St Vincent De Paul Housing Market: Residential | Stage: Conception to Construction | FSA 2378.5sqm | 36 units on Heritage Listed site | Cost: 20M Client: Amelie Housing and Gledhill Constructions | Location: 6-16 Smarts Crescent, Burraneer, NSW 2230 Role: Project Architect Project Description: A seniors housing development comprising of 36 dwellings including, alterations and refurbishment of Mount St Vincent House (heritage item) to accommodate 3 seniors living units along with communal areas. Being adjacent to a heritage listed item and with much community opposition Land and Environment Court issued the approval of Development Application with some additional conditions. Level of Responsibility: Modify 20% apartments to comply with Adaptable Housing Code AS4299 and confirm compliance with the Accessibility code AS1428 as conditioned by Land and Environmental Court with development application (DA) approval; To ensure design documentation complies with SEPP Seniors, ADG, Silver level Liveable Housing Guide, National Construction Code (NCC) in accordance with BASIX, Acoustic, Heritage reports and design brief from client achieving 7-star NatHERs rating; Managing and leading the team for design development, D&C contract and construction documentation together with attending design and consultants meeting for coordination; Preparing programs and providing services during construction including monthly site inspections, negotiations with consultants, including access, heritage, certifier and services engineers. A New Public Primary School Market: Education | SSD Application and Schematic Design | FSA 1500sqm | Core 35, 1000 students | Cost: 55M Client: Department of Education and TSA Management | Location: Marsden Park Role: Project Architect Level of Responsibility: Leading a team of 15 people (Graphics, 3D Visualization, Landscaping, Interior, Architecture) from different disciplines across the MODE studios, collaborating with directors internally, liaison with clients, co-ordinating consultants and Project Managers for schematic documentation leading to D&C Tender; Redesigning the scheme to explore potential options and to achieve EFSG sign-off. Weekly workshops with EFSG to present worked-out design options leading to develop a design scheme in agreement; Fortnightly design presentations at Department of Education (DOE) in front of Project Reference Group (PRG) and Technical Support Group (TSG) to achieve the project milestones; Designing the volumetrics and faรงade elevation details; Preparing Design Statements, safety in Design Report, monthly report, invoicing and assisting in internal finance. Woolworths | Cost 25M Client: Artazan Property Group & ADCO | Location: 70 Hezlett Road, Kellyville, NSW 2155, Australia Role: Project 2IC, Supervising Architect: Robert Sanderson, NSW 5150 Level of Responsibility: North Kellyville Square represented a significant leap in responsibilities and roles primarily because only two people were working on the project, me and the Project Leader; also, due to the sheer scale of the project and number of stakeholders. My role was to manage the project after design development through construction documentation and construction advice, as project 2IC, continuously liaising directly with project managers, sub-consultants, builders to provide decisions on design and project parameter. Co-ordinating architectural and consultants’ documentations for consistency with the detailed design intent and with quality, cost and time parameters. Also, inspecting construction work in progress and meeting subcontractors and engineers weekly on site, initially supervised by the Project Leader, later on my own; moreover, to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and quality standards. The role also included guidance to the client on establishing Retail Management programs and manuals for leasing purposes; followed by post construction defects inspection. Level of Participation: The role was primarily of an executive level. 35

Project Description: Design development and documentation of a major retail project in Wentworth Point Development. The project included a new retail center, 45 Commercial and Specialty retail tenancies including COLES supermarket and New Shopping Centre. The project includes free form and curved design with 1500 carpark, thus is challenging to document and execute. Construction is concrete framed with masonry external walls, stud partitions internally and concrete slab as roof with residential component above. Level of Responsibility: Documentation, design input, ensuring design addresses accessibility standards, design and presentation drawing production, marketing plans, design brochure, producing detailed section and contributing to the BIM Revit model as an active team member

Wentworth Point - Block C Sirius Construction Phase Market: Mixed use | 770 dwellings | status: under construction, dollar value: 195 million Responsibilities: Door schedule, tagging & annotations, concrete set outs “Sirius is a new foreshore community of 703 residential apartments at Wentworth Point, directly adjacent to the proposed new bridge across Homebush Bay. Combining a strongly articulated tower with linear podium blocks, this development defines the Wentworth Point gateway as approached from the north-east. Wintergardens and angled balconies are orientated to the expansive city and harbour views, whilst capturing winter sun. A generous landscaped rooftop terrace flows from the tower, across the northern podium, providing a strong connection to the water and across to Rhodes. To the west another rooftop landscape space opens to the north, with a more serene and sheltered aspect. This scheme is the fifth in a continuing evolution of the broader Wentworth Point Marinas precinct masterplan with Billbergia Developments.�

Potential Sites

PROJECT Housing in Sydney has illustrated the dilemma of density and the need for creating pleasant places to live in. Within the sector of housing for students, there has been a lack of individual residential living facilities for the students who just arrived in Sydney and wish to cope up to the new urban setting. 60% of the world’s population is expected to be living in cities by 2030. In particular, as Australia is a country of migrants, 54% among them are international students, with the preference of living around universities within the cities. - Any potential site around universities within the radius of 8 min bike rides could be an option for the project.

People, Power and Bureaucracy National Secretariat Complex, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar,Dhaka INTRODUCTION In contemporary usage, the term ‘Democracy’ refers to a government chosen by the people. The constitution protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of bureaucracy. So the actual power in democracy lies with the people. As stated by Abraham Lincoln, ‘The government – of the people, by the people, for the people’- cultivates a critical relationship between Bureaucracy and democracy using people as the connecting medium. The architectural vocabulary of government buildings are such that it denotes a physical expression of man’s relationship to the bureaucracy. The democratic debates in such environments are activities fostered thus by the architectural design of the space. The democratic imperative, defined as citizens, have the right to participate in political decisions that affect their daily live. Citizens have created some of the most highly respected, resonant and realized statuses in the form of bureaucrats. This in turn has given position and authority to such eminent buildings in the world of architecture. The supreme governing institutes like parliament building, secretariat, courts etc. act as a constant reminder of the aspirations of nations and their values. But unfortunately, people have been kept out of these govt. buildings due to privacy and security issues of late. Through my thesis, I intend to introduce public and cultural amity to such kind of buildings, maximize public participation, and yet take care of the security concerns. The project is the secretariat complex of the master plan done by Louis I Kahn in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Since the master plan has been already dishonoured by govt., there is a need of a design which sits in harmony with the assembly complex and reunites the master plan. This project is an attempt to develop an architectural design that symbolizes democracy against bureaucracy, is deeply rooted in its context and symbolizes the power entrusted with the citizens.

HYPOTHESIS

The thesis is intended to achieve an architectural expression that symbolizes democracy as well as pays heed to a master piece of architecture in closer context.
