CASE STUDY BRIEF The sustainable modular house is flexible and future oriented house. It is a modular house that in this case study house example is designed for a couple on the off ramp location. The base structure consists of an exterior shell, depending the clients they can add more base structures and they can do anything they want with interior design. The base structure (shell of the house) is the structure, which makes the interior very flexible (anything can be removed or added on the interior). In the case of the couple there are two exterior structures connected to one another that are divided in a more public / private side and a living and resting side. Spaces wise this design had to be open, public and flexible. That is why the interiors are very open and the open sides of the structure contain a lot of glass to open up to the exterior and give it a sense of indoor / outdoor living. Luckily, the site made it very possible to open the house up to the outside, because it is a large site where the neighbors aren’t close.

Wall construction: - Plasterboard - CLT - Insulation - Air cavity - Cladding

The structure is made of one of the newest materials on the market: CLT. This is a very sustainable material that is prefabricated and can be build on site fast. It is CO2 neutral and has a high insulation value (for an optimal insulation it still needs an additional insulation material). A CLT structure needs an exterior finish to protect itself from the weather, but it can stay unfinished on the inside for a wooden look.
