Are you busier now than you have ever been? In this time of hectic schedules, inflated prices, instant world news and constant cell phone communication, are you overwhelmed? More peaceful living is possible when you commit to small changes. Here are a few tips you can incorporate in your daily activities. Stick to your priorities. If changes must be made, realize that being flexible does not spell defeat. Make decisions based on your core values and goals, such as family, prosperity, education, authenticity, compassion or productivity. Practice deep breathing several times a day. Pick a time when you can make this a habit: stopping at red lights, riding an elevator or before each meal. Teach your children to do it with you; even the young ones catch on quickly. One simple variation is to breathe in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth. Stretches, done as little as five minutes during your morning and bedtime routines, and exercise, as simple as walking extra steps, increase circulation, metabolism and flexibility plus decrease stress. Take time for religious practices. Belief in God provides a place of stable support where gratitude is expressed, and forgiveness is encouraged. Get seven to nine hours of sleep; eat healthy and avoid processed foods. Drink plenty of water. Speak positive words to yourself and others. Avoid negative people and circumstances. Find a Positive Pact Buddy™, a friend or family member of your choice, who agrees to support your positive approach to challenging times. This article is not intended as medical advice. Talk with your healthcare team about your individual health and concerns.

Why is the Alzheimer’s Association Important to me and You? Did you know that only 30% of people who reach age 65 will not require long-term-care?
It’s hard to believe, but the 2024 Tennessee Alzheimer’s statistics reveal some staggering figures: approximately 129,200 individuals aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s. This situation is supported by 369,000 caregivers who provide nearly 499 million hours of unpaid care, valued at an astonishing $7.8 billion. On a national scale, nearly 7 million American seniors are affected by this disease. Are you a caregiver? Do you know a caregiver? Janice Williams, RN and author of “Caregiving and Understanding Respite” is a must to read.
The Alzheimer’s Association is a non-profit organization at the forefront of the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia, spearheading efforts in care, support, research, and advocacy. The Association is available 24/7 at their Free Helpline (800) 272-3900 and online at alz.org I am proud to serve as a community educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, driven by a deeply personal connection to this cause. My grandmother battled the disease for about a decade. She would lovingly rub my hand and call me “pretty girl,” as she no longer recognized me. My aunt and her husband stepped up to care for her during that time, showcasing the dedication and love that family can provide.
This brings me to an important question: Who will care for you as you age? If you find yourself among the 70% of people who will need long-term- care, how do you envision that chapter of your life? Do you want to feel like a burden to your loved ones? Who will be there to support them if or when the time comes? Have you taken a moment to reflect on these concerns? Your thoughts and plans matter now more than ever.
Now is the time to focus on long-term-care for yourself and/or a loved one. Visit alz.org/crf and alz.org/education for a range of courses & to request a community educator. Visit alz.org/walk - Find A Team, and join the Women Financial Power team as we walk to end Alzheimer’s. At the age of 16, Ira L. Sandridge, a native of Coldwater, Mississippi discovered his love for horses. Since then, he has faced numerous challenges while competing in horse shows all over the country.
1962 was a pivotal year for Ira L. Sandridge. He purchased his first horse and named him “Harold.” It was also the year that Sandridge Stables was established; the first and only horse stable in Coldwater, Mississippi. You could say the rest is history. Ira’s life is centered around his passion and love for horses. His workday begins early each day around 6:30 a.m. to ensure he completes his chores. These chores include, breeding, feeding, grooming, maintaining the stables, and other horse training duties. In order to make sure that the horses are well, he checks each stable to ensure that none of the horses are lying down.
SANDRIDGE STABLES
Ira is a highly skilled Horseman and Farrier; he describes his relationship with horses as excellent. Because of his bond and relationship with horses, he is known as a “Horse Whisperer.” He has over 60 years of experience managing, judging, training, riding and shoeing horses. He’s also a national gaited horse exhibitor. Ira has competed in Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Missouri and Oklahoma, to name just a few.
Ira’s son and grandson works as assistants at Sandridge Stables.
AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Ira has participated in thousands of local shows since the 80’s. . 1989 – 2002: The Southern Amateur Saddle Club Association (SASCA) 2001 – Present: North East Central Arkansas Association (NECA)
2001- Present: Arkansas State Championship Horse Show 1995 – Present: Tri-Lakes Western Horse Show Association 1995 - Present: State of Mississippi Horse Championship Horse Show (SOMHSA)
He is the recipient of numerous Awards: Arkansas State Championship Horse Show; Won Men’s Gaited Champion 3 times, placed in top five (5) 16 times, and placed in top ten five (5) times. Light Shod Gaited: Placed in top five (5) four times (4) and Heavy Shod Gaited; placed in top five (5) times, including Reserve Champion one (1) time (2024) State of Mississippi Horse Show – Participated in numerous classes and winning High Point Champion in Adult Gaited Division three (3) times. He also participated in the Racking Horse Fall Celebration in Decatur, AL numerous times. Ira also serves as a judge and horse exhibitor at horse shows in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, TN.
COMPETING, WINNING AND TRAINING
Ira is not only a horse trainer; but he’s a competitor that loves to win. He works hard to get a good performance from his horses. It’s a day-to-day grind; but it’s worth it in order to get a good ride. He rides every week on Fridays and Saturdays at various venues.
Shoeing, training and horse shows are most important to Ira, but he admits that competing at horse shows is what he loves most about being a horseman. He enjoys the wins, but he knows that competing is a challenge.
Horse riding is adventurous and exciting for Ira. His adrenaline increases when riding horses, because it’s exciting to the people. Everyone is cheering him on and calling out his number. In 1989 he joined Capleville Saddle Club, which he rode with for several years. Thereafter, he began riding with Tri Lake Saddle Club, and NECA where he presently rides. He also served as the president of Mid South Association in 1999.
GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IRA
The Cover: What was the name of your favorite horse? My favorite horse was named Mickey; and “Mickey” taught me the most. The Cover: How often do you groom your horses? Everyday before I ride.
The Cover: What type of Horses do you train primarily? Tennessee Walkers and Gaited Horses The Cover: What advice would you offer someone who was making this a career choice? To be successful requires knowledge, dedication and hard work. It is fun and exciting if you work hard and stick with it. The Cover: What is a common misconception that people have about what you do? Some people think that it is cruel for horses to be on pads (meaning their shoes). The Cover: What are your goals/dreams for the future? To continue being a successful Horseman, and one day; I hope to ride in the World Championship Walking Horse Celebration. The Cover: What else should people know about taking care of horses?
Practical training is essential, which includes safety guidelines and rules, because a horse’s weight can range from 800 to 1,200 lbs. They must get to know the horses, and not be afraid of them. They will need veterinarian skills for proper health care. They will also need to know that all horses have different personalities. The Cover: If you could ride with any trainer in the world, who would it be and why?
Jimmy McConner, because he is one of the top trainers. The Cover: What’s the dumbest horse-related thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?
Buying a horse that was very underweight; but I was proud of how well he performed in the end. The Cover: What’s next for Ira, is retirement in the plan? How do others contact you for service?
I don’t see myself retiring from my dream job anytime soon. However; in the meantime, my future plans include making operational changes at Sandridge Stables. I also want to write a book, create a documentary, or produce a TV Series about being a Horseman. My Contact number is 662-209-7545

AGELESS BEAUTY
Catherine Doggett-Hernandez
Age: 74
The Cover: Catherine Doggett Hernandez is a 74-year-old ageless beauty. We sat down with Catherine to ask if she would share some of her beauty secrets. I drink 8 glasses of water each day to keep my body and skin hydrated. I never go to bed wearing makeup. I wash my face at night and apply a night cream to moisturize. Each morning, after washing my face, before applying any makeup, I use a daytime moisturizer. Rest is a must; my body requires 7 to 8 hours of sleep; However, at times when I have a lot on my mind and don’t get my required beauty rest, I will take a power nap. I need my beauty sleep in order to look my best. I’m committed to a healthy diet, which includes fruits and vegetables. I exercise five days a week, 2-1/2 hours per day. This includes walking, which helps keep my body fit and toned.
