A Letter From The Editor My name is Angie Christine, C.E.O of GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV. I am a mother, an author, a writer for Fuzionz Magazine/TV, actress and soon to be talk show host of my very own show titled "The Ultimate Surprise Show". When it comes to being a hard worker, I always strive to come out on top. I decided to create this magazine to applaud and to recognize all of the Grinders across the world who are out there doing their thing. These people come from various backgrounds, work trades, even different religions, but the one thing that makes them all the same is that they are hard workers. It takes a special person to become one. You have to eat, drink, and sleep your skills, your talents, and become that head honcho. I know you all will be very pleased at reading the different interviews and articles inside this special magazine. I would also love your feedback. If you would love to drop me a message, please send all inquiries to Angie_Christine@aol.com. Take care and keep grinding! (If you dream it, make it happen). Exclusive Interview With
R&B “Diva Queen”
2020 Stellar Gospel Music GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV’s highlights of the 2020 Stellar Awards. By Angie Christine The 2020 Stellar Awards lived up to its title as the greatest night in Gospel music. With its taping normally taking place at the Orleans Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, this year’s show, along with its famous red carpet, was filmed and formatted a little differently. As the world took a drastic changed over the past few months, we, the people, have had to adapt to a different type of lifestyle, “the new norm” - social distancing, while still conducting our lives in today’s society. The Stellar Award’s decided to do things in a safe and fashionable way, by giving various media outlets the opportunity to participate in a red carpet Zoom meeting, to interview with legendary Gospel greats, as well as upcoming artists and more; from the likes of Executive producer, Don Jackson, to Gospel singer’s Travis Green, and Kierra Sheard, to name a few. Everyone in the media outlet distributions were able to share the great experience of speaking to everyone, via Zoom, including conducting a candid one on one interview with the host, renowned Gospel singer, Kirk Franklin, and new comer co-hosts, Gospel singers, Jonathan McReynolds, and Koryn Hawthorne. Some of the nominees were as follows: Donald Lawrence Presents the Tri-City Singers with 9 nominations Kirk Franklin with 8 nominations Tasha Cobbs Leonard with 8 nominations JJ Hairston with 7 nominations Bishop Paul S. Morton with 6 nominations
7
GrinderZZ asked Jonathan McReynolds, and Koryn Hawthorne how they felt about being chosen to co-host the Stellar Award’s with the Legendary Kirk Franklin, they replied how honored they were to be chosen and what a great experience it is for them both. During the Zoom conference meeting, we found that Kirk Franklin and Travis Green are quite the comedians, as they kept us entertained. Although conducted from the comforts of home, this year’s Zoom press interviews were really amazing. The Stellar Gospel Music Awards show is Executive Produced by Don Jackson, with Jennifer J. Jackson serving as Executive in Charge of Production. Michael A. Johnson serves as producer and director for this year's award show. The Stellar Awards is presented by AT&T and recognizes the year's best performances in the genre, honors Gospel music icons and acknowledges the accomplishments of individuals instrumental in advocating for the industry. Starting August 29 – September 27, viewers can watch the Stellar Awards in national broadcast syndication in 210 markets (check local listings). Follow @thestellars for the latest news and updates about the greatest night in Gospel music. Included, also, will be moving tributes honoring Rep. John Lewis and COVID-19 First Responders to Stirring Songs of Inspiration, Power and Praise, Tamela Mann, CeCe Winans, Anthony Brown, James Fortune, Travis Greene, Kierra Sheard, Marvin Sapp, Tye Tribbett and more Deliver Epic Performances We would like to send a special thank you to the executive producer of the Stellar Award’s, Don Jackson and his staff for choosing GrinderZZ 24/7 to be a part of this epic awards show. It is an honor to have this privilege. Photo Credit: Courtesy of CCP 8
EXCLUSIVE An Interview With Actor Ty Granderson Jones When I reached out to this man the other day via social media, I crossed my fingers that he would reply back. When I saw a message from him, I was on cloud nine. Actor/producer/acting coach, Ty Granderson Jones has a face that you'll always remember, and acting skills that make him stand out from his colleagues. Let's hear from him and see what he's been up too. GrinderZZ: Good afternoon Ty, and welcome to the GrinderZZ studio. Please tell my audience a little about yourself. Ty: Well, I’m Creole-Cuban OG with New Orleans’ French Quarter roots, who was raised in Tampa, Florida, a professional actor, a veteran of stage and screen for the past 30 years or so who also writes, produces, directs, makes films, and teaches, coaches acting when I have the time away from performing or filmmaking. I consider myself an actor who writes who’s learning to be a filmmaker. Nonetheless, no matter always looking to evolve as an artist and human being and constantly reinvent myself and share my journey and experiences artistically thru my performances on screen or stage, or screenplays that I write or a poem. I’m also a published poet from back in the day. At one time, I had a spoken word group that included the legendary drummer of The Doors—John Densmore. I was mentored as a poet by the late, great Gil-Scot-Heron. And as an acting teacher/coach, I don’t consider the process as “teaching” but as “sharing”. I really don’t like the concept, word or description of “Teacher”, just feels arrogant and insinuates that we have all the answers…and we don’t. As for teaching acting, I don’t think it can be taught. 9
Many do not know that I coached the late Tupac and Whitney Houston from time to time. I kept that undercover for years. Anyway, that’s who I am and what I do. I’m also a Class 5 whitewater rafter, cowboy and former amateur Muay Thai Kickboxer. I have been called a Renaissance man of sorts by others due to my interest in so many different activities and cultures. GrinderZZ: You're from Tampa Florida. At what age did you make that move to California? Ty: It’s not that simple. I dreamt of going to Hollywood, California and being an actor ever since I was a small kid. I just think show business is in my DNA, a product of my environment growing up as kid. My family was always connected somehow to either music or politics. My uncles are the late Jazz greats Cannonball and Nat Adderly. Another one of my uncles was the Road Manager for Marvin Gaye and James Brown, and my Grandfather, my father’s father worked for both icons Cab Calloway and Lauren Becall, who was a huge star in the 50's/60's, married to the iconic character actor Humphrey Bogart. So I was always around that show business energy. And I was always just a natural performer, but never musical, although I play around with miscellaneous percussion. A lot of the acting bug was inspired by my late father and his father being movie buffs. I was the lead in a play in third grade wherefore I played Rumpelstiltskin…lol. And then my Grandfather (my father's father) and my father who passed in 2014, he was my hero, like I stated he and my Grandfather were movie buffs, they both loved the movies and television and all they would do was go to the movies and watch television shows. When my Grandfather would baby sit me, he would put a pile of thick blankets next to his recliner and we both would just chill, eat tons of ice cream and watch movie after movie after movie and they were mostly the old B&W movies that you see on Turner Classic Movies on cable these days. We watched a lot of the Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson movies. When Movie Stars were Movie Stars! Movies like Key Largo, The Roaring 20's, Public Enemy. My dad would quiz me on movies and the names of stars, etc. 10
And like I mentioned my family was connected to the music industry and people in show business. I knew show business somehow was my calling. Then I started watching films on my own and got into foreign films of all sorts from Japanese cinema with directors like Akira Kurosawa to Italian cinema with directors like Bernardo Bertolucci to Federico Fellini and everything in between. I would ask my grandfather to find these movies on television or when they came to the movies. And this was when I was barely 8 years old. I knew as a kid that I wanted to be an actor. I was always fascinated by film. I never knew how I was going to make it to California. It was a long journey. I studied theatre at both Florida A&M University and Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida as a co-op student. While at Florida State University, the great Acting Teacher Lee Strasberg visited and conducted a workshop. One day I got in his face and threatened that I would come to New York City and study with him when I graduated, and that is just what I did. But while at the Actors Studio in NYC, the late great American Director Alan Schneider discovered me and recruited me to workshop Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”. But we could not finish because he had been offered by the University of California, San Diego School of Theatre to go and develop an MFA program in Directing. At the time, Mr. Schneider was running Julliard’s Acting Program. Long story short, Mr. Schneider asked me how would I like to get my MFA in Acting at the UCSD with a fullfellowship?? I was like, huh?? I was thinking La Jolla, California is close to Hollywood. I was not thinking about the MFA in Acting. So I auditioned for the program and got in with a full-fellowship, one of the few of color at the time. So during the summers I would drive 90 miles north and explore Hollywood and the energy. I wanted to let Hollywood know this little Florida boy was coming at some point…lol. Not telling you my age at the time….lol. This OG not dating himself any more than I
11
have to. GrinderZZ: You also received a MFA degree from the University of California. How proud were your parent's at that very moment? Ty: Well, my parents were extremely proud, especially my late dad. He was a great man. He marched with MLK. Everybody in Tampa knew my Dad, Goosby Jones. When I was growing up in Tampa, it was the true mean streets. I got into the gangster thing, got incarcerated post High School, and my father stuck his neck out with my late Uncle Alton White and got things expunged. Told me to prove I was worth it. I never looked back. I put myself thru college studying theatre. When I got my MFA I gave it to me dad. No words, just tears. GrinderZZ: This entire time, watching you in different movie's, I thought you were of Mexican descendant, but actually......you're Creole and Cuban. Do you also get mistaken for being another nationality? Ty: People always ask me “What are you?” And I often reply “I’m America muthafucka”, all that. I get Puerto Rican, Dominican,…you name it. But in some ways my Latin side opens me up to play different cultures. Sometimes it gets in the way of playing African-American roles because White Hollywood assumes I not Black enough. I don’t fit the stereotype. But when Light skin brothers are called…all good…smh! GrinderZZ: You have a long line of great film's you've acted in. CB4, Con Air, Harlem Nights, Twins, Going Under, and so on. You've also played on television as Cue Ball Rodriguez on the show ER, and the sitcom, Everybody Hates Chris. Out of all the movie's you've done, which one you enjoyed doing the most? Ty: I have to say it was Con Air. It was the first and only above 90 million dollars movie I had been a part o, and working on it for 4 months from location to location flying around with Nicolas Cage and John Malkovich and an entire cool ass motley krew of hard ass, dynamic actors including Ving Rhames and Dave Chappelle. But enjoy is a tricky concept, because just because I enjoyed it does not mean it was my greatest work like the short lived series UC:Undercover on NBC starring me and Ving Rhames. I am also proud of my work recurring on ER as Cue Ball Rodriguez opposite John Stamos. And of course I am proud of creating the iconic character 40 Dawg in CB4 alone side the late great Charlie Murphy. I enjoyed that. I got stories hanging out with Charlie and Isaac Hayes and a ton of iconic folks. 12
GrinderZZ: You played the character, 40 Dog in the movie, CB4, and I couldn't stop laughing. When you were first approach to do be in the movie, what did you think about the character you were placing? Ty: Well, first off I had to audition. Charlie had already known me from Harlem Nights which his brother wrote and directed and cast me. I and Charlie had to read together for Chris Rock and the director Tamra Davis to see if I matched well with Charlie. You know…chemistry and that we had and became the best of friends. I miss him. There was not much to think about other than just dive into the crazy little gangster’s psyche. Originally it was written for the Rapper Too Short, but it did not work out for him. I am grateful it did not…lol. But who knew CB4 would become a classic that influenced the future of Hip Hop. GrinderZZ: You've also taught acting classes in Beijing China. What was that experience like? Ty: Three Months in China was three Months too long. I never want to see China again. It was not a bad experience, but just like being on Mars or some shit. Teaching was so enlightening nevertheless. And everybody should see China once. I learned more about my own craft. I was hired by one of the top studios in China to school about 15 of their contract players. They are like on the old Hollywood Studio System with contracted actors. They wanted their actors to learn better film craft matching the standards of the west, America. I had to do this with a translator. I created, developed and taught a state of the art Acting for the Camera workshop for 3 months. And I got to lecture at the University of Beijing. It was emotional the day I left China. I had bonded with them and we all grew as artists. I learned so much about my own craft and my theories that acting is not just dialogue. It is reacting to emotion. No matter what culture, we all have emotion. GrinderZZ: What advice could you give to someone right now who maybe thinking about going into acting? Ty: Honestly, I don’t think there is any advice to give. Everybody’s journey is different. But I will state this; don’t play around with this. The journey and career of a professional actor is not for the faint or the meek. You truly have to be an artist in a modern world and that is hard to navigate between feast and famine…and there will be famine. How one weathers the storm in between gigs is just as important a being a pro as having the gig itself. It’s a tough game. You have to believe and gamble with your life. And it ain’t about fame and fortune. The odds are you will never achieve fame or fortune, but that does not mean you won’t be successful. There is more failure and rejection than anything. My favorite quote is from one of the greatest playwrights to have lived, Samuel Beckett—“Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter, try again, fail again. Fail better.” GrinderZZ: How can fans reach out to you? Ty: Hit me at my Instagram. Find me at @KingCreole55 or just look up Ty Granderson Jones. I also have the Ty Granderson Jones Fan Page on FB https://www.facebook.com/ActorScreenwriterTGJ/ and, of course, Twitter @TyGrandJones. GrinderZZ: Any last words/shout outs? Ty: Yes, please stay focused and healthy and Vote Biden/Harris!! We gotta vote this Trump Bigot out. In the meantime, Please go to Amazon Prime and watch a little award winning short film I wrote, produced and directed called “Diamond” link up at https://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Tessa-Lynn-Farrell/dp/B07JQHRKM2 FYI Prince dropped some of the funding on me. I starred in a Hip Hop Classic film called Tapped Out where he was a silent producer with Madonna’s company, Maverick Entertainment. The soundtrack for Tapped Out is sick. It was written, directed by and starring R&B Artist Georgio.

GrinderZZ 24/7......the Georgia
Tour
On August 28th, GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine &TV went out to Augusta Georgia to take a tour around town, and to also learn the history of this fantastic place. Our tour guide was none other than, Daryl Brown, who is the son of the late Godfather of Soul, James Brown, and also, proud to say, my fiance. Daryl took the girl's and I to the school his father once called home, Silas X Floyd elementary school. His father attended the school up until the 7th grade. Daryl also took us to the famous statue of his dad. Before seeing it in person, I've always seen it on social media outlets,
and
through photo's of friend's who went by to pay their respects. Once we were finished there, Daryl then took us to the mural that is being fixed up by the artist, Cole Phail. We then proceeded to the Augusta Museum of History, where his father's item's are on display. From his clothes, to his instruments, to his hair care products, it was cool to say, Mr James Brown had a method when it came to looking good in and out of the public's eye. I'm definitely looking forward to my new life in Georgia. 14
An Interview With
The Imperial Brothers
I'm so happy to have caught up with this guy once again. I had the great pleasure of interviewing the Imperial Brother's in GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine &TV when we first came out. They were so good. I just had to bring them back for a second time. Let's see what they've been up too. GrinderZZ: How's it going? Welcome back to the GrinderZZ studio. I'm so thankful that took the time to speak with us again. For those who are in the dark, please tell my audience a little about yourself? EL: They call me EL form the legendary Imperial Brothers from the Bronx. I started with the group back in the 80s in the park jams as we called them and a few years later we signed a record deal with a label called Cutting Records. The releases went well all across seas and throughout the globe. As the 90s rolled in I pretty much took a break but got caught up in street life and my life took a bad turn. At this time the group had split ways and the Imperial Brothers were off the radar (so I thought). As the 90s ended and the 2000s entered, I started getting the buzz back and made a return doing light work alone and collaborations with artist out at the time. I made a full return to the industry by doing a DJ. Envy mix tape with my son Icey (DWI) and his crew. It went well and that was the return in 2009. GrinderZZ: Your music definitely stands the test of time. I know since we last spoke, you've had some new music come out. Tell us about it! EL: I have been doing a lot of collaborations with established artist at the time and doing a lot of solo tracks. The first single was "Just Do It" featuring Gypsyluv (video on YouTube), and available for download and streaming. Another single is "Headlines" featuring Blaq Poet (available now). I have a few new things getting ready to be released soon. A new single called "How We Ride" featuring LiL Eazy-E, Eazy-E’s son, from The legendary group N.W.A. with the legendary Wu-Tang DJ Wiz. Another single dropping is called "Just Like That" featuring another dope artist from Brooklyn B.A.M. produced by DJ. Wiz. Also, the original members of the Imperial Brothers have reunited and are working on a lot of new material soon to be released and being produced by OG rock (original member) so the new material will be interesting to check out. 15
GrinderZZ: I know things have been rough because of the CORONA virus. Did you guy's had to cancel shows because of the pandemic? EL: As the pandemic hit, a lot of things were being set up and everything was shut-down. The only thing that kept going was the recording of new material. GrinderZZ: Do you know anyone personally who has been affected from this biological development? EL: A few close friends of mine have passed on. When it first hit I didn’t realize how dangerous it was until one of my closest friends and his mother passed away from it. GrinderZZ: What have you been doing to stay busy? EL: To stay busy during this time, I have been writing and recording every week. I take long walks and try and keep my blood circulating. GrinderZZ: Since thing's are opening back up little by little, do you guys have any show's coming up anywhere? EL: I have been on the phone and online with promoters discussing the matter of new shows. The only event sounding promising is in the United Kingdom (London) 2021 set in stone already. All the events in the states for this year is on hold until further notice. GrinderZZ: Do you see thing's ever being back to normal in the world? EL: I see things getting better and back to normal if only people will listen and stop going against the rules for fighting the pandemic like wearing mask and staying home which they don’t want to do. GrinderZZ: You guys have been out since the 80's. Being that you're a pioneer to the game, what advice can you hand out to someone who may be looking to be a part of 16
the music industry? EL: The only advice I would give to anyone trying to get in the game is be real to yourself and everyone around you and speak your mind even if people won’t support you. GrinderZZ: How can fans reach out to you? EL: I can be reached on social media on Facebook or Instagram at Imperial brothers EL or Imperial Brothers on IG Imperial Brothers BX. GrinderZZ: Any last words/shout outs? EL: I would like to thank GrinderZZ for having me back in the studio for this interview. It was a pleasure. Once again, thank you for coming back into the studio and chatting it up with us. Continue to stay safe and God Bless.

GrinderZZ Interviews With Terrence Sharrock—CEO Of
Pure Platinum Media Welcome to GrinderZZ 24/7 magazine, where you'll read some of the best interview's around! I'm so pleased to bring back this incredible guy. Writer/director/producer/actor, Terrence Sharrock ,was once featured back in 2018 when we first came out, and I decided to bring him back for a second interview. Let's see what he's been up too for the past two years. GrinderZZ: Terrence, welcome back to GrinderZZ Magazine &TV's studio! Now, for those who don't know you, can please tell the audience a little about yourself? Terrence: I am an independent cinematography, writer-director and owner of pure Platinum Media. I have over twenty years of music production and engineering experience and ten years of film production experience. I’ve spent the last five years freelancing as a videographer. My clients range from small businesses, non-profits and larger corporations. I just recently launched Pure Platinum Films a small indecent film company that focuses on film production and screenplay development. GrinderZZ: At what age did you first get bit by the directing bug? Terrence: I started writing and directing at the age of six. My little bro and I used to make up our own shows and characters and then play it. I didn’t start using it seriously until about ten years ago. GrinderZZ: Since I've known you, you had always been a hard worker. Can you name a project that you've done that took longer than expected to finish? Terrence: Quarantined was by far the most difficult film for me to produce. I had just lost my dad and was dealing with severe depression. I had a bad eye infection, so I worked the entire shoot with blurry vision. The film should have taken us about a week to film, but we ended up finishing it in a month's time. GrinderZZ: Your company, Pure Platinum Media, has been taking the world by storm these past years. What year did you come out, and how many people work under you? Terrence: I actually started my company in 2015, around the time we first meet. I, also, had the pleasure of taking on one of my first clients, yours truly, Mrs. Angie Christine. I run with a small crew of five and subcontract out on larger projects. GrinderZZ: You recently shared with your family, friends, your outstanding certificate award. of achievements. Please tell us all about your win. Terrence: So, earlier this year, during the COVID lock down, I thought it would be a good idea to create a comedy that based around a guy who is quarantined in a small apartment with five of his altered egos. 20
Interview With Terrence Sharrock (cont’d…)
Terrence: It took me a day to write the script and a month for me and my partner, Joel Roman, who plays all of the characters, to film it. We entered the film, which is titled Quarantined, into a bunch of film festivals, including Sundance. So far, we were the finalist for best comedy short at the independent film festival and are still currently up in the running for several others. GrinderZZ: Back in 2015, when I moved out to Vegas, I was hired by Fuzionz Magazine and TV's C.E.O, Shenona Kinsey, to cover the red carpet for the Soul Train Awards on behalf of her magazine. I remembered making that phone call to you asking if you wanted to fly out here and cover it with me. Do you remember that first moment when we walked through security and onto the carpet? Terrence: The minute I got the call my first thought was I’m there. I was hungry and eager to make anything pop. GrinderZZ: Can you name three directors you would love to work with on a movie? Can you name three actors/actresses you would love to work with as well? Terrence: The three Directors I would love to work with are Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee and Wu Tain Ming. As far as actors I would love to work with Samuel Jackson, Denzel Washington and Kerry Washington GrinderZZ: If there's someone reading this interview right now that's thinking about following in your footsteps, but they're a little hesitant because it's so much to endure, what advice could you give them? Terrence: I would tell them not to follow my footsteps for my path is for me. I would tell them that if they are truly passionate about filming making then don’t make any excuses just start filming even if its with a smartphone. Find your niche and walk your own path. GrinderZZ: How could people reach out to you? Terrence: Facebook: Pure Platinum Media Instagram Pureplatinummedia For film production or script creation: Pureplatinummedia@gmail.com GrinderZZ: Any last words/shout outs? Terrence: Shouts to Angie Christine. I have seen Your Struggle and I witnessed your grind first hand. Keep doing what You Do. I, also, want to shout out my Big bro DJ Barry Blends, out of Brooklyn, NY, for giving me feeding back and wisdom, when needed. Shout out to my Family and inner circle of friends, actors and my production team, for putting in just as much work as me. Last, but never least, THE highest GOD, for allowing me to use my gifts, to inspire others. Again, Terrence, it has been a pleasure chatting it up with you. Please stay I touch to everything that you're doing. Keep grinding and keep shining.

to me. Watching my mother's impact on her clients is what I fell in love with. I mean she had the ability to uplift anyone that sat in her chair. I knew that I wanted to have that impact one day. GrinderZZ: How many clients do you have? Neidra: My clientele is increasing rapidly so I can’t really count them all lol but as of now I’d say about 20-30 loyal clients. GrinderZZ: I was so happy that my daughter, Briana chose you to be her hairdresser. We got along so well that day joking and talking. Have you ever had any crazy client's that you wished you never met? Neidra: Aw man the energy and vibe the both of you carry is amazing, but I mean of course you have people that just didn’t have any home training. Having manners and being courteous isn’t common anymore smh but I also learn something from clients like that as well.
Welcome to the studio. GrinderZZ: Please, tell my audience a little about yourself? Neidra: Thank you so much for having me Angie, I am so excited to be here. Well my name is Reniedra but everyone calls me Nini, I’m originally from Pomona, Ca. I’m the owner of Raeniluvs Custom Hair LLC located in Las Vegas, Nevada. We provide luxury hair extensions and custom wigs at an affordable price. I am also a hairstylist and custom wig maker that specializes in frontal, closure and wig installations, I’m a single mother of three beautiful children who motivate and push me to become the best me. GrinderZZ: When did you know you had a talent for doing hair? Neidra: That’s a good question Angie, I’ve known since I was about 10 years old. My mother who is originally from Liberia, was blessed with the “hair gene” from her ancestors and it was passed down
GrinderZZ: I know down in Atlanta, the beauticians have serious competition on who can do the best hair styles. Have you ever done one of those show's, and if not, would you be willing to do one if chosen? Neidra: Unfortunately, no I haven’t had an opportunity like that yet but I am most definitely open for the right opportunity. GrinderZZ: I see you're also talented in frontal wig making as well. Have people been blowing up your phone for some pretty styles? Neidra: Oh yes they have lol and love that. Some of the tasks are a challenge, I can’t even lie, but that’s what keeps me on my feet. Never get comfortable is what I tell myself. GrinderZZ: Sometimes as entrepreneurs, it gets hard when we try to make money from our talent when everyone that knows us continues asking for discounts. Do you ever find yourself giving discounts all the time? 22
GrinderZZ: Where do you see yourself in 5 year's with your career? Neidra: I see myself being a successful black business owner with several streams of income. Creating generational wealth for my bloodline is my goal. GrinderZZ: How can fans reach out to you if they would like to support your business? Neidra: Hello Luvs, please feel free to contact me for all your custom hair needs. Facebook: Raeniluv’s Custom Hair Instagram: @raeniluvs_custom_hair Email: raeniluvscustomhair@gmail.com Call/Text; (702)337-9801 or (707) 329-7437 GrinderZZ: Any last words/shout outs? Male Flava Of The Month
Our Flava of the month goes to my brother from another mother, Trevor Adderley, aka Big Heavy Daddy. The gifted and talented guy was born in Queens, New York. He was born with a gift to make people laugh. Coming up in Queensbridge Projects is where his comic skills were developed and tested, on the regular. With a snack in hand, his witty jokes took down friends, classmates, or anybody whom he felt like ranking. The "your mama" jokes were his specialty. Heavy was sharp, full and ready for whatever. He didn't get his name, Big Heavy Daddy, until his oldest daughter, 5 years old, at the time, said, “Your name should be Big Heavy, Daddy. His professional comedian career started in Norfolk, Virginia. He fell in love with the stage, and always in his hand were snacks. He always carried a box of Little Debbie snacks with him, and thus came the name, Big Heavy Daddy aka Snack Attack. GrinderZZ Magazine is very proud to have Trevor grace our magazine, once again.

My Voices & I have settled into a odd, quirky existence. If I listen to them - they sometimes give me Correct answers to questions I've had. Other times, they don't have an answer. I think they just like to toss out wierd stuff & see if they can confuse me. But, there are those days when they get Quiet & I seriously wonder: "What are they thinking up now?"
Blog Those Voices by Kim Fannin
Yesterday, they whispered "it's Dance Naked Tuesday"! Oh noooooo, not til I get home. Uh huh, no way. Oh wait - They changed their mind....now, it's "Dance like a Naked Elephant Day!" Whew! THAT was a close one. Some days, I think they aren't real. Until they pipe up & tell me I'm wrong. I shake my head at them & they just roll from side to side, giggling. I've tried to control their thoughts. That usually just makes me dizzy. There's too many of them! I've decided it's just better to accept them. So, I jumped on their roller coaster I'm ready for the ride. With the way 2020 is going so far, this should be Fun :)

VASHUN’S ERIKKA ORTEGA This young lady is like a sister to me and I love her so much. Erikka Ortega was so generous to give me a sit down interview. Let's check her out. GrinderZZ: Hello Erikka. Welcome to the GrinderZZ studio. May you please tell my audience a little about yourself? Erikka: First, I would like to thank you and your audience for this platform. My name is Erikka. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I am currently an Electrician with IBEW Local 3 and part owner of Vashun. Creating things with my hands has always been a passion of mine. There is something about having an idea in your head and seeing it come to fruition. At Vashun, I’ve uncovered skills that I wasn’t aware I possessed such as sewing and coding. It may seem like two different extremes but it was light work when I initially attempted them. Since we began the company, I have worn many hats such as the mover, the cleaning service, the coder, the Administrator etc., but my actual title is CFO. I can appreciate where our vision is taking us due to knowing all facets of our business. GrinderZZ: This year you became a part of a great partnership with your boyfriend Warren Roberts, and his two brothers Aven and Allen. Your company, Vashun, (Rhymes with fashion) has been taking off by storm. Did one person come up with the name? Erikka: Yes. Warren came up with the name. Vashun pronounced like fashion but with a V. It’s a combination of the words value and fashion. GrinderZZ: I checked the website out and I was amazed at all the beautiful baby clothes and adult clothes you guys sell. Are you guys looking to maybe open up your own outside store soon? Erikka: No. An actual brick and mortar store is not in our vision. We feel that enviroment is not conducive to our creativity, although we are not opposed to offering a space to our clients where they can participate in the production of their work. GrinderZZ: This year has been a roller coaster ride for us all. How are you all been coping businesswise with the pandemic Covid 19? Erikka: The Pandemic has allowed us to fully commit to this project. One day Warren woke up and said, Today is the day that Vashun will come to be and the rest is developing as we speak. 30
GrinderZZ: Do you guys sell and ship internationally as well? Erikka: Our website is open to all markets. We haven’t received an international order per se, but we have customers that have purchased our products to distribute amongst their family and friends abroad. GrinderZZ: How proud are your family members at this time on your accomplishments? Erikka: My family is extremely proud of my accomplishments. My parents instilled in me from youth that anything that is worth having, you have to work for it. The fruit of my hard work is appreciated because behind that fruit are my sweat and tears. GrinderZZ: We have black Americans have to start supporting black businesses as we do our counterparts businesses. Have you guys been getting the support from the black community? Erikka: Absolutely, the support of our community has been pivotal toward our success. The majority of our orders come from the Black community and through that gesture we have been able to flourish despite the catastrophic events surrounding us. GrinderZZ: If there's someone right now reading your interview and thinking about going into business for themselves? what advice could you give them? Erikka: If you are thinking about going into business for yourself, just do it. We were not furnished with the tools and knowledge necessary to start a business but we did it. We have conducted extensive research through sleepless nights and obtain all the requisite to run a business. It may seem intimidating but it’s achievable. GrinderZZ: How could people reach out to you? Erikka: I could be reached at Erikka@Vashun.biz GrinderZZ: Any last words of shout-outs you would like to give at this present time? Erikka: I would like to thank God for giving me a new lease on life, for not giving me a battle that he knew I couldn’t conquer. Shout out to you Angie!! That Brooklyn grind lives within you. I applaud all of your success and wish you many more. Finally, I would like to thank my children, we grew up together and I am a better me because of you. Once again Erikka, I do thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us. May God continue to Bless you and all that you continue to do. I enjoy playing sports, spending time with family and impacting the community in a positive way. My brother Warren came up with the idea while we were in college. He always expressed his desire to create a clothing company. It feels amazing to be part of the company because it allows my Creativity flow. I have been putting in my energy into the business to give myself another outlet. They are excited cause we are beginning the process of creating generational wealth. I feel supported by the black community. Not only have they been patronizing our business, but they also promote our company on their social media pages and by word-of-mouth to their family and friends. VASHUN’S WARREN ROBERTS
Thank you, GrinderZZ. My name is Warren Roberts, and I am from New York City. I was born in Queens and raised in Brooklyn. Being from New York is a great asset in itself, because of everything you’re exposed too. The different cultures, foods, races, religions, and art, it seems like it’s the mecca for everything. At a young age, I was always into the arts. I wasn’t the best basketball player, or nicest rapper, but I always love to create. As a kid, I would break down toys and building them back, or just simply molding play doe into whatever creation was living in my head. That was my passion. I didn’t know it then, but I eventually figured it out. I am currently
the founder and part owner for Vashun LLC. I’m also an electrician for IBEW Local Union #3. My love and passion for art and building came full circle. Funny Story, my brother was always going to be on board. I came up with the vision for Vashun long time ago. My vision for the company is not what it is today, and for that reason, I really can’t go into details. Allen and Aven knew the original vision, and they were ready, but I wasn’t. Fast forward a lot of years, to March. I was laid off from LaGuardia Airport construction site. I am a Journeyman for the Union, and I was making good money. I figure this is time to get Vashun started. Covid 19 hits, the NBA shuts down, and we knew it was serious then. That was the wakeup call. Now having more time than ever, I was more invested into doing the research and getting this thing off the ground. I was up every night to 4-5 in the morning glued to my MacBook. My brother Aven would be on Face Time with the game. When I first started, I mentioned it to Aven, but he didn’t seem to respond with the same excitement I had. The next day, I would have more research and this trend wound ensue for 4-5 days. Then boom, it hit him! That light bulb went off for him as well and he seen how serious I was. For Allen it took a little while. He felt the vision changed, and it did, it expanded. For a while, Allen was busy being a new father and we had to give him that time. Shortly, Allen would come around to put in his input. We gave him the website to get it started among other things. Allen was limited duty at the time. Once having a sit-down and explain to him the direction of the company, we were good. The Surprise was Erikka. Erikka has been most impactful for Vashun since the start. When I started the company, I had no idea how much pressure I would be under on the daily. My brother is in transition from Charlotte NC back to NY to help run the company. Allen is back to work and home with a young baby, so Erikka has step up in so many ways, Vashun wouldn’t be what is now without her help. For Vashun Clothing, we collectively and individually create ideas and designs for our pieces. Having 33
VASHUN
four individuals, who each have their own styles, helps in different ways. We each dress for a different person. Me personally, I am a blend of clean and fresh looks. Aven might be more Rico suave and street urban. Allen is comfortable and high end. Erikka style is clean, fresh, and simple. With Vashun, family and friends get different perspectives. The designing has been at a low because of simplicity right now. We want to keep the summer line clean. Also, we are taking care of others who were working along to build our brands. As for myself, it was blend of words. Valuable Fashion! Vashun pronounced like Fashion with A “V”. People say “VASHAWN” all the time. It really doesn’t bother me much; it’s just a daily reminder of getting the brand out there. My business was born amongst the Covid. It’s a gift and curse honestly. It’s a curse for obvious reasons and that’s all the people who were affected by the pandemic. I was laid off right before the Covid. With my trade, I figured, I’ll be called back to work from my union. Now with the extra time off and two vacations cancelled, I’ll have more time and money to invest into Vashun. In hindsight my company might not have happen if it weren’t for Covid, or maybe I would’ve waited longer. What if I was able to make to Costa Rica? I still think about it, but I don’t regret anything. It’s not like I could’ve went anyway. My parents are super proud. They didn’t know what to expect at first, but it didn’t take long before they knew I was serious. I showed my parents the machine we purchase, the studio, and the equipment. The clothes were popping up at their front door, boxes of shirts, hats, and hoodies. They knew I was serious. They’re probably my best customers to this day. I’m sure, people may think my hustle is foreign, but I’ve always had the hustle, but I had to do it the right way. It had to have a connection with me, or it wouldn’t have been any love involved. My brother was a hustler and I’m sure my parents see Welton in Vashun. I agree more now than ever. The country is on fire with racial tension due to our recent loss of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. I started my business in hopes of helping upcoming black brands and in vice versa. That will help me grow, partnerships, but us blacks don’t support each other like how our counterparts do. Sometimes we support the counterparts better than other black businesses. Most feel because were of the same race they’re entitled to a discount, but wouldn’t dare do that with our counterparts. It happens all the time. My mother did it couple days ago asking if my cousin would give us a family discount at her restaurant. I replied we will pay full price. Peter Luger wasn’t going to give us a discount! We can do better supporting black businesses and recycling the black dollar. If you're thinking of going into business, first and foremost, have a passion and love for what you’re doing. Second, have a strong work ethic. If you’re fortunate enough to start with a team that has those same qualities as you, I would consider a team. Third, don’t be afraid of the vision changing, as long as you don’t lose it completely. Expand your vision. You can reach us through our website Vashun.biz, or me personally on Instagram warrofbk. Thank you, GrinderZZ, for the opportunity. From me and the Vashun family, we would like to extend an offer to your readers at GrinderZZ. 15% discount on our website using code GRINDERZZ at checkout. Grind on. 34
VASHUN’S AVEN
My name is Aven. I was born April 27, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York. I am the youngest of my siblings and my brothers and sisters Aka the Vashun team. My passions are making music and creating new ideas and designs for Vashun, as well as working on other businesses. The name and idea of Vashun came from my brother, Warren Roberts. I’ve always been interested in fashion, since I was born and raised in NYC, the Mecca of the fashion world. I am most definitely open to creating some designs from customer’s ideas or create what’s not been created, yet. The reason behind building Vashun is to be expressive with your art and be creative and create. Vashun 2020 was physically launched during COVID 19, due to the rollercoaster the world was on, with the pandemic. We figured we all were home quarantined at the same time and page .which gave us the opportunity to build so the community can have opportunities to start their own business by creating their own line. Our family and friends are very proud and very supportive. They’re our biggest customers; they helped with the launch by supporting. We have definitely been getting a lot of support from the black and brown community. One of our biggest sellers is our Black Lives Matter merchandise. My advice to everyone is to never give up. Don’t allow others to reflect their failures on you. Keep faith, stay positive, be consistent and persistent and know there’s no success without failure. Don’t be afraid to fail. Teamwork makes the dream work. You can reach me on Facebook, Instagram, Or at Aven@vashun I want to shout out to all the young black and brown young men and woman out there who working hard on their businesses and going against the grain, by stepping outside the box and taking chances and risks in life.
