A Letter From The Editor
Hello everyone! Welcome to my world....the world of GrinderZZ. My name is Angie Christine, C.E.O of GrinderZZ 24/7 Magazine & TV. I am a mother, an author, a writer for Fuzionz Magazine/TV, actress and soon to be talk show host of my very own show titled "The Ultimate Surprise Show". When it comes to being a hard worker, I always strive to come out on top. I decided to create this magazine to applaud and to recognize all of the Grinders across the world who are out there doing their thing. These people come from various backgrounds, work trades, even different religions, but the one thing that makes them all the same is that they are hard workers. It takes a special person to become one. You have to eat, drink, and sleep your skills, your talents, and become that head honcho. I know you all will be very pleased at reading the different interviews and articles inside this special magazine. I would also love your feedback. If you would love to drop me a message, please send all inquiries to Angie_Christine@aol.com. Take care and keep grinding! (If you dream it, make it happen)

AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW With Actor Stoney Jackson When I think of the word Icon, I think of someone who has been in the business for decades. When I think of actor/producer, Stoney Jackson, I know for certain, I've found the person that fits that bill. Let’s chat with the Actor/Icon.
C 7
How was it adjusting to the west coast? Stoney: It was fantastic! I was able to adjust quite well. I loved the great weather, and the Palm trees. It was an entirely, a whole different world. GrinderZZ: The acting bug bit you real fast out in, California. You landed a role on the show, The White Shadow. The show ran from, 1978 to 1981. What was it like working on the set? Stoney: Man, working on that show with the guys was awesome! Ken Howard was so great to work with. The concept for the show originated from Ken Howard's own experience as a high school basketball star, at Manhasset high school at Long Island. They called him The White Shadow because he was the only white player in the starting lineup. GrinderZZ: The interviews started to pour in from the magazine, Tiger Beat, to Right on Magazine, to Teen Beat Magazine. You were one of the hottest up and coming handsome actor's on the market. How happy were your family members when they saw you on each cover?
GrinderZZ: My man Stoney! Happy New Year; and welcome finally to the GrinderZZ 24/7 studio. Please, for those who are on the young side, tell my audience a little about yourself. Stoney: Hey there Angie! First, thank you for having me in the studio. My name is Stoney Jackson. I was born in Richmond, Virginia and was raised by the greatest parents anyone could ask for. GrinderZZ: Your parent's headed out west, to California, to run their family business.
Stoney: My family was ecstatic! My friends and family, back on the east coast, would call me to tell me that they saw my face, at the newsstands, on those magazines. I felt like I was on top of the world. GrinderZZ: You were on several television shows: The Insider's, 227, 100 Lives of Black, and Everybody Hates Chris, to name a few. Do you ever stay In touch with some of the other actor's from any of the shows? Stoney: Yes, I have stayed in touch with a few people. It's great!
“Work hard, work extra hard and never get discouraged…” 8
GrinderZZ: You were in one of the funniest movie's that starred, Chris Rock, the late Charlie Murphy, Ty Granderson Jones, and Allen Payne. In CB4, you played the character, Wacky Dee. Who was wacky Dee? Stoney: I still ask myself that question. Well, Wacky Dee was a mixture of, Freedom Williams, and, MC Hammer. Man, those baggy pants I had on, and my dancing was really wacky as hell! We really did have fun though. Charlie Murphy was hilarious on the set. GrinderZZ: Once again, you're back on TV, and this time you're playing sort of a badass named Cimarron Squalley. How is the show going? Stoney: Fantastic! I definitely need to give a shout out to producer/writer Antonio McKay for having me join him in this phenomenal show. The show is going great. We're filming new episodes as we speak. GrinderZZ: What advice could you give someone who's thinking about getting into, acting? Stoney: Work hard, work extra hard and never get discouraged if you don't get a gig right away. Practice makes perfect. Thank you so much for hanging with us at the studio. Again, Happy New Year! 9

An Interview With
Alise Levine
16
GrinderZZ: Hey there Alise! Welcome to,GrinderZZ. Please let my audience know a little about yourself. Alise: My Name is Alise Levine – or sometimes they call me Hiphopalise. I was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to California when I was ten years old. I have always loved music and started going to concerts in 1984 at the age of eighteen. I have a degree in Biology from UC Davis and a minor in Psychology. I have 30 years of experience in sales and marketing and have been in the music industry a little over 3 years now. GrinderZZ: You're from Brooklyn, New York, (the best place on earth), just like myself. Growing up there, what type of music did you listen to and who were your favorite artists? Alise: I love being from NYC as well. I only lived there until I was ten years old, but I have always loved music. I listened to Rock and a little old school R&B in high school in California and then I went away to college and it changed my whole life. I started listening to RNB because my best guy friend in college was a DJ and he would teach me about music, DJ Mixing and how to dance the newest dances during that time – like the Reebok, running man and roger rabbit. My favorite artists in the 80’s were GUY, New Edition, MC Hammer and Stevie B. GrinderZZ: At what age did you head out to the, west coast? Alise: I moved to San Jose, CA when I was 10 years old – so I have lived here my whole adult life. It was very different in terms of culture and pace of life—but I love it here in California. GrinderZZ: When did you realize that music was your passion to become a manager? Alise: I have always loved music and going to concerts and had the people skills to work with all types of people From CEO’s, to managers to artists themselves. About three years ago – my 1st artist, Torranio, approached me about managing him and I thought about it and said why not try. I put my passion for music and my business and sales background to work for me in an industry I love. Then almost two years ago - my 2 nd artist – JCHOSEN approached me to manager him as well. Little did we all know that covid would change the course of our lives for these past 2 years and set us all back in our goals. GrinderZZ: How many week's/month's are you away from home from touring? Alise: I travel on the weekends for shows and networking - almost every week. And if there are weekday shows I go to those as well. This upcoming year, in 2022, I hope to be on tour most of the year. GrinderZZ: How was your career affected from the Corona virus shutdown, or was it 17
affected, at all? Alise: Covid was a disaster for the music industry. Almost All artists depend on shows for their income.. VERY FEW can survive on just royalties from their music – unless they have been in the industry for many, many years and are the TOP of their Genre such has a DRAKE, Chris Brown or a Bruno Mars. I cancelled 28 trips in 2020 alone and some amazing opportunities were cancelled for my artists. The only good part about the covid shutdown is I was able to connect with my group RIFF and start to work with them through helping them book artists for a podcast and working with them to get ready for a great year in 2022 with music and music videos and setting up tour dates. GrinderZZ: Is there any big news with you that's coming up in 2022 that you can share with my audience? Alise: Nothing specific I can talk about yet : but I am working on shows and events for all of my artists for 2022 and also I will be working on a TV show out here in the bay area - a re-boot of the legendary show SOULBEAT. We will be interviewing not only music artists, but comedians as well and also looking at doing a trivia show based on the 90’s as well. GrinderZZ: What advice can you share with others who may want to dabble into the type of work you do? Alise: It is not easy and there are a lot of ups and downs in this industry. YOU must have thick skin. It’s twice as challenging being a woman in this industry, as well. GrinderZZ: How can fans get in contact with you? Alise: My social media is : @hiphopalise on Instagram and tiktok; Alise Levine on Facebook and my email is hiphopalise@yahoo.com GrinderZZ: Any last words/request you may have at this time? Alise: All I can say is that I am glad I am able to follow a dream at this time in my life. My Passion for music and the belief I have in my artists is what makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to RIFF @riffsounds, @jchosenmusic and @iamtorraniomelody for believing in me and I am blessed to represent them .

Blog and Doodle By Kim Fannin “The Blog Lady”
Magic Coffee Beans Of course, I do love my coffee. It's my eye opening, ear clearing, smile making, happy eye juice that makes me want to pogo stick jump my way through the day! Coffee is my elixir - it has magical qualities, you know. I drink the first cup just to wake up my senses - not necessarily the 'common sense' sense - that happens later. No, the first cup is what helps me believe I'm not in bed anymore. Because, if I was still in bed - well, Magic happened! And my kuerig made my coffee, sprouted arms & legs and boogied into the bedroom with it! Yah picture that! I love the way coffee enters my veins - it feels like I'm hooked up to the beans - they really are the magic. They grow up, get picked by special coffee bean pickers, hop on a truck & make their way through all kinds of fun places before I get them. Then - I CRUSH THEM & Grind Them into tiny bits and drown them with hot water. They Love It!! I know they love it, too. How do I know? Well, after All they've been through they DANCE when I drink them! Yep, they DANCE as they trickle into my veins. That dancing energizes me! I want to dance, too, and I do! So, yeah, I'm a Coffee Addict. I drink it, inhale it, dream about it & draw it sitting in cool cups waiting for me. It could be worse....I might be addicted to marshmallows. Hmmmm, that sounds like something fun! :) 22
An Interview With Dr. Alfred Titus GrinderZZ: Good afternoon Dr Titus, and welcome back to the, GrinderZZ 24/7 studio. For those who may have missed your first interview, may you share some details about yourself? Dr. Titus: Hello Angie and listeners, thank you for having me back on this wonderful show. I am a retired NYPD Homicide Detective and Hostage Negotiator, turned College Professor, Author, and Entrepreneur. I grew up in South Jamaica Queens, back in the days when Hip-Hop started. I used to watch all the police shows on TV back then and idolized actors like Jim Kelly, Richard Roundtree, Jim Brown, etc., especially when they played cops or detectives. The original Shaft is one of my favorites. I decided to follow my dreams and got into policing to help people and right some of the wrongs I saw growing up. My plan was to one day becoming a detective, so I climbed the ranks, making detective in 2000, working my way up to the Homicide Squad, Hostage Negotiations, and the rank of Detective 1st Grade by 2016 when I retired. After experiencing policing and being on the front-lines and interacting with the young people in our communities, I wanted to do more. I continued my education, earning my Master’s and Doctorate, with the intention of teaching future law enforcement officers and being able to provide mentorship for the youth. I started teaching at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where I teach future law enforcement officers about the criminal justice and policing, with a repeated emphasis on interacting with our communities with dignity and respect. I also wrote several books, the first book is to help guide the youth through the obstacles of life, Forward Motion… the Keys to Progress and Success, the second book is to guide fu-
ture law enforcement officers 23
through the ups and downs of a career in policing, The Personal Side of Policing, and the third is a children’s book to help reduce children’s fear of police and provide a fair assessment of what policing is supposed to look like, The Police Are Part Of Our Community. I also started two companies where I do speaking engagements, provide workshop, and forums for adults and the youth. The companies are focused on educating and changing the mindsets of our young to allow them to see the opportunities they have in front of them and educating our adults on raising their game to the next level and achieving everything they want in life. The companies have conducted a College/Trade School Scholarship, a Veteran’s and Homeless Sock Drive, a Success Academy Webinar Series, and a Police Interactions Seminar. GrinderZZ: You're now an author, and I'm so thrilled. I purchased 5 of your books to give my daughter, and her friend's. Can you give my audience some information about your book? Dr. Titus: After decades in Policing, I have seen the sentiment towards police change drastically. I felt the need to help create a different narrative, especially for the children. The book has simple language and is beautifully illustrated to show the diversity in our communities and in our police departments. The goal is to help improve the police-community relationship, help parents discuss policing with their children, and reduce the fear of the police by children. The book also contains words common to policing like community policing and deescalation, with definitions in the back, to encourage parents to discuss these terms with their children and explain how they can apply them to their lives. GrinderZZ: What made you decide to create a kid's book? Dr. Titus: Since writing this book, many have asked me why I chose to write a children’s book and furthermore, why a children’s policing book. My reasons stem from several different areas. First and foremost, is a responsibility I feel to the children. Throughout the last few years we have seen more police-community conflict than in many of years preceding those. More recent tragedies occurring at the hands of police led to protests and violence in the streets. Additionally, conversations at home, around the dinner table, and in family and living rooms were focused on policing, how bad the police are, and how they should be defunded, etc. In many of these conversations, all police were bad, and none could be trusted. As adults, we are all entitled to our opinions, and we are free to feel or think about issues as we please. The concern that I held with these conversations was that in many cases, the children were there or in earshot, when these conversations were taking place. When a child hears that a person or a group of people are bad and should be avoided, it instills fear in their hearts. Children cannot dissect what that really means, they can only be afraid. Afraid to go to the police in an emergency, afraid when the police stop their parents, and worst of all – afraid when they are stopped by the police. Even if that stop occurs years later when they are older, the fear has been instilled already. A fear that will surface during a police interaction and can look like aggression, defiance, and even resistance. All dangerous behavior when interacting with law enforcement. My concern here is that the misconceptions that place all police in one damming category, will lead to unnecessary conflicts between the police and our future generations. Rather than lead by example 24
and explain that there are some bad police officers, just as there are bad doctors, bad lawyers, and bad auto mechanics, etc. Our children need to know the evil that exist, while also knowing that they should not walk in fear, because evil is not the only thing that exist, there is good and bad in all facets of life. By knowing and understanding this, our future adults can learn to assess each situation individually and then interact accordingly. GrinderZZ: Since we've last spoke, there's been a tremendous amount of craziness between the, public, and officer's who think they're beyond the law. What's your input on everything that's been happening? Dr. Titus: First and foremost, there are individuals in policing that do not belong in law enforcement. There are ways of thinking that do not belong in policing, and from what I am seeing – they are being identified and weeded out. The Criminal Justice System and Policing in the U.S. are not perfect institutions; however they are going through tremendous transition right now. Injustices are being addressed like they never were before. Some of the decisions, policies, programs, and advancements we are seeing today are some of the achievements our ancestors were fighting for decades ago. Convictions, rule and policy changes, promotions, elections, etc… there is progress. For change to occur, there must be struggle, and that is what we have seen over the last few decades, and things are changing. There is still a lot to do and many more battles to be fought and won, some will come easy and soon, while others will be difficult and take time. Based on the direction things are going, I predict that we will see less injustice and more justice on our streets and in our courtrooms, over the next few decades. However, for that to happen, our people must get involved and be part of the solution. Not just by protesting, but by getting into law, policing, politics, etc. Police departments will never be abolished, and defunding hurts our communities, as we can see by the rise in crime and violence in our communities throughout the country. The key is having representation in policing at the highest levels, in corrections at the highest levels, in politics at the highest levels, in the criminal justice system and the courtrooms at the highest levels. That is how we gain traction, that is how we right wrongs, that is how we win! GrinderZZ: How have you and your family been able to cope with the pandemic? Dr. Titus: We are all doing well. We have all remained healthy and have learned to adjust to the new way of living that the pandemic has created. We have become more grateful for each other and have learned to cherish the moments we can share together. It has been an adjustment. GrinderZZ: Are you currently working on another book? Dr. Titus: I am working on several books: a criminal justice textbook, a follow-up to the first two books, a book highlighting some of the great cases I was part of while working Homicide and Hostage Negotiations in NYPD, and a fictional Detective Drama Trilogy. It’s exciting, I enjoy writing and the calm that is associated with it for me. 25
aderie that exists between officers. It is like having a huge family that is always there when you need them. The police department also has organizations that put on numerous events throughout the year that help officers stay together. GrinderZZ: What advice can you give to someone who may be looking to get into, law enforcement, or becoming an author? Dr. Titus: Law enforcement is a great career choice, and the pension is an extra bonus. I tell all my students who may be on the fence about policing, that policing is going through a huge transition based on the changing perspective of the new generation and society as a whole. Now is an exciting time to be part of policing that is not the old policing, but the new policing. Additionally, they can be part of the many changes that occurring and the many opportunities that are opening for them. Once I became an Author, I realized that a lot of people want to write and become authors. I say, do it! The internet and social media have made writing and publishing an easier task than in the past. I suggest, keeping notes, jot things down, make recording notes on your phone of ideas, and then just write. Sit down with a pen and paper or on a computer and just let the ideas flow, without worrying about spelling, grammar, or punctuation – just write. Then, take a look and see what you have and decide where you want to take it from there, by either adding to the front-end of the story or adding more towards the end. You can always correct grammar and the like later. GrinderZZ: May you share with my audience the website to purchase your book? Dr. Titus: Signed copies of my books can be purchased from either of my websites: www.atitusconsulting.com or www.forwardmotionlifesuccess.org They can also be purchased through Amazon. GrinderZZ: Do you have any last words/shout outs that you'd like to share right now? Dr. Titus: I’d like to shout out my beautiful adult children: Tiffany, Brianna, and Michael. I’d also like to thank you for interviewing me and for providing this great platform that allows voices to be heard. It is important that we are able to share our experiences with others, in hopes that it inspires them to reach for the goals and dreams they desire in life!

VASHAWN QUINONES
ON THE GrINd Back in 2019, I was honored to have conducted an interview with the father of this young man. Vashawn is the son of the late Godfather of dance, Mr. Adolfo Quinones. You guys should remember Adolfo, when he was a Soul Train dancer. He had also toured with Michael Jackson, and Madonna. The one thing, that all sticks in our hearts, is his portrait of the character, Ozone, from the Breakin and Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo movies. Let's hear from Vashawn. GrinderZZ: Man, what can I say! Thank you, Vashawn, for agreeing to do this interview with me, at the GrinderZZ studio. Please tell my audience a little about yourself. Vashawn: I'm honored, thank you for having me. My name is Vashawn Quinones. I'm 44 years old and I'm the son of Shabba Doo, of the legendary dance group The Lockers and Ozone of Breakin 1 and 2. Let me add that my dad also toured with Bette Midler, Lionel Ritchie, and Fresh Fest tour in 84 or 85. GrinderZZ: You are the son of one of the best and most famous dancer's in the world. What was it like growing up knowing that everyone idolized your father and his art of dancing? Vashawn: At first It didn't hit me, But as I got older and being on social media and seeing people from around the world, young and old still wanting to learn how to "Lock" It's pretty amazing. When people find out who my dad is, they tell how much of an Impact The Lockers and as well as the Breakin films had on them, it puts a smile on my face. GrinderZZ: Your father did an interview with me back in 2019, and we became great friends. What cool thing can you tell his fans right now about your father that we never knew? Vashawn: Outside of dance, Dad had a silly sense of humor. He loved storytelling. He had passion for cinema as well as photography. He graduated from American Film Institute back in 96 and was taught by some of the best the business, like Screenwriter Frank Pierson (Dog Day Afternoon) and Cinematographer Bill Dil (The Five Heartbeats). GrinderZZ: You have a podcast going on where you talk about different movies with different actor's/producers. Can you tell us about it? Vashawn: Yes I do! My brother Fullee Love (Jurassic 5) and I do a podcast together were critique past and present films. The show is called "Viewer Discretion Iz Advised" You can find us on Youtube. GrinderZZ: How were you affected, if at all, by the lockdown the world experienced back 27
in 2019 job wise? Vashawn: It didn't affect me at all (In a bad way) I think I made and saved more money last year than ever before. Between Hazardous pay, overtime pay, plus stimulus, I made out pretty good. GrinderZZ: Are there any project's you can speak about on this interview with us? Vashawn: There are some projects that are in the "grass roots stages" but until things are finalized and legally confirmed, I cannot talk about them at this time. GrinderZZ: Would you ever consider doing a movie if given the opportunity? Vashawn: Absolutely! GrinderZZ: If you had the chance to interview 3 actors, who would they be and why? Vashawn: Hmmm? One actor comes to mind, Wesley Snipes. That cat was my Richard Rountree for the 90s. As far as black actors in the action genre are concerned, still untouchable. That's as far as actors goes, I'm more into people behind the scenes. Here are some filmmakers I would like to interview: 1. Spike Lee 2. Barry Michael Cooper 3. Malik Hassan Sayeed 4. Allen and Alber Hughes 5. Bill Duke GrinderZZ: Can you give my audience a link to your podcast, and info on how to reach out to you? Vashawn: You can fine me on Facebook and IG as Vashawn Quinones or you can go to my Youtube Channel "Viewer Discretion Iz Advised." 28
GrinderZZ: What advice would you give someone who's thinking about starting their very own podcast? Vashawn: Find something you're passionate about and have fun with it. GrinderZZ: Any last words/requests? Vashawn: "Believe in the Beat" and "Always Strive for Greatness" Shabba Doo. GrinderZZ: VaShawn, it's been real. Thank you for coming by the studio. Continue to follow your dreams, and please stay in touch with us. Vashawn: Thanks again for having me!

An Interview With: Melvin Edmonds Jr.
I'm so happy that I told Melvin to stay in touch with us, here at the GrinderZZ studio. For those who didn't catch the first interview, Melvin Edmonds Jr. is the son of the late, Melvin Edmonds Sr., from the sultry 90's R&B group, After 7. He is, also, the nephew of music producer, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Let's find out what Melvin's been up to.
31
GrinderZZ: Hey there Melvin! Welcome back, buddy! Please, tell my audience a little about yourself? Melvin: Hello and thanks for having me back!!! Well, I am an R&B/Hip Hop artist. By the way, I go by the name Mad Weights. I am Independent and have been since my group Y.P.A., back in 2008. My music is available on all major platforms. I have a passion for music. That's the reason for me choosing music as a career. This is the only way I know to keep my family’s name relevant, in the industry. GrinderZZ: It's been three years since we last conducted your interview. What's been going on with you? Melvin: Yes, a lot has happened since then. For starters, my old label Mad City Productions has become in partnership with Fatboy Music. I also added my brother Skribb$ to the Mad City roster. He is a California native with an east coast flow. We have been working a lot since Skribb$ arrived last year. He has been featured in a lot of my singles, He has a single out now also available on all major platforms called Dip Set. Be sure to check him out!!! Now finally, the big news is my brother Skribb$ and I (Mad Weights) have teamed up with 9Gotti of D4L to create an R&B/Hip Hop group called LA CONFIDENTIAL. GrinderZZ: You're the son of, the late, Melvin Edmonds Sr. Your father was an icon, and a sweet, gentle soul. What's one cool memory you can share with the audience, about your father? Melvin: The memory of me seeing my father perform for the first time was a feeling like none other, to actually look up on the stage and see my dad do his thing. The way the crowd reacted to his voice was amazing. I was about five yrs. old at the time, but I knew after that night that I wanted to be the one to carry our family legacy. I want to be great like my father some day in the future. 32
GrinderZZ: The ending of 2019 got a little scary for the world, and it continued into, 2020. We're you able to cope with the lockdown when it came to you creating music in the studio? Melvin: During the lockdown I was in the studio recording every day. We got a lot done and made a lot of moves for the future of our label. GrinderZZ: Are there any projects that you're able to discuss with us, in this interview? Melvin: I am currently working on the LA CONFIDENTIAL project with my brother Skribb$ and 9Gotti. I am also working on a R&B project called The Love Letter. I am also working with Skribb$ on his album which will hit sometime around the spring called Spring Cleaning. We are also looking to invest into some other areas. So expect to hear more in the near future on that topic. GrinderZZ: Will you be doing any sort of traveling and performances overseas, going into 2022? Melvin: I don't see myself doing any traveling, anytime soon. There are too many restrictions, at this point.

VALENTINE’S DAY TRIBUTES
Daryl & Angela
“If someone would've told me that I would be engaged and about to marry The Godfather of Soul’s (James Brown) son, I would have thought they were crazy. Ever since Daryl walked into my life, I've been more than overjoyed. With his two daughters and my two daughters, we've blended and have become the perfect family. I love them as if they were my very own and he loves my daughters the same way, not to mention his grandchildren, Braylin, Austin, and Grace are my pride and joy. Daryl admitted that I was his soul mate and I definitely feel the same way. In a couple of months, I will become, Mrs. Brown. I can't WAIT!” 41
THE ULTIMATE SURPRISE I had the pleasure of filming some drops (commercials), and conducting an interview with actress/director/ acting coach, Angela Gibbs. If the last name rings a bell, it's because she is the daughter of the beautiful and legendary actress, Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons, 227). Angela will be my co-host on the show i have been developing for the past 4 years called, The Ultimate Surprise Show. This show will be like no other that's out there, and the theme to the show is.....bringing the American family back to the dinner table again. Angela and I have amazing stories that are real tear jerkers, so each and every show, our audience will be provided a box of kleenex. I decided to bring along my two daughter's, Briana Zalamar and Demetria Crandell so they can share into my experience. Angela Gibbs brought along her sister Yolanda as well to help out with the filming. My close friend/cousin Tee Lane Wofford did an amazing job filming the entire project. We all were ecstatic, and pleased with the ending results. 2019 will be our year.....the year for the Ultimate Surprise Show.

With everything that's been going on this year, I'm so thrilled to see a comeback with old school hip hop music. Mc Silver Fox, aka, Reginald Hobdy is one of the men who's bringing back the beat. Let's talk to Silver FOX. GrinderZZ: What's up Mc Silver Fox! Thank you, and welcome to GrinderZZ. Please tell my audience a little about yourself. Silver Fox: Peace Thank you for having me at your studio. I am Mc Silver Fox. I’m From Harlem New York, and I was born, Reginald Hobdy Jr. I’m the eldest of seven children. I grew up in General Grant Houses On 125th Street and Amsterdam Ave. that’s actually four blocks from the Legendary Apollo Theater. GrinderZZ: At what age did you first get into music? Silver Fox: I really got into music at the age of eight. In our community Center, there was an instructor named Kim Wong who taught Steel Drums or the Pan Drum. I studied with him for years. When I was in Junior high school, I auditioned, and received a scholarship to Manhattan School Of music. There I learned theory, sight singing, and ear training. I studied percussion because the steel drum was not an instrument thought in Manhattan School of Music.
44
GrinderZZ: You were a part of the group, The Fantasy Three. Who came up with the name? Silver Fox: The name Fantasy Three was Charlie Rock‘s Idea. I really wanted a name that signified us being a group to recon with. In Harlem, we were associated With The Treacherous Three, and The Fearless Four. Devastating Tito of the Fearless Four was instrumental in getting Fantasy Three together. Mc Silver Fox was already established as a Solo Mc since the 70s. Fantasy Three formed in 1983. GrinderZZ: Back in the day, you were battling at parties, and the clubs. Were any of those battles with anyone we may be familiar with? Silver Fox: I as a solo Artist Mc Silver Fox, I battled Everybody, That’s how I gained my reputation as a formidable adversary. My Partner Kev Ski, (Kevin Sheppard) from Grant houses, took me to every block party and PAL (Police Athletic League) parties. Most notable are battles with Kool G Rap at a Club called Joe Grants. I tried to battle Kool Moe D, however he cleverly avoided me. Kool Moe D was the best in Harlem. I felt if I battled him, win or lose, it would be notable. I have lots of respect for him. I battled LL Cool J constantly in 1983 he hung out with me for a whole summer before he was signed to death jam. LL Cool J credits Mc Silver Fox as his teacher. Mc Silver Fox also deeply Influenced Kool G Rap. GrinderZZ: You joined the group, L.O.D Posse In 1985, then you were down with the All Powerful Jam Masters in 1986, and then the Enterprise in 1988. Do you still stay in contact with any of the members from any of these groups?
45
Silver Fox: I, most definitely, do stay in touch. The L.O.D. (Legion of Doom) Posse Consisted of DJ Soul, Mc Fresh G, Stephon Evans, and Mc Silver Fox. Stephon Evans recently did a track for me. I made Back In The Daze To it. The All Powerful Jam Masters was a massive group a bunch of dancers, Twi DJs and Mc Silver Fox as the MC. Da Enterprise was founded by Shay Drastic. They were already established with groups like Self Contained, and Trey Deep. Solo MCs like Big D, Raze, Cheeb Wu, D Bear, and my Dude Big Doc. Big Doc was the one that introduced me to Shay Drastic. GrinderZZ: You also created, the Made Millennium album, 1999-2000. Back then, were you doing any shows with the new material you’re creating? Silver Fox: The New Millennium Album was a joint project with Big Doc, and Mc Silver Fox, under DA Enterprise label, produced, mixed, and mastered by Shay Drastic. There is a Doc side, and a Fox side. We did numerous shows, based in Atlantic City, and New Jersey. We covered the whole Tri-State area. Jersey, Philadelphia and New York. We self distributed our tapes and CDs. Hustle, hustle! Lol! Our music was also played down south. I shipped a bunch to Savannah Georgia. There was a great CD and Cassette market down south. GrinderZZ: You now reside in Brooklyn, where you teamed up with one of the hottest music producers, Mr. Angel Speed Colon and you released a single called, Wheels Fall Off under Light Speed Music. How is it working with Mr. Colon in the studio? Silver Fox: My residence is in constant flux. I have a residence in New Jersey, and back in Harlem. I’m also a San Diego CA resident. As to your Question: working With Angel Speed Colon is like working with family. DJ Speed is consistently coming up with new and hot music. Angel also makes sure that nothing but the best comes from Lite Speed Music. His ear is tuned in, and if he hears something he will say *Nah Fox let’s do it again* so he’s like a coach, a creator, an engineer, a businessman, and I am proud to say A good friend. GrinderZZ: You also made the Resurrection Album under your own thing, Silver Fox Music. Are you also helping other artists, new and old, with music? 46
GrinderZZ: What advice would you give someone who is trying their feet into the music? Silver Fox: My Advice is LEARN THE BUSINESS!! Many new artist are so hungry to get out there, they take a big L. Record companies will use you up and spit you out. Also, remember you can do it with the proper tools, and an investment in yourself. GrinderZZ: How can reach out to you?

Silver Fox: I wanted to Try putting music out under my own brand Silverfoxmusicus. I feel that I have to learn the business before I could help anyone else with this business of music. The way music is done and even distributed is ever changing. Gone are the compact disks, welcome the digital age. I do help and mentor new artist. I have Nephews J.A.H.G., and ETRYDE, also KING G, who have acclimated to the digital age. I have grand children (yes grandchildren) doing music and videos.
