TREASURES OF THE SEA
Experience the thrill of Bahrain’s rich maritime tradition. Ancient Bahraini Dhow
T
he Kingdom of Bahrain, which literally means ‘two seas’, has a seabased legacy extending back to 1345 AD. Tucked away near the Western coast of the Arabian Gulf in the Middle East, this exotic island’s history is plush with stories of successful pearl exports, and burgeoning fishing and boat building trades.
BAHRAIN SEA FESTIVAL Head to Bahrain Bay to enjoy a first of its kind sea-themed adventure on the island! Exciting activities like virtual reality deepsea diving, dhow making demos, a wall aquarium and interactive sea floor, pearl

jewellery exhibitions, and sea-themed art displays and movies, will be organised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. The highlight of the festival will be a parade of dhows and boats with decorative lights creating a colourful flotilla. Don’t miss the augmented reality adventure inside a real dhow docked near the bay and Bahrain’s first Jetski Offshore and Endurance Racing event! A jet pack show is set to entertain too.
How to get there? Tickets available at Virgin Megastores in City Centre Bahrain and at the entrance during
the festival, which will run from 13th to 22nd October, 5pm to 11pm.
THE PEARLING TRAIL The 3.5-kilometre Pearling Trail is Bahrain’s second official UNESCO World Heritage Site after Qal’at Al Bahrain (read Bahrain fort) and consists of 17 buildings around the city of Muharraq, as well as three offshore oyster beds, part of the seashore and the Bu Maher fort. The buildings include the homes of wealthy merchants, shops, storehouses and a mosque. Though pearl trade in the Kingdom is not as important around these parts any more, the Pearling Trail is a
events must-visit on the island because it tells you all about the trade which drove Bahrain’s economy until the discovery of oil.
How to get there? Just hop on one of the boats leaving the Bahrain National Museum harbour, 9.30am to 4.30pm.
SCUBA DIVING ADVENTURES If you’re an adrenaline junkie and prefer a more hands-on adventure, Bahrain is home to a couple of diving centers. A heads-up – the island’s sea life has been considerably affected, if not damaged, by dredging for land reclamation projects. Still believe the proof of the pudding is in the eating? Go

ahead and take the plunge! If you’re lucky, you might find the odd sea creature that makes your day.

PEARLING HISTORY
Did you know that in 1905, there were about 17,500 divers in an estimated total population of 99,000? Most divers lived on Muharraq island with 5,582 in Muharraq town, 3,146 in Hidd, and 1,172 in Halat Naim and Halat Sulutah (villages around Muharraq); but many also lived on Manama Island, especially in Budaiya where there were 1,482.
DECLINE OF THE TRADE
Dhow making demo at Bahrain Sea Festival
A pearl of the early Dilmun period from Sa'ar (2300BC) on display at the Bahrain National Museum
“The pearling journey typically took three to four months, usually starting in June and ending in October.” Isa Bin Ali House is a part of the Pearling Trail
In 1929, the pearling industry was prospering with 538 boats and over 20,000 divers. Terminal decline began in the 1930s with the world depression, Japanese cultured pearls, and alternative sources of employment in the oil industry. By 1954 there were only 11 boats and 538 divers. The 1960s saw the decline of pearling.
A DIVER’S JOURNEY
The pearling journey typically took three to four months, usually starting in June and ending in October every year. Pearling bed depths were between 7 to 20 ba’a – more than a meter. Divers would not spend more than one to two minutes under water. The big pearling ships carried 60 to 80 sailors and the job titles, loosely translated from Arabic, in the trade included: Captain, his Assistant, Singer, Divers, Puller/Diver’s Assistant, Trainee, and Cook. At the end of the season, shares would be distributed according to the jobs – for instance, the divers and singers took away two shares each as opposed to the pullers who took away just one.
FIRTHI – A DILMUN TRADITION
Firthi is a type of boat that was used by fisherman during the Dilmun era. It’s interesting to note that boats made in this style are used by fisherman in present day Bahrain as well. An excavated stamp seal belonging to ancient Bahrain and recorded by the Bahrain National Museum shows the firthi, which is made of palm ribs lashed together.

art ON HER ARTWORK… Though the beauty of the natural world in its different manifestations inspires most of my artwork, I also draw inspiration from my travels around the globe where I observe beauty, forms, colours and harmony between difference places and cultures. Few of my paintings are also inspired by my love for the Kingdom.
ON HER JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST… As far as I can remember, I’ve been drawing and painting all my life but with varying intensities. I never thought about art seriously – I have a Masters degree in computer engineering – but most of my hobbies are related to art. It was when I had more time to explore them that I started painting seriously and developed my own style – I like realism and prefer oil painting.

I’ve participated in quite a few exhibitions the latest two being "Multiple Images" at Malja Art Space over in Amwaj this April, and the annual art exhibition of Bahrain Contemporary Art Association in Juffair during the summer. These were successful exhibitions with Bahrain-based artists.

Manama is capital of art. There are many nice and famous galleries and art spaces there. I also like Hend Gallery in Muharraq and Malja Art Space in Amwaj, which organise a lot of activities and promote young artists.
ON HER FAVOURITE ARTISTS… I like the work of many famous and less famous artists from different countries but seascapes by I. Aivazovsky and landscapes by I. Shishkin are closer to my soul.

F
ive students of Bahrain Polytechnic – Eman Abbas, Khadija Hasan, Ahmed Al Sharif, Miral Rizq, and Eman Shaker – have a message to share. The new graduates have launched a public service announcement to encourage Bahrainis to talk more freely about breast cancer. The concept of the video (shot in Arabic), a brainchild of Eman Abbas, highlights the main reasons why locals avoid discussing the disease: fear, shyness, a don’t care-attitude, and most importantly the notion that talking about it would bring bad luck. The students chose a video format because they believe it has a higher impact than most other media. The youngsters know people who have battled breast cancer and through this video they hope to spread the message that one mustn’t feel shy or afraid. Rather get tested on time and fight the disease. We give this initiative a thumbs-up! Safe to say, Bahrain’s future is in good hands.

The new Santoni collection outlines a powerful ellipsis that binds tradition and innovation in an idea of style that is classic, rough, futuristic and modernist at the same time. Shapes are classic: archetypes of men’s repertoire, from lace-up Oxford shoes to double-buckle ankle boots and the sneakers. The iconic Santoni double buckle is interpreted in a no-buckle version, even on the sneakers. The collection is inspired by minimalism which can be seen in the bags too: matte python backpacks and professional briefcases of bare design. Colours range from burned brown and burgundy to tones of blue and grey. Materials are solid and precious: brushed calfskin, crocodile, Santoni patina, ostrich, matte python.

For Fall Winter 2016, Jonathan Anderson explored how to articulate familiar silhouettes against an abstract, ostensibly natural world. The result is an exaggerated normality, manifest in garments and accessories that have been blown up to become bigger versions of themselves. Oversized, hyper-relaxed silhouettes in earthly primeval colours permeate the collection, as does a calm, cosy feel most evident in slouchy sleepwear-inspired hats. Standout pieces include longknitted, colour-block cardigans inspired by an early 19th century Indonesian scarf motif and pterodactyl print silk shirts.

Aiste A Daubaras hopes for a more internationally promoted Bahrain.
E
ach time my endless travels throw me back to good old Europe, I find myself struggling to explain, where do we actually live. The mention of our beautiful sunny island, more often then not, draws completely blank faces... or worse still, evokes quite a horrified expression, as one inevitably imagines me covered head to toe in yards and yards of black material, unable to drive or even walk in the street alone. And please, do not assume that the people I encounter there are all ill educated or of a barely passable blond IQ. Quite au contraire. It is just that there is not enough travel information about Bahrain... available outside Bahrain. The truth is, that whenever one picks up a travel magazine, they all are brimful of lures to sample cured shark-meat whilst dangling your feet from the edge of an Icelandic glacier, or immerse oneself into deep meditation alongside the Tibetan monk; or even to admire the reserved Nordic beauty of my tiny obscure homeland Lithuania.... But alas, not only once, in the last few years, I came across any mention of Bahrain. And unfortunately I am not all
together surprised. When, after moving here, my husband and I, discovered all that this island has to offer its visitors, we turned into walking-talking advertisement billboards for Bahrain, inviting all our friends to come and visit, so we could proudly greet them “Marhaba bikum fi Al Bahrain!". Just imagine how pleased I was to have been asked by a beautiful international publisher of an affluent New Style magazine to write a destination article about Bahrain for their travel section. However as anyone knows, that advertising is bread, if not butter, of the magazine publishing business. So securely equipped with the top contacts, kindly supplied by our well-connected Bahraini friends, I excitedly presented the idea of my article (which would enable us to spread the word about this beautiful hospitable island to a very wide audience) to the three biggest five star hotels in Bahrain. And although it would be unfair to say that it generated quite a lukewarm response (except in one case), it turned out, that their entire advertising budget is already allocated for years in advance and mostly tied to
the regional publications. In other words, enlightening readers outside Bahrain... about Bahrain is not their top priority. So my poor 'unsupported' destination article is still gathering dust in the desk drawer, and people are still occasionally asking me “Bahrain WHAT?", when I tell them where I live... (However, ever the optimist, I am inclined to believe, that with my humble efforts to persevere, the things will improve... eventually...)

FIVE LIVES ONE DAY IN BAHRAIN
Set in the year 2007, Rohini Sunderam’s latest title traces the lives of 5 very different people: a Sri Lankan housemaid, an Indian municipal garbage truck driver, a Filipina hairdresser and beauty salon manager, a British banker, and a young Bahraini man. As the plot unfolds, we learn of the characters’ lives, which eventually intertwine. A true representation of Bahrain’s cosmopolitan society, this is an uplifting story that celebrates ordinary people in extraordinary ways. The Canadian author living in Bahrain hopes to get the e-book published as a print edition soon. ON HOW THE BOOK CAME ABOUT…
I wrote this story to participate in Robin Barratt’s novella contest for the Bahrain Writers’ Circle (BWC). The challenge was to create a 30,000 word fictional piece set in Bahrain. I started in November and sat down every night at around 10pm and just wrote till 1 or 2 in the morning. By the middle of December or so I had written the story. Unfortunately, we had to call off the contest, as we hadn’t received enough financial support for it. I think several of our BWC members have written books that were born as a result of the contest.
ON THE CHARACTERS IN THE STORY…
Three of them are inspired by people I know: the Sri Lankan housemaid, Ameeta, is loosely based on my own housemaid’s life. I interviewed her over the course of a few days, in order to be as close to reality as possible. Rosita, the Filipina beautician, is an amalgam of my beauty salon’s girls. I interviewed all of them. However, I admit to somewhat adlibbing in certain areas where the character is concerned. I also asked them for words in Tagalog so that I could use those as naturally as possible. The good looking baladiya driver 50 Bahrain Confidential October 2016
from Kerala, Francis Kutty, is based on a chap who used to work for me a long time ago, but was neither from Kerala nor good looking. The British banker and the Bahraini lad I created from observation and conversations.
ON THE HIGHLIGHT OF ‘FIVE LIVES ONE DAY IN BAHRAIN’…
The end. It is so uplifting and pure, when people have divested themselves, albeit briefly, of their backgrounds and status, their languages and gender and are able to meet each other as human beings. I believe that most people are essentially good and certain circumstances will let that spark of pure unselfish love blossom, even if it is only for an instant.
ON HOW BAHRAIN HAS INSPIRED HER WRITING…
Bahrain is a treasure trove of possibilities. It has a fascinating history, a wonderful palette of people of diverse backgrounds, little-known nooks and crannies – in terms of places, people’s minds and lives, all waiting to be discovered. There are the pearl divers, their songs – I have written several poems on this subject,
the discovery of oil and how it impacted people’s lives. I’m sure if we went to A’ali and talked to the potters, we’d have a whole slew of stories. I guess I could go on. A storyteller finds stories everywhere.

GOOD READS
New book releases by Bahrain-based authors Glen R Stansfield and Seumas Gallacher. to Britain. Until now. The death of a former soldier releases the forces Harry suppressed all those years ago and he embarks on a crusade to free the streets of London from petty criminals. They trained him to kill; now they can't stop him. Having a graduate degree in Psychology and postgraduate studies in Forensic Psychology, Glen’s interest in crime comes from the psychological perspective. “I attempt to get inside the mind of a serial killer, but only the reader can decide if I have achieved that,” he says. Glen wrote another crime novel, Fishing for Stones, which released last year. “Three of the characters from Fishing for Stones make an appearance in Harry, but the latter is by no means a sequel to the former.” The action in Harry takes place in the present day whereas Fishing for Stones is set in 1990.
Fishing for Stones and Harry are available as paperbacks at Jashanmal for BD5, and with other online booksellers, as well as on Kindle. eBook prices vary. Title: Harry Genre: Crime Author Profile: Glen R Stansfield is an author, biker and self-described ‘nutcase’. Having a fast track stream at school and gaining eight GCEs at the age of fifteen, he decided to drop out after the first year of A levels as it was ‘too much pressure’. Glen then pursued a radio engineering apprenticeship and went on to work as an avionics engineer and police officer while studying for his degree. He believes these former roles have influenced his perspectives as a writer. You can stalk him on @GlenRStansfield or visit www.glen-r-stansfield.com Plot: For twenty-five years Harry has hidden a dark secret. He likes to kill. Title: Deadly Impasse Genre: Crime Author Profile: Seumas Gallacher is a former businessman whose social network tops 30,000 direct contacts. The self-professed 'oldest computer Jurassic on the planet’ was voted ‘Blogger of the Year 2013’ by skelat.com less than two years after he launched his humorous, informative blog. You can stalk this lover of extra fried Mars bars, on @seumasgallacher or visit seumasgallacher.com Plot: The team at specialist security firm, International Security Partners (ISP), ex-SAS officers, Jack Calder and his mate Malky McGuire; Jack's Asian wife, former Anti-Triad fighter, May-Ling; and former London Serious
Crimes Squad commander, Donnie Mullen, take on international drug barons and people-traffickers. The action ranges from the placid backwater of a private bank in Luxembourg to the shores of Libya and the perils of migrants in the Mediterranean, across continents to combat drug-running cartels in Central America. The murky underbelly of corruption and greed breeds callous and brutal criminal bosses, the only answer to whom is to match their ruthlessness with lethal black ops skills to break the deadly impasse. “Jack Calder, the main character, is inspired by the Special Air Service (SAS) officer who trained the bodyguards assigned to me all those years ago,” says Seumas who once during his career as a businessman took a few tough decisions that almost endangered his life. His first four crime-thrillers, in what has become the 'Jack Calder' series, The Violin Man's Legacy, Vengeance Wears Black, Savage Payback and Killer City have blown his mind with more than 90,000 e-link downloads to date. Deadly Impasse is the fifth in the series.
All 5 titles in the series are available on Amazon Kindle eBooks, priced at US$ 3.99 (BD1.50) each. The Violin Man's Legacy and Vengeance Wears Black is available at Jashanmal as well, priced at BD5 each.

40 Years of Loyal Service
Ramada Bahrain honours long-term employee Mr Kochulonappan Rapheal, waiter turned F&B Manager, who shares his experience working with the brand. WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR JOURNEY WITH RAMADA BAHRAIN? I joined Ramada Bahrain as waiter with very limited knowledge in hospitality. It was quite demanding in the beginning, as Ramada is an International brand. Working with different nationalities and high profile guests was very challenging but as time passed by and under the guidance of my superiors and subordinates I have learned and gained good experience till date, as I complete 40 years of service.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT RAMADA BAHRAIN AND WHAT HAS IT TAUGHT YOU? Serving our guests and serving them with pleasure has been both, my motto and my role. I have always been dedicated to my job and profession. Your job has to be the priority in your life. Further, I have trained many young professionals and many of them have forged successful careers in this field; it is important to pass on your knowledge to the next generation.
WHAT DO YOU MOST LOVE ABOUT THE BRAND AND PROPERTY? It’s an International chain of hotels, one of the largest in the hospitality sector. We as Ramada Bahrain are well-known in the Kingdom and region. Ramada Bahrain has an ideal location and caters mainly to corporate business.
ANY MENTORS YOU’VE LOOKED UP TO DURING YOUR STINT AT RAMADA BAHRAIN? WHAT ADVICE HAVE THEY GIVEN YOU THAT YOU STILL LIVE BY? When I was promoted to headwaiter in the year 1992, we had an F&B Director,

Bahrain Development Bank Facilitating the Kingdom’s growth and development across sectors since 1992.
B
ahrain Development Bank (BDB) commenced its operations in 1992 with the plan on adopting effective integrated programmes to facilitate the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises with a focus on expansion and development of existing enterprises. The plan also enabled BDB to play a major developmental role through diversification of its investment activities with a focus on new sectors with added value such as refining industry, food industry, tourism, and health projects. At the core of this plan was also the aim to support troubled projects and put them back on the path to profitability. Since small and medium enterprises form an integral part of the business activity and impact entrepreneurial development in the Kingdom, these mechanisms were designed and implemented in accordance with the BDB’s expertise in this area and were in line with the existing economic, financial and technological conditions on local and global levels. With an aim to develop Bahraini youth and strengthen their capacity to take up entrepreneurship
alongside the establishing of small enterprises, the bank developed a number of programmes like the “Rowad” programme which is a comprehensive programme designed to support entrepreneurs develop their ideas and start their own businesses. Supporting entrepreneurship will remain a key element in the bank’s development plans as it will continue to provide a variety of programmes and activities that contribute in attracting existing entrepreneurs as well as encouraging students of secondary schools and universities to consider entrepreneurship as a viable option.

“Fry food with up to 80 per cent less fat!”
EAT MORE & STAY FIT! The Philips Viva Airfryer TurboStar allows you to enjoy all your favourite dishes with a healthy touch.
B
ahrain Confidential was invited to try out Philips’ newly unveiled next generation Viva Airfryer TurboStar. After a week of using it in the office pantry, we must say this is one super machine every kitchen must have. With its new TurboStar technology, the Viva Airfryer TurboStar helps you whip up delicious, evenly cooked food with up to 80 percent less fat in no time. Yes, only 80 percent because though the appliance works on Rapid Air technology, a few teaspoons of oil are needed to cook. But when you compare this to deep-frying, which requires huge quantities of oil, you know you have a better deal with an airfryer. Further, the technology ensures heat distribution is 76 Bahrain Confidential October 2016
uniform, which saves you the trouble of turning. The taste though wasn’t exactly the same as deep-fried, but you get some, you lose some. And few of us who have taken the health route didn’t mind the compromise. Besides you get to eat a couple of extra nuggets guilt free (wink!).
The Viva Airfryer TurboStar is also compact – 20 percent smaller than the previous model – and sat well on our pantry counter. Moreover, it allows you to fry up to four servings (800g of food). If you have a big family, like we do in office, this is a great advantage.
Most of us use deep fryers at home, which are a pain to clean, and so using the Viva Airfryer TurboStar was a welcome break. With the QuickClean basket, which includes a removable
All in all, we recommend the Philips Airfryer to slightly bigger families who are health conscious and prefer eating fried foods regularly. Don’t forget to download the Philips Airfryer app with over 200 recipes and step-by-step cooking instructions and information on nutritive elements. We can’t wait to try them all!
The taste though wasn’t exactly the same as deep-fried, but you get some, you lose some. non-stick mesh, cleaning was a breeze (at least that’s what the office boy ecstatically told us). The removable non-stick coated drawer and the food basket are also dishwasher safe for added cleaning convenience.
Available at all leading hypermarkets and electronics retailers

Guests whipping up some Thai papaya salad during the cooking demo
BEST Hotels ...NOT TO BE MISSED!
ANYONE CAN COOK! ART Rotana Amwaj invites you to its newly launched cooking demo at the exquisite WU Asian Restaurant & Lounge. For those of you who don’t know, ‘WU’ is the Chinese character which stands for ‘five’ symbolising the five cuisines served at the restaurant – Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Malaysian and Korean. Bahrain Confidential was invited among other guests for a hands-on adventure with
Chef Mac Withojit where we whipped up flavourful Thai dishes including a fresh raw papaya salad and creamy Thai green curry. Now this is not an intense cooking class so it’s perfect for amateurs who want to have fun with food! The session is packed with Chef Mac’s kitchen tips and culinary secrets, and you also get to cook few of the dishes planned for the session with your own set of ingredients. This is
followed by a delicious lunch featuring more of Chef Mac’s amazing creations and complimentary drinks. The demo priced at BD19 net will be hosted on the first Wednesday of the month, 11am to 2pm (5th October this month) – perfect timing for you to have fun with the ladies just before you pick the kids from school.

PESTE
Belly of Paris entered Bahrain’s music scene early last year. Since then, the ‘baroque n’ roll’ band has done numerous gigs on the island and in the region. Just recently, they finished recording their debut album, Peste, which is due to release in November. Melissa Nazareth talks to frontman, Daniel Cochran, about Peste and music on the island.
I
s it me or is there a new post about war and destruction every time I log on to Facebook? I mean, look at the world around us. It seems like there is this plague of hatred and fear spreading across the globe, dividing people. After a point it gets so depressing that the easiest way to soothe oneself is to assure oneself that

‘everything happens for a reason’. Daniel Cochran tells me that this fatalistic attitude is essentially the spirit of Peste. “It’s easier to sing the song when you’ve written the lyrics,” says Daniel, lead vocalist and lyricist, adding that he usually pens down the words and shows it to his band members who then share their feedback.

We further discuss the mood of the album and Daniel says, “It’s hard to tell because a few songs are orchestral, then there are tribal ones and then again there are electric based tracks.” Safe to say there is no unifying musical theme, which I find out, is deliberate – the six-piece band has musicians coming from five different
interview countries. “We have people from varied cultures and backgrounds so they bring their own touch to the music we make – we have Indian post-punk drummer Sumit Sharma, Palestinian-AmericanBahraini keyboard player Yasmin Sharabi, Argentinian bassist Carlos Villarroel, Hungarian trumpeter and bassoonist Szabolcs Nigo, and Rob Prest, the guitarist,
even if you’re paid but it’s not as bad as if you were not. I wouldn’t have gotten started if people hadn’t paid me.” Daniel reminisces his days back in the UK where there was a new band playing every week. He recalls a few of them being really good and the others not as much but there was a variety for music lovers to

fun and are a ‘happy band’. In fact the funniest argument they’ve had is whether or not trumpeter and bassoonist Szabolcs Nigo who has a peculiar Hungarian sense of humour should do a stand-up comedy show in Hungarian – a language no one in the world speaks except for those from Hungary. As we reach the end of our coffee, I ask Daniel if there is a message he’d like to share with Bahrain. “Take a chance on bands,” he says, “and if you see a band playing something original, support them.”
Peste launches on 7th November and will be available on LP, CD and digital download worldwide. Visit www.muselandrecords.com for music and tour dates.
MUSIC IN BAHRAIN Belly of Paris looked around for many recording studios when they started off but found them either too expensive or not good at all. “We eventually zeroed in on Autonomous Studios in Gudaibiya,” says Daniel. Lack of affordable, decent studios is not the only problem local musicians face. Bahrain also needs more venues and promoters to look out for home grown bands. That said, there are a few nice people who are working toward building the island’s music scene. “When I came to Bahrain three years ago, I didn’t think there would be much in terms of opportunity. I even did a few shows on my own before the band came about. Gradually, we realised that there is an underground scene in the Kingdom. We got to know a few promoters and started recording and playing gigs around the region – Dubai, Qatar, Lebanon.” “It’s important for venues to organically build an audience that enjoys listening to home grown bands or for promoters to hire a venue and set the stage to attract such a crowd,” says Daniel. He commends Boho Baha for organising such events and MuseLand records – which the band teamed up with for Peste – for backing artists in Bahrain. Polo Gastro Pub over in Adliya also puts bands on every week and Daniel tells me Belly of Paris has done gigs there. “Polo Gastro Pub pays the performing bands which is great, especially for the budding bands. You lose money
FUTURE PLANS Belly of Paris will do its promotional tour in November and Daniel is optimistic about it. “Our crowd has always supported us by showing up for our shows and buying our CDs,” he says. “Though there is no culture of gig going around here, people are getting used to it now and paying to see original music.” Though all the band members have full time jobs, they try to meet up at least once a week in Diraz where they practice. Daniel tells me that they have a lot of

PAW IT FORWARD Tony Waters is a well-known name among animal lovers in Bahrain. Fondly known as 'The Dogfather, Tony runs The Dogfather Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre in Saar, home to more than 450 rescued dogs, cats, birds, and even a donkey. Though many of us extend support with food and finance, very sadly it is not enough and Tony is struggling to stay open. The centre is regularly facing closure crises, with it becoming increasingly difficult to give each animal in the Centre the required amount of attention to ensure it's well-being. A recent article in the Gulf Daily News even mentioned that the workers who help Tony at the Centre intended to go on strike as they weren't paid their salaries for more than a month and a half due to lack of funds. If this happens, it will be impossible to feed, water, and care for the animals for even one day.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? An initiative like Tony's Centre is a community project and here's your chance to paw it forward! Contributions to help cover rent, salaries, electricity, dog and cat food, vet bills and medical supplies are much needed and appreciated.
To donate, visit http://www.tonythedogfather.com/ donate/ You can also shop at the Centre's second hand shop where all proceeds go towards the support of the Centre. You can find the location of the shop here https://www.facebook.com/ SecondChanceCharity/
