transparency
Autumn/Winter 2018-19 will be a season of transparency. Transparency is the condition of being transparent. Having thoughts, feelings or motives that are easily perceived or detectable, is just one of the definitions of transparent you will see evoked throughout the season. A recent trip to Berlin, Germany was the inspiration for a large part of this seasons trends and aesthetics. Adolescents are becoming more and more confident in themselves, their personalities, their sexuality, their style, and their attitudes, today more than ever before. They are voicing their opinions, speaking up and becoming more transparent with their actions. They are unafraid to show the world exactly who they really are and what they really want. Juvenescence is the state of being youthful or of growing young. Everyday new advances in medicines and technology are prolonging our life spans. Longer lives along with the transparency among this new generation is causing a yearn for juvenescence. The technological advances today are bringing forth transparency, the easily noticed and understood, in all aspects of our lives. NASA is furthering its studies on life on other planets and how humans can and will adapt. Human obsession with the stellar space is intensifying. It won’t be long before humans sustain life in space and it will be common to look out your bedroom window and find yourself looking down at earth. This season will bring a need for comfort and luxury. Our lives are becoming
6
more stressful, busier, and faster paced. As our days get shorter and our lives get longer we are being transparent in our plush ideals, caring more about our own comforts and showing that somewhat ostentatiously at times. Harmony is an interweaving of different accounts into a single narrative. The more a culture is able to work together in harmony, the more things will become honest, open, and not secretive.
With harmony comes prosperity. As the
next few years continue to bring forth more advancements and transparency within our culture, my hope is that it leads to a more harmonious universe. Latitude is the freedom of action or choice. Latitude brings forth and fosters growth in creativity. This was shown throughout the city of Berlin. Every corner was filled with creativity and individuality. Society does not try to squelch the creativity, it promotes it. With laws recently eradicated prohibiting gay marriage and the constant tug of war between the pro-choice and pro-life supporters, the people of the United States have the most voice and freedom they ever have, yet are still yearning for more. Society has to allow the freedom as well or the creativity and individuality will never be shown. This is something that will never go away. Humans will continue to push the boundaries of what society says they can and cannot do.

juvenescence
Juvenescence is the state of being youthful or of growing young. Crop tops and ripped jeans, first loves and sweet perfumes. We get drunk off of the obsession to be young again. It’s an endless romance with the mind that we flirt with through ever-evolving fashion, and a little help from modern medicine. Denim is the most important staple. There’s a chic carelessness in throwing on your favorite pair of denim jeans. We wear our favorite pair down to mere threads. Paired with bold and bright colors, a nod to American Apparel’s signature bold colors in basic closet staples. They aim to keep the blood flowing and your skin a little tighter. On the contrary, there can be an effortlessly chic look in the thrown together looseness of a cotton t-shirt, or an oversized button down. As we grow older and our minds remain sixteen, our fashion statements of youth and carefree style keep us young.

plush
Plush originally refers to a thick, soft fabric, but it is most commonly used to define something as notably luxurious....There’s a comfort, a softness, an elegance, a sense of authority and a show of privilege. When looking at furs, silks, and cashmeres in whimsical pinks and deep blues, you can feel the comfort, the soft touch and the endless warmth and coziness. The movements and colors of the cloudlike fabrics evoke an elegance. Whereas, sometimes, they evoke boldness. Before modern times, only those of high stature can be seen in such garments. Throughout history, kings and Gods alike have lavished themselves in the likes of these “plush” ideals and defined what they are today.

stellar
Stellar can be used to describe something as astounding, but most importantly it means of or relating to the stars. The way the colors and shapes reflect off each other and the light, the way they move on the fabrics, and the way they are transparent within each other create the illusion in the mind that they are otherworldly. Natural phenomenon’s such as the aurora borealis are a reflection of light and movement, the sun the moons and the stars create movement of color and light in our universe. Clothes can capture that essence and take our mind to something otherworldly and unknown.

harmony
Harmony is achieved with the pleasing combination or arrangement of different things. In this case, different tones of colors and fabrics. A peace and ease comes with the styling and construction of a minimalistic wardrobe. The idea of something so simple making such a statement is not understood by many. A lot of times “fashion” is over done, loud and attention drawing. Minimalism usually takes on the “less is more” approach. When styled appropriately, tonal colors such as, nudes, pinks and soft pastels, can possess a sense of tranquility without bore in their simple beauty. Construction could have similar straight cuts and seamless hems, with a firm structure that keeps shape or it could be loose and fall naturally and effortlessly together in harmony. Shades of simple colors, and easy fabrics should be styled all by themselves. Harmony in clothing is something so simple and classic, and is easier to obtain without overthinking.

latitude
Latitude is the freedom of action or choice. Latitude brings forth and fosters growth in creativity. This was shown throughout the city of Berlin, Germany. Every corner was filled with creativity and individuality. Society does not try to squelch the creativity, it promotes it. The people of berlin are free, modern, uninhibited, cultured, and most importantly, confidently themselves. There are so many people, so much fashion, individuality, creativity, culture, sounds, smells, experiences, and colors. The buildings all have a way of fitting together – all exhibiting classic European architecture along with modern features, yet not at all in the same way. Each one boasts its own beautifully colored finishes, often decorated by street artists. Every part of the city – the people, the shops, the style, the food, the music – every single piece of the puzzle had a special feature that gave it character and distinctiveness. But every piece fit together perfectly, as though everyone knew how to make Berlin, Berlin. Everyone seemed to understand the aesthetic and knew exactly to make it uniquely their own. The entire city creates a community of acceptance. Being in Berlin with an open-ness; open to not only accept who you are, but be proud of and show who you are. Inevitably this leads one to feel more open minded, understanding each and every person a little better and embracing eachother’s uniqueness.
