SENSATION

DESIGN STRATEGY • My collection was inspired by a previous project ‘’re-re’’ where I took inspiration from classical dresses that had volume. • I found objects that fascinated me at the V&A, in particular a dress in the wedding exhibition which had volume in the sleeve and hips. • Using volume a woman’s silhouette would be exaggerated, sculptured and given a 3D circular shape. • For my collection I want women to look innocent, pure and sensitive. I want to make every woman feel unique, and bring back a classic style. • The colour palette is white, representing innocence and purity, new beginnings, equality and unity. • Fabrics such as crepe, scuba or wool are good to work with to give the wanted shape and structure. For my collection I used scuba. • To give a the garments a delicate look or textures, silk fabrics such as chiffon or organza can be used. I select organza for my garments

Quote White is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black. God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white. ― G.k Chesterton, Orthodoxy

DIVERSITY

DESIGN STRATEGY •

• • • • • • • • • •

Diversity can be defined as any and all differences in things, for example the differences between people. We immediately face the challenge of figuring out which differences are at play as well as which are significant. One approach to this challenge is to try to identify types or categories of difference. I was interested in the quote by Maya Angelou “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” Scientists describe human diversity largely in terms of gender and ethnicity. We know that sex is an important type of biological diversity. Gender is an important category of human diversity because it affects almost every dimension of our lives. So, when thinking about human diversity, it is important to think about the continuum of sex and gender. There is also physical diversity in race, within and between races. Some difference are subtle, for example eye or hair colour, while others are more pronounced, such as skin colour. So apart from physical difference because of gender and ethnicity, we have to look at the differences in physical form, those which can be caused by injury or mutation. One such difference I found interesting is Siamese twins, who are defined as a pair of identical twins born with their bodies joined at some point. I took inspiration from the artist Lucy Orta and also from the designer Comme Les Garcons, who created amazing combined garments twins clothes. From this idea I will develop mine. For my silhouette I want an extravagant, geometric silhouette sculpture. For all the designers we been ask to see I’m interested in Rick Owen who is using a lot of geometric shapes and patterns. To begin with I plan to do some research about diversity, I shall do some brainstorming, find out the history of the word diversity then I will find some visual images of artists or designers who have used siamese twins. I will use all this for inspiration in my design

RE-RE

RE-discover RE-unite RE-invent RE-sponsible

DESIGN STRATEGY Exaggeration is defined as a representation of something in an excessive manner. The reason why I choose it is because when I look back at eras of fashion I was inspired by the 70S where the use of fabric was excessive manner, for instance the large collars on shirts and flared trousers, compared to the more minimalistic and sleek look on modern day clothing. My first visit was to the V&A where I was inspired by the volume of fabric used in certain garments. How sculpture the clothes were design and made. For this project I will look at a contemporary volume dress, the historical garment was used as my inspiration to do my mood boards, and choosing my customer profile and starting to develop my ideas,

GRACE AND MABEL

DESIGN STRATEGY The topic for my project is METAMORPHOSE Metamorphose is defined as a change or transformation into a wholly different form or appearance. My main reason to choosing this title is because I was interested in British history trench coat. I have been to Burberry shop to see how trench coat are made and examined every detail design, for example belt patch button, and the length. For this project I will look at the historical of a trench coat and how that changed nowadays.
