Ending My Social Media Addiction According to various surveys, people now spend one-quarter of their waking hours dedicated to FB, Snapchat, and Instagram. Sorry, but this is mostly time completely wasted! It’s also I sign we are not in control of our lives. Social media wields such a strong influence on us because it appeals to our deepest psychological instinct – the need to be social. It gives us social validation. When we post something that receives likes and shares, we feel validated. The brain produces the chemicals Dopamine, which leaves us with a feeling of accomplishment, and Oxytocin, which makes us feel close to others. Fear of missing out is another reason people find it difficult to switch off. FOMO stems from our natural feelings of insecurity. Social media also provides a platform for our egos. It helps us maintain a favorable image of ourselves. These feelings can lead to addiction. Recently I recognized that I was spending about a third of my waking hours on social media. I felt disgusted as I realized I was wasting my time – and my life. So, I decided to take action and last month made the difficult but important decision to quit social media for 7 whole days. I announced to everyone I was doing this (on social media!) and then turned off all my apps. It was extremely tough at first – I was used to always checking my phone - but I got used to it faster than I thought possible. Now I am back on social media but I limit my time on Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram to just two 30 minute sessions a day, and about double that at weekends. I feel great for doing it! I also plan to repeat my 7 day social media ‘detox’ every couple of months, just to stay in control of myself. While a complete digital detox may not be an option for you, I can’t recommend enough that you try limiting the time you spend on social media. Like giving up any drug, it’s hard at first but you’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment afterwards. I sure did! Social media addiction is a much larger problem than we think. And like all addictions, realizing the problem is the first step towards healing. n

Commanding Your Fears There are days where we feel less than perfect and unsatisfied with where we are in life. You had a bad day, feeling unsupported, not good enough, and things keep going wrong! We compare ourselves to one another and how our friends are moving ahead and this just makes you feel even worse. Fear gains momentum pushing us to believe the falsehood that we aren’t capable or deserving of the good stuff. Focusing on what we think we lack and the story our minds creates is the problem. Constantly viewing our lack, issues, selflimiting beliefs is what creates our circumstances. This grows our fears into permanent tenants of our lives. Combat fear by having a conversation with it. What would that sound like? “Hey fear, I know you want to hang out, and I will allow it for a few minutes, because I was raised well but it’s getting old now! What I want in my life is much bigger than any hold you think you have over me. Now you see that door? It’s time to leave and don’t think of leaving anything behind so you can come back for it later!” The conversation in your head and perception on fear is the key to dissolving it. FEAR is a liar. Daily GRATTITUDE is the truth to a brighter path in life.

Know this: You are unique, special and have so much hidden treasure inside of you. See it! Embody it! This will immediately lessen stress, enabling you to make the space needed to take a few steps ahead. Instead of ruminating over things that hold you back. Use FEAR as your emotional indicator that your focus needs to shift now. Instead of allowing it to repetitively prevents you from feeling good or reaching goals. Fear can be crippling. STOP allowing FEAR to define you and wine you into the fear trance. Simply there is no value and it will not lead you to what you desire most. n

On Adult ADHD... Have you been having difficulties focusing, missing deadlines at work or struggling with relationships? If your answer to any of the above questions is a “Yes” then you may be suffering from something termed as the ‘Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’ (ADHD). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders among children and adults in the world today. The symptoms start in early childhood and in some cases persist in adulthood. It can affect people of all ages, with an estimated prevalence rate of 2-5% in adults worldwide. Symptoms of adult ADHD mainly include inattention difficulties, problems controlling impulsive behaviors, self-regulation of behavior, hyperactivity, distractibility, inability to switch off internal thoughts, disorganization problems, troubles multitasking, restlessness, poor planning skills, frequent mood swings, problems with completion of tasks, trouble coping with stress, poor time management skills may also be seen in adults with ADHD. Undiagnosed ADHD in childhood can make diagnosis of adult ADHD difficult and challenging as overtime these individuals develop coping strategies, masking the symptomatology in adulthood.

Treatment of Adult ADHD Behavioral management techniques such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Counselling, Coaching and Mindfulness based Cognitive therapy (MBCT) are beneficial in reducing the symptoms of adult ADHD. Drug treatments may be advisable independently or in combination with therapeutic interventions depending on the severity of the symptoms. If you have been experiencing any difficulties relating to symptoms of adult ADHD, please contact our Multidisciplinary Mental Health professional team at Insights Therapy Center for a consultation session, formal assessment, and a range of behavioral and therapeutic treatment options. n

We’ve stayed in Paphos area for half of the trip and got to enjoy the beautiful, Coral Beach Resort. It was truly incredible to fall asleep and wake up listening to the relaxing sea waves. If you are into hiking, you should go to Troodos mountains. The picturesque range covered by fragrant lavish forests has numerous hiking and cycling routes to enjoy. Skiing is available up in Troodos during winter.

History & Culture Cyprus is very rich in history which is 10,000 years long. The symbol of the island is Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love. According to mythology she was born near Paphos area from the sea foam. The “Petra You Romiou” is one of the most beautiful coastlines and it is said to

be the place where Aphrodite came out of the waters. The prehistoric inhabitants were joined by Mycenaean Greeks 3500 years ago who established their civilisation and mostly defined the culture in Cyprus. A must-visit is the Kourion city-kingdom (19 km from Limassol) with an iconic amphitheater located by the sea built in 2nd century AD. People can enjoy theatrical performances with a gorgeous sea view surrounded by graceful cypress trees just like the ancient Kourion founders! There is an ancient private villa with an impressive recreation complex nearby. It is a complex of baths and rooms, an ancient spa, decorated with stunning mosaic floors dated 5th century AD. Kato Pafos Archaeological Park in Paphos is another important site included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Authenticity & Character What I really loved about Cyprus is the fact that it is still authentic despite today’s globalization. Nowadays, everywhere you travel, all you can see are Starbucks’s and Zara outlets. Cyprus kept its authenticity well and you can easily remember its character.

All of the above are the best local traditional food. However, if anyone is keen to have a fine dining experience, there is nothing better than Vivaldi by Mavromattis – a restaurant in the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol. Owned by Andreas Mavromattis, the only Cypriot Michelin Chef in the world, it provides the finest cuisine on the island. And we’ve got to dine there and meet Mr. Mavromattis himself!

City Life

Of course international chains are available but they don't overshadow the local entities. People are amazing in Cyprus! Hospitality is in their blood and they treat guests like family members. Cypriots are full of life and are positive, preaching that special Mediterranean laid-back and stress free lifestyle. Their philosophy is to enjoy life to the fullest and celebrate it. To experience this, we headed to the Kings of Aphrodite taverna in Pafos for a dinner program. We had a great time watching and participating in traditional dancing. A lot of fun indeed! For a more authentic experience, it is highly recommended to visit the villages for the crafts, souvenirs, shopping or food workshops. My favorite was Halloumi and bread making workshop at Sophia’s house in the village of Letymbou. Another village to visit is Omodos. It is one of the most picturesque villages in Cyprus.

Gastronomy Food alone is a solid reason to visit Cyprus! Forget international food chains and head to any local taverna for the tastiest meals with generous portions. Traditional eating style is based on sharing so you will get to try various dips, appetizers and mains! What amazed me most is that how much flavor there is in the simplest dishes. Here is my must-try recommendation list: • Greek/village salad (horiatiki) - Made with sun kissed tomatoes, onions, extra virgin olive oil and fresh feta cheese. • Halloumi cheese - Native to Cyprus, it is a firm cheese made by mixing goat’s, sheep’s and sometimes cow’s milk. It can be consumed cold (raw) but best eaten grilled. This one is my absolute winner! We had it in each place we’ve visited during the trip but my Oscar goes to O’Vrakas Taverna in Pissouri Village near Limassol for its excellent grilled Halloumi accompanied by delicious homemade fig and pomegranate sauce! Yum! • Fish meze (meze is an assortment) - It is called “fish” but you will be served with a good mix of seafood and different types of fish. The best we’ve tried was La Mer in Limassol and Ais Georgis Pegeias in Pafos. If you are a meat lover there is a meat meze too! • Baklava - filo pastries stuffed with crushed nuts and soaked in syrup. It’s not a light dessert but worth every calorie! • Cyprus coffee - Served in espresso cups, it has a distinguished mild non-bitter taste. If you like it without sugar, say “sketos”. “Metrios” goes for medium sweet and “Glykos” for sweet.

Limassol is the most bustling, lively and modern city in Cyprus. It is spread along the coastline with a huge promenade. Numerous hotels, bars, restaurants are available there thus, Limassol offers a good nightlife. One of the very best hotel to stay in Limassol is the 5 star Amathus Beach Hotel. The hotel is very popular among tourists and offers stunning sea view rooms, relaxing atmosphere and excellent service by the very efficient staff. We’ve had a truly enjoyable stay. I loved the view from my room during dusk! Left with heartfelt memories, new dear Cypriot friends, and full of amazing experiences, I conclude that Cyprus isn't just a one-time-visit destination. I need to be back for another dose of its unique lifestyle! n

Dear fat girl I see you as you stand awkwardly with your hands crossed over your stomach, trying to be the least visible in the crowd, tug-tugging at your hair. I walk behind you as its time to buy new clothes – how have those old ones become so snug so quickly? – you pass all the brand names; all the cool clothes your peers are flaunting. You go straight to the aisle where you know you will find comfort, if not style and beauty. The sales lady asks if she can get you another size, No, it fits perfectly you say, its just not my style after all. Today we met up with some old school friends, they were so nice and fit and you laughed along heartily as every day fat jokes were passed around. One of the girls spoke of another friend of hers that lost so much weight, looked at you and said, she’s done so well, and she was TWICE your size. Wow, you say, that’s amazing for her. Afterwards I hear you cry in the bathroom as I stand with my hands on the outside of the door and my ear pressed to it, as if trying to absorb all your sadness and self- loathing by merely willing it so. Dear fat girl, I see you’ve been more active lately, you try and stop when you’re full, not when you feel less sad. You accept the compliments that come your way more readily and smile when people say you are so beautiful now. You dare to laugh just a little bit louder in conversation. I am so happy for you. I thought it would be alright for me to leave you on your own, so I left. I came to check up on you today. You look truly amazing. I smiled to myself and turned to leave again. Halfway down the stairs I stopped. I listened. From your room I could hear your faint sobs. I quickly ran up the stairs and opened your door. You were just sitting there, alone on your floor, weeping into your hands. I could see the blisters on your heels from your jog this morning. I kneeled beside you, put my arms around your shoulders and wept with you. I held onto you and promised I would never leave you again. You, that is me, as much as I am you. n

A.L.I.G.N.M.E.N.T ALIGNMENT- The first time I heard this word was when I was in a yoga class. She often said “Listen to your body”. When I heard it for the first time I laughed out loud. But the seriousness with which she kept repeating the phrase made me wonder. I then decided to seek clarification and she explained: “Riya, have you ever experienced a headache?” I nodded yes. “How do you know what’s going to make you feel better, a cup of tea or a massage? It’s because your body is indicating what it needs and you are listening to it. Likewise, our body is always communicating but we have to take the efforts to listen.” This was a huge eye opener for me.as it meant anytime we chose to ignore the communication we would face problems. To make this communication evident we have to be constantly aware and connected to our body. It’s going be very difficult to even realize that there is a channel we need to tune into. The communication in the start almost feels absent because it’s no more than a whisper. This may feel very absurd at the start. That’s because firstly, we were never taught about this in school. Secondly, due to our extreme external focus introspection seems completely irrelevant. The day I realized this it opened a whole new aspect of life for me. I became more disciplined with my yoga practice. I got better with my physical alignments and that directly deepened my emotional sense of being. I became more aligned and aware of my likes, dislikes, goals, and purpose. It made my intuitive feelings stronger and I have learned to embrace and seek guidance from it. Alignment has been a key factor for me to feel centered and grounded. Any situation which makes me feel unhappy, I meditate and analyze to gain more understanding of what doesn’t align with my values/goals. It’s made problemsolving quite simple. It’s easier said than done and there are no quick fixes. But as soon as I get aligned I find an answer for sure. n

Ahead of the Curve Bahrain Confidential interviews, Jumeirah Royal Saray Bahrain’s new general manager, Spencer H. Wadama.

C

ongratulations on your new post, how are you finding Bahrain?

Well, being that I am still quite new I have not really seen much outside the hotel. In asking many of my GCC friends, I have heard many positive comments about the people of Bahrain.

continue to innovate and observe. The service aspect of hotels is ever so dynamic and one that you always have to try and stay ahead of the curve. Watch the guests’ behavior and adapt, the days of standard procedures when it come to the guest experience is long gone. This and always watching your basics of service. Deliver on the expectation and go beyond when you can.

Tell us a bit about your background, what motivated you to work in this industry?

What is your action plan for the upcoming months?

That’s a complicated story, but there’s truth in the idea that you can “go for a job and find a career”. I am a “grass roots” hotelier that began his career as a Housekeeper in a great company. The growth that I have enjoyed was because of amazing leaders and mentors in my life and incredible trust and support.

With our Holy Month upon us, we have for the first time a true Ramadan tent to welcome our guests. Al Saraya Tent is a truly unique venue with a beautiful transparent dome to offer an ‘under the stars’ Iftar and Gabgha experience. It will be the ideal location for our guests and corporate celebrations. We also have launched out a new event space which include a ballroom, meeting space and a Royal Majlis. We are excited to bring weddings and events to our property.

Can you shed light on your vision for Jumeirah Royal Saray Bahrain? Honestly, to continue to polish the diamond. Bahrain has some of the best of the best hotel brands in the world and Jumeirah ranks right up there with them, so my vision is to continue to position the property against them and continue to enhance the reputation of Jumeirah in Bahrain as the destination of choice. We are fortunate to have very good ownership and we share a vision of being the best.

Internationally, the luxury hotel sector has become more crowded and more demanding. How are you catering to the modern traveler? I feel that in this growing competitive climate, we need to

60 Bahrain Confidential May 2019

Is there a particular saying or motto that guides you? Carpe Diem (simply stated, seize the day) – tomorrow is never promised, so make the most of today, value those relationships, show gratitude and help others.

Which part of Bahrain is your favorite and why? Jumeirah Royal Saray, because it’s gorgeous and well, because I have not had a moment to go out and explore. n

Feature You joined The Ritz-Carlton in 2003. How has your journey been so far? I’ve often been told I could write a book about my career journey at The Ritz-Carlton. I have held multiple frontline staff positions and have been involved in a lot of human resource milestones. My career journey has made me a better person inside and out. I truly love and appreciate every second of my experience and if had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What does your typical work day look like? Busy yet organized! My typical work day involves having an ‘open outlook calendar’ which means being easily accessible anytime. My routine starts with clerical work, briefing meetings with the team, strategic planning and more. I love being organized so I make sure that I end my day with completed tasks.

What would you say is the hardest part of your job? Human resource is considered as one of the most important aspects of any organization and there are several challenges that come with it. At The Ritz-Carlton, we are not just an administrative division. We are also the cheerleaders for the Ladies and Gentlemen of the property. Although working in human resources is an enjoyable thing to do, it can also be quite challenging to inspire and influence people.

What is the best career advice you have ever received? “I could teach you skills, but I could never teach you attitude”. It is something that the general manager from my first job told me when he presented me an employment contract. Decades have passed but I still live by this advice. For me, it is all about having the right attitude.

Passion for People Bahrain Confidential interviews May Lyn Ramos Gulmatico, the new Director of Human Resources of The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain.

Bahrain Confidential interviews Mohamed Alburshaid, the mind behind Bahrain’s hottest fitness restaurant, Fitway Kitchen.

Fitway Kitchen

T

ell us more about Fitway Kitchen, how did it come about?

As an athlete living in Bahrain, I found it hard to look for healthy food without preservatives that also taste good. When I first started preparing for my competition early 2018, I tried to look for meal preps but everything I found out was either lacking in taste factor or more expensive than it should be – this sparked my interest to contact suppliers and companies, paving the way for Fitway Kitchen. Upon comparing our services, I believe that our restaurant offers the most affordable home cooked meal preps.

What inspired you to open Fitway Kitchen? I wanted people to be able to stick to their diets and reach their fitness goals, without sacrificing the quality of their food intake. Dieting does not mean not indulging in delicious food; at Fitway Kitchen, we make sure that our customers have the best that’s why they stick to us.

There is an abundance of restaurants in Bahrain, what makes Fitway Kitchen stand out? Delicious healthy food, fool-proof services, flexible schedule, affordable price and a perfect delivery service. Additionally, all of our dishes are freshly-prepared in our kitchen. Not only do our customers reach the needed calorie intake, their taste buds are also satisfied with the delicious meal preps we provide. With different meals each day, our customers definitely sign up again.

Can you tell us more about your objective to help athletes in Bahrain? I know that most of my fellow athletes have experienced financial issues, without any kind of support. We started Fitway Kitchen with a goal to support athletes by sponsoring them not only through meal preps but also their tickets, registration fees and monetary help if needed. At present, we are sponsoring 9 athletes who in turn have supported the restaurant. For more information: +973 6699 6757 @fitway_kitchen

Are there any specific promotions that you want to share? A special Ramadan offer throughout Ramadan is available for only BD100: this includes 3 meals, salad and a snack - DELIVERED! n

Bahrain Confidential shares a conversation with Splash CEO, Raza Beig.

Splash into the Season

J

ust recently, Splash, launched an exquisite limited edition collection in collaboration with four of the Arab region’s most iconic fashion designers. We had the chance to interview its CEO, Raza Beig…

Why did you decide to hold this event at multiple locations beyond Dubai this year? The idea actually came from a customer who messaged me on Instagram – she commended Splash’s fancy fashion shows in Dubai and asked when we are hosting one in Oman. I thought, “why not?”. As a leading retailer in the region, we need to do something to create a buzz and hopefully spark inspiration to others.

We take the lead in today’s fashion-aware world and have been continuing to do so for over two decades. Will this be a regular occurrence? I hope so!

What makes Splash special? Because we are the first! Over the last 26 years, we have not deviated from our values: to look after the middle-income

66 Bahrain Confidential May 2019

families who want to dress up well without breaking the bank. We take the lead in today’s fashion-aware world and have been continuing to do so for over two decades.

What is Ramadan style? It is easy and comfortable fashion for Suhoors, Iftars and other celebrations. The Splash Ramadan collection is a celebration of the holy month with bold kaftans, long flowy dresses with embellishments, and a world of prints including floral, geometric and animal prints.

The 4 designers you are promoting – please give me a quick brief on what makes each special: Nina Zandnia is an inspiring fashionista who does a lot of 70s-inspired nautical collections; Aiisha Ramadan is an international fashion designer well-known for her feminine yet contemporary designs; Ken Ferns make sophisticated designs that are inspired by and draw elements from Asian culture; and Essa Walla does very well-constructed kaftans with beautiful fabrics and signature prints.

Can you share any future plans you have for the brand? As this region grows, we grow with it. Splash has established itself in the GCC and we aim to progress into untapped markets and new locations especially Africa. n The collection is now available across all 9 branches in Bahrain, just in time for Ramadan shopping.

Going Out

Man’oush Street

M

an'oushe Street, a popular Middle Eastern restaurant announced the opening of its two newest stores in Juffair and Saar, marking the brands 3rd and 4th location in the Kingdom.

Mint Trading Partners, a retail investment group focused in F&B businesses within the GCC, holds the franchise of Man’oush Street in Bahrain. It had earlier signed a franchise agreement to develop eight new Man’oushe Street branches in Bahrain and seven in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the next ten years. Man’oushe Street debuted in Bahrain last year when it opened its Central Production kitchen with a delivery service in Riffa. Serving traditional and home-styled street food, it quickly garnered popularity which lead to the opening of its second branch in Almoayyed Tower in Seef. Marking a strategic move, the concept has expanded their presence to Juffair and Saar, areas populated with an expatriate and strong local demographic, targeting a customer base with an appetite for tradition, innovation and Lebanese cuisine. Man’oushe street was born in 2010 right out of tradition. It is a celebration of love depicting how mothers lovingly prepare food, the manāqīsh, for their children. Bahrain embraces tradition and from that Man’oushe Street draws inspiration to carry that tradition and authenticity of the mothers who would wake up early in the morning just to make a manoushe. Man’oushe Street made its Middle East entry in 2010 in the United Arab Emirates. It has since been committed to delivering healthy and mouth-watering dishes featuring classic Lebanese favorites. It is the taste and smell of home, speaking the language of Lebanese traditions yet infused with a modern twist. This is Man’oushe Street. n

Cycling Bees Ladies - if you want to keep fit this Ramadan, get on a bike.

R

amadan is a time of the year where many women eat more and move less. But, eating healthy and exercising over Ramadan, is an excellent opportunity to lose weight and detox the body. If you want to exercise but don’t know where to start, I recommend cycling. I have always been a massive health and fitness advocate. Over the years I have tried different sports, and I have seen different fitness crazes come and go in Bahrain. Cycling is the only sport, with a supportive community, that I have seen grow from strength to strength. When I decided to take up cycling I didn’t know where to start, so I joined Cycling Bees in March 2018. I was nervous about my first ride and worried that I might not keep up. When I arrived the girls where very warm, welcoming and supportive. I was greeted by the founder Sarah Al Sammak (Sarah Cyclist) and the co-captain Dana Zubari.

you have the option to rent a bike and helmet before committing to buying your own. All you need is your water bottle, and padded shorts to stop your bum hurting, and you’re good to go. Safety is priority. The Bees van drives behind the group to protect the ladies from oncoming traffic, if you get a flat tire, run out of water or get too tired and need a rest. Usually the group meet on Friday mornings or Wednesday evenings. However, over the month of Ramadan the Bees will be catering for those who are fasting, changing their timings to evening rides. A few months back, Sarah opened the Cycling Bees home in Budaiya, where girls can use the indoor bike turbo trainers, and take classes in cycling. She has continued to encourage ladies to get involved in sport, while also helping the community by inviting local instructors and sports coaches to help give the girls professional advice. Last year, the first ladies Iron Man triathlon group was created to encourage women (beginners) to learn to run, swim and cycle. This Ramadan try something new. At Cycling Bees, you’re not just joining a cycling club, you are joining a community of amazing women who support and impower each other. The energy from the girls is addictive. n

Majority of the ladies in the group where local, along with the founders, with a few expats including myself. The group consisted of all ages and fitness levels, which really put my mind at ease. Even busy working mums made it to the ride. After the ride, the group met for coffee and a chat. The social aspect is something I really loved. So, if you’re new to cycling like I was, don’t worry! When you join,

HV Holistic Health,

Ramadan Guide Saved by the sleep Social gatherings have a habit of disrupting sleep but, it’s important to let your body rest, especially if you’re trying to avoid gaining weight this Ramadan. Here are a few tips to guide you • Get enough hours in consolidated blocks of sleep (4-5hr) throughout the day. • Don’t go a day without seeing daylight. • Reduce time on electronic devices at night. • Keep consistent, have a regular bed, wake and nap time. • Stick to a routine. It helps lower stress on the body.

Diet detox

M

uslims who fast during Ramadan, abstain from eating and drinking between sunrise and sunset, each day, for one month. Although it may be a tiring month, it’s still important to make time for exercise. Exercise and fasting can go together, and you can enjoy your healthiest and happiest Ramadan yet!

Use this period as an opportunity to think about what you are eating, and how it affects your body, and your moods. Ramadan is an excellent opportunity to initiate positive changes to your diet and lifestyle. Start by: • Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. • Avoiding sugary, oily or fried foods. • Eating good quality proteins to break your fast. • Drinking the correct amount of water for your body weight. (kg x 0.033 = litres) n

Training time For most people, the best time to exercise in Ramadan is right before sunset. You can push yourself a little more, knowing that you’re going to break your fast soon. If a busy schedule doesn’t allow that, I recommend working out about one hour after Iftar. You will have digested some of the food, and have more energy. Make sure you don’t overeat though; a light meal is best. Initially, start your exercise sessions slowly, and increase the intensity day by day. The most difficult time to train is midday, because you will be unable to refuel after exertion. However, if that’s the only time available, I recommend low intensity exercises, for a shorter period of time.

Which workout? I advise you not to push your limits, or try to set personal records during this month. Treat it as a time to ‘maintain’ your fitness levels and remain consistent with your training. Continue with your exercise routine, as long as it’s not too challenging. Stick to strength training and moderate cardio. High intensity interval training (HIIT), should be avoided, it throws the heart rate too high. If you do want to do high-intensity cardio, it should be done after you break fast. If you are new to exercise, try lighter physical activity, such as, walking and stretching. This will still be really beneficial.

Profile

Name:

Tulin Meric

Profession: Certified Makeup Artist/ Stylist/Fashion/Beauty/ Lifestyle blogger Nationality: British/Turkish

Profile How are you finding Bahrain? I've lived in Bahrain for almost 8 years and I love it here. Everyone is very welcoming and open. It's very much like a little Dubai.

I don't really have any dislikes. The only thing I would say is that I wouldn't mind an assistant every now and again (carrying those cases of makeup around can get quite tiring)!

What’s your favourite place in Bahrain and why? Most probably Riffa Fort. There aren't many high points in Bahrain but this is certainly one of them. The views are amazing and the sunsets are so peaceful.

Biggest lesson in life: To stand up for yourself and to learn to sometimes say no. To always have an air of confidence and grace in whatever you do.

What do you most like, and dislike, about your work? When I apply makeup to a client, the best feeling comes instantly at the end, when they look in the mirror with complete delight. The words “oh wow” have to be the most fulfilling and joyous words to hear. In addition to makeup, I love to be up-to-date with fashion trends for my styling clients (or for my blog), especially when it comes to modest wear. Also, having women say that they admire my sense of style especially modest fashion, makes me happy that I'm an inspiration for them.

74 Bahrain Confidential May 2019

If you can change anything in your life, what would it be? To pursue your dreams. To be insistent on what you want and to never lose faith. To not be intimidated by other successful people around you but rather to see them as inspiration and a drive to follow through with what you really want to achieve in life. What makes you happy? Seeing my husband and children happy is just the best feeling ever! Favorite motto or saying: "It's never too late to be what you might have been." - George Elliot n

La Table Krug by Y Bahrain Confidential tries the ‘most exclusive fine dining experience’ at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain.

80 Bahrain Confidential May 2019

Going Out

J

ust recently, The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain welcomed its 12th restaurant concept – an exclusive 16-person experience by award-winning Executive Chef Yann Bernard Lejard. La Table Krug by Y marks the first Krug Ambassade in the Middle East and the fourth exclusive La Table Krug in the world.

The Backstory From the vineyards of Reims, France, with a heritage dating back to 1843, combined with a master chef that transcends fine dining into high art, the region’s first and smallest fine dining restaurant is born, introducing La Table Krug by Y. The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain’s General Manager Bernard de Villèle shares that this is his second La Table Krug to open after the St. Regis Mexico City’s success. Joining the official Krug Ambassade program, represented in 27 countries all over the world, La Table Krug by Y at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain will mark the 151st Ambassade, the first-ever in the Middle East and the fourth La Table Krug restaurant concept within the community after Vienna, Mexico City, and Berlin.

EXPeRiMENCe La Table Krug by Y takes the most discerning of palates on an epicurean 8-course journey of the senses, all with feeling of dining in a 19th century estate house in the country side of France. The EXPeRiMENCe 0.1 menu by Executive Chef Yann Bernard Lejard unveils a sensual 8-course journey with every bite awakening both the palate and mind. ‘EXPeRiMENCe’ is play on words of ‘experiment’ and ‘experience’ which were reflected in each dish. Directeur de Restaurant and master mixologist Riccardo Fabian Ciancilla also takes part in this unique dining experience. During the evening, each dish was artfully plated in a Picassolike form, we almost didn’t want to dig in! The menu highlights

signatures like the: Hamour lemon ginger, light foie gras and Oscietra caviar; Local Bahraini vegetables with confit lobster and mango emulsion; and the Elbow Pasta cooked in a risotto style with unctuous coriander, truffle and quail. The first dish was served in a sardine tin which was an unexpected touch! The desserts also came in like a surprise as each one was presented creatively! Even the table setting is equally unique – the nouveau high fashion concept of ‘rough luxury’ still serves as an inspiration for the dining concept. What’s even more noteworthy was how each element uses only the finest setting; silver tableware by Christofle, plates by Bernardaud Ecume, crystal glasses by Reidel and even the chef’s touch of hand-made local pottery by Bahrain’s own Nada pottery. Overall, La Table Krug by Y was a satisfying culmination of delight for all the senses. The night surpassed our expectations it truly is a one-of-a-kind experience in Bahrain. We’d love to try it again soon! n For additional information, or to reserve, dial the dining concierge directly at (+973) 1758 6699, or email bahrz.latable.krug@ ritzcarlton.com.
