At one point I was afraid that it might affect the outcome of our June/July issue. I am very proud and happy to announce that, not only were we able to accomplish our goal, we actually added eight more beautiful and informative pages to this issue. We are now printing twenty thousand copies and deliver our magazine by mail to all of Malibu while still delivering on the free stands from Beverly Hills to Ventura.

Number of treatments: Most spider veins need a series of 6 treatments for optimal results.
Q
I Want to Wear Shorts and Skirts This Summer but I Hate the Spider Veins in my Legs. Is There Anything I can do? Yes, there is and you can wear shorts and skirts this summer! When it comes to treating Telangiectasia, commonly referred to as spider veins, Sclerotherapy treatment is the gold standard. This treatment is favored by the majority of physicians and is approved by the FDA. In our practice, we have treated hundreds of women, and even some men, for this relatively harmless, but unwelcomed condition.
Treatment details: Sclerotherapy treatments are simple, fast and fairly painless. The treatment area will be injected with a sclerosing agent and depending upon the size of the area being treated, more than one injection is typically necessary. Most procedures take about 30 to 45 minutes to perform and are done right in the office. The solution is an irritant that makes the veins collapse and eventually fade out of sight. You will need to wear compression stockings initially to help the veins collapse properly. Walking is a good thing, so plan to do that daily as you watch your unsightly spider veins disappear. Sclerotherapy is a terrific solution for treating spider veins and will get you back in your favorite shorts and skirts this summer!
Treatment: Spider veins: those red, purple, and blue veins that are most often seen on the legs.
Please call 805-263-4204 to schedule a complimentary spider vein consultation.

3
Q: What sets Bobi Leonard’s skincare line of products apart from the rest? A: Our line incorporates the best scientific discoveries in skincare with pharmaceutical grade ingredients. Widely hyped, commercial grade skincare and beauty supplies found in top department stores are NOT pharmaceutical grade and cannot come close to achieving the amazing results you will discover with my line of skincare products. Price point is the same as department store facial beauty products. I use a specialized blend of exotic oils, deep hydrators, ingredients that bind moisture to the skin, and my patented cell renewal and tissue regeneration ingredients. Our Bobi Leonard Skincare line comes in formulas for the face and the body. EGF and Stem Cell sunscreens are also available.
T
elevision personality and famous interior designer to the stars, BOBI LEONARD , did years of scientific research to find a product that would work on her own badly damaged skin. She finally found Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). This amazing ingredient is the basis for Bobi’s skincare line and has made Bobi Leonard Skincare the premiere skincare line in the nation.
1
Q: You know how much we all spend on beauty products that really don't work. What makes Bobi Leonard's skin care different? A: I’m asked that question all the time. EGF was actually developed by NASA after they observed that the astronauts’ skin looked significantly older after only a short time in space. With much research, NASA discovered that the naturally-occurring growth factor in skin could be duplicated and used to
regenerate skin. Our EGF is a potent protein derived from recombinant DNA. It catalyzes the natural healing process of the cells by causing the cells to divide and multiply. EGF is all natural with no mineral oil, no lanolin, no petroleum and no animal testing. Until recently, the cost of synthesizing this product was too high to be commercially viable. Today these products are now available to the public and that’s where we
come in. Our Epidermal Growth Factor Kit is a specialized anti-aging kit and one of the most concentrated formulations in the United States. Our Stem Cell Therapy line will give you visibly younger skin in 30 days. Our organic, plant-derived stem cells stimulate fresh, new skin cell production and increase elastin synthesis. As a result, you will see fewer wrinkles and enjoy dramatically younger, healthier, supple, radiant skin.

Q
What Are the Most Common Causes and Treatments for Cervical Spine Pain?
A
For those suffering from chronic neck pain, it is often difficult to pinpoint exactly how the injury may have occurred as well as how to treat it. The two most common causes of neck pain are
16 /

a hyperextension of the cervical spine or a degenerative condition of the spine, such as arthritis. Typically, most patients are more familiar with the term “whiplash when discussing a hyperextension of the neck. Whiplash occurs when the spine is hyperextended forward or backward (or both) in a sudden and violent motion. Most often this occurs in an auto accident, but can also occur due to a slip and fall or sports injury. While some cases of whiplash will subside with conservative care, other cases will result in the herniation of a cervical spine disc. The cause of this is the mass amount of force exerted by an auto accident or injury which causes a shift in the alignment of the spine and can force a spinal disc outward
into the spinal canal. Oddly, many patients do not notice pain until hours or even days after an accident. For this reason, it is very important to seek medical attention immediately following an accident, even if no symptoms are present. Whiplash can occur at speeds as low as 14 MPH. Another common cause of neck pain is the formation of osteophytes (bone spurs) on the facet joints of the spine. The facet joints are small stabilizing joints located between and behind the cervical vertebrae. Degenerative conditions, such as osteoarthritis, cause a breakdown of the cartilage in the facet joints. In an effort to repair this damage, the body will form calcium deposits or new bone spurs where the cartilage has deteriorated. When these osteophytes protrude into the spinal canal, they often cause irritation of the spinal nerve roots causing both localized and radiating pain. The most common symptom of a chronic cervical spine condition is a sharp pain when rotating or extending the neck in a particular direction. However, other symptoms such as persistent headaches, pain radiating into the arms and fingers as well as burning or tingling in the arms and fingers are also telltale signs of a
cervical spine condition. It is important to consult a spine specialist at the first onset of pain as ignoring symptoms can lead to permanent motor and sensory deficits. Dr. Anthony Virella is a Board-Certified, Fellowship trained Neurological Spine Surgeon with advanced training in the management of complex spinal disorders. He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and is a graduate of the UCLA Neurosurgery Residency Program. Dr. Virella completed his complex spine in-folding resident fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation with Dr. Edward C. WHAT IS IT? What is the healthiest action for our memories we all forget to take? Well, believe it or not......it's breathing. Not the breathing you do naturally and unconsciously, but the DEEP BREATHING you have to think about consciously and then do. And why should you care about DEEP Breathing? And how does it assist your memory process? Well, first of all, deep breathing increases the oxygen flow to your brain cells. This wakes them up and gets them going. Deep breathing also relieves stress and promotes relaxation, and your memory always works better when you're relaxed. Under stress, your blood pressure shoots skyward, your muscles tighten and knot up, your heart becomes a drum beat, and your breathing quickens into overdrive. To override these stress reactions you should invite in some relaxation by scooping up some deep long breaths.
WHY WE FORGET TO DO IT Whereas regular breathing comes naturally and unconsciously to every living thing -even plants- deep breathing does not. And it sometimes feels unnatural. That's why we often forget to do it. And I know that all too well. Although I walk up a mountain trail most days of the week, many times I'm halfway up the mountain when I realize I've forgotten to really make use of the air. Yes, you read me right....even 'America's Memory Motivator' often forgets about taking those big gulps. But, after the first deep breath I've had to remind myself to take, my memory wakes up - my emotions settle down - my feet get more lively - and the long trek doesn't seem so tough. {Take a deep breath now!} ( If you're wondering why I keep walking that mountain, it's because walking promotes the growth of neu-
rons in your grey matter, and any exercise causes you to breathe more. And chewing gum* while you're at it increases the flow of blood to the brain which helps focus and concentration and leads to improved memory retention.) *[I chew Trident-It protects and cleans.] FILL YOUR LUNGS & FUEL YOUR BRAIN Although everyone is born with the ability to Deep Breathe, most of us just ignore it. Did you ever have someone tell you to take a
{Take a deep breath now!} DEEP BREATHING AND STUDYING If your mind wanders off the track while studying, bring your attention back and focus on some deep breathing to build your concentration. Attention and concentration are the mainstays of a good memory, and deep breathing enables you to concentrate. Taking a deep breath is like turning on an electrical switch in your mind. Try it. You'll be cognitively surprised. SO REMIND YOURSELF I bet you haven't taken one deep breath since you sat down to read this article. (In fact, you probably haven't taken one all day.) Remember the line in that old song... “It's easy to remember but so hard to forget.” Well...it's just the opposite with Deep Breathing... “It's so hard to remember but easy to forget.” You should be doing it all the time and everywhere: When you get out of bed in the morning; When you're brewing the coffee; When you're watering the plants; When you're driving to work; When you're making love (uh-uh... that one comes naturally...if my memory serves me).
deep breath when you're angry or fearful or in a confrontational situation? Although that's exactly what you should do - it's often the opposite that you will do. Usually you'll tighten up and hold your breath. Wrong!!! That won't get you over any humps. If, instead, you take a few real deep breaths, you'll be able to slay the dragon. Whether breathing from the diaphragm, abdominally, or belly breathing, let the rush of air thoroughly fill your lungs. You should always inhale through the nose, hold your breath a few seconds to let your body absorb the oxygen, and then exhale through the mouth. The more oxygen you inhale the clearer your thinking becomes. It's a great healing mechanism for your physical as well as your emotional health.
{Take a deep breath now!} BREATHING-101 If you breathe properly your lungs will expand. When you fill your lungs completely with the oxygenated air you need to keep you healthy, your chest and your belly will rise. Then, when you exhale, your diaphragm will push against your lungs and this helps to expel any carbon dioxide. By deep abdominal breathing we are gathering and then exchanging the healthy incoming oxygen for the outgoing carbon dioxide. Your heartbeat will slow down...your blood pressure will lower...---your doctor will love you.
Anyway, channel your unconscious shallow breathing into conscious Deep Breathing whenever you can. Eliminate any stresses that are invading your brain space and instruct your brain in order to get the deepest breathing benefits. Help yourself to a big scoop. It doesn't cost a penny more but it pays off infinitely. B- is for the Burst of pep it gives you R- is for the Respiratory drive E- is for that Easy peaceful feeling, A- is 'cause it's keepin' you Alive, T- is for the Tingle that runs through you, H- is for the Health it brings about, Put them all together and then breathe it, It's the BREATH we cannot live without! JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

ASK THE EXPERT Dr. Bob S. Perkins
Q
Are you Suffer -ing from Chronic Headaches, Migraines, TMD, or Jaw Pain?
20 /
JUNE.JULY 2015 MALIBUCHRONICLE.COM
A
Chronic facial pain can be devastating. Temporal Mandibular Joint/Temporal Mandibular Disorder (TMJ/TMD) pain and chronic headaches affects up to 25 – 30% of the population, and disproportionately, most are women. Invariably, these symptoms are related to imbalances in the muscles that support the jaw. When your “bite” is not balanced, there is a ripple effect. The muscles of the face and head are firing too strongly and too often. This can manifest as headaches, migraines, neck pain, postural changes, ringing in the ears, dizziness, clicking of the jaw joints, soreness in the jaw muscles, limited ability to open the mouth, and chipping or wearing of the teeth. Muscles are required to bring your teeth together. If bringing your teeth together requires
certain muscles to overwork, then they will soon become fatigued and they will enlist help from other groups of muscles in the head and neck. As muscle groups begin to fatigue we start to see a distortion in the way the head and neck relate and a change in the posture, among other changes. If the teeth aren’t coming together in the right place, then too often, the joint and muscles wont be comfortable. Treating TMJ/TMD and chronic headaches requires calming the muscles. This is accomplished by establishing a new relationship between the upper and lower jaws where the muscles don’t have to overwork in order to bring the teeth together. It requires a non surgical, orthopedic solution which invariably restores proper facial proportions and balance to the face. “Form follows function” as a great, modern architect once said. That is to say, that if the face looks proportional and balanced, it is highly likely that the muscles and joints are comfortable. Edson came to my office with debilitating headaches, neck aches, TMJ pain, and a general sense of malaise. He had been to numerous specialists with no relief. No one had taken a neuromuscular approach. Prescriptions were given and many tests, but no results. He was defeated and almost hopeless. We comfortably found and created a new bite posi-
tion for Edson that brought balance and comfort to the muscles. This not only eliminated 15 years of symptoms but it gave his face the proportions and balance it had been lacking. This is a holistic approach. Nothing but a holistic approach will bring these results. A “night guard” or “splint” is a band-aid approach, at best. Jennifer ‘s face and eyes looked very strained and uncomfortable. Her muscles were overworking to bring the teeth together in her existing, pathological bite. Her teeth were extremely worn down from muscle agitation. When the jaw relationship was modified such that the muscles and joints were balanced and comfortable, Jennifer’s face took on a renewed appearance. She looks much younger, poised, and she is pain free. Come to our office for a complimentary consultation to see if we can comfortably restore health, balance and function, and eliminate chronic pain. Visit our website at www.malibutmj.com and hear testimonials from just a few of the many patients who have experienced this relief. With our neuromuscular approach, a solution is just a visit away.

Martin feels very fortunate to have made a movie called “Awaken Your Riches” allowing him unique access to some enlightened millionaires and billionaires who were inspired by Napoleon Hill’s famous book, “Think and Grow Rich.” Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and “One Minute Millionaire,” also became a movie investor in “Awaken Your Riches.” The movie is
LovEarth, a privately owned company, is part of a huge tide of businesses that are ‘changing course’ and giving their profits back to humanity because most people wish for a world where our children can thrive and be happy. Martin points out, “We all know that terrible suffering exists - most of us feel helpless. This is the business model of LoveEarth.” He adds, “LovEarth’s affiliates are our true ‘shareholders.’ It’s all about shopping dollars - and a simple shift to our superstore that gives back. It is beautiful.” Dunkerton was educated at the Royal College of Art where he received his MA in Film. In addition to completing the movie “Awaken Your Riches,” he has republished “Think and Grow Rich” with a division of Simon and Schuster as a co-venture with LovEarth. Causes and artists are given their own website on LovEarth for free, something that would ordinarily cost about $2,500. According to Dunkerton, “We

can help causes look good and give them a free platform so anyone around the world can shop via their page. We gift 66% of the gross profits on 2 affiliate tiers 33%33%, so we’re a free money-making machine for them.” “We just worked with Hollywood actor Andrew Keegan and brought his amazing church “FULL CIRCLE” onto LovEarth. Andrew is an example of how celebrity power and causes are a potent mix, as we can support his cause via our 20,000 products. Right now we’re creating a LovEarth web presence for rock stars, actors, film-makers, directors, producers, and some amazing authors,” Martin adds. Imagine, every time you go online shopping, you’re helping children, protecting dolphins, the oceans, rainforests, supporting war veterans, empowering women, planting trees, caring for teens with sickle cell disease, all while shopping for the products you love! Martin states, “I believe the gap between rich and poor just got smaller with the birth of LovEarth.com. For example, if you choose to shop via a war veteran charity on LovEarth, you’re supporting those who have served their nation with every purchase you make.”
LovEarth expects to attract affiliates from around the world. Because payments are automated, everything is transparent and all affiliates can track every sale and know the amount they are to receive each and every month. Every affiliate globally has 24/7 access. It hasn’t always been easy for Martin as he explains, “I was a key-note speaker in Malaysia with the Napoleon Hill Foundation’s World Conference on “Think and Grow Rich” to an audience of over a thousand people that included the King. We screened the director’s cut of our movie “Awaken Your Riches” and it was the ‘crown jewel’ of the event and a huge success, receiving rapturous applause. One woman came up to me and whispered in my ear, “I was thinking of committing suicide and your movie has given me hope.” Unbeknown to Martin and his fellow producers in the USA, their distributor stole all their money to pay his debts. In the process, Martin nearly lost the rights to his own film. He found himself without a dime. Suddenly, after the Malaysian premiere, he was homeless on Venice Beach. He prayed to the Divine, God, Infinite Intelligence – and received an answer: “If you gift 33% of your profits back to the Earth, back to humanity, you’ll be okay... you won’t be homeless any more.” The very next morning Martin went into a meeting with an environmentalist. Martin suggested that if he wanted to support a fledgling idea for a website, he could secure his advertising spot with a 50% deposit on a future entertainment website called LovEarth that gifted 33% of its profits back to the earth. He did and Martin wasn’t homeless again. Martin sold another ad spot at an entrepreneurial conference a week later, and soon afterwards got two significant investments in “Awaken Your Riches.” They claimed and won their rights back, and LovEarth as an idea was born. Just 12 days after being homeless on Venice beach, Leonardo DiCaprio’s media team agreed to help build the first draft website of LovEarth.com.” Martin says of his team, “Steve Wolk is our chief tech genius. He put the first Apple Mac into space with NASA and Apple Mac. Steve Huntsman is
our new President, Toni O’Bryan our COO and Daniel Fingerhut is our Executive Director for LoveCourses, a series on health, spirituality, love and much more. It’s an amazing team.” They have been supporting charities like Janee Markland’s new cause that in time will become a fully-fledged charity called “Sickle Kids Care,” which will help children who have lost their parents to sickle cell disease. Martin has personally invested over a quarter of a million dollars into LovEarth and it is expanding into amazing areas. With “Awaken Your Riches” launching in 2016 they have lots to look forward to and much to treasure right now. ARTHUR L. BERNSTEIN AND ARMANDO GUTIERREZ ARE MEN OF MANY TALENTS IN THE FILM AND TELEVISION INDUSTRY. COMBINED, THEIR CREDITS INCLUDE ACTING IN FILM, THEATRE AND TELEVISION, CINEMATOGRAPHY, EDITING, CASTING, ANIMATION, PRODUCTION DESIGN, PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT, CREW, WRITING, DIRECTING AND PRODUCING. BUT IT’S BEHIND THE CAMERA, WRITING, DIRECTING AND PRODUCING WHERE BERNSTEIN AND GUTIERREZ HIT THEIR STRIDE.
T
hey are passionate about film. Gutierrez received his Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Miami. After earning a Master’s Degree from Harvard University, he went on to study acting at the Guildhall School in London, which landed him an upcoming role in the Sam Heughen movie, When the Starlight Ends. Ever since Bernstein received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Motion Picture and Theatre Production at the University of Miami in Florida, he has enjoyed delving into a character’s psyche and the choices they make that change the course of their lives. It’s no wonder then that his latest endeavor is an independent film about the early years of Walt Disney called Walt Before Mickey, based on a book of the same name by Timothy S. Susanin.

“No one had ever done a movie about Walt’s early years. We wanted to show the man behind the magic. We want people to see that he is more than movies and theme parks. Walt was a man who came from meager beginnings and truly lived the American Dream, and built a kingdom from that dream,” Bernstein explains. The film chronicles the life of Walter (Walt) Elias Disney from his childhood in Missouri to his start as an animator. Bernstein and Gutierrez, the men behind the magic of this epic film, wrote and produced Walt Before Mickey. Walt Before Mickey is directed by Khoa Le and has a stellar cast that includes Thomas Ian Nicolas (American Pie) as Walt, John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) as Walt’s brother Roy, David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Rudy Ising, Jodie
Sweeting (Full House) as Charlotte Disney, Taylor Gray as Friz Freleng and Academy nominee Hunter Gomez (National Treasure) as Hugh Harmon. Bernstein also appears in the film, playing Frank L. Newman who was the first to give Disney the opportunity to present his animation on the big screen through his theater and film studio Newman Laugh– O–Gram Films. Gutierrez portrays the Disney legend, Ub Iwerks who helped co-create Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney’s daughter, the late Diane Disney Miller, wrote the forward to Susanin’s book and was actively involved in the process of making the film until her death. Bernstein and Gutierrez dedicate the movie to her memory. The world premier of Walt Before Mickey will be the featured film on opening night at The Skyway Film Festival,
which will run from June 12 – 14 in Brandenton, Florida. “There isn’t a better film for Opening Night to kick off our inaugural film festival - a story that follows the origins of Walt Disney, one of the most impactful entertainment pioneers in the history of film,” said Jose Restaino, Artistic Director of Skyway Film Festival. You can look forward to more from this magical producing duo Bernstein & Gutierrez. They are currently working on a new project titled Gehrig. The company has retained the rights to the New York Times best selling book Lou Gehrig: The Luckiest Man by Jonathan Eig. The film will be produced by Michael Uslan (Batman vs Superman, Lego Movie), David Uslan and Robert Molloy Steinbrenner. Attached to direct is Jay Russell (Ladder 49). The book is the definitive account of the life and tragic death of baseball legend Lou Gehrig. The film will delve into Gehrig’s life which was more complicated – and perhaps more heroic – than anyone really knew. Visit the official site for Walt Before Mickey: www.waltbeforemickey.com

ASK THE EXPERT Dr. Saj Jivraj
Can you Look Younger by Cosmetic Improvements to Your Smile?
Q – What are Preparation-less veneers? A – In certain indications the appearance of your teeth can be transformed through preparation-less veneers. Most people think your teeth need to be cut down to achieve this. With the technology and laboratory support we have today, your teeth can look years younger by using minimally invasive techniques. Our focus is to keep your tooth intact.
Many people do not realize the impact stained teeth, a narrow smile or broken and worn down teeth can have on their appearance. Dentistry today can provide dramatic results that can be obtained through teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and crowns, and dental implants to replace cracked, crooked and worn down teeth. Most of the techniques used today are very conservative and some require no tooth reduction at all. Your appearance can be changed without surgery to a more youthful look - a look that will enhance your confidence and self esteem and allow you to enjoy life more.
Q – What role does the laboratory play in the overall appearance of the teeth? A – It is very important to choose a team that is high level in every way. Enhancing the cosmetics of the front teeth is a very difficult procedure, which requires a lot of skill. Prosthodontists are specialists in this area. We work with high level laboratory technicians who have advanced training in these concepts. Most people do not know that Prosthodontists exist. Prosthodontists are specialists in cosmetic, implant and reconstructive dentistry. A prosthodontist will look at many things before starting treatment to ensure as well as cosmetic improvement, the patient will

obtain a result that has longevity. Q – What impact does a cosmetic procedure have on the patient? A – Enhancing the appearance of the teeth increases a patient's self-confidence, self-esteem and the way they interact with others. Of the thousands of patients we have treated, the only regret a patient has had is that they did not do it sooner. During the holidays, patients always want to look their best. Q – What makes Anacapa Dental Art Institute different? A – At Anacapa Dental we are Specialists in Cosmetic and Implant dentistry. We are Prosthodontists, true specialists in cosmetic and implant dentistry. We have performed the procedure for the last 14 years. We teach this procedure to dentists nationally and internationally. We provide a 10 year warranty. This is how confident we are that this will work for you. We will take very good care of you and your beautiful new smile. W
E HAVE ENTERED A NEW ERA, THE AGE OF QUANTUM PHYSICS, AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE LIFE FREE FROM OLD PARADIGMS AND PATTERNS. EMBARKING ON A JOURNEY OF SELF-REALIZATION, WE CAN UTILIZE THE POWER OF THE MIND TO CREATE A PATH LEADING TO THE HEART. WE ARE ON THE THRESHOLD WHERE TRUTH AND WISDOM BECOME OUR GUIDE AND THE AWARENESS OF CHOICE IS OUR MAGIC WAND.
LIFE IS FREQUENCY The Principle of Vibration states, “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” The basis of every state of mind and matter, including conditions of disease or health, is their primary state of vibration. The enhancement of your inner vibration, which is “the point of attraction” to the experiences in your life, is key to radiance, abundance and joy. The very life you live
is a reflection of your own vibrational essence. You are the creative force in your unfolding journey and it’s time to experience life as the “Artist.” What you think, feel, believe and speak is what you will create as your experiences. This includes your life circumstances and the health of your body.
EPIGENETICS The basis for our physical health is energy related. Our research into vibrational energy fields has exploded into the new Science of Epigenetics. The information being gathered encourages us to abandon obsolete beliefs that we are victims of predetermined genetic codes. It explains how perceptions of our inner and outer environments shape our biology and behavior and make us masters of our own lives.
THE INFLUENCE OF THE SPOKEN WORD One of the most impressive discoveries in the science of Epigenetics is that the spoken word can influence how our DNA instructs information to our cells, directly affecting our health, vibrancy and well-being. It is remarkable that our DNA expression can be reprogrammed by human speech. The scientific work of Dr. Masuru Emoto, author of The Hidden Messages in Water, reveals that every cell in our body is affected by the words we speak and the vibrational frequency they generate.
LANGUAGE AND WORD SCULPTING Every word we speak generates neurochemicals in our brain that direct energy, thoughts, and create experiences according to the pictures and feelings that go with the words. DNA receptors read this energy field in terms of frequencies and respond accordingly by communicating instructional behavioral functions to our cells. How you think, what you say, and your actions, determine how you perceive your experiences. By being conscious and proactive, you can choose to sculpt your words and sentences to a vibrational frequency that is aligned with Heart Consciousness. Word Sculpting uses words and language to create beautiful new realities and is a skill that can be learned and improved with practice. Word Sculpting can change our life's direction in a moment and propel us to new insights. The realization that our vibrational state of mind can be changed or transmuted through our choice of words, allows us to have a say over our destiny. Speaking from the Heart creates a direct high frequency path that bypasses the ego-mind and goes directly into our conscious behavior. By consciously choosing the most powerful words with higher uplifting frequencies, you create harmony, balance and well-being. Your experiences will be reflected in Joy and Enrichment. Sentences that contain the words no, can’t, shouldn’t, isn’t, doesn’t, but, don’t, never, won’t, not, wouldn’t, couldn’t, and won’t, can be restructured using positive, clear and supportive words that promote a frequency that enhances your well-
being. Pay attention to your thoughts, then word sculpt negative, confusing or common usage vocabulary with Conscious Usage language. This will encourage harmonious behaviors and positive responses in others. It will transform your life into one of fulfillment and gratitude. Choose words that create the picture of what you are communicating. Common Usage • Don’t mess up • No/Not • Don’t be late • No problem • I am not helpless • No one can fail Conscious Usage ✓ • Get it right • Zero/Other than • Please be home on time • It is my pleasure • I am powerful • Everyone will pass Practicing conscious choice is the key to unlocking our full manifestation power. Thinking about what we want is only half the equation. Actively changing our common usage language to conscious usage will achieve desired results. We think, speak, and write using words. Words are the building blocks of our lives. Language is undeniably a gift, and as the only species to have this tool available to us, we have a responsibility to use it consciously. I look forward to your questions or comments.

first Los Angeles World Series victory over the Chicago White Sox in 1959. Who can ever forget Kirk Gibson’s dramatic Game One-winning home run against the storied Oakland A’s that led to the 1988 world title. We have bathed in ‘Blue Waters’ and have enjoyed the thrilling roller coaster rides; the experiences are indelible. Inherent in this great history is the ownership role played by the O’Malley family from 1950 – 1998. Father Walter gained controlling interest of the team in 1950. He had previously served as the organization’s
legal counsel advising the pioneering Dodger President and GM, Branch Rickey. With strong legal, business and engineering skills, Walter became a prime mover in Major League Baseball. He continued the development of segregation-free Dodgertown in Vero Beach and aided in increasing black player representation on the Dodger roster by including Don Newcombe, Roy Campanella, Joe Black, Jim Gilliam, Maury Wills, and John Roseboro. Keep in mind this was years before Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s Montgomery bus boycott and more than a decade before the United States passed its first civil rights legislation. Walter made an unprecedented tenyear effort to remain in Brookyn and privately build a stadium to replace aging Ebbets Field. He then pioneered Major League Baseball’s expansion to
the West Coast; moving the Dodgers from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and privately building the revered Dodger Stadium. In 1970, his son, Peter, was named President of the Dodgers and Walter became Chairman of the Board. In 1979, upon the passing of the senior O’Malley, Peter and his sister, Terry O’Malley Seidler, inherited ownership of the organization. In 2008, Walter O’Malley was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. With a life-long knowledge of the game and its complexity, the succeeding O’Malleys successfully guided the fortunes of the organization. In 1998, when family ownership was no longer viable, they sold the team to the Fox Group. On Peter’s watch, the communityminded Dodgers won two World Series Championships (1981 and 1988), five National League Pennants, had
COMMUNITY the best National League team won/loss record, and set Major League Baseball attendance records. Additionally, three times (1984, 1993 and 1997), the franchise was named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America;” the only sports organization to be so honored. I spent 15 productive years with Peter and Terry as the Dodgers Vice President, Communications. So, whatever happened to Peter O’Malley? Well, he is alive and well in greater Los Angeles. After a lifetime of devotion to Major League Baseball, he continues his global involvement in national and international baseball projects. On the international front, the government of Japan has just awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. It is the highest honor bestowed on a nonJapanese citizen. The award is in recognition of O’Malley’s 60 years of contributions promoting friendly rela-
Two of Peter O’Malley’s historic player signings for the Dodgers – pioneer pitchers Chan Ho Park, right, in 1994 and Hideo Nomo, left, in 1995. The Dodger team has made three goodwill trips to Japan. In 1995, Peter signed Hideo Nomo, who became the first Japanese-born player to appear in the Major Leagues from Japan since Masanori Murakami pitched for the San Francisco Giants in 1964-65. National League Rookie of the Year Award as Nomomania ensued. His historic signing and success opened the door for more than 50 players from Japan to play Major League Baseball in the United States through 2014. Some of O’Malley’s other international involvements include China, South Korea, Ireland, Nicaragua, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the Olympic Games. Nationally, Peter is involved in baseball development on Little League, high school, college and professional levels. Of special note are his efforts to preserve and enhance Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. It was originally a Naval Air Training Station during World War II that the Dodgers converted into the first baseball
training site to integrate in the South, where major and minor league Dodger teams stayed, dined and trained together. From 1948-2008, it remained an East Coast, must visit, baseball Spring Training venue. Succeeding team owner, Frank McCourt, moved the Dodgers training facility from Vero Beach to Glendale, Arizona, resulting in Dodgertown’s closing. In 2011, Peter and his sister, Terry, feared that the complex would be shuttered for a second time, and stepped in to revitalize the 80 acre facility. They partnered with former Dodger star pitchers Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo. The four collaborated with Indian River County to save Dodgertown and create a year-round, multisport training and conference center that has been renamed Historic Dodgertown. On November 10, 2014, the campus was recognized as a Florida
Heritage Landmark. Peter is chairman of the all-inclusive facility featuring 10 playing fields for baseball, softball, football, soccer and lacrosse. Other amenities include 90 on-site villas, clubhouses, two full-size weight rooms, dining room, Stadium Club Lounge, competitionsize swimming pool, conference rooms, and the 6,500 seat Holman Stadium. Historic Dodgertown is the perfect location for tournaments, camps, schools, business conferences, and seminars, of which the O’Malleys are justifiably proud. You, too, can walk the paths of Dodger and other baseball greats; we’ll meet at the corner of Jackie Robinson Avenue and Tommy Lasorda Lane. Visit www.historic dodgertown.com or call 772-257-8557.

“ALWAYS KEEP A STURDY PAIR OF SHOES AT YOUR BEDSIDE AND IN THE CAR, WHERE YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE AN EMERGENCY KIT AVAILABLE THAT YOU CAN GRAB AND GO.” 52 /

HARDIE
UMMERTIME FOR MANY OF US IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MEANS FUN AT THE BEACH. BUT IT ALSO MEANS FIRE SEASON IS HERE. ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A DISASTER SUCH AS FIRE, FLOOD, EARTHQUAKE OR STORM?
Getting prepared doesn’t have to be a chore. Involve the whole family and make it fun. Let the kids select their favorite item(s), such as a toy, book, blanket, or food for the emergency kit. When children (and adults!) are prepared and know what to do, they are less likely to be overwhelmed when the disaster strikes. Following a major disaster, professional first responders who provide fire and medical services may not be able to fully meet the demand for services. Communications failures, road blockages, and the number of vic-
tims, may prevent people from accessing the emergency services they have come to expect at a moment's notice when 911 is called. People will need to rely on each other to meet immediate lifesaving and life-sustaining needs, particularly in isolated neighborhoods that may be cut off from the main roads for a period of time. At a recent Malibu Chamber of Commerce meeting, emergency preparedness was the main topic discussed. Brad Davis, Emergency Services Coordinator for the city of Malibu, recommended, "When it comes to natural disasters, you should prepare for the inevitable and plan for the worst whether at home, work, or in your car.”
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Here are a few tips to help you get prepared.
• Plastic bags and personal sanitation items
AT A MINIMUM, HAVE A BASIC EMERGENCY KIT THAT INCLUDES
• Dust mask
• Water: One gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days • Food: At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food • Manual canopener • Matches in a waterproof container • Blanket and/or sleeping bag • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and extra batteries • Flashlight with extra batteries • Whistle to signal for help
• First Aid Kit • Cell phone with chargers or solar charger • Extra cash • Local maps
Consider the needs of all family members and customize your kit with additional supplies such as prescription medications, infant formula or pet food.
In any emergency a family member or you yourself may suffer an injury. If you have basic first aid supplies you are better prepared to help your loved ones when they are hurt. Knowing how to treat minor injuries can make a difference in an emergency. You may consider taking a first aid class, but simply having a First Aid Kit can help you stop bleeding, prevent infection and assist in decontamination. Always keep a sturdy pair of shoes at your bedside and in the car, where you should also have an emergency kit available that you can grab and go. Remember to check your kit twice a year to ensure that goods have not expired and that food is still safe to eat. (Tip: a good way to remember to check your kit every 6 months is to check it in spring and fall when you change your clocks between standard and daylight savings time).

object, you gain an experience. And the flow of experiences is life. One class of thinkers worked upon the object, world, to provide humanity with greater peace and happiness. They were the scientists. Science has made a colossal contribution for human welfare. It has developed the world to near perfection, with press-button comforts. Nevertheless, people are not as happy as they should be. In a perfected world there seems to be only worry and anxiety, suffering and sorrow everywhere. That is a paradox. Another class of thinkers investigated the cause of the paradox. They were the ancient sages living in the Himalayan ranges. These great philosophers analysed the anatomy of an experience. And discovered

means knowledge, anta means end. The knowledge of your real Self. The Self within is supreme. Presently obscured by your body, mind and intellect. You are aware of the body, mind and intellect but not your real Self. Vedanta helps you unfold your Self. Discover the true nature of your inherent Being. Your real Being is divine. The Abode of absolute peace and bliss. Humanity is unaware of the intrinsic wealth within oneself. People seek wealth and enjoyment in the external world. They are governed universally by two motivations. To acquire wealth and to enjoy what is acquired. Thus the life of human beings is propelled by these two forces. Few realize that there can be no satiation or fulfilment through acquisition or enjoyment through external pursuits. Life is defined in Sanskrit as anubhava dhara, stream of experiences. As long as experiences flow there is life. When the flow ceases life is extinct. An experience is therefore a unit of life. Constituted of two factors. Subject and object. The individual, you, is the subject. The world, the object. When you contact the world, subject meets

that the subject, the individual, was unattended, neglected to a point of fault. While the world was well taken care of by science. Consequently, the unprepared individual lived in stress and strain in a world of plenty and prosperity. The sages thus focused their attention on the subject, the individual. And gave out the sublime philosophy of Vedanta. The knowledge designed to rehabilitate the individual to perfection. Subjective development prepares the individual to meet the challenges of the objective world. Human beings alone are faced with the dilemma of choosing their action. They need to exercise their choice of action every moment of their life. All other creatures have a computerized, pre-set programme of action. They do not have the problem of choosing their action. A tiger cannot become a vegetarian. Nor a cow become a meat-eater. They are constrained to follow a course of action to suit their particular nature. Vedanta equips you with the knowledge to make the right choice of action. Also provides you with the technique of action. A technique you can apply in your home, in your business, in society, everywhere. It gives you a practical way of life to satisfy your material and spiritual needs. Following that course you enjoy prosperity with peace of mind.

Simplify the Work You Choose Albert Einstein said, "Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler." Simplification - Thank you, Einstein! It's human nature to be drawn to the complex. Complicated work makes us feel smarter and more valuable. But when you analyze efficient and effective people, you find that they consistently simplify tasks. We can choose to complicate or simplify projects regardless of our profession. Consider the following comparison of two projects, one complex, the other simple.
MARTINEZ
“THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOOD BUSINESS AND A BAD ONE IS THAT A GOOD BUSINESS THROWS UP ONE EASY DECISION AFTER ANOTHER AND A BAD ONE GIVES YOU HORRIBLE CHOICES.”
Doesn't the second project seem less overwhelming? AVOID INVESTMENTS THAT CAN'T BE SIMPLIFIED If the project seems too complicated, it probably is. If there are too many questions that you can't answer, move on to what’s next. Remember, there is an opportunity cost to every project. If you work on a project that takes 15 years to complete, what else are you missing? Warren Buffet says, "The difference between a good business and a bad one is that a good business throws up one easy decision after another and a bad one gives you horrible choices." The same applies to commercial real estate projects. If you begin to feel that the work is like climbing Mt. Everest without oxygen, then come down off the mountain.
It would be a mistake to choose one of the above projects based solely on potential profit. In the first example, the project has a higher profit potential, but that is just one factor to consider. Things that complicate the deal are: • Having to analyze two different property types (retail & office) • Much larger financing exposure • Starting with raw land and taking on regulatory risk in two counties • Leasing agents required that specialize in both retail and office leases
In contrast, the second example is a much more streamlined choice: • High unit count provides diversification from market risk • Tenant leases are shorter and less complicated • The project is already approved by the agencies • Excellent property management experts manage this property type • Construction is a fraction of what a larger mixed use project would cost
IT SHOULD BE SIMPLE ENOUGH TO BE PASSIVE With anything, you must plan for the worst-case scenario. In the world of commercial real estate, if you were planning to stabilize a project and sell it, then the worst case scenario would be that the market turns and it operates as a buy and hold property. So, at the very beginning of your analysis, you must think about exit strategies. If you had to choose a backup option, could you still make it a passive investment? Remember, you are protecting your time here. If you buy a restaurant or an auto repair shop and things don't work out as planned, those are very difficult businesses to make passive. On the flip side, if you have a mini-storage complex with a solid property management company to run it, then you are leveraging your time. All you have to do is know the numbers (go over them with your CPA) and manage the property managers. In one of these you will be working 60+ hours a week and be very active in the business, and in the other you will work a few hours a month because all of your time was spent at the beginning of the project, not the end. All projects – whether simple or complicated – can eventually be brought to a successful close. The question is: At what cost? Why not choose simplicity and win every time?

Summertime ... and the Accidents Happen Written by DAVID
I
OLAN
THINK EVERY ADULT, REGARD LESS OF AGE, STILL FEELS THE EXCITEMENT THAT THE COMING OF SUMMER IGNITED IN THEIR HEART WHEN THEY WERE A CHILD AND THE BELL RANG ON THAT LAST DAY OF SCHOOL OF THE YEAR. IT’S A TIME
WHEN RULES ARE RELAXED AND WE’RE PULLED AWAY FROM OUR COMPUTERS AND OFFICES FOR TRIPS, SOCIAL EVENTS, AND TO SWIM, BIKE, BOAT, PADDLE, HIKE, SURF, AND CAMP. Masked behind the idyllic days of summer is the higher risk of accidents. Like the proverbial snake in the garden, accidents hide until they strike, making you either the victim or the perpetrator. Neither position is a good one. Both can cost you dearly.
Motor Vehicle Accidents During the summer there are more cars, bicycles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and children on the roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Recording System reports that in California there are nearly twice as many car accident deaths during the summer months than the rest of the year combined. There also are more teen drivers out on the road during the summer, making the 101 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day the deadliest for people under the age of 20. Teenagers have been responsible for almost 50% more drunk driving accidents in the summer months than during the rest of the year (Washington Regional Alcohol Program). Protect yourself from being the victim or the cause of a motor vehicle accident. Leave yourself more time to go from place to place. Drive defensively and don’t be as concerned about being “right” as you are with being “safe.” And, of course, don’t participate in distracted driving or driving under the influence. Swimming Pools According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in five people who die from drowning are children ages 14 and younger. Most children ages 1 – 4 who drown do so in home swimming pools.
For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency room care for nonfatal submersion injuries. This could mean long-term disabilities or even the loss of basic functions. Drowning can happen anywhere, whether a lifeguard is present or not. Teens and adults increase their risk for drowning if they’ve been drinking. As a homeowner, you can be held responsible for the injuries or death of someone who drowns or who suffers an injury in your swimming pool. Be sure to check that all filters and other parts of the pool are in good working order. Make sure the pool is fenced so young children cannot gain access. The CDC says that a four-sided isolation fence separating the pool area from the house and yard reduces the risk of drowning 83% compared to a three-sided property-line fence.
Amusement Parks Few of us think of the possibility of an accident at an amusement park (unless it’s while we’re experiencing total terror as the roller coaster plunges 115 feet), but they do happen, and sometimes they’re deadly. It wasn’t until a particularly horrendous accident at Disneyland in 1998 caused by poor maintenance, product liability, and inadequate training of staff that the State of California legislated that all theme park rides and portable rides (those that travel from place to place), were to be independently inspected by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). If you have an accident at any amusement park, do not sign anything, and seek medical assistance at an emergency room immediately.
Accidents can happen anywhere and at any time. Be alert and be smart, and you can make this a summer to remember for its joy rather than for its tragedy.

T
O THIS DAY, THE BHOPAL GAS DISASTER OF 1984 IS CONSIDERED THE WORLD'S DEADLIEST INDUSTRIAL DISASTER EVER. DEATH TOLL NUMBERS RANGE FROM 4,000 TO 12,000. OVER 500,000 PEOPLE SUFFERED TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT INJURIES AND TODAY AN ESTIMATED 120,000 TO 150,000 SURVIVORS STILL STRUGGLE WITH SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS INCLUDING NERVE DAMAGE, GROWTH PROBLEMS, GYNECOLOGICAL DISORDERS, RESPIRATORY ISSUES, BIRTH DEFECTS, AND ELEVATED RATES OF CANCER AND TUBERCULOSIS. THE GROUND AND WATER IN THE AREA REMAIN POISONED WITH TOXIC CHEMICALS.
Longtime Malibu resident and well-known activist Martin Sheen stars in the film Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain. He was present at the recent screening and discussion held at the Screening Room in Hollywood for the Seventh Annual Cinema Series of Kat Kramer’s Films That Change The World. Sheen introduced the keynote speaker of the evening, Tim Edwards, Executive Trustee of Bhopal Medical Appeal by saying, “Arriving in the city of Bhopal in 1999 following a solo cycle ride from the United Kingdom, Tim found that the privilege of a firstworld upbringing gave him the skills needed to advocate for the people he met in Bhopal. Tim has advocated on behalf of Bhopal, advising on the social, legal, environmental and medical complexities of Union Carbide’s disaster, ever since. He was a founding trustee of the Bhopal Medical Appeal, and has been its managing trustee for the last four years. Over this time, the two clinics supported by the Appeal in Bhopal, Sambhayna and Chingari, have helped relieve the suffering of thousands of gas and toxic water-affected men, women and children. They are the only places in Bhopal where victims of Union Carbide’s gas and water poisoning can receive medical care free of cost.”

Sheen, who has long been a champion of films with important messages, was approached by Terrance Sweeney, the executive producer of Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain. Once Sheen read the script he immediately agreed to do the film and was signed onto the project playing the role of Warren Anderson, the head of Union Carbide in Bhopal, India at the time of the disaster. Most of the film was shot in India. Sheen said this was not his first time in India. He has enjoyed several visits to India and feels that he has learned a great deal from the people and culture there. Kat Kramer, Founder and Producer of Kat Kramer’s Films That Change The World, a Cinema Series showcasing motion pictures that raise awareness about important social issues, was also on-hand and said, “This kick-off event of my Seventh Annual Cinema Series was a fundraiser for Bhopal Medical Appeal, which provides medical assis-
tance to ill survivors still dealing with serious health issues as a result of the world’s worst industrial disaster over 30 years ago which happened at Union Carbide in Bhopal, India in 1984. We raised several thousand dollars at the event and more funding will be forthcoming in the next several weeks as a result of live streaming of the event worldwide via Global Content Media, LLC.”

young child I didn’t understand why my mother was never available for me. She was absent most of my life because either she was in the hospital getting treatment, or she was too sick and in pain to take care of me.
Sometimes, when she did feel better, she went out with her friends to forget about the horrible days or weeks she had just suffered. As a result, I felt ignored and thought my mom didn’t love me. I got into trouble because I had no adult supervision and no one to show me the right way. No one explained to me what was wrong with my mother or me. I had no one to guide me or counsel me. I
simply thought my mother did not love me. Years later, I met and became friends with Rochelle Decosta who also suffers from the same disease as my mom. I learned from Rochelle that Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is not something to be ashamed of. It’s not a problem contracted by doing something wrong. Sickle cell anemia is an inherited disorder of the

I don’t wish that upon any child, and especially not on the children of a parent suffering with Sickle Cell Disease.
Because of my mother’s ongoing struggle with this horrible and painful disease, I’ve learned a lot about Sickle Cell Disease. All too often, a child will lose their parent to an early death from SCD. I understand from personal experience that the children in these families suffer too, and need help. They need care and guidance. Thanks to the support from people like Rochelle, Veera at Malibu Chronicle and Martin Dunkerton at LovEarth, my mother and I now talk often and enjoy a loving relationship. I feel stronger. I want to use my awareness and experience to become a reliable source of information and an empowering resource for other kids with parents suffering SCD so they don’t feel confused, alone or neglected. I want them to have a better childhood than mine. LovEarth and Martin Dunkerton have taken me under their wing as I work on establishing Sickle Kids Care foundation to achieve these goals.

For this year’s theme: “Do two things each day: Learn something, and make someone else laugh,” the students kept a journal for two weeks. Then, in class, they wrote about their experiences. The 18 who came in first and second read their essays to a delighted audience of a hundred family members, educators, and members at the Malibu Woman’s Club Annual Scholarship Luncheon.

It’s Good to Be a Shark Written by LEN

HERE’S A NEW BUZZ SWIRLING AROUND MALIBU ABOUT THE EXCITING CHANGES IN THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROGRAM. Terry Shorten is the new head football coach at Malibu High School. Shorten’s
football coaching resume and football background will certainly shake up the shoreline along the Pacific Coast Highway. Terry Shorten brings a wealth of experience and proven success. He was formerly the head football coach at Oak Park High School from 2008 – 2013. Shorten culminated his time at Oak Park (OP) in 2013 with a historic season in which the Eagles went 11-2 and advanced to the CIF Northwest semifinals. They won the TriValley league (un-defeated) and owned a school record 11game winning streak, breaking every offensive record (10 records) in the history of Oak Park football. Under Shorten’s leadership, Oak Park football
teams reached the CIF playoffs each of his 6 years as OP head coach. Malibu High School gains a coach who is enthusiastic, goal oriented, disciplined, and extremely selfmotivated. Shorten’s number one goal is to build confidence, belief, and pride

in the Malibu community, starting with his current players, then the parents and administration. Helping to develop and support the Malibu Sharks’ youth football program will also be a priority for Shorten. Shorten’s staff includes members of his previous coach-
ing staff at Oak Park, adding experience and energy to the Shark coaching staff. Shorten and his coaching staff believe in getting kids exposure at the college level. They were successful placing his players from Oak Park at Arizona, Fresno State, Air Force, Brown, Penn,

With Terry Shorten and returning players such as Indiana Alpine, Trevor Simonian, Brewster Keaton, Chase Kapler, Logan Moore, Jesse Nikora, and Chris Taras, Friday nights at the Shark Tank should be really fun and exciting! Get your seats early this year. Malibu football is back on the map! “It’s good to be a Shark”.

LEARNING TO
L.I.V.E. Written by VEERA
MAHAJAN
Loving yourself is the simplest recipe that makes you… Insist on Freedom. The only way to be truly free is by gaining… Victory over victim syndrome… once you believe you are not a victim, you are… Empowered to be anything you want!
L
EARNING TO LIVE FOR OURSELVES IS SOMETIMES SEEN AS SELFISH BY MOST TRADITIONAL STANDARDS, BUT REMEMBER, DOING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR US IS NOT SELFISH, IT IS MAKING SURE WE CAN TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES, NOT JUST OTHERS, AND IT IS IMPORTANTLY CALLED SELF-CARE. Self-care is vital and certainly not wrong. We have to learn to care for ourselves enough and feel good about ourselves enough that despite natural cravings we can actually exist without someone else's approval and therefore enable ourselves to do what is best for us. Don’t get me wrong like anyone else I like to have a special someone in my life who cares for me and wants to be nice to me, but it should not be a necessity. I have learned from many experiences in my existence, and have come to understand, that it is my job to be nice to myself, to take care of me, and accept self-love. In fact, only if I love myself will I be so full of love that I can then love all others freely and selflessly.
So even though we all must remember to take care of ourselves, even in, and especially in, difficult and sad times - it is natural and normal to reach out for the emotional warmth offered by others. But we must remind ourselves also to reach for the strength within, even during the greatest losses of loved ones. And as difficult as that is, try to remind yourself that just like all good times, all difficult times also do pass. But it is important to grieve and release our emotions so that we may heal and allow ‘Time,’ the best healer, do it’s magic. During that time, it is important for us to let others in, and allow people to express their caring for us and embrace us with their empathy, in whatever way they know to express it. It takes nothing away from our being self-sufficient or self-reliant, as we may be in our normal days. In the time of loss and sadness, it is okay to share our feelings with family and friends, and allow them to console or make us feel better and less alone. It is always okay to accept help and be loved and be taken care of. It does not negate our ability to care for others or ourselves. It is good to love the people in our lives as it is also good to let the people in our lives love us. So, although my life's message is to learn to love oneself first, please do not make the mistake of pushing people away by shutting them out when they want to help and care for you. Giving love to yourself and, thereby, enabling yourself to give love to others is a blessing. But you can't just give: Love is about giving and receiving. Sharing of love helps love grow! Try it!
