How could the potencial of degraded areas under viaducts be used to improve the everyday life of homeless people and prepare their reintegration into society? The master thesis deals with „Interspaces“ in the urban public areas as well as in the society of São Paulo. It focuses both on the potencials of degraded spaces under viaducts and on the difficulties of homelessness in the city centre. The intention is to connect the to subjects and combine them in a design project that prepares a social reintegration of homeless people into society and improves their current situation. An important issue was to analize the problems, demands and needs of the homeless as well as of the local population and assimilate them into the design process. Furthermore, it was intended to integrate the project into the existing urban environment. The reasearch aimed to test to what extend urban and architectural methods could encourage a dialog between two different social classes in alternative urban spaces.
ANALISIS
HOMELESSNESS
During a field study in May and June 2015 I did a large investigation on homelessness and degraded areas under viaducts in São Paulo including visitations in different social institutions like the homeless movement „MNPR-SP“, the homeless hostel „Oficina Boracea“ and the social project „Garrido Boxe“ as well as interviews with homeless people in the streets of the centre.

VIADUCTS The research on degraded areas under viaducts showed that almost 50% have no or inadequate use and possess potencial for urban interventions. During the field study I noticed a lot of occupations in these areas and tried to understand the homeless appropriation of space as well as the way of building shelter. Due to the analisis I catalouged the collected material and devided them into construction and personal materials. They were an important point during the design process.

HEALTHCARE CENTER ZANZIBAR
Main Design Project | HafenCity University Hamburg Master | 1st Semester | 2014 Group Work
The Healthcare Centre, located in a rural area in the North of Zanzibar, Africa, was developed together with an NGO (Non-governmental Organization) with the purpose of the project‘s realization. The present work gained the third price out of fourteen. Main issue of the projects development lay on the handling with climatic conditions of the subtropics as well as the construction with local material and techniques. Intention was to design a cheap architecture executable by local workers. After an intensive reasearch, materials like wood, brick and corrugated iron seemed to be most adequate. Also designing in a different cultural background, which is characterized especially by the Islam and its traditions, challenged the development of utilization arrangements and forms of architecture. For instance, the strict seperation of rooms for men and women was fundamental as well as the planning of prayer rooms. The present proposal convinced the jury mainly with its roof and brick elements. Due to a simple rotation and their dislocated middle point they offer a varity of different arrangements. SESC
FRANCA Realization Competition 2012 Triptyque Arquitetura, São Paulo, Brazil
The purpose of the realization competition „SESC Franca“ was to design a new Education-, Culture- and Sports Centre in Franca, located in the state of São Paulo. The approximate area of 16.000m² is situated on a steep hillside situation. SESC [Serviço Social do Comércio] is an association of shareholders that build these Centres to make educational, cultural and leisure activities acessible for the socially weak classes of brazilian society. The project was developed in an international team and in cooperation with another office. I participated in the process from the start, became acquainted with the competition regulations and compiled a summary of the utilization program and conditions. Due to this task I learned a lot about brazilian norms and laws. Furthermore, I was responsible for the conceptual development, floor planning and physical model studies. Regularly, the team leaders called for meetings where the group discussed the further steps of the project.
BANCA LARGO DA BATATA SÃO PAULO
Realization Competition 2012 Triptyque Arquitetura, São Paulo, Brazil
On the short, national realization competition for a new newspaper kiosk „Banca Nova no Largo da Batata“ in São Paulo I worked individually under the constructions of one of the office associates. After studying the competition regulations we developed conceptual ideas that I continued in the further process and checked them in order to the competition‘s requirements. Besides, I designed the floor plan, section, views and the constructional concept. The process time amounted four weeks. In the final phase, two more architects participated to complete the submission plans and make visualizations. The project was selected under the Top 15 out of 600 submitted works.
