RESTO MARYAM Genre: Theatre The play recounts the story of an ambitious man named Jerome who proves himself through his work at a restaurant called Resto Maryam, stirring jealousy in his colleague Majid who enviously decides to harm Jerome. The truth ultimately reveals itself and leads to the conclusion that love and forgiveness cure jealousy and envy. Produced by the OM2 - Le Theatre de Gisele, the play aims to educate kids on virtues like ambition, determination, honesty and charity, as well as celebrate humanitarian and ethical values through messages that call for giving, respect and cooperation.

QALALI FOLK BAND Genre: Traditional Folklore The band transfers their particular heritage, one born in Muharraq’s village of Qalali, to the world through their continuous participation at local and international events. The century-old band performs authentic songs, dances and rhythms that revolve around Bahrain’s rich history that is inseparable from marine life.

MOHAMMED BIN FARIS BAND Genre: Traditional Folklore Consisting of elite musicians from distinguished folk music groups, the band performs various traditional songs part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s cultural heritage. What characterizes their performances from other folk groups is their focus on genres that recall the nation’s pearling past.

BAHRAIN POLICE BAND Genre: Music

Led by Dr. Mubarak Najem, one of the most prominent composers in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the greater Arab world alike, the band participates in royal ceremonies, military and popular celebrations. The music they perform is a blend of sounds, namely military and traditional Bahraini music.

an you tell us a bit about yourself? What made you pursue the business industry you are in right now? I was a senior investment executive with over 15 years’ in-depth experience in structuring and managing complex, diversified investment products and portfolios. Throughout my career, I worked on the conceptualization, origination, structuring and implementation of some of the iconic developments in the MENA region and has managed multi-million dollar deals in such diverse sectors in locations across the GCC, the wider MENA region, the UK and continental Europe. I went on to co-found two marine businesses, Scubalife and Smart Boating and invested, with a view of expansion, a strategic communications and branding company, Vision Gulf.

I started Scubalife in 2015! Initially, I did not see it as business but more of a hobby as I used to dive at any opportunity I got whenever I travelled.

Since I was young, I was always passionate about the sea and enjoyed boating and water sports. As a boat owner, I quickly realized that the Bahraini market didn’t offer many quality products nor professional service. Accordingly, I co-founded Smart Boating Centre with a couple of friends to try to fill the gap in the market.

When was Scubalife founded and what were your goals for creating it? I started Scubalife in 2015! Initially, I did not see it as business but more of a hobby as I used to dive at any opportunity I got whenever I travelled. I wanted to promote scuba diving to like-minded people. Within six months, I saw that many ‘marine leisure’ companies are operating in a similar manner. They are being run by people passionate to the sea and operate on weekends only. I saw a need to have a professionally run sea school and offer tours and adventures to locals, residents and tourists. Today, Scubalife offers various tours, boat rental, yacht charters and fun adventures. There’s a large menu to choose from: Fishing trips, fun dive trips, pearl diving trips and custom boat cruises with a choice of destinations that include Jaradah and Al Dar islands, Amwaj and Manama skyline tours. We also offer provisioning and refreshment packages to order. Other trips include Stand Up Paddleboard tours, kayak fishing, jet-ski tours and snorkeling excursions out to many of Bahrain’s reefs. With five centers located across Bahrain, we can confidently say, that we are the only watersports company in the Kingdom that provides such a complete range of disciplines. Our goal has changed over time. The goal now is to be the preeminent authority of marine leisure tourism in Bahrain. This is being achieved as we are currently one of the preferred suppliers to the major destination management companies and travel agents in Bahrain.

I enjoy trying different types of watersports and always keep an eye on industry advancements. I am an outdoor person, and never enjoyed getting stuck in doors. Various activities provide a sense of adventure and some adrenaline while others can help relax. Plus, it is a great way to meet like-minded people (the social aspect).

Tell us a bit about yourself. What first led you to creating Flow With Ash? I have a unique sense of style that you can’t really find in stores so I started designing clothes for myself. Soon after, my family, friends and acquaintances started asking me to design their own clothing. These humble beginnings inspired me to create Flow With Ash. Who inspired you to create your brand? My mother is my biggest inspiration. She has her own sense of style and would also design her own clothes. Up until this day, I still wear what she designed 20 years ago. In an overly saturated fashion world, what makes FWA different? It’s modest, trendy and one-of-a-kind. I rarely make the same piece twice – except for Ramadan season.

I have a unique sense of style that you can’t really find in stores so I started designing clothes for myself.

Let’s TACO ‘bout it! What is a birria taco? Where can you find it in Bahrain?

irria tacos are mouthwatering, IG-worthy and offer some sense of adventure because they’re something most of us have never tried before!

In our search for some great lockdown eats, we found Taco Muchacos (@tacomuchachos.bh) – a food truck located near El Mercado Mall in Janabiya. The taco truck offers delicious Birria tacos for BD3.7! Birria is a Mexican stew whose history can be traced back to Jalisco. Traditionally, the stew is made with goat’s meat but there are also variations that only use beef. It’s traditionally served in a consomé broth along with a mixture of cilantro and white onion. Birria tacos (tacos de birria) are made of the braised meat inside a tortilla that’s been pan-fried (the tortilla is usually dipped in the broth). The beef is layered with a generous amount of cheese and topped with cilantro, lime and onion! These tacos are served with a side of the rich birria broth that you can use to dip the tacos into or just sip in between bites. We recommend that you try this goodness at least once! As usual, we were trying to find mouthwatering concepts that we can share with you and we stumbled upon @ thesteakersbh’s page. Launched in September 2020, The Steakers was founded by three guys who have a passion for cooking and a skill for grilling, BBQing and smoking beef. According to the founders, they wanted to share their expertise while also satisfying people’s bellies and souls. Scroll down for some more info about them…

What makes their dishes special: Each cut of meat is prepared with utmost care and importance by The Steakers. Most of their items take long hours to cook, particularly pastrami and salt beef (both of which take about a month from start to finish)! They believe that their dishes are special because of their uniqueness and the manner in which they’re complexly simple. Here’s a breakdown of their dishes and the inspiration behind them: Texas BBQ (brisket, ribs, chicken): all smoked on low heat until they are tender and fall apart. They tend to stick to tradition in doing these dishes but their unique touches give them that special edge. Deli sandwiches (pastrami, salt beef): the inspiration for these sandwiches comes from New York and London’s finest delis. Again, they stick to tradition by keeping them deliciously basic with their own special touches. These sandwiches will either make you nostalgic or introduce you to a new world of flavor! Smoked lamb/goat: think of it as ghoozi 2.0, just taking it to the next level, that’s what makes this dish special.

Steaks (Tomahawk/prime rib): their Tomahawk has been coined “The Steakers’ hidden gem” and “the bride of The Steakers”. It is unique in the manner in which it is cooked – it is a process that involves smoke and fire, giving it that unique flavor that, arguably, you wont find anywhere else in Bahrain.
