PROJECT PROGRAM

the fun factory fulton, ny, usa the number one employer in fulton is huhtamäki oyj, which manufactures food packaging. biomaterials research and testing is already of great interest to the company, and a space to do that which combines the secrecy of a commercial laboratory with the invitational quality of a tourist attraction could bring fulton the revenue and identity it needs.

given

MATERIAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND PROGRAMMATIC STRATEGIES WORK TOGETHER TO DEFINE THREE TYPES OF SPACES USING THREE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS OF PROCESSING LIGHT. TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS ENCLOSE PUBLIC SPACES, WHICH ARE REVEALED. REFLECTIVE AND DECORATIVE MATERIALS ENCLOSE PRIVATE SPACES, WHICH ARE MASKED. OPAQUE MATERIALS ENCLOSE SECRET SPACES, WHICH ARE HIDDEN.

program: biomaterials research

context: oswego riverfont in fulton tectonics: solid/reflective/ translucent material strategy the public/private/secret program strategy is reinforced by materials. public programs have mostly transparent enclosuures, private programs have reflective enclosures, and secret programs have opaque enclosures.
