The sixth season of WYCC PBS Chicago’s news series returns with new faces bringing even more stories to viewers. The Emmy-nominated In the Loop, WYCC’s flagship news program, has been covering important topics from the city, state, and nation since 2013. The program prides itself on its in-depth coverage and analysis, going deeper to help viewers understand complex issues. Chris Bury and Barbara Pinto, two of the country’s most respected journalists, have been co-hosting In the Loop since the beginning. The pair is now welcoming celebrated Chicago journalists Robin Robinson and Lauren Cohn to the program. “In the Loop is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our viewers,” said Paul Buckner, General Manager of WYCC PBS Chicago, “and the addition of Robin and Lauren

will help broaden our coverage and provide more insightful stories our viewers have come to expect.” Through its unique combination of investigative reporting, one-on-one interviews, and panel discussions, In the Loop provides a new spin on news coverage that can’t be found on other stations. Notable guests join the hosts each week to discuss a variety of topics. In Season 6, some of the subjects addressed will be education, politics, and transgendered teens. In the Loop has new episodes Thursdays at 7 p.m., with encore presentations Saturdays at 1 a.m. and Sundays at 6:30 p.m.

Whatever cuisine you’d like to try making in your own kitchen, WYCC PBS Chicago has a show for you every weekday! On Mondays at 3 p.m., viewers interested in adding more vegetables to their daily diet can tune in to The Jazzy Vegetarian. Host Laura Theodore explains how to cook healthy, delicious vegan food for family and friends. This month’s episodes focus on dishes like cauliflower, wheatloaf, and tofu. WYCC brings viewers the best of the best. Learn from experts like Rick Bayless (Mexico—One Plate at a Time, Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.), Martha Stewart (Martha Stewart’s Cooking School, Tuesdays at 3 p.m., and Martha Bakes, Wednesdays at 3 p.m.), and Julia Child (Baking with Julia, Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m.), who show why cooking can be such an enjoyable pastime. Thursdays take viewers away from North America, to the far reaches of Scandinavia and Asia. New Scandinavian Cooking airs at 2:30 p.m., followed by Martin Yan’s Taste of Vietnam at 3 p.m. Finally, beginning cooks can get a boost of confidence under the instruction of Joanne Weir’s Cooking Confidence Fridays at 3 p.m. Joanne teaches students by using her home kitchen as a classroom. Please see the listings for more information, programs, and individual episode topics.
You don’t have to leave cooking to the professionals! The skills and techniques learned while watching the cooking programs on WYCC can be used right in your own kitchen. ONE-MINUTE BIOGRAPHY with
Chris and Martin Kratt
Chris and Martin Kratt, who are better known as simply “the Kratt brothers,” have been teaching children about wild animals since 1996. They first appeared on PBS with the program Kratts’ Creatures. Then, from 1999-2001, they hosted Zooboomafoo. Since 2011, their cartoon selves have been the stars of Wild Kratts, which airs on WYCC PBS Chicago weekdays at 8:30 a.m. The Kratt brothers were born and raised in New Jersey. Martin was born on December 23, 1965, and Chris was born on July 19, 1969. Martin attended Duke University, where he earned a B.S. in zoology, and Chris went to Carleton College and earned a B.A. in biology. Chris and Martin started filming their own wildlife documentaries in college, when they would film the animals they saw while camping and then edit their film in their basement. Since then, they have traveled all over North America, South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia to meet creatures large and small. Chris’ goal in life is “to find out all he can about creatures and the creature world.” Martin’s goals are “to meet all his creature neighbors and convince people to be kind to creatures.” Through their educational programs on PBS, they have been helping young people around the country achieve these goals as well.
