The Divine Assembly Design - Church Arena and Tower A popular Church organisation based out of Chennai wants a 20k seater arena to hold large prayer gatherings, holy mass and other cultural events that is expected to bring in a footfall of over 50k people daily. This would become India’s largest indoor arena.

6

The buidling has to hold 3 masses daily with a maximum footfall of 20k each session. The challenge here was to seamlessly move the crowd between sessions without conflicts.

Bowl Design The bowl had to be designed in a way that it can be used in varying capacities for different events. The C values used were 90 and varying capacities are achieved as shown below using sound curtains as separating barriers.

Urban Acupuncture Masterplan - Tianfu Olympic City Competition Chengdu in China is to invest Yn26.08 billion ($3.77 billion) in building Tianfu Olympic Sports City. The city will cover an area of 86 square kilometres. The aim is to create a large-scale sports complex integrating three sectors, a mountain sports area, aquatic sports area, and core area, which will meet the demands of hosting Olympic Games in the future.

2018/Team Project Populous Role: Masterplanning Assistant and Production with: Tiric Chang Andrew James Siddharth Soni

The core idea is to develop an evolutionary sports city that encourages the city to adopt sport excellence and make sporting a way of life – one that permeates into the culture and building a city that reconnects with the nature where the urban fabric is intertwined with the natural one.

Urban Accupuncture 1. The idea is the introduction of sporting infrastructure in the urban fabric at strategic locations throughout that city as a catalyst of growth. 2. These catalysts act as spheres of influence that create diversity and vibrancy in the neighbourhood.

2

3. These spheres as they grow creates corridors of value between them. These could be streets, roads or riverwalks that possess high economic values that make a city prosperous. 3

Low Poly Facade Facade Design - Motera Cricket Stadium Gujarat cricket stadium once completed would become the largest cricket stadium in the world. The stadium needed an iconic facade to wrap the pavilion block on the south. Even though the design was loved and approved by the client, it was later dropped as part of value engineering.

2017/Team Populous Role: Stadium Facade Design and Development with: Gavin Robotham Ron Van Sluijs

26

My key role was to develop a form based on the ideation developed by Gavin Robotham (CRAB Studio, UK). The idea was to break the monotonous repeatition of the structural V columns around the stadium to a folded poly surface.

Modelled Final Fold Pattern The triangulated facade forms a skin around the pavilion block creating interesting interstitial spaces and balconies. Large surfaces are placed to create an inside out experience along the concourse for people to appreciate the scale of the stadium. Jaalis/perforated screens are introduced to create a play of light and shadow in the stadium and to intorduce an essence of Indian architecture.

Colour Pools Wayfinding - Motera Cricket Stadium Wayfinding is an active process requiring mental engagement and attention to the environment that you may be trying to navigate. It is an integrated system of visual and information markers that help people find their way through an environment.

< Back to Projects Page

34

2018/Team Populous Role: Wayfinding Package & design with: Chris Hardie

My key role was to design and develop a wayfinding strategy and package for the motera cricket stadium with guidance from the expert in Brisbane. One important strategy we adopted was to divide the stadium into colour zones and have relating coloured tickets.

35

2019|Architecture Portfolio

Numbering Strategy Ticketing is the primary consideration for naming and numbering stadium entry gates. Use of numbers is legible for multi-language. Hierarchy –numbering to commence at spectator gates as this impacts the most people. Sequence is anti-clockwise so it is read left to right when facing gates. Egress gates are numbered.

36

Journey Diagrams Journey paths for key user groups to the precinct and stadium have been mapped to provide understanding input to the wayfinding requirements.

The outcome of the analysis assists in determining the location of the key decision making points and location of wayfinding signage.

37

2019|Architecture Portfolio

Subsequently wayfinding signages are conceptualised and further detailed out and submitted for fabrication as shown.

Timely Transformation Design Concept Competition - Future City Blocks Research by the World Health Organisation has shown that rapid and unplanned urbanization has contributed to congestion, pollution, loss of personal space and the time that is important for mental and social wellbeing. The competition is to provide ideas for an architectural vision of the future on how we would ensure that you are only 300 meters from health, wellness and happiness in the dense urban jungle.

< Back to Projects Page 2018/Individual Populous Role: Design Proposal and Visualization

The approach here is to make the city block transform to cater to the needs of the residents as required based on the need of the hour.

The future with ever growing population seeks spaces that can be multi-purposed and one that adapts to different needs of the city. The proposed idea is to transform Rajouri garden into a hub that repurposes itself to suit the time of the day while creating more enriching sports, wellness and events experience.

04 Design Slam Design Competition HKS held design slam competition globally to identify design talent and to welcome new innovative ideas. The brief was to create a design solution of any scale that solved a pressing social issue. Our intent was to spread happiness in urban slums.

2016/Team HKS Role: Design and Visualization with: Amit Kurien Ripudaman Singh

For long, urban planning authorities have ignored slums, however these slums are incredible engines for the cities growth and transformation. Despite their seeming chaos, slums are in fact energetic, efficient and purposeful. Slums are places of enterprise, creativity and frugal innovation known colloquially in Hindi as “JUGAAD”.

C# is a musical instrument made from those every day “useless” objects found on streets through Jugaad. A melodious solace to the lives of these slum dwellers. A symbol of hope ,a harbinger of happiness, C# would not only change the way lack luster slum spaces would behave but also inspire further works of “JUGAAD” urbanism .C# combines string, percussion and wind instruments harmoniously.
