The APIS summer program is proud to offer a rigorous, student-centered academic program. We are committed to working with students to improve their overall academic skills through a themebased program aligned with the current elementary programs already in place in the school. Programs such as Everyday Math and Readers and Writers workshop will be used to develop and improve students’ overall academic skills. The program will feature 3 strong core components in Literacy, Math, and technology, with 1 elective component. The goal is to expand and advance students’ reading, writing, vocabulary, speaking, and technology skills. Our project-based curriculum will help improve students’ critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Students will be grouped by grade level and taught by current APIS faculty. Elementary School Literacy/Match/Technology Program 은 현재 학교 교육과정에서 활용하고 있는 Everyday Math, Readers, Writers 워크샵을 가지고 학생들의 취약 부분을 보완, 강화해나가는 프로그램입니다. 읽기&쓰기, 수학, 컴퓨터과목 등 주요과목 3 개와 선택 과목 1 개로 구성된 프로그램을 통해 학생들의 비판적인 사고능력과 문제해결 능력이 길러지게 됩니다. 수업은 학년별로 이루어지며 현재 교사진이 직접 가르칩니다.

*Afternoon Sports Camp/ Vacation Bible Study Afternoon Activities 12:30 am –3:00 pm

This year Vacation Bible study will be integrated into the Summer Sports Camp in the afternoons. The Vacation Bible Study will be every 2nd day for all 4 weeks. Vacation Bible Study will be a fun and interactive learning about the bible. We will follow Paul on his journey to share the news of Jesus. Students will participate in bible stories, songs, crafts, games and more! Travel back with us to Ancient Greece where Paul will inspire kids to share the truth of God’s immeasurable love today. Summer Sports Camp is an opportunity for students to develop and improve motor skills, have fun, be active, and relieve stress. The camp will focus on team work, cooperation, positive healthy living habits, motor skill development, and of course fun. We will be introducing a variety of activities to the participants including soccer, T-ball, modified volleyball, and several games of lower organization, that are designed to improve motor skills, team work, and cooperation. It will be tailored for both the age and ability level of participants. Mr. Underhill is very excited and cannot wait to have a successful summer sports camp full of activities and fun. 올 해 여름방학 오후 프로그램은 성경공부와 스포츠 캠프로 구성되어 있습니다. 성경공부는 첫째주, 둘째주 동안 이틀마다 진행되며, 3-4 주에는 스포츠 캠프만 운영됩니다. 아이들은 사도바울의 여정을 통해서 예수님의 소식을 나누게 되며 성경이야기, 노래, 작품만들기, 다양한 게임을 함께 합니다! 고대 그리스로 돌아가 사도바울은 아이들에게 하나님의 놀라운 사랑을 느낄 수 있도록 할 것입니다. 스포츠캠프는 학생들의 운동실력을 높이고, 운동의 재미를 느끼고, 스트레스를 줄이는 데 도움을 줍니다. 이번 캠프는 팀별 활동과 협동, 건강한 식습관, 운동기술 향상에 주력할 것 이며 학생들은 축구, T-ball, 배구 및 적은 인원이 할 수 있는 다양한 스포츠에 참여함으로 팀워크 및 협동심에 대해 배울 것입니다. 이 프로그램은 나이와 참가학생의 실력에 맞추어 구성됩니다. Elementary School Literacy/Math/Technology Program Highlights: • The Literacy Camp will feature a rigorous, literacy-based program designed to develop, improve and advance reading, writing, speaking, and vocabulary skills. Readers and Writers Workshop will be used to tailor the literacy program for each individual child and prepare students for the next grade level. • The Mathematics Camp will focus on strategies and games to enhance students’ algebraic concepts, computation, measurement, and problem solving skills; It will help prepare students for the next grade level using the Everyday Math program. • The Technology Camp will focus on 2 separate 2 week projects for the students. The first 2 week project students will learn how to build and design a website and create an online blog. The second 2 week project will feature students learning how to film videos, upload them onto a computer, edit them using I-movie, and creating a final small video. • The elective classes are an opportunity for students explore other areas of education. • 읽기&쓰기 프로그램 (The Literacy Camp) 은 다양하게 구성되어 있으며, 읽기, 쓰기, 말하기 및 어휘 실력을 향상시키 는 데 도움을 주는 프로그램 입니다. Mr. Andy Murphy The Summer Basketball Sports Camp will be a fun yet challenging session. The camp will be offered to both boys and girls and have a focus on individual basketball skill development, improving athlete’s dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, and other intricate skills involved in the game of basketball. At the same time, the camp will teach valuable life skills such as leadership, cooperation, team work, and personal health. The goals of the program are for all individuals to have fun, relieve stress, learn the importance of being life-long healthy active people, and sportsmanship. At the same time, participants will become better individual and team basketball players. 350,000 KRW Chamber Music Class is a valuable musical experience for any student who wishes to improve their musicianship and instrumental skills in a fun and relaxed way over the summer. Students will prepare and perform music in small groups (duet, trio, quartet, jazz combo, etc.), practice new techniques, learn basic music theory, and enjoy making music together. Students interested in preparing for the AMIS audition next year will also be given the opportunity to practice the audition music with extra help. This class is available to any band student who has played a wind, brass, or percussion instrument for at least 1-2 years. Age: current grade 5-12.

Students will practice reading and writing skills along with studying model texts to learn through the Reader's and Writer's Workshop model. We will enjoy great literature, challenge ourselves to speak with confidence, and write pieces that show improvement by revising with publishing as our final goal. This practice will be adapted for each student's needs through personal goal setting and one-on-one conferencing. This is a one month enrichment program designed for students who find math challenging and/or students that may need more practice with basic skills and concepts. The program will focus on algebraic concepts, computation, measurement and problem solving. It will reinforce the previous year’s content and help students continue to develop the skills necessary to be successful in the up-coming school year. The program will include group instruction and discussion, one-on-one instruction, group work, game play and computer assessments. The Story of the Self: Writing Effective College Application Essays Afternoon Academic Enrichment Course: 11:45 am – 3:00 pm Minimum number of students 5 Maximum number of students 11 We will do our best to fill your schedule request and needs, but spots are reserved on a first come first serve basis.

In this class students will learn practical ways to shape personal experience into the compelling prose undergraduate admission officers are looking for when evaluating applications. The class will begin with a thorough analysis of the common application as we break down each prompt to better understand the purpose behind each question. Next we will read and evaluate a wide variety of application essays, developing a clear understanding of what makes for an effective personal essay. Finally, it will be time to write and share – the goal of course, outstanding application essays ready to go before the start of senior year! Instructor: Mr. Martin Walsh College admissions expert Martin Walsh has served as admissions officer at Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and is currently on staff at Harker Prep school in Palo Alto, California. Mr. Walsh has years of experience behind the scenes as an admissions officer and contacts with admissions officers at numerous top-tier universities. This experience has uniquely equipped him to be able to provide the “insider” tips to writing successful college application essays.

Online Course -- Students must work independently online and in communication with their online teacher (please note that the online teacher will be in the U.S.A. so students must plan to communicate with this instructor despite differences in time zone). For the first week of the course students may come to APIS for technical assistance from the summer school director and have a quite workplace to study in the library.
