Punjabi Brothers jailed for role in massive Winnipeg drug operation Two Winnipeg brothers have admitted to their roles in a massive criminal operation that was infiltrated by the most elaborate undercover investigation ever launched by Winnipeg police. Baljinder Singh, 35, was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison Wednesday after admitting to trafficking in cocaine, methamphetamine and weapons. Narinder Singh, 40, was given a six-year sentence at the same time for similar drug offences. "You acted like parasites. You count on people getting addicted to these kinds of drugs," Queen’s Bench Justice Chris Martin said in agreeing to the joint-recommendations put before him by Crown and defence lawyers. "You showed an astonishing degree of selfishness and lack
of empathy for anyone else around you." Police arrested the Singh brothers and 12 other targets in February 2014 following a nearly two-year probe dubbed "Project Sideshow." Officers monitored
and intercepted more than 300,000 separate communications — phone calls, texts and emails — to gain inside knowledge of what was happening. In total, police say they documented
92 kg of cocaine with a street value of $5 million, 31/2 kg of methamphetamine with a street value of $192,000, one kg of ecstasy with a street value of $20,000 and more than $4.3 million in cash believed to be from proceeds of drug sales. The actual amounts of drugs and cash exchanged are believed to far exceed the amounts observed, police say. Officers were only able to seize a small amount of what they saw, as they couldn’t risk jeopardizing the investigation. "There’s a whole bunch of people out there right now, because of what you two guys did and other people in this project did, who are addicted to cocaine and meth," Martin told the Singh brothers on Wednesday. Punjabi Brothers jailed for role in massive Winnipeg drug operation Continued from page 01 "(People) who will struggle for the rest of their lives with cocaine and meth and those type of addictions, who have stolen from friends and family and others, who have ended up on the streets when they shouldn’t have ended up on the streets, who have given up jobs, who have given up education, all of that in pursuit of this drug in a business model you set up to profit yourself." Police say the organization had two different Winnipeg-based drug "cells" which stretched west to British Columbia and east to Ontario. Both are connected to Asian organized crime. Investigators regularly observed multiple kilograms of cocaine being smuggled from Vancouver to Winnipeg, often hidden inside the luggage of trusted couriers. Police obtained warrants that allowed them to secretly search the luggage at airports, documenting the contents before allowing it to continue on its way. Multiple kilograms of cocaine were frequently driven into Manitoba, both from B.C. and Ontario, and the drivers would use covert techniques to hide it
inside the vehicle to avoid detection should they be stopped by police. An apartment on Market Avenue in Winnipeg was used as a "stash house" for drugs and weapons. Police obtained warrants to allow them to "sneak and peek" inside the residence on several occasions to document what was happening inside there. The Singh brothers were seen repeatedly on camera involved in counting large sums of money and processing drugs, court was told. Police also hid video cameras inside the homes and hotel rooms of several targets after getting legal authority to do so, obtained production orders to look into the banking records of some accused and obtained four tracking warrants which allowed them to place devices on target vehicles to monitor their movements. -WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
British women carry illegal ‘lethal lipstick’ packing 3 million volts London, (ANI): Who said taser guns are dangerous? British women are carrying a lethal weapon which is much worse than a taser and it packs three million volts. Women in Britain are taking law into their own hands as they are carrying a three million volt stun gun disguised as lipsticks in their handbags, The Daily Star reported. The lipstick, which is illegal in the United Kingdom, delivers a shock 60 times more powerful than those used by police and carrying one could result in a five-year jail term for firearms possession. Earlier, a 27-year-old woman was
arrested after police confiscated a lipstick stun gun from a business in a village in England. A woman in possession of the stun gun said that all she had to do was press a button and it would give off a sound of a loud crack you’ll hear, adding that it would scare off any burglar. (ANI)
B.C. pledges to close loophole that allows some real estate investors to dodge taxes KATHY TOMLINSON Globe and Mail The B.C. government is pledging to close a loophole that allows some real estate investors to avoid paying the province’s property transfer tax. The move comes in reaction to a Globe and Mail investigation that found some wealthy foreign investors are buying real estate in Vancouver and putting it in the names of relatives or corporations, which helps the investors avoid taxes. “Canadians, the vast majority of whom pay the taxes they owe, want to know that everyone is doing the same,” Finance Minister Mike de Jong said in Victoria on Wednesday, when asked about The Globe’s findings. In B.C., corporations whose sole purpose is to hold properties in trust for an individual can transfer shares in the trust to any new owner without triggering a change in ownership. That means the buyer pays no transfer tax. Ontario has already closed that loophole, and Mr. de Jong said B.C. will look to do the same in the next budget. Mr. de Jong also said the province may consider raising the tax on the most expensive properties and putting the money toward tax relief for low-end buyers. On the federal level, Canada Revenue Agency insiders and legal experts say the tax regime is too weak to do much about foreign investors fuelling Vancouver’s real estate market by buying and selling expensive houses, while paying little or no income or capital gains taxes. The Globe investigation found one
Stephen Harper vows extended parental leave with option to stretch existing benefits over 18 months SASKATOON — The Conservatives are announcing added parental leave benefits under employment insurance, including extending the length of time mothers and fathers would have their jobs protected. Party leader Stephen Harper said on Wednesday a Tory government would provide up to 18 months of job protection for new parents, up from the current federal Labour Code provisions that grant that protection for a year. Parents on EI would also have the option to stretch EI benefits over 18 months, starting next year, Harper said, and a two-year pilot project would be

third of 250 multimillion-dollar Vancouver houses purchased recently in areas popular with Chinese buyers are registered to homemakers, students and corporations – which obscures the real buyers’ identities, and means they can escape the notice of tax authorities. “Canada has the reputation of being very soft on tax evasion, money laundering and vigorous enforcement of its tax code,” said Sam Hyman, a Vancouver immigration lawyer, adding that he has seen “widespread” tax avoidance by foreign investors. “Some are taking advantage of loopholes and some are actually evading taxes.” A review of more than 200 court cases involving divorces and other disputes revealed that some foreign-born owners told the courts and tax authorities their incomes were less than $30,000 – even as they moved millions of dollars into Canada through relatives. “This permits the Canadian residents – spouses and children and grandchildren – to receive millions of dollars in their hands – as ‘gifts’ from overseas – without anyone in these scenarios paying one cent of income tax in Canada,” Mr. Hyman said. The court records suggest many breadwinners declare to the CRA that they are non-residents, which means they have to pay income tax only on earnings in Canada, which are low or non-existent. Some who file Canadian taxes as residents appear to under-report their worldwide income.

established to allow parents to earn selfemployment income while on EI. The Conservatives say about 170,000 women receive EI parental benefits each year, with the number of fathers using the benefits also steadily rising. Harper made the announcement while campaigning in Saskatoon. In August, Justin Trudeau also proposed two new parental leave options under Employment Insurance: parents could receive their benefits in smaller blocks of time over an 18-month period, instead of taking it all in 12 consecutive months; or could take a longer leave, up to 18 months, at a lower pay level. Trudeau said at the time that the changes would not mean any increases to employment insurance premiums.

Harper Announces Successful Conclusion Of Trans-Pacific Partnership Negotiations , Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the successful conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. This agreement has been reached almost 28 years to the day after Canada concluded our first-ever freetrade agreement with another country, the United States. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is the largest free-trade agreement in history, represented by a 12-nation market of nearly 800 million customers The Prime Minister announced that a re-elected Conservative Government would ratify and implement this historic agreement. He noted that, as with all trade agreements, TPP would be subject to full Parliamentary review and approval before it is passed and brought into force. “In a global economy, there is no more certain way to secure long-term economic growth and prosperity and to protect and create good, well-paying jobs for Canadians than by expanding markets for job-creating Canadian businesses,” the Prime Minister said.
• The TransPacific Partnership agreement will protect and create Canadian jobs, and grow every sector of our economy by giving Canadian businesses access to some of the most dynamic markets in the world. • Canada will now be the only G7 nation with free trade access to all of the US and Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific continents – that’s over 60% of the world’s economy. • Our 11 partner countries have a combined GDP of nearly $30 trillion – that’s 14 times the size of the Canadian economy. • The TPP gives us access to new markets where we don’t currently have free-trade agreements – like Japan, the world’s 3rd largest economy – and it strengthens our partnership with our NAFTA partners. • Every sector and region of the Canadian economy will benefit from the TPP, including the auto sector, agriculture, and our supply-managed
agricultural sectors. • With the successful conclusion of TPP, our Conservative Government has increased Canadian free-trade agreements from five to 51 countries. • More than one in five Canadian jobs is linked directly to exports. “Unlike the Liberals who have almost no record on trade, or the NDP who have vowed to rip up the deal, Conservatives know that Canadian exporters can compete with the best the world has to offer, and win,” the Prime Minister said. “Canada’s Conservative governments have created virtually all of Canada’s free-trade access to the world and we will continue to open up new markets for Canadian businesses and workers.”
Man dead after being hit at bus shelter
SURREY: A man is dead after being struck by a car while he was waiting at a bus stop on Wednesday morning. At about 9:30 a.m., a 17-year-old girl was heading south in a black Jeep on 156 Street and attempted to negotiate a left turn onto Fraser Highway. The Jeep jumped a curb and smashed into a bus shelter where as 22year-old man was waiting. Police say the man was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has succumbed to his injuries. The girl who was driving remained at the scene and is cooperating with police with information about the crash. She sustained minor injuries in the crash. Mounties say that intoxicants are not believed to be a factor, but wet road conditions are believed to have contributed to the crash. Police are urging drivers to be a bit more cautious as we head into the wet season. "Definitely when the roads are wet, people have to take more care," said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Cheating isn’t so serious when done on Facebook Know what made Washington D.C, Oct 5 (ANI): A team of researchers exploring how players bend the rules in social media games and judge others for doing the same has found that cheaters sometimes prosper on Facebook. What does it mean to cheat in a Facebook game like FarmVille? Is it any different from breaking the rules in a traditional videogame like World of Warcraft? New research shows that players often dismiss the seriousness of social network games, meaning cheating isn't so serious when it's done on Facebook. Concordia communications researchers Mia Consalvo and Irene Serrano Vazquez polled 151 social media gamers between the ages of 18 and 70. They asked them to respond to questions about why people would choose to cheat on a social media game. They wanted to know how do players define cheating in general? How do players define cheating in social
network games? What cheating-related practices do players engage in while playing social network games? And how is cheating in social network games conceptualized differently by players, compared to cheating in more traditional console- and PC-based games? Clearly, rules are not the same thing for every player, says Consalvo, adding that for some participants, specific actions or practices do not determine what is cheating, instead, they
define cheating by the purposes or motives behind those actions or practices. The majority of survey respondents reported at least some kind of cheating: they admitted to playing social network games to help friends (65 per cent) or family members (58.3 per cent) advance their scores, and to asking friends (52.1 per cent) or family (50 per cent) to play a social network game in order to advance their own scores, and to adding strangers (53.9 per cent) to do the same. A high number of participants admitted to purchasing currency to advance play (40.2 per cent), creating multiple accounts (31.1 per cent) and logging into someone else's account (20.6 per cent). The use of cheat codes, a means of cheating requiring greater technical skill, was a much rarer practice among participants, only 8.2 per cent admitted to doing so.
Chinese President Jinping ‘says no’ to naming Zuckerberg’s unborn child Shanghai: (ANI): Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was left disappointed when Chinese President Xi Jinping refused his request to name his unborn child at a White House dinner last week. With Facebook still banned in China, the President remained unyielding to Zuckerberg as he turned down his request for a Chinese name for his child, the shanghaiist.com said. Zuckerberg was seated at the head table with United States President Barack Obama and his family and Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the state dinner, which was attended by several figures from the US tech and
media sectors. According to reports, Zuckerberg spoke in Mandarin to the president, asking him whether or not he would do him and his wife the honor of giving his child an honorary Chinese name. Xi reportedly turned down the request to put forward a name for the Facebook founder's unborn baby girl, saying that it would be "too much responsibility." Other guests at the state dinner included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and and Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. (ANI)
Elle Macpherson change her lifestyle
Washington D.C., Oct. 5(ANI): The lump on Elle Macpherson’s breast worked as a warning alarm in her life that made her change her diet and lifestyle. Though it was a sigh of relief for the 49-year-old model when she found out that lump was not a result of cancer and was not life threatening, it definitely worked as a wakeup call for her that made her realise that she was taking wrong vitamins and mineral along with being stressed, reports the Inquisitr. Macpherson said that her doctor explained to her that her high acid diet might be the culprit in her case and she also advised her to stop taking synthetic supplements and eliminate stress from her life. However, after knowing her condition, the model has been sleeping more, eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water and eating less red meat. (ANI)

Good relationship between siblings can keep risky behaviors at bay NEWYORK, (ANI): Parents, you may want to encourage your children to spend more time with each other as a recent study suggests that relationship quality affects siblings’ mental health and risky behaviors. The University of Missouri researcher found sibling relationship quality in adolescence affects Mexicanorigin adolescents' and young adults' later depressive symptoms and their involvement in risky behaviors, including those with sexual risk. Similar to work with EuropeanAmerican and African-American families, researchers found adolescents with sibling relationships characterized as positive or negative, and they also found a group that they labeled 'affect-intense' because siblings in this group experienced moderate levels of intimacy and negativity, said researcher Sarah Killoren. Research shows Mexican-origin siblings spend more time with their brothers and sisters than with their parents and their peers during adolescence." Older siblings who had positive relationships with their younger siblings had the fewest depressive symptoms and engaged in the lowest levels of risky behaviors. Overall, siblings with positive relationships engaged in less risky behaviors, whereas siblings with negative relationships engaged in more risky behaviors. Younger siblings who had a negative relationship with an older, opposite-sex sibling had increased sexual risk behaviors. Killoren said parents also play an important role in socializing their children to value family. Parents should encourage their children to spend time with their brothers and sisters, to be positive role models for their siblings and to take care of each other. By instilling those values, parents can encourage positive sibling relationships that children will want to maintain throughout adulthood, Killoren said. The study appears in International Journal of Behavioral Development. (ANI)

Surrey Six accused pleads guilty to drug and gun charges surrey: One of the men charged in connection to the Surrey Six murders has pleaded guilty to seven separate drugand weapons-related charges. Sophon Sek was charged in March (alongside numerous co-accused) with a string of drug trafficking, possession and firearms offences alleged to have taken place in Surrey between June and September 2014. The charges came after raids that led to a cache of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and other drugs, as well as money, guns and ammunition. Last Thursday (Oct. 1), Sek pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition. He originally faced 20 charges. The drug and weapons offences took place while Sek was on bail, as he faces manslaughter and break and enter charges in connection with the October 2007 murder of six men in a Surrey apartment – a mass slaying now commonly referred to as the Surrey Six case. He was released from custody on bail in early 2010, three months after being charged with manslaughter, and was to adhere to several conditions.

California school shooting forestalled after 4 teen plotters got busted Washington D.C, (ANI): Tragedy was averted at Summerville High School in Tuolumne, California after a student plot to conduct a mass shooting was foiled. The Tuolumne County Sheriff Jim Mele on Saturday told the media that four students at Summerville High School were arrested for allegedly plotting a school shooting, claiming that the students involved were planning to come on campus and shoot and kill as many people as possible, People magazine reported. After the Summerville High School administration contacted the sheriff's office on Wednesday to report three of the students, who were identified by classmates who found their behavior suspicious, the authorities immediately launched an investigation that involved interviews with the suspects, as well as
school staff and students, and two search warrants. Mele stated that during the investigation the sheriff's office says that they discovered that a fourth student was involved, adding that detectives located evidence verifying a plot to shoot staff and students at Summerville High School. The sheriff noted that the suspects' plan was very detailed in nature and included names of would-be victims,
locations and the methods in which the plan was to be carried out. Mele said although no weapons were found as it was the early stages of the alleged plot, this was a very serious threat, noting that families of all the four plotters were cooperative during the investigation. Summerville Union High School District Superintendent Robert Griffith said that within a very short period of time the school district knew they didn't have an immediate threat to safety, which is why the school didn't go into lockdown, adding that "about 1,000" phone messages were sent to parents relaying information about the incident. Pointing out that there is no further threat to students or staff at Summerville, Mele added that the names of the suspects will not be released as they're juveniles. (ANI)

They also found that when treated with stimulant medications, patients
had significant improvements in ADHD symptoms as measured by standardized rating scales. Children with congenital heart disease are at high risk for ADHD, but fears about cardiovascular side effects,
including sudden death, limit the use of stimulant medications, says senior author Julia Anixt. Anixt added that this study indicates that stimulants are both effective and safe when prescribed with appropriate monitoring and in collaboration with the patient's cardiologist. The study was presented at the annual meeting of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics in Las Vegas. (ANI)

Get up and start walking if you want to live longer Washington, (ANI): A new study has revealed that any physical activity everyday can make you live longer. Lead author Emmanuel Stamatakis of the University of Sydney said that with only 24 hours in each day, the study shows that we must choose to spend our time wisely, adding that this was a first look at what happened when we replace one activity with an equal amount of another. Stamatakis said that with the average person sitting and watching two to three hours of TV a day, there was definitely scope for people to get off the couch and be more active. In the study, researchers used statistical modelling of health-related data from over 200,000 randomly sampled middle-aged and older people who took part in the over a four year period. Researchers found that replacing one hour of sitting with sleeping each day, in those who were not getting enough sleep, was linked to a six percent decrease in premature death risk. They also found that risk of an early death was increased by between 13 and 17 percent when one hour of daily walking or exercise was substituted with equal amounts of sitting or any other sedentary activity. Stamatakis said the important thing for people to remember was the more
they move the better, even if this movement was incidental or at a light intensity. He concluded that it could be as simple as kicking a ball with your kids in the backyard, going for a walk in the
neighbourhood instead of watching another hour of TV, or walking your dog for an extra half an hour a day. The study is published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. (ANI)

Justin Bieber asks fans to ‘respect’ him Pop star Justin Bieber wants fans to show respect to him whenever they ask him for a photograph. The 21-year-old, who is here to promote his latest single "What do you mean?", took to Snapchat on Sunday to address his fans' habit when they asked him to take photographs together, reports aceshowbiz.com. The Snapchat video did not show Bieber anywhere but it showed the city's scenery outside a car's window. While the camera was capturing the scenery of the city, Bieber's voice could be heard talking about how he wanted to be treated if his fans wanted to take photographs with him. "The way you ask or approach me when you want a photo with me is
going to determine if I take a photo or
not," Bieber warned. "If I'm walking somewhere or arriving somewhere and you guys are asking me to take a photo, if I don't respond, if I continue to keep walking, the likelihood is that I probably don't want to take a photo at that moment," he explained. The singer then addressed his fans' habit when they asked him to take photos together. "Now, if you start screaming louder that's not going to make me take a photo more. I want to enjoy the moment like you're enjoying the moment but I can't enjoy it if I'm not feeling like there's any respect given to me that moment," he said.. By Santa Banta News Network
Why is Tyga unhappy with girlfriend Kylie Jenner? Rapper Tyga is not happy about his girlfriend Kylie Jenner's habit of posting everything on Snapchat. In new videos posted Saturday, the 25-year-old rapper told Kylie that he just didn't want to be on the video messaging application, reports aceshowbiz.com. “Oh my god! Why do you post everything? Damn, you're killing me!” Tyga exclaimed after he realised that Kylie took a video of him using Snapchat. While Tyga looked annoyed by Kylie's behavior, the 18-year-old reality TV star could be heard laughing at him. Another video showed Tyga plotting a revenge to Kylie. “You wouldn't like that if I posted you and s**t, right?” he said. Kylie then started using her foot to playfully mess with him while asking him to stop explaining her plan. The rapper then said: $So stop filming me on Snapchat.”
Following the second video, Kylie posted another video showing her teasing her boyfriend about his sudden silence. Kylie playfully put her foot on Tyga who looked focused reading something on his mobile phone. "Why so mad?" she asked. "I'm not mad, I just don't want to be on Snapchat. Damn," Tyga said while smiling. Tyga seemingly wants some privacy
Roots
after a Snapchat video posted earlier in the week sparked engagement rumours. At that time, he allegedly referred to Kylie as his fiancee. However, the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star soon denied the rumours, saying that he was only poking fun at a video he posted on photosharing app Instagram earlier that day.. 'Katti Batti' - Convoluted, cliched and confusing Imagine you are riding an unruly mare who trots tossing you about, and then after nearly two hour fifteen minutes of a tumultuous and awful ride, reaches you at your destination, safe and sound. That is exactly what you would experience while watching Director Nikhil Advani's "Katti Batti". On the face of it, "Katti Batti" is supposed to be a rom-com between a diehard romantic and a commitment-phobic girl, at least that's what the trailers promised. But what you get is a potpourri of emotional trajectories offered in a nonlinear, confusing and obscure manner. Narrated from Madhav Kabra (Imran Khan) aka Maddy's point of view, the narration begins with an inexplicable, found footage technique revealing his live-in relationship with Payal Malhotra (Kangana Ranaut). And then we are suddenly thrown into the emergency ward of a hospital where the doctors and Maddy's friends are trying to revive him after his alleged suicide attempt. After Maddy is successfully revived, we learn that his drinking Phenyl was an accident. And what follows is Maddy's pursuit to convince his ladylove to be friends with him once again. Their onand-off relationship has now hit rock bottom after 5 years of living together. Kangana and Imran make a lovely, volatile pair. Their on-screen chemistry is palpable. On the performance front, the film is Imran Khan's canvas. His is the only character that is well etched. With his look recollecting the charm of Dilton
from Archie's comics, Imran is honest, charming and expressively convincing. You like him when he woos his girlfriend, admire him when he sticks to his guns and hate him when he is boorish and callous. On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut as Payal Malhotra who comes from a
broken family, is an extension of the various roles you have seen Kangana perform in her earlier films. She brings nothing new to the table, except for confidently carrying herself off with a plethora of outlandish wigs, in the staid role. Of the supporting cast, Vivan
Bhatena is wasted in a bland role as Payal's ex-boyfriend, Ricky Ahuja. And Manavsi Mamgai as Devika, Maddy's colleague is passable. But the two characters who really stand out with realistic performances are Maddy's sister Koyel and his friend Vinay. And with the director's sense of infusing humour, the rest of the supporting cast like Varghese Bhai the estate agent, Mr. Ramalingam - Maddy's south Indian boss, the paan chewing security guard at Payal's house in Delhi and the salesman at Maddy's school friend Tina's shop, are forced caricatures, who are duds with their over-the-top histrionics. The script written by director Nikhil Advani and Anshul Singhal has a convoluted screenplay riddled with forced humour and glaring plot holes which include underdeveloped characterisations. -By Santa Banta News Network
Rohit Shetty's special gift for SRK It's surely 'dhoom machale' for Shah Rukh Khan, who has got a new ride and a fancy one. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has gifted a Harley Davidson bike to the superstar. "Rohit gets me a new set of wheels to ride to work everyday. Hawk. Beemer. Harley. We don't walk the talk on 'Dilwale' sets," SRK tweeted. The actor also shared a black and white image with him sitting on his new bike.
Meanwhile, Shetty has managed to do a casting coup by bringing Shah Rukh and Kajol together after 2010-release "My Name is Khan". "Dilwale" has been shot in Bulgaria, Hyderabad and Iceland. The movie, which is slated to hit the theatres on December 18, also features Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Boman Irani and Vinod Khanna. -By Santa Banta News Network

'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon' - Hackneyed plot, bland humoura Karan, one of the characters in the film often says, "Tumne science to padhi hogi; agar nahin, toh phir to tum yeh aur acche se samjhoge (you must have studied science; if not, then you would understand this even better)." Well, I am quite sure this logic applies to the film "Kis Kisko Pyar Karoon" as well, which obviously lacks rationale and logic. Coming from the stable of director duo, Abbas-Mustan of "Baazigar" fame, one steps in the theatre with a lot of expectations. But a few minutes into the film, and one realises it is a mere extension of "Comedy Nights with Kapil" and the protagonist Kumar Shiv Ram Kishen aka Bholu, (Kapil Sharma) is delivering some funny lines in a two-hour long film, supposedly replete with situational comedy. A man with a kind heart and an altruistic bent of mind, he ends up saving damsels in distress and in the bargain adds to the stress in his life. He is forced to marry three women
Movie Review:
whose lives he has saved from difficult situations, yet, it is a fourth who he loves and wants to marry. With his three wives labelled as head office, branch office, area office and girlfriend as inquiry office, he adroitly juggles his time with all four women and this forms the crux of the film. However, Kapil Sharma, the hugely popular stand-up comedian, is a
disappointment as an actor. He merely delivers his lines sans any intonation or expression. His presence is like being on his TV show and not the character he essays in the film. He lacks conviction and energy, adds no nuance to his role and has a weak screen presence. His drunken scene on the terrace on the eve of Karwa chauth, is particularly a let-down, with Kapil hamming in a very cliched tone devoid of emotions as is the climax scene, where he mouths emotional platitudes. His three wives, Juhi (Manjari Phadnis), Simran (Simran Kaur Mundi) and Anjali (Sai Lokur) and girlfriend Deepika (Elli Avaram) add nothing to the film by way of performances. They are there for the glamour quotient and to hold the premise of the film together. The humour comes in the form of witty dialogues and the situations, albeit oft seen and forced, with no logical links.
Perhaps the dialogue writer is the sole saviour, as he manages to write some genuinely funny lines that evoke some laughter. The dialogues like "Bhagwan aisa pati sabko de (God should give such a husband to every woman)" and "Kabhi kissi aurat ka dil mat dukhana aur kissi ka ghar mat todna (Never break the heart of a woman and never break someone's home)" are used as leitmotifs. The characters are flat and badly etched. The lawyer friend Karan (Varun Sharma) and the servant (Jamie Lever) are the two actors who deliver and add weightage to their not-so-well written roles merely by the strength of their performances. Arbaaz Khan as the hard-of-hearing brother-cum-don, Tiger bhai, ends up arousing laughter by default owing to the character he plays. Manoj Joshi as Deepika's father is naturally brilliant. Supriya Pathak and Sharat Saxena, as KSRK's parents, have nothing much to do, but being veterans, essay their characters effortlessly. The music adds no relief to the viewing experience and is equally forced and jarring with a deliberate Punjabi flavour to it, as if to suit Kapil Sharma's personality. At the end of the film, KSRK asks his friend Karan, "Batao mere saath kya hua? Tragedy ya comedy? (Tell me, what happened to me? Tragedy or comedy?)" Perhaps that's the question with which, the audience leaves the theatre too. -By Santa Banta News Network

4 simple tips for budget friendly school lunches (NC) Packing a lunch for you kids can be a delicate balance of creating something that tastes good, is healthy and nutritious and cost effective. But meeting all of these criteria doesn't have to break the bank, follow these tips and tricks to create an easy-to-make, affordable and delicious school lunch for your kids: Pack smart. Instead of putting each snack into different baggies, which can get expensive fast, group foods together in Tupperware's for a bento-box style lunch.
The best part is that by lunch time it'll be thawed out and ready for drinking.
Keep cool. Freezing your kids' favourite juice or large water bottle is a
smart way to keep your family's lunch box cool without investing in an icepack.
Fuel up with a fiesta of a breakfast sandwich (NC) Start your morning with these deliciously messy, all-out breakfast sandwiches inspired by traditional Mexican flavours. Meat eaters can kick this sandwich up a notch by adding bacon - a salty and savoury combination with the peanut butter. Serve with hot sauce to add some heat. Mexican-Style Breakfast Sandwich Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 3 minutes Makes 2 sandwiches Ingredients: 1 tsp (5 ml) white or cider vinegar (optional), 1/3 cup (75 mL) canned black beans, drained or rinsed, 2 tsp (10 ml) lime juice, Pinch each cumin and salt, 3 tbsp (45 ml) coriander, coarsely chopped and divided, 3 tbsp (45 ml) peanut butter, 2 tbsp (30
ml) mayonnaise, 1 tbsp (15 ml) canned adobo peppers in adobo sauce, chopped, 2 eggs, 2 whole wheat English muffins, 2 slices crisp cooked bacon, broken in half (optional), 2 to 4 thin tomato slices. Directions 1. Bring a medium pot of water and vinegar to a simmer (vinegar helps the eggs to set). Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, use a fork to coarsely mash the
beans with lime juice, cumin and salt. Stir in half the coriander. In a small bowl, stir peanut butter with mayonnaise and adobo peppers. 2. Crack one egg into a small ramekin or bowl. Slide egg into simmering water. Repeat with the second egg. Simmer for 3 minutes. While eggs are cooking, split and toast English muffins. Remove eggs, one at a time, using a slotted spoon. Pat dry with paper towel and set on a plate. 3. Spread both sides of English muffins with peanut butter mixture. Top base with bacon if using, then tomato slices, dollops of black bean mash, egg and coriander. Finish with tops of English muffins to form 2 sandwiches. Tip: Swap out the poached egg for a fried or scrambled egg, if preferred
Get creative with leftovers. Making use of leftovers from last night can be a great way to minimize waste and keep lunches interesting. Try using leftover roasted chicken for a fun-Mexican style burrito or quesadilla. Go techy. Check for savings on lunch box items by using Zweet, the new generation app for grocery cash back rewards. Rather than spending hours clipping coupons to take with you into the store, Zweet allows you to save on different products every week. This new app was designed to replace cumbersome grocery coupons with a user-friendly model where you merely snap a shot of your receipt, upload to Zweet's mobile app and see savings accumulate in your account within 24 hours. Once you hit the $20 mark, you can request to have a cheque mailed. A sweet way to save! This fun, healthy and walletfriendly lunch is perfect to make for your kids to stay on budget and keep them fueled for the whole day.

Top tips to avoid coughs Home insurance from $15/month and colds at school $W 6TXDUH 2QH \RX JHW DÎ?RUGDEOH UDWHV DQG \RX Decide what property to insure so you only pay for what you need. Receive critical earthquake, sewer backup and water damage protection. Pay monthly from your bank account or credit card. Get a free quote in just 15 minutes. Call now! (NC) With kids back to their regular routine of school and extracurricular activities, families often struggle to keep everyone healthy during the dreaded cough and cold season. Here are a few tips to keep your kids germ-free: • Start off with getting a good night's sleep. Take cues from physical signs of sleepiness (yawning, difficulty focusing your eyes, a lack of concentration), indicating that it's time to go to bed. • Be active as often as possible. Make exercise a priority for both you and your family's physiological and psychological health. For parents and children who stay active it's common, to experience some post exercise pain or even injury. When injuries or pain occur, try relieving muscle pain by applying a topical like Arnicare Gel. The gel, which contains arnica montana and other medicinal ingredients, temporarily relieves muscle pain and reduces swelling and bruising. • Adopt healthy eating habits to feel better, naturally. As you get your children ready for school, make a fresh start with healthy foods to nourish their brains and help them grow. • The fall means the start of the cold season. Look for a homeopathic medicine such as Coryzalia to relieve cold symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose and acute rhinitis in children ages one month and up and adults alike. • Nasal and skin irritations often accompany runny noses and congestion. Cicadermine is a homeopathic, antibiotic-free solution, to soothe skin and facilitate healing of irritations, such as chapped skin, superficial wounds and redness from constant wiping and blowing. • When stubborn coughs arise, many parents think that they are out of treatment options for their younger children. But there is a solution available to relieve coughs in children under six. NEW Stodal is a homeopathic honey-based PRODUCT cough syrup used to effectively relieve both dry and wet coughs in children from one to 11 years of age. How to stay safe on your ride to work (NC) There are several dangers that drivers need to look out for on the road. From pedestrians, to distracted drivers, to construction there is an array of factors that can lead to accidents. While the daily commute to school or work may seem routine, CN reminds motorists to take special care at grade crossings, where serious rail incidents can occur.. There were 180 crossing accidents in Canada in 2014, with 21 of these resulting in fatalities and 25 resulting in serious injuries. “These tragedies can be prevented simply by obeying the crossing signals,” says Stephen Covey, the chief of police for CN. “Trains cannot stop quickly and they cannot swerve to avoid a collision. Safety is very much a shared responsibility if we are to reduce accidents. The public must do their part in observing the rules at all times. It is important to remember that when you see tracks, think trains.” Some basic rail safety rules to

remember: • Never walk or play on train tracks. It's dangerous and illegal. • Never play or stay near a stopped train.
• Cross train tracks at designated highway/railroad crossings. • Look for signals and respect them. • Be prepared to stop at crossings. • Cross the tracks in low gear; do

not change gears while crossing. • Stalled vehicle? Get out quickly and move away from the vehicle and tracks. • Listen for warning bells and whistles when approaching a crossing. • Remember one train can hide another. • Keep the CN police number handy: 1-800-465-9239. CN police work year-round to reduce trespassing incidents, fatalities and injuries, by conducting safety initiatives at commuter stations, intermodal terminals and railway crossings in Canada and the United States. Rail commuter stations are also visited to target a larger audience of rail users, particularly parents who are urged to pass on safety information to their children.
Car emergency kits can be a life saver
(NC) No matter where you drive, something could go wrong. It could be a flat tire, getting stuck in traffic, an accident, a car break down, or sliding into a ditch on a less travelled road. This is why it is important to always be prepared and part of being prepared involves having an emergency kit. Having an emergency kit in your car can be very helpful when you are in a bind. “Even if you have road side assistance coverage you may have to wait a while for help to arrive, especially in poor weather conditions,” says Wayne Ross, an insurance and claims expert for Aviva Canada “An emergency kit can help make things more comfortable while you are waiting for assistance.” While there is no limit to what items you can include in your emergency kit, here are a number of things that Ross suggests you need: • A cell phone (if you don't carry one with you); • A first aid kit; • Bottled water and snacks; • A blanket, gloves, and additional warm clothing for the winter months; • Flashlight and batteries; • Tire gauge and jumper cables; • A small tool kit. This is a minimum. Depending on your specific situation, you may include other items based on your driving frequency and the climate where you drive. Regardless of how often and where you drive, having an emergency kit is common sense. If you don't have one already, investing in one could be a lifesaver.
