SUBJECT: APROCTA INFORMS THAT, FROM MAY 6 2011, FROM 01:00 UTC TO 05:00 UTC, AREA CONTROL RADAR SERVICE FOR THE WHOLE CANARIAS FIR/UIR (INCLUDING THE EUR/SAM CORRIDOR) WILL BE PROVIDED FROM THE GRAN CANARIA APPROACH CONTROL POSITION AND UNDER THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF A SINGLE RADAR EXECUTIVE ATCO. APROCTA IS ISSUING THIS SAFETY NOTICE TO ALL USERS OF THE CANARIAS FIR/UIR AIRSPACE IN VIEW OF THE POSSIBILITY THAT THIS SITUATION IS NOT BEING NOTIFIED TO CREWS BY NOTAM, ACCORDINGLY AND IN TIME. BACKGROUND: Due to ATCO staff cuts on night shifts, AENA, the Spanish service provider, is modifying ATC procedures in the Canarias FIR/UIR, thus affecting GCLP approach and departure operations. SAFETY REPORT: 1. NEITHER RADAR VECTORING TO GCLP LOCALIZER NOR RADAR MONITORING DURING APPROACH OR DEPARTURE WILL BE PROVIDED UNDER THIS CONFIGURATION. 2. APROCTA WARNS THAT THIS CIRCUMSTANCE IS ADDED TO CURRENT NAVIGATION RESTRICTIONS OF GDV VOR (E1248/11), THAT REQUIRES RADAR ASISTANCE FOR SEVERAL AWY AND SID/STAR IN CANARIAS FIR (B2584/11).
