Aquaduct Commissioned Decorative Grilles Our Aquaduct brand creates unique and beautiful designs using cutting edge technology, turning functional construction products into pieces of art. Our designed covers can be used for an array of applications including air conditioning, extractor, hit and miss ventilation, radiators and floor registers. These offer interior designers and architects a new and exciting way to design out ugly ready made components. Our covers are designed and manufactured in Britain, and are made using only the highest quality materials available including stainless steel, aluminium, brass and bronze, with a hand polished finish. These base metals can then be applied with an even larger range of finishes including copper, nickel, bronze, gold, powder coated (in any RAL colour) or in the case of aluminium, anodised in a choice of literally hundreds of colours. The covers are available in a range of designs to suit both contemporary and classically styled projects. Our bespoke design service gives you the opportunity to tweak with an existing design, create a new one personalised especially for your client, or you can incorporate a company logo within the cover. The design possibilities available are truly endless. All ventilation covers are constantly overlooked by mass manufacturers, and as a result the options open to designers and architects is limited. Usually they’re made from plaster, plastic or pressed metal, with a simple slot design. These cheapen your project and limit your ability to fulfil your original design intent. Lateral Design Studio’s attention to detail allows you to harmoniously fuse together separate components within your home, from shower drain covers to extractor fans and floor heating registers, using a uniform design or finish. We take our inspiration from the Victorian era where design is equally as important as function. Using their ethos we have reintroduced that designed element, treating each project like a piece of commissioned art. From our design drawings we produce DXF cutting files; the type of cutting technology is selected according to the core material and the finish required by the client. Our architectural quality covers not only mask what are seen as ugly products, they actually turn them into masterpieces.

Aquaduct Commissioned Decorative Grilles Case Studies: Decorative Brass Floor Registers (P1) We were commissioned to design three decorative brass floor registers for a London home. The standard metal slotted type originally supplied, didn’t fit with the client’s aspirations, as their industrial design didn’t match the period of their home. Our pattern had to encompass a floral design so we chose the rose as our subject. We also had to incorporate a Greek centre piece the client had seen on a historic floor vent. We also had to provide a 50% open area for the mechanical unit to function to its optimum performance level. We sketched and scaled the design to work within the floor recess and supplied a powder coated expanded mesh heel guard. The registers can be produced in a wide range of core materials and finishes such as brass, bronze, copper, & powder coated. Decorative Stainless Steel Radiator Box Covers (P2) The oak radiator box with stainless steel ‘rose’ grilles was an extension to the floor register project described above, and the design was carried throughout their home. Usually radiator boxes and their grills are mass produced, using 1mm thick metal with a pattern punched though the covers. Those designs are all generic and would have detracted from both the bespoke joinery and the project as a whole. Our geo squares design is one of the most popular for radiator boxes and window seats, this design can also be seen in a bronze floor register (bottom of P2) Air Conditioning / Ventilation Covers (P4) Our “Marrakesh” air vent cover is a fusion of three individual Moorish designs and was reformed into a circular design for a room vent. This design has even been used in a Wudhu washroom at a mosque in London. Our designer vent covers come in all sizes and can be fitted to replace functional vent covers such as for a gas fire or room ventilation. We were also commissioned to design a replacement for two air conditioning diffusers for the famous L'Etranger restaurant in London, which won a best members club award in 2014. Their standard diffusers were purely about function rather than form. The restaurants’ name was based on a famous French novel written by Albert Camus. We took the original book cover and designed our diffusers to reflect the essence of that cover. We also produced fixtures for their bar area based on the main character “Meursault” carrying the theme throughout the bar components.
