FABRIZIO SARTI aka Sea has already started his creative painting and his distinctive characters on the walls of his hometown - Varese, and nurturing his passion for Graffiti and Writing since the 90's. In 2000 his launch of project SeaCreative has opened up a number of artisitc collaborations both in Italy and Europe. And today he lives and works in Milan.
ELENA KALIS was originally born in Moscow, but she has spent her past ten years on a small island in the Bahamas with her husband and two children. With fine art education background, she has started doing some underwater projects with her children and friends in Bahamas. The awe-inspiring images have been published in magazines and are chosen for books and CD covers.
AURORA BALDESSIN is graduated in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, majored in Japanese studies, with a visceral passion for travelling. Working, using and mixing foreign languages is my territory - I love trespassing boundaries of communication. Today I am here, tomorrow..who knows?! With coffee, notebook, and music I feel at ease everywhere. I am always on the lookout for something new and fresh, unexplored cultures and lands of extremes.
KK WONG is ambitious to promote photography to a wide range of audience by using the simplest photograph equipment. He is also a photography teacher himself, who employs a vivid teaching method. His works arranges various topics and styles, while he particular enjoys fast-speed, landscape and stage photography.
GERALDINE WHARRY is a French and American fashion designer, raised in Paris by way of New York. After living for the last 11 years in New York and Los Angeles, she now works in London as a trend forecaster for Wgsn. When she’s not designing and consulting, she’s fine-tuning her skills as a street wanderer, people watcher and blogger.
JUNE HO was attracted by metaphysics since small. After years following different experts, she had specialised in Zi Wei Dou Shu and Feng Shui. More than ten years ago, she moved to US and started to practise numerology with influence from Chinese metaphysics. A certificate of recognition from the US Government was awarded to June for her innovative identity code reading, which accurately tell one’s character and fortune. 05

It is irrepressible and can reduce mountains to pebbles or give life to barren land. Water, like people, has different faces. It can be drifted to wherever the currents and tides take them to, so much so like the ones easily influenced by others. Or it can run
to where it needs to go, filling all the needs it finds, so much so like the enlightened one finding where to help to fulfill their life. Water is the lifeblood of our world and of every living thing. It is pure, clean, a source of spirit lifting the world to new heights, yet it can be harsh, deadly, taking life indiscriminately. The unparalleled beauty of water is in the many ways it takes on a life of its own

Last year during one of my late-night searches for inspiring artists, I discovered underwater photographer Elena Kalis. Captivated by her series “Alice underwater”, I couldn’t help but wonder how she came to create images so poetic and intriguing. Months later, I’m now speaking with Elena on Skype, from my desk in rainy London. She’s at home in the Bahamas, on an island so distant and beautiful, that I can’t help but feel she is not just retelling a tale, she’s living in one.
What inspires you? The ocean is my main daily inspiration. It’s vast and multifaceted: bright, sunny and fun. Yet it has another side which symbolizes darkness, even death. The ocean is forever changing and that’s the biggest inspiration for me. Which artists have played a role in your art? Your work seems to encompass different disciplines: music, painting, ballet. Paul Gauguin is one of my biggest inspirations, especially his use of colour. I’m also inspired by photographers, especially Connie Imboden. But my ideas come from everyday life, they can occur in a fleeting moment. In fact we live in a world so overwhelmed with images that, for some projects, I don’t even look at images to avoid being influenced. Do you see yourself as a storyteller because I see a lot of poetry in your work? I do but I don’t like to retell stories literally. I prefer ambiguities and expressing a feeling. You’d be surprised at the interpretations people have made of “Alice underwater”. That’s what I like: the viewers can make their own story. Lewis Carroll didn’t
have any specific public in mind. It just came from his heart and that’s why it speaks to people. I noticed in your photos the fabrics, objects and colours are carefully picked. The props and costumes are very important. Especially the colours because underwater you have a lot of blues so I choose reds, oranges and yellows that will stand out. White always looks very good underwater. I also tend to use fluid fabrics, which look gorgeous, especially when the sunshine strikes them. It creates a dramatic effect which fascinates me. What is your background and how did you get interested in photography? I’m a painter. When digital photography started, I composed images on the computer for my paintings, and that’s how I started taking pictures. With underwater photography I work differently though. I don’t want to create an image, I want to capture it. So I barely do any retouching other than colour-corrections because the photos already have so much going for them. I wouldn’t even be able to recreate the reflections that happen naturally underwater.

So did you fall into underwater photography the same way Alice fell into the rabbit hole? I was already doing underwater photography and had experimented with a few images. But no matter how much you prepare ahead of time, shooting underwater is always full of surprises and you might end up creating a whole different image. That’s what’s interesting to me, the element of unpredictability. The key is going with the flow. What's your favourite aspect of photography? Being underwater and seeing how colours, shapes change. I listen to my breath and heartbeat because it feels like I’m in a different dimension. I forget about everything and look through the viewfinder to capture the moment. That sounds very inspiring and like a very nice way to live and create art. Yes, I’m fortunate I must say. I love what I do and that’s probably why it speaks to people. I’m curious, what brought you to the Bahamas from your native Russia? I was always drawn to water since childhood. It’s my element and embodies my way of life. I swim all the time and often with my camera. Do you work in a swimming pool or natural surroundings? I wonder about the challenges that come with that. I shoot in both but the ocean has a much better atmosphere. It’s much harder to work with though, everything has to be right: the conditions,
the clarity. Also physically it’s more challenging. It takes a lot of time as there are many variables. “Alice underwater” was shot in the pool because it was easier for children and I had too many props to shoot in the ocean. Is there something you think children bring to photography that adults don’t? Children bring innocence, they’re not as guarded and can be free. The only thing is you can’t push them like adults. If they loose interest you have to wait for the spark to come back. In “Alice in Wonderland”, Alice swims in her own tears, she shrinks and later turns into a giant. It’s a complete dream world. Why did you decide to retell the story underwater? Underwater your sense of reality subsides. Your perception is altered and your link with other people is broken. It has the same quality as when Alice walks through the mirror. Alice’s world is not that much different to the world underwater. Also, I had my models: my daughter Alexandra (who actually only wants to be called Alice), and my son, who played The Mad Hatter. Finally, the tale of Alice in wonderland has a lot of symbolism. What are the things in the story that attracted you the most? It’s my favourite tale of all time. In essence it’s a nonsensical story. There’s nothing really happening, it’s not set in a particular frame, it’s limitless and free. That struck a chord with me in the bottom of my heart and I chose to make it my own

Well, your dreams recently became a reality. On June 4, Antipasto Magazine hosted the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for all those arty, romantic souls out there. The event was held at Leaf Tea Boutique, Central to launch the new Wonderland Exhibition. Guests dressed in couture millinery and Alice dresses for an evening of tasteful art and tasty cupcakes. Of course, a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party wouldn’t be complete without the March Hare, the Mad-Hatter and Alice, who were all present in the artwork on display.
The March Hare, in the form of Marco Puccini, wowed guests with the most up-to-the-minute digital art this side of the rabbit hole. Inspired by childhood imagery and retro designs, Puccini’s art captured the imagination of the young, and the young at heart.
The Wonderland Exhibition is a unique opportunity to witness some exquisite, but very different, interpretations of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. Puccini’s art stretches the limits of the imagination, by placing colorful, fantasy characters in seemingly real-life settings. He reawakens the child in each of us with his mischievous digital creations, making you look a little closer at what is happening in the world of the picture. Meanwhile, Orizio’s artwork offers a stunning re-interpretation of the many characters who occupy
Wonderland. He transports the viewer into a darker version of the story, where gothic images are mixed with childhood memories in an elaborate way. The photographic work of Kalis offers an entirely different vision of Alice’s adventure down the rabbit hole. Instead of imagining Alice in a subterranean alternate-reality, Kalis has photographed Alice underwater, in the most unexpected of ways. In doing so, Kalis asks us to question the conventional interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s novel

Though the title suggests it is a soup, it is actually not. This dish is a new creation that features Atlantic lobster, asparagus, and marinated cherry tomatoes, served on a bed of cucumber spaghetti and surrounded by consommé in jelly form. Combining all of summer’s nice eye-catching colours – green, red, yellow – and presented in a surprisingly different form of solid consommé, this dish has all the right ingredients to be a summer hit.

Under the smoldering summer heat, it is always difficult to really enjoy a hot, heavy bowl of soup. Nothing beats the freshness of watermelon juice, when it comes to soothing and quenching thirst after a hot summer day. Refreshing watermelon juice makes up the soup’s base, which also contains a touch of cumin, to spice up the grilled calamari, and chunks of watermelon that freshen up the palate. The serving temperature of the soup can be a bit tricky. If chilled, the grilled squid are too cold, so instead, it was served fresh, but not refreshing enough to the palate. Despite that, this soup could still be a real delight and a perfect choice for a hot summer night’s dinner.

This dish features home-made fusilli (pasta) cooked to perfection, with big sea clams and in-season zucchini. The texture of the fusilli was exceptional, different from what is commonly available, which is chewy and solid. This pasta was al dente, married with the natural sweetness and juiciness of the big sea clams and combined with the freshness of zucchini grown on the owners’ farm in Italy. Quite unlike many pasta dishes, this particular pasta dish did not appear to be too heavy and worked wonderfully as a summer’s dish.

Duckling with spices, fondant beetroots and turnips, cherry flavoured juice. This dish oozes with summer’s passion and charm. Not only the different colours, but the glazed beetroots and cherry sauce create a sweet and sour symphony that brings out all the flavours in the duck meat. The duck leg confit was slow-cooked to perfection, and the duck breast was well marinated with honey and spices. A classic touch of dry orange peel added zestiness to the duck breast. This dish is not only an aesthetic piece of art, but will certainly also delight you with its many complex flavours!

Classic cocktails with a brand new twist! I Scream presents us with their whole new range of cocktail gelati to help you combat the summer heat. All five flavours have a light alcohol content and a slightly bitter alcohol aftertaste, to remind you of the original cocktails. Cosmopolitan Sorbet was a bit on the acidic side. Bloody Mary was slightly heavier, with a rich tomato taste. My favourite was the Cuba Libre Sorbet – crisp, smooth like the original cocktail, with a balanced taste of rum, coke and lime; very refreshing indeed. Bellini Sorbet was dominated by peach tones and followed by a light taste of white wine, without the original’s Prosecco bubbles, though. Pina Colada Gelato – the only one in the series to come in the form of gelato – was dominated by pineapple and ended with the light bitterness of alcohol. Surely one of these cocktail gelati will bring you a soothing cure for the hot summer sun!

INGREDIENTS (Serving 4 people) - norwegian salmon fillet 200g - oarse sea salt 50g - black peppercorns 1tbs* - fennel seeds 3tbs *tbs = tablespoon DIRECTIONS Cut salmon into long 'sticks' about 2cm x 2cm thick and 15cm long, then cure with coarse sea salt for 4 hours. Rinse under cold water and dry with paper towel. Toasts black peppercorns and fennel seeds on a pan and crush in mortar, after that roll salmon in the seasoning and sear quickly on smoking hot cast iron pan. Let it cool and wrap tightly in cling film. Cut with a very sharp knife, it's easier to cut with cling film still on. Serve with smoothly pureed avocado (seasoned with lemon juice, salt and tabasco) as a canape in spoon, in salads, or freeze and cut thin for carpaccio

Imagine a hot summer day, lying lazily on the balcony with your partner. Now imagine the perfect drink to chill out with to really make your moment complete. If you’re thinking a glass of light refreshing wine, nothing too serious or heavy, would be absolutely perfect, then Moscato d’Asti just might be your best choice! Its varietal designation is controlled and guaranteed, originating from the appellation region in the North
Western part of Italy, and made from Moscato Bianco grapes in the province of Asti in Piedmont. This fragrant, slightly fizzy, sweet and deliciously easy to drink wine, typically has a lower alcohol level (normally only 5.5%) and is quite high in residual sugar. When chilled, it’s the perfect summer delight and makes an ideal aperitif in warmer weather. Try pairing its sweetness with starters such as prosciutto melon.

LA MORANDINA Moscato D’Asti 2009 Light yellowish in colour, with a bouquet dominated by apple, followed by a strong lime and floral nose. The aftertaste is refreshing with slightly citrus-like acidity and honey notes left on the palate, lasting longer than the Pelissero. There is, however, slight bitterness towards the very end.

lchemy has been practised for over thousands of years; the aim was to turn some less valuable metal into gold. In the new chapter of human history, we have a new approach to this philosophy. Since no one has ever succeeded in making gold out of less valuable metals, we could actually apply the idea to make useful items from trash. Another term for this is recycling. Nowadays, there are different ways to achieve it and many of us have invented our own. Trash has become a huge problem since the last century. For instance, Hong Kong generates around 6.4 million tons of waste a year. A standard railway car of length 25.9 meters can hold 105 tons of waste. Further, 6.4 million tons will fill up 60,952 train cars, which is 981 miles long. Shockingly, 981 miles is longer than the map distance from Berlin to Barcelona or Amsterdam to Napoli. By 2015, our existing landfills are expected to be full.

Turn Trash into Wearable Couture Recycle Runway Nancy Judd, an environmental educator has launched a project called Recycle Runway. Care and humanity condenses into physical support. After the tsunami happened in Japan, many of us who fortunately were unaffected wanted to contribute some support in any way we could. Some news reports even claimed that the rescue resources from outside were excessive. Japan is a very unified nation, and no matter where they are as a people physically, even in a state of environmental disaster, they always remember their traditions and country. During the annual Milan Design Week, a group of Japanese residents in Milan including artists, designers, public relations, journalists, and ac-
countants with help from some Italians, together raised an emergency project for Japan. A design exhibition called Charity Box was created to support the victims of the earthquake and tsunami of March 11. As it is named, charity box designs are displayed to collect funds. Visitors are welcome to put donations in the boxes of their choice. In total there were 57 pieces, each created by internationally renowned designers. The underwater world is undoubtedly a mystery, and yet offers more to explorers than just the discovery of shipwrecks. Thistlegorm, a British armed Merchant Navy ship, was attacked by the Nazi Germany and sunk near Ras Muhammad in the Red Sea in 1941 on her way from South Africa to North Africa to backup the British army. Much to the amazement of divers, a well-preserved Bedford truck was found inside the wreck! To add to the curious list of underwater discoveries is a motorcar wreck which

As humans, we tend to think of the sky and sea as two separate entities, but these examples from history tell us we should actually treat them as a whole. Changing our perception may lead us to discover miraculous lost objects such as warplanes deep under the water’s surface. For example, Aircraft P-51 was attacked by Nazi Germany when it was destroying the radar stations of Germany at the southern French coast in 1944. It now sleeps on sandy ground at a depth of about 56 meters around 8 miles east of Toulon in southern France.

"Water" (2005), by director Deepa Mehta, is the third and last part of Metha's "Elements" trilogy, after "Fire" (1996) and "Earth" (1998). Definitely the most successfully reviewed of the three, the movie was filmed in Sri Lanka because supporters of Hindu cultural nationalism protested shooting in India. "Water" recounts the story of a widow of eight years, Chuyia (Sarala), who is sent to an ashram in Benasi (a city on the Ganges River) to mourn and pay for the crimes she certainly committed in a former life that supposedly led her to lose
her husband in this one. Set in pre-independent India, the movie also recounts the story of the beautiful prostitute Gulyani, who lives in the ashram as well and falls in love with Narayan, a handsome, upper-class man, and follower of Gandhi. Water is the protagonist throughout the movie, silent but always present, feminine with its calm but powerful flow. This element is crucial the plot. The stunning photography and the engaging soundtrack are also key, and the movie reads as a tribute 69
to women’s independence, as a hymn to non-violence resistance, as a lens through which we see India's traditions and contradictions, and as a reminder of the child within each of us. The movie succeeds showing the audience the weird family that the ashram is. From the moment Chuyia arrives, she colors this sad limbo with the sharp view on life that only a child can bring. She does it in such an intense way, the other women question who they are and what they want. As a result, Chuyia
is seen both as a sign of hope and also as a menace: Chyia represents life and the world outside, with its risks and its beauty. You can almost touch the protagonists, as you laugh and cry with them, smell the places, live the moments, feel the feelings, and hear the routine noises of the ashram, while the "voice" of water speaks to you. Essentially, "Water" is an emotional multi-sensorial experience that leaves you moved and marveled.

‘I bless the rains down in Africa…are the lyrics to a song that hit the music charts when released first by Toto, and later, given a unique touch by Perpetuum Jazzile, a Slovenian Jazz choir who have brilliant vocalists with a capella singing as their forte. The big difference in the original version and the version sung by Perpetuum Jazzile is the a capella style where the entire choir has brought out the varying sounds of the rain – from a light drizzle to a patter of raindrops to a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder, all this exclusively through the use of hands, feet and voices. Musical instruments do not find any place in this version with the entire choir lifting the song to another level on the strength of their voices. The ability to make music and mime beats and musical instruments solely using one’s vocal cords also referred to as vocal percussion or beatboxing by singers has been in vogue for a long time but it is not followed up
by artistes as the mainstay of their performances. There are some solo artistes who have taken this style of vocal percussion and used it along with instrumental accompaniments to give their songs a unique style and essences, making them stand out for their distinctive music and audio style. However, this style of vocal percussion is most often seen in groups and choirs where a large number of artistes make it possible for each artiste in the group to bring out a different and unique sound using vocal cords or hands and feet to bring across different moods and elements to their singing while using songs from a broad range of genres that cut across nations and generations. A combination of these different sounds in combination with the different vocal ranges serves up an aural feast to the listener which is ‘pure music to the ears’

If you ask the average member of public their feelings on conversation undoubtedly they would express their personal concern for our environment and that it is an issue that should be of interest to everybody. If you take it one step further and ask what their personal contribution to saving the planet is most would probably let you know they recycle paper, cans and glass and turn the lights off when not in use. Some will be proud they only buy organic, others will buy their energy from an eco-friendly supplier and just every now and then you’ll meet someone who goes on eco-tourist holidays or actively takes part in local conservation schemes. Then, if you happen to be conducting this survey in your high street, look in their hands. Invariably, your survey respondent will be holding their shopping in a plastic carrier bag. Despite any protestation they make about doing their bit for
the environment, that very same bag is a killing machine. Figures suggest that more than one million birds and over one hundred thousand marine creatures die every year as a result of plastic debris and a good deal of this detritus is plastic bags. What to humans is a very useful every day item that we use completely unconsciously, to some animals is a perilous danger. In water and to a creature’s eyes, the plastic bag looks completely different. For example, to the endangered leatherback turtle, it appears like a jellyfish, one of its favourite foods. Leatherbacks , Minke Whales and Cuviers Beaked Whales have all been found dead with ingestion of plastic bags being the cause. Plastic bag contamination of the coastline is not confined to any particular area. It is completely

indiscriminate. Windblown plastic bags are a global issue. When you know that Americans alone use one hundred million bags every year the potential scale for environmental impact is immense. Plastic bags are not just hazardous foods for birds and animals; they are non-biodegradable and can take up to a thousand years to break down in land fill sites; decomposition can cause chemical leakage into the soil and they are fossil fuel hungry. In January 2011, Italy took an amazing first step in the war on plastic bag pollution. All plastic bags were banned. Italian shoppers

So, before you put that tin of dolphin friendly tuna in a plastic bag at the supermarket, think not only of the dolphins but all the other creatures your bag has the potential to harm should it ever, albeit inadvertently, make its way to the sea.

As a native Italian, I consider myself a sort of urban nomad. However, a visit to Iceland left me feeling that that particular place just felt like home. In fact, I'm sure when most people leave, they keep dreaming of going back to a second home. Iceland is a unique place and a real world apart. Once you arrive, just taking a look around will make it seem as
if you’ve just landed on the moon. The scenery is breathtaking---raw country, awe inspiring silence, dynamic landscapes, magnificent views, a pure breeze and wild vegetation. To some travelers, the surroundings may seem harsh. This land is filled with an archaic intensity that both amazes and excites the traveler who is used to land shaped by human 79
hands. A large part of this country is inhabitable and unmarked by humanity, namely the ice fields, barren mountains swept by strong winds, vast glaciers, and steam rising from geysers. Coming here is like arriving to one of the most remote regions of Earth. The deserts of the central lands are painted in splendid colors, and you can view wide platforms of grey rock that have been eroded by river waters and pushed slowly out to the sea. On the island, everything appears primeval; a brand new world has just risen up from the deepness of the ocean and is still in the midst of its own genesis. Due to its isolated location in the extreme north, Iceland is often forgotten and, unbelievably, this country has even been left off maps of Europe! Its name literally means 'ice land'. Talking about nature and weather, there is an hironic saying: 'There is no weather in Iceland, only samples of it.' Another common ones, states: 'If you dont like the weather, wait 5 minutes'. I experienced it..I still have a fresh memory of one day in March: four seasons in few hours! Apart from me and perhaps others wanderers and so-called “consciously” lost, more than 300,000 call Iceland home. Even with a hip and stylish capital like Reykjavik, the isolation derived from a place like Iceland leads the individual to turn inward and focus on oneself more than any other place. Icelanders are in general very creative and expressive, have a pragmatic attitude toward the facts of
life, and possess a strong “down to earth” instinct for survival. In short, it could be said that Icelanders are children per nature and of nature. I admire them since it's not easy living here, especially in winter. It is all so different: the lackness of light gives you a lot to think!! So, it comes as no surprise that Icelandic artists draw their inspiration from nature and from the charisma of the country itself, as well as from folk tales and sagas that tell the stories of the hidden people and of supernatural inhabitants. For example, the design of the brand Vik Prjonsdottir, is inspired by myths and stories, with the intention to 'revaluate the image of the Icelandic wool industry through unconventional product development'. Another really powerful inspiration is the unique clash of fire and ice. The vast fields of sand, lava, magnificent ice-caps, as well as the changeable conditions of light, strongly influence Icelanders and their art. As editors on www.art-iceland.com have noted, “We Icelanders are lucky enough to live in a country that gives us access to such masterpieces”. Among recent exhibitions of that flair there's the design of Harpa concert and conference centre by the artist Olafur Eliasson. He designed the glass facade of the building, meant to reflect the changes of light in Reykjavik. It is not unusual to expect that much of Iceland’s art has been influenced by the country’s landscape. Ice-
