2025 GALA BASKET
It’s time to play the back nine! For our final year, the Class of 2025 is assembling its golf-themed basket for auction at this year's gala. We would love donations of tees, balls, gloves, visors, or other golf-related items or gift cards to build our basket. Donations can be dropped off in the Main Office or sent in with students to the attention of class moderators Christina Mohs (mohsc@spaldinghs.org) or Wendy Olson (olsonw@spaldinghs.org). We are also accepting cash donations at this link. Please reach out with questions. We appreciate your continued support!
APPROACHES TO LEARNING
Greetings Parents!
Our Third Quarter began two weeks ago and our students have gotten off to a great start! As we begin this cold new year and a new semester, we hope that all students will continue to sharpen their executive functioning skills through practice and review. With many changes, our students are often asked to be flexible and resilient, for example, adjusting their studying schedules or rearranging their belongings.
Our executive-functioning “drop-in” sessions will continue on Thursdays, after school, in Room 114, from 2:45-3:15 pm.,for any student who needs help organizing school materials, planning for an exam, prioritizing their schedules, etc. In this week’s newsletter, we’ve included an article from ascendlearning.com on Flexibility. It includes strategies to help students handle changes that occur. Please share with your children.
Executive Functioning: Flexibility

MICROSOFT WINDOWS UPDATE
Please be aware that all users with Windows devices will be affected by the upcoming Microsoft Windows update 24H2.
To avoid disruption during mid-term exams and the final grading period, we delayed the deployment of update 24H2. We plan to release it this Friday, January 31, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM.
The update will download automatically in the background, depending on each device's internet speed, and will require a reboot. This reboot process will take approximately 20 minutes.
We strongly recommend that all students, faculty, and staff with Windows laptops complete the following anytime after 3:00 PM Friday.
Confirm your laptop is connected to the Internet. 1. Plug in your power supply. 2. Login to your laptop.
3. Restart your laptop - this activates the download. 4. You can force the laptop to update by going to Start →Settings → Windows Update. 5. Leave the screen open; do not put the laptop to sleep. Locking the laptop screen is recommended (Windows Logo + L).
6. Once the download is complete you will see a notice requiring a reboot. 7.
If you do not do this over the weekend, you may lose valuable time on Monday as the update will still need to be applied.
Macbooks and Chromebooks are not impacted by this Windows update.
GOOGLE CALENDAR - STUDENTS
Dear Parents,
We are pleased to inform you that starting on Monday, February 3rd, your child's class schedule will be synchronized with Google Calendar using a software called SchoolCal. This integration will automatically display their academic classes and team schedules at the correct locations and times on their school Google calendar. Additionally, as changes occur, the events will be updated accordingly. This feature will not only help students keep track of their schedules more effectively but also facilitate easier coordination for meetings with teachers and other students by checking availability in Google Calendar.
To ensure an optimal experience, we encourage all students to adjust their Google Calendar notification settings before the sync begins. The default setting adds a reminder 10 minutes before each event, which may not be preferable for everyone. Students can choose to either turn off notifications entirely or modify the reminder settings specifically for their school calendar. Details on how to adjust notifications as well as more information about the calendar syncing and troubleshooting have been emailed directly to students.
COURSE REREGISTRATION
INFORMATION
Reregistration for next school year will begin on February 3rd. Students should log into the Portal to register for classes. When students review the course selection page, they will see the placements recommended by teachers as well as optional courses. We encourage students to discuss any questions about placement with their teacher and/or the Department Chair.
Counselors will be attending Theology classes between February 12th and February 14th to review the process and answer questions. They will also be available inside the cafeteria from February 18th to February 20th. Students are welcome to also reach out to their individual counselors with any questions throughout the process.
In addition, please log into the parent portal (login is on the Spalding website) to accept the contract for the 2025-2026 school year. The process includes enrolling in Blackbaud Tuition Management for the new school year and paying the $100 re-registration fee and the $400 tuition deposit. If you have any problems, please contact Denise Mervine at 410-9699105x1226 or mervined@spaldinghs.org.
Online registration and contracts close at 11:59 pm on February 20th.

SPALDING PARTNERS WITH LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD
Spalding has partnered with Leveling the Playing Field to collect used sporting equipment throughout the school year. The collection bin is located just outside the Athletic Offices. The accepted items list will be posted around the school and is also attached here. There are only a few items they will not take such as clothing, bikes, skis/snowboards, and a few other various pieces of sporting equipment Each item will have a specific donation value and our goal for this year is $20,000! LTPF wants to ensure that every child living in the greater Baltimore area can enjoy the benefits of athletic involvement. Our donations will benefit Title 1/Charter Schools and youth/afterschool programs. At the end of each athletic season, we ask you to consider donating any unwanted or outgrown accepted equipment. For more information on LTPF please go to their website, www levelingtheplayingfield org Any other specific questions can be directed to the class parent reps. Thank you in advance for participating in another impactful Cavalier community project! Click here for the in-kind tax receipt.
