PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
A
warm welcome to Counties Manukau players, management and supporters to McLean Park for the Mitre 10 Fixture against the Magpies. After two very good results in the South Island against Southland and Otago, we now come up against a strong Steelers’ team. I’m sure the Magpies are looking forward to playing on the new surface at McLean Park. It looks great and it will be a dream to play on. Thanks must go to the Napier City Council for finding the funding, and carrying through on the Contract. It is a great asset for all of Hawke’s Bay. So along with a new surface, and the start of a new home Season for Magpie supporters, we need to get in behind the team. We need plenty of noise. Go the Magpies!

CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
W
elcome everyone to this season’s first home game of the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup. A special welcome to the Counties Manukau team, supporters and board members. The Magpies have started the season with two good away wins, against Southland and Otago. Today›s game against Counties Manukau promises to be tougher but I know our coaches have the team well organised and motivated for the encounter. A special thanks is due again to all HBRU loyal sponsors and supporters. I can assure you there has been a lot of hard work done by players, staff and the board over the past 12 months to make the 2018 season more successful and enjoyable for us all. We are today playing for the first time, on the recently re turfed McLean Park. I would like to thank the Napier City Council and all the people involved in ensuring the project was successful and completed on time. Enjoy the game and hopefully you can be back next Saturday when we take on the Bay of Plenty Steamers at 4.35pm.

A MOMENT WITH THE COACH
A
whirlwind trip down into the deep south saw us travel away to the Stags in Round 1. Playing in Invercargill is always a difficult prospect with the home team and die-hard fans. It was great to get a first up win on the back of some physical forward play and a united defensive effort. We were guilty of turning over possession cheaply on attack and this was a real focus for us moving on to Otago. Playing Otago under the roof at Forsyth Barr is always an exciting prospect as the ball is in play for longer periods and teams have more confidence to use the ball. As a team we managed to maintain some defensive pressure, convert some line breaks into points and once again our tight five delivered a solid platform to compete from. To come back home on the back of a couple of away wins has been a great start to the 2018 campaign. Looking forward to catching you at the game today versus Counties Manukau.
