Six Ways to Celebrate Women’s History Month at Work March is Women’s History Month, which means it’s time to celebrate the women in your office! Across the world, employers are leaning into diversity and inclusion programs to help foster a better work environment for all. And while there’s still a long way to go, there are things you can do today to celebrate women in the workplace right now. A Brief Rundown of Women’s History Month Women have fought for progress and equality for centuries, and significant progress has been made over the last hundred years. To understand how we got to where we are today, it’s important to remember the women that paved the way. Women's History Month is far more complex than this brief rundown covers, but here are some of the milestone moments in women's suffrage that make the month great:
1909: First observance of Women’s Day in New York 1911: First International Women’s Day observed 1975: The United Nations recognizes and adopts International Women’s Day 1980: President Jimmy Carter formalizes the first National Women’s History Week 1987: Congress passes legislation to formalize the first Women’s History Month These are just a few of the milestones made by women in the last couple of decades. Women’s History Month is a time when we can come together and celebrate the incredible women you know and employ. Here are a few creative ways to celebrate the women at your company via social media this month: 1. Celebrate Women on Social Media One of the easiest ways to celebrate Women’s History Month is to celebrate women on your social media presence! You can also use A|P NEWSLETTER 04
Women’s History Month to get social with women in your industry! Challenge yourself to follow five different women on Twitter and LinkedIn every day. Forging these connections can help open your world view, sharpen your networking skills, and even strengthen your feeds on these channels. Here’s a couple hashtags you can search to get started: #WomensDay #SeeHer #WomenInHistory 2. Buy a Coffee for a Woman that Inspires You This idea is as simple as a trip to your local coffee shop. Reach out to three women you admire or want to know more about and offer to buy them coffee. Set about an hour aside to sit and chat with them about work, life, hurdles they’ve overcome, and anything else that might come up. Not only will this show appreciation for the women in your life, it can also be a learning experience. 3. Get Involved with Organizations that Support Women and Girls Looking to take your support of women and girls global? Women’s History Month is a great chance to get involved with an organization that supports women and girls. Many of these organizations have corporate partnership programs that will work with your company to create a unique philanthropic opportunity. Here’s a list of nonprofit organizations that support women and girls to help get you started: • Girls Who Code • Kiva • The Malala Fund • Global Fund for Women • Girls Write Now 4. Host Guest Speakers The best way to celebrate Women’s History Month is to give women a platform. Inviting women in the industry 05 MARCH 2022
to speak is an important opportunity. Whether you invite a single speaker to talk about their own career and Women’s History Month, or if you host a panel of women, it’s a great chance to learn from those with firsthand experiences. 5. Start a Book Club If you’re looking for something you can implement year-round, consider starting a book club that places emphasis on female authors! Send out a survey to your team for book suggestions and participation interest. From there, you can assign your first book and meet once a month to discuss what you’ve read and how it impacts society. Here are some books you can get started with: • “Lean Out” by Dawn Foster • “We Should All Be Feminists” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie • “Feminism Is For Everybody” by Bell Hooks • “Difficult Women” by Roxanne Gay • “Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science” by Rachel Swaby • “Almost Famous Women” by Megan Mayhew Bergman Make Women’s History a Priority Every Day Celebrating Women’s History Month once a year is a good start, but we hope you’ll use these ideas to spark a larger conversation. Use the ideas to create the blueprint for a more inclusive environment. When the workforce is more accepting and diverse, everyone wins! Article from Fond.co by Lauren. 3RD PHASE OF MIAMI-AREA AFFORDABLE PROJECT BREAKS GROUND The community will include units reserved for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A public-private partnership between the Dania Beach Housing Authority and Atlantic Pacific Communities has broken ground on the 75-unit third phase of the affordable Saratoga Crossings in Dania Beach, Fla. The project is expected to deliver in early 2023. HUD, Wells Fargo and Florida Housing Finance Corp. are funding partners for Saratoga Crossings III, with the community having secured a $13 million construction loan from Wells Fargo, an $8 million permanent loan from Impact Community Capital as well as $9.5 million 4 percent low-income housing tax credits, $3.1 million Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Relief funding and $2.4 million in land acquisition funding by the Florida Housing Finance Corp.
Project details Located at 840-850 W. Dania Beach Blvd., across the street from Saratoga Crossings I and II, which feature 172 units completed in 2019, the development is roughly 2 miles south of Fort Lauderdale International Airport and some 3 miles northwest of the Anne Kolb Nature Center. Oakwood Plaza is 1 mile southwest of the property, while Dania Beach is 3 miles east.
room units. Amenities will include a common area, on-site laundry, mailroom, elevators, as well as parking. The property will be reserved for those making 80 percent or less of the area median income. The Saratoga Crossings III site currently houses an outdated residential building and a separate office building. The residential building now includes 12 one-bedroom units funded through HUD’s Project Based Rental Assistance program and are occupied by 24 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The developers will use HUD’s program to temporarily relocate 12 of the tenants during construction. They will move back once the development is complete, this time each with their own separate one-bedroom/one-bathroom unit. DBHA will relocate the rest of the tenants with HCV, having the choice to return once the development is complete, or use their vouchers elsewhere. The project will also bring 15 Project Based Vouchers for seniors, issued by the DBHA. Last year, another A|P Communities joint venture delivered—the 252-unit affordable senior housing community Woodlands at Reid Temple in Glenn Dale, Md. The property is 16 miles northeast of downtown Washington, D.C. SOURCE: WWW.MULTIHOUSINGNEWS.COM/3RD-PHASE-OFMIAMI-AREA-AFFORDABLE-PROJECT-BREAKS-GROUND POSTED ON JANUARY 11, 2022 BY ANDA ROSU

EMAIL SAFETY with Sergio Gordillo, Leabert Henry & Michael Hanna
Emails are a hacker’s favorite way to cause trouble because it’s quite unassuming and unexpected. Let’s review some email-safety tips to keep it top of mind, so you don’t get caught off guard with a scam. Every year, thousands of people fall prey to various social engineering scams creating chaos all through the business landscape. A few years ago, toy industry giant Mattel got caught up in a phishing scam that cost the company three million dollars. Here’s how to avoid getting scammed through email. As most phishing attempts revolve around Social Engineering, which is trying to trick an unaware end user into giving away their credentials or signing over sums of money using an untraceable method, you must be on the lookout for threats always via email. Here are a few things to watch for: 1. Unexpected emails from unrecognized sources – Did you just get an email from a business or company you do not recognize asking you to sign into some web service or download a document? Don’t open any links or any files – It may be fake! Investigate first and if you can’t find correspondence, odds are this is a phishing attempt. 2. Recognized senders asking you for something that isn’t familiar - Many times, an email will come through with the name of someone you recognize but
the attachment, link or message request doesn’t seem familiar. Do not open the attachment or click the link. Instead, look at the email address of the sender to ensure it’s actually coming from them. Also, call the person to confirm if they sent you that email. 3. Beware of urgent terms – a lot of scammers attempt to scare you into making a mistake using diction that conveys a sense of urgency, threatening to terminate an account, or stating you have held voicemail with the goal of overturning your better judgment by making it seem time sensitive. Double check with your administrator, especially with anything email related. The IT department is just a phone call or email away. 4. Check Embedded Links – Some scam artists try to use embedded links to hide the destinations of where a link in an email may be going, making it appear as highlighted text or an image. Check the link before you click. By mousing over any hyperlink, be it a copy-pasted web address, a link embedded in text or an image, mousing over the link displays the URL of where it’s going. If it doesn’t look like it is coming from an official domain (a link that is supposed to be from Best Buy instead says gameshow101.com), it is probably fake! As always, if you are ever in doubt, just reach out to the IT department. We’ll let you know for sure. A|P NEWSLETTER 10
