartelista. Obtiene un Bachillerato en Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1971 y continúa sus estudios en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, donde hace una especialidad en Artes Gráficas. Burgos fue la única mujer en colaborar como cartelista en el Taller de Gráfica del Instituto de Cultura durante los años ochenta. También se destacó como uno de los miembros fundadores de la Hermandad de Artistas Gráficos de Puerto Rico en 1981. En 1976, obtiene el Segundo Premio de Grabado del United Federal Savings en San Juan. Participa en varias exhibiciones de grabado puertorriqueño, entre estas, la Estampa serigráfica en Puerto Rico del 1987 en el Museo de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y en los 45 Años de expresión gráfica puertorriqueña del 1992, en el Pabellón de Puerto Rico en Expo ’92, Sevilla, España. Su obra se caracteriza por la meticulosidad de los espacios y de las superficies, el carácter expresivo de sus letras, en adición al uso de textura en finos trazos lineales.

Biographic details Graphic artist, printmaker and poster artist. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico in 1971 and continued studies at Escuela de Artes Plásticas of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, where she specializes in Graphic Arts. During the 1980’s Burgos was the only woman to collaborate as a poster artist at Taller de Gráfica from Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. She is also noted for been one of the founding members in 1981 of Hermandad de Artistas Gráficos de Puerto Rico. In 1976, she obtained Second Prize in Printmaking from United Federal Savings in San Juan. She participated in several exhibitions of Puerto Rican prints, among these, Estampa serigráfica en Puerto Rico in 1987 at the Museum of the University of Puerto Rico and 45 Años de expresión gráfica puertorriqueña in 1992, at the Puerto Rico Pavilion at Expo ’92 in Seville, Spain. Luis Hernandez Cruz Datos biográficos Pintor, escultor, artista gráfico y profesor. Estudió en la Universidad de Puerto Rico bajo la tutela de Cristóbal Ruiz y obtuvo su maestría en artes de la American University en Washington, D.C. Contribuyó al nacimiento del arte abstracto en Puerto Rico en los años sesenta. En 1977 fundó el grupo Frente junto a Paul Camacho, Antonio Navia y Lope Max Díaz, y en 1984 presidió el Primer Congreso de Artistas Abstractos en Puerto Rico. Fue profesor de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico y la Universidad de Puerto Rico, cuyo museo dirigió. A pesar de un breve interés temprano (entre 1966 y 1968) en la geometría como elemento esencial, su obra pictórica estuvo marcada durante los años setenta y ochenta por una abstracción más orgánica, y en los noventa regresó paulatinamente a la abstracción geométrica pura, la cual recientemente ha combinado con elementos abstractos más líricos y menos decantados. Si algo distingue la producción de este artista es su dominio magistral del color.

Biographic details Painter, sculptor, printmaker, and teacher. Hernández Cruz studied at the University of Puerto Rico under Cristóbal Ruiz and obtained a master of fine arts from the American University in Washington, D.C. In the sixties, he was influential in the introduction of Abstract Art in Puerto Rico. In 1977 he, Paul Camacho, Antonio Navia, and Lope Max Díaz founded Grupo Frente, and in 1984 Hernández Cruz chaired the First Congress of Abstract Artists in Puerto Rico. He has taught at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts and at the University of Puerto Rico, where he also directed the Museum of Anthropology and History. After a brief, early insistence on geometry as an essential element in his art (1966–1968), his work developed into a more organic abstraction during the seventies and eighties, although it then gradually returned to a pure geometrical abstraction in the nineties. Recently he has also explored more lyrical, less rigidly abstract elements.

One element that has distinguished his work throughout his career is his masterly use of color.

Rafael Rivera-Rosa Datos biográficos Rafael Rivera-Rosa nació en Comerío, Puerto Ricoen 1942. Es pintor, artista gráfico, artista digital, diseñador gráfico y profesor jubilado. Obtuvo su formación con Domingo García en el Taller-Galería Campeche y con Lorenzo Homar en el Taller de Gráfica del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. Junto a René Pietri y Nelson Sambolín, fundó en 1970 el Taller Bija, donde se generó una destacada producción de carteles políticos o de compromiso ideológico.

Hizo un bachillerato en Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y al completar su maestría en Artes Plásticas en el Pratt Institute de Nueva York en 1990, se integró al Departamento de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y en la Escuela de Bellas Artes y Diseño. Desde 1995 es el Artista Residente de la Colección de Arte Contemporáneo Puertorriqueño de la Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples de Puerto Rico. Después de haber trabajado mayormente una pintura de corte expresionista abstracto de gran formato, ha revisitado la narrativa y la figuración de décadas anteriores, utilizando el pequeño formato. Su obra expresionista refleja una gran energía que alude a un profundo sentido de libertad y lirismo, aunque el trabajo figurativo reciente la ha transformado, haciéndola menos gestual y más minimalista.

Su obra más narrativa es reflexiva, y presenta personajes mitológicos imaginarios que parecen aludir a preocupaciones de índole social y política.

Biographic details Rafael Rivera-Rosa was born in Comerío, Puerto Rico in 1942. He is a painter, graphic artist, digital artist, graphic designer and retired university professor. Rivera-Rosa studied with the artists of the “Fifties Generation,” among them, Domingo García at the Campeche Studio and Gallery and Lorenzo Homar at the Graphic Arts Workshop of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. In 1970, Rivera-Rosa, René Pietri, and Nelson Sambolín founded “Taller Bija,” which produced an impressive output of political and protest posters.

He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico and his Master of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in New York and in 1990 he began to teach at the University of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico.

Since 1995 he has been artist-in-residence of the Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples de Puerto Rico’s Contemporary Art Collection. After working mainly on a series of largescale abstract expressionist paintings, he has been revisiting his earlier narrative and figurative styles in a series of paintings on a smaller scale. His expressionist work reflects great energy and power in a manifestation of a deep sense of freedom and lyricism. although the more recent figurative work is less gestural and more minimalist. His more narrative work, addressing concerns of a social and political nature, is reflective and depicts imaginary and mythological characters.

Carmelo Fontanez Datos biográficos Carmelo Fontánez Cortijo nació en Río Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico en 1945. En 1967 obtuvo Bachillerato en Educación con Especialidad en Artes Plásticas, en la Universidad de Puerto Rico.

En 1971 terminó la Maestría en Educación en Artes, en la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU). En 1974 cursó estudios en Historia de Arte Italiano, en la Universidad Para Extranjeros, en Perugia, Italia.

Se ha destacado como acuarelista, dibujante y pintor. Ocasionalmente ha hecho incursiones en la gráfica y la escultura. Ha participado en numerosas exposiciones individuales y colectivas en museos, galerías, instituciones universitarias y centros culturales. Su obra pictórica, cuya trayectoria se inicia a finales de la década del ’60, ha sido galardonada en diversos certámenes de arte, auspiciados por el Ateneo Puertorriqueño, la Universidad de Puerto Rico, la Revista Sin Nombre, instituciones bancarias y corporaciones privadas. También ha sido premiado, en más de una ocasión, por el Capítulo de Puerto Rico de la Asociación Internacional de Críticos de Arte. Su obra forma parte de importantes colecciones, tanto públicas como privadas, entre las que cabe mencionar: Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de Bayamón, Museo de Arte de Mayagüez, Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, Ateneo Puertorriqueño, Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples de Puerto Rico, Compañía de Turismo de Puerto Rico, Banco Popular, entre otras.

Carmelo Sobrino Datos biográficos Pintor, muralista, escultor, dibujante y grabador. Hizo sus primeros estudios de arte con el pintor Oscar Colón Delgado en Hatillo. En 1964 ingresó en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, donde estudió bajo la tutela de los maestros Fran Cervoni, Rafael Tufiño y Augusto Marín, entre otros. En 1969, junto al artista Antonio Martorell, fundó el Taller Alacrán para enseñar artes gráficas a jóvenes, y en 1971 fundó el Taller Capricornio con el mismo propósito. Ha sido profesor en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan, Casa Candina y la Universidad del Turabo en Gurabo. Desde el 2000 ha trabajado murales por comisión de diversas instituciones. La temática de su obra es diversa, inspirada en el bodegón y la belleza del paisaje puertorriqueño. Su técnica de aplicar el color a manera de pequeñas manchas, líneas rectas, triángulos y círculos, se traduce en imágenes vibrantes, refrescantes, llenas de energía: poesía del color.

Recientemente ha vuelto a interesarse en el realismo y el constructivismo.

Biographic details Painter, muralist, sculptor, draftsman and printmaker. Sobrino first studied art under painter Oscar Colón Delgado in Hatillo. In 1964 he began to study at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts under Fran Cervoni, Rafael Tufiño, and Augusto Marín. In 1969, Sobrino joined with Antonio Martorell to found the Alacrán Studio, whose purpose, in addition to the production of prints and other graphic-arts projects, was to teach graphic arts to young people. Ramón Mojica Datos biográficos Ramón Mojica es un artista puertorriqueño nacido en el pueblo de Dorado. Desde temprana edad mostró una inclinación hacia el dibujo y la pintura. Visitando museos y galerías; logró educarse de tal forma que pudo desarrollar su talento y crear un estilo muy personal.

Mojica ve la pintura como vehículo de expresión y como terapia recreativa. Usa colores brillantes en sus pinturas, las cuales se caracterizan por la variedad de la técnica y los temas, entre los que destacan desnudos, escenas típicas, y en ocasiones figuras expresionistas.

Biographic details Ramón Mojica is a Puerto Rican artist born in the town of Dorado. From an early age he showed an inclination towards drawing and painting. Visiting museums and galleries; He managed to educate himself in such a way that he was able to develop his talent and create a very personal style.

Mojica sees painting as a vehicle of expression and as recreational therapy. He uses bright colors in his paintings, which are characterized by the variety of technique and themes, including nudes, typical scenes, and sometimes expressionist figures.

Wichie Torres Datos biográficos Wichie Torres, nacido en el seno Afro-Caribeño de Ponce, la ciudad principal del Sur de Puerto Rico, el 29 de Marzo de 1952. Desde pequeño sintió gran intéres por la costumbres y tradiciones puertorriqueñas, que causáron gran impresión en el, y como adolescente comenzó a capturarlas en dibujos y pinturas. Estudió tres años bajo la institutris, Profesora Carola Colón Coavas, más tarde en el 1967 continuó sus estudios con el Profesor Frank Cervoni en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, en Puerto Rico.

En el año 1969 ingresa en la Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, terminando su Bachillerato. Wichie Torres luego se translada a New York donde adquiere más destrezas y conocimientos con el Profesor Rafael López Sustachí. En el 1973 tomó otro rumbo diferente esta vez hacia Mexico donde estudió en la Academia de Arte de San Carlos. Desde entonces Puerto Rico ha sido su gran inspiración.

En el año 1992 el Cardiólogo de Wichie Torres determina que éste necesitaba de un transplante de corazón con mucha urgencia ya que el mismo presentaba una condición viral, ese mismo año fue trasladado al Tampa General Hospital, donde se le practicó su primer transplante de corazón, su recuperación fue una muy satifactoria.

Este ha venido presentando al público su extensa obra desde entonces. Tambien ha llevado a cabo númerosas exposiciones individuales, y ha participádo en cuantiosas colectivas tanto dentro de Puerto Rico como tambien en el exterior.

Luego de once años disfrutando de su segundo corazón, en el 2004 su familia vuelve a ser impactada con una mala noticia, este necesita de un segundo transplante de corazón, esta vez fue recluido de emergencia en el Centro Cardiovascular de San Juan, Puerto Rico, donde el 5 de Julio de ese mismo año, procede recibir su segundo transplante de corazón, pasando a ser este la primera persona retransplantada en todo el Centro y el Caribe, teniendo una maravillosa y exitosa recuperación.

Wichie Torres es un artista polífacético donde sus estilos y transciciones a lo largo de su carrera han dejado entre-dicho su majestuosa facilidad de adaptarse a los cambios. El Gran Exito y la aceptación del público le han permitido dedicarse plenamente a crear Obras Maestras.

Bographic Details Wichie Torres , born in the rich Afro-Caribbean stew of Ponce, the principal city of southern Puerto Rico, On March, 29, 1952.

The Puerto Rican traditions and costumes caught Wichie Torres felling and interest ; they although made a big impression on him and as a young boy he began to capture them on drawings and paintings. He began his art studies with Professor Carola Colón Coavas in 1967 ; later he continued studying with Frank Cervoni at the School of Plastics Arts in the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture, in Puerto Rico. He attends the Catholic University of Puerto Rico through a scholarship.

Mister Wichie Torres then moved to New York , where he studied under Rafael Sustachi. In 1973 he took a different road, this time to Mexico where he studied at the San Carlos Academy of Arts. But Puerto Rico continued to be his greatest inspiration and since he has returned to celebrate his home in paintings.

In 1992, Wichie Torres Doctor discovered he had a heart disease and needed an urgent a heart transplant, in August of the same year he proceed to received his first heart transplant in the Tampa General Hospital of Florida, his recovery was successful, and was allowed to continue painting this time changing his style. His form of living change completely, he was more thankful for his life.

Again in the year 2004 a shocking notice came again to his family, this time he needed a second heart transplant, the doctors said he has no longer life. He was recluse immediately in the Centro Cardiovascular of San Juan, Puerto Rico for two month and the 5 of July of that year; he received his new second heart transplant, being the first person to received a second heart transplant in all the Center and the Caribbean naving a very successful recovery again.

Wichie Torres who has lived and survey with three hearts, has been a very polyfacetic artist, his phases has been well establish and known. The great success and the public acceptance of his magnificent pictorial art have allowed him to dedicate plentifully time to create Masterpieces.

Moises Castillo Datos biográficos Nace en Ponce el 25 de enero de 1964. Desde su niñez hasta la edad de 30 años se crió en Peñuelas. Sus primeras inquietudes como pintor comenzaron a la edad de 11 años copiando trabajos de su hermano mayor, Lucas Castillo, quien por un tiempo se destacó como pintor paisajista. A temprana edad ya trabajaba rotulando negocios, produciendo artesanías y pintando murales en su pueblo Peñuelas.

Fue discípulo de dos amigos y maestros ponceños: Iván Rosario y Wichie Torres. Cursó estudios en la Universidad Interamericana, recintos de Ponce y San Germán, en el Departamento de Artes Plásticas, así como en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Viejo San Juan, Taller de Pintura Mural con Fran Cervoni, Seminario de Arte Contemporáneo con Jorge Luis Morales y técnicas de enmarcado con Iván Rosario Jr. Ha asistido a varios seminarios relacionados a la planificación de exposiciones. Se han publicado reportajes especiales y parte de su obra en varias revistas y publicaciones de arte. Algunas de sus comisiones han sido: “Los Cinco Sentidos de un Sabor”, de Heineken; y la “Historia de una Empresa”, hoy llamada Cemex de Puerto Rico. En diciembre de 2007 recibe la Medalla de Plata “Lorenzo il Magnifico” en la Sexta Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Florencia, Italia, por la obra “Puerta a lo Desconocido”. Actualmente ofrece conferencias sobre su arte, incluyendo a su vez su experiencia sobre cómo superar la crisis de salud. El mayor logro alcanzado en su carrera ha sido reconocer que todo lo que es, lo que ha logrado y lo que espera alcanzar, se lo debe al Señor Jesucristo, quien cambió su vida y la paleta de su corazón.

Bographic Details He was born in Ponce on January 25, 1964. From his childhood to the age of 30 he grew up in Peñuelas. His first concerns as a painter began at the age of 11 by copying works by his older brother, Lucas Castillo, who for a time stood out as a landscape painter. At an early age he was already working labeling businesses, producing handicrafts and painting murals in his town Peñuelas. He was a disciple of two friends and teachers from Ponce: Iván Rosario and Wichie Torres. He studied at the Interamerican University, Ponce and San Germán enclosures, in the Department of Plastic Arts, as well as in the School of Plastic Arts of Old San Juan, Workshop of Mural Painting with Fran Cervoni, Contemporary Art Seminar with Jorge Luis Morales and framing techniques with Iván Rosario Jr. He has attended several seminars related to exhibition planning. Special reports and part of his work have been published in several magazines and art publications. Some of its commissions have been: “The Five Senses of a Taste” by Heineken; and the “History of a Company”, today called Cemex of Puerto Rico. In December 2007, he received the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Silver Medal at the Sixth International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy, for the work “Door to the Unknown.” He currently offers lectures on his art, including his experience on how to overcome the health crisis. The greatest achievement achieved in his career has been to recognize that everything he is, what he has achieved and what he hopes to achieve, is due to the Lord Jesus Christ, who changed his life and the palette of his heart.

Jesús Gonzalez Datos biográficos Jesús Gonzalez nace en Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. Desde muy pequeñosintió inclinación hacia el dibujo y la pintura. En 1970, siendo estudiante de escuela superior conoce a Rafael Cartagena, Maestro de arte, quien lo alentará a continuar estudios en las artes plásticas. Estudia en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, Universidad Interamericana y Rochester Institute of Technology, en Nueva York.

Luego formó parte de la facultad de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Bayamón, donde fue fundador del taller de serigrafía. Ha coordinado proyectos de arte itinerante dentro y fuera de la Universidad de Puerto Rico con destacados Maestros de las artes del país. Por mas de treinta años ha desarrollado una pintura personal nutrida por una constante laboriosidad. Su trabajo ha sido exhibido en numerosas galerías, museos, y uiversidades dentro y fuera del país. Muestras de su trabajo están presentes en el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de Ponce, Museo del Barrio en Nueva York, Museo de Antropología y Arte de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de las Américas, OEA, School of American Craftman, Rochester Institute of Technology, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, y la Universidad Interamericana entre otros.

Biographic details Jesús Gonzalez was born in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. From an early age he felt inclination towards drawing and painting. In 1970, when he was a high school student, he met Rafael Cartagena, an art teacher, who encouraged him to continue studying in the plastic arts. He studied at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, Inter-American University and Rochester Institute of Technology, in New York.

Then he was part of the faculty of the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamón, where he founded the screen print workshop. He has coordinated itinerant art projects inside and outside the University of Puerto Rico with outstanding Masters of the arts of the country. For more than thirty years he has developed a personal painting nourished by a constant industriousness. His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, museums, and uiversities inside and outside the country. Samples of his work are present in the Art Museum of Puerto Rico, Ponce Museum of Art, Museum of the Neighborhood in New York, Museum of Anthropology and Art of the University of Puerto Rico, Museum of Art of the Americas, OAS, School of American Craftman, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of the Sacred Heart, and the Interamerican University among others.

Lizette Lugo Datos biográficos Artista gráfica, dibujante y pintora. Estudia su Bachillerato en Artes Visuales en la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón en Santurce y en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan, donde se le otorga una beca de estudios. De 1994 a 1999 establece su propia galería, Sala de Arte, en el Viejo San Juan. Ha sido reconocida internacionalmente por su trabajo serigráfico. Ha exhibido individualmente en Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos y Venezuela. Ha participado en muestras colectivas en Polonia, Noruega, España, Estados Unidos, Venezuela, Colombia, República Dominicana y Francia. Ha representado a Puerto Rico en bienales y trienales de grabado. Su obra se encuentra en numerosas colecciones públicas y privadas.

Isabel Vazquez Datos biográficos Pintora, grabadora, ceramista, creadora de instalaciones y educadora.

Estudió en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña donde obtiene un Bachillerato en Artes en 1971. Ese mismo año el ICP le otorga una beca para estudiar en la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de la Universidad Complutense en Madrid, España y en 1972 obtiene otra beca de estudios del Instituto de Cultura Hispánica de Madrid. En 1982 obtuvo una Maestría en Artes del State University of New York at Buffalo en Buffalo, Nueva York. Durante los años de 1990 al 1993 realizó estudios doctorales en la Universidad de Valladolid en España y de 2004 al 2005 en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ha recibido reconocimientos en Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos, Santo Domingo y España, y ha participado en un sinnúmero de eventos locales e internacionales. Ha sido profesora en la Escuela de Artes Plasticas de Puerto Rico, Taller de Bellos Oficios de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y en Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña en Puerto Rico. Biographic details Painter, printmaker, ceramist, creator of installations and educator. Vázquez studied at Escuela de Artes Plásticas from Institute of Puerto Rican Culture where she obtained a BFA in 1971 That same year the ICP awarded her a scholarship to study at Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain and in 1972 she obtained another scholarship from Instituto de Cultura Hispánica in Madrid. In 1982 she earned a MFA from State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. During the years of 1990 to 1993 she carried out doctoral studies at Universidad de Valladolid in Spain and from 2004 to 2005 at Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Marcos Alegría Datos biográficos Natural de Dorado, Puerto Rico. Marcos A. Alegría nace en el seno de la reconocida familia de artistas y figuras destacadas en el ámbito cultural puertorriqueño.

Graduado de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña en San Juan de Puerto Rico. Recibió su preparación académica de parte de grandes maestros: Augusto Marín, Fran Cervoni, Rafael Lopez del Campo y Ernest Roselle entre otros. Se ha destacado en su carrera profesional por ser un reconocido artista plástico, del vitral y del mosaico.

La obra artística de Marcos Alegría ha sido expuesta en importantes galerías y museos de Puerto Rico, España, Colombia, Estados Unidos, Cuba y República Diminicana.

En su propio taller, Alegría elabora sus pinturas originales, gráfica artística y el diseño y producción de mosaicos y vitrales.

En la sede principal de VAPR Federal Credit Union se encuentran en exhibición permanente: un compendio de vitrales diseñados por el artista que revisten los ventanales del Salón de Juntas, un cuadro en gran formato titulado Así somos, una selección de pinturas originales y una escultura de pared. Todas estas obras de Marcos Alegría fueron comisionadas al artista por el Comisionado de Arte René Castillo-Ramos en representación de VAPR Federal Credit Union, para formar parte de la colección de Arte Puertorriqueño de la cooperativa.

Ha participado y ha sido invitado consistentemente desde 1990 de bienales y trienales de grabado en el mundo y ha recibido distinciones y premios en lugares diversos como Polonia, Canadá, Estonia, España, Macedonia, Estados Unidos, Italia, Rusia, Egipto, Suecia y Puerto Rico. Bographic Details Martín García-Rivera was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico in 1960. He began his studies in art with Roland Borges Soto at the Trina Padilla de Sanz High School in the same town. He completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Education from the University of Puerto Rico in 1983. He was inspired bythe artworks of José Alicea, José Rosa and Carlos Raquel Rivera. In 1986 he traveled to New York, and studied at the Pratt Institute until 1988. His teachers were Walter Rogalski and Vasilious Toulis. While in Manhattan, he made it a habit to visit the Printmaking Workshops and established a friendship with Robert (Bob) Blackburn. On his return to Puerto Rico in 1989, he became a regular visitor to Lorenzo Homar’s workshop in Río Piedras. Martin worked as an associate professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras for 29 years; where he taught drawing, painting and printmaking. Since 1990 he has been invited to printmaking biennials and triennials around the globe and has received awards and prizes in Poland, Canada, Estonia, Spain, Macedonia, the United States, Italy, Russia, Egypt, Sweden and Puerto Rico. Rafael Trelles Datos biográficos Pintor, grabador, creador de instalaciones y diseñador de escenografía y vestuario.

Comenzó sus estudios con Julio Yort, pintor catalán radicado en Puerto Rico. Al finalizar su bachillerato en artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (1980), viajó por varios países de Europa. En 1983 se fue a México para hacer estudios posgraduados en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (Academia San Carlos). Vivió en las Islas Canarias, donde realizó la serie de pinturas Tarot del Universo y regresó a Puerto Rico en 1986. Desde entonces se dedica a su obra y a trabajar con el grupo plástico-literario El Alfil (imagen y palabra), que cofundó en 1994. Su obra se nutre de referencias tanto a la obra surrealista de Max Ernst como a la mitología y la literatura universal. Su pintura, de impecable factura, es un viaje a un mundo esotérico y fantástico de personajes asombrosos en escenarios oníricos donde se siente la soledad. Recientemente ha incursionado en el arte público con imágenes que “dibuja” con manguera a presión sobre el hollín de muros, aceras y otros espacios, lo cual llama “gráfica urbana”.

Bographic Details Painter, printmaker, installation artist, and stage and costume designer. Trelles began studying painting under Julio Yort, a Catalan painter living in Puerto Rico. After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Puerto Rico in 1980, he traveled throughout Europe. In 1983 he went to Mexico City to begin graduate studies at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (Academia San Carlos). For a time after that he lived in the Canary islands, where he completed a series of paintings called The Universal Tarot, and he returned to Puerto Rico in 1986. Since then he has dedicated himself to his work and to the art group El Alfil (Image and Word), which he co-founded in 1994. In his work he employs references to Surrealist Max Ernst and to mythology and worlld literature. His pictorial technique is impeccable, and the viewer is taken on a voyage to a fantastic and esoteric world of amazing characters in dreamlike settings, where solitude reigns.

Recently he has done public art by “drawing” images with a pressure hose on walls, sidewalks and other surfaces, a genre he calls “urban graphic art.”

Hizo estudios de ingeniería civil en el Colegio Universitario de Bayamón de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y luego ingresó a la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, donde entabló amistad con Dennis Mario Rivera y Jorge Zeno, y estudió dibujo y grabado con Fran Cervoni y José Alicea. También fue alumno en el Departamento de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y en 1976 hizo un viaje de estudios a Madrid. A su regreso, en 1977, fundó la Galería Ausubo en Caguas. Wilmer Colón Datos biográficos Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, 19 de noviembre de 1963. Procedente de una familia con tradición artística. Su abuelo materno fue alumno del maestro Don Miguel Pou y una buena parte de sus familiares han sido vinculados al arte. Esta familia realmente lo expuso de niño al arte. Inicialmente, la formación autodidacta recibió instrucción individualizada y técnicas de artistas como Ivan Rosario, Moises Castillo y Torres Wichie.

Finalmente estudié formalmente en el Centro Universitario de Columbia, la Escuela de Arte de Puerto Rico, la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico y la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico. En estas instituciones fue impartida por los artistas Nilda Rivera, Yvette Cabrera, Vanessa Hernández Gracia, Eric French y Damari Burgos, entre otros.

Su obra ha sido expuesta en su país natal y en Estados Unidos, España, Chile, Cuba, Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras y República Dominicana, entre otros.

His maternal grandfather was a student of Don Miguel Pou teacher and a good portion of his relatives have been linked to art. This family really exposed him as a child to art.

Initially self-taught training received individualized instruction and techniques of artists such as Ivan Rosario, Moises Castillo and Torres Wichie. Eventually studied formally at the Columbia University Center, the School of Art of Puerto Rico, Inter American University of Puerto Rico and the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Ada Rosa Rivera Datos biográficos Artista puertorriqueña natural de San Juan. Se ha desempeñado como Prfesora de la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Bayamón, y de la Escuela de Artes Plàsticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico. Ha sido colaboradora desde el año 2000 de el Programa de Educación del Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico en Santurce, impartiendo talleres y conferencias. Es coordinadora del colectivo de artistas independientes de Las Jornadas del Grabado Puertorriqueño. Su obra gràfica se ha exhibido en galerías y bienales nacionales e internacionales. Practica las técnicas del grabado no-tóxico. Completóestudios en maestría en Artes Visuales con especialidad en grabado en la Academia San Carlos, adscrita a la Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM). Noín Rivera Datos biográficos Nace en Arecibo. Comienza sus estudios en arte con el profesor Rafael Velázquez en la escuela superior Pablo Ávila en Camuy, Puerto Rico. Luego continúa sus estudios con el artista y profesor Roland Borges soto, en La Academia y Centro De Arte en Arecibo Puerto Rico.

En 1985 se traslada a la ciudad de Ponce para terminar un bachillerato en biología en la Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico. Tomando un curso de dibujo con el artista Julio Michelli. Y conociendo al artista Wichie Torres.

En 1993 hasta el 1997 estudia en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas, en san juan P.R. Entre el año 1999 y el 2006 estudia figura humana en Los Altos de Chavón, R.D. En el año 2000 comienza estudios posgraduados en la Universidad interamericana recinto de San German Puerto Rico dirigidos al dibujo, pintura y grabado obteniendo en el año 2002 el grado de Master of Fine Art (suma cum laude) Fue profesor en la Universidad Interamericana Recinto de San German, Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Arecibo, Universidad Interamericana Recinto de Arecibo y Dewey University en el pueblo de Manatí Puerto Rico.

Pertenece a la asociación de artistas plásticos de Puerto Rico (A.P.A.P) afiliada a la Unesco Participo en la única actividad dedicada a los artistas puertorriqueños en Puerto Rico .La Campechada desde su primera edición hasta el 2016. Fue miembro de Plástica Latina internacional, Taller Abacoa. En el año 2016 se traslada al estado de Texas .

Entre sus exposiciones más relevantes se encuentran homenaje a Héctor Lavó, Museo las Américas en San juande Puerto Rico, Trayectoria museo Casa Escute , CarolinaP.R, Encabuya vuelve y tira, Universidad de Puerto Rico Arecibo. Biographic details Born in Arecibo. He began his studies in art with Professor Rafael Velázquez at Pablo Ávila High School in Camuy, Puerto Rico. Then he continues his studies with the artist and professor Roland Borges soto, at the Academy and Art Center in Arecibo Puerto Rico.

In 1985 he moved to the city of Ponce to finish a bachelor’s degree in biology at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Taking a drawing course with the artist Julio Michelli. And knowing the artist Wichie Torres.

In 1993 until 1997 he studied at the School of Plastic Arts, in San Juan P.R. Between 1999 and 2006 he studied human figure in Los Altos de Chavón, R.D. In the year 2000 he began postgraduate studies at the Inter-American University campus of San German Puerto Rico directed to drawing, painting and engraving obtaining in 2002 the degree of Master of Fine Art (sum cum laude) He was a professor at the Inter-American University Precinct of San German, University of Puerto Rico, Arecibo Campus, Inter-American University, Arecibo Campus, and Dewey University in the town of Manatí, Puerto Rico.

Belongs to the association of plastic artists of Puerto Rico (A.P.A.P) affiliated to Unesco I participate in the only activity dedicated to Puerto Rican artists in Puerto Rico. The Campechada since its first edition until 2016.

Eddrie Lerroig Datos biográficos Pintor puertorriqueño, nacido en San Juan en 1956, cuyo autodidacta lo llevó a participar en varios movimientos juveniles en la década de los años setenta. Desde muy joven mostró artes de hobby, particularmente en la música.

Su avidez por la música como expresión de arte, visitando galerías y ferias de artesanía, despertó el interés y entusiasmo por la pintura y la gráfica puertorriqueña.

Comenzó su obra gráfica en 1988, bajo la dirección del artista Luis Germán Cajiga.

Más tarde, en 1989, continuó su desarrollo artístico en su propio taller, donde se dedicó a la pintura e impresión de obras de arte, el diseño y la producción de carteles y la preparación de marcos para sus propias obras.

Realizó ediciones de serigrafía a empresas reconocidas, como: Sterling Pharmaceuticals, ICF Pharmaceuticals, Lotus Development, Fort Motor Credit, Roger Electric, Nieves Transport, la firma de abogados McConnell Valdés y Cellular One. Eddrie Lerroig no solo se ha expresado a través de su trabajo gráfico, sino que también ha explorado otros medios como la pintura. Su trabajo forma parte de una preocupación por la cultura y el paisaje puertorriqueño, lo que lo ha llevado a crear un trabajo personal popular, basado en sus raíces y tradiciones. “Simple e ingenuo” pinta sus imágenes, siguiendo su propio orden y utilizando colores tropicales. Como fuente de inspiración utilizaron el panorama puertorriqueño, la arquitectura, cuestiones de uso y costumbres y personajes de los pueblos.

Felix Bonilla Gerena Datos biográficos Félix Bonilla Gerena comenzó sus estudios de arte en Arecibo. Obtuvo su Bachillerato en Artes de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1992 y luego estudió en la Universidad de San Carlos de México y en la Universidad Autónoma de Caracas, Venezuela. Las pinturas de Bonilla se han exhibido ampliamente en todo Puerto Rico, así como internacionalmente en el Museo de las Américas en Miami y el Museo de las Casas Reales en la República Dominicana y se han presentado en notables muestras grupales en Filadelfia y Guadalupe. Su obra está incluida en muchas colecciones privadas internacionales, así como en las colecciones permanentes del Museo de Arte Moderno en la República Dominicana y el Museo de Arte Historia de Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Las pinturas de Gerena combinan formas figurativas y abstractas, ilustrando el paisaje utópico de su país con colores vivos y pinceladas expresionistas.

Comenzó a exponer con Tripoli Gallery en 2009, y desde entonces ha tenido varias exposiciones individuales con la galería. Gerena vive y trabaja en Isabela, Puerto Rico.

Biographic details Félix Bonilla Gerena began his studies in art in Arecibo. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the School of Plastic Arts at the University of Puerto Rico in 1992 and went on to study at the San Carlos University of Mexico and at the Autonomous University of Caracas, Venezuela. Bonilla’s paintings have been exhibited extensively throughout Puerto Rico, as well as internationally at the Museum of the Americas in Miami and the Museo de las Casas Reales in the Dominican Republic and featured in noteworthy group shows in Philadelphia and Guadalupe. His work is included in many international private collections, as well as in the permanent collections of the Museo de Arte Moderno in the Dominican Republic and the Museo de Arte Historia de Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Gerena’s paintings combine figurative and abstract forms, illustrating the utopic landscape of his country with vivid colors and expressionistic brushstrokes. He began exhibiting with Tripoli Gallery in 2009, and since then he has had several solo exhibitions with the gallery.

Gerena lives and works in Isabela, Puerto Rico.

Gilbert Salinas Datos biográficos Pintor y grabador. Es licenciado en Humanidades con especialización en Bellas Artes: Pintura, de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Ha mostrado sus obras en museos, galerías y salas de exposiciones en Puerto Rico y en el extranjero.

Ha participado en ferias internacionales de arte como SCOPE Miami Beach y Clio Art Fair en Nueva York, entre otras. Sus obras han aparecido en artículos de revistas de arte, periódicos y televisión. Sus obras se encuentran en museos y colecciones privadas de todo el mundo.

Bographic Details Painter and printmaker. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities with a concentration in Fine Arts: Painting, from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. He has shown his works in museums, galleries and exposition halls in Puerto Rico and abroad. He has participated in international art fairs like SCOPE Miami Beach and Clio Art Fair in New York, among others. His artworks have appeared in articles from art magazines, newspapers and television. His works are in museums and private collections around the world.

Angelica Rivera Datos biográficos Pintora. Sus estudios comenzaron a la edad de ocho años con la pintora Nora Rodríguez Vallés. A los nueve años ganó segundo lugar en un certamen artístico con un bodegón dibujado a pastel. En 1996 se graduó de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico con un Bachillerato en Artes Plásticas y concentración en Pintura. Fueron sus mentores, Domingo García, Mari Mater O’ Neill, Julio Suárez, Luis Felipe López y Juan Álvarez O’Neill, entre otros. Obtuvo una Maestría en Estudios Puertorriqueños en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe con una concentración en Arte. Ofreció clases de pintura a estudiantes de la Escuela de Diseño en Altos de Chavón, República Dominicana y de dibujo y pintura bajo el Programa de Extensión Sabatina de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico.

Ha tomado clases de intaglio básico con Haydée Landing. En el 2002 representó a Puerto Rico en el Segundo Encuentro Latinoamericano de Artistas Plásticos en Cuzco, Perú.

Biografic Details Painter. She began her studies at the age of eight with painter Nora Rodríguez Vallés. When she was nine, she won second place in an art contest with a still life drawn in pastel. In 1996 she graduated from the Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a major in Painting. Among others, her mentors were Domingo García, Mari Máter O’Neill, Julio Suárez, Luis Felipe López, and Juan Álvarez O’Neill. She received a Master of Arts in Puerto Rican Studies at the Center for Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean with a major in Art. She taught painting to students of the School of Design in Altos de Chavón, Dominican Republic, and drawing and painting at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts Program for Continued Education on Saturdays. She has taken courses of basic intaglio with Haydée Landing. In 2002 she represented Puerto Rico at the Second Latin American Meeting of Visual Artists in Cuzco, Peru.
