Is Surrey becoming a capital of crime?
Five targeted shootings in last two days Statement from Officer in Charge regarding shooting investigations Over the past two days Surrey has experienced 5 shootings and 1 male from Langley was found with injuries sustained from an unrelated shooting on the Surrey/Langley border. These incidents are of great concern and I want to assure the public that we are actively investigating each of these files. The 6 occurrences resulted in 3 injured males who all attended hospital and have since been released. The victims have been primarily uncooperative with police.
Pardip BRAR
This morning a briefing was held with our investigative units as well as other partner agencies. At this point, we believe that all 6 of these shootings were targeted, and 4 are related. The most recent shooting on a residence last night and the Langley male that was shot are not believed to be connected to the first 4 shootings. The 4 related shootings involve people who are involved in low level drug crime. From the intelligence that has been gathered so far, there is nothing to indicate that these incidents are tied to organized gangs. However, these people are clearly violent and have shown a complete disregard for public safety. This is a critical time in our investigation and we are asking anyone with information on any of these events to contact the Surrey RCMP or Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous. Specifically, our investigators are interested in knowing more about the activities of 5 males who are believed to be involved in the 4 related shootings: • Pardip BRAR (Delta resident, age 20)

• Indervir JOHAL (Surrey resident, age 21) • Amrit KULAR (Surrey resident, age 20) • Pardeep SINGH (Surrey resident, age 20) • Sameh MOHAMMED (Surrey resident, age 20) All 5 of these individuals are known to police. In addition, we are looking for 3 vehicles that are believed to be associated to the males and shootings: • Grey Volkswagon PASSAT or JETTA • Black ACURA TL • White sports utility vehicle While we have engaged other law enforcement partners as we typically do during investigations like these, the Surrey RCMP have retained carriage of these investigations. I will reiterate that, at this point, we do not believe that any of these events are tied to high level gang activity. For those involved in these shootings or people who know them - I ask you to think about the safety of your family, friends and the general public. The manner that you have chosen to resolve this dispute is careless and unacceptable. For the citizens of Surrey, I offer you my commitment that we are working extremely hard on all of these events – not only to solve the cases that have occurred but to safeguard against any further incidents. -Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy Timeline: • On March 10 at approximately 4:00AM Surrey RCMP were advised that a male had been dropped off at a local hospital suffering of gunshot injuries. Police attended the hospital and obtained the victims details but were unable to identify the origin of the man’s injuries. The 20 year old man was treated and released from hospital. • On March 10, at 6:45PM Surrey RCMP was advised by BC
Sameh MOHAMMED
Ambulance Service that they were on route to a shooting with a male victim in the area of 127th Street and 78 Avenue. The victim, a 20 year-old Surrey man, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The male has since been released from hospital. • On March 10, at 11:00PM Surrey RCMP received several reports of gunshots heard in the area of 128 Street and 76 Avenue. Police immediately attended the area but all parties had departed. Police were told by witnesses that 4 dark colored vehicles were seen departing the area at a high rate of speed immediately after the sounds of gunshots. Police were able to recover some evidence from this location. • March 11 at 1:30PM Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a white SUV type vehicle that was seen chasing a black Acrua at a high rate of speed and once in the area of 132 Street and 80th Avenue the occupants of the white SUV shot at the black Acura. Both vehicles fled the area immediately. Police recovered shell casing from this area. • On March 11 at approximately 11:50PM Surrey RCMP responded to a call regarding a male with a gunshot injury in the area of 193 Street and 80th Avenue. That male was transported to hospital to be treated for his injuries. The male was identified as a 28 year old Langley man. It has not been determined as to where that shooting took place. This incident appears to be drug related and targeted. • On March 12 at approximately 3:30AM Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the area of 94 Avenue and 126 Street. Once police arrived all parties had departed, there have been no reports of injuries related to this shooting. Police do not feel this instance is related to the shootings for the 10th of March. Police have recovered evidence related to shots being fired from the area.

Statistics Canada says debt to disposable income ratio hits new high The Canadian Press OTTAWA: Statistics Canada says the ratio of household debt to disposable income hit a new high in the fourth quarter as incomes increased at a slower pace than consumer borrowing. The agency Thursday said leverage, as measured by household credit market debt to disposable income, reached 163.3 per cent in the quarter. That means households owed about $1.63 in consumer credit, mortgage, and non-mortgage loans for every dollar of disposable income. Advertisement BMO chief economist Doug Porter said the increased debt is not surprising given the Bank of Canada’s decision to cut its key interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point in January. “This is the thanks consumers get for responding predictably to the incentive of record-low interest rates, and effectively backstopping the economy for the past five years,” Porter said in a report.
However, Porter noted that although debt has been rising, financial assets have too, as stock markets have rebounded and Canadians have been putting more away in their savings accounts. Household net worth rose 0.9 per cent in the fourth quarter, the slowest rate in six quarters.
UK ISPs begin battle against online piracy London: Internet Service Providers in the United Kingdom have begun blocking access to many of the biggest sharing sites that carry illegal content, as per the orders of a high court. They include Pirate Bay. The step is being taken to battle the growth of online piracy. The case was brought before the court by rights holders, and it was agreed that the ISPs would ban sites on a list that could be regularly updated. Rights holders include the music industry body BPI and the Premier League. The BBC quoted the BPI, as saying, “Under existing BPI blocking orders
relating to 63 illegal websites, ISPs are required to block the illegal sites themselves, and proxies and proxy aggregators whose sole or predominant purpose is to give access to the illegal sites.” Among the blocked sites are p i r a t e b a y p r o x y. c o . u k , piratebayproxylist.com and ukbay.org. According to BBC, the operator of UKBay.org, identified just as Dan, told piracy news website TorrentFreak that the new bans were "totally unreasonable". “If they continue blocking sites that link sites, there'll be nothing left," he added. (ANI)
On a per capita basis, household net worth was $233,000 in the fourth quarter. “Amid the cacophony of warnings, balance sheet repair is in fact quietly underway among Canadian households thanks to a slight rise in savings and long-term equity market gains,” Porter said. “While debt growth has perked up again, with the Bank of Canada’s surprise January rate cut adding fuel to the fire, the expected cooling in the housing market — at least in Alberta — should cap mortgage growth.” Canadians’ finances are vulnerable to a shock, for instance a sudden rise in interest rates or overall weakness in the economy, so a slowdown in household debt growth would be “welcome,” Porter said. “Still, the singular focus on debt portrays an overly negative picture of Canadian household finances, which have proven incredibly resilient this cycle and likely still have enough cushion to provide a soft landing for spending in the year ahead.”
Badal wants British teachers to make Punjabis proficient in English
Chandigarh:Punjab students, especially those in rural areas, could soon be dealing in the Queen's language if Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has his way. Badal on Wednesday urged British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond to send a delegation of English school teachers Britain to make students in Punjab, especially with rural background, "proficient in spoken as well as written English". The request was made when the visiting British foreign secretary, who inaugurated the country's deputy high commission here, called on Badal on Wednesday. Badal said the significance of the English language was that it was a "global link" of communication in the world. Both leaders discussed cooperation between Britain and Punjab in the fields of skill development, food processing and power generation from solar and biomass waste. A significant number of Punjabis are settled in Britain since decades.

Pedestrian dead after hit and run in Surrey; police searching for vehicle SURREY - Surrey RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in a fatal pedestrian hit and run collision that occurred earlier this morning in the Bridgeview area of Surrey. At approximately 3:30am on March 12th, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a male down on the side of the roadway in the 11400 block of Bridgeview Drive. The male was transported to local area hospital in critical condition where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Based on the evidence located at the scene and the injuries sustained by the victim, officers believe that the deceased male was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle, possibly a semitruck. The victim was pushing a grocery cart northbound in the 11400 block of Bridgeview Drive before he was struck. The incident is also believed to have occurred shortly before 3:30am based on the information received by those in the area who first arrived on scene. Surrey RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service are still trying to determine the identity of the victim. The victim is described as an adult male in his 30’s or 40’s. Officers with the Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) are continuing to gather evidence including
video surveillance to identify the suspect vehicle. Anyone with further information about this incident including the identity of the victim or the suspect vehicle is

an apparent lack of expert review to determine today’s increase and the baseline for future increases.
“This is a political move that doesn’t actually solve the problem. Annual increases tied to inflation will only ensure minimum wage doesn’t fall further behind,” said “This Andrew Weaver. government hasn’t done enough to ask whether it still has some catching up to do before indexing minimum wage to the B.C. Consumer Price Index.” Today’s announcement contained little information about how this new rate and revision process was developed. There was no
indication that a consultation process with experts and with those who are affected by potential increases took place. “What is needed is a full, independent examination of British Columbia’s minimum wage policy, including advice about how best to determine future wage increases, and to explore what the baseline minimum wage should be,” said Andrew Weaver. “We need to move the decisions about increases into a nonpoliticized environment so they can be about people, not politics.”
Washington (ANI): A new study has observed that cigarette use among white teenagers is substantially higher than among black and Hispanic teenagers, especially at 18 years old. According to Penn State researchers, alcohol and marijuana use are also higher in white teenagers, and the numbers continue to increase until age 20 and throughout their 20s, blacks and Hispanics are more likely to pick up a cigarette-smoking habit, while the numbers start to decrease for whites. Study showed that at 18.5 years old, 44 percent of whites surveyed smoked cigarettes, 27 percent of Hispanics did and 18 percent of blacks, however, at 29 years old, 40 percent of whites were using cigarettes, 30 percent of Hispanics and 31 percent of blacks smoked. Rebecca J. Evans-Polce, postdoctoral fellow, Bennett Pierce Prevention Center, said that the most important point was that there were big age-related differences in substance use by gender and race/ethnicity and in particular, African Americans showed an increased prevalence in cigarette use much later than white adolescents. Evans-Polce and colleagues also found that use of alcohol was higher for males than for females during adolescence. Cigarette and marijuana use were similar between males and females, although slightly higher for male adolescents. The researchers looked at four sets of data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, a survey conducted beginning in 1994, and repeated in 1996, 2001 and 2008 with the same individuals. The researchers used an innovative statistical method to plot the prevalence of substance use among whites, blacks and Hispanics on graphs that tracked the individuals by age and separately plotted the substance use of males and females.

Banning is not the solution
India's Daughter review – This film does what the politicians should be doing This documentary, which focuses on the assault of Jyoti Singh on a bus in Delhi in 2012, may not contain much that will surprise Indians, but its determination to shed light on the country’s rape crisis should inspire change. The immediate controversy surrounded the death-row interview that director Leslee Udwin conducted with Mukesh Singh, the rapist who drove the bus on which Ms Singh was assaulted. It is, of course, chilling to hear him argue that “you can’t clap with one hand”, that a girl who steps out after dark is “more responsible” for rape than a man. But more frightening than the vicious self-justification of this lowlife are the arguments with which the defence lawyers attempt to woo wider society. A 23year-old medical student’s life had been brutally cut short after a trip to the cinema, and yet ML Sharma felt it appropriate to liken women to flowers, beauties which ought to be worshipped in temples, but which would, inevitably, degrade if they sank into the gutter. “In our culture,” he added, “there is no place for women.” Another lawyer, AP Singh, observed that, if his own daughter dabbled in pre-marital relations, he “would put petrol on her and set her alight”. The words of these two educated men cannot and must not be taken as speaking for India as a whole. The world’s largest democracy affords some women prominent roles, and indeed produced one of the first female prime ministers. But Ms Singh’s parents say something revealing when they recall how friends were mystified when they celebrated Jyoti’s birth “as if she were a boy”,
Decisions made in the wake of a popular outcry over emotive and sensitive issues will invariably be wrong. The government’s action in getting a court order restraining the telecast of the documentary, India’s Daughter, by the British film-maker Leslee Udwin, is a knee-jerk response to the outrage voiced by sections of society against what they call giving undue publicity to a convict’s views. While the film-maker notes that she had a ‘no objection’ letter from the Home Ministry and obtained permission from the Tihar Jail authorities to interview the convict, the police have registered an FIR after it became known that the documentary is to be aired by a television news channel on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The work has been banned from public viewing for the sole reason that it contains some repugnant comments by the convict, blaming the victim for the rape and murder. A moot question is whether it is unethical to disseminate the views of a convict, even those as abhorrent as those of Mukesh Singh; and whether banning the reporting of such views is the right response. True, it will be morally repulsive and abominable to hear the convict justifying his horrific crime by blaming the victim and saying she could have survived had she not resisted rape. But it is equally true that there is some public interest in recording such views and airing them in such a
way that it does not glorify, but makes them repugnant. Actually, the documentary may even help the public recognise and counter such thought processes in society. As the documentary is yet to be aired, it may be unfair to prejudge its approach and the level of its success in its being, in Ms. Udwin’s words, ‘an impassioned plea for gender equality’. To presume that it will only strengthen the rapist’s mindset may derail any effort to create a sensitive record of what the country needs — a conscious transition from a culture of tolerance towards gender violence to a progressive sociolegal structure that combats the phenomenon. India now has stronger and better-defined laws; there is greater sensitivity among investigators, prosecutors and judges, but the scope for genuine transformation lies in the larger domain — the attitude and approach of society at large. Documentaries such as this may serve to advance this purpose, and even if they fail to do so, the solution is not to ban such efforts. For they may help confront the culture of rape and the widely seen phenomenon of public figures, officials and politicians conforming to the patriarchal mindset that is at the core of gender violence in India. The documentary should be seen as holding a mirror unto a society that is far from being sensitive to gender issues.
the same something that’s borne out in the large male majority among Indian infants, a gender gap in which selective abortion and even infanticide have surely played a part. Some of the remarks that Ms Udwin coaxes out of Mukesh Singh may be rare, but his claim that “housekeeping and housework are for girls” is one part of his worldview that is anything but unique. The

If the reality is shameful, learn to accept it: Nandita Das on India’s Daughter The BBC documentary India’s Daughter, directed and produced by Leslee Udwin, created quite a furore in the country. After the government banned the film, which tells the story of the infamousDecember 16 rape, it went viral on YouTube. The main grouse many raised against it was that the documentary, in which Udwin has interviewed one of the rapists Mukesh Singh, gives him a platform to justify his act. As usual, the internet is divided into two camps–one that is rampantly sharing the YouTube link to the documentary and the other that is congratulating the government on the ban agreeing to Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s claim that the film is part of the white man’s conspiracy to shame India. Unfortunately for those who haven’t managed to watch it yet, the documentary has now been blocked by YouTube in India stating a court order which it received. Long Live Cinema spoke to actor-filmmaker Nandita Das about the documentary and the ban and here’s what she had to say. Ban deprives us of right to make a choice Firstly, why ban this film or any film for that matter. The reason, as far as I know, the government has given is
that one of the culprits and their lawyers are making misogynistic statements in the film and that defames us as Indians! This is ridiculous and it shows that they have clearly missed the point. I haven’t seen the film yet, but from what I have heard from people who have seen it and from what I have read about it, India’s Daughter, in fact, seems to be bringing to light the various realities of the society we live in. It has once again showed us that there are people like Mukesh Singh among us, who live around us. Even if we keep the debate on this particular documentary aside, I firmly believe that everybody has a right to watch and decide what they want to take away from it. With bans like this, the authorities are depriving us of our right to make a choice. In any case anybody can watch it online, so why the fuss. Acknowledge the problem Bringing back the documentary into the picture, the Nirbhaya case is one of the most important causes that united us in recent times. So many of us–men, women and children–took to the streets to demand a life of dignity for all women and for us to be able to live without fear anywhere in the

country. Banning a documentary that is about this sensitive issue and forces us to see our misogynistic side is not even acknowledging the problem. Face the shameful reality Another thing I don’t understand is this argument about India’s Daughter being a propaganda film to shame India in front of the world. I have also been accused of doing this. When we began shooting for Water, some right-wing groups had the same problem. They said we were trying to paint an ugly picture of India to the world. Now, if the reality is shameful, how does shying away from facing it help? How does pushing it under the carpet and acting like nothing is wrong help? Is protecting an image more important than trying to alter the ugly reality? By banning the documentary, does the reality that there is violence against women in our society change? One woman is raped here every 20 minutes. It is a fact, and we better do something about it. It is high time we stopped worrying about images in the world, as they will change when the reality becomes better. Such films should make us introspect and find solutions do a deep-rooted problem. I am not fully aware of the legal implications of screening the film now and need to understand from the prominent lawyers and activists, but fundamentally they, too, don’t support a ban. A ban is never the solution, but just an excuse to hide behind the violent, vulgar realities of our every day lives.
Sudoku Solutions for last Issue
The sudoku puzzle is mostly a 9-by9 grid made up of 3-by-3 subgrids. Some cells already contain numbers, known as givens. The goal is to fill in the empty cells, one number in each, so that each column, row, and region contains the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once. Each number in the solution therefore occurs only once. in each of three "directions". Or you can say there is only one rule. Every row, every column and every 3-by-3 subgrid should contain digits 1 to 9 only.

Expert says ‘key challenge’ being faced by IS ‘more internal than external’ Washington: (ANI): Embroiled in dissent, defections and setbacks on the battlefield, the Islamic State (IS) is beset with internal crisis, an expert has said. Lina Khatib, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, said that the “key challenge” being faced by the IS right now was more “internal than external” and added that it demonstrated a failure of the central tenet of IS ideology, which aimed to unite people of different origins under the caliphate. She said that it has made the terror group “less effective in governing and less effective in military operations.” The internal crisis faced by the terror group has defused its strength and eroded its aura of invincibility among those living under its dictatorial rule, reported The Washington Post. Reports of rising tensions between foreign and local fighters, aggressive and increasingly unsuccessful attempts to recruit local citizens for the front lines and a series of guerilla attacks on IS targets suggest that the terror group is having a hard time sustaining its “carefully cultivated image” of a gruesome, invincible force uniting Muslims under one umbrella. Reports have also suggested growing signs of friction between foreigners lured by its state-building experiment and local recruits, who have grown resentful of the preferential treatment meted out to the expatriates, including higher salaries and better living conditions. Public executions, a core component of Islamic State discipline, have been extended to about 120 of its own members, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Washington: A new study has revealed that workplace exertion, having high blood pressure, and taking multiple medications are among health risks that may reduce male fertility. Senior author Germaine Buck Louis of NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development said that nearly 15 percent of U.S. couples do not become pregnant in their first year of trying, adding that male infertility plays a significant role, and our aim is to explore the influence of environmental factors and health status on semen quality. Semen quality is a measure of a man’s ability to achieve fertilization and is based on the number, shape, and movement ability of sperm, as well as other factors.
Facebook facing ‘anti-discrimination class action’ over pedophile’s boastful comments on platform Melbourne (ANI): After a convicted pedophile posted comments boasting about his crime on Facebook, the social media platform is set to face an antidiscrimination class action. The 58-year-old man was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail by Tasmania's Supreme Court for having sex with a girl aged under 17, which is the age of consent in the state, reported News.com.au. He was freed in March 2013 and remains on the state's child sex offender list. After his release, the man gloated about his crime on Facebook by saying that he was the envy of many men across Australia. In response to his activity on the social media website, Sexual Assault Support Service chief Liz Little, along with Tasmania's Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, has decided to file a representative class action suit against the man, Facebook and the state's Parole Board.
Workplace exertion, hypertension, multiple meds may undermine men’s fertility
Of the men who reported receiving a physician’s diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol, the researchers found that only those with high blood pressure had a lower percentage of normally shaped sperm, compared to men who reported no high blood pressure. Michael L. Eisenberg added that as men are having children later in life, the importance of diseases people once thought as separate from fertility must be re-explored. Future investigations need to examine whether it’s the high blood pressure itself or the treatment that is driving these trends. To that end, the researchers observed that the more medications a man reported taking, the higher his risk of a low sperm count. Of the men who reported taking two or more medications, 15 percent had sperm counts below 39 million.
Little argued that the act prohibited people from doing things that may be hurtful or shameful for a victim of sexual abuse, adding that it could also amount to victimisation under the antidiscrimination act. She said his comments were “demeaning and vilified the girl.” Little said that the action was being lodged on behalf of young victims of sexual
abuse. She said that while signing up for Facebook, when people select “No” on being asked if they’re sexual offenders, what does Facebook do to check if they’re telling the truth. The case is expected to be lodged this week. Facebook said on Monday that the person’s profile had been deactivated
NIH’s Buck Louis said that the good news is that these factors, if they are confirmed to have negative effects on male fertility, can potentially be modified by medical care or changing job-related behaviors. They look forward to additional research in this area. The results are published online in Fertility and Sterility (ANI)

Apna Roots, March 13th, 2015
Mars in your sign, means the need for you to be decisive and to take action is has been increasing. It also brings more hustle and bustle around you. More stamina may be (Mar. (Mar.2121- April April 19) needed but vitality tends to improve and, whether you like it or not, the goals and objectives are more obvious. Definitely the time to get the ball rolling on things – or just keep up! As Mars is about initiating things, whether you choose it or not, this is a time to be more dynamic and physically active and get on with what needs doing either out of choice or necessity. Because your energies are turned inwards, you are more easily affected by outside influences and can get sucked into other people’s stuff, their moods and opinions, so just be more self-protective at this time. Pay attention to dreams, visions, omens and coincidences. Mars here will also underpin (Apr. 20- may 20) practices like yoga, meditation, clairvoyance or healing, or indeed anything which takes you out of yourself so you sustain the energy and enthusiasm you need to be of service where necessary. You will tend to be the initiator with projects or you have a lot on your plate because of a group with interests or aims in common. Mars can be a bit pushy, so, on the flip side, there may be tensions between you and a friend or associate. Due to certain others, life becomes more demanding or annoying (May 21-June 21) and you may have to be on the ball, competitive and decisive. Just avoid being hasty and don’t allow others to tire you out or push you into something you don’t want. This is a more progressive phase when things which have been shelved, sometimes for a long time, can start to move forwards again. Mercury is expanding your mind and you should be entertaining options outside of the box. Discussions and or paperwork could be related to travel, higher learning or another type of unfamiliar environment. You’ll tend ( June 22-July 22) to be thinking bigger and becoming more aware of fresh potential, or a distant horizon. A plan may be forming in your mind.
Dear SOS Dear SOS: My wife passed
New potentials are in the wind from the 21st. The Sun is in a more outgoing, expansive area tending to raise the spirits and you see fresh possibilities outside of the routine box. Time (July23-Aug 23-Aug (July 22)22) to make plans and launch projects. Some of you may have itchy feet, and with the vibrations increasing opportunities to escape the daily grind, this is a good time to get out and about more and try new things. Travel or distant horizons could be emphasized. You will have to meet family obligations and get along with others in a community or neighbourhood – any of which may be lacking in some way. Anything you have just been tolerating regarding your domestic setup, place on the map or with family or (Aug. 23 extended family members will now need your Sept. 22) attention especially as loose ends from the past may emerge in the present. Saturn is challenging you to work more consistently and routinely at speaking, writing, media, education, short distance travel. You should be developing communication and people skills – perhaps integrating a new knowledge or dealing more (Sept. (Sept.23 23-Oct. -Oct.23) 23) with deadlines or steadily growing your database. Maybe you are developing your people, writing or speaking skills or being more creative with your self-expression through art. Communications equipment or vehicles might pose problems at times. Any of the beforementioned areas may be key to your success over the longterm. Jupiter will be in your area of career and overall life direction until next August. This means more doors swinging open, but not all will be leading to your highest good or worldly success, and you could be puzzling over which is the best way to go. It’s more (Oct. 24 - Nov. 21) likely you could gain more recognition and (Oct. 24 - Nov. 21) be learning new things professionally. By the end of the transit you should feel more established in your field or the die is cast regarding your general direction and that will be the time when you can identify more with what you do for a living.

Until next August, Jupiter will be working happily out of his own house in your solar chart – the ninth. During this more serious time in your life, this is very good news for you Sagittarius. Single Dad in Surrey Dear Single Dad in Surrey: There is nothing wrong with you moving on with your life. But you have responsibilities to your children and your friend has responsibilities towards her child. Don’t rush into anything. It’s too soon for your friend to move in with you. The parents are right in sense that your kids are at a crucial age. You don’t want them to feel that someone has become more important in your life than them. What you need to do is to make sure that your friend and your children spend more time with each other. Do things together, then introduce her child to your children. Both families should spend some months interacting and bonding with each other. Then see how kids get along with each other. See how kids respond to her. You can then ask them their opinion as to how they feel about your friend and her daughter moving in. If there is any hesitation on the part of the kids then more time is needed. And you need to find out why the kids feel like that. But You need to assure your kids they will always remain a priority in your life. Don’t rush into anything. If there is any doubt get professional help, see a counsellor or a therapist if you require help. Good luck.

Use this handy spring cleaning checklist (NC) After the long Canadian winter, there's something about this time of year that inspires us to throw open our windows and let the fresh breeze in. Spring is an ideal time to de-clutter and infuse renewed energy into our living space. A complete spring clean overhaul can take days of course, so plan accordingly and set a realistic schedule. The following tips will soon have your home dust-free:
vent. Be ruthless with the contents of your fridge and throw out anything old, or furry. Defrost your freezer, empty the contents and wipe the inside with a mix of a litre of hot water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. • In the bedroom, flip your mattress and edit your wardrobe. Store away winter garments until the next season and get rid of clothes you haven't worn for more than a year; don't save them for “someday”.
• Before you begin cleaning, categorize the list of jobs required (e.g. cleaning baseboards, organizing cupboards, washing curtains). Although it seems easier to tackle all the vacuuming at once, completing one room at a time will give you the satisfaction to continue. • Begin with dusting and vacuuming surfaces—from ceiling to baseboards—as well as chandeliers, light bulbs and light fixtures. Spring cleaning does require a little old fashioned elbow grease. Scrub floors with a scrubbing brush and cleaning solution, clean the
grout on tiled floors. If you don't already own one, rent a steam cleaner for carpets.
and wash or dry clean. Wipe wooden blinds with a gentle wood cleaner, wash aluminum blinds outdoors where they can dry. Clean the inside of windows.
• Take down window treatments

• As a rule, work from the top down, so areas don't get dirty again. However, when it comes to washing walls, it is easier to start from the bottom using a sponge mop. This way, you can more easily clean up any drips.
• Organize bookshelves and storage cabinets. Spring cleaning is a good time to donate unused or unwanted items. One place you can donate is to a ReStore of homebuilding organization, Habitat for Humanity. It accepts everything from furniture, household products, to even the kitchen sink. And ReStores provide a tax receipt for the value of your donation. You can find one in your community at www.habitat.ca/restore. • Spring cleaning is also an ideal time to safely dispose of expired medications and replace batteries in your smoke detector. Once the work is done, open the windows wide and let that fresh spring air in.
• In the kitchen, thoroughly clean the tops of cabinets, fridges and stove

5 quick tips for healthy winter skin as dehydration, while promoting blood circulation to the skin. Advancements today help. For example, using the Brita Water Filtration System makes it easy to get eight to 10 glasses of great tasting water a day. . 2. Eat Healthy – Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can improve skin conditions in a matter of weeks. Incorporating foods like salmon, walnuts, olive oil, kidney beans and flaxseeds in our diets not only
contributes to skin appearing rejuvenated but also to a sense of overall well-being. 3. Moisturize – A heavier moisturizer can act as a barrier between skin and the cold elements when outdoors, and as a protectant from the dry heat indoors. Moisturize skin immediately after showering to seal in dampness. 4. Break a Sweat – Sweating is
a natural way of eliminating toxic chemicals that can build up under the skin. Regular exercise maintains healthy circulation and blood flow throughout the body – essential for glowing skin. 5. Invest – A humidifier is a great way to reintroduce moisture back into the home where many dry skin problems occur. Leave it on at night while sleeping and reap the benefits all season long through regular use.
Food safety tips for pregnant women (NC) A plan of action to combat dryness requires far more than slathering the body with lotion. Healthy skin calls for both internal and external care, especially in months of prolonged cold weather. Here are five of best ways to do it: 1. Hydrate – Drinking water is more important than ever during the winter. Your unborn baby's immune system is also not developed enough to fight off harmful foodborne bacteria. It is estimated that there are approximately 4 million cases of foodborne illness (also known as food poisoning) in Canada every year. It's especially important for pregnant women to pay attention to food safety. What you should do: • Clean: Wash your hands and kitchen surfaces often with warm, soapy water. Machine wash your reusable grocery bags and cloth bags frequently, especially after using them to carry fresh produce, meat, poultry, and seafood or
items other than food. • Separate: Make sure to always separate raw foods, such as meat and eggs, from cooked foods and vegetables. • Cook: Always cook food to the safe internal temperature. You can find a list of safe internal cooking temperatures on healthycanadians.gc.ca. Check cooking temperatures by using a digital food thermometer. • Chill: Always refrigerate food and leftovers promptly at 4°C (40oF) or below. Defrost raw meat, poultry and fish in the refrigerator, in the microwave, or immersed in cold water (replaced every 30 minutes) within sealed packaging, never at room temperature. Foods defrosted in the microwave should be cooked immediately. Don't refreeze thawed food. What you eat is important: Some foods are at higher risk for foodborne bacteria contamination than
others. Here are some good tips for pregnant women to follow: • Don't eat raw or undercooked meat, poultry and seafood. • Avoid refrigerated smoked seafood, raw sprouts, unpasteurized juice, cider and milk. • Avoid all unpasteurized and pasteurized soft, semi-soft and blueveined cheeses. • Avoid refrigerated pâtés, meat spread, non-dried deli meat and hot dogs straight from the package without further heating. • Avoid uncooked foods made from raw or unpasteurized eggs. If you would like to read more about food safety for pregnant women, more information is available on the Government of Canada website: (healthycanadians.gc.ca). In the '90s, the industry used to be buzzing with stories of Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty's 'affair'. Romance apparently blossomed on the sets of their 1994 film 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari', and who could miss their sizzling chemistry in the 'Chura Ke Dil Mera' chartbuster? However, things soured between them and their relationship ended on a bitter note Shilpa alleged that the Khiladi was two-timing her. Needless to say, they did not work together again. However, this seems to be in the distant past now. Akshay has teamed up with his ex-flame's hubby Raj Kundra for a business venture. Recently, the trio came together to announce their celebrity-driven home-shopping channel. Almost seven years ago, when Shilpa was hosting 'Bigg Boss', the two had shared the dais when Akshay had been invited to announce the winner of the reality show. At that time, the first signs of the ice thawing had started to show. Last year, Shilpa had invited his wife Twinkle Khanna to her son's birthday party.

India-set 'Marigold Hotel' opens strong at US box office India-set comedy "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" opened strong at number three at the US box office with an estimated $8.6 million in its first weekend of release. India-themed films rarely climb this high on the US box office charts, according to data released by its distributor Fox Searchlight. Even Hollywood studio films such as "Life of Pi", "The Hundred Foot Journey", and "Million Dollar Arm" never made it to the top three at any time during their runs despite playing in more theatres than Marigold. "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is the follow-up to the 2012 hit "The
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" which opened in the US in limited release in 27 theatres before building up interest word-of-mouth
and eventually reaching nearly 1,300 theatres nationwide. It spent seven weeks in the top ten -peaking at number six -- and finished its US run with $46.4 million. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Dev Patel, Tina Desai and Lillete Dubey, among others, returned for the sequel which added Richard Gere to the cast. The new film also scored the highest average gross of any film in wide release averaging $5,467 from 1,573 theatres. After the success of the opening weekend, "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" will add more than 200 additional theatres to its run on the second weekend.
Lady Gaga planning family wedding
Singer Lady Gaga reportedly wants her wedding to be `a family celebration". According to a source, the 28-year-old, who got engaged to actor Taylor Kinney on February 14 after four years of dating, wants to serve her guests food from her parents' Italian restaurant Joanne Trattoria based here, reports femalefirst.co.uk. `She's just coming up with ideas now. She's asked her sister Natali to be the maid of honour, and her dad can't wait to walk her down the aisle,` US Weekly magazine quoted the source as saying. `They want it to be a family celebration,` the source added. Gaga, who is said to be eager to marry at her $23 million mansion in Malibu, California, later this year, has also started making her guest-list and plans to invite her friend and singing legend Elton John, 67, to the event, as well as Tony Bennett. She released an album of duets, `Cheek to Cheek`, with Bennett last year and has reportedly asked him to perform the title track at her reception.
