The Upper Class Last month, Bahrain Confidential took Gulf Air’s Falcon Gold Business Class service to London Heathrow on one of their brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
T
he benefit of flying Falcon Gold, Gulf Air’s vastly improved Business Class that was introduced in April 2018, is apparent from check-in when you avoid the queues of Economy passengers and go straight to a separate and far less busy Falcon Gold check-in counter. Flying Falcon Gold gives you access to the Falcon Gold lounge at Bahrain Airport, no better way to unwind and relax before catching your flight – the coffee is great too! Try and spot it - there’s a fascinating old picture on the wall of the legendary boxing champion, Mohammed Ali, stepping out of a Gulf Air plane (back in the day) that always catches my attention.
Here you can check in considerably more luggage – 2 bags of up to 32 kg each as opposed to one back up to 23 kg in standard Economy.
Gulf Air flies the brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner on this route, which is perhaps the finest wide-bodied passenger aircraft in service today.
Each seat comes with headphones, a blanket and pillow, a water bottle, and the option of pajamas. Passengers also receive a personal amenity kit that includes eye mask, ear plugs, toiletries and socks.
28 Bahrain Confidential July 2019
Gulf Air flies the brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner on this route, which is perhaps the finest wide-bodied passenger aircraft in service today. It also has the most luxurious Business Class seating and cabins. On boarding the aircraft, the seats in the Falcon Gold section at the front of the aircraft are comfortable and provide maximum privacy under the circumstances thanks to cleverly designed angles and partitions that separate you from the person seated next to you.
Before take-off, flight attendants hand out menus, a choice of hot or cold towels, dates, and Arabic coffee. Gulf Air is famous for introducing the Sky Chef. These are qualified chefs who prepare you food in-flight. Our Sky Chef introduced himself before takeoff to discuss our dining and drinks requirements.
Feature
Gulf Air’s Falcon Gold Lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport The standard of food served on board is certainly as good as you will find on any other Business Class service from any other airline. I ordered beef and it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. And the way it was served, on white linen tablecloths with steel cutlery, was perfect. There’s lots of movies to choose and enjoy, from the latest Hollywood blockbusters to classics, Bollywood, kids, and films to appeal to various nationalities and ethnicities. There’s also various TV shows, documentaries, and concerts to choose from. Falcon Gold offer ‘flatbed’ seats, which mean they extend all the way down till they are flat. When you want to sleep, a flight attendant will put down a mattress and fitted sheet onto your flat bed for greater comfort. You can press a button that informs the air crew not to disturb you, or set it to be woken when they serve breakfast or a meal. The return London - Bahrain flight is also non-stop. There’s a choice of 2 flights per day; departing at 10 am and arriving in Bahrain at 6.40 pm (flying time 6 hours, 40 minutes), and departing at 10.05 pm, arriving Bahrain at 6.25 am (flying time 6 hours, 20 minutes). Gulf Air also has its own lounge at Heathrow Airport conveniently located at Terminal 4 between Gates 6 and 7, right next to the Gate for Gulf Air flights. It’s a little bit of Bahrain in London. Friendly and professional staff serve complimentary food and drinks and will notify you when it’s time to board your flight. There’s luggage lockers and shower rooms available, WiFi, and a choice of newspapers and magazines including the excellent Bahrain based magazine Bahrain Confidential J Falcon Gold seat configuration on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Gulf Air on its BahrainLondon-Bahrain routes
I was able to sleep well and wake refreshed before landing in Bahrain. I must say that the cabin staff throughout the flight were extremely attentive and professional. Overall, I rate the service First Class! n For more info on Gulf Air’s Falcon Gold service visit GulfAir.com

A Grand Summer Bahrain Confidential experiences a spectacular summer staycation at the Wyndham Grand Manama.
B
ahrain heats up in the summer and we found out that the best way to cool down is at the Wyndham Grand Manama! Just recently, we had the chance to experience a sumptuous stay at this stunning hotel.
Located at the heart of Bahrain Bay, Wyndham Grand Manama is home to stunning views, breathtaking design and excellent facilities. The hotel proved to be a treat in every way, not only because of its immaculate grandeur but also because of its topnotch service. The check-in process was very smooth – in a swift, we were already guided to our suite. We stayed at the 1-Bedroom Suite which boasts a tasteful design on top of a spacious area. All of the suites were thoughtfully designed and offer a working desk, as well as separate lounge with sofa and chairs. It even comes with a kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge and espresso machine!
30 Bahrain Confidential July 2019
Going Out times of day. The international cuisine and Arabic favorites definitely had each of our discerning tastes satisfied. Aside from Atmosphere, guests can also indulge at The Pool Lounge and Durrah Lobby Lounge for fresh snacks and light bites. Fitness and Recreation Wyndham Grand Manama’s 11th floor is the hub of the summer scene with poolside fun, light snacks and play area. The hotel has two outdoor pools (one infinity adults only pool and one family pool with kids’ play area). Believe us when we tell you that each of the hotel’s corners is Instagram-worthy! As much as we wanted to “live in the moment”, we couldn’t stop taking snaps of the infinity pool and the view from above. What we loved the most about our suite was the floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent views of the Bahrain Bay – we couldn’t stop admiring how picturesque everything was! Our bathroom also features a stunning backdrop which made the sophisticated space even more indulgent. The setup surely looked like it was a scene from the movie screen. Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we were reminded of a spa treatment at the hotel’s Spa Suite. The Six Senses Spa is opening by Q4! The Spa Wyndham Grand Manama offers a stateof-the-art spa suite also known as Spa by Wyndham Grand. The spa features a variety of holistic therapies, wellness activities and experiences. During the day, we were pampered with a Body Scrub and their Esse Probiotic Facial. As usual, the Spa Manager Eden, expertly guided us throughout the whole process. The aromatic body scrub is said to stimulate blood circulation while exfoliating and revitalizing the body. This rich mud scrub featured the earthy notes of coffee which made the session really enjoyable. After the body scrub, we experienced the Esse Probiotic Facial. This consisted of active probiotic and botanical extracts that left our skin radiant, youthful and well nourished. Our therapist, Aileen, was very thorough and made sure that each step was done perfectly.
Aside from the pools, the architectural genius features a fitness center that helps guests keep up with their fitness goals. For the traveler who’d like to stay fit, the hotel offers excellent health and fitness clubs for men and women, with a wide range of gym facilities at the 10th floor. Taxi Boat You don’t have to be a globetrotter to explore as the hotel offers a myriad of experiences, some of which can’t be enjoyed anywhere else in Bahrain. During our stay, we had the chance to try the famous taxi boat ride to The Avenues Mall. Guests are offered a free VIP shuttle to the taxi boat docking area to go to The Avenues. Going to the mall has never been that fun and easy.
The Six Senses Spa is yet to open soon so keep your eyes on the lookout!
Nothing beats a good staycation and we’ve had the best at Wyndham Grand Manama. Overall, our stay has nothing been short of amazing. We loved the juxtaposition of a relaxing oasis and the hustle bustle of city life just within reach. There’s no way to celebrate summer than the ‘grand’ way! n
The Food For foodies like us, you will not go wrong with Wyndham Grand Manama’s in-house dining options. We had our meals at Atmosphere Restaurant which provides excellent food at all

It’s been a wakeup call and we are now investing our time and focus into deep diving into this issue. Careem has been organizing a Women’s Captain Committee to tackle their issues and better understand what barriers might exist for a woman wanting to come and drive for us, and to understand what it takes for us to provide a conducive environment for them to flourish.
Currently, around 70% of Careem’s passengers across the region are females, and Careem has been particularly beneficial for females who did not have safe and reliable transport before the introduction of the service in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and many more. Our icon has once again evolved and is now more powerful, more emotional, and more efficient than its predecessors. It is the best 911 Porsche has ever produced and this eighth generation maintains the 911’s status as a pure driver's car that also offers everyday usability and unique design. As such, I am delighted to announce that the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera 4S are now available here in Bahrain.”

In participation with Trilife, it offers a new service for athletes, triathletes and cyclists – to take the opportunity to be physically assessed for sporting performance. This means identifying individual weaknesses, imbalances and strengths and to resolve any physical issues that would affect performance or contribute to potential injury. Deliberate Choices Do you find that life seems to be running on autopilot? A lot of us are raised to function that way. Our Parents or guardians provided structure to our life, with good intention, to teach us morals and suitable habits in order to sail seamlessly through life. ‘Just do as you are told’, or ‘because I said so’ was what we were told. Choices or freedom may have been limited. More importantly, however, is the present. Do you still continue to do what you think others expect you should do? When we are taught to make decisions, we learn to take responsibility for the outcome of our deliberate choices, thus learning self-reliance, leaving no room for playing the blame game with anyone else for how our life turns out. Making deliberate choices is like exercising a mental muscle, engaging in a quest to discover what choices leave you feeling empowered and in control; versus debilitating ones that leave you feeling disempowered. The more DELIBERATE the choice the more powerful you feel. Choices that enhance the quality of your life and leave you with a feeling of ecstatic exuberance. Start small, like choosing what will nourish your body, to eat and drink, or what to watch or listen to, how to spend your time, and with whom, and build trust in your capacities to make life a joyful journey. A quick way to learn how to make choices that contribute to your ideal vision of life, is to tune into your body. Our bodies have a very intelligent way of communicating with us. Next time you make a choice, check in with your body, and notice, whether it feels Light or Heavy (one simple tool from Access Consciousness) - if it feels LIGHT (expansive at the heart center) the outcome will be positive, HEAVY (constricted at the heart center) the outcome will be the opposite. Give it a try and share your experience with me on Instagram at insightstherapybh. Banish the feeling of helplessness and take charge or your life, Now! n

HV Holistic Health -
Activate Your Children
Change their habits, and improve their health, with the HV Holistic guide to ‘Health for kids’. Stop rewarding good behaviour with junk food/ sweets. Educate children about their daily limit of sugar. Limit junk food to once a month, and NEVER use it as a reward. We see many adults who say, “I worked hard today so I deserve fast food”. This mindset starts from a young age, and it’s your job to educate your children that healthy eating isn’t a punishment.
It’s your job to educate your children that healthy eating isn’t a punishment. Use the school holidays as a chance to find new hobbies or clubs. There are plethora of summer camps being advertised at the moment, ranging from arts & crafts, to sports. Anything that stimulates their mind, encourages group engagement or broadens their skillset, will do. At HV, we’ve got a Fun Fitness Class starting from 7th July, too.
Diversify their interests. You might not think your child will ever be the next Andy Murray but, teaching them hand-to-eye coordination in sports such as tennis, will ensure that they can adapt to physical situations in the future. We see a large number of adults who have little balance and coordination, and this can hamper normal day-today activities, and increase the chance of injury. Enroll you and your kids on a healthy cooking course. If you don’t know what constitutes a healthy breakfast, (which we get asked a LOT!), how will your kids? Learn together what should be eaten for a balanced breakfast, lunch & dinner, and broaden their tastes to foods that will benefit their mental, and physical, health. n For more info on the HV Fun Fitness Course, starting on 7th July, contact 39772100 or 17775544. The course costs only BD60 for 6 weeks, and ages groups are 4-7 & 8-12. Charlotte Anderson is the Head Health & Wellness Practitioner at HV Holistic Health. @hvholistic www. hvholistichealth.com
Teach your kids how to have fun outdoors. There might not be mountains to climb but, Bahrain lends itself to water sports beautifully. Try joining a triathlon club, paddle boarding, swimming classes or even water polo.

In Parallel Bahrain Confidential explores the mind of renowned Bahraini artist, Rashid Al Khalifa.
B
ahrain is home to a flourishing art scene – just recently, we had the chance to share a conversation with distinguished artist, Rashid Al Khalifa about his recent exhibition “In Parallel”.
Your work has been exhibited not only regionally but also internationally. How have your cultural roots influenced your artistic output? I have long been drawn to the natural landscape of Bahrain – the desert, wadis and the manner in which the sunlight diffuses over the landscape is very unique to Bahrain. I also feel very connected to my heritage and am reminded of it when I explore various forms and features of architecture as well as customs that are typically Bahraini. I suppose these are the things that have greatly influenced my artistic output; for example, I continue to explore the ways in which I can best represent Bahrain’s light, or the feeling it evokes, which many would agree is unique to this region. Although I may have changed my manner of expression over the years, from representational landscapes to minimalistic large scale installations, the subject remains the same.
42 Bahrain Confidential July 2019
Art
What themes are you exploring and what does your art express? In this particular exhibition, ‘In Parallel’, this selection of work touches on themes such as: light on the natural landscape, the symbolic feminine form, symmetry and space, as well as geometry in traditional forms of architecture. What is unique about this exhibition is that we have decided to relate works from different periods that evoke the same philosophy or meaning, next to one another. At first glance, they appear almost strikingly in contrast to one another and yet, if you take the time to contemplate the imagery, you are able to feel the similarity of meaning and sentiment that each evokes.
Where do you draw your inspiration from? From the landscape of my home country, design- both traditional and contemporary, from minimalism, symmetry and seeing the beauty in something once it is stripped of the details.
What motivates you to make art? Do you have any influences? It is my solace – my place to ‘be’.
Which part of Bahrain is your favorite and why?
What is unique about this exhibition is that we have decided to relate works from different periods that evoke the same philosophy or meaning, next to one another.
I have no favorite place in particular. I love old Muharraq and Manama. Zallaq has character as does Jasra. Of course, I love the empty desert after the rain.

About the exhibition: Curated by Yasmin Sharabi, In Parallel considers a selection of works spanning four decades. However, instead of retelling his story through a traditional timeline and in a typical retrospective format, Sharabi builds this exhibition off stylistic affinities, whereby works that represent specific key themes are cross – compared to those from different eras that are inherent of a similar essence. n

Bahrain Military Museum Dhanyasree M shares her visit to the history remnants of Bahrain's Military Museum.
T
he Kingdom’s Defence force has played an integral role in the island and the Military Museum aptly displays the great power of Bahrain Military over the centuries. Located near the historic Riffa Fort, Bahrain Military Museum details the events that constituted the Arabian Peninsula. The two-storey building flaunts an Arabic architecture that houses various paintings, documents, and weapons used by military units since the inception of Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) 45 years ago. It was inaugurated on February 5th, 2013 – the 45th Anniversary of BDF’s establishment. The army vehicles were parked at both sides of the entrance and on display as I visited the Museum. They would be covered during the windy days to avoid corrosion. The cool and wide reception hall was arrayed with large paintings depicting the scenes of Bahrain battles over the centuries. The centre attraction was the Land Rover used by late HRH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa for military parades. Different halls are exclusively dedicated for diverse aspects of the history in Bahrain. The first hall that I entered was the Hall of Rulers with the
46 Bahrain Confidential July 2019
portraits of all rulers in Bahrain from late Hakim Ahmed ibn Muhammad ibn Khalifa until His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The Hall of Documents highlights the original legal documents that decided the destiny of the island. It lead to the Hall of Horses which features information on different breeds that were celebrated over centuries by the Arab warriors. It was interesting to note that the background music of each hall changes to fit each theme.
Feature
The Hall of Weaponries featured rifles used before 15th century; Muqammahs used during the battles from 1820s to 1870s; and German rifles used afterwards. The Hall of Forts, and the Hall of Costumes lead to the stairways of the first floor. As I passed by each one of them, I wondered whether the weapons and costumes were part of the everyday lives of the beholders or whether they were just castaways and detested by their owners. The first floor featured various battle scenes with life size mannequins in the army, naval and air force halls. Rifles, machine guns and armouries used over the centuries were displayed in the Hall of Army.
An ideal place to visit during the summer, you will come out at awe learning the great power of the little island.
Opening Hours: Sunday to Thursday: 8am-1pm Friday: 2pm-6pm Saturday: 9am-12pm, 2pm-5pm Contact Details: +973 1749 5511 Location: Sh Hamood Bin Avenue | Near Sheikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort in East Riffa Entrance Fee: Free entrance. Make sure that you carry your ID card with you.
The first thing that held me to the spot in the Hall of Naval Force was the diffused water mine hanging at the centre of the Hall. I took some time to look around the models of ships displayed in the room as this unique piece was beyond any imagination. I must say that movies and history texts failed to create an accurate image of a water mine until I saw the real one. The Hall of Air Force had models of airplanes used during World War II and from the Royal Air Force. Sitting at the corner of the Hall is a gigantic piece of Scud missile that landed in Bahrain during the war of Kuwait in 1991. A hall dedicated to the revolution in 2011 detailed its origin, course of action and the final victory over the rebels. The uniforms used by the various forces over the years; the ammunitions such as torpedoes, bombs, missiles, and explosives of all kinds; and the medals awarded to the brave warriors over the years were also on display. Needless to say, all the halls display progression of Bahrain’s military throughout the Kingdom’s history. An ideal place to visit during the summer, you will come out at awe learning the great power of the little island. n Dhanyasree M is a writer-slash-travel enthusiast. Profile How are you finding Bahrain? Bahrain is my hometown, it's where I belong. I always miss it so bad even when I'm only away for days! What’s your favourite place in Bahrain and why? I love the fact that we are on an island. Having the pleasure of being surrounded with water is something I really treasure. My favourite place would be Sofitel because aside from its stunning beach, it is quiet, serene and secluded! What do you most like, and dislike, about your work? I love everything about my job, but everything has a price. Being exposed to different kinds of weather or environment can effect one’s health, skin and hearing abilities so I have to take extra precautions always.

Biggest lesson in life: People are going to talk, whether you’re doing bad or good. Worry about yourself before you worry about what others might think. If you can change anything in your life, what would it be? I’d like to be more athletic and adopt a healthier lifestyle. What makes you happy? Inspiring others to pursue their dreams. Favorite motto or saying: Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.n
People & Culture I pass by make-shift stalls selling candy, crisps – the local variety, beedis, and other knick-knacks. A dog by the side of the road laps up milk out of a metal bowl. So kind, this shop owner I say to myself, smiling. A little further, there’s a fishmonger, sitting with her pomfrets and mackerels and shrimp and clams. She’s wearing a bokan kashti – the traditional Mumbai fisherfolk sari. I smile at her but she doesn’t. Wow! If her smiles cost so much, how much would her fish? But then again, she’s worn down by the vicissitudes of life; her eyes say it all and the crowfeet around them. At the turning there’s a tuition class. Young people create a ruckus, talking, laughing, flirting even. Flashback to my college days. It’s been a while but not too long, I’m still in my prime. How much I’ve grown since, matured. Wait, is that a synonym for boring, I wonder.

Where there’s a park, there’s going to be children. They’re running around, screaming and shouting; children of well-todo families and street urchins. The contrast is sweetly striking. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we thought like them? Oops! I almost trampled a cat. The ginger moggy scans me with her gems of yellow. I’m not a cat person, I tell her. She ignores me and continues licking her paws and soft pillows of pink beneath them. Old men discuss the news of the day, vehemently gesturing as they state their opinions, sitting on a bench; on another bench I spot a couple displaying affection by the dozen; on yet another, there’s a handsome man sat down, lost in thought. Maybe he’s thinking of karak chai, I tell myself because suddenly, it starts to pour. Some run to find shelter while others enjoy the showers. I pop in my earphones; music and monsoon are a deadly

The grass smells intoxicating now. Stray myna birds are scattered across the park’s centre, a blanket of green. A group of gleeful gully boys practice their moves in a pagodalike structure. ‘Street’ is an emotion, you can tell, as you watch them pop and lock and krump and fail, and then, try again. My shoes are squeaking now, begging me to leave. Five more, minutes, I plead, in vain. On the way back, I wade through puddles, stuffing my face with hot pakoras for comfort; a pluviophile’s paradise. The dog I saw on my way to the park is now crouched under an ATM shed. Some sparrows are shimmying to dry themselves and black crows are cawing but not complaining. Until next time, fellas, I say and walk away. n

The Horses Prime Stud was originally built to breed Arabian show horses, and expanded to include liveries, hacks and riding lessons. Among the horses you’ll find one to fall in love with. Having visited other stables, I had given up hope of finding a yard that prioritised the horses’ welfare. I heard from a friend that Prime Stud were different, and I was not disappointed. The Facilities The air-conditioned barn has 20 stables, a lunge pen, and three large, well-maintained sand arenas. The main attraction, however, has to be the close proximity to the sea. Ladies Friday Bahrain Confidential reviews Sheraton Bahrain Hotel’s ‘Ladies Friday’ at Al Safir Restaurant.

Although we’re big fans of brunch, we have to admit that sometimes we find the vast amount of buffets a little excessive. Al Safir, on the other hand, have the right expanse of international dishes to enjoy.
The Ladies Friday Lunch is a must-try for holiday makers, a great way to catch up with the girls and the perfect excuse to have mouthwatering food!
L
unch with friends is a delight and Sheraton Bahrain Hotel’s ‘Ladies Friday’ offer is a delicious dining pleasure. Just recently, we were invited to try the Ladies Friday at the hotel’s Al Safir Restaurant and we were more than happy to see what the hype was all about! Al Safir’s Ladies Friday is available for lunch or dinner, with a 50% discount on the buffet. Armed with empty stomachs, we headed to Al Safir – the lunch starts at 12:30PM and we arrived at the restaurant just before 1PM. The vibe was really friendly and we were greeted by the smiling faces of the receptionist. We were then guided to our table that had the most refreshing view of the trees and pool.
The starters included seafood, salads, cold cuts and a selection of breads. Aside from the good selection of main dishes, there was also a live cooking station for steak and pasta. Each dish was truly special but our lunch favorites consisted of the Minute Steak, Lamb Kabsa, Salmon and Pesto Pasta! The delicious Minute Steak was extremely flavourful while the its sauce complemented it perfectly. The pesto pasta, on the other hand, was bursting with bold and fresh flavours; we had to stop ourselves from requesting for another bowl! Towards the end of lunch, we indulged in some decadent desserts. From cakes and tarts to ice cream and fresh fruits, your sweet tooth will definitely be satisfied. During the lunch, we had rounds of crème brulee, caramel flan, fruit tart and ice cream! Overall, it was a beautiful afternoon. The location was classy and the food was delicious! With the heat soaring its high 40’s, it is very rare to enjoy the afternoon. Luckily, Sheraton Bahrain Hotel has something crafted for the ladies! The Ladies Friday Lunch is a must-try for holiday makers, a great way to catch up with the girls and the perfect excuse to have mouthwatering food! n Lunch: BD 10+++, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm Dinner: BD 10+++, 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm Ladies Friday: 50% discount on buffet only For more information: www.sheratonbahrain.com +973 17533533

Because compassion costs nothing A few days back, I was heading home from the mall, when suddenly a random lady came near, and said ‘I just wanted to say that you dress looks very pretty’. While it was the smallest conversation ever, it took me totally by surprise and I was literally beaming with happiness on my way back home. This little happening led me to think- how often do we take a few minutes out to compliment people? How difficult is it to reach out to someone and say something nice? In today’s world, every single person is fighting a battle. We are continuously struggling for one thing or the other and our lifestyle is more demanding than any of our ancestors’. Every person is so busy streamlining stuff and making the best of the little time available, that we sometimes completely forget about the little joys of life. A little compliment, a humble advice, a helping hand and even a look of empathy- as simple as these little gestures sound, their impact is always huge. While you have no idea who really needs your words, you also don’t know how far they will go. A few words of a stranger in a mall, not only made my day but also made me wonder, why have I never thought of doing the same? If we dislike something, we generally spare no moment in showing it through our actions and expressions, sometime also with our words. Why can’t this work the other way round? How many times have you seen and admired people in your heart? Their courage, their determinations, their sense of style or the efforts they put in their work? How about reaching them out and putting your thoughts into words? Trust me the unanticipated kind words are always the best, and the good that you send out would surely come back to you, in the most unexpected ways. Try it once, it’s addictiveand totally worth it! n

We are pleased to recognize, for the first time, the best restaurants in Bahrain. Bahrain Confidential the asked experts from Bahrain’s leading luxury hotels to reveal what were in their opinion the island’s best restaurants. Each hotel provided up to 3 F&B professionals, whose job it is to know what makes a restaurant special, to judge. No suggestions were offered. Our only stipulation was that restaurants recommended must not be connected to their own hotel band. Based on combined votes there were 12 winners + 28 restaurants that were “Highly Recommended.”

We Are Our Own Competition The only real competition that exists is within ourselves... Life is a competition, but it’s not a race against anyone else. Rather, the real journey is only against yourself and your potential. We have to strive to become the better version of our self and improve our life in all possible aspects. The outcome of our journey in being better will prove to be the most valuable and precious thing in our lives! Oftentimes, we acknowledge both the good and bad habits that we engage in our lifestyle. However, I believe that most of these habits are done unconsciously. To experience our maximum potential, we need to make an effort to be in a conscious state of mind. We need to practice mindfulness on a daily basis. The more we think and involve ourselves in any challenges, problems or tasks in life; the more are the chances to solve or achieve it in the best way possible. Nevertheless, most of us don’t pay enough attention to our experiences and just let each day pass by. Don’t live your life as a programmed robot – rather, experience each moment and bask in all its hardships and greatness so that as time passes by, you will not have any regrets. When you get old, you can look back and feel good about yourself for all the challenges that you faced and struggles you took on. Live to the fullest without any regret and hesitation. We are all human beings and on this planet, we are the most sophisticated machine ever created. n

FASTING This was the first time in years that one of my friend asked me to fast during Ramadan and I was all excited to experience it as a new challenge. Our body is used to being without food from the early ages as days men didn’t have much food. Having three meals was considered a luxury! Fasting is a reminder for us to realize the value of food and water. But mainly to control our urge for desires so as to access higher level of spirituality. Our ancestors knew that by incorporating it into our religion we would follow it by fear or faith. I thought it would be difficult for me to manage my yoga classes alongside. But as the fast began I was in the flow I didn’t realize any discomfort. Being a yoga teacher I also used this time to meditate to use energy in a better way and it went quite smooth. I realized a lot about food during this period. Some things that I thought were a necessity I was able to avoid conveniently. This changed the way I thought about food. The growling sensation in my stomach didn’t produce anxiety within me anymore and that helped me control my urge to eat. When I see food now my brain automatically processes the feeling of how it would feel in my stomach. If I sense discomfort, all the tendencies to consume it fade away. I used to have food for pleasure despite it making me uncomfortable. Now I see to it that whatever I consume makes me feel light and good. This is definitely going to be my way to reset my relationship with food anytime I find that my mind can’t control its desires. What’s your relationship with food? Do you like the way it is or what it change? I definitely recommend you to try fasting (any method) to feel differently and find new ways to think about food. Your experience might be completely different and might just bring in that change that your mind your body and your soul is looking for. n Namaste!

Aside from the heat, what do you dislike about Bahrain? There isn't much to dislike aside from the heat aside from the heavy traffic on weekends! Let’s be honest, if there was something to dislike about Bahrain, I wouldn't be living here. It’s like my second home now! Favorite holiday destination? Santorini, Mykonos (Greece) Favorite song at the moment? Ride – Twenty One Pilots Quote/Motto you live by? "Set your goals and make the decisions to get there” – This quotation always reminds me of how close I am to reaching the goals I’ve set and how hard I’m working. It helps me get back up again! n
