About the Exhibition: Sanctuary “Sanctuary” has a wide range of definitions: a place offering shelter, a sacred or consecrated place, a container of holy things, a refuge for humans or wildlife, and a place offering immunity from law. Included in this exhibition are works that convey political activism, faith and religion, wildlife protections, and a place of refuge, peace and safety.

About Arc Founded in 2011, Arc Studios & Gallery features ten artist studios, a 1,000 square foot art gallery, a smaller project gallery and an art education center, along with the Kearny Street Workshop office, the Studio Fine Artist Network office and Vega Coffee kiosk. Arc is located at 1246 Folsom Street between 8th and 9th Streets in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. Arc supports the making of quality art in all media, provides a nurturing environment for artists to create their work, builds a community of artists to encourage exploration of art, provides resources for the professional development of visual artists, and promotes appreciation of the visual arts in the City of San Francisco. http://www.arc-sf.com

Juror’s Statement: Sanctuary can be defined in many different ways, depending on the circumstance, in which the context is used. Upon jurying this exhibition, I chose to align my consciousness with the idea of peacefulness and tranquility, a safe and magical place of being and feeling. I was inspired to select pieces that are Zen-like, dreamy, and often times playful. Overall, I feel the theme of "Sanctuary” is a place to reflect and contemplate quietness and beauty. To me, this temporal escape was an enjoyable journey and exploration into so many wonderful works of art that were not limited to one artistic medium. My hope is that “Sanctuary” will bring the viewer a sense of calm reflection and possible escape, from our fast paced Silicon Valley world, and maybe bring a smile to your face.
