Editor’s Letter
H
ello and a big welcome to the October issue of Anne Louise. The transition from Lush Life to Anne Louise seems to be going well. I have spent the last month getting this issue ready for print, not easy as there is only myself working on the magazine with a couple of feature writers who bring you their expert advice and knowledge. The magazine is a labour of love and worth all the hard work and effort, especially when readers and distributors tell me how much they love the magazine and are eagerly awaiting the next issue. I love getting feedback about the features and magazine in general as it helps me know what you the readers want in your very own free local glossy. Please join the Anne Louise Facebook page and keep up to date on magazine news as well as products and services, I often find some gorgeous sale products and post them on the wall. I hope that the magazine can develop into something truly special and with your help I can. The news of Anne Louise magazine is spreading, even as far as Germany and Switzerland with fans asking if I can post copies to them! And I thought the magazine making it to Scotland was amazing! I would like to take the opportunity to thank my wonderful advertisers who have shown their continued support from the very first issue, without them I would not be able to publish this magazine. There are so many businesses out there who need help staying open to provide you brilliant services and products, if you like them spread the news and help our community stay alive.

beauty enhanced Enhance Beauty in Grantham treated HR assistant, Kelly Mayo to an afternoon of beauty treats to pamper her during her final month of pregnancy 35 Brook St | Grantham | Tel: 01476 574994
Pregnancy is the perfect time to take the weight of your feet and allow yourself some quality ‘me time’! Research shows that it is not good to be stressed whilst pregnant, so what a great excuse to visit your local beauty salon and let the experts pamper and prepare you for the months ahead! During pregnancy skin can change from one extreme to the other. This is mainly due to hormonal change, and the good news is that this normally settles down after delivery. In the meantime there are some beauty treatments you can try to achieve the ‘glowing’ skin your pregnancy deserves. Always book yourself in for a personalised skin analysis and evaluation prior to any treatment. Most salons will offer this as a complimentary service. Beauty therapists are there to give their expert advice based on years of experience. If your skin is ‘playing up’ it can cause unnecessary stress so let your therapist advise you on the appropriate skin care and techniques to soothe your skin and help restore it to a balanced more radiant look.
Facials One of our most popular treatments for expectant mums is our Gatineau ‘Lightening and Brightening facials’ say Jodie (facialist at Enhance.) Your skin changes at every stage of pregnancy, which can be frustrating. This particular facial focuses on evening out the tone of the skin and uses essential oils and plant extracts to help soothe and de-stress. Starting off with a deep cleanse to the shoulders, neck and face, a deep exfoliation is then followed by a relaxing and soothing massage to erase any tension and stress. The deep cleansing element of these facials helps to minimise breakouts and calm the skin. A brightening mask is then applied to help even the tone of the skin, eliminate toxins and free up any blockages to the pores. Masks are a great solution for mums to be. Most salons will have professional masks to treat a wide range of skin conditions.
“
I would struggle to have a massage so far ahead in my pregnancy, so this facial was a fabulous way for me to relax and benefit from a neck, shoulder and scalp massage says Kelly. Jodie had me tilted up slightly for my facial, so that I didn’t have to lay flat. I really enjoyed the subtle aroma of the oils and creams. My skin felt nourished and so fresh and alive. It was a great combination of relaxation coupled with some great advice. Jodie gave me some skin care samples to try which was great and a

prescription of everything that she had talked about so I would have my own record!
Manicure/Pedicure
A luxury manicure and pedicure are real treat to pamper and revitalise tired feet and hands. You can find during pregnancy your nails can grow faster so therefore they may need a little more attention. In the later stages of pregnancy it can become really difficult to reach your toes and keep them conditioned and looking great.
Jodie’s top tips check list :
It really was a treat to have my toes painted professionally. As the weather is getting warmer I’m showing my feet off more. It will be great to show off my beautiful toes. Jodie put a few gems on the polish to give me a bit of glamour too!
Eyelash Extensions
As a finishing touch and to keep Kelly looking amazing through the birth, Lorna applied some Jinny lash eyelash extensions. These semi permanent lashes can last up to three months. They do require top up sessions in between, but will define and enhance Kelly’s eyes without the additional need of mascara or eye shadow.

INA Crystals White Gold Glowface Wash, £22 The ‘must have’ cleanser - a rich, creamy formulation that revitalises, smooths out and gently polishes the skin giving instant glowing results. The natural ground loofah and liquid crystals deep cleanses, whilst drawing out and removing impurities and toxins deep within the pores. I love this cleanser! It smells like a beauty salon, which instantly makes you feel as though you are treating your skin. The texture and feel of it against your skin is comforting and you are not left with a tight dry feeling. My skin looked and felt softer, smoother, more moisturised, and more cleaner - glowing and less blotchy.

Lady Million, £33 (30ml) The fragrance is vibrant, sensual, fresh, floral and woody, like the nectar of voluptuous flowers. Powerfully seductive, the sparkle of bitter orange with a touch of raspberry is revealed in the first breath. A burst of neroli follows, smooth and bright. The combination of Arabian jasmine underlined by gardenia is powerful yet subtle and the notes of patchouli and honey are addictive and oh so tempting! The heady note of amber spreads to become all enveloping, like a play of light on a diamond. Sensual, feminine and curved, it sits comfortably in the hand, sprays easily and is quite simply an irresistible precious object. www.pacorabanne.com

Escape to: Namibia Namibia in Southern Africa has everything to offer for that once in a lifetime holiday. It boasts wild seascapes, arid deserts, dramatic mountains and an abundance of wildlife. Perhaps you are planning a romantic honeymoon, or maybe a leisurely and slightly unusual holiday with the family...Either way, you need look no further than to Namibia, the home of a number of exceptionally stunning and luxurious properties.
Where to stay Mowani Mountain Camp is the ultimate luxury getaway, consisting of twelve magnificent tents. Each with their own en suite facilities and tastefully decorated with a distinct African flavour, the tents offer individual panoramic views of the captivating Damaraland setting. For those who need a complete time-out, there could be nothing better than sipping on a refreshing cocktail in the pool whilst admiring the breathtaking views and enjoying the serenity of the lodge. For those outdoor enthusiasts, what better than awakening at dawn for a drive to the Aba Huab River in search of desert-adapted elephant? And seeing as Mowani lies on the site of one of the most important concentrations of rock art in Africa, how could you possibly resist a leisurely afternoon excursion to see the rock paintings and engravings at Twyfelfontain? Fear not if you would prefer to stay at camp and enjoy an evening of good music and dining (or even a cheeky glimpse at what the TV has on offer) because Mowani’s private lounge is fully equipped with a music centre and satellite TV, complimented by private dining and butler service. www.mowani.com

Mowani Mountain camp
Onguma Plains – The Fort Wildlife, birdlife, elegant furnishings, the best sunsets in Namibia and uncompromised luxury – leaves you drooling doesn’t it? Onguma Plains – The Fort sits on Onguma Game Reserve, adjacent to Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s major wildlife sanctuaries with close to 114 species of mammal and equally abundant birdlife. The stylishly decorated Fort faces the beautiful vastness of the Etosha Pan and gently embraces guests within its colossal, cool, raw walls. The main complex has elaborate antique African doors and elegant furnishings, combining classic African style with a touch of Moroccan and Indian influences. But it gets better... There are eleven completely private mini-suites, one maxi-suite and a Fort suite – the latter nestled in the spectacular twelve meter high main tower. Cool off in the outdoor pool after an afternoon game drive and watch the sunset, accompanied by evening birdsong and lion, zebra and antelope frolicking on your doorstep. www.onguma.com
Okahirongo Elephant Lodge
Words By Katie Hamilton
As the name suggests, Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is frequented by the intriguing desert-adapted elephant – the tracking of which is a highlight here. The Lodge is situated on the banks of the Hoarusib River, an area often described as one of the truly wild areas of Namibia – featuring not only a beautiful mountain landscape but also a vast stretch of land, rugged and tranquil, and perfect for game viewing. There are seven luxury double cottages, each with its own unique style and atmosphere but decorated in a rich and sensuous fusion of ochre, honey and sand colours, fitting in perfectly with the serene natural environment. Each cottage is kitted out with a large en-suite bathroom and personal sun beds overlooking the river. A domed entrance gives access to the open-air buildings, which are linked by wooden walkways and come together to meet at a rustic deck and inviting infinity pool. With such welcoming cottages you may find it unnecessary to venture further than your private gazebo but for the more adventurous sort there awaits a plethora of outdoor activities including game drives, hiking, bird watching, elephant tracking and of course, a candle light dinner beneath the starry Namibian sky after a good days game viewing. www.okahirongolodge.com

foundation! Our new resident makeup expert, Lisa Precious, reveals how to achieve perfect foundation
1
Only cover areas that need to be covered, there’s no need to cover your whole face. Foundation looks more natural if you can see some of your natural skin.
2 3
4
Blend downwards for a more even finish using a foundation brush or even your fingers, never use a sponge as they soak up too much product. Always choose a tone just ever so slightly darker than your natural skin tone for a healthier looking complexion. I find that most skins suit a more yellow toned foundation. When shopping for a foundation it definitely pays to spend a bit more and always ask the cosmetic consultants which are their best selling shades then ask them to match you up to the right coverage and shade.
Best Buys Some of the best foundations.... Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation £32.50 Fantastic, very quick and easy to use, medium coverage and makes the skin look flawless. The colour light beige suits most, go for medium beige if you have a tan. Chanel Pro lumiere Professional Finish Make Up SPF 15 £31.00 This is the foundation that I use on my clients and it suits both young and older skins. It is rich in light reflecting pigments and leaves the skin looking flawless whilst recreating the smoothing effect of light, giving a luminous result. Diorskin Forever Compact Flawless Extreme Wear Make Up £35.00 I simply cannot leave out my secret passion ‘ The Powder Foundation‘. It does everything in one and is perfect, if like me you are a busy Mum or just need to be able to get ready fast! This foundation is a waterproof formula that lasts and looks amazing, it delivers a healthy glow, is non drying due to it’s hydra gel system which regulates moisture to the skin and you can easily take it with you for touch ups and travelling. Try light beige for paler skins and medium beige for slightly darker skin tones.
Star Buy! Clinique Perfectly Real Make Up Foundation £20.00 Lovely lightweight feel but offers serious coverage whilst still looking totally natural. Even manages to cover scars and acne.
Lisa is available for weddings, special occasions and makeup lessons, for more information visit www.lisaprecious.co.uk, email lisa@lisaprecious.co.uk or call 01636 611987

“fame side of things

“
We caught up with Eliza Doolittle as she travels promoting her debut album Interview LINSEY ROBINSON Photographs Andrew Whitton Congratulations on the successful release of ‘Pack up’. How do you go about writing a song, do you write the lyrics first then write the melody to fit? I actually write melody 1st or melody and lyrics together. But can change depending on how I’m working. Sometimes I write on the piano so will work with chords as well. Or maybe I’ll go into the studio and the producer I’m working with will have a track half made already so I work on that. But I’m quite melody driven.
You got signed when you was 16, what’s been happening since then and the release of ‘Pack up’? I got signed to a publishing deal when I was 16 for my writing but got a record contract about 2 years ago. The album was practically done but not in time for the summer of 2009 and the tracks are very summery so we waited for 2010. Its been an amazing year, where I have released my first album, performed at loads of festivals, gone on tour with other artists, and lots of travelling. There is still loads more touring and other exciting things to come this year !
Lots of kids go through various possible careers, have you always know you wanted to be a singer? Yeah, apart from when i was 5 and wanted to be a princess like snow white ! Always loved singing, in the car, in school plays, loved watching my favourite artists and bands on music TV ! When I told my mum when I was younger that it was what I wanted to do she just told me to start writing and I did.
What’s life like behind the scenes, is there bits of the music industry you don’t like?
which I understand seeing as there are so many bands and artists out there. But it would be nice if people were more open. I’m also very weary of the fame side of things. I love making music and I understand that to be able to keep making records and make a living out of it I have to have recognition and fame is something that I may have to deal with.
How would you describe your music style? Pop. Then it can be so many things! I don’t think there is a particular genre. Just Doolittle ! I love the idea of bringing back what was called Popular music in the 50s and 60s. Just anything that was popular! I feel like the best music doesn’t have a genre, the reason we like what we like is because we haven’t heard anything quite like it before, right? Well, I do !
What influenced you in creating your music style? I don’t really know, just experimenting and seeing what happened. It just came out one day and I loved that I’d never really heard anything quite like it.
What has been the highlight of your music career so far? Definitely the release of my 1st album. It’s something I had worked really hard towards my whole life and no matter what the outcome I was incredibly satisfied with the introduction of Doolittle to the world. Luckily it has been received well which makes it a bonus !
Where would be your dream gig? On top of an open top double decker bus driving round all of the best sights and attractions of London. I saw Madness do that in Camden and it was such a great atmosphere !
Yeah, you have to work really hard and gain a lot of success before half the industry gives you a chance october 2010 anne louise | 19
You have your first headline tour in October, which looks quite full. Is it daunting all the travel and being up on stage so many times in such a short space? How do you look after your voice? I am really looking forward to it, I can think of nothing better than performing to a room that have come especially to hear me! I have played so many gigs and most of them, from when I was starting, have been to a less than half empty room so I am incredibly excited to have had some recognition and be able to sing my heart out to some lovely people! To look after my voice I try and do vocal warm ups but I am a bit crap at keeping those up. I am working on it though.
What is your typical day? At the moment I’m lucky enough to not have a typical day, its just always very busy ! That’s one of the things i love about my job. There’s always a different challenge each day, whether it’s studio, live, photoshoots, interviews, promo... I like the diversity!
What do you do to de-stress and relax? Nothing really, I need tips for that actually! I am starting to try and work out a way to bring some creativity into my promo schedule so that it’s not all promotion but also writing too. Still working on it though. It’s hard to fit it in! Got to make time though.
What music is on your ipod? At the moment, I’m listening to The Drums and Janelle Monae and CeeLo Green but my ipod ranges from Paul Simon to Stevie Wonder to Jeff Buckley to Steely Dan to red hot chillies to D’angelo.
Who do you go to if you need cheering up? I always go to my Mum. She’s great for that. She always knows what to say.
How do you fit friends and relationships around your music career? Skype!
What’s the best piece of advice you have been given? Start writing music, from my Mum when I was 12. I told her I wanted to be a singer and she said “Writing is where the money is” so i listened but also loved the idea of my thoughts and beliefs being in my music and having that involvement.
What is your weakness when it comes to shopping? Nike high tops and Short shorts.
Is there a beauty product you can’t live without? Eyeliner. My fave is mac ...it’s a little pot with a brush. I love Dermalogica cleansers and creams too.
What’s the best place to shop for bargains or amazing finds in London? Camden and Brick lane! They have vintage shops, markets everything. I love mixing up vintage with high street and then saving up for a bit of designer doesn’t hurt either!
I read somewhere you are a vegetarian, being a vegetarian myself I often find it difficult making people understand that lots of everyday foodstuffs contain animal byproducts, Do you find it difficult especially when you are on tour? I was brought up a vegetarian so it wasn’t a choice! I don’t mind the odd bit of gravy or whatever so I’m not madly fussy. Just don’t like the texture of meat.
Do you have any pets? I used to have cats but now my Mum got a puppy called Hogan so I look after him sometimes.
What should we expect next from Eliza? Lots of gigs! My 1st UK headline tour which I’m so excited about and then supporting Paloma Faith! I have another single coming out in October, called Rollerblades.
Tell us one thing most people don’t know about you…. I love Candycorn... • Eliza will be on tour throught the UK in October, for more information visit www.elizadoolittle.com

HOROSCOPES Astrologer Jason Caddy brings you your monthly horoscopes
Aries
Taurus
Gemini
With the sun in your relationship zone you could come up against the odd brick wall in your dealings with those people you most value. The frustration that will result is a given, but you would fare so much better if you kept your temper in check and resisted any form of reprisal. Venus and your ruler Mars in Scorpio strike up your sexual side and you’ll radiate oodles of charisma.
Someone at work takes the biscuit and it may fall on your sturdy shoulders to confront a grievance on behalf of your beleaguered colleagues. Your strength of character is certainly being bolstered by a caring cosmos this month. It’s what is happening closer to home that will arrest your attention as the month ebbs away and the sun hits Scorpio. Make time for the one you love.
Fun isn’t really ever far away when you’re around, but this side of your nature is desperate to be noticed this month. And who is to say that this energy needs to be frittered away on mindless pursuits? You are being given the chance to utilise your creativity in a constructive/commercial way, so think twice before blowing it.

21 Mar - 21 April
Cancer
22 June - 23 July All of the traditional associations with your sign, like home and family, rear up in your chart this month. Perhaps you are a Cancerian with an axe to grind? Wouldn’t you prefer a resolution? Being less defensive is a good starting point for a showdown. Fun isn’t far away for you and the Scorpio sun lifts the weight off the top of the Pressure Cooker that has been your life.
22 April - 21 May
21 May- 20 June
Leo
Virgo
Despite your naturally sunny disposition, you can be incredibly stubborn and unforgiving when your pride is dented. A friend or sibling may be at fault in your eyes, but have you told them how you are feeling, or are you floating in isolation in your bubble of pride? All you have to do is say the word and any tensions will be consigned to the folder marked Better
The cash strapped among you may very well receive a boost this month. Both the sun (energy) and Mercury (persuasion) are cheerleading for your sign in this area of your chart, so harness this excellent combined energy. The sun then shifts your attention to all that is going on in your neighbourhood. Look out for invitations to housewarmings/house parties.
24 Oct - 23 Nov
23 Nov - 22 Dec
Libra
Scorpio
Vim and vigour are bursting from you, Libra. Why? The sun is back in your sign for its annual stay. Involve yourself socially at every opportunity and lap up all attention, reconnect with close family and friends and shine some of your general good cheer and warmth into their lives. Invest the same level of interest into finances towards the end of the month.
There’s every possibility you’ll want to shrink from responsibility and shut the door on the world until the sun reaches your sign. Deal with feelings of solitude the best way you can, but also see it as a period of calm before the storm as you are going to be in demand, no two ways about it. You can reasonably expect fun times ahead with family and friends.
Friends are important to you but your head may be turned by an acquaintance, the likes of which doesn’t pop up every day. Watch that you don’t run the risk of leaving your old friends out in the cold should they ask for support, distraction or shelter from the stormy weather in their own lives. Consistency is the name of the game.
Capricorn
Aquarius
Pisces
It’s that time of year when you begin to come into your own. The sun is riding high in your chart in the zone that excites you most, that of career, ambition and social standing. The cosmos wants to help you help yourself, so now is the time to push forward with that promotion, apply for a new job, head up group projects, or anything in a similar vein, that showcases your innate leadership ability.
The beginning and middle parts of this month are a prelude for what the last week of the month will yield. Do you feel that you have become almost invisible of late? Overlooked at work and at home? The people that matter never stopped being concerned for your welfare, but perhaps you were passed by at work. This scenario is about to be turned on its head so get ready to shine.
The cosmos is a great leveller and all signs get their fair share of benevolence. This month, it’s your turn as the sole beneficiary of some amazing energy. Both your professional and personal magnetism are running at full pelt, thanks to Venus in Scorpio, and you’d be wise if you ran with this and used it to your full advantage.
