source revealed. Through the movie, the dera plans to reach the international audience. “The movie will be dubbed in several Indian languages and will be released in theatres across the country. For the international audience, it will be dubbed in English as well,â€? the dera source added. The dera chief had recently thrown hints. “The movie is aimed at generating awareness about the various humanitarian drives‌. While the

storyline draws completely from the truth, all the ingredients of action, suspense and drama are being added to make it interesting, Singh had said. Director Arora, who has worked with several Bollywood stars, is confident the movie will click. “It is a very rich project. I can only see a superhit in the making, he said. On the acting skills of the dera chief, Arora added, “As an actor, he is superb. I can say that he is a one-take actor. His dialogues and emotions flow so naturally that you don’t even realise he is acting. The shooting crew along with the technical experts, around 60 of them, are camping in the dera these days. The movie has so far been shot in and around Sirsa. A few sequences will be shot in southern parts of the country, sources said. “Due to our hectic work schedules, we are accustomed to smoking and drinking after we are done for the day. However, it has been nearly 16 days since we are shooting here in the dera, and none of us has touched cigarettes or drinks, a crew member said.

VICTORIA – The B.C. Liberals are allowing rates to skyrocket at ICBC, making life even less affordable for British Columbians, say the New Democrats. “The 5.2-per-cent hike proposed today follows years of hikes by Premier Christy Clark’s government, said New Democrat ICBC spokesperson Mable Elmore. “While she has been premier, her government has brought in big rate hikes in three out of four years, increasing rates by a total of 23 per cent – that’s $140 more every year for the average driver. Because of ICBC’s policy of rate smoothing, drivers can expect a rate hike next year that is within 1.5 per cent of this year’s – that could mean yet another hike of as much as 6.7 per cent. “This hike is just another blow to affordability in this province, said New Democrat finance spokesperson Carole James. “While Premier Clark claims that she is not raising taxes, her government is quietly raising hidden taxes that take money directly from the pockets of British Columbians.

They said it will be a mix of spirituality and entertainment, with a social message at the end. It will also cover several social initiatives in which the dera is involved, they said. The movie will have five or six songs — all written and sung by the dera chief himself. The sources said Singh has also given the storyline for the movie, which is funded by the dera itself and is being directed by Jeetu Arora, who has directed several television serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Sources said Singh has also directed the movie in bits and parts. A Malayalee actress, who has acted in several South Indian movies as well as popular Hindi serials, is playing the lead opposite the dera chief. The dera authorities refused to divulge details of the script or and the name of actress. A highlight of the movie will be a sequence on a live concert. “Guruji held a three-day concert at the Shah Satnam Ji Stadium in Sirsa from August 16. It was attended by around 1.25 lakh followers. Surrey girl, 9, lured out of open bedroom window and sexually assaulted Surrey: A nine-year-old girl was lured out of her open bedroom window and sexually assaulted in a nearby park by an unknown man, Surrey RCMP said Thursday. On August 27, 2014 at approximately 10:40pm Surrey RCMP received a report from a mother who stated that her 9 year old daughter had been abducted from her bedroom in the family home where she was sleeping then sexually assaulted and left alone in a nearby yard. Upon police arrival at the home in the 9900 block of 128 Street, investigators learned that the 9 year old girl was lured out her open bedroom window by an unknown male. The male took the girl to a nearby park where it is alleged that she was sexually assaulted. She was then taken to a nearby yard of a neighbourhood home and told by the suspect to remain there while the male departed. Moments later the girl fled to her residence and sought help from her mother. The girl was taken to the hospital where she will be cared for by medical professionals. Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit is conducting the investigation with the assistance of

Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section and additional investigative units. Police will be at the scene and throughout the neighbourhood for the balance of this day and likely tomorrow knocking on doors looking to identify anyone that may have seen something out of the ordinary overnight. At this point of the investigation this incident does not appear to have any links to the South Surrey sex assault on August 18th or the White Rock incident 11 days prior to that. However, as it is still very early in this investigation police

Six people seriously injured after tour bus crashes on Coquihalla CKNW 980-Merritt RCMP confirm six people are in serious condition after a tour bus crashed in Merritt. Police say at least 40 people were on board. Not much more information is known, but Sergeant Norm Flemming says the initial report was that it happened 30 kilometres south on the Coquihalla Highway. “My guys are on scene, but right now, they’re running around, putting things together. We’re trying to close highways and get enough room to actually work up there.” Michaela Swan with Interior Health says Royal Inland Hospital is now under a Code Orange. “During a Code Orange response, staff in critical areas of the hospital are preparing to receive — right now, we’re estimating 40 patients from this accident.” The highway is closed southbound.

Hours before mediator Vince Ready began meeting with BCTF president Jim Iker and B.C. Public School Employers' Association chief negotiator Peter Cameron in Richmond on Thursday afternoon, Fassbender made the request. "Mr. Iker told me that he could not commit to suspending his pickets during mediation because it would require him to first canvass all of his members," Fassbender said. "Today, I am asking Mr. Iker and the BCTF leadership to canvass teachers in advance of September 2 on the idea of suspending their pickets if Vince Ready is engaged in mediation."

Two-week truce in B.C. teachers strike proposed by province The province has proposed a twoweek truce with striking teachers to at least allow B.C. schools to reopen as scheduled next week while a mediated settlement is pursued. “I invited the lead negotiators, Mr. Iker and Mr. Cameron, to meet with me today because we all want to resolve this strike. We want to see students in school next Tuesday said Education Minister Peter Fassbender. “To make that happen, both sides need to focus on the issues that can be mediated and settled immediately and set aside some matters that will be dealt with by the courts says Minister Fassbender. “I proposed three specific steps to reach a settlement and clear the way for students to go back to school on schedule, he said. “First, I asked the parties to set aside the matter of potential grievances stemming from

Education Minister Peter Fassbender

Justice Griffin’s decision. “The demand on

grievances is nearly a quarter of a billion dollars a year. This matter is before the courts and will be addressed through the appeals process. “I’m not asking the BCTF to do anything prejudicial to their court case, but setting this issue aside as the appeals process takes place gives mediation a chance to succeed. “Second, I urged the parties to get into mediation as soon as possible. “I made it clear that setting aside the grievances is not a precondition for mediation but I stated my belief that doing so would allow negotiations to focus squarely on the key issues at hand: teachers’ wages and class size and composition. “My hope is that it would move the parties into a zone where mediator Vince Ready sees an opportunity to start productive mediation.

A group of more than 600 hot girls, aged 20 to 35, from the town Noiva do Cordeiro, in south-east Brazil, has made an appeal to the world wide eligible bachelors to visit their town. Nelma Fernandes, one of the members of the predominately female settlement, said that they only met men who were either married or related to them, the Daily Star reported. Fernandes, asserted that women here had not kissed a man for a long time, and they did not want to leave their hometown to live their dream of “falling in love and getting married.” Fernandes further added that they wanted the guys to live according to them in their “prettier, more organized and more harmonious” town that the girls were looking after, suggesting women could be better than men in a lot of things. The settlement was founded by Maria Senhorinha de Lima after she was named wanton and got excommunicated by the Catholic Church in 1891 for leaving a man she was forced to marry. (ANI)

Dog (and cat) days in politics

Exceptional education opportunities await B.C.’s post-secondary students As the fall semester draws near, more than 430,000 students from every corner of British Columbia are making plans for the future and preparing to hit the booksat one of our 25 public postsecondary institutions. This is an exciting time for them and an exciting time for our province. As the new and returning students prepare to head to class, former students will tell them they’ll be getting an A+ education. This week the government of B.C. released new survey results from 30,000 former post-secondary students that show their experience with B.C.’s public post-secondary system was exceptional. Annual survey results from a variety of educational areas of focus consistently show that ourpublic post-secondary institutions do a great job of providing the right mix of education and training for students, and help set the stage for students’ success. Overall, 86 percent of employed respondents indicated that the knowledge and skills they acquired in their studies were useful to them in performing their jobs.

Canada house prices to rise further, crash fears rising By Anu Bararia (Reuters) - The risk of a property market crash in Canada has not ebbed, according to an increasing number of analysts polled by Reuters who said chances of a steep fall in prices have increased in the past year. Still, the survey medians showed house prices will likely rise more than earlier expected at least until 2017, reflecting ongoing reluctance by forecasters, many of whom work for mortgage lenders, to predict negative returns on property. This year Canadian home prices on average will appreciate by 5 percent followed by a 2 percent rise in 2015 and then again in 2016 after doubling in value over the past decade.

Jennifer Aniston hits back at constant baby rumours By Deborah Cicurel Jennifer Aniston is one of the most speculated about pregnant/not-pregnant women in the world - and she's sick of it. We can't say we blame her. On the Today show, Jennifer told host Carson Daly that her worth as a woman should not be based on whether she is married or pregnant. "It is such an issue of, like, 'Are you married yet? Are you going to have your babies yet?' It's just constant. It's like, I don't know!" Jen said. "I don't have this sort of checklist of things that have to be done, and if they're not checked, then I've failed some part of my feminism or my value

as a woman because I haven't birthed a child," she added. "I've birthed a lot of things and feel like I've mothered many things, and I don't think it's fair to put that pressure on people." You hear - don't ask the lady if she's pregnant any more! Jennifer also talked about how she feels she has grown and changed through film."I feel like I've grown up three times," she said. "I've had an incredible evolution. I keep seeing all these little lifetimes that I've lived and they're all so wonderful."I don't have this sort of checklist of things that have to be done.

Rapper, singer and composer Yo Yo Honey Singh has launched his new music album "Desi Kalakaar". He says it has a romantic flavour to it. The album was launched at an event Tuesday. It will be available exclusively on digital music destination Hungama. "This album has less party songs. There is no alcohol song in it. It is a very romantic and dance-based album. It is something new from Yo Yo Honey. A new avatar of him as 'Desi Kalakaar'," said the rapper, who has churned out hits like "Blue Eyes", "Brown rang" and "Dope shope" in the past. By Deborah Cicurel Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married Saturday in France, reported The Associated Press. A spokesman for the couple has confirmed the news. According to reports, the couple got married on

Saturday in a small chapel in a private ceremony attended by family and friends. In advance of the nondenominational civil ceremony, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie also obtained a marriage license from a local California judge. The judge also conducted the ceremony in France. The couple's children took part in the wedding. Jolie walked the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox and Pax. Zahara and Vivienne threw petals. Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers, the spokesman says. And you can forget the sunny Maldives, it looks like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie scrapped the honeymoon and went straight back to work. Brad is currently here in the UK, looking gorgeous at the photo call for his new film Fury held at Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset, England. The 50-year-old actor was joined by his co-stars Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, director David Ayer, and producer Bill Block. He tried to hide the bling on his wedding finger, keeping his hands in his pocket, but when Brad left the venue, the shutterbugs got their money shot.

Baby boomers call for national strategy for seniors care A recent report from the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) says a majority of Baby Boomers are calling for a national strategy for seniors care. “The good news is that more and more Canadians are living to be old. The bad news is that over the age of 80, the chances of having a dementing illness increase dramatically,” says SFU

gerontology professor emerita Gloria Gutman. “While the CMA survey didn't single out doctors, there is a major need to increase the number of geriatricians in this country. What works for middle-aged adults doesn't necessarily work for older people. Geriatrics is a specialty that looks at the whole person not just body parts.”

• Data speeds increase up to 45% on Canada's largest LTE network • Even faster mobile access to the Internet and apps like Bell Mobile TV • Bell extending the world's fastest mobile network technology to rural and remote locations across Canada MONTRÉAL, Bell announced this week that it has increased 4G LTE network speeds up to 45%, giving customers even faster mobile access to the Internet and apps like mobile TV on Canada's largest LTE network. "Bell is committed to bringing the world's best wireless communications technologies to Canadians everywhere, and we're proud to announce significantly faster mobile data speeds in more places." said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility. More than 4 in 5 Canadians can now access Bell's 4G LTE service, and we're growing coverage to over 98% of the population by the end of 2015 with our LTE rollouts to rural and remote locations across the country." Bell LTE download speeds have increased from 75 Megabits per second (expected average 12-25 Mbps) to 110 Mbps (14-36 Mbps), with speed as high as 150 Mbps (18-40 Mbps) available in some locations.

Since 2006, Bell has invested approximately $7 billion to acquire mobile 4G spectrum and build advanced wireless networks in every region of Canada. As a result, Canadians are rapidly adopting smartphones and becoming world leaders in usage of services like mobile video. Bell Mobile TV has grown to become Canada's leading mobile video service with more than 1.5 million subscribers across the country. Bell plans to grow 4G LTE coverage from 82% of the national population to more than 98% with service rollouts to small towns, rural locations and Canada's North over the next 15 months. The company has already announced itsLTE plans for rural Atlantic Canada (52 new locations this year and more than 100 by the end of 2015), and will continue to announce new coverage locations in regions across Canada in coming months. Bell is Canada's largest communications company, providing consumers and business customers with wireless, TV, Internet, home phone and business communications services. Burger King Worldwide Inc announces deal to buy Tim Hortons CLAIRE BROWNELL The Whopper and the Timbit have officially agreed to come together, with Burger King Worldwide Inc. announcing it has reached a deal to buy Tim Hortons Inc. Americans are so chauvinistic. They tend to think, Oh, an American company bought or is merging with a smaller Canadian company. The reverse is true here. The boards of directors of both companies have unanimously approved the acquisition, which would put the headquarters of the world’s thirdlargest fast food company in Canada. The terms of the $12.5-billion deal stipulate that Tim Hortons shareholders are to receive $65.50 in cash and 0.8025 common shares of the new company per Tim Hortons share. Tim Hortons shares jumped more than 10% in pre-market trading Tuesday morning after surging to a new all-time high Monday after the companies confirmed they were in takeover talks.

The combined company would have US $23-billion in sales and more than 18,000 restaurants in 100 countries, according to the release announcing the agreement. Under the deal, Burger King CEO Daniel Schwartz will become CEO of the new company. Tim Hortons President and CEO Marc Caira’s proposed new position is vice-chairman and director.

Canadian Finance Minister Joe Oliver gave a muted response to the news, saying regulators would have to evaluate whether it would provide a net benefit to the country. Many observers have suggested the deal was motivated by a desire to take advantage of Canada’s lower corporate tax rate, although executives at both companies deny it.

A Chinese expert has claimed that pandas fake pregnancies to have a better lifestyle. Recently experts at Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Centre, who were preparing for a six-year-old panda to give birth, were shocked after their panda Ai Hin suddenly stopped showing signs of pregnancy, Metro.co.uk reported. Wu Kongju, an expert at the CGPBRC said that ‘phantom pregnancies’ are very common among pandas and pandas suspected of being pregnant at the breeding centre were given their own airconditioned rooms, round-the-clock attention, and other ‘enrichment programmes’. Wu added that they also receive more buns, fruits and bamboo, so some clever pandas have used this to their advantage to improve their quality of life. (ANI)

It is quite easy now to tell yourself fibs or lies so be sure you are not deceiving yourself. Such acts of deception are a deceitful trait.

Nothing is out of the ordinary this week as your money seems to be going out as fast as it comes in. (“Same old story”) Hopefully you are catching up on your old bills and not foolishly spending it. All of your bothersome domestic chores are taking up your time. If any arguments come (Apr. 20- may 20) along, you will win as you have all the communication skills that are needed. Some call it the gift of gab.

Do not start or even anticipate an argument now because someone will escalate it into a real full blown knock down drag out fight. Walk away! (Another choice would be RUN away!) Dear SOS Dear SOS: My cousin from India married a man from Surrey. The boy’s family had gone to India and through some friends the families were introduced to my cousin’s family. My cousin is the youngest in her family and also the only sister of two brothers. She has been raised in a very loving family. She was educated in a very expensive convent school. She is a gentle and a very beautiful girl. Our families were very happy to find a good match for her. She arrived in Canada 8 months ago. I have talked to her on the phone but I live in another province and haven’t been able to visit her. Finally, last month I came to visit her. My cousin, 22 years old girl, with big dreams is now a completely different person than who she was in India. Her dreams had been totally shattered. She has a master’s degree and her husband is a truck driver who did not ever

She can’t openly talk on the phone as someone is always listening in on the other line. Upon arriving in Canada her in-laws found her a cleanup job. Now this degree holder is a janitor. She works six days a week. Even at work her supervisor who also happens to be a relative of her in-laws drops her off at work expecting her to finish work quickly without taking any breaks. She never has time to make friends with anyone. She has no driver license as she has no proper ID. She told me that she has not even received her PR Card. Because of that she can’t even learn to drive. She doesn’t want her family in India to know what kind of life she is living in Canada because

But I know it’s not what she wants or hopes. She just wants a better life. But a number of times she has tried talking to her husband about what she wants but he just tells her she can’t do anything as she has no proper papers. She told me he tells her this is the best she can do, as even her education is useless in Canada and they can’t afford to send her to school. Which he says will be a waste of money as her job is to have kids and look after the house. It’s his job to provide the money. I told her that I am here for her if she needs anything. Should she decide to leave him she has a place to stay with me. My reason for sharing this story is to tell your readers about the other side as to why some wives from India leave their husbands after being in Canada for only a short time. Your cousin needs her family’s support. She also needs to know about the Canadian laws. She should have received her PR Card within a month or two of arriving in Canada. She needs to find out what happened to her card. She also needs some close friends to rely on. Her family also need to know the truth about her life in Canada. As she doesn’t really have much access to anyone, and it might be best if you can get her some contact numbers, such as Motor Vehicle Branch, Government number to enquire about PR Card, Government funded Employment agencies, Provincial or federal contact number to have her education credential assessed to see how she can get a job in her field of study. She also needs to openly talk with her husband and his family and let them know she needs to get her driver license and find a job in her field of interest.

Seven of the worst things you can do to damage your car By Brian Turner Time and again, we ignore or do certain things to our vehicles that will almost always result in massive repair bills. For all the expense, worry, and inconvenience of automotive maintenance and repairs, you’d think we would know better. But time and again, we ignore or do certain things to our vehicles that will almost always drive repair bills into the stratosphere. And no matter how highly rated or reliable your daily drive is, no matter how “bullet proof” you think it might be, these very simple things will roll any vehicle into an early grave: Curb your enthusiasm The No. 1 way to incur a hefty bill (especially in the winter) is to slide sideways into a curb or other solid object. This popular manoeuvre, usually caused by overestimating a vehicle’s traction, or triggering oversteer or understeer, will destroy tires and rims, cause wheel hub bearings to get noisy, bend any number of suspension or steering components and generally throw your vehicle’s alignment and your credit card balance out of whack. This is such a common winter occurrence that repair-shop owners actually celebrate the season’s first freezing rain. Don’t go to pot

The second most popular way to send your auto technician into financial bliss is to run full-steam, damn the torpedoes, through a pothole. If it’s deep and wide enough, your vehicle’s suspension won’t have time to react and the leading wheel will hit the front edge of the hole with enough force to duplicate the damage that curb kisses cause Water

inside the passenger cabin of their vehicles for safekeeping. After all, if these components need a safe and dry place to live, where better than the sheltered interior? If you manage to reach your vehicle before the water hits Noah’s mark, or you’ve driven through particularly deep water after a storm, you may be left with soaked carpets that will saturate underpadding and seat upholstery and give

When you reach for your raincoat, you might as well grab your wallet, too. Many automakers stuff a lot of expensive and sensitive electronics

birth to mould. Lots of it. To reduce the mould, and the odours from it, vacuum the floor thoroughly with a wet-vac, then place several layers of newspaper on top of the carpet to soak up surface moisture. You may have to repeat this process several times. To dry out the underpadding, remove the plastic sill trim pieces and lift the carpet up and stick a brick or thick piece of wood under it to hold it off the floor (or, better, remove it altogether.) Leave it this way in a dry covered parking area with the windows open to let the outside air dry things out. Again, you may have to repeat this several times. And you may have to replace the carpet and padding altogether. Stay out of the tow-zone

The Internet is full of videos about idiots trying to pull a buddy’s truck out of the ditch with their sub-compact tuner or trying to move a log or boulder with their sport-ute during a home landscaping project. The reason these videos are so popular is they almost always end up with a bumper or under-carriage component getting ripped off, or a tow cable flying through a back window followed by the uncontrollable laughter of bystanders. and mechanical devices. If your vehicle has developed a leak of any type, ignoring it, or failing to keep that particular lifeblood topped up will certainly lead to serious expense. If your vehicle’s engine is leaking or burning oil and falls to a critical level, lubricantdependant parts such as crankshaft or camshaft bearings, or pistons and valves will quickly burn out. Leave things long enough and you’ll soon be hearing the rat-a-tat swan song of an engine on its last legs — just before it delivers its final gasp and comes to a grinding halt. Then for the lack of a few minutes of time and a few dollars worth of oil, you’ll be looking at the need for a new, remanufactured, or pre-owned engine and a bill that can range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more. A power steering fluid leak left unattended until the reservoir runs dry will not only cost you the price of fixing the original leak but replacing the pump as well, not to mention the safety risk in losing steering power assist. About the only thing worse than not enough fluid, is too much. Add too much auto transmission fluid, for example, and the fluid will aerate and foam leading to a host of shifting problems. Low pressure Rolling around on under-inflated tires is a sure way to increase your monthly car bills and increase the risk of a blowout to boot. Tire sidewalls are particularly susceptible to damage when the tire pressure isn’t correct (refer to the info label on the driver’s door frame or your owner’s manual for the right specs). When tires lose pressure, as they will over time, their internal temperatures rise if the pressure is low enough. All it takes is one bad bump in the road or a turn to cause a blowout with little or no warning. If your vehicle isn’t equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, check the pressures at least once a month. It will also help improve fuel economy. Let there be light, just not on the dash Today’s autos come with more warning lights than we care to count or sometimes even pay attention to. But ignoring these little icons can bring something as inconsequential as slightly higher emissions all the way to something more serious as the failure of an air bag or anti-lock braking system (things you’d rather not learn about in the case of a collision or panic stop). If you’re faced with an unfamiliar warning light, check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to see what it means. If you want to do a little self-sleuthing, automotive parts stores have a great selection of lowcost DIY scanners that can decipher most engine and transmission diagnostic codes. Some will even help out with antilock brake or air bag codes. If the yellow engine light comes on, stop and do exactly what the light is telling you: Check the engine.
