Nic Mercs / V.P. Europe Division The need to better and discover new Technologies is the most important aspect of the human psyche and the key to our ability to adapt and survive in a constantly changing world. The human brain is wired to discover new technologies and to tinker with old ones in order to stream line, simplify, or just make a task easier to complete. This constant need to find a better tool or better protocol of completing a task has set us apart from other intelligence on earth. Technologies are constantly expanding at an exponential rate. Even four to five generations back from the millennials of today, western civilization was seeing rapid changes to the world around them. New technologies have paved an interesting road for the world in the near future. The leaps made in electronics between the 1920’s and now are so vast that the amount of opportunities in future development is almost endless. How will future technologies 10 years from now augment the way we communicate, and how will they change my profession? With all this technological advancement will privacy become a thing of the past? It seems as though technological advancement and privacy have become directly proportional. The more we “plug in,” the less privacy we have. I believe that the way we communicate now won’t change much in the next 10 years. We will still use our speech and hands in order to transcode and decode thought to each other, although the medium we use to communicate those thoughts is subject to change. Take the telephone for example. The telephone was developed on the tail end of the industrial
from A-B. This invention turned out to be one of the most important technological advancements of the entire industrial revolution as well as today. This rather simple technology was used for the better part of century before it was discovered that these same telephone lines used to transmit human voices and thoughts could also send and receive data. I would like to see a technology we use for communication take the same leap of expansion that the telephone made into the Internet. I believe that in the future communication could become tangible; speech is somewhat of an intangible thing.
