Libraries and community hubs

Whanganui’s public libraries are freely open to everyone. They have more than 100,000 books, magazines and DVDs together with over 30,000 eBooks and eMagazines for you to enjoy. Streaming video, free unlimited wifi and free-to-use desktop computers are also available.

The libraries run holiday programmes and events throughout the year for children and families. They also look after our community’s memories and enable people to discover and connect with their own and their community’s stories.

Rangiora Street – a self-service library in partnership with Progress

Castlecliff • a website – www.whanganuilibrary. com which includes a digital lending library. You can search the collection, reserve and renew books and manage your library account through the library website.

JOINING

It is free to join the library – you can register online or at any branch. Then bring some form of identification, such as your driver’s licence or passport to the library to complete registration and get your library card – with your all-important membership number! The Ruapehu Adventure Hub is the home to the Raetihi Holiday Park and the Whanganui River Canoes. Here you will find friendly, knowledgeable and capable staff who can help you book your adventure in the Ruapehu. Our job is to make your adventure easy, from planning, to booking, to briefing and providing everything you need for your trip.
