Uvod
ANIMANIMA BROJ 11: SVI SMO TU! Animacija je sveprisutna slikovna forma modernog doba, reći će poznati teoretičar i estetičar Pol Vels. I dodaće: animacija je svuda oko nas. Animanima nas svaki put podseća na to. I u svom 11. izdanju, glavni takmičarski program sa svojih četrdesetak filmova autora iz 24 zemlje ponudiće iskristalisani presek savremene svetske scene.

Specijalni program koji će obeležiti ovogodišnju Animanimu zasigurno je Od crtkarija do piksela: Više od jednog veka španske animacije. Osam projekcija, od najranijih radova, Zlatnog pauka iz 1908. godine Segunda de Ćomona, do savremenih autora, poput Đosija Malisa i njegovog Bendito Machine. Kustoskinja ovog programa kog je prošlog septembra videla i publika u Muzeju modernih umetnosti u Njujorku (MoMA), Karolina Lopes Kabalero iz Barselone, predstaviće svoj značajni projekat i predvoditi Animanimin međunarodni žiri. Iz Kanade nam stiže Stiven Vološin, znalac ručnih i analognih filmskih tehnika, autor brojnih filmova nastalih direktnim intervencijama na filmskoj traci. Master klas i radionica ovog autora koji već godinama daje svoj osoben ritam svetskoj nezavisnoj sceni su nešto što ne smete propustiti. Po prvi put na Animanimi predstavljamo specijalni program posvećen savremenoj animaciji Grčke, a u okviru programa Škola u gostima, sa velikim zadovoljstvom prikazaćemo filmove talentovanih diplomaca najprestižnije izraelske umetničke akademije Besalel iz Jerusalima. Animanima ove godine u programu Portret animatora odaje počast italijanskom doajenu za koga je Dajana Dizni rekla da je legenda poput njenog oca, Brunu Bocetu. Osim izbora iz bogatog opusa, gledaćemo i dokumentarni film Marka Bonfantija o ovom poznatom evropskom i svetskom animatoru, Bozzetto non troppo. Dugometražni program, prava poslastica, filmovi Psihonauti, zaboravljena deca Španaca Alberta Vaskeza i Pedra Rivera, remek-delo Mihaela Dudoka de Vita Crvena kornjača, kao i predivni Moj život kao tikvica, za najmlađe gledaoce. Za tu novu, buduću vernu publiku pripremili smo i Grozomorne rime, animirani film iz dva dela londonskog studija Magic Light Pictures, nastao po istoimenoj knjizi bajki omiljenog pisca Roalda Dala. Neizostavno, tu su i radionice animacije, izložbe, kao i koncert, ovog puta nešto zaista posebno za ljubitelje modernog džeza. Ako ste prethodnih deset godina bili stalni posetilac Animanimih programa, verujemo da će vas i 11. festivalsko izdanje jednako motivisati i privući animiranim ostvarenjima zbog kojih Animanimini septembarski dani ostaju uvek poseban datum u toku godine. Ako umetnost animiranog filma tek otkrivate, s radoznalošću i zadivljenošću nekoga pred kim se otvaraju neobični svetovi, Animanima je pravo mesto za vas. Dakle, svi smo tu!

ANIMANIMA No 11: WE’RE ALL HERE! Animation is an omnipresent pictorial form of the modern time, says the distinguished theorist Paul Wells, adding that animation is everywhere around us. Of this fact we are constantly reminded by Animanima. In its 11th edition, the main competition programme and its forty-or-so films by authors from 24 countries are bound to offer a crystal-clear cross-section of the contemporary global scene. The special programme which will mark this year’s edition of Animanima will no doubt be From doodles to pixels: over a century of Spanish animation. With its eight collections, from the earliest works such as L’Araignée d’or (Golden Spider) from 1908, a film by Segundo de Chomon, to the contemporary artists such as Jossie Malis and his Bendito Machine. The curator of this programme, which was seen last September by the audience in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), Carolina López Caballero from Barcelona, will present her major project and also be a head of the International Jury of the Animanima festival. Steven Woloshen, coming from Canada, is the expert of manual and analogue film techniques, author of numerous films made through a direct impact on the film stock. The master-class and the workshop held by this author, who for many years now has contributed his unique rhythm to the global independent scene, are a must-see for everyone. For the first time at Animanima, we have a pleasure of presenting the special programme dedicated to the contemporary animation of Greece, while our Visiting School programme will present us with an opportunity to see films by talented graduates of the most prestigious Israeli art school – the Bezalel Academy from Jerusalem. In this year’s Portrait of an Animator, Animanima honours the Italian doyen Bruno Bozzetto, whose legendary status was acknowledged by Diana Disney, who compared him to her father. In addition to selected pieces from his rich opus, we will have an opportunity to see Bozzetto non troppo a Marco Bonfanti’s documentary about this European and world famous animator. The programme of feature films is a real treat, including works such as Psychonauts, the Forgotten Children by the Spanish authors Alberto Vázquez and Pedro Rivero, a master-piece of Michael Dudok de Wit, The Red Turtle, as well as the beautiful My Life as a Zucchini, for the youngest viewers. For these future Animanima loyal audience, we have also prepared Revolting Rhymes, animated film by the London-based Magic Light Pictures studio, inspired by the fairy tale of the same title, written by children’s favourite writer, Roald Dahl. And this is not all, there are the inevitable animation workshops, exhibitions and the concert – this time something really special for the lovers of modern jazz. If you are one of our regular visitors who have come to Animanima for the past ten years, we believe that our 11th edition will be equally motivating, offering attractive animated releases which make the September days of Animanima a truly special event of the year. If you happen to be making your first steps in the world of animation, spurred by the curiosity to explore wonderful new worlds, Animanima is the right place. So, we’re all here!

Karolina je direktor Animac LLeida, međunarodne smotre animacije u Kataloniji, i bioskopa Xcèntric u Centra za savremenu kulturu u Barseloni (CCCB). Završila je studije slikarstva na Univerzitetu u Barseloni, a studije animacije na koledžu Vest Sari u Engleskoj. Osnovala je 1993. Anima't, odeljak za animaciju festivala Sitges u Kataloniji. Radila je za MTV u Majamiju, izrađivala sopstvene kratke animirane filmove i režirala reklame. Uređivala je filmski program Muzeja savremene umetnosti u Barseloni i Gugenhajm muzeja u Bilbau. Bila je kustos izložbe Metamorphosis, the Fantastic Visions of Starewitch, Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers, u produkciji CCCB i La Casa Encendida (Madrid), i filmskog serijala Od crtkarija do piksela: više od jednog veka španske animacije (uključujući i DVD izdanje), prikazanog na festivalu u Ansiju (Francuska) i u Muzeju moderne umetnosti (MoMA) u Njujorku. Carolina is director of Animac LLeida, the International Animation Show of Catalonia, and Xcèntric, the cinema of Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB). She graduated Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and animation at West Surrey College in England. In 1993 she created Anima’t, the animation section of the Sitges film festival of Catalonia. She has worked for MTV in Miami, produced her own shorts and directed commercials. She has programmed film content for Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona and Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Carolina has curated an exhibition Metamorphosis, the Fantastic Visions of Starewitch, Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers produced by CCCB and La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and the film series From Doodles to Pixels. Over a Hundred Years of Spanish Animation (also the DVD-book edition) screened at the Annecy Festival (France) and MoMA (NY, USA).

Tal Gadon (1973) je šef katedre za animaciju na Odseku za ekranske umetnosti akademije Besalel u Jerusalemu, Izrael. Tal Gadon je jedan od najpoznatijih izaelskih reditelja animacije i animatora. Radeći u tehnikama tradicionalne i cut-out animacije, Tal je učestvovao u izradi poznatih animiranih filmova poput Valcer sa Baširom (Waltz with Bashir) kao glavni animator, Kongres (The Congress), i mnogim drugim animiranim serijama, kratkim animiranim filmovima i reklamama. Kao viši predavač na akademiji Besalel, Tal je podučavao generacije studenata, od sticanja osnova u samostalnoj animaciji, do diplomskih radova.
Novinar u oblasti animiranog filma, nezavisni autor i predavač. Nakon studija klasične filozofije u Grčkoj i Velikoj Britaniji, završio je postdiplomske studije u oblasti filmskog žurnalizma na univerzitetu u Glazgovu, Škotska. U sklopu svog istraživačkog rada objavljivao je stručne i naučne radove o filmu i animaciji. Od 2011. godine, Vasilis je glavni urednik portala Zippy Frames posvećenog evropskoj i nezavisnoj aimaciji. Pored angažovanja na mestu umetničkog direktora festivala animacije Be there! na Krfu (6. izdanje: april 2017.), nastupao je kao član žirija na mnogim međunarodnim fetivalima animacije i obavlja funkciju grčkog ambasadora za Evropske nagrade za animaciju. Trenuto završava doktorski rad na temu savremene evropske dugometražne animacije (Univerzitet Ionian, Grčka) i radi na produkciji novog kratkog animiranog filma The Sea-Tranced Isle rediteljke Efi Papa.
Tal Gadon (born 1973) is a Head of animation studies at the screen-based arts department, Bezalal academy Jerusalem, Israel. Tal Gadon is a leading Israeli animation director and animator. Focusing in traditional and cut-out animation, Tal had taken part in famous animation films such as Waltz with Bashir (lead animator), The congress, and in many other animation series, shorts and commercials. As a senior lecturer at the Bezalel academy, Tal had tutored generations of students, from the medium’s fundamentals to their graduation films.
Animation journalist, professional and scholar. His classical and philosophical studies in Greece and UK were supplemented by a Postgraduate Certificate in Film Journalism from University of Glasgow (UK). His research activities include scholarly articles about film and animation. Since 2011, he has been the Head editor of Zippy Frames, an animation portal on European and independent animation. He is the artistic director of Be there! Corfu Animation Festival (6th edition: April 2017), and has served as jury member in many international animation festival. He serves as the Greek Ambassador at the European Animation Awards, and also currently writing his PhD thesis on contemporary European feature animation (Ionian University, Greece). He is producing the upcoming animated short The Sea-Tranced Isle (directed by Effie Pappa).

Olga Bobrovska (rođena 1987. godine) je na doktorskim studijama u oblasti filmskih studija na Jagelonskom univerzitetu u Krakovu, sa specijalizacijom u oblasti klasičnog kineskog animiranog filma. Pored toga, Olga je autor akademskih radova na temu poljske i kineske animacije i angažovana je kao direktor StopTrik International Film Festival (Slovenija/Poljska), festivala posevećenog stop motion animaciji, kustos programa animacije koji se prezentuju na festivalima u Poljskoj, Sloveniji i Hrvatskoj, a isto tako i saradnik festivala Animateka (Ljubljana) i Etiuda&Anima (Krakov). Godine 2016. bila je jedan od uredniika monografije Opsesija. Perverzija. Pobuna. Uvrnuti snovi animacije Centralne Evrope. Olga Bobrowska was born in 1987. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Film Studies at Jagiellonian University, Kraków, specialized in classic Chinese animated film and an author of academic articles on the subjects of Polish and Chinese animation. She is the festival director of StopTrik International Film Festival (Slovenia/Poland), a festival dedicated to stop motion animation, the curator of animation programmes presented at festivals in Poland, Slovenia and Croatia and a collaborator of the festivals Animateka (Ljubljana) and Etiuda&Anima (Kraków). In 2016 she co-edited the monograph Obsession Perversion Rebellion. Twisted Dreams of Central European Animation.

Timon radi kao animator i pedagog. Akademsko znanje animacije unapredio je u francuskoj školi za režiju animacije La Poudriere. Njegov studentski rad, kratki animirani film Work (u saradnji sa Urbanom Breznikom), videla je publika na više od 30 festivala širom sveta, dok se Weasel, njegov debitantski animirani film, upravo prikazuje na međunarodnoj sceni. Tokom studija, izradio je veliki broj animiranih filmova i učestvovao u kao animator u izradi drugih. Pored toga, autor je diplomskog rada na temu dečje percepcije filmskog jezika i saradnik na izradi prvog priručnika za animaciju za škole i obdaništa. Trenutno predaje 2D animaciju na Umetničkoj akademiji u Novoj Gorici, dok je od 2011. godine održao veliki broj radionica, u ukupnom trajanju od gotovo 20 sedmica.
Rođen u Rumi, 1980. godine. Diplomirao arheologiju na Filozofskom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu. Zajedno sa Draganom Cakićem, osnovao je 2005. godine Nezavisni filmski centar Vorki Tim, u znak sećanja na čuvenog filmskog umetnika Slavka Vorkapića. Od 2009. uređuje i organizuje programe Akademskog filmskog centra Doma kulture „Studentski grad“ u Beogradu. Zadužen je za produkciju i organizaciju Evropskog festivala animiranog filma Balkanima i festivala Alternative Film/Video. Autor je kratkih igranih, eksperimentalnih i dokumentarnih filmova.
Timon works in animation and pedagogy. He upgraded his academic knowledge at animation direction school in France La Poudriere. His student animated short Work (with Urban Breznik) circled the world in more than 30 festivals, his debutant short film Weasel is circling the world now. During his studies, he created many animated shorts and animated many others, wrote a degree on children’s comprehension of film language, and cooperated on creation of the first manual on animation for schools and kindergardens. Currently he teaches 2d animation at the Academy of art in Nova Gorica, and since 2011 mentored almost 20 week-long animation workshops.
Born in Ruma, Serbia in 1980. Graduated Archaeology at Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. In 2005, together with Dragan Cakic, established Independent Film Center “Vorky Team”, dedicated to the memory of a famous film artist Slavko Vorkapich. Since 2009 works as a program director and organizer at the Academic Film Center (AFC) of Cultural Center “Studentski grad” in Belgrade. In charge of production and organization of European Animated Film Festival Balkanima and Alternative Film/Video Festival. Author of short fiction, experimental and documentary films.

Obeležavajući sto godina od smrti Džeka Londona, autor Fx Goby je adaptirao “Napraviti vatru”, poznatu priču američkog pisca, u animirani film, donoseći tragičnu pripovest o čoveku i njegovom psu koji pokušavaju da prežive u divljoj prirodi Jukona.
Posmatračko istraživanje rutine, monotonije, pažnje i rasejanosti. Hoćemo li nastaviti da dopuštamo događajima da prolaze pored nas neometano, ili ćemo odlučiti da prekinemo ciklus?
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jack London’s death, filmmaker Fx Goby adapts “To Build a Fire”, the famous novel of the American author in an animated short telling the tragic tale of a man and his dog trying to survive in the hostile nature of the Yukon Territory.
An observational exploration of routine, monotony, attention and distraction. Will we continue to let events pass us by uncontested, or will we decide to break the cycle?

Bio dvaput jedan kralj Twice Upon a Time
Dobro došli u Čandranov kafe, koji vode Meri i njen muž Čandran... na Mesecu.
Priča o kralju koji ima podvojenu ličnosti i živi u podvojenom vremenu. Jedna polovina predstavlja Kralja Pesnika, poetičnog vođu, dok druga pripada Kralju Ratniku, neustrašivom borcu. Oni dele istu svest, ali očajnički pokušavaju da se reše jedan drugoga. Dualna prirodi stvari i kraljeva i o tome kako su nastale karte.

A fairy tale about a king with split personality, split time and a split screen. One half of the King represents a crude but fearless warrior, while the other half of his is a poet of graceful manners. They share their conscience, but desperately want to get rid of each other. Praznina The Gap
U uglu parka nalazi se prostor sa nula gravitacijom, zvani “rupa”. Jednog dana Hivu poziva Touko, njena prijateljica iz detinjstva da dođe do “rupe”. Kada su bile deca, njihov odnos je bio dobar, ali sada, one se udaljavaju jedna od druge.
Čovek je kockasta figura koja ispravlja sve grbe i neravnine da bi svoj pusti svet održao ravnim. Njegovo sučeljavanje sa crvenom lopticom koja obožava da pravi gigantske rupe, poremetiće njegov ideal savršeno ispravnog sveta.
The corner of the park, there is a space of zero gravity, called the “hole”. One day, Hiwa is called before the “hole” by Touko who is childhood friend. When they were children, their relationship was good, but now, distance is born between them.
Man is a cubical shaped figure who rectifies all bumps and humps in order to keep his desolate world flat. His confrontation with a little red ball, that loves to create gigantic holes, messes up his ideal of a perfect straight world.

Lisac Manivald puni 33 godine. Previše obrazovan, nezaposlen i generalno nezainteresovan, on živi sa svojom dominantnom, penzionisanom majkom. To je lagodan život, ali ne i dobar...
Jazavac leži nepokretan na lokalnom drumu. Policijska patrola prilazi telu u mraku. Teško je reći da je mrtav, možda pre – mrtav pijan. Kada pokušaju da ga odvuku s puta, jazavac se probudi i stvari krenu u neočekivanom smeru.
Manivald, a fox, is turning 33. Overeducated, unemployed and generally uninspired, he lives with his overbearing, retired mother. It is an easy life, but not a good one...
A badger lies motionless on a local road. A police patrol approaches the body in the dark. They soon realise that the animal is not dead; the badger is dead drunk! When the police attempt to drag the creature off the road, he wakes up and things take a strange turn.

In a deserted rich house, a couple of amphibians explore their surroundings and follow their primal instincts.

U drevnoj Kini, po završetku jednog surovog rata, grad je obnovljen. Mladi čarobnjak se vraća u grad, i ulazi u Guan Gon hram, koji je bio razrušen. Prošlost se pojavljuje u njegovom pogledu.
Crvenkapica je na putu prema bakinoj šumskoj kolibi. Skreće sa staze i ulazi u zgradu napuštene fabrike. U praznom betonskom lavirintu otkriva crni zid pokriven svežim grafitom, velikim belim cvetom. Izlazi iz fabrike, nastavlja put, ulazi u mračnu šumu. Zaustavlja je Vuk...

Nevoljno postavši uzbunjivač u slučaju napada otrovnim gasovima, jedan seoski pacov priča o svom svakodnevnom životu u rovovima Velikog rata.
U školskom hodniku devojka gubi svest pred Alfonsom. On glupavo pokušava da je poljubi, kada nailazi Marko koji mu se ruga. Šest meseci kasnije, leto je, i Alfons je uzbuđen zbog ideje da avgust provede sam, bez svog cimera.

In a school corridor, Alphonse catches up with a girl who suddenly faints in front of him. He tries to kiss her stupidly, but Marco shows up and makes a fool out of him. 6 months later, it’s summer. Alphonse is excited at the idea of spending the month of August alone, without his roommate.

Pun kompleksa zbog svoje veličine, div prestaje da jede prestravljen idejom otkrivanja svoje zastrašujuće prirode čime bi ugrozio svoje mesto u društvu. Tokom poslovnog ručka, njegova prava priroda biće stavljena na probu.
Majka i sin neprestano menjaju uloge: čas je majka odrasla, čas sin, koji se stara o svojoj iznenadnoj majci-detetu. Ovo deluje sve dok dečak ne odluči da pobegne ispod suknje previše zaštitničke majke i započne samostalan život.
Full of complexes because of his size, a giant holds on eating terrified at the idea of revealing his ogresque self and so compromising his place in the society. During a business banquet, his true nature will be put to the test.
Mother and son are changing places and roles constantly: once, the mother is an adult, sometimes son matures and takes care of suddenly childish mother. The arrangement works fine, until the boy decides to escape from under the skirt of the overprotective mother and start an independent life.

A child has to leave its cozy hut to collect wood for the fire that went out. Growing into a teenager, he encounters a singular tree that he wants to turn into fire wood. He tears the tree out and thus becomes a man who is drawn to the woods that emerge around him.

Od crtkarija do piksela: Više od jednog veka španske animacije predstavlja izraz želje da se oživi deo jedne malo poznate istorije – istorije španskog animiranog filma. Iako su filmovi kao što su Ćiko i Rita (Havijer Mariskal, Fernando Trueba, Tono Erando, 2010), Avanture Tadea Džonsa (Enrike Gato, 2012) ili Posednut (Sam, 2014) obezbedili španskoj animaciji mesto na karti sveta, oni su samo vrh ledenog brega talenta i godina predanog rada na stvaranju kako umetnosti, tako i čitave industrije, proces koji se često poprimao sasvim neverovatne obrte. Ova zaokružena celina predstavlja rezultat istraživanja, pregleda i otkrića istorijskih materijala, ostvarenog kroz dijalog sa radovima iz savremenog doba. Projekat Od crtkarija do piksela realizovan je u koprodukciji CCCB-a i AC/E, i objedinjuje filmove nastale primenom raznovrsnih tehnika, kao svojevrsno svedočanstvo burnih vremena, od početka XX veka, do danas. U ovoj selekciji zastupljene su teme koje se oduvek javljaju, kao što su veze sa svetom stripa, odblesci političkih nedoumica i dijalog sa vizuelnim umetnostima. To je priča s puno praznina, usamljenih međaša (prvi evropski dugometražni animirani film u boji je Garbansito od Manče) i filmova prepuštenih zaboravu; godinama se činilo da španska animacija gotovo i da ne postoji. Ovaj program dokazuje upravo suprotno. Pažljivim odabirom pokušali smo da dođemo do radova koji će predstaviti svaku od različitih epoha i različite trendove, naglašavajući pritom idiosinkratičnost Španije, sa svom njenom kulturnom raznovrsnošću.

FROM DOODLES TO PIXELS Over a Hundred Years of Spanish Animation From Doodles to Pixels: Over One Hundred Years of Spanish Animation is a response to the desire to showcase a little known history – that of Spanish animation cinema. Films like Chico & Rita (Javier Mariscal, Fernando Trueba, Tono Errando, 2010), Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones (Enrique Gato, 2012) or Pos Eso (Sam, 2014) have put Spanish animation on the international map, but these examples are just the tip of the iceberg of the talent and years of hard work involved in creating art and industry, in some cases against all the odds. This cycle is the result of a task of research, revision and recovery of historical material in dialogue with more recent works. From Doodles to Pixels is a coproduction of the CCCB and AC/E that brings together a selection of films animated using diverse techniques that represent turbulent times ranging from the early twentieth century to the present day. It features recurring themes such as links with the world of comic books, reflections of political concerns and dialogue with the visual arts. It’s a story with lots of gaps and isolated landmarks (Europe’s first animated colour feature was Garbancito de la Mancha), dotted with forgotten works; for years, it seemed as though Spanish animation hardly existed. This programme shows that nothing could be further from the truth. Great care has been taken to choose works representing each time period and trend, as well as highlighting Spain’s idiosyncrasy with all its cultural diversity.

Film pod nazivom Zlatni pauk predstavlja jedno od najblistavijh dela u njegovom opusu, sa zadivljujućom animacijom koja u pojedinim sekvencama ide ispred svog vremena. Za ovu priliku pronađeni su i neki od starih promotivnih spotova na nitratnoj filmskoj traci, poput Radio RCA (oko 1935. godine), Enrikea Ferana, koji su nastali u Barseloni tokom Druge španske republike. Tu je još nekoliko restauriranih reklama čiji je autor produktivni Sera i Masana, kao i dela nekih nepoznatih satiričnih autora, La bronca i Cambo i l'autonomia (oko 1918. godine). Ovi filmovi demonstriraju snagu grafičkog humora na ekranu. I K-Hito (En los pasillos del congreso, 1932), i Hoze Eskobar (El fakir Gonzalez) bili su i pisci i reditelji. Tokom ovog perioda, jedini kanal za izražavanje protesta bili su stripovi sa politčkim i socijalnim izrazom. Session 1. DOODLES Tuesday, 5.9.2017, Grand Hall, 4:00 pm The programme starts out with a short by Segundo de Chomon, the illustrious pioneer who worked in Spain, France and Italy. His short The Gold Spider is one of the most admirable pieces in his filmography with some stunning animation sequences for the time. Some vintage promotional spots using nitrate film were collected for this event, like Radio RCA (around 1935) by Enrique Ferran, created in Barcelona during the Second Spanish Republic. A few ads by the productive Mr. Serra I Massana and other more satirical unknown artists, La bronca and Cambo i l’autonomia (around 1918), were also restored. These films demonstrate the strength of on-screen graphic humour. K-Hito (En los pasillos del congreso, 1932) and Jose Escobar (El fakir Gonzalez) were both writers and directors. During this period, political, social comics were all the rage. Later, Javier Mariscal (Chico & Rita) and Calpurnio Pison, two other popular contemporary cartoonists, started making animation films based on their trademark characters Los Garriris and Cuttlas.

Da bi realizovao ovaj projekat, studio Balet y Blay je angažovao autora crtanih filmova Artura Morena i predao rukopis Hulijanu Pemartinu, autoru filma Teoria de la Falange. Garbansito je katoličko siroče koje živi u ambaru sa svojom kozom Peregrinom. Nakon štto jednoga dana čudovišni ljudožder Karavaka otme njegove prijatelje, Garbansito odvažno kreće na put da ih spase, baš poput Don Kihota. Iako pod uticajem braće Flajšer i Diznijevih Silly Symphonies, muzika za film koju je komponovao Hasinto Guerero filmu daje poseban španski prizvuk. Film je postao popularan i pre nego što je počeo da se prikazuje u bioskopima, zahvaljujući priči koju su napisala ova dva autora. Takođe, za film je odobren veći budžet od onoga koji su u to vreme dobijali igrani filmovi, a ulaganje se brzo otplatilo od prihoda prodaje čitavog asortimana pratećih proizvoda. UNDER THE YOKE Tuesday, 5.9.2017, Grand Hall, 6:00 pm To carry out this project, the Balet y Blay studios brought in cartoonist Arturo Moreno and handed over the script to Julian Pemartin, author of Teoria de la Falange. Garbancito is a young Catholic orphan boy who lives in a barn with his goat Peregrina. One day, the ogre Caravaca kidnaps his friends and just like Don Quixote, he courageously sets off to save them. Even though the film is influenced by the Fleischer brothers and Disney’s Silly Symphonies, the soundtrack composed by Jacinto Guerrero gives it a typically Spanish edge. The film was popular before it even hit the screens, due to the tale written by the same two authors. It was also given a higher budget than live action films made at the time, which was quickly recouped through its range of by-products. Shot in Barcelona with a crew of professionals who were learning as they went along, the film was sent to London for editing. The rolls of film then flew over the blood and fires of Europe one more time, escaping the bombardments, and the feature was released in theatres in 1945.

MODERNA VREMENA Sreda, 6.9.2017, Velika sala, 16:00 Uporedo sa razvojem industrije i stvaranjem širokih slojeva srednje klase, otpočeo je procvat reklame, koja je u animaciji prepoznala sredstvo komunikacije koje je moglo da privuče ove nove potrošače. Kao kompanija zadužena za reklamne filmove u Španiji, iz madridskog Estudios Moro potekle su na hiljade animiranih i igranih filmova, među čijim su autorima bila i poznata imena poput Pabla Nunjeza, Paula Kazalinija, Marsela Breja i Fanciska Masijana. Iako su pratili neprikosnoveni uzor poznatijih severnoameričkih ostvarenja, ovi filmovi su često poprimali stilski doteran, moderan, jazzy izgled, poput radova iz UPA studija. Ilustrator Hoze Luis Moro i njegov brat, producent Santjago, najbolji su primer ovog trenda. Radeći zajedno, njih dvojica su ispisala neke od najuzbudljivijih stranica popularne kulture Španije. MODERN TIMES Wednesday, 6.9.2017, Grand Hall, 4:00 pm Together with industrial development and the expanding middle class, advertising began to flourish and found a language in animation that was able to attract these new consumers. Estudios Moro, based in Madrid, became THE company for advertising films in Spain, producing thousands of animated and live action commercials, created by such names as Pablo Nunez, Paul Casalini, Marcel Breuil and Francisco Macian. A North American treatment was the order of the day, but was given a more stylish, modern and jazzy look, similar to that of the UPA studio. The illustrator Jose Luis Moro and his producer brother, Santiago, best reflect this trend, and together wrote one of the most exciting pages of Spain’s popular culture. Some of the best work to come out of Moro highlights this programme, whether from its stock of internationally acclaimed commercials or the unforgettable Vamos a la cama (1965). Other work focuses on ensuing decades with films by Robert Balser, Julio Taltavull, and, closer to home, Isabel Herguera, Adriana Navarro, Carles Porta and Miguel Gallardo.

MASIJAN, MAESTRO Četvrtak, 7.9.2017, Velika sala, 16:00 Istaknuti španski animator, Fransisko Masijan (Barselona, 1929-1976.) osnovao je sopstveni studio u Barseloni 1955. godine, u kome je izrađivao reklame za madridski Estudios Moro. Godine 1966, Fransisko režira svoj prvi dugometražni film: El mago de los suenos (Čarobnjak snova), inspirisan Andersenovom bajkom Ole Luk-oje. Ova priča i likovi koji se u njoj pojavljuju - La Familia Telerin - stekli su populanost u Španiji zahvaljujući promotivnom filmu Vamos a la cama (1965) napravljen za špansku nacionanu televiziju (TVE, Television Espanola). Uz obilje asocijacija na svet Diznijevih junaka, Masijanov film crpi snagu iz rada umetnika kao što su Salvador Mestres, Đaume Vila, Đordi Him, Albert Rue i Karmelo Garmendia i Vikar (koji je autor lika Čarobnjaka), kao i savremenih i prepoznatljivih kreacija likova Hozea Luisa Mora. Pored dečjih glasova, u muzici za film učestvuju i savremeni umetnici poput Los 3 Sudamericanos, Ćiko Gordiljo, Enio Sanđusto i Los de la Torre. Autor muzike je Đosep Sola: iako je ovo njegova prva opera, i uprkos tehničkim poteškoćama na koje su nailazili tokom produkcije, konačno ostvarenje nastavlja da traje kao jedno od najboljih i najomiljenijih muzičkih ostvarenja u istoriji španskog animiranog filma. Pre projekcije filma, biće prikazane dve reklame koje je Masijan izradio tokom pedesetih godina prošlog veka.

MACIÁN, THE MAESTRO Thursday, 7.9.2017, Grand Hall, 4:00 pm A distinguished Spanish animator, Francisco Macian (Barcelona, 1929-1976) created his own studio in Barcelona in 1955 where he created commercials for Estudios Moro. In 1966 he directed his first feature: El mago de los suenos (The Dream Wizard), inspired by Andersen’s fairy tale Ole Lukoje. This story and its characters La Familia Telerin became popular in Spain thanks to a promotional film Vamos a la cama (1965) for TVE (Television Espanola). Macian’s film, full of Disney references, was driven by the work of Salvador Mestres, Jaume Vila, Jordi Gim, Albert Rue and Carmelo Garmendia y Vicar (also the creator of the El mago character), as well as the modern and identifiable character designs by Jose Luis Moro. The soundtrack features children’s voices as well as artists from the era like Los 3 Sudamericanos, Chicho Gordillo, Ennio Sangiusto and Los de la Torre. Josep Sola wrote the music and despite the fact that this was his first opera and considering the technical difficulties they ran into during production, it’s some of the most well-loved music from Spanish animation history. Two of Macian’s commercials from the ‘50s will be screened before the film.

Sesija br. 5 TRAG UMETNIKA Petak, 8.9.2017, Velika sala, 16:00 Tokom sedamdesetih godina proteklog veka, jedna industrija počinje da se razvija, sve više izlazeći u susret potrebama sadržaja malog ekrana, i premda je određeni broj umetnika prednost davao umetničkoj sceni, mnogi su prepoznali fantastične mogućnosti animacijje kao medija koji bi mogao da ujedni različite vrste umetnosti. Nema sumnje da je Španija već tada imala nekoliciju renomiranih umetnika u ovoj oblasti, uključujući Ivana Zuluetu (ključnu figuru španskog andergraund filmskog stvaralaštva), Hosea Antonija Sistiagu i Rafaela Ruisa Balerdija (njih dvojica su 1966. godine bili među osnivačima grupe Gaur modernih umetnika Baskije), Frederika Amata (čiji je film Estela izrađen posebno za ovaj filmski program), Marcel-li Antunes (jedan od osnivača pozorišne grupe La Fura dels Baus) i dua video umetnika, Davida Bestue i Marka Vivesa. Ovde treba pomenuti i film Minotauromaquia (2004), vanserijski rad u tehnici plastelina kao svojevrsnu interpretaciju univerzuma jednog od najvećih umetnika Španije, Pabla Pikasa. THE ARTIST’S TRACE Friday, 8.9.2017, Grand Hall, 4:00 pm During the 1970s, an industry began to get off the ground by answering to the needs of content for the small screen, although some creatives were more attracted to the art scene, seeing a fantastic medium for bringing all the arts together in animation. Spain certainly had a few big names working in the field including Ivan Zulueta (a key figure in Spain’s underground filmmaking scene), Jose Antonio Sistiaga and Rafael Ruiz Balerdi (two of the founding members of the Gaur group of Basque modern artists, created in 1966), Frederic Amat (whose film Estela was made especially for this programme of films), Marcel-li Antunez (founding member of La Fura dels Baus theatre troupe) and the tandem of video artists David Bestue and Marc Vives. And not forgetting Minotauromaquia (2004), the extraordinary plasticine interpretation of the universe of one of Spain’s greatest artists, Picasso, as well as the new generation of artistanimators such as Izibene Onederra, Alberto Vazquez and Laura Gines who, like Juan Pablo Etcheverry or Mercedes Gaspar, come from the prolific Fine Arts background.

Session 6. HUMOR I POKOLJ Subota, 9.9.2017, Velika sala, 16:00 Časopis El Papus izradio je prvi animirani dugometažni film za odrasle 1979. godine, pod nazivom Historias de amor y masacre. Film se sastoji od kratkih animiranih filmova najeksplozivnijih umetnika iz ove epohe, Oskar, Gila, Ive, Periča, Čamija Čumeza i Đordija Amorosa, koji ih i je objedinio na zajedničkom projektu. Ovaj program predstavlja najmanje politički korektnu i istovremeno najagresivniju komponentu ovog ciklusa. Kako tokom tranzicije u demokratiju nije nestalo sve što je negativno, uključili smo i kasnije radove političke ili socijalne konotacije, kao i neke koji se bave paranoičnom teorijom zavere u tretiranju nekih od kontroverznih tema kao što su imigracija, nasilje u porodici i zloupotreba vlasti. Da bi smo dodatno podstakli apetit gledalaca, tu su i dva od najstarijih kratkih animiranih filmova koji se bave političkim temama na satirični način: La bronca i Cambo i l’autonomia, još sa početka dvadesetog veka. Ovo će isto tako biti i prilika da se uživa u Samovim filmovima iz perioda pre filma Possessed, kao i u nekim veoma svežim ostvarenjima, kao što je ikonoklastični Amor de mono madridskog tima Trimono.

HUMOR AND CARNAGE Saturday, 9.9.2017, Grand Hall, 4:00 pm El Papus Magazine produced the first animated feature for adults in 1979, Historias de amor y masacre, made up of shorts by the most caustic artists of their time – Oscar, Gila, Iva, Perich, Chumy Chumez and Jordi Amoros (JA) – joined together by the latter. This is the least politically correct and the most aggressive programme in the cycle. As all the bad did not disappear during the democratic transition, we’ve included later works that are political or social in nature and some reflecting conspiracy theory paranoia, on controversial subjects like immigration, consumerism, domestic violence or abuse of power. To whet your appetite, we’ve included two of the oldest shorts in the programme dealing with political themes in a satirical manner: La bronca and Cambo i l’autonomia, dating back to the early twentieth century. You can also enjoy the work of Sam before Possessed and films as recent as the iconoclast Amor de mono from the collective from Madrid, Trimono.

Poslovično vešt u pronalaženju najtalentovanijih među umetnicma, Dizni je četrdesetih godina prošlog veka pozvao Dalija da skicira film koji će se realizovati tek mnogo godina kasnije, pod nazivom Destino (2003). Tokom godina, veliki inostrani studiji su se uvek oslanjali na rad španskh umetnika i drugih profesionalaca koji su davali svoj doprinos u različitim ograncima animacije: Amblimation (Raul Garsija), Disney (Karlos Baena, Lorelaj Bove), Pixar (Rodrigo Blas, Čarli Ramos), DreamWorks (Grangel Studio, Viktor Vinials) i Aardman (Paskual Peres). Sakupili smo i radove iz ličnog opusa Giljerma Garsije Karsija, autora inovativne serije Pocoyo, koju sa zanimanjem prate milioni mališana širom sveta; prvi kratki animirani film Čarlija Ramosa u vreme kada je radio za studio Piksar (Pixar) za njega je bio tek običan san; otkačena kvazi-reklama Adrija Garsije i Viktora Maldonada (sada šefa studija Headless), nakon filma Nocturna (2007); prvi kratki animirani film Enrikea Gata, u kome oživljava njegov eponimni heroj, Tadeo Jones (2004); a tu je i Kako se izboriti sa smrću (How to Cope With Death, 2002) Ignasija Fererasa, čije je stvaralaštvo sada upotpunjeno i prvim dugometražnim animiranim filmom Wrinkles (2011), po motivima stripa čiji je autor Pako Roka.

DESTINO HOLLYWOOD (AND BEYOND) Saturday, 9.9.2017, Grand Hall, 6:00 pm Adept for spotting the most talented artists, Disney called on Salvador Dali in the 1940s to draw up a film that would be made much later, Destino (2003). Over the years big studios abroad have counted on Spanish artists and other professionals in various animation sectors: Amblimation (Raul Garcia), Disney (Carlos Baena, Lorelai Bove), Pixar (Rodrigo Blaas, Charlie Ramos), DreamWorks (Grangel Studio, Victor Vinyals) and Aardman (Pascual Perez). We’ve also assembled the personal work of Guillermo Garia Carsi, the creator of Pocoyo, the innovative series watched by millions of little ones all over the world; the first short that Charlie Ramos made at the time when working at Pixar was only a dream to him; a silly fake commercial by Adria Garcia and Victor Maldonado (now at the head of Headless Studio), after Nocturna (2007); Enrique Gato’s first short where his eponymous hero came to life, Tadeo Jones (2004); as well as How to Cope With Death (2002) by Ignacio Ferreras, who gained the recognition he needed to make his first feature, Wrinkles (2011), based on the graphic novel by Paco Roca.

SLEDEĆA GENERACIJA Subota, 9.9.2017, Velika sala, 19:30 Ovaj program predstavlja kolekciju kratkih animiranih filmova nastalih u Španiji tokom protekle decenije, a autori nekih od ovih filmova su mladi španski umetnici koji su već stekli svetsku slavu, poput Rosija Alvaresa, Dvein, Blanka Font, Busta i Nikolaja Trošinskog. Uvereni smo da će filmovi iz ove selekcije biti pravo uživanje za gledaoce: pored I Come by Every Day (2004) Raula Aroja, tu su i drugi vredni kratki filmovi kao što je Twin Girls of Sunset Street (2010), stop-motion urađen po motivima istinitih strašnih događaja u Barseloni sa početka 20. veka; peti nastavak filma Bendito Machine (2014) Đosija Malisa; Zepo (2014), tragična priča ispričana kroz animaciju peskom; Džin (2012), poetična priča o očinstvu; konačno, tu je i film Princesa china (2014), Tomasa Basesa, jednog od naših najtalentovanijih 3D animatora.

Selected for your viewing pleasure: Raul Arroyo’s film I Come by Every Day (2004) and other noteworthy shorts like the stop-motion based on horrifying true events that took place at the beginning of the 20th century in Barcelona, The Twin Girls of Sunset Street (2010); the fifth part of Jossie Malis’s Bendito Machine (2014); Zepo (2014), the tragic story told through sand animation which is also in competition this year; The Giant, a poetic tale about fatherhood; and finally Princesa china (2014) by Thomas Bases, one of our most talented filmmakers working in 3D.

Portret animatora: Bruno Boceto Sreda 6.9.2017, Mala sala, 18:00 Prvi animirani film, Tapum, the history of weapons, Bruno Boceto (Milano, Italija, 1938) napravio je još 1958. godine. Nakon što je prikazan na festivalu u Kanu, ovaj kratki animirani film je izazvao interesovanje kritičara i publike, i zahvaljujući njemu Bocetu se ukazala prilika da se upozna sa Normanom Meklarenom i Džonom Halasom, poznatim britanskim producentom, sa kojim je uskoro započeo saradnju. U Milanu 1960. godine osniva vlastitu filmsu kompaniju, a iste godine kreirao je i svog prvog čuvenog junaka, Gospodina Rosija, oličenje predstavnika srednje klase, čija popularnost traje do naših dana, zahvaljujući uvek aktuelnim problemima italijanskog društva. U najpoznatije dugometražne filmove Bruna Boceta spadaju West and Soda (1967), Vip my brother superman (1968) i Allegro non Troppo (1976), koji su kritičari proglasili za italijanski pandan čuvenoj Fantaziji Volta Diznija, koji je tokom čitave karijere nastavio da inspiriše Boceta. A Portrait of an Animator: Bruno Bozzetto Wednesday, 6.9.2017, Conference Room, 6:00 pm Bruno Bozzetto (Milan, Italy, 1938) created his first animated short Tapum, the history of weapons back in 1958. This animated short was screened at Cannes and sparked interest amongst the audience as well as the critics, making it possible for him to meet Norman McLaren and John Halas, a very famous British film producer who offered him the chance of collaborating. In 1960 the Bruno Bozzetto Film Company was established in Milan. That’s when Bruno gave life to his very first and timeless character, Mr Rossi, still very popular today since he embodies the qualities of a middle class man bound to face the evergreen problems of Italian society. Bozzeto’s renowned feature films are West and Soda (1967), Vip my brother superman (1968) and Allegro non Troppo (1976), the latter regarded by the critique as the Italian answer to illustrious Fantasia by Walt Disney, who strongly inspired Bruno throughout his career. For the most noteworthy short films, Bozzeto received much recognition as well as many awards including four Italian Silver Ribbons, ten Career Awards, The Golden Bear Award for Mr Tao at the Berlin Film Festival and an Oscar Nomination for Grasshoppers in 1991. In 1995 Help! became part to the project What a cartoon! by Hanna& Barbera. Since 2000 Bruno has been devoting himself to 2D computer animation, creating a significant number of short films, destined to the Internet, the very first of which Europe and Italy gained great success worldwide. Today, Bruno Bozzetto with the full support of his own Studio of Production, Studio Bozzetto & Co., based in Milan, has been working on several 2D and 3D projects.

It’s something the protagonist of this film has been doing for over 50 years: he has made more than 300 feature films, short films and animations for television and the web, and he is still at it, loved by millions of viewers around the world. He has received a Golden Bear, an Oscar nomination, and prizes and tributes from all over the world, and he is internationally considered a genius of animation, his name standing beside those of Miyazaki, John Lasseter of Pixar, Nick Park and Matt Groening of The Simpsons (some of whom cite him explicitly as an influence). He is rather reserved when it comes to all the rewards and glories, though, which is another reason why it’s always a surprise to discover that he really is a maestro – what some people simply call a legend. Pored visokog nivoa umešnosti u različitim tehnikama animacije, filmovi demonstriraju i impresivnu sposobnost stvaranja efikasnog filmskog doživljaja primenom narativa, strukture i humora. Nastali na najprominentnijoj izraelskoj školi animacije, pod mentorstvom i vođstvom prefinjenih animatora i medijskih stvaralaca, ovi filmski radovi van svake sumnje predstavljaju pravi praznik kreativnosti i originalnosti mladih filmskih umetnika savremenog Izraela. Program će predstaviti Tal Gadon, viši predavač na Odseku za ekranske umetnosti Akademije za umetnost i dizajn Besalel.

Stiven Wološin rođen je u kanadskom gradu Lavalu 1960. godine. Tokom više od 30 godina, s puno posvećenosti, načinio je više od 50 nagrađivanih apstraktnih filmova i vremenskih instalacija za festivale, galerije i muzeje. Pored dvostruke nominacije za nagradu koju dodeljuje Generalni guverner Kanade, Stiven je dobitnik i brojnih donacija za podsticaj istraživačkom i kreativnom stvaralaštvu. Među najnovijim priznanjima su dve nagrade za životno delo: nagrada René Jodoin koju je dobio 2016. godine, kao i nagrada na festivalu u Visbadenu, iz 2015. godine. Vološin je predavač, konzervator filma, animator, vešt zanatlija i autor dve knjige: Recepti za rekonstrukciju: Kuvar za štedljivog filmskog radnika (2010), praktičnog priručnika za propadanje, obnovu i druge ručne, analogne filmske tehnike, i knjige Scratch, Crackle & Pop! Integralni pristup izradi filma bez kamere (2015). Pod sopstvenim brendom Scratchatopia, Vološin je prezentovao dve samostalne retrospektive i održao veliki broj radionica i stručnih predavanja u oblasti manuelnih tehnika izrade filma u Argentini, Maroku, SAD, Sloveniji, Australiji, Francuskoj, Velikoj Britaniji, Grčkoj, Portugalu, Španiji, Slovačkoj, Poljskoj, Meksiku, kao i širom Kanade.

Steven Woloshen was born in Laval, Canada in 1960. For more than 30 years, he has passionately created over 50 award-winning, abstract films and time-based installations for festivals, galleries and museums. Twice nominated for Canada’s Governor General’s award, he has received numerous research and creation grants and, most recently, was awarded the 2016 René Jodoin lifetime achievement award, and 2015 Wiesbaden Lifetime Achievement Award. Woloshen is a teacher, film conservationist, animator, craftsman and the author of two books, Recipes for Reconstruction: The Cookbook for the Frugal Filmmaker (2010), a hands-on manual for decay, renewal and other handmade, analogue film techniques, and Scratch, Crackle & Pop! A Whole Grains Approach to Making Films without a Camera (2015). Under his own banner, Scratchatopia, Woloshen has hosted solo retrospectives and taught handmade filmmaking techniques at workshops and master classes in Argentina, Morocco, USA, Slovenia, Australia, France, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia, Poland, Mexico as well as across Canada.

Savremena grčka animacija: Portreti jedne zemlje Petak, 8.9.2017, Velika sala, 19:30 Animacija u Grčkoj ima svoje autorske forme (među čijim začetnicima su umetnici poput Žorža Sifianosa, Stratosa Stasinosa, Jordana Ananiadisa), kao i forme namenjene emitovanju, odnosno urađene po narudžbini (Artoon, Magicon, TimeLapse Pictures, Kounoupi) čiji je uticaj, uprkos neospornog kvaliteta, ostao mahom ograničen na lokalnu scenu. Možda je krivac za to i državno finansiranje umetničkih projekata ove vrste, koje nikada nije omogućavalo dobro organizovanu i stabilnu dugoročnu produkciju. Uprkos ovome, grčka kriza (od 2009. godine, do danas) kao da je udahnula neku novu vitalnost u nezavisnu animaciju u Grčkoj. Naime, grčki umetnici – i to mahom oni koji žive i rade van granica zemlje – pomerili su granice balkanske satire, stvorivši kompleksne portrete u trećem liicu, angažovane koliko i obaveštene, raznovrsne figure jedne zemlje u raspadu. Nakon dugih godina odsustva sa glavne scene, Grčka je 2010. godine ponovo imala svog predstavnika, stop motion elegiju Selo (The Village) Steliosa Polihronakisa u takmičarskom programu festivala u Ansiju. Nasos Vakalis izazvao je poplavu šoka svojim političkim hororom Večera za nekolicinu (Dinner for few, 2014), dok je Efi Papa nastupila sa gorko-slatkom atinskom satirom Moja punjena baka (My Stuffed Granny). Sada su tu i novi talenti (I. Vianeli, A. Roditakis), prisutni na sceni zajedno sa priznatim profesionalcima (P. Rapas, K. Atanasopolu, J. Zonga). Festivali animacije u periodu nakon 2005. godine (Animfest u Atini, Animasiros na Sirosu, Be there! na Krfu, Solunski festival animacije), kao i obnovljena inicijativa 'ASIFA Hellas' u znak proslave 70 godina grčke animacije (2015.), iznenada su uneli živost u grčku animaciju. I dok se na jednoj strani priprema novi zakon o međunarodnoj koprodukciji, nadareni autori – radeći nezavisno – pripremaju mnoštvo novih portreta jedne zemlje. Držimo im palčeve. Contemporary Greek Animation: Portraits of A Country Friday, 8.9.2017, Grand Hall, 7:30 pm Animation in Greece in both its auteurist (Georges Sifianos, Stratos Stasinos, Jordan Ananiadis among the pioneers) and broadcast/commissioned forms (Artoon, Magicon, TimeLapse Pictures, Kounoupi companies) tended to be a fine but mainly a home-grown affair. Blame it to the Greek State funding, which never allowed for a scheduled and safe animation production timeline. Still, the Greek Crisis (2009-present) brought forward a renewed vitality of Greek independent animation. Greek artists –mostly outside Greece – moved beyond Balkan satire to create complex, third-person, but informed and engaged, varied portraits of a country torn apart. After many years of Greek absence, the stop-motion elegy The Village by Stelios Polychronakis competed at the 2010 Annecy festival (official competition). Nassos Vakalis created shock waves with his political horror Dinner for few (2014), while Effie Pappa offered a bittersweet Athenian satire in My Stuffed Granny. New talents (I. Vianelli, A. Roditakis) now present along with established professionals (P. Rappas, K. Athanassopoulou, J. Zhonga). Animation festivals after 2005 (Animfest Athens, Animasyros, Be there! Corfu, Thessaloniki Animation Festival), and a renewed ASIFA Hellas iniatitive to celebrate the 70 years of Greek animation (2015) made the Greek animation scene suddenly happier. A new law regarding international co-productions is currently under negotiation, and more portraits of a country are now being independently prepared. Cross your fingers. Program SRPSKI ANIMIRANI FILM 1925-1968 bazira se na DVD izdanju SRPSKI ANIMIRANI FILM 1 objavljenom 2016. u Beogradu. Svi filmovi iz ove kolekcije telekinirani su sa 35mm filmske trake u Arhivu jugoslovenske kinoteke i predstavljaju prvi deo retrospektive srpske animacije, koji obuhvata period od najstarijih pronađenih animiranih materijala u Srbiji do 1968. Najraniji materijal potiče iz 1925. godine, i reč je o onovremenoj reklami za lutriju, pod nazivom Ovde traži pa ćeš naći! Milijon!, Ernesta Bošnjaka. Na listi je i minijatura Pecaroš i ribica, fotografa iz Niša Miroljuba Stošića, koja se smatra prvi srpskim crtanim filmom. Neizostavna su imena Vere i Ljubiše Jocić, čiji je film iz 1949. Pionir i dvojka označio početke srpske animacije i prvu značajnu nagradu, Zlatnog lava na festivalu u Veneciji, 1951. godine. Početak šezdesetih svedoči prvim srpskim profesionalnim ostvarenjima, Čovek od krede i Solista, a oba potpisuje autor velikog entuzijazma i kreativne energije, Nikola Majdak. Film Pardon Majdak radi zajedno sa Nemcem Kurtom Lindom, u koprodukciji Dunav filma i Linda filma iz Minhena, glavni crtež potpisuje Borislav Šajtinac, što je bio i debi ovog autora u animiranom filmu, čije ostvarenje iz 1968. godine Analiza i zatvara ovaj program. The programme SERBIAN ANIMATED FILM 1925-1968 is based on the DVD edition SERBIAN ANIMATED FILM 1, published in 2016 in Belgrade. All of the films from this collection have been taken from the 35 mm film stock, courtesy of the Yugoslav Film Archive, as the first part of the retrospective of the Serbian animation, from the earliest discovered works, to 1968. The oldest material dates back to 1925: it is a advertisement of the time for lottery, titled Search Here And You’ll Find! A Million! made by Ernest Bošnjak. The list includes The Fisherman and the Little Fish made by Miroljub Stošić, a photographer from Niš, a miniature which is considered to be the first Serbian animated film. The list contains the key names of Vera and Ljubiša Jocić, whose 1949 Pupil And A Bad Mark signified the beginning of Serbian animation, as well as its first major recognition, the Golden Lion at the Venice Festival in 1951. Early 1960s witnessed the first Serbian professional releases, The Chalk Man and The Soloist both signed by Nikola Majdak, an author of enormous enthusiasm and creative energy. He made his film Pardon in collaboration with the German author Kurt Linda, a co-production of Dunav film and the Linda Film from Munich, with Borislav Šajtinac making his animated debut as the main drawing artist; a film by the same artist, Analysis, from 1968, closes this programme. Rodžer igra glavnu ulogu u stop-motion animiranoj seriji. On doživi nesreću na setu i bude izbačen iz serije. Sve je izgubljeno, dok nešto neočekivano ne promeni njegovu sudbinu.
Beli mačak neprestano pokušava da dođe do hrane, ali niko se ne obazire na njega. Sve dok mu u tihom očaju, jer je i sama prošla kroz isto, mala bela ptičica ne pomogne.
Roger plays the leading role in an stop motion animation series. He suffers an accident on set that leaves him out of the series. All is lost for him, until something unexpected will change his fate.
A white cat that makes many attempts to get food, but no one pays attention to him. Until in quiet desperation, a small white bird as if it had gone through the same steps, helps the cat.

Why is the night changing the day? Well, when you don’t like something, you change it.
Charlie, a little boy with ridiculous big teeth, always hides behind his scarf to avoid the teasing from his classmates. But one day, his scarf flies away into the forest, force him to look for it... and also push him to start on a magical journey.

In Louisiana, at nightfall, when everybody is falling asleep, a frog has started singing in the depths of the bayou.
The little bird has plenty of peace and quiet high up in its tree, at least until an unexpected guest shows up: the brash caterpillar’s keen on devouring the green leaves that the little bird has cared for so tenderly.

Da bi zaštitio svoje knjige, Albert, mladi bibliotekar, mora ostaviti predrasude po strani i sklopiti prijateljstvo sa slepim mišem.
Chika the dog and the five-year old Mikasch are the heroes of this story which is set in a Jewish ghetto in an unnamed Polish city. During World War II it was forbidden for Jews to keep their pets. One day the official orders decreed that Jews have to deliver all dogs. Mikasch refuses to obey this command...

A little journey through a forest full of creatures looking for a snack.

Ratni pilot, izumitelj, špijun – život Roalda Dala bio je često poput života junaka nekog avanturističkog romana. Od pada aviona u Africi, do prijateljstava sa zvezdama Holivuda i susretima sa poznatim ličnostima, od Volta Diznija do predsednika Ruzvelta, njegov život je direktna inspiracija za priče o velikim avanturama, i odslikava se u njegovim najpoznatiji knjigama, od Čarlija i fabrike čokolade, do Matilde. Grozomorne rime predstavlja zbirku njegove poezije objavljene 1982. godine (sa ilustracijama Kventina Blejka). Uovoj parodiji u stihu na tradicionalne narodne priče, Dal daje svoju verziju poznatih bajki, koje se kod njega završavaju na drugačiji i iznenađujući način, umesto poznatih srećnih završetaka. Sada njegova zbirka Grozomorne rime ponovo oživljava na čudesan način u animiranom filmu, genijalno protkanim najpoznatijim stihovima Roalda Dala. Deo prvi: Snežana i Crvenkapa postaju najbolje prijateljice, nakon što Snežana dobija moći Zle kraljice, a Crvenkapu pozivaju kući da se obračuna sa dva gladna vuka, jednim koji je progutao njenu baku i obukao njenu odeću, i drugog, koji bez prestanka guta nesmotrene prasiće. Deo drugi: Dok Džek odrasta, njegova simpatija je Sindi, devojčica iz susedstva. Nju privlači jedan dostojni princ, koga upoznaje na balu, a Džeka ometa džinovski pasulj koji raste u dnu njegove bašte. Da li će oni pronaći put ka pravoj ljubavi?

Fighter pilot, inventor, spy - the life of Roald Dahl is often stranger than fiction. From crashing his plane over Africa to hobnobbing in Hollywood, and his remarkable encounters with everyone from Walt Disney to President Roosevelt – his life is the story of greatest adventures, and how real-life escapades find expression in his most famous books, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Matilda. Revolting Rhymes is a collection of his poems published in 1982 (illustrated by Quentin Blake). In this parody of traditional folk tales in verse, Dahl gives a re-interpretation of well-known fairy tales, featuring surprise endings in place of the traditional happily-ever-after finishes. Now Revolting Rhymes is brought wondrously to life in an animated film, in which ingeniously interweaves five of Roald Dahl’s most famous rhymes. Part One: Snow White and Red Riding Hood become lifelong friends as Snow White takes on the might of the wicked Queen, while Red is called home to deal with a pair of hungry wolves, one who has eaten her grandma and then dressed in her clothes, and another who can’t stop himself from eating some unsuspecting pigs. Part Two: Jack grows up with his heart set on next-door neighbour Cindy. She has her eye turned by the eligible prince at the ball, and Jack gets distracted by a giant beanstalk at the bottom of his garden. Will they find true love?

Bez izgovorene rečenice i dijaloga, ova animirana alegorija na vrlo emotivan i jednostavan način pripoveda o stvaranju života vrednog življenja, ispunjenog ljubavlju i uvažavanjem. Film Crvena kornjača je osvojio veliki broj nagrada, među njima specijalnu nagradu žirija u kategoriji Un Certain Regard na filmskom festivalu u Kanu, i Kristal za najbolji animirani dugometražni film na festivalu u Ansiju. Michaël Dudok de Wit (1953, Utreht, Holandija) animator, reditelj i ilustrator. Diplomirao je 1978. na Koledžu umetnosti West Surrey u Velikoj Britaniji. Živi u Londonu, režira i kreira animacije za reklame za televiziju i film, od kojih su mnoge osvojile nagrade. Njegov kratki film Monah i riba (1994) nominovan je za Oskara i dobio je brojne nagrade, među kojima nagradu Cezar za najbolji kratki film i Cartoon d'Or. Njegov najpoznatiji film Otac i kćer (2000) dobio je Oskara, nagradu BAFTA, Gran pri u Ansiju i na desetine drugih značajnih nagrada. Crvena kornjača je njegov prvi dugometražni film.

The Red Turtle is a story of a castaway on a tropical desert island populated only by turtles, crabs and birds. His every attempt to escape on makeshift raft is obstructed by a mysterious red turtle... Without a single sentence of a dialogue, this animated allegory tells a simple, yet highly emotional story of creating a life worth living, filled with love and respect. The Red Turtle is the winner of numerous awards, including the special award of the jury in the category Un Certain Regard at the Cannes film festival, as well as the Crystal for the best animated feature at the film festival in Annecy. Michaël Dudok de Wit (1953, Utrecht, Holland) is an animator, director and illustrator. He graduated at the West Surrey Art College in Great Britain in 1978. He lives in London where he directs and creates animation for advertisements, television and film, many of which have received awards and recognitions. His animated short The Monk and the Fish (1994) was nominated for Oscar and won numerous awards, including Caesar for the best animated short and Cartoon d’Or. His most famous film, Father and Daughter (2000) was awarded and Oscar, as well as the BAFTA award, the Annecy Grand Prix, and dozens of other important awards. The Red Turtle is his first animated feature.

Vázquez i Rivero su i ranije uspešno sarađivali, i svakako vredi spomenuti njihov film Birdboy iz 2011. godine, koji im je doneo nagradu Goya, a koji bi se sada mogao posmatrati kao dvanaestominutni prolog podjednako impresivnom dugometražnom filmu. Nakon kratkog osvrta na događaje opisane u pomenutm kratkom animiranom filmu (industrijska katastrofa ubija najveći deo populacije na zabačenom ostrvu, dok se nekolicina preživelih bori sa očajanjem, nasiljem i siromaštvom u svom razorenom okruženju), u Psihonautima pronalazimo iste likove nakon nekoliko godina, gde umesto dece zatičemo adolescente ophrvane nedaćama. Birdboy i Dinki su odlučili da se spasu sa ostrva razorenog ekološkom katastrofom: I dok se Birdboy zatvara i izoluje od spoljašnjeg sveta, Dinki kreće na opasno putovanje, u nadi da će joj se Birdboy priružiti. After recapping that short’s events briefly (an industrial catastrophe kills much of an isolated island’s population, reducing the survivors to various forms of desperation, violence, and poverty in their devastated environment), Psychonauts finds the same characters several years along, no longer children but angsty adolescents. Birdboy and Dinki have decided to escape from an island devastated by ecological catastrophe: Birdboy by shutting himself off from the world, Dinki by setting out on a dangerous voyage in the hope that Birdboy will accompany her. ALBERTO VÁZQUEZ (A Coruña, 1980) is an animation director, illustrator and cartoonist. His books and comics have been published in Spain, France, Italy, Brazil, Korea and other countries. He has written and directed short animation Birdboy and Unicorn blood based on his comics. PEDRO RIVERO (Bilbao, 1969) is a producer, director and screenwriter. His feature film Goomer, Goya Award for the Best Spanish Animated Feature Film 1999. Devetogodišnji Ikar ostaje bez majke nakon čega sirotište postaje njegov novi dom. Kao novajlija sa neobičnim nadimkom “Tikvica”, on postaje laka meta dežurnog dečaka siledžije u domu. Iako mu je od majke alkoholičarke ostao samo nadimak, a detinjstvo obeleženo tragedijom i samoćom, “Tikvica” nije klonuo duhom. On saznaje da su i druga deca u domu doživela slična traumatična iskustva, tako da će on i njegovi novi drugovi naučiti da nesreća ne mora konačno da definiše nečiji život, što postaje i neophodna poruka za sve nas. Klod Baras (1973), reditelj iz Švajcarske, studirao je ilustraciju i kompjutersku grafiku u školi „Emil Kol“ u Lionu. Studirao je i kompjutersku grafiku u Kantonalnoj školi umetnosti u Lozani i radio kao slobodni umetnik-ilustrator u Ženevi. Baras je režirao nekoliko kratkih filmova, među kojima su Stigmates (2002), Le génie de la boîte de raviolis (2006), Sainte barbe (2007), Au Pays des têtes (2009), i Chambre 69 (2012). Film Le génie de la boîte de raviolis dobio je brojne nagrade na filmskim festivalima širom sveta. Moj život kao tikvica (2016) je Barasov prvi dugometražni animirani film.

Nine-year old Ikar loses his mother and the orphanage becomes his new home. As a newcomer with an unusual nickname ‘Zucchini’, he becomes an easy prey for the local bully in the orphanage. Although his alcoholic mother had left him only the nickname, and despite his childhood overshadowed with tragedy and loneliness, Zucchini never lost his spirits. He will soon learn that the other children in the orphanage had had similar traumatic experiences, but this will eventually help himself and his friends realise that misfortune does not have to be an ultimate definition of a lifetime, and this message inevitably applies to all of us. Claude Barras (born 1973) is a Swiss director. Barras studied illustration and computer graphics at École Emile Cohl in Lyon. He also studied computer graphics at ECAL (École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne) and worked as a freelance illustrator in Geneva, where he currently resides. Barras has directed several shorts including Stigmates (2002), Le génie de la boîte de raviolis (The Genie in a Ravioli Can, 2006), Sainte barbe (2007), Au Pays des tetes (Land of the Heads, 2009), and Chambre 69 (2012). Le génie de la boîte de raviolis received numerous awards in film festivals around the world. My Life as a Courgette (2016) is Barras’ first full-length animated feature.

Radionice Radionica animacije: Stiven Vološin Četvrtak, 7.9.2017, Mala sala, 12:00-18:00 Ukoliko želite da stvarate kao slikar ili autor filma, ovo je sjajna prilika da napravite sopstveni animirani ili eksperimentalni film na traci od 35 mm, a da pri tom ne morate da koristite kameru ili da radite na obradi filma. I Norman Meklaren i Len Laj su tokom 30-ih godina prošlog veka istraživali ovu tehniku, i do danas, nakon više od 80 godina, ona ne prestaje da iznenađuje gledaoce. U radionici koju će voditi Stiven Vološin, istražujemo različite tehnike izrade filma bez kamere, usput otkrivajući nove mogućnosti. Učesnici biraju materijale i alate koji su podesni za rad, a zatim izvode različite postupke grebanja, bojenja i postavljanja kolaža na bezbojnu podlogu, crnu podlogu ili podlogu sa prethodno nanetim snimkom. Workshops Animation Workshop: Steven Woloshen Thursday, 7.9.2017, Conference room, 12:00-6:00 pm If you want to create like a painter and a filmmaker, here's a great opportunity to make your own 35mm animated or experimental film without a camera and without processing film. Both Norman McLaren and Len Lye explored this technique in the 1930s and almost 80 years later, it still continuously surprises audiences. In this workshop led by Steven Woloshen, we explore the multiple techniques of camera-less filmmaking and discover new ones along the way. Participants are encouraged to choose materials and tools that work effectively, then scratch, paint and collage directly on to the surface of clear leader, black leader or previously shot material. We also look at popular methods of digitizing hand made films too.

Stripovi Aleksanda Zolotića 5-12. septembar, Likovni salon Doma kulture Aleksandar Zolotić je diplomirao na Fakultetu primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu, na odseku za ilustraciju i animaciju. Ilustrovao je knjige vodećih srpskih izdavača dečijih knjiga, poput Kreativnog centra, a saradnja za ilustratorskom agencijom sa sedištem u Londonu, pružila mu je šansu da radi i sa američkim i engleskim kućama. Fleksibilnost stila omogućila mu je da radi i na stripovima i sarađuje sa poznatim srpskim scenaristima, kao i na video igrama. Radio je kao ilustrator grafike u uspešnom beogradskom studiju za razvoj igara Mad Head Games. Izložbom stripova Aleksandra Zolotića Animanima predstavlja važan doprinos ovog autora domaćoj sceni, koja obiluje kvalitetnim strip umetnicima. Izložene table iz strip albuma Korporativni pandemonijum (Besna kobila, 2014), nastalog u saradnji sa scenaristom Zoranom Penevskim, kao i table rađene za treći i peti album strip serijala Linije fronta prema scenarijima Pavla Zelića i Milana Jovanovića, predstaviće Zolotićeve težnje da se kroz strip izrazi u širem, narativnom, kao i u kratkom, epizodnom formatu. Svet Korporativnog pandemonijuma nastao je iz neobjavljenog serijala ilustracija, s namerom da kroz originalne karaktere i okruženje inspirisano autorima anti-utopijskog filmskog i književnog žanra, oblikuje lične stavove o društvenim mehanizmima koji nas okružuju. Album je 2014. nagrađen plaketom ULUPUDS-a za najbolji strip na Beogradskom sajmu knjiga. Strip serijal Linije fronta pružio je priliku da Zolotić stane rame uz rame sa istaknutim imenima domaćeg stripa.

Comics by Aleksandar Zolotić September 5-12th, Cultural Center Art Gallery Having graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, department for Illustration and Animation, Aleksandar Zolotić went on to illustrate children’s books by the leading Serbian publishers in this area, such as Kreativni Centar. Through his engagement with a London-based the illustration agency, he was given an opportunity to work with both American and English publishers. Owing to his flexible style, he was in a position to work on comic books and collaborate with the leading Serbian screen-writers, as well as video games publishers. In addition to this, he worked as a graphic illustrator for the successful Belgradebased games development studio, the Mad Head Games. The exhibition of comic art by Aleksandar Zolotić, Animanima presents an important contribution of this author to the national art scene and its wealth of quality comic artists. The exhibited panels from the comic Corporate Pandemonium (Besna kobila, 2014.), which was made in collaboration with the screenwriter Zoran Penevski, as well as panels made for the third and fifth comic album from the series Lines of Front, based on the screenplay by Pavle Zelić and Milan Jovanović. The exhibition aims to present Zolotić’s desire to use comics as a platform for a wider expression in terms of narrative, as well as a more immediate one, defined by the sequel format. The world of the Corporate Pandemonium originates from unpublished series of illustrations, reflecting the original intention to formulate a personal attitude to social mechanisms around us, by the means of original characters and an environment inspired by authors of the anti-utopian film and literary genre. In 2014, the album received an award from the ULUPUDS, as the best comic at the Belgrade Book Fair. The comic serial Lines of Front presented Zolotić with an opportunity to join the circle of the most prominent national comic artists.

Animanima Koncert: SCHIME TRIO Subota, 9.9.2017, Velika sala, 22:00 Schime Trio je bend koji izvodi autorski džez. Osnovan je 2015. godine u Beogradu, a čine ga Predrag Milutinović, bubnjevi, Boris Šainović, kontrabas i Luka Ignjatović, saksofon. Od samog početka sastav se fokusirao na izvođenje originalnih kompozicija saksofoniste benda, Luke Ignjatovića. Pored izvođenja originalne muzike, koja je pod uticajem savremenog i tradicionalnog džeza kao i klasične muzike, Schime Trio veliku pažnju posvećuje kolektivnoj improvizaciji i interakciji. Bend je izdao svoj prvi album Do You Really Wanna Play? 2016. godine za izdavačku kuću Metropolis Music Company. Nakon objavljivanja ovog izdanja stigao je poziv za nastup na Beogradskom džez festivalu (BJF). Schime Trio je na BJF-u privukao veliku pažnju domaćih, ali i stranih kritičara, i usledio je vrlo afirmativan prikaz nastupa u Downbeat Magazinu, najpoznatijem svetskom časopisu posvećenom džezu, bluzu i improvizovanoj muzici. Schime Trio priprema drugi album koji će se pojaviti u 2017 godini.
Animanima Concert: SCHIME TRIO Subota, 9.9.2017, Velika sala, 22:00 The Schime Trio is a band performing auteur jazz music. The band was founded in Belgrade in 2015, by Predrag Milutinović on the drums, Boris Šainović, double bass and Luka Ignjatović, saxophone. From the very start, the band focused on performing original pieces by their saxophone player, Luka Ignjatović. In addition to the original music influenced by modern and traditional jazz, as well as classical music, the Schime Trio pays a lot of attention to collective improvisation and interaction. In 2016, the band recorded their first album Do You Really Wanna Play? for the Metropolis Music Company. After the publication of this album, they received an invitation to perform at the Belgrade Jazz Festival (BJF), where they attracted the attention of the critics from the country and abroad, which was followed by an affirmative account of their festival performance in the Downbeat Magazine, the world’s most famous magazine dealing with jazz, blues and improvised music. The Schime Trio are working on their new album, which is expected for release in 2017.
