Our Maintenance Apprentice Program (MA|P) was created to support a career path for Groundskeepers and Porters to become Punch Technicians, Maintenance Technicians and eventually Maintenance Supervisors. Those interested first start as a porter for three to five months with a specific curriculum to complete, and a mentorship with a Maintenance Supervisor. Upon completion, there’s a promotion to Punch Technician with a goal of five to ten months minimum to be considered for the Maintenance Technician role. Finally, following to become a Maintenance Supervisor. The program is ideal for those who are new to Property Management and want to follow that career path.
We’d like to congratulate Prince Galloway on being the first A|P employee to complete MA|P and his promotion to Maintenance Technician through the program. He has been training with our fantastic Maintenance Supervisor, Larry Hudson, and achieved his Universal EPA Certification in March.

Tacos Ingredients: • 1 pineapple, peeled, cored, cut into 1-inch cubes, about 2 cups, or 1 (20-oz.) can unsweetened pineapple chunks, drained • 1 medium onion, cut into rough chunks • 10 cloves garlic, peeled • 2 Tbs. ancho chili powder • 1 Tbs. cumin seeds • 1 Tbs. dried oregano • 1 Tbs. kosher salt • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes • 1 lb. lean pork shoulder, cut into ¾-inch chunks • 3 tsp. grapeseed oil or canola oil • 8 fresh corn tortillas • ½ cup sour cream • 1 lime • 1 bunch cilantro
Directions: Reserve ½ cup pineapple chunks and onion and refrigerate for later use. Combine the remaining pineapple, onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and red pepper flakes in a blender and blend to a paste. Place the meat and marinade in a gallon-size zip-top bag, squeeze out excess air, and zip closed. Refrigerate overnight. Strain the pork and discard the marinade. Then, heat a sauté pan over high heat and add a thin coating of oil and heat until the oil just starts to smoke. Working in batches, add the tortillas in a single layer and heat just until starting to char, about 1 minute per side, then flip and cook for another minute. Wrap in aluminum foil to keep warm.
Add just enough of the oil to cover the pan, swirl to coat, and heat until smoking. Add the pork and reserved pineapple and cook for 1 minute, or until browned. Shake the pan to flip the meat and cook until the pork is cooked through, and the pan juices have cooked dry. In a small bowl, combine the sour cream with the juice of ½ lime and whisk until smooth. Cut the remaining ½ lime into 4 wedges. Coarsely chop ½ cup cilantro leaves. Reserve 4 sprigs. Serve the tortillas topped with the meat and pineapple mixture, reserved onion, chopped cilantro, a drizzle of the lime sour cream, a lime wedge, and whole sprig of cilantro. Enjoy! Thank you to Fine Cooking for the tasty tacos. A|P NEWSLETTER 08

NO TAKE-BACKS with Sergio Gordillo, Leabert Henry & Michael Hanna
Picture this: You’ve taken the time to type out a painstakingly structured email meant for your managers, colleagues, or other members of the company regarding a sensitive issue not meant for the eyes of the general public. As you breathe a sigh of relief, with the addresses added, you hit send and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. But WAIT! There’s a name on that list that should NOT be there!
PANIC! Or… Maybe not? All may not be lost just yet. If you are quick, you might be able to recall the email before they have a chance to read it. How does recalling an email work? Prompt the server to rescind an email from the recipients, provided the recipient has not opened the email yet. Several email platforms support this feature. Today, we’ll be looking at Outlook specifically. 09 MAY 2022
Ok, great! How do I do it?
• In Outlook, go to the Sent Items section and find the message you want to recall. • Double click the message so that it opens in another window. • Once the message has opened in another window, click “File” at the top right and navigate to the Info tab. • Hit the “Resend or Recall” button, then select “Recall.” Once this is done, Microsoft will alert you that the process has started and will notify you if it was successful or not. If you act quickly and are a little lucky, crisis averted! Hopefully, this helps you in your office endeavors.
Benefits of Biking to Work Between 2000-2013, commuting via bicycle increased by 62 percent. The biggest increases were found in bicycle-friendly communities, which saw commuting rise by 105 percent. Although this is a good trend, it would be great to see even more people using bicycles to get to work. There are so many benefits to bike riding. To take a page out of James Corden’s book, if you’re thinking of biking to work, you should know that there are side effects, and those side effects may include… Saving money. The cost of gas keeps rising. According to AAA, the cost of owning a car is more than $8,600 a year for a midsize sedan and $10,250 for a sport utility vehicle. A bike, on the other hand, costs about $300 a year. If you didn’t own that car, think of all the money that you would save. If you’re disciplined, you could sock that money away for the future and have the cost of a new car with all the bells and whistles in just a few years. Getting a workout without the gym. In addition to saving money on car costs, you’ll also save money on a gym membership. Who needs to go to the gym for cycling class when you’re cycling to and from work? You won’t have to worry about how to fit it in your schedule or whether you’ll feel motivated to go to the gym. Instead, you’ll have that push to exercise each day you have to work. Becoming more fit and losing weight. On average, commuters lose about 13 pounds

during their first year of cycling. It’s a great way to work out your heart, and cycling is easier on the joints than running. That makes it a perfect option for someone who is overweight and out of shape. Saving money on health care costs. Along with helping you to be healthier, you’ll find that your health care costs will go down. You are less likely to need a doctor, get sick, or have heart problems because of your daily exercise and the benefits that come from this. Even if you don’t see a doctor very often right now, cycling will help you stay healthy and feeling young. Avoiding traffic jams. If you live in an area that is congested during morning and evening commute times, you won’t have to worry about it when you’re riding your bike. You can whiz by all the motorists as they sit in their cars and drum their thumbs on the steering wheel. Depending on how bad traffic is and how far away from work you live, you might find your commute to be faster when you ride a bike. Increasing your happiness level and decreasing stress and anxiety. This is true about any exercise that requires a good amount of effort, which means riding your bike each day will help you to release any pent-up tension or stress. This, in turn, leads to lower levels of depression and improved sleep. Plus, you’ll feel more confident and in a better mood overall. Article from Thrive Global by Jessie Cohen.
