The Frontier as Heritage Cultural Values of Universal and Catholic Iberian Frontier, It is a masterpiece of creative genius for its scale (global), size and variety. Inflexion point of bastioned fortification system and its relations with the globally colonial urbanism through mathematics, fortification’s theory, colonies, piroballistic and defense’s technology, architecture, ... It represents basic reflection, that it is extended then to another areas of landscape relations between reason and nature of the place It gives a unique and exceptional testimony of the Imperial power and the Catholic Iberian heritage under the paradigm of the power and the interposition of the Popery (Christianity); It is an outstanding example of fortification and fortified cities bastioned that defined a set of specific landscapes that illustrates the stage of the transoceanic and colonial expansion; Exceptional examples of humans settlements from European Catholic culture (Iberian Christian kings) and their interactions with the environment through the strategic selection of sites (ports, mountain passes, river fords, territorial control hills, ...); The political and cultural changes make them especially vulnerable because of the spread of elements. It is directly related to the papal power over the land distribution (bulls that regulated the distribution of the world between the two kingdoms) to international law and serves to support the transfer of European culture to the world, the engineering birth, Christianity and other ideas and beliefs of the time; Natural Values of the Universal Iberian and Catholic Frontier The frontier sites selection obey to natural borders superlatives often of outstanding natural beauty (large bays, territorial control points) and aesthetic importance; Be outstanding examples representing major stages of earth's history, including the record of life, significant ongoing geological processes in the development of landforms, or geomorphic or significant physiographic features; Be outstanding representing examples ongoing ecological and biological processes in the evolution and development of land, fresh water, coastal and marine ecosystems and communities of plants and animals; To contain the most important and significant natural habitats for the in situ conservation of biological diversity, including those containing threatened species of important universal value from the point of view of science or conservation. The protection, management, authenticity and integrity of properties are also important considerations. Since 1992 significant interactions between people and the natural environment have been recognized as cultural landscapes.

Transfrontier MiĂąo Fortress Master Plan: systems recognition
The newest part of the work, which plans activities for all isolated fortresses and fortified cities, has been the territorial location and recognition of a large set of fortress and defense elements, many of them executed on the ground and hidden in the dense forest, built during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The historical planimetry combined with GPS technology has finally allowed a support GIS that serves to make "visible" these strengths in land planning and permits its safeguard.

Route of Santiago de Compostela, WH 1993 Pilgrimage, nature, sacralization, culture,... "spiritual landscape” Santiago de Compostela was proclaimed the first European Cultural itinerary by the Council of Europe in 1987, and World Heritage in 1993
“The road has no beginning, no time limitation, no destination the road is to walk, ... then, we put ourselves in the way in search of ourselves in search of life and people, ... we open ourselves to situations and the others letting the energy flow of real change learning and absorbing the essence, ... every particle of life of the Universe”

Route of Santiago, landscape of the spirit International
Spiritual
Hispanic - Luso
The main function of the roads was always Jacobean communication and transportation itself. Today, the character of the road changes and is permanently transformed between cultural, religious, gastronomic touristic, etc ... Characteristics or indicators of the route consequently enrich and modify the rate of time and society that occupies it. The silence, the peace, excellence, surprise, figuration, ... are evaluated as features in the roads. Their presence or absence certainly identify and characterize these landscape and unit Jacobean spaces between them. Road routes change regaining their traditional character as a route of pilgrimage to the role of the encounter with reflection on its character, in excellence and introversion of the route.

El carĂĄcter del Camino
This route, from the French-Spanish border, was – and still is – taken by pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. About 1,800 buildings along the route, both religious and secular, are of great historic interest. The route played a fundamental role in encouraging cultural exchanges between the Iberian peninsula and the rest of Europe during the Middle Ages. It remains a testimony to the power of the Christian faith among people of all social classes and from all over Europe.
Territory, landscape and heritage, analysis and management methodology. Antonio Hoyuela, Architect
Traditions & Multifunctionality on the route
In many cases the way and the roads are part of a network where the symbolism Jacobean coexists with other Roman, Mozarabic, medieval, etc multifunctional faces of this complex space. This is manifested as functional richness on complementary elements like signs, steps, walkways, fountains ... which coexist maximizing the Jacobean history, culture and tradition. In the photo: Route de la Plata near its entry into the city of Salamanca and a testifying milestone use during the Peninsula Roman occupation. These history’s silent witnesses should be analyzed as a enriching complements of Jacobean culture.
Multifunctionality & Traditions
The loss of traditional professions, linked or not to the road, have to be seen as a threat. Sellers, knife grinders, podiatrists, water carriers, shepherds, bakers ... coexist as a human ecosystem that is an intrinsic part of the landscape and evolves with the new customs while accurately reflect the processes and activities.
Territory, landscape and heritage, analysis and management methodology. Antonio Hoyuela, Architect
The landscape is constantly evolving. The subjective perception of their values depends on the time, the society, and the technological evolution. Today the road has lost his religious vocation and evolves into a complex reading of the recognition of its values landscaped, economic, social, cultural and artistic eminently.
Territory, landscape and heritage, analysis and management methodology. Antonio Hoyuela, Architect
Touristic pressure
The touristic pressure in Jacobean spaces is particularly evident in Santiago de Compostela. The capacity depends on the type of territorial space and accessibility features, dimensions, structure and status thereof. Tourism in this sense can be interpreted as a threat if it exceeds these thresholds but at the same time, in the ongoing dialogue of threat / opportunity that sustainable development demands in every territory, is a fundamental element to value on the routes. And, if you do it well, that regional development infrastructure become “the Route. Managing tourism, services, infrastructure and equipment, also becomes an exercise in spatial planning in relation to the suitability of Jacobean spaces.

Flood management, 2011, Tennesee. Uses of neocartography Neo-mapping is not a technology, it is a way to build knowledge. New forms of representation and communication, new ways to participate, new ways to update and innovate in information, geographical and territorial diagnosis.
Geographic information, along with social networks, are changing the perception of information, space and time. The easy access and management of information and the creation and dissemination of the maps are changing dramatically. The interactive generation of geo-referenced data and services ('mashups'), the collaborative mapping ('crowdsourcing'), the availability of real-time information ('tracking') and creating individualized systems, routes, relationships, trials and places ('blogs') are clear examples of these changes neocartographics.

In the meantime, users can become producers with the assistance of new technologies in the surrounding field of Web 2.0. This change from being consumers only map to a combination of producer and consumer map has created socalled prosumers. Even without the use of the portmanteau word, cartographers have discussed and dealt with this phenomenon in principle since the change from analog to digital cartography, as well as since the diffusion of GIS from the 1980s onwards (eg Bollmann 1996, 1996 & Heidmann 1999 Harbeck ). Discussions center picked out as themes include changes in map production and communication, new use of maps and analyses of the role of cartography in the present and in the future.
In cartography, a map diversification and change in half has occurred during the last few decades: GIS over from paper maps, the appearance of dynamic and interactive Internet services in a mobile context and, up to the development of Web 2.0 applications (Such as OpenStreetMap). This diversification process is not static, but is itself continually evolving. An associated significant development (and this is not new) is that maps are no longer created only by professional cartographers. Representatives of other occupational groups (eg designers, computer scientists) and laymen have been involved in the practice for decades, using Desktop GIS Mapping Systems on Demand or online programs. This dynamic development has accelerated in the last few years thanks to the availability of increasing appropriate technologies and mobile Internet applications, as well as the strong penetration of the Internet to a broader population of users.

Tourism and Sustainable Development can be considered from a new perspective of cultural heritage with this instruments The new dimension of heritage is to be incorporated into spatial planning processes as a key resource in a sustainable development strategy. Local dimension must be completed with the recognition of the universal and global values
The territorial cultural heritage as a resource for economic and social development must be able to recognize their values and incorporate the local dimension, the character of the landscape, and the identity of each element, and the systems and assemblies are structured Š TERYSOS, Territorio y Sostenibilidad, 2012

Heritage vs Tourism and Economic Development In many countries tourism is a resource and an avenue for development, so their planning and management is a task of great complexity and this must take into account a number of factors and resources (transport, accommodation, hotels, restaurants, roads, natural resources, labor, etc.) to be analyzed in an integrated manner. The Cultural Heritage should definitely occupy main space in this context. This wealth of information can be largely stored, retrieved, and managed very efficiently by GIS, institutional arrangements, data models and exchange formats through an integrated Heritage SDI

In today's world few areas are outside the scope of these technological tools that streamline and make more reliable the analysis in terms of space (area calculations, distances, volumes, heights, etc..), thematic (population size, types of these soils, types of sand on beaches, etc.) and mixed. According to the latter may find answers to common questions and challenge in cultural heritage management. Territory, landscape and heritage, analysis and management methodology.
