About the Exhibition “Nocturne” Nocturne conveys a dreamy, pensive composition or works of art dealing with the coming of darkness, evocative of the night, subjects as they appear in a veil of light, twilight or the absence of direct light. Subjects associated with the night include nocturnal animals and birds, people working the night shift, landscapes and cityscapes at night, and nocturnal fantasy creatures such witches, vampires and ghosts. About Arc Gallery & Studios Founded in 2011, Arc Studios & Gallery features ten artist studios, a 1,000 square foot art gallery, two smaller galleries and an art education center, along with the Kearny Street Workshop office, the Studio Fine Artist Network office and Vega Coffee kiosk. About the Juror

Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery opened to engage more with the public, to empower other artists, and to elevate the conversation about art in this region. Great art speaks truths we can all understand, and shares beauty that enriches our lives. It’s transformative and healing. And I want to share that. The creative process in the studio is carried into the gallery in this unique venue. Ultimately, this gallery is a place of connection and opportunity. My mission is to share compelling fine art that touches and inspires you. www.jenniferperlmuttergallery.com Juror Statement This call was all about mood for me: shadow, mystery, color tone and subject. With so many submissions, the statement and specificity of theme was kept close at hand during the jury process. I searched for images with a mood that evoked night time shadows, dark secrets, and creatures. Loneliness and isolation can also be part of a night time mood. These emotions are conveyed in abstract color or literally with the expression on a face or surreal subject of a mixed media piece. During this heavy time globally with the Amazon Rain Forest burning, mass shootings occurring and human rights being violated in our own country, jurying this dark show could have been depressing. But expressing ourselves and our humanity is a positive thing. I hope you will discover commonality with the darkest of images and see that we are all a part of the light and the dark.
