From the Principal’s Desk
The first term has literally ‘flown’ and our pupils, related families and staff are no doubt looking forward to the forthcoming holidays. The ‘Hopper’ which was our traditional term end magazine has been resurrected and it is hoped that you will enjoy perusing its contents. On the academic front, our School has once again attained outstanding Conquesta English and Mathematics results. Glenwood Preparatory’s Grade 4-7 Olympiad entrants achieved results that places the school in the Top 1% of all Southern African Private & State Schools (+/- 1350) that wrote these English and Maths higher order tests. My congratulations go to the pupils, families and staff for the excellence attained. The management has recently received the International Benchmark Tests (IBT) English and Maths results that our Grade 3 and 6 pupils wrote towards the end of 2013. Whilst these results are outlined in more detail in my term end circular, it is very pleasing to note that Glenwood Prep’s standard of English and Maths is extremely high and well above the norm of both South African and International Standards. Special congratulations also go to Mrs Val MacGarry and the School Literature Quiz team for their excellent showing in the highly competitive Durban & District Lit Quiz. This is an excellent indication of the fact that ‘reading for pleasure’ receives prominence at Glenwood Prep. The first term has also seen some excellent performances from our aquatics teams and all swimmers can be proud of their achievements. Similarly the Action Netball teams have all excelled to once again, retain the coveted ‘Top Action Netball’ school trophy. May I, on behalf of all connected to Glenwood Preparatory School, congratulate our Swimming and Action Netball teams for the outstanding successes achieved during the first term. They have raised the bar even higher and can be proud of their hard earned successes. In addition, the cricket season has provided a number of close and exciting finishes and the coaches and cricketers are to be congratulated on their efforts. The Netball/Astro Hockey complex building continues unabated and it is expected that this much awaited facility will be completed at the end of July 2014. May I in conclusion, thank all our parents for their continued support as well as the Glenwood Prep staff team who continue to give of their very best in all aspects of school life. We appreciate their pursuit of excellence and applaud their efforts. It is hoped that the Glenwood Preparatory School Community will enjoy the holidays and arrive back refreshed for the challenges, that the second term will bring. Best Wishes Louis Ardé

Term 1 - 2014 has been a very exciting term with many challenges and wonderful opportunities presenting themselves. The staff were very excited to begin a new year and the pupils have settled in well into their new classes. Reading has been the focus this term and the Grade 1 and Grade 3 classes look forward to their weekly “Buddy Reading Sessions”. We celebrated ‘World Read Aloud Day’ in style, by participating in fun reading activities. In addition, S.A National Library Week was thoroughly enjoyed with the J.P classes being paired with the older S.P classes who had written story books to share with them. A highlight for staff, pupils and parents was definitely our ‘J.P picnics’ and ‘Mad hatters picnic’, where we all got to know each other in a more relaxed atmosphere. The U9 boys have excelled on the cricket field, whilst the Grade 2 and 3 swim squads have tested the water at various galas. The Top 8 Gala which was initially postponed due to inclement weather, provided all who attended, a most exciting evening’s swimming. We congratulate all our J.P pupils on a most successful 1st term and trust that all families will enjoy the Easter holidays.
