ONE FAMILY, THREE GENERATIONS, THREE RIDERS, ONE MISSION 3 generations of passion
Arai is not some massive corporation run by ever-changing management teams, all which have one thing in common: more profits and cheaper production costs. Fact is: we’re pretty much the opposite in every way possible. Arai is a true family owned company, driven by the same family, with the same mission, through three generations. Three generations of riders. This fact tends to make you look at things differently than the anonymous management executives do. Because, if your family’s name - and your family’s honor - were on the front of your helmet, how many corners would you cut? How many shortcuts would you take? Or, if cost would be the most important element, how much is a head worth? Our mission has always been the protection and comfort of riders. To the best of our ability. Period. For this reason, we deliberately give our helmets a smooth outer shell, although edgy or square designs might be more fashionable. Our smooth shell has less change of getting hooked or snagged during a crash, causing unnecessary damage or injuries, thanks to this functional shape of the shell.
Akihito Arai
At Arai standards like ECE or SNELL are our baseline, not our goal. Why? Because standards create minimum criteria. And while many helmet makers design their helmets to meet those minimums, ‘’good enough’’ has just never been good enough around here. Not for us, not for the riders we serve. (Remember, we answer only to ourselves.) That is why we use our own ‘’in-house’’ test standard. A standard, that is more demanding than the mandatory standard, with multiple impacts, penetration tests, random impact areas instead of pre-defined impact points and higher impact velocities. We do believe that the Arai in-house test standard represents a very tough helmet test. It is based on decennia of experience and investigation of crashed helmets both on the track and on the public road. All our considerable knowhow in helmet technology is used to define this Arai ‘’in-house’’ test standard. At the end of the day the choice is yours. There are real differences between helmets, but only you can say whether those differences are worth it to you or not. We hope you see the difference in Arai, and in the three generations of the family behind it.

rx-7 RC helmet
the rx-7 RC the ultimate in carbon fibre
With a yearly maximum export production of just 300 pieces, exclusivity of the RX-7 RC is guaranteed. The technology is based on that of the Formula 1 GP-6 RC car racing helmet. It consists of an extremely stiff and light carbon fibre outer shell, reinforced with the “Peripherally Belted” construction. Especially for the RX-7 RC we searched and found in the aircraft industry a superior carbon fibre quality. It takes a skilled Arai craftsman a full working day just to make one outer shell from this superior material. But not only the outer shell, also the EPS inner liner is a work of art with no less than five different densities seamlessly combined in one inner shell setting new standards in this respect. The result of all this breathtaking technology is not only a very beautiful, but also a very light and strong helmet. The RX-7 RC is by far the lightest SNELL M2010 approved helmet on the market today. Just like the RX-7 GP, the RX-7 RC offers the unique feature of being both ECE 22-05 and Snell M2010 approved! Of course the RX-7 RC offers all the features of the RX-7 GP including the wide SAI visor, improved diffuser ventilation, Air Wing adjustable spoiler and grey removable Dry-Cool® interior.

the rx-7 GP range sophisticated technology for hypersports riders
The RX-7 GP made a huge impact when it was introduced and is now widely acclaimed as the benchmark in motorcycle helmets. Input from our MotoGP riders has led to the introduction of the ‘Air Wing’ spoiler, reducing drag and turbulence. This sits in between the newly designed diffuser which is designed to channel the air flow and reduce noise levels. New performance levels are achieved by the revolutionary PB-SNC outer shell, which incorporates a special belt construction taken from our Formula 1 helmets.

chaser-v helmet range
the chaser-v range evolution of a legend
The ‘’Chaser-V’’ is the evolution of the successful Chaser model. What is new on the Chaser-V? First the use of the wide aperture and SAI visor offering a better view on the road, improving both comfort and convenience. Comfort is significantly improved by the modified ventilation system. The large rear vent now creates a 50% higher vacuum, noticeable improving the ventilation of the interior. Larger side vents and the redesigned rear vent not only improve comfort, but also the design and styling of the Chaser-V with its SFL construction outer shell. An interesting detail is the front vent: when closed the aerodynamic properties of the Chaser-V are further improved for more comfort. Finally the shape of the interior has been improved to better follow the lines of the head, preventing pressure points and offering the necessary tight, yet comfortable fit. Featured tech*: rear vent
Extra large rear vent creates a strong vacuum, improving the inside ventilation of the helmet and offering a distinctive design touch to the Chaser-V.

axces II helmet range
the axces II range NEW WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ARAI
A genuine Arai helmet in a popular price segment. The Axces II is the perfect entrance to the world of Arai. With a complete new outer shell: stronger, stiffer and with a fresh, crisp styling. An important feature of this shell is the enlarged visor aperture, offering a 5 mm wider field of view at both sides of the aperture. A lot of attention has been paid to further improve and update the ventilation system. Especially for the Axces II a complete new rear duct was designed. It increases the flow of hot and damp air out of the helmet interior and offers a unique look. A new front duct provides fresh and cool air around the top of the head. The luxury fixed inner liner of the Axces II is made of a premium quality grey fabric. The cheek pads are removable. Several pad thicknesses are available to create a custom fit. The Axces II offers the comfort, fit and features Arai is known for.

x-tend ram helmet range
the x-tend ram range The most comfortable open face helmet
All the features that make the X-tend such an astonishing capable helmet, are also standard on the X-tend Ram. But as the name already suggests this helmet also features the famous Arai Diffuser ventilation system and a CLC outer shell. The renowned ‘’Diffuser’’ ventilation system and integrated Air Wing not only offer improved ventilation, but also reduce turbulence and draft at the helmet’s back side. The experience and knowhow of the RX-7 GP diffuser system was used for the X-tend Ram resulting in what must be the ultimate open face helmet on the market today. The X-tend and X-tend Ram offer three centimeter extended lower sides and cheek pads fitted with an EPS liner to improve protection against side impacts. The special shape allows them to follow the contours of the cheek bone perfectly and because of this improved fit, the tendency to lift at high speeds is significantly reduced.

x-tend helmet range
the x-tend range ultimate open face helmet
We have set our goals very high when we developed the new X-tend: more protection, more comfort, better fit but without affecting that feeling of freedom and the excellent view only an open face helmet can offer. The result was a complete new outer shell with sides that are extended by three centimeters for more protection (as most impacts occur on the side of the helmet). The ‘’bumper’’ reinforcement at the bottom of the outer shell improves the stiffness and strength of the outer shell, while the extended sides offer more protection. The look of the X-tend is further improved by new holders that are more integrated into the outer shell for better aerodynamics and styling, covered side vent exhaust holes that also reduce wind noise and a more rounded visor for a more integrated look.

SZ-RAM 4 helmet range
the SZ-RAM 4 range NEW HIGH PROFILE URBAN USE
The SZ-Ram 4 is in all respects a complete new helmet. The all-new outer shell is developed to be tougher with improved aerodynamic properties. On the exterior the Diffuser ventilation system catches the eye, complete with the famous “Air Wing spoiler (not adjustable). Side port vents with neat cowling remove moist and warm air from the lower parts of the interior. The brow vents now guide the cooling air across the temples to help you stay focused and concentrated. The visor is aerodynamically shaped and optically correct. It is pre-formed with a 3D shape for better vision, less distortion, UV ray protection and available in tinted versions. Detachable holders are more integrated into the outer shell for better aerodynamics and styling. For an even better personal fit, there is a removable 5 mm surface foam layer on the ear cups and temple pad. All these features make the SZ-Ram 4 what must be the ultimate high profile urban helmet.

SZ-URBAN helmet range
the SZ-URBAN range NEW THE SMART CITY HELMET
The SZ-Urban is the latest addition to the open face range. Of course the familiar Arai features are all present. The brow vents to let cool air enter the upper side of the helmet, reinforcement at the bottom of the outer shell to give it more strength and stiffness, the beautiful aerodynamically shaped 3D visor and removable ear cups to ease cleaning and to create a personal fit. But the familiar Arai top air ducts and indents in the outer shell have been deleted. Why? For practical reasons. The SZ-Urban will be a favourite among scooter riders for whom it is common practice to stow the helmet away in the luggage compartment under the seat. When the seat is closed vents and ducts on top of the helmet are vulnerable to damage. That is why the SZ-Urban has two closable rear vents positioned slightly lower and more on the side of the helmet. In this position the vents are much less prone to damage, keeping the appearance and functionality of the SZ-Urban in top shape for a long time. The SZ-Urban is perfect for urban (motor-) scooter use offering an excellent entry level, open face Arai helmet that is sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of daily city use.

It incorporates the Hyper Ridge, Emergency Release System and a fibreglass shell for your convenience. Off-road helmets can get wet, warm and sweaty so the VX-3 ventilation system is of great importance. Besides, the Dry Cool interior can be changed or washed when it inevitably gets dirty.

additional sizes
additional sizes available in plain colours
Arai helmets are offered from size XS to XXL fitting almost everybody. Still there is a demand for even smaller and bigger sizes. Therefore Arai offers size XXXS, XXS and XXXL in our additional size range. Thanks to these additional sizes, it is not necessary anymore to use a much too large outer shell with a lot of thick and uncomfortable padding, or an outer shell that looks too small with a slimmed down inner liner. Both options might affect performance of the helmet. Then there is also the esthetical aspect: a much too large helmet on a small person or at the other hand a helmet that looks way to small for a large rider. With Arai the choice for the perfect fitting helmet is easy. And even when our additional sizes need customizing, our specialists will be able to tailor made them to the right size for you.

the right size
the right size don’t guess size, make sure!
Did you know that according to a British research, no less than 60% of motorcycle riders are using a (much) too large helmet? Your Arai helmet will only perform optimally when you wear the right size. Therefore, Arai strongly urges you to try on the actual Arai model and size helmet that you are considering buying. Why? Because things like the evolution of design technology, the changes in ECE requirements, and Arai’s own changes and advancements over the years can result in a different feeling of the current version of the model and size you’ve always worn. Different Arai models have a different fit due to a longer, intermediate or rounder oval shape of the inner and outer shell. For this reason, one model might fit you better than another, so try them all!
head measuring
Start with measuring your head to get an idea of the size to look for: measure (in cm) the circumference across the forehead, above the ears and at the back of the head as illustrated. Fit the measured size. Focus on your head size (crown fit) measurement first, e.g. the area contacted by a baseball caps’ band. Do not be concerned with facial fit at this stage. When you can’t get the helmet past your cheeks or jaws, do not think it’s too small and reach for a bigger size. The helmet must fit your head! How? With Arai’s replaceable cheek pads. All Arai cheek pads can be replaced with a size that better suits your facial structure. But this fit should be addressed only when the crown size is correct. If you have the broad facial structure situation, remove the cheek pads and try on helmet sizes until you get that snug crown fit. Then Arai’s optional cheek pad thicknesses can fine-tune your personal fit. Besides the replaceable cheek pads, selected models (RX-7 GP, RX-7 RC, Quantum, Chaser-V, Tour-X 4 and SZ-Ram 4) feature the ‘’Peel-away Cheek Pad Layer’’ and ‘’Peel-away Temple Pad Layer’’. The pads of these models can be made thinner easily by removing a 5 mm thick peel-away layer for added room if needed. Finally, for the most comfort the interior must fit snugly all around the crown of your head. You should feel some pressure at all the contact points around the interior perimeter, too much pressure could become uncomfortable in the future.

how their individual jobs fit into the final result. They are taught to know and experience the jobs their co-workers do.
It can take up to five years for our experts to earn the right to create an Arai shell. Each shell can take up to 27 steps and each step must be our best, whether it is being made for a MotoGP rider, Formula 1 driver or a touring/commuter rider.
But our dedication to quality goes even further, because each and every Arai helmet must go through five separate quality-control departments: one after the shell is made, one after painting and graphic completion, one after assembly and two in-process inspections.
To build one Arai helmet will take about 18 man-hours. Everyone in the factory has a specific job, yet all of them know every step that goes into building an Arai helmet and

HANDMADE QUALITY
And what is even more amazing, this strict quality control is performed on every single Arai helmet. Dedicated craftsmen and quality inspectors inspect each Arai helmet carefully. Only Arai offers this level of handmade quality that has become a part of the Arai workers’ mentality, building your helmet by skilled hands. After more than 50 years there are still no shortcuts for building an Arai helmet. There are no ‘’minor parts’’ to an Arai and there are no minor jobs for building it. We build each helmet as if we’re creating it for one of our family. We build only one kind of helmet - our best. We give it one kind of effort - our best. And when you wear it, you will know that you wear our best.

Most of the Arai craftsmen work there for many years. Even though most of their names are not Arai, they are proud to be part of the Arai family and what it stands for. AN ARAI HELMET IS DIFFERENT FROM THE REST Arai is even able to trace back each and every helmet ever made to the craftsman who built it, because each helmet carries their individual signature of approval.

why arai
why arai? an arai helmet is different from the rest
why arai?
Why Arai? When your own family name is on the front of your helmet how good do you want it to be? For this reason “just good enough” is not good enough for Arai. The family pride is in making the best performing helmet possible. And only when it is made according to our philosophy, when our craftsmen have given their very best, when each single helmet has been inspected five times, a helmet is worth to be finished with the famous oval Arai logo. A helmet is only good enough to carry the family name when we are convinced about its performance for ourselves and our fellow riders.

WHY are Arai’s racer’s helmets the very same as the ones on the market? The Arai helmet you can buy with your local dealer, is the same helmet worn on the track by professional racers in MotoGP, Formula 1, Motocross, etc. Not just the same design, but the same technology, same materials, same fit, comfort and performance. It is no coincidence that more than half of all Formula 1 drivers prefer Arai helmets. In the words of our president Michio Arai: ‘’How can you say one person’s head is worth more than another’s?’’
Why does Arai still use visor holders? Simple, it is the best way to protect the visor system without weakening the outer shell. With a recess in the outer shell either the interior EPS liner must be thinner and harder, or the outer shell must be larger to accommodate a softer, thicker liner. Mainly though, such a deep recess can have sharp edges that may impede the desired smooth dispersal of impact energy along the shell’s naturally curved surface. Instead of making the shell thinner or making deep recesses into it, the Arai holder system ensures maximum shell strength.
Why does Arai have smooth shaped helmets?
Why does Arai have it’s own standard?
Why are all Arai helmets created for the most extreme circumstances?
Arai believes in smooth outer shells for a very good reason. Edgy or square designs may be very fashionable, but when your head hits the ground during an accident, you don’t want your helmet to get hooked or snagged due to the shape of the outer shell. The smooth outer shell of an Arai helmet is designed to glide without unnecessary resistance and thus improving it’s performance. That’s also why the chin bars and backsides of our helmets are rounded instead of, fashionably, pointed.
Of course an Arai helmet meets the mandatory standard of the market where it is sold. But these standards are our baseline, not our goal. They are only a requirement to sell the product on the market. While many helmet makers design their helmets to meet these standards, we believe that they create minimum criteria. That is why we have our own standard, the Arai in-house test standard. But always realize that it is the helmet that protects you, not the standard.
No one can predict the angle, severity, speed, or conditions of an impact on a helmet. That is why all our helmets are created with techniques derived from our experience in racing. Racing offers extreme conditions because of the very high speeds. Together with our knowhow gained in decades of analyzing day to day road traffic accidents, this results in an advanced helmet technology. It is this technology that is used to create a perfect Arai helmet for every type of rider.
why arai
why arai? an arai helmet is different from the rest
Why are Arai’s brow vents situated in the visor?
Why does Arai choose to be present in the high-end price segment?
Why doesn’t Arai create lighter helmets?
Arai uses brow vents in the visor and not in the outer shell of the helmet for a reason. We don’t think there should be forehead vent holes punched in the outer shell so close to the biggest hole in the outer shell, the visor aperture. By situating the brow vents in the visor, we eliminated the need to weaken the very important strength of the outer shell around the critical forehead area.
Arai quality, performance, comfort, fit and finish are not compromised to fit a pre-determined retail price. The price of an Arai helmet derives from its quality and we strive to make the best possible helmet. Because of this quality we can offer a 5-year limited warranty on every Arai helmet, making it at the same time one of the most attractive premium helmets available. And remember that you enjoy the comfort and fit of an Arai at every ride. Day after day.
We could create much lighter helmets if we wanted, but our extensive experience has clearly shown that helmet weight and performance go in opposite directions. What is much more important is the weight distribution and balance of the helmet. A well-balanced helmet will give the impression and experience of a much lighter helmet than the actual weight. Helmet weight and performance are always a compromise. At Arai we have made it an art to get the best of both worlds.
Why does Arai use double-sided tape or small screws to fasten its top vents?
Why doesn’t Arai make its helmets completely sound proof?
Why does Arai use the Double D-ring fastener?
Hearing the traffic around you is important. With these sounds you can determine the position, speed and direction of other vehicles in traffic and you are able to notice important sounds. Arai has deliberately designed an inner shell and liner with enough space around the ears, not only for added comfort, but also to ensure that traffic sound is not completely filtered out.
It may look very simple, even oldfashioned, but our ‘’Double D-ring’’ fastener is in fact a genius device. No moving parts, no corrosion problems and easy to unlock even with one hand. That is why in racing the Double D-ring fastener is the mandatory fastener in many disciplines including MotoGP. Because the Arai rings are flat and D-shaped, they fit smooth against the chin. The Arai fastener is provided with a red tab, just pulling the tab is enough to loosen the fastener.
If you look closely, you will notice that the vents and ducts on an Arai helmet are fixed in position with double-sided tape or small plastic screws. This is done on purpose: they break off more easily from the shell or mounting plate during an impact, instead of possibly catching or snagging a crashing helmet and creating even more injury.
THAT’S WHY: Arai!

arai INNOVATIONS
arai innovations pushing the bounderies of helmet technology
arai innovations Arai has been the creator of numerous innovations that improved performance on the road and racetrack. Our passion for helmets makes us improve our crash helmets constantly, which results in new groundbreaking technology that serves our loyal clients worldwide. Some of the fruits of our Research & Development endeavours can be seen on this page.

Patented Air Wing® technology
Free Flow System (FFS)
Arai’s exclusive, adjustable Air Wing® is designed to greatly reduce drag, turbulence and buffeting. It provides unprecedented aerodynamic performance options via five handadjustable ‘’attack angle’’ positions from full-tuck racing to upright riding. Adjustable only on RX-7 RC and RX 7 GP.
Selected Arai full-face models come with the Free Flow System (FFS). This unique Arai feature works with the pull down chin spoiler and integrated neck roll design to further reduce wind noise and turbulence while increasing the exhaust of hot air from the facial area.
Five year limited warranty
Emergency Release System
Wide view SAI visor
We grant each customer a five year warranty on a new helmet and we have been doing this for the past 20 years. To date we are one of the very few helmet manufacturers in the world that can substantiate quality statements by warranting our products for five years.
This now-copied groundbreaking Arai safety innovation was specially developed to allow easier access to an injured rider. By pulling the integrated pull-tabs situated at the underside of the pads, the cheek pads slide out, making helmet removal easier for trained medical personnel and rescuers.
The Arai SAI series visor offers an extra wide view on the road or track. The visor aperture has been widened by 10 mm to offer an enhanced peripheral vision. This wider eye port offers better performance in daily traffic, faster lap times on the track and an increased feeling of ‘’openness’’ inside the helmet.

PB-SNC
Multiple Density Inner Liner
Lever Release System
PB-SNC stands for Peripherally BeltedStructural Net Composite and is Arai’s most advanced shell construction. The Peripheral Belt (PB) technology was originally developed for our Formula 1 helmets and consists of a strengthening belt across and just above the visor opening, giving the shell more strength and stiffness. ‘SNC’ incorporates an additional structural net embedded between our exclusive Super Complex Laminate Construction (SCLC) layers. This ‘net’ bonds the layers more rigidly to improve shell rigidity and impact force characteristics. PB-SNC also allows a weight reduction at the top of the shell, reducing overall weight and lowering the centre of gravity.
The polystyrene inner shell protects the head against a crash impact by smoothly reducing the impact energy. The Arai inner shell comprises up to five different densities, because the human head needs different shock absorbance in different areas. Arai is very likely the only manufacturer in the world able to produce an inner liner with multiple densities as one single component.
An additional benefit of our visor holder system is that it allows the use of our Lever Release System (LRS). LRS makes visor changing easier, without the need for tools.
inhouse test standard
arai’s in-house test standard
There are many homologation and approval standards such as ECE 22-05, SNELL M2010 or the numerous FIA standards. Arai helmets meet all these standards, where required, but there is one more standard that is in many respects stricter, but yet is less known: Arai’s own in-house standard. MULTIPLE IMPACTS But why an additional test standard? The answer lies in the enormous experience and knowhow that Arai has gathered during decennia of helmet manufacturing. We have studied countless helmets that have been involved in actual road and traffic accidents, then we have the enormous input of our racing riders and drivers who have been using Arai helmets for many, many years. Combined, this offers a true treasure case of information and knowledge how helmets in general and Arai helmets in particular behave under real world impact conditions. One of the facts we have discovered is that multiple impacts on the same helmet site or impact point are quit common in accidents or crashes, yet these multiple impacts on the same impact point are not part of many international testing procedures.
42
EXCEEDING APPROVAL STANDARDS Arai’s own in-house test standard therefore exceeds parts of existing test standards. Impact sites for instance are not limited to predefined impact points, but any site above the test line is subject to be tested. Penetration is not tested for ECE 22-05 approval, but during the Arai in-house standard tests, resistance against penetration is fully tested. Not once, but three times. A spike weighing three kilograms is dropped from a height of three meters and must not penetrate the inner liner of our helmets. Penetration tests are even performed in the existing ventilation holes that are present in the outer shell. This testing procedure represents actual crash conditions where multiple impacts on the same impact point are common. For all tests a hemi/spherical anvil is used that is known to be the toughest one for impact tests. All Arai helmets are designed to meet the stringent Arai in-house test standard requirements, in addition to mandatory standards such as ECE 22-05. We build our helmets according to our standards, to withstand what ‘could’ happen rather than what is ‘likely’ to happen.
arai inspiration centre (AIC)
the arai inspiration centre (AIC)
Training The Arai Inspiration Centre (AIC) is an industry first and is based near the Arai European headquarters in The Netherlands. Since 2006 it fulfils an important role in ensuring that Arai product quality and specifications are maintained during the entire life span of a helmet. This is done by educating dealers, importers and Arai technicians, who service our customers in each of the markets that fall under the control of Arai Europe. Once graduated, the Certified Arai Technicians leave the AIC with a total understanding of our product and play a crucial role in maintaining product quality and longterm customer satisfaction.
43
Test centre Besides training, the AIC’s role is to act as a testing centre for procedures specified by various national standards, including ECE 22-05, SNELL M2010 and SA standards. Any test can be reproduced according to these varied official regulations under strictly controlled climatic conditions. Research & Development With the knowledge gained from market feedback, from racing and continuous testing at the AIC, the centre also contributes to Research & Development, accelerating the introduction of new helmet technology and improving our reaction time to changing market needs.
warranty & customer satisfaction
5-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Perhaps the ultimate demonstration of a company’s faith in its products is how strongly it is willing to warranty it. In 1993 Arai is the first helmet manufacturer to introduce a full 5-Year Limited Warranty. To date we are one of the very few helmet manufacturers in the world that can substantiate quality statements by warranting our products for five years. But even an Arai helmet won’t last forever. Like most major helmet manufacturers, Arai subscribes to the Snell Memorial Foundation benchmark of five years as the suggested usable lifespan of a motorcycle helmet. Why? Age takes its toll. Even with minimal use things like the acids and oils in sweat, hair care products, pollution, exposure to UV rays, etc affect a helmet. At about the five-year mark, helmet interiors begin to show wear and/or deterioration, which should serve as an alert to its overall condition. The helmet’s fit may begin to feel a little “loose”, not as snug as it once did. This unseen aging and deterioration of the EPS liner can affect the helmet’s ability to perform in an impact as it was originally designed. If a helmet suffers an impact and any doubt exists as to its further ability to protect, it should either be returned to the manufacturer for competent inspection or discarded and replaced by a new Arai.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Arai received, for the 13th consecutive year, the highest numerical scores among helmet brands in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 1999-2011 U.S. Motorcycle Helmet Satisfaction Studies. US based J.D. Power and Associates is a global marketing information firm that conducts independent and unbiased surveys of customer satisfaction, product quality and buyer behaviour. In the last research, more than 4800 riders provided information about their most recent helmet purchase experience and helmet use. Their verdict was the same as always - Arai is the best! Why? Tim Fox, research manager of the power sports practice at J.D. Power and Associates knows: “Arai’s focus on fit and comfort - the most important consideration when purchasing a motorcycle helmet - and its ability to cater to different types of riders have given the manufacturer a consistent edge in satisfying customers. Arai continues to improve in the areas critical to customer satisfaction, which has further differentiated it from other manufacturers.”
44
All Arai helmets are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, and are serviceable only for the properly fitted first user for 5 years from date of first use, but no more than 7 years from date of manufacture. It should be replaced within 5 years of first use. The date-of-manufacture (month/year) can be found impressed on the left chinstrap (the one without the D-rings) or laser etched on the steel D-ring fastener of the right chinstrap (see illustration). The date is offered as a code with the production month followed by the year. For example 01/10 stands for production date January 2010.

The Max Vision lens offers a full field of view with no peripheral interference, as the lens fits into the cavity of the visor. It incorporates a fully integrated antifog system with a closed air chamber, unique moist absorbing coating and adjustable pins for a perfect fit.
Helmet technology
helmet technology
What happens when your head is hit? Perhaps these illustrations may help to explain this. 1. No helmet is used: the head hits the wall and stops almost instantly. The brain however keeps on moving due to inertia and smashes against the inside of the skull resulting in considerable injury.
2. With helmet against a flat wall: the impact energy is absorbed by the soft inner shell. The velocity of the brain is reduced during a much longer period of time resulting in less injury for the brain.
3. With helmet hitting a protruding object: the hard outer shell distributes the impact force over the complete surface of the outer shell. The inner shell absorbs the remaining impact energy. The brain will suffer less harm.
HARD OUTER SHELL, SOFT INNER SHELL vs SOFT OUTER SHELL, HARD INNER SHELL
Decades of experience, research, testing and comparison have led Arai to conclude that a fiberglass based rigid and hard outer shell combined with a soft polystyrene inner shell, offers by far the best helmet
performance. The rigid outer shell performs the motorcycle helmet shell’s main job: spreading impact energy over the widest area through strength, structural integrity and impact-flexibility.
This type of helmet (Type A) spreads the force of the impact evenly across the whole of the outer shell area; the soft density liner then easily absorbs the retaining energy that is transferred through the outer shell, even when multiple impacts are applied. A cheaper and easier way to produce a helmet is to do it the other way around - a soft thermo injected plastic outer shell and a harder inner liner (Type B) - we don’t believe in such construction. In case of a severe impact, the plastic outer shell breaks itself and absorbs impact energy in doing so. The hard inner liner then absorbs the remaining energy that the outer shell could not absorb. If the impact energy is more than the outer shell can handle the harder inner liner may not be able to absorb all the remaining impact energy.
Type A helmet under impact: the impact force is spread across the total surface of the outer shell. The soft inner shell absorbs the impact by compressing the liner material.
46
Type B helmet under impact: the impact force is not transferred across the outer shell but absorbs the energy by breaking. The hard inner shell receives the concentrated impact and transfers the impact force to the skull and brain.

PB-SNC RC (Racing Carbon) Each outer shell consists of no less than eleven carefully applied layers. The technology of the RX-7 RC is based on that of the GP-6 RC car racing helmet, which was specially developed for Formula 1 use. It consists of an extremely stiff and light carbon fibre outer shell, reinforced with the “Peripherally Belted” construction.
•
PB-SNC® (Peripheral Belting-Structural Net Composite) The Peripheral Belt extends across the forehead area of the shell above the eye opening, enhancing the structural integrity while maintaining flexibility, low weight and shell size. Using special proprietary net strands that bond shell layers even more rigidly, SNC reduces shell weight, while providing a lower center of gravity, resulting in better balance and reduced rider fatigue.
•• •
ScLc (Super Complex Laminate Construction) 40% stronger than standard fiberglass in extension and bending resistance. Two layers of Superfibre with one middle layer of special, light and extremely strong fibre, exclusive to Arai.
•
cLc (Complex Laminate Construction) Contains a specially designed felt that is sandwiched between the two layers of Super Fiber Laminate. The felt acts as a reinforcement layer without adding significantly to the weight of the helmet. SFL (Super Fiber Laminate) The standard in shell construction, Super Fiber provides more comfort than other helmets in its class, yet is still strong and lightweight. Pull Down Airflow Chin Spoilers Helps minimize wind noise. Also aids with the extraction of hot air from the face area. Wider SAI Eyeport 10mm wider eyeport (5mm each side) greatly enhancing peripheral vision. Patented Air Wing® Designed to reduce drag, turbulence and buffeting. Adjustable on RX-7 RC and RX-7 GP. Hyper Ridge The reinforcement band circles the bottom of the shell adding strength and lowering the helmet’s center of gravity. Flares out to provide a larger opening to get the helmet easier on and off. The reinforcement band circles the bottom of the shell adding strength and lowering the helmet’s center of gravity. LRS Shield Removal (Lever Release System) Allows for shield changing without tools or removal of the sidepods. De-Mist Lock Visor tab pushes forward to open the shield and help clear any fog that may appear. Removable/Replaceable Cheek Pads Gives you a more custom fit by enabling you to replace standard pads with optional sizes. 5mm ’’Peel Away’’ Earcup/Cheek/Temple pad For a better fit if desired, without the need to purchase new pads/earcups. Emergency Release Cheek Pads Allows easier access to an injured rider by sliding out via integrated pull tabs built into the underside of the cheek pad. Advanced Dry-Cool Liner Uses micro water cells to improve moisture and heat transfer from the head to the airflow, so your head is cooler and dryer after a long ride. Removable/Washable Interior Allows for the liner to be removed for easy washing with mild soap and lukewarm water. The liner can also be changed to fit those in-between sizes.
